The Huawei Mate 60 series has truly risen from its ashes. The company is showing significant growth in the smartphone market, particularly in China but also in many other countries, even surpassing major competitors like the iPhone 15 series. However, while the technologies used in this phone contribute positively to sales, they also lead to some legal issues.

For instance, we’ve previously discussed the troubles Huawei has faced with the US government. However, now it seems Huawei’s alleged legal dispute involves another Chinese technology company, or at least we thought so. Here are the details…

Huawei Ultrasonic Fingerprint Innovation: Allegations Disproven

Recent reports suggest potential issues between Huawei and Huiding. Huawei has been actively developing in-house technologies to reduce external dependencies. One such innovation is their ultrasonic fingerprint reader placed under the screen. However, independent development doesn’t preclude potential intellectual property conflicts. Huawei faces allegations that it may have infringed on Huiding’s copyrights in this technology.

However, like many claims circulating online, this particular one proved false. While Huawei is indeed producing its own ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensors, experts stress that accusations of patent infringement against Huiding are overblown. Additionally, the company has developed its own algorithm schemes for both optical and capacitive fingerprint readers.

Huawei first started using ultrasonic fingerprint technology in its Mate 20 Pro model in 2019. However, the R&D process goes much further back. Based on all of this, it is reasonable to assume that the company has sufficient experience in this field and does not need to infringe on any company’s patents.

Goodix, a prominent player in the technology industry, is set to roll out its ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor for mass production by the end of this year, according to Digital Chat Station. The top 5 Chinese smartphone brands are currently in discussions with Goodix regarding the sensor. This development comes with the promise of cost savings compared to Qualcomm‘s similar technology.

Affordable alternative to Qualcomm!

Ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensors offer a range of inherent advantages over their optical counterparts. Most notably, they can unlock devices even when the screen is off, eliminating the need for blindingly bright screens during nighttime unlocks. Additionally, these sensors are adept at functioning underwater or with wet hands, enhancing their usability in various conditions.

The fundamental working principle of Goodix’s technology involves utilizing sound waves to scan the pores in the fingerprint area, constructing a three-dimensional model of the user’s fingerprint. When unlocking the device, the sensor compares the real-time fingerprint model with the previously recorded one, resulting in a notably higher recognition rate. This technology offers improved accuracy, making it capable of recognizing “wet” or “dirty” fingers, which are often challenging for optical solutions.

Furthermore, the Digital Chat Station hinted at an exclusive period for a certain brand to utilize Goodix’s ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor solution.

After this exclusivity period, it is expected that other brands will follow suit in adopting this technology. While there is speculation that the exclusive brand may be from the EU+ region, specific details remain undisclosed.

For example, the fingerprint sensor in both devices caused major disappointment among consumers. Many complained that the on-screen fingerprint sensor does not work well and that it is slow and inaccurate. Now it is reported that Google wants to fix its mistakes and might introduce the upcoming Pixel 6a with a new and improved fingerprint sensor.

The California tech giant had tried to fix the fingerprint sensors in the previous Pixel 6 with software updates, but that hardly made any difference. There have also been rumors that Google is even going to bring Face Unlock to the Pixel 6 Pro to meet the security needs of the users.

As for the Pixel 6a, Google won’t use the same in-display sensor as the Pixel 6 series, said Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of devices and services, in an interview with Android Central. It’s yet to be seen whether the new sensor will be better or the same as the previous one.

The Pixel 6a is expected to be released on July 28. We have a good idea of the specifications of the smartphone. Let’s check it out.

Google Pixel 6a Specifications (Expected)

The Pixel 6a is very similar to the Pixel 6 in terms of design. The smartphone features a 6.1-inch display and has a 60Hz refresh rate. It’s protected with Gorilla Glass 3. The downgraded features help to cut the cost.

The handset is powered by the same Tensor chip paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. In terms of optics, the smartphone comes with a dual-camera setup on the back featuring a 12.2-megapixel Sony IMX363 wide-angle primary camera and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. While on the front, the device has an 8-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calls.

The smartphone is fueled by a 4,400mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. The Google Pixel 6a will land with only one storage variant and three color options, namely Black, White, and Mint Green. It will come with a price tag of $449, and the pre-orders start on July 21.

But now it seems that the technology could make a comeback.

As per the latest reports, Apple is testing a new Touch ID technology. Given that most of the premium smartphones launching these days come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, it seems that Apple could also jump the bandwagon.

The company is reportedly testing the in-display Touch ID. Previously, it was reported that Apple could bring in-display fingerprint sensors to the upcoming iPhones and the latest report indicates that the company is making progress towards that.

However, Apple isn’t expected to replace the Face ID. Reports coming from WSJ based on the information of two employees of Apple, who remain anonymous, both — Touch ID and Face ID will be present in the upcoming iPhone model.

While optical fingerprint sensor could be more reliable compared to the existing ultrasonic sensor used by the company, Apple isn’t expected to use the latest optical sensor unless they are as secure as the current version.

Apple is using Touch ID only on one smartphone these days — iPhone SE. However, the fingerprint sensor is also available on MacBook devices. Interestingly, on iPad Air 4, the company shifted the sensor from the screen to the sleep/wake button on the side.

One of the limitations with the in-display fingerprint sensor is that it works at a specific point on the display, although the technology has advanced and the fingerprint recognition area also keeps on increasing with a newer version of the technology.

Now, China-based Tianma Microelectronics has developed a multi-point in-display fingerprint recognition solution that can be used to unlock the full-screen smartphone through multiple points over the display.

The company says that it is an in-house technology where the image processing component of this new in-display sensing solution is embedded in a TFT display substrate, enabling the functionalities of touch, display, and fingerprint sensing simultaneously.

Further, Tianma claims to have used optical path design for this in-display technology which reduces the thickness of the module by about 50 percent compared to other types of optical fingerprint solutions.

EDITOR’S PICK: OPPO unveils World’s Fastest 125W Flash Wired Charging and 65W AirVOOC Wireless Charging

It’s noteworthy that the multi-point fingerprint recognition solution is for the LCD screens, which is a welcome move. So far, the technology of the under-display fingerprint sensor has been limited to OLED panels as their thinness allows light to pass through easier.

Recently, TCL’s China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd (CSOT) also announced its new in-display fingerprint technology for LCD screens called “Full-Screen Single-Point In-Display Fingerprint Technology.” It is claimed to cover around 92% area of the screen, which practically means that you can put your finger anywhere on the display to unlock.

So far, there’s no commercially available smartphone that comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor on an LCD display. However, with the technology from the likes of Tianma and CSOT planned to go into mass production this year, that could change soon.

UP NEXT: Goodix Technology aims mass production of LCD in-display optical fingerprint solution in 2020

The news comes via KoreaTimes which reports that there’s a growing concern among smartphone manufacturers and customers about the security of Qualcomm’s Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. The report further adds that industry officials had doubts about this technology even before it made it to the market as it ‘exhibited a greater probability of errors’. So the recent issue with Samsung’s devices further spoiled the sensor’s reputation in the market.

Editor’s Pick: Samsung patents a Galaxy Tablet that Folds into a Passport Sized screen

According to the industry official, it looks like Qualcomm’s ultrasonic technology has its limits and developers have to be extra careful in designing software for its sensors. On the other hand, the optical sensor based in-display sensors seem to be doing well, with a lot of manufacturers adopting this technology over ultrasonic sensors.

OnePlus 7T uses an optical in-screen fingerprint

The two technologies differ in the way they read a user’s fingerprint. Optical in-display sensors use optical (light-based) scanners to authenticate the user’s fingerprint while Qualcomm’s sensors use ultrasonic waves.

Given the issues associated with Qualcomm’s ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors, it is possible that Samsung ditches it in favor of the traditional optical scanners for its next-generation Galaxy flagships. To recall, Samsung phones like Galaxy S10 and Note 10 were both blacklisted by a number of international banks back when the fingerprint security issue was revealed. Given how smartphones are increasingly being used to make financial transactions, manufacturers like Samsung wouldn’t want to take any risks in terms of security.

Note that Samsung is yet to comment on this matter.

While in-display fingerprint sensor technology has been appreciated by the users, there are a few issues that users are facing. With development moving forward, China-based Xiaomi has announced a new fingerprint sensor technology that fixes two major issues related to the in-display fingerprint sensor, enhancing the user experience.

Xiaomi has announced that its new technology will enable users to unlock their devices in a single touch which is difficult with the current-generation technology. As per the company, with the current in-display fingerprint tech, many times users need to scan their fingerprint multiple times to unlock the device, which the company has now fixed.

Further, the company says that it has also increased the screen area which can read the user’s fingerprint to unlock the device. Currently, the fingerprint sensor works on a pre-defined area/spot of the screen but with Xiaomi’s solution, that is no longer the case.

However, the company has not said which smartphone will come equipped with this new in-display fingerprint sensor but has suggested that the future smartphone will have this technology. While the company has not named the phone, it’s likely that the upcoming flagship Xiaomi Mi 9 could feature this new in-display fingerprint sensor.

According to the rumors, the Xiaomi Mi 9 will come with a waterdrop notch display and is expected to house a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Dull HD+ resolution. The smartphone is said to come with a 48-megapixel primary camera sensor.

Under the hood, the phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 octa-core 7nm chipset but it’s confirmed that the phone won’t be featuring X50 LTE modem that offers 5G connectivity. Instead, the SD855 will come equipped with an X24 LTE modem.

While the phone’s 3,500mAh battery is said to support 32W fast charging technology, the Mi 9 won’t carry support for wireless charging. A recent report had claimed that it could be the first smartphone from the company to arrive with triple rear cameras.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 is speculated to carry a price tag of 2,999 Yuan (approximately $436) for the base model that includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage. Although the company has not yet announced the launch date, reports indicate that the Mi 9 will be launched in March but there’s a possibility that the Chinese company could showcase the phone at MWC 2019.

One of the major highlights of the smartphone is that it comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor, making it the first smartphone from OnePlus to have this feature. According to the company, it can unlock the phone in just 0.34 seconds.

Pete Lau, co-founder of OnePlus had said that the company was testing the use of in-display fingerprint sensor since the OnePlus 5T but didn’t use it until OP6T because “the technology wasn’t up to the standards of speed and reliability” of OnePlus.

Explaining the usage of the in-display fingerprint sensor, the company says that when a user places their finger on the sensor, it sends out light to illuminate the finger, allowing the sensor to “see” the user’s fingerprint. During the testing stage, the company discovered that green light gives the best results and that’s why they went for green color.

Apart from the high-tech sensor, OnePlus says that it also uses sophisticated algorithms to improve over time as they learn more about the way users unlock phones. Yale Liu, a software engineer at OnePlus says that every time a user unlocks the phone, the sensor also records areas of the finger that weren’t registered in the initial fingerprint setup stage.

The data is then added to the existing data, making it more complete. So, every time the in-display fingerprint sensor is used, it gathers more data about the user’s fingerprint. This means that over time, the phone will unlock even faster. He further adds that the algorithms are also able to figure out when the user’s fingerprint is different than usual – if their finger is wet or if they have a cut on it, etc.

The OnePlus 6T comes with a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED Full HD+ display and is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor with either 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage. It features a 16MP + 20MP rear camera and a 16MP front-facing camera and comes with an impressive set of features for making photography experience better. The phone runs on OxygenOS 9.0 based on Android Pie and is backed by a 3,700mAh battery.

In line with that, Vivo has officially announced that it will be showcasing a phone with a new fingerprint sensor technology at the event on 10th January.

Going by the teaser image released by the China-based smartphone manufacturer, it is clear that the company is planning to showcase a phone with under display fingerprint sensor technology.

With full-screen displays going mainstream, the demand for the fingerprint sensors embedded under display has intensified. For devices will full-screen display, the under display fingerprint sensor is believed to be the most convenient way to unlock devices, instead of a standalone sensor placed on the back side of the phone, or embedded on the home button.

Recently, Synaptics launched Clear ID FS9500 optical in-display fingerprint scanner for smartphones, marking a milestone in fingerprint sensor technology. The sensor can be used with wet, dry and cold fingerprints. It remains well-protected under the durable glass of the screen and is a water-resistant as well as scratch-resistant.

The Clear ID comes equipped with security features such as adaptive fingerprint template matching and verification as well as anti-spoofing technology. It is also integrated with ECC authentication and AES encryption. Synaptics has claimed that as many as 70 million units of these sensors will be available in the market in 2018.

Synaptics revealed that it is ready to mass produce optical in-display fingerprint sensors and announced that it is producing the same for a “top-five” smartphone vendor. While the company didn’t announce the name of the smartphone manufacturer it has tied-up with, some reports suggested that the company could be Vivo.

Vivo recently announced that it will be the first company to launch a smartphone with a fingerprint sensor embedded underneath the display in 2018. It revealed that the phone will come with Synaptic’s Clear ID but the name of the phone was not revealed.

Last week, Vivo X20 Plus UD received 3C certification. It is believed that UD in the phone’s name stands for Under Display, suggesting that the X20 Plus UD could be the first phone to come with under display fingerprint sensor. The phone is expected to pack similar specifications as the Vivo X20 Plus which comes with a 6.43-inch Infinity display with 18:9 aspect ratio, Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM and 3,905mAh battery.

Now, the latest information regarding the smartphone suggests that it could feature a front-facing fingerprint sensor.

A patent filed by the South Korean company in its home country reveals that the next-generation Galaxy S series smartphone — Galaxy S9, may have a fingerprint sensor on the front.

The patent documentation reveals that Samsung is planning to include a small recess at the bottom of the display panel in which the company is expected to embed a fingerprint scanner.

Samsung had filed the patent back in April 2016, and it is likely that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will see the implementation to address fingerprint sensor placement concerns. The Galaxy S8 had fingerprint sensor at the back, which didn’t impress many users.

Earlier, there were reports suggesting that the Galaxy S9 may feature a 3D sensor equipped front-facing camera similar to Apple’s Face ID. Recently, it was reported that Samsung is working on a dedicated neural engine co-processor for its upcoming Exynos chipset.

Rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will retain the display sizes of their predecessors. Both smartphones are expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core SoC with 6GB of RAM. In some market, the smartphones will be powered by Samsung’s next-gen Exynos chipset, likely to be built on a 10nm process.

Read More: Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Reportedly Arriving with 1,000 FPS Image Sensor

We are also expecting to see improvements in the camera department. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are touted to be the first Galaxy S flagships to come with a dual-camera setup.

If this turns out to be true, it will be interesting to see how users react to this new way of fingerprint sensor placement.

The Galaxy C8 was recently spotted on a promotional material which confirms some features of the model. The promotional material confirms that the C8 will come with dual cameras. The device is also shown to come with a fingerprint sensor which will be embedded in the home button. The dual cameras on the Galaxy C8 will likely be a combination of a 13MP main sensor teaming up with a 5MP secondary camera, aligned in a vertical direction.

In addition, previous leaks had tipped the Samsung Galaxy C8 as coming with a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. The device will be powered by a 2.3GHz octa-core processor with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage. It will likely feature a 2,850mAh battery and run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Samsung had hinted that it would not only include Bixby on its flagship but also on the mid-range phone and so, apart from the Galaxy J7+ which is rumored to come with Bixby, the Galaxy C8 may also include a basic version of Bixby. Samsung is yet to disclose when the Galaxy C8 will be launched or if it would be available outside China.

Another Chinese tech company Goodix has unveiled its new innovative technology for mobiles which it calls in-display fingerprint sensor on the floor of MWC 2017. The technology is the first of its kind in the world and it is integrated into the AMOLED display of mobile devices. The Goodix In-Display Fingerprint Sensor can transform a defined part of the display into a fingerprint sensor, thus removing the need for a fingerprint sensor button or a rear-mounted sensor.

The fingerprint technology also supports the latest curved displays which are presently the beautiful brides of flagships. As a result of the elimination of the need for a physical button under the display, the technology thus increases the screen-to-body ratio on smartphones using the technology. The Goodix In-Display fingerprint sensor is compact in size and has very low power consumption as well.

Goodix has got years of experience in the development of fingerprint recognition technologies and its solutions are used by mobile phone makers like Huawei, OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, ZTE, LG, Nokia, and ASUS. So we expect the In-Display fingerprint sensor to be one great innovative technology that may find its way into smartphones soon.

Unlike other Chinese smartphone companies, Huawei is constantly looking to differentiate its devices in the market. It is one of the first mainstream companies to adopt dual camera design on multiple smartphone series in 2016. And to a considerable extent, its smartphone like the Huawei P9 and the Honor 8 have managed to get our attention.

Although the company released three major phones this year — the Huawei P9, Honor 8 and the Honor V8 — among other mid-rangers, there’s still a couple of powerful phones left in the lineup. One of these phones we’ll meet in September, probably the Mate S2, with the Mate 9 slated for late 2016 release.

Weibo Post Saying That the P10 will feature Front Fingerprint ID

However, rumors about the Huawei P10 smartphone have already started to come in. The latest rumor from Weibo reveals that the Huawei P10 will feature a front facing fingerprint sensor. If true, this would make the first major Huawei phone to feature a front-facing fingerprint sensor, as the company has been using a rear-mounted fingerprint design on all its recent smartphones. If you remember, another rumor had revealed the front fingerprint sensor design a couple of months ago.

If the sensor is up front, it also means that the phone will probably have a physical home button on the front as well. It would be interesting to see what home button design would Huawei use on the device.

Since this is a Weibo leak, we can’t be sure of its authenticity. So, make sure you take it with a pinch of salt. Only after we see a few renders or real images of the Huawei P10, will we be more certain of this claim.

The phone is everything we expected it to be, and even better, thanks to a larger than expected battery on board. Before we move on to the specs of the device, which are quite impressive, let’s take a look at the pricing. Meizu has surprised us all by pricing the Meizu M3 Note at just 799 Yuan ($123) for the base variant (2GB RAM + 16GB ROM) and 999 Yuan ($154) for the higher-end model (3GB RAM + 32GB).

Now, let’s take a look at the features of the M3 Note.

First of all, Meizu had abandoned the traditional polycarbonate body on the Blue Charm series in favor of metal on the new M3 Note. This makes the phone look much more premium and good looking than its predecessors. Coming to the specs, the Meizu M3 Note features a 5.5-inch 1080p LTPS display up front, same as the previous versions. There will be two variants, one with 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and another with 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM. The company reveals that these are eMMC 5.1 storages which is a lot faster than previous versions.

Under the hood, the phone features the Helio P10 octa-core chipset, which is slightly under clocked as compared to the OPPO R9. So, it’s clocked at 1.8GHz instead fo 2GHz. There will be Mali-T760 GPU on board. At the back, the M3 Note comes with a 13MP camera sensor with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and 5 element lens. Up front, there is a 5MP f/2.0 shooter. Like other Meizu phones, this particular device will feature dual SIM cards, but SIM2 slot is hybrid which means you can use it for MicroSD cards as well. As for the software, the phone runs on Android 5.1 out of the box with Flyme UI on top. The company reportedly has worked with Mediatek to make the UI on the phone smoother.

Continuing its tradition of using mBack buttons, Meizu has upgraded the home button up front with mTouch 2.1 fingerprint sensor which can unlock the phone in just 0.48 seconds. During the launch, the company mocked OPPO of using the same oval button design as Meizu. But OPPO’s fingerprint sensor is faster (unlocks in 0.2 seconds). The M3 Note measures 8.2mm in thickness and inside this body, the company has managed to pack in a large 4100mAh battery. The company claims that this battery is good enough for 17 hours of video playback and 32 hours of talktime. Also, the phone weighs 163 grams and supports VoLTE.

The phone will be available in three colors, namely Silver, Gold and Gray. Both the versions will go on sale for $123 and $154 respectively on April 11 via the company’s own website as well as other notable retailers in China.

Meizu is yet to reveal international release plans for the Meizu M3 Note.

Apart from the new smartphone, the company also unveiled a new Bong 2P fitness tracker that retails for 79 Yuan ($13) independently and 60 Yuan ($10) as a bundled option with the M3 Note. The fitness tracker boasts of a 40-day battery life, which is impressive.

Then there’s the EP51 Bluetooth headphones that boast of 6 hours of battery life, omni directional microphone, nano waterproof material and super light weight body. The headphones will retail for 269 Yuan ($41) independently or at 199 Yuan ($31) with the M3 Note.

UMi’s upcoming smartphone, namely the UMi Touch has been in the news for the past few days, and it’s no surprise that the phone features a fingerprint sensor.

A few hours back, UMi demoed the fingerprint sensor on the UMi Touch and the sensor unlocked the phone quite fast. In fact, when directly compared to the iPhone 6S Plus which is said to feature a pretty good sensor, the UMi Touch managed to unlock the phone a bit faster. The company claims that the device unlocks in just 0.1 seconds, which if true is super fast.

What’s even more impressive is that the fingerprint sensor can unlock the phone even when the screen is turned off. Further, the company reveals that there is a silicone pad in between the fingerprint sensor and the screen below it to ensure that it’s protected from things like water vapor and sweat. You can set up to 4 different fingerprints at a time.

Coming to the other specs, the UMi Touch features a 5.5-inch FHD display with 2.5D glass and MT6753 octa-core processor. There will be 3GB of RAM on board and 16GB of internal storage which is further expandable via MicroSD. At the back, there will be a 13MP Sony IMX328 camera and a 4000mAh battery. The phone supports 4G LTE networks and dual SIM dual standby. As for software, the phone comes with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow build.

The company has just released the Redmi 3 Pro model, which is an updated version of the existing Redmi 3. Given that the phone comes with a bump up in specs as well as price, this won’t be a replacement, but rather it will sell alongside the existing Redmi 3.

So, what’s new in the Redmi 3 Pro? Well, first up, the company has integrated a fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone. It’s similar to the one we saw on the Redmi Note 3 model. The second major upgrade is the RAM and the storage. Xiaomi has increased the RAM from 2GB to 3GB and doubled the storage from 16GB to 32GB. Further, you still get MicroSD card slot on the device for storage expansion. So, you don’t have to worry about memory on your device (supports 128GB MicroSD cards).

Rest of the specs have remained unchanged. So, you get the same 5-inch 720p screen, with Snapdragon 616 octa-core chip, Adreno 405 GPU, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, 4G LTE support, dual-SIM dual standby and a large 4100mAh battery. There are four different colors for the Redmi 3 Pro, namely gold, grey, white and rose gold.

While it doesn’t replace the Redmi 3, what it does seem to threaten is the Redmi Note 3 2GB RAM version that retails for the same price in China. Apart from the display, which is a 5.5-inch 1080p panel, rest of the specs are quite similar to the Redmi 3 Pro. In fact, RAM and storage are higher on the Redmi3 Pro (3GB + 32GB vs 2GB + 16GB). Other specs of the Note 3 include Helio X10, 13MP camera, dual SIM, and a 4000mAh battery. Screen and RAM seem to be the deciding factor between the two, i.e. whether you want a larger and more beautiful display, or whether you want a larger RAM and storage space.

Anyways, the similarity in the specs and the pricing of the Redmi 3 Pro and Note 3 may not be of as much concern as I think. But what’s your take on the new phone?

The Redmi 3 with Snapdragon 616, the mid-range Redmi Note 3 with Snapdragon 650, and the powerful Xiaomi Mi 5 with Snapdragon 820 are all very good examples of the company’s competitive smartphone lineup. Now, it looks like Xiaomi is all set to upgrade its Redmi 3 budget smartphone with a fingerprint sensor.

The phone had previously hit TENAA revealing some of the features of the device like support for entire network in China, 8.5mm thin body and a large 4000mAh battery. At that time, we didn’t get the pictures of the phone via the TENAA website, instead it was revealed by one of the weibo users. But now, the model 2015817, which will most likely be called as the Redmi 3S or the REdmi 3 Pro has been listing on TENAA with full pictures and specifications.

First of all, the 2015817 model, comes with the same 5-inch 720p display as the Redmi 3. Even the chpset is expected to be the same, an octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz which is likely the Snapdragon 616. There will be 2GB of RAM on board with 16GB storage and a 13MP rear and 5MP front cameras. There will reportedly be three color options for the device, namely gold, silver and grey. Also, as you can see in the pictures, the phone will come equipped with a fingerprint sensor at the back.

It is said that the Redmi 3S will retail at a competitive price tag of 799 Yuan which comes to just $122. If true, then the Redmi 3S will naturally be the first choice for customers. The release is expected to be around the company’s sixth anniversary in April.

Looks like another great smartphone from Xiaomi is on the way! Apart from the fingerprint sensor, what else would you like to see upgraded on the Redmi 3 model?

We already know most of the specifications of the device before it officially starts shipping. Now, the company has released new information about the large fingerprint sensor that lies on the back of the phone.

According to the latest information, the Cubot S600 will feature the No.GSL6163MSB2 fingerprint chip from the Shanghai-based fingerprint company, Silead. This is one of the biggest smartphone fingerprint sensors available in the market with a size of 12 x 12mm. It is said that the chip can optimize the unlocking process based on the different types of fingerprints. This helps in the identifying the fingerprint efficiently.

The company further adds that the sensor can unlock the phone in just 0.3 seconds. If true, this would really be impressive. That’s comparable to the unlock speeds from flagship level smartphones like Apple iPhone 6 and OnePlus 2.

You will also get to add a few custom features to fingerprint. It is said that Cubot S600’s fingerprint could be used to encrypt apps and for other functions like selfie, online payments etc. However, at this moment, we are not quite sure which functions will be available right from the start. Some features could be added in the upcoming updates.

As for the specs, the Cubot S600 will come with 2.5D glass and 5-inch HD 720p resolution IPS display, MediaTek MT6735A 1.3GHz quad-core chip with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 2700mAh battery, and dual-SIM dual standby with 4G LTE support.

The S600 is already available for pre-order at $129.99 and will start shipping from 10th January.

According to the teaser picture revealed by ZOPO, it looks like the Speed 8 flagship will come with fingerprint ID at the back. Its a round sensor, similar to the one we have seen on other devices. But at the moment, apart from the fact that the feature will be found on the device, we have no further details.

2015 was really the year of fingerprint sensors. Almost all major flagships came with fingerprint ID on board. Many of these companies released their first fingeprint sensor equipped device only this year. So, its not surprising that ZOPO Speed 8, which is supposed to be the flagship smartphone from the company comes with this feature.

The high-end Helio X20 and 4GB of RAM should ensure stellar performance. We are really excited to see the device in action since its going to be one of the first smartphones to come with a 10-core chip. The company has confirmed the release date to be on February 24 at MWC 2016. It will be personally showed off by the MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo at ZOPO’s booth in the event.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

After sending out event invites, the company has started teasing the device on its official Weibo page. The latest teaser hints that the phone is going to be thin.

The new teaser revealed by the company earlier today shows a digital caliper with three question marks on its display. This clearly hints that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro is going to be thin. But the title of the post further reveals some possible features of the device. The title says that designing a phone is complex in the sense that adding a new feature means compromising on some other feature.

So, what is Xiaomi trying to say with this picture? Well, my best guess would be that the battery on the Note 2 Pro is going to be large. Since we see a caliper in the image, the phone could come with a thin body with a large battery. So, how large? Well, we can’t be sure of that right now, but anywhere around 3000mAh on a thin body is considered quite impressive.

As for the other specs, it going to be the same as the Redmi Note 2. So, expect MT6795 Helio X10 chip with 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, and 5.5-inch FHD display. Additionally, the Note 2 Pro variant will come with a fingerprint sensor at the back as seen on TENAA images as well as an all metal body in gold color as well.

Since Xiaomi has started releasing teasers for the device, expect more features to be revealed in the coming days before launch.

Despite other manufacturers freely incorporating fingerprint sensor on their mid-range and high-end devices this year, Xiaomi is yet to release such a device. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro is expected to be the company’s first smartphone with fingerprint sensor at the back. The phone will reportedly be launched before the end of this month. But we are most concerned about the second Xiaomi device to feature a fingerprint sensor, most likely the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship.

According to new rumors, the fingerprint sensor on the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be located up front. The person who revealed this information adds that Mi 5 will feature Qualcomm’s latest Ultrasound 3D Fingerprint scanning technology. So, front would be the ideal location to place the sensor instead of the back, where users won’t be able to see it.

On the other hand, he says that for low end and budget devices, the fingerprint sensor would still be located at the back. Well, the Redmi Note 2 Pro leak that we saw a few weeks back had the sensor on the back. Its basically the same as the Redmi Note 2 with the addition of an all metal body and fingerprint sensor.

As for the specs of the Mi 5, it is said that the phone will feature the newly announced Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB of RAM, 16MP camera, 5.2-inch 1080p display and 3000mAh+ battery. As for the pricing, you can expect it to retail around $314. The Mi 5 is expected to meet us sometime before December end this year.

The notable ones include the Huawei P8 and P8 Max along with the Honor 4C. Now, its almost time of the next generation model of the Honor 6 handset and it looks like the new Honor 7 has just hit TENAA.

A Huawei device with the model name PLK-AL10 hit the Chinese Network Certification Agency, TENAA late last month. From the images that’s listed on the website, it looks like the earlier leaked pictures were bang on target.

Earlier leaked image of the Honor 7

The images reveal a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device, just below the camera unit. And it looks exactly like the leaked images with an all metal body that we saw a few weeks back. So, its quite likely that this is the Honor 7 model which will meet us before the end of this month.

While TENAA fails to reveal much about the listed device, it confirms the fingerprint sensor as well as the 4G LTE network connectivity. The supported network bands by this PLK-AL10 model are as follows: TD-LTE, FDD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, CDMA2000, CDMA 1X and GSM.

Thanks to an earlier leak, we have an idea about the specifications of the Honor 7. It is said that the phone will feature the company’s Kirin 935 chipset along with two RAM options. Actually, there will be two models, one standard model and the other high-end edition. The standard model will feature 3GB RAM and 16GB storage while the high-end model will come with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. There will be a 13MP camera at the back and a 3280mAh battery. The screen size is expected to be the same as the Honor 6, i..e 5-inch with full HD 1080p resolution.

The company has confirmed an announcement on June 8, which is less than a week away. It could be related to Honor 7, so stay tuned. As for the pricing, expect the Honor 7 to retail at a starting price of 1999 Yuan which comes to around $322.

The Xiaomi Mi4 sold pretty well in China as well as international markets and it looks like its successor, the Xiaomi Mi5 could integrate a fingerprint sensor on its home button, much like the iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6.

The news comes directly from the State Intellectual Property Office website of China wherein Xiaomi technology Limited Liability company has registered a patent for a touch buttons and fingerprint implementation method, device and mobile device. So, it looks like the company is all set to its own fingerprint tech on its upcoming devices.

The patent application (No. 2015100507538) says that the primary purpose of the patented technology is to integrate fingerprint recognition into the touch button. So, instead of a rear sensor that we have seen on many Chinese phones, Xiaomi could be looking for a user friendly home button based fingerprint recognition sensor. Also, there seems to a layer of glass on top of the button, probably for improved asthetics and solid built (these two points were highlighted in the patented application as well).

Rest of the details from the application (Application Publication No. CN104537365A) are given below translated from Chinese to English.

“The device comprises a bottom fingerprint sensors and optical sensor provided in the terminal equipment of the cover glass; fingerprint identification circuit connected fingerprint sensor for fingerprint recognition sensor and the fingerprint information analysis and processing, obtain fingerprint analysis ; host processor, and an optical sensor and fingerprint identification circuit connections for the monitored optical sensor light information received to determine whether cover glass touch button operation; identity authentication based on fingerprint analysis results obtained fingerprint identification circuit.”

So what do you think? Will the Mi5 come with this fingerprint tech?

More information on the Meizu MX4 Pro has been coming out. Yesterday, a photo was leaked showing one of the MX4 Pro’s prototypes with the fingerprint sensor on the back. Obviously they passed on this as we now know that the fingerprint sensor is on the front. Meizu’s Senior Manager, Zhang Heng, said that putting the fingerprint sensor on the back would ruin the phone’s look, so they decided to put it on the front. He also revealed another piece of important information. One month after the MX4 Pro is launched (November 19), everyone can finally get their hands on Meizu’s latest phone. Hopefully, it won’t be too expensive. We’ll just have to wait and see.

In addition, since the MX4 also has support for 4G networks, the MX4 Pro should too.

Since the MX4 Pro is supposed to be more advanced than the original, there is no reason why the former will not support these.

It is rumored that the Meizu MX4 Pro has a 5.4-inch 2560 x 1536 display screen, the Exynos 5430 octa-core processor, and support for Hi-Fi sound effects. It will also have fingerprint reader that users can just press instead of swiping. It may cost around 2499 RMB (406.40 USD).

As the launch of OPPO’s latest flagship device nears (October 29), let us summarize what has been reported so far about the OPPO N3.

Specifications

In early September, it was reported that this device would use a VOOC charger which is 4 times as fast as a regular mobile cellphone charger. It was also reported that this phone will sport a 5.5-inch FHD screen and will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. The phone’s chassis is said to be made of metal. It will also have a new cooling system called the “Ice Nest”

Fingerprint scanner and rotating camera

Perhaps the two biggest pieces of information about the OPPO N3 are that it will have a fingerprint sensor and a rotating camera. A fingerprint sensor is nothing new among Chinese smartphones as the Huawei Mate 7 has one. Recent photos show that the scanner will be located at the back of the phone. The OPPO N3 will also sport a rotating camera with 16mp.

Pre-sale cost

Recently, there were signs outside OPPO stores saying that they were accepting pre-orders of the OPPO N3 for 4298 RMB (702.18 USD) which is far more expensive than the OPPO Find 7.

What do you guys think?

As sales go wild for the Meizu MX4, this leaked photo has caused the stir among netizens debating on whether or not this is the upcoming Meizu MX4 Pro which is set to come out this November. Its authenticity has not been verified but that has not stop the guesses.

According to Meizu, the Meizu MX4 Pro will have a fingerprint scanner from Huiding and that it will be put under the Home button which is probably why Meizu has abandoned the small round button.

It has also been reported that the Meizu MX4 Pro will have a 5.4-inch 2560 x 1536 Ultra HD screen, the Samsung Exynos 5430 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, a 20.7mp camera from Sony with OIS, Hi-Fi sound, NFC, a metal body, and more. It might cost 2499 RMB (407.58 USD) and come out at the end of November.
