The company recently kicked off its 2023 Xiaomi International Theme Competition. Let’s go through the details.

Xiaomi hosts an annual theme competition that invites individuals from around the world to submit their locally inspired themes to the brand. The competition is organized by Xiaomi’s International Internet Business Department (IIB) and the 2023 edition follows the slogan “Global Expressions, Local Inspirations”. This event aims to expand the selection of locally inspired themes for MIUI by adding new and diverse options to the collection.

Alongside the announcement, the brand also recognized some of its top theme designers for MIUI. The list includes Manolo, a freelancer from Italy who created a black-and-white theme that was downloaded over 20 million times.

Colombian artist Matiba painted vibrant smartphone wallpapers for Barranquilla’s Carnival, showcasing her cultural roots in collaboration with Xiaomi. Piyush, a Xiaomi fan, started designing themes in his free time and eventually turned his passion into a career at Xiaomi’s India office.

The Xiaomi 2023 International Theme Competition started on July 28th and will continue until November 1st, 2023. Designers can enter their themes through this link. Following this, expert reviews and voting will take place from November 1st to December 28th. The winning designs will then be announced and awarded.

The brand will shortlist the top designers and reward them with a special gift as a token of appreciation. The names of the winners will be displayed shortly after the event concludes. The first-place winner of the theme design competition will receive a prize of $13,000 from Xiaomi.

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Twist specifications revealed ahead of sale

Back in January 2023, Lenovo showcased their Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Twist, a convertible 4-in-1 laptop at CES 2023 conference. The laptop was among the most highlighted products of the event. Because it can be used in multiple ways, such as a normal laptop, a portable tablet, and as an e-ink reader/notebook.

It was stated that the commercial sale would start sometime in June. Now that we have entered the said month, Lenovo’s official website has the device’s specifications listed. This hints at the imminent sale of the product.

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Twist is a dual-screen laptop, offering a 13.3-inch primary OLED panel with 2.8K pixel resolution, up to 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, and touch input. As for the secondary display, it is a 12-inch screen using an electronic ink panel with a pixel resolution of 2560 x 160 and support for touch input. Users can not just open/close the hinge normally, but can also flip it horizontally, allowing them to seamlessly switch between the panels.

Further, it is powered by 13th Gen Intel Core-U series processors coupled with up to 16 GB LPDDR5x RAM and 1 TB of SSD. The device weighs around 1.35 kg with a thickness of 17.7 mm.

For connectivity, it has got two USB Type-C ports for charging as well as data transfer and a 3.5 mm headphone jack for audio out. It also brings support for stylus input. Moreover, the gadget packs in a 56Wh battery. The device was previously revealed to retail at $1,649, but there’s no word on the official sale date yet.

iQOO 11S listed on MIIT website ahead of imminent launch

iQOO is officially teasing the launch of iQOO Neo 7 Pro in India. On the other hand, there are reports suggesting that the Chinese division of the brand will soon debut the iQOO 11S. This smartphone seems to have been listed on the MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) website.

A soon-to-be-released iQOO phone, identified by the model number V2304A, has been recently spotted on the MIIT regulatory authority website in China. This handset is believed to be the highly anticipated iQOO 11S. The website does not tell much about the device. However, the presence of 5G network support has been confirmed.

We do not have any official words on the specifications of the device. However, known tipster Digital Chat Station had previously tipped the specifications of the upcoming iQOO 11S smartphone on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. The tipster claims that the phone will be focused on providing higher performance and faster charging tech. According to him, the handset will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset.

He further tells that the phone will flaunt a Samsung E6 OLED panel with a 2K 3200 x 1440 pixel resolution and up to a 144Hz high refresh rate. The handset will offer a 50-megapixel primary camera along with Vivo’s V2 imaging chip to help further in the camera processing. As mentioned earlier, the device will focus on faster charging counterpart and will support up to 200W fast wired charging.

The report also claims that the smartphone will launch as early as next month, i.e. July 2023 in China. After the Chinese launch, the phone would be later introduced to the overseas market. It has also been reported that the handset will go on sale in China starting July 08th.

If the leak regarding the product’s July launch comes out to be true, we can expect an official hint or teaser from the brand in the near future.

Samsung recently achieved the no.1 smartphone brand position in India, dethroning Xiaomi. Following this, the brand has now launched a new addition to its F series of smartphones. This mid-range device is officially called Galaxy F54 5G.

The Galaxy F54 5G is very similar to the Galaxy M54 5G, which has already been launched in several markets. As for the specifications, the device packs a 6.7-inch centered punch-hole Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with 2400 x 1080 pixel resolution, up to 120Hz high refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

The handset is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 1380 SoC offering support for 5G. Users can also extend the storage by using the dedicated microSD card slot given. For biometrics, it uses a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Coming down to the cameras, the device offers a triple rear camera setup comprising an OIS-assisted 108-megapixel primary wide sensor, an 8-megapixel secondary ultrawide unit, and a 2-megapixel macro shooter. On the front, the device houses a 32-megapixel selfie snapper inside the punch hole cutout.

As for the battery, it is backed by a built-in 6000mAh battery with the support of 25W fast wired charging. The device boots up on Android 13-based OneUI 5.1 right out of the box. Samsung promises 4 Android updates and 5 years of security updates.

Galaxy S23 Ultra to soon get 2x zoom option in video recording

Xiaomi recently announced that it will be releasing a software update in the near future, enabling 5G standalone (SA) network access functionality on devices that do not currently support it in India. This update will enable Xiaomi users to experience the full benefits of 5G technology, including faster speeds, reduced latency, and improved connectivity.

Xiaomi India claims that their selection of more than 20 5G smartphones supports the 4G-based 5G non-standalone (NSA) network. While the 5G SA network does not rely on 4G and offers a more pure and effective 5G experience, some of these devices still do not support it.

In order to allow 5G SA, the brand revealed that it has provided an over-the-air (OTA) update for the Mi 11X, Mi 11 Pro, and Mi 11 Lite NE 5G devices. Xiaomi 13 Ultra gets further camera optimizations via software update

Xiaomi recently introduced new color variants of its top-of-the-line Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone in China. It is the most powerful smartphone ever introduced by the brand, offering specifications like Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a 6.73-inch 120Hz QHD+ AMOLED display, and a quad rear camera setup with a 1-inch Sony sensor.

The brand is now rolling out a new software update for the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The latest update comes under the build number MIUI 14.0.11.0 TXACNXM. The update weighs around 134 MB in size. The changelog mentions that some camera-related features and optimizations have been added to the device. The “Auto-archive” feature, which Google has been working on for some time now, will automatically delete unnecessary data from apps that have not been used for a significant period of time, resulting in more storage space. When a user’s smartphone storage is full, the only way to free up some space is by uninstalling apps or deleting other data or files. However, with the introduction of the “auto-archive” feature, users can benefit greatly in this scenario.

As per 9to5Google, this feature allows for the bulk of an app’s code and resources to be deleted, thereby saving space, and then automatically downloading them again from the Play Store when needed. This feature can reportedly reduce an app’s size by almost 60% without fully removing it from the phone. Moreover, all personal data and settings are kept intact, and the app’s icon will still be visible in the launcher.

To use the application after it has been auto-archived, simply tap on the app’s icon, and the necessary files will be downloaded, allowing you to use the app without any loss of data. It is important to note, however, that not every app will be eligible for the auto-archive feature. Only apps whose developers use the App Bundle format, which ensures that only necessary resources are downloaded to the user’s phone when installing an app, will be able to participate in this program.
