Smartisan T3 Design Details Revealed: To have Notched Display, Rear Fingerprint Scanner

Smartisan is already working on its first phone for the year. Details of the phone called the Smartisan T3 have surfaced online courtesy of an industry insider.

According to @Mocha RQ, the Smartisan T3 will have a LCD display and not an OLED one. It will also keep the fingerprint scanner on the back – embedded under the logo like in the Smartisan Nut Pro 2.

Another detail he mentioned is that the phone will come with a notch but a small one and the rear cameras will be arranged horizontally. He added that Smartisan’s CEO Luo Yonghao expressed his displeasure at a large cut-out in the display and vertically arranged dual rear cameras.

The Smartisan T3 is expected to launch on May 15 and is rumored to come with a Snapdragon 845 processor. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as Smartisan has always released phones powered by Snapdragon 800 chipsets with 2017 being the exception.

Android P Adds Screen Rotate Button To Navigation Bar

The first developer preview of the Android P was released yesterday and the internet has been flooded with tens of posts about the new features it brings.

Android P Rotate Button

A new discovery is the addition of the screen rotate button to the navigation button. Android already has a rotate button in the quick settings menu which lets you set the screen’s orientation to portrait, landscape, or auto-rotate.

The new button is useful for those times when you need to view what’s currently on your screen in a mode other than the default you have set your phone too.

Android P Rotate Button

For example, let’s say you want to view a webpage in landscape mode while the phone is set to portrait. When you turn the phone to the landscape position, the button appears on the far left corner of the navigation bar. Tap it and your screen changes orientation. The same applies to when switching back to portrait mode.

If you switch apps, the orientation of the current app remains the default the phone is set to and not that of the app you just exited.

OPPO R15 Real Machine Spotted While in Use Inside A Shenzhen Subway

OPPO R15 is already confirmed by the numerous teasers and leaked promotional material as being in existence. It is only a matter of time before the device will be launched. The major stand out feature on the device as seen on the several leaked photos and videos is the display notch which the device packs similar to that of iPhone X. That design style has again been reaffirmed by these newly leaked photos of the device which was spotted in the hands of an unidentified user.OPPO R15

The OPPO R15 real machine was spotted while in use inside a Shenzhen subway train and it gives us a closer look at the front design. Except the pictures are fake, which is unlikely, the R15 looks more bezel-less than what we could scoop from the leaked renders. The device has a really high screen-to-body ratio which could be up to 98% by our own analysis. The selfie camera can be seen on the notch which houses not just the camera but also the front speaker. The notification bar seems to extend downwards and isn’t just occupying the sides of the display notch.OPPO R15

Apart from the notch design, the OPPO R15 is expected to feature an advanced facial recognition tech. The facial recognition could be similar to what Apple does, unlike other software-based recognition technologies, but we can’t be sure at the moment. The size of the device points at a 6.0-inch Full-View display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is also expected to come with artificial intelligence (AI) technology, gesture-enabled virtual home button, vertically stacked dual rear cameras, and Color OS 4.0based on Android 8.1 Oreo. There’s also speculation that the new R15 models will feature the upcoming Snapdragon 670 chipset, while a recent rumour tips the device to pack an Helio P60 chipset. There is no word yet on when the device would be launched but we expect OPPO to roll out invitation posters and send out press invites to the R15 launch event soon.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A 3GB + 32GB Version Goes Official at 699 Yuan (~$110)

Xiaomi has gone official with a new memory version of the Redmi 5A. The new version comes with 3GB of RAM as well as 32GB of internal storage and is priced at just 699 Yuan (~$110). The price is just 100 Yuan higher than the 599-Yuan 2GB RAM variant but apart from the improved memory, the device retains the design and other specs of the 2GB RAM variant. We had expected this variant to be announced in due cause considering the Redmi 4A also had the same 3GB RAM variant introduced some months after its launch. Buyers will have the chance to snag up this variant on March 12 at 10 AM via Jingdong (JD.com).Xiaomi Redmi 5A

Xiaomi Redmi 5A was first launched in October 2017 as a successor to highly successful Redmi 4A which made its debut in 2016 but turned out to be one of Xiaomi’s highest-selling product alongside the Redmi Note 4.  The device features an ultra-light all-metal body which is one aspect where it is different from the Redmi 4A. The design is also very much similar to the Redmi 4A in many aspects like the bottom speaker grills at the back and the rear camera which is tilted to the left side. The little difference in the design at the rear is that the speaker grills are located under the fused antenna band design in this case unlike on the Redmi 4A where it is on top the bottom line which looks like antenna band line. At the top, the line runs through the rear camera and flash on the Redmi 4A but in this case, the antenna line is under the rear camera and flash. xiaomi redmi 5a

Talking about the specs, Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch display with HD resolution (1280 x 720p). The device is powered by a Quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz which is paired with a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. At the back, the phone features a 13MP sensor with PDAF and LED flash. While the front camera is a 5MP sensor. It packs a 3,000mAh battery which is touted to deliver up to 8 days of standby time.Xiaomi-Redmi-5A-Profile-Page

The Snapdragon 855 Fusion Platform With X50 5G Modem is Qualcomm’s Next Flagship Chipset

It is no news that Qualcomm’s next flagship for 2019 will be called the Snapdragon 855. We also know that its next modem is called the Snapdragon X50. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Mobile Platforms have integrated modems but come next year, the SDM855 with an integrated SDX50 modem will go by a new name.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Fusion Platform

Thanks to a SoftBank Earnings Result document, it has been revealed that Qualcomm will refer to the chipset that contains the SDM855 application processor and the SDX50 5G modem as the Snapdragon 855 Fusion Platform.

We don’t know why Qualcomm is changing the name from Mobile Platform to Fusion Platform but one explanation is that Snapdragon processors are moving away from being just for mobile devices (phones and tablets) but also PCs.

Samsung To Launch India-Focused Smartphones Across Different Price Segments

India is one of the largest smartphones markets in the world and the competition in the market is getting fierce. So, in order to strengthen its position in the market, South Korean giant Samsung is planning to launch India-focused devices.

The company will be launching India-focused phones across different price ranges, that too in this year. This plan of the South Korean giant was revealed by Asim Warsi, Global Vice President of Samsung India.

He added that the company is focusing on multi-dimensional strategies to counter the growing competition, especially from the Chinese players. The devices from Samsung will be available through online channels as well as through offline stores.

In the year 2017, Samsung was the leader in the overall Indian smartphone market with 24.7 percent market share, according to the latest numbers from the International Data Corporation (IDC). However, the company is facing tough competition from China-based Xioami which took the top spot in the later quarters.

Currently, the company has the largest retail network in the country with over 150,000 touch points. Mr. Warsi adds that the company will continuously invest and expand reach not just on the channels’ part but also for the after-sales service.

Recently, Samsung launched its flagship smartphones in the Indian market — Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The devices come with several India-specific features such as “LTE Carrier Aggregation” that enables users to stream data 2.5 times faster.

Android P’s First Developer Preview Released; Does Not Support Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel C

Yesterday, Google rolled out the first developer preview of Android P (Android 9.0). The new version of Android OS does not support Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel C that were launched in 2015. The Android P has also dropped support for the obsolete Nexus Player.

The Nexus Player was introduced as a competitor for Apple TV in 2014. It was launched with Android 5.0 Lollipop and was treated with Android 8.0 Oreo update in September last year. However, it was confirmed in the very next month that device will not be receiving the Android 8.1 Oreo upgrade. Also, it won’t be getting the upcoming Android 9.0 OS.

The Nexus 5X and 6P that had arrived in the market in 2015 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow have received the latest Android 8.1 Oreo update. However, these phones won’t be upgraded to Android P. The well-received Pixel C tablet was provided with Android 8.1 Oreo in December 2017 as the last major OS update.

The support page of Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P state that these devices have “no guaranteed Android version updates after” September 2017. The reason why these devices will not be getting the Android P upgrade is that Google has a policy of providing major OS update to Android devices for a period of two years. The Nexus 5X and 6P users will continue to receive monthly security updates until November this year. The Android P will be arriving first to Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

The forthcoming Android P will bring along various new features and improvements. Devices running on Android P will prevent background apps from accessing camera or microphone without the consent of the user. Android 9.0 will also prevent secret call recordings and it will be also coming with powerful call-blocking feature to prevent spam calls. It will carry native support for iris scanning and HID Bluetooth. It will provide the power to mobile operators to modify the signal strength indicator. A new addition on Android P is the support for iPhone X-like notch. Google will be showcasing all the new features of the Android P at the Google I/O 2018 event in May. It is speculated that the final version of Android 9.0 will be released sometime in mid-August.

Apple May Ditch Notch on 2019 iPhone to Deliver Ultimate Full Screen Experience

Apple had introduced its 10th anniversary iPhone – the iPhone X with much hype last year. It features a full screen design that is enabled with a notch at the top of its display. The notch houses the complex system of True Depth Camera and Face ID sensors. The next-generation iPhones that will be unveiled later this year are likely to continue to sport the notch design. Soon after the launch of iPhone X, many Android smartphone OEMs started working on introducing similarly designed phones. The recently unveiled ASUS ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Z look quite similar to the iPhone X. Also, the upcoming phones like Huawei P20, P20 Pro, P20 Lite, OPPO R15, OPPO R15 Dream Mirror and OnePlus 6 are also expected to arrive with notch design.

Fresh information shared by an industry insider reveals that Apple may ditch the notch design on the iPhones that will be arriving next year. By removing the notch, the 2019 iPhone will be able to deliver ultimate full screen experience. The source claims that Apple may embed the front-facing camera and Face ID sensors under the display of the 2019 iPhone.

The other possibility could be that the next year’s iPhone will have full screen design with a small hole to support some functions. This indicates that the 2019 iPhone may deliver around a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent. As of this writing, there is no information available on the specifications of the 2019 iPhone. If the under-display fingerprint scanner feature is not made available on 2018 iPhones, the Cupertino company may make it available on 2019 iPhone.

Apple was mocked for including a notch on the iPhone X at its launch. However, many Chinese smartphone makers have adopted the design to use it as a selling point. Hence, the ultimate full experience that Apple is reportedly planning for its 2019 iPhone may also inspire Android smartphone makers to launch similar looking phones. As far as this year is concerned, the company is rumored to launch 5.8-inch and 6.46-inch OLED iPhones alongside a budget-friendly 6.04-inch LCD iPhone.

The price drop of about Rs. 1,500 on the Nokia 6 3GB RAM model comes after the Finnish company launched its successor — Nokia 6 2018 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.

However, at this time, it is not clear whether the price cut is permanent or temporary. The slashed pricing is applicable to the Matte Black as well as Silver color variants. Additionally, Amazon India is also offering exchange discount of up to Rs. 12,111.

To remind you of the specifications, the Nokia 6 features a 5.5-inch full-HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass protection. Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor.

Leaked Meizu 15 Plus Renders & Purported Real Machine Reveal An iPhone-Like Home Button

The Meizu 15 Plus has been in the news for quite some time now. Well, rumour mills to put it aptly. The rumours have been streaming in droves, all centred around a premium flagship design as well as powerful specs lineup. We have seen a couple of renders said to be those of the device in the past but nothing is certain. Yet again, the renders of the expected Meizu flagship has made an appearance in the rumour mill, this time around with a different design style.Meizu 15 Plus

Apart from the renders, some photos purported to be real photos of the device were also spotted on Chinese social media platform Weibo. One standout feature we noted on the leaked photos is the presence of a circular physical home button that is all too reminiscent of Apple’s iPhones. The device also packs a selfie camera that stands in the middle of the top bezel looking like the mythical One-eyed giant.Meizu 15 Plus

The leaked photos also herald the presence of a full-screen design which we are careful not to call bezel-less as there are large chunks of bezels at the top and bottom edges of the display with just a great deal of the side bezels shaved off. However, the device is said to come with the 18:9 aspect ratio design. However, our verdict is that this may not be the final design of the Meizu 15 Plus as there is nothing spectacular about the design which looks like an iPhone clone. If we are to go by the experience of the Meizu Pro 7, then the design of the 15 Plus is still to be seen. Be ready for a surprise as the launch draws closer. Do note that there are rumours of a Meizu 15 and 15 Lite launching alongside the 15 Plus.Meizu 15 Plus

Huawei P20 Trio Stun In Official Renders

The Huawei P20 launch is still a good 19 days away but by the time the launch finally comes, there will be little or nothing left that we won’t already know about the three phones.

For those who have been expecting official renders of the phones, your wish has been granted. Renowned leaker and finder of things @evleaks, has posted images of all three phones in various color variants for us to drool over before they officially launch.

The images clearly show the external differences between the Huawei P20 Lite, the Huawei P20, and the Huawei P20 Pro.

The least powerful of the trio is shown in two colors – Magic Night Black and Klein Blue. TENAA already revealed that it will pack a 5.84” display with a 2280 x 1080 resolution. Like the other three, its display has a notch and within it is a 24MP selfie camera.

It has the same double sided glass design as the P20 and P20 Pro but its fingerprint scanner is on the rear. Its 16MP+2MP dual rear camera combo also doesn’t have the Leica branding.

The Huawei P20 is also shown in Magic Night Black and a bluish-gray variant. It also has vertically arranged dual rear cameras like the P20 Lite but the configuration is currently unknown.

Apart from having its fingerprint scanner in front beneath the display, the Huawei P20 also has two holes that sit between the LEICA-branded dual cameras and the LED flash. From their size, they probably are secondary microphones.

Huawei P20 Pro

The Huawei P20 Pro will be powered by the Kirin 970 like the P20 and is shown in the same colors (black and bluish-gray). Unlike the other two, it has three rear cameras which are arranged vertically. Two of the cameras are housed together while the third sits separately.

OnePlus 6 AnTuTu Listing Reveals 276,510 Score; Notch Design Like iPhone X Hinted Through Benchmark Snapshots

Last week, the rumor mill had unearthed leaked photos of OnePlus 6 prototype. The front view of the phone had revealed that it would be arriving with a notch design like the Apple iPhone X. The OnePlus 6 smartphone has been now spotted on AnTuTu with a very impressive benchmarking score. The screenshot of the AnTuTu benchmarks suggest that its front design will be quite similar to Apple’s first OLED iPhone.

A OnePlus device labelled as OnePlus A6000 has appeared on the benchmarking platform. Since A5000 and A5010 are respective model numbers of OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, the A6000 that has appeared on AnTuTu is the forthcoming OnePlus 6 flagship. It has recorded an average benchmarking score of 276,510 which is slightly higher than the 273,741 AnTuTu score of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S. Like the Xiaomi flagship, the OnePlus 6 is also rumored to be powered by the highly potent Snapdragon 845 chipset.

The AnTuTu screenshots show that the handset will be sporting an elongated display. An interesting thing to note is the presence of an empty space right at the top of the display. This space is likely to house a notch that will separate the clock from SIIM card and battery icons present on the right.

It is speculated that the OnePlus 6 will resemble the upcoming OPPO R15 and OPPO R15 Dream Mirror edition smartphones. Hence, the OP6 may support an aspect ratio of 19:9 like the OPPO R15 duo.

The leaked images of the alleged OnePlus 6 had revealed that it may come with a glass rear that will be flanked with a vertically arranged dual camera setup. The dual lens system is not placed on the top-left corner like the iPhone X. Instead, it is positioned just above the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

It is known that its base model may include 64 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM. Also, it will come loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo and the latest OxygenOS. There is no information available on the other specs of the OnePlus 6.  The company is expected to announce the smartphone at the end of Q2, probably in June.
