HTC has begun the roll out of the Android Pie update to the HTC U11 and according to some users, it is already arriving on phones in Taiwan.

Early this month, HTC revealed the U11 will get Android Pie in late May and it has fulfilled its promise even though it isn’t yet available globally. The update is 1.36GB in size according to a user who shared a screenshot. The changelog says there are system enhancements and that Google+ has been removed from BlinkFeed since Google has shut down the social network. However, there is no mention of a security patch.

With the HTC U11 out of the way, the next in line is the U12+ which will receive the update in mid-June. The HTC U11+ will follow in late June.

If you own the U11, you may want to check your device over the next few weeks for the Android Pie update. Android Pie brings new features such as Adaptive Brightness, Adaptive Battery, a redesigned navigation system, app slices, and Digital Wellbeing.

Back in March, HTC revealed the Android update status for a number of its devices. The Taiwanese company said the update will begin in the second quarter of 2019 but wasn’t specific about the date. On Friday, May 10, the manufacturer shared on Twitter specific timeframes for the update.

The HTC U11 will be the first of its flagships to get the Android Pie update. The 2017 flagship will begin receiving the update in late May. The U12+ will follow in mid-June and the rollout will begin arriving on the HTC U11+ in late June.

HTC adds that regions and carriers may affect the dates these devices will receive the updates. There is no mention of the HTC Exodus 1 which launched last year with Android Oreo. But since it has the same internals and even design as the HTC U12+, we expect it to receive the update to Android Pie shortly after the U12+. You might want to add a few weeks because the Exodus 1 has some custom security features.

The last time we heard from HTC about an Android Pie update was back in November when it released the update for the U11 Life. Before then, the Taiwanese company had released a list of devices that will get the update but didn’t reveal when it will hit these devices. Months later, it has finally disclosed when it will roll it out to the other devices.

HTC took to Twitter a few hours ago to update its users about the status of the Android Pie update. In the tweet, HTC said it is currently working on ensuring the update is compatible with its phones.

We wanted to share the status on the Android 9 update. HTC is currently working on ensuring the update is compatible with our phones & we anticipate a release for U11, U11+ & U12+ customers starting Q2’19. Exact timing defers to operators’ availabilities in different countries.

The tweet confirmed the update will come to the HTC U11, the U11+ and the U12+ beginning in the second quarter. There is no exact timing as that will be determined by operators and will vary from country to country.

The second quarter begins next month, so hopefully, more details should surface then.

By the way, the tweet doesn’t mention the U12 Life which is also an Android One phone like the U11 Life. It also wasn’t among the original list of devices that would get the Pie update which HTC released last year because it hadn’t been launched yet.

With the launch of HTC U11+ in the Indian market, the pricing of the HTC U11 in India has been slashed by Rs. 5,000. Currently, the phone has been listed on online retailer Flipkart with this new pricing.

However, it is not yet known if this price drop for the HTC U11 is permanent or temporary offer for a limited time. With this new pricing, the phone is now available for Rs. 45,999. The reduced price is applicable on both color variants — Red and Blue.

The phone comes with a 5.5-inch Super LCD QHD display with screen resolution 2560 x 1440 pixels and pixel density of 534ppi. There’s a layer of Corning Gorilla 5 on top for protection from minor scratches.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor, coupled with Adreno 540 GPU, 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. It also has a microSD card slot, allowing users to further expand the storage capacity up to 2TB.

As for the photography, the phone comes with a 12-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture, optical image stabilizer, UltraSpeed Autofocus (dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus), and 4K video recording. There’s also a 16-megapixel camera sensor at the front with f/2.0 aperture lens and fixed-focus lens.

The phone comes with Edge Sense feature — a way to trigger actions by squeezing the frame of the HTC U11. In terms of connectivity, the phone features a hybrid dual-SIM card slot, 4G LTE, GPS, dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB Type-C port.

HTC had unveiled the HTC U11+ as its first flagship smartphone with 18:9 aspect ratio display in November 2017. During the launch, the company had confirmed that the U11+ would be made available in select markets in Europe and Asia. It is an improved version of the Snapdragon 835 driven HTC U11 that was launched earlier in the previous year.

HTC U11+ Specifications and Features

The HTC U11+ has arrived in India in three color choices like Amazing Silver, Ceramic Black and Translucent Black that has a semi-transparent appearance. The handset sports the Liquid Surface design that has a premium reflective appeal. The IP68 certified HTC U11+ sports a glass and metal combination chassis. Its dimensions are 158.5 x 74.9 x 8.5mm and its weight is 188 grams.

It is fitted with a Super LCD 6 display of 6 inches. The display supports HDR10 and DCI-P3 color gamut and offers QHD+ screen resolution of 1,440 x 2,880 pixels. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The Snapdragon 835 chipset powers the U11+. The 64 GB and 128 GB storage models of the phone respectively features 4 GB and 6 GB of RAM. The external storage slot of U11+ supports up to 2 TB of microSD card. The 3,930mAh battery present inside the phone is coupled with Quick Charge 3.0.

The connectivity features available on the handset include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Calling, NFC, Bluetooth 5, USB Type-C, Miracast, DNLA, GPS and GLONASS. Rumors have it that the successor of the HTC U11 will be launching as HTC U12. A recent report has claimed that the Taiwanese company has no plans to unveil the HTC U12 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 tech expo that will take place at the end of this month. During the recently held in the inaugural conference of the Taiwan 5G Industry Alliance, HTC had showed couple of unannounced HTC phones and VR devices. It is speculated that one of them could be the HTC U12 flagship smartphone.

According to well-known leakster Evan Blass, the mysterious flagship phone seen in the video below is none other than the upcoming HTC U12 flagship that is codenamed as HTC Imagine. Even the smartphone was kept on display for viewing, the company had covered its top and bottom portions. The side bezels of the smartphone appear non-existent.

Like the HTC U11+, the HTC U12 may feature a 6-inch display that supports 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset that brings along X20 LTE modem that is capable of reaching download speeds of 1.2 Gbps. Following the launch of the HTC U11 Eyes in China, the flagship HTC U11+ has gotten a price cut. We are surprised since the phone just started selling less than two months ago. But who says no to a price cut? Definitely not us.

The HTC U11+ originally launched for ¥4999 (~$775) but has now been slashed to ¥4599 (~$713) on JD.com. The price cut is applicable to all three color variants.

HTC’s U11+ which is said to be the cancelled Google Pixel 2 XL Muskie packs a lot of interesting features. It has a 6.0” 2880 x 1080 display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Both sides of the phone are covered with Gorilla Glass 5.

Like most of the flagships released in 2017, the HTC U11+ is powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor. It also has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

In the past months, we have seen a lot of smartphones being offered in red colour, including OnePlus 5T, Xiaomi Mi A1, and Oppo R11s. Now it seems that HTC is also joining the list of such smartphone manufacturers by offering a red colour option for the HTC U11+.

The HTC U11+ has been listed on Aliexpress in red colour option which is currently available on pre-order. According to the listing, the price of the red colour variant will be same as the standard version. The phone was originally launched a couple of months ago in three colour options — Translucent Black, Ceramic Black and Amazing Silver.

The phone features a trendy full-screen display and retains the squeezable frame feature which was first made available on the U11. It flaunts a 6-inch Super LCD-6 display that supports HDR10 and DCI-P3 colour gamut. It has 2880 x 1440 pixels screen resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, with 78 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 835 processor. It comes in two variants — 4GB RAM with 64GB onboard storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage. Both models come with a microSD card slot, allowing users to further expand the storage capacity of the device.

There is a 12-megapixel with a f/1.7 aperture on the rear panel that features 1.4µm pixels, UltraSpeed autofocus, Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) and dual-LED flash. HTC U11 has started receiving the stable update to Android Oreo from mid November. The updated started from Taiwan, the home country of the company, then it came to the U.S, but even after almost two months, the flagship has not been updated in Europe. The company is aware of the problem and it has published a post on Twitter in which it apologizes for the delay. According to the post, the company has started to release the update globally but due to some complexities, the stable update could not be released in Europe.

A similar thing happened a few days ago with the OnePlus 5, for which the company suspended the global roll out due to some bugs. HTC did not give any info about the issues encountered with the European update to Android Oreo on HTC U11. The issues may be related to European network carriers given that the problem is only in one region, but these are only speculations. HTC has asked U11 owners to have a bit of patience: the company will let us know more about the update as soon as it can.

The tweet comes from HTC UK and we think it should not take much time for the company to fix the issues. In the U.S. the update has been big, with a size of 1.28 GB, and it brought many changes and improvements. In this year, HTC had debuted its first U series flagship phone, the HTC U11 in May. The Taiwanese company is expected to announce its successor phone, the HTC U12 in May this year. A leaked render of the alleged HTC U12 has surfaced to reveal its design.

The leaked render shows that just like the U11 and U11+, the HTC U12 will be also arriving with 18:9 aspect ratio display. The screen appears to be surrounded by super-slim bezels. There is a single selfie camera on the top bezel of the phone.

Since the HTC U12 is expected to sport a full screen design, its fingerprint scanner will be placed on the back panel. The volume buttons and the Power key are located on the right edge of the phone. Its bottom edge seems to feature a USB-C charging port. The overall design of the U12 may not be very different from its predecessor.

The rumor mill has recently revealed that the HTC U12 would be equipped with a 4K display. Like the predecessor phone, the upcoming HTC flagship is rumored to feature a metal and glass combination chassis.

The Snapdragon 845 chipset is rumored to power the HTC U12. Apart from the fingerprint scanner, the rear panel of the phone is also speculated to house dual rear cameras. Vice President of Product Management at HTC, Mo Versi, took to Twitter on Saturday to announce that the Android Oreo update for the HTC U11 will be available today starting with the unlocked version.

In replies to questions related to the tweet, he also mentioned that the update will soon be available to Sprint users as well as the HTC 10, HTC U Ultra, and HTC U11 Life.

The HTC U11 is a 5.5” smartphone with a 1440 x 2560 resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 835 mobile platform and comes in 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM and 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variants.

HTC is one of the few manufacturers that have not jumped on the dual camera bandwagon ever since it became mainstream. So the U11 comes with a single 12MP f/1.7 sensor. Front facing camera is also a single 16MP sensor.

In 2014, HTC had launched the One M8 smartphone with Duo Camera feature. The rear panel of the phone featured a dual camera setup that included a main UltraPixel camera of 4-megapixel along with a secondary depth sensor. It was the world’s first smartphone ever to feature a dual camera that could shoot depth information. The following flagship phones from the Taiwanese company have featured single cameras. After the launch of HTC U11+ phone in Taipei, Chialin Chang who is President of the company has confirmed that it will re-enter the dual camera smartphone market in the next year.

“We’ll definitely be releasing a dual-camera phone next year, but we’ll need to figure out how to make this feature stand out,” said Chang. The Taiwanese company has recently focused more on improving the camera experience on its new flagships. Hence, the HTC U11 that was launched in May this year managed to record an impressive score of 90 on mobile camera benchmarking platform, DxOMark. The newly unveiled HTC U11+ features an improved version of the same of U11 Plus camera.

Flagship phones from Huawei and Essential feature monochrome sensor as secondary camera lens. Samsung and Apple are using wide telephoto along with the primary camera.  LG is making use of a wide-angle lens to assist the main sensor. There is no information on the dual camera configuration that the Taiwanese company will adopt on its 2018 flagship phone. If company decides to use the same dual camera system that was made available on HTC One M8, the 2018 flagship phone from the company may feature secondary telephoto lens.

Chang has also confirmed that HTC will be releasing around five to six smartphones in 2018 like it did this year. Instead of just releasing high-end phones, the company also plans to take on the 2,000 Yuan smartphone market in China in 2018. He added the acquisition of HTC’s Pixel team by Google is in process and the deal may close in early 2018.

Fresh information suggests that HTC was supposed to make the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones. However, since the latter was cancelled by Google, the Taiwanese company redesigned its iteration of Pixel 2 XL to launch it as U11+. When Chang was asked whether the HTC U11+ is the cancelled Pixel 2 XL he replied by saying that he does not know how to answer the question. He said that because of the relationship between HTC and Google, he can’t comment on Google’s products.

He commented on the HTC U11+ by saying that, “we actually started planning it as such around end of last year, like the way we sourced its key components and whether they made sense, it was planned that way at the time. We are also very happy that our U11+ used these parts.”

After the HTC One Max from 2013, the U11+ is the first phone from the company to feature rear-facing fingerprint reader. This is another indication that the phone U11+ may have been original planned to debut as Pixel 2 XL. According to Chang, the positioning of the fingerprint reader on the rear panel seems more sensible on the U11+ as it features an elongated 18:9 display. He added that if HTC had really built the two similarly specced phones, it could have used the same rear positioning of the fingerprint scanner on both devices.

Rumors of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones that had emerged at the beginning of this year had claimed that HTC would be manufacturing both phones. The rumor mill had also revealed their respective codenames as Walleye and Muskie. However, Google had reportedly cancelled the HTC Muskie phone to launch LG’s Taimen phone as Google Pixel 2 XL. Fresh information suggests that the newly unveiled HTC U11+ flagship phone could be the cancelled Pixel 2 XL Muskie phone.

According to The Verge, its sources have revealed that once Google rejected the Muskie phone, HTC decided to launch it as U11+ after some modifications. The recent high-end U-series smartphones feature reflective rear panels and the same has been included in the U11+ phone. It also features the stellar rear camera that is available on the HTC U11.

HTC’s Muskie was recent spotted in Android AOSP with a huge 3,830mAh capacity battery and 560DPI for its display. The specifications of the HTC U11+ such as the 3,930mAh battery and the 6-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio is somewhat similar to the leaked information of Muskie phone.

After the HTC One Max smartphone was launched in 2013, the U11+ is the first phone from the company to house a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. The publication claims that the core design and engineering of U11+ was actually meant for the Pixel 2 XL phone. Hence, it appears that the smartphone was originally intended to launch as Pixel 2 XL.

The new flagship from HTC features Android 8.0 Oreo that is overlaid with the latest Sense UI. The Pixel Visual Core chip that is specially designed by Google for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is not available on the U11+.

The LG-made Pixel 2 XL has a 6-inch QHD+ screen that produces 18:9 aspect ratio. However, instead of the LCD panel found on the U11+, the LG phone uses a OLED panel. However, recent reports have revealed the Pixel 2 XL’s OLED panel is of mediocre quality as it suffers from various issues like blue tint, black smear, and screen burn-in. HTC U11+ may not have very slim bezels, but it certainly appears like a sold flagship that will appreciation from the critics and users.

HTC has not only unveiled the U11+ flagship phone today, but also it has introduced the U11 Life mid-range phone. The smartphone comes in Android One and Sense versions.

Design and Display

The HTC U11 Life’s Android One and Sense versions are almost identical in appearance. It bears resemblance with the U11 flagship phone. The IP67 rated phone sports a metal unibody design and comes in colors like Sapphire Blue and Brilliant Black. It measures 149.09 x 72.9 x 8.1mm and it weighs 142 grams.

Like the U-series phones from the company, the U11 Life also features the Liquid Surface design on its rear. The back panel also features a fingerprint reader. The squeezable frame on the HTC U11 Life can be used for quickly launching favorite apps and contacts. It has a 5.2-inch Super LCD screen that produces full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Performance, Connectivity and Cameras

The Snapdragon 630 chipset is present under the hood of the HTC U11 Life. It includes a 2,600mAh battery. In May, HTC had launched the HTC U11 flagship phone and today it has unveiled the HTC U11+ phone with improved specs. It sports the trendy full screen design and retains the squeezable frame feature that was first made available on the U11.

Design and Display

When it comes to appearance, the HTC U11+ looks like a taller version of U11. It measures 158.5 x 74.9 x 8.5mm and weighs 188 grams. The IP68 certified chassis of the phone has a glossy and reflective Liquid Surface design on the rear panel. It comes in color choices like Ceramic Black, Amazing Silver and Translucent Black which sports a semi-transparent rear. The fingerprint scanner resides reside on the back panel of the phone.

The HTC U11+ has a 6-inch Super LCD-6 display that carries support for HDR10 and DCI-P3 color gamut. The 18:9 screen produces a resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels. HTC U11 Plus (or U11+) and U11 Life are speculated to debut tomorrow. A Swiss publication called Blick Digital has outed a hands-on video of both the smartphones. Since the hands-on video could not be embedded, we have included some snapshots from the video.

The HTC U11+ is rumored to arrive with a 6-inch display that will carry support for 2,880 x 1,440 pixels. The screen will be delivering an aspect ratio of 18:9. The side bezels of the phone appear thin, but it does not seem to offer a high screen-to-body ratio like the Samsung Galaxy S8 or LG V30.

The back panel of the HTC U11+ has a fingerprint scanner that is placed below the rear camera. The rear panel is a bit transparent as the innards of the phone are visible. This could be the translucent color variant of the HTC U11+ that the Taiwanese company had teased yesterday. The U11+ is expected to arrive in other color options like black and silver.

Since the U11+ is a larger version of the HTC U11 flagship phone that was launched in May this year, it will be arriving with a squeezable frame for using the Edge Sense for carrying out different tasks. But, as per the latest report, HTC is expected to roll out Android Oreo update for the HTC U11 smartphone as soon as next month, i.e. November 2017. Currently, the phone is running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with Sense 9 UI on top.

A Twitter tipster LlabTooFeR has revealed that the update is currently in the final stages of its development, and will start rolling out in the November-early December time frame.

It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with UltraPixel technology, 5-axis OIS, EIS and f/1.7 aperture. Huawei Mate 10 AnTuTu Benchmarks

The above image seems to belong to the regular Mate 10 as the model number of ALP-AL00 has appeared with 4 GB of RAM on the benchmarking site numerous times in the recent past. On AnTuTu, it has managed to score even higher with 176,174 points. Also, the listing shown in the above image seems to be authentic as the official AnTuTu site has the same listing sans the scores of Mate 10.

The Mate 10 has a 5.9-inch LCD screen that supports QHD resolution. It also features the same dual camera system and 4,000mAh battery that is available on the Mate 10 Pro.

Coming to the AnTuTu benchmarks, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro have managed to list among the top 7 best performing smartphones. The Apple A11 Bionic chipset powered iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 are respectively leading AnTuTu benchmarks with respective scores of 212,728 and 205,386. The Snapdragon 835 powered OnePlus 5 and ZTE Nubia Z17 that have respectively scored 181,410 and 177,770 are ranking ahead of Mate 10.

The Mate 10 Pro is not present in the above list, but its score of 173,757 should land it behind HTC U11 that has a score of 175,970. The Mate 10 and 10 Pro are also ahead of SD 835 powered Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ on AnTuTu

The above ranking shows that the Kirin 970 powered Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are scoring similar benchmark scores as Snapdragon 835 on AnTuTu. This indicates that Huawei has managed to create a beasty chipset that can rival with Snapdragon 835.

HTC is expected to unveil the U11 Plus on November 2 judging from the invite it sent out a few days ago. The U11 has been seen on Geekbench and GFXBench and just a few hours ago, CAD based renders courtesy of Onleaks and Couponraja were posted online.

The HTC U11 Plus is supposed to have one key feature we have seen quite a number of manufacturers adopt this year and that is a full-screen display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The other specs will largely be the same as that of the U11. At least we are sure of the Snapdragon 835 processor.

The renders show that HTC will be going for the same highly reflective Liquid Surface glass back design. It has a single rear camera sensor confirming that HTC is still not joining the dual camera bandwagon this year.

There is a LED flash beside the camera and a circular fingerprint scanner below the sensor. The phone has two white antenna lines at the bottom where the USB-C port is, two on the left side, and one each at the top and on the right.

The HTC U11 Plus lacks a 3.5mm audio jack like the U11 but appears to have stereo speakers (earpiece and bottom speaker beside the USB port).

According to GFXBench, the U11 Plus will have a 6” QHD+ display (with an 18:9 aspect ratio). This should mean smaller bezels.  The bezels are still there as they are not super small but compared to the U11, there has been a reduction.

On the right of the top bezel sits the 8MP sensor listed by GFXBench. There are two small circles beside it, along with the earpiece/speaker in the middle, and another sensor on the left.

The front glass appears to be 3D but we will confirm when it launches. The power button and volume rocker are on the right and the left is bare. The device is said to have a rough dimension of 158.2 x 74.6 x 9.1 mm.

The rest of the specs revealed by GFXBench include 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and NFC. Other features not mentioned that should come with the phone are BoomSound and Edge Sense.

It has a rear camera of 12-megapixel and a front-facing snapper of 8-megapixel. It is loaded with Android 8.0.0.

Geekbench listing of HTC 2Q4D1 also shows that it is driven by Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 4 GB of RAM. The handset is preloaded with Android 8.0.0 Oreo. On Geekbench, the HTC 2Q4D1 has scored 1,920 points on single-core test and 5,765 on multi-core test.

The HTC U11 flagship phone that was launched in May this year also features Snapdragon 835. The Taiwanese company is selling the HTC U11 with 6 GB of RAM in specific regions like the U.S. In other markets, the U11 is available with 4 GB of RAM. Hence, the HTC U11 Plus is pegged to arrive in 4 GB and 6 GB RAM models.

Recent reports have revealed that the 4 GB RAM model of the rumored HTC U11 Plus will have 64 GB of storage and its 6 GB RAM variant will have 128 GB of storage. Also, the 6-inch display of the phone is expected to support an aspect ratio of 2:1 since it supports QHD+ resolution. As it can be seen in the concept renders, the U11 Plus has a large-sized screen that is flanked with very slim bezels on its four sides. The rear side of the smartphone features a camera and fingerprint reader. The backside of the phone features a glass panel that appears to be curved at all the four edges.

Previous reports have revealed that the HTC U11 Plus will be fitted with a 5.99-inch display. It is expected to support an aspect ratio of 18:9 and QHD+ resolution of 2,880 x 1,440 pixels. The Snapdragon 835 chipset is expected to power the smartphone.

The company has also said that it is working on its next flagship phone called HTC U11 Plus that will be arriving with a full screen design. A French publication has revealed some juicy details on the upcoming HTC flagship.

Recent rumors have revealed that the HTC U11 Plus is codenamed as Ocean Master. Like the premium flagship phones, the U11 Plus is speculated to come with a full screen design flanked with minimal bezels.

According to the French publication, the U11 Plus will be housing a 5.99-inch panel manufactured by Japan Display. It will be supporting an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Snapdragon 835 chipset will be present under the hood of the smartphone.

It will be coming in two variants. The first model will feature 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of UFS 2.1 storage and the second one will be coming with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage.

A 12-megapixel camera is present on the rear side of the smartphone. It will be featuring the same rear camera that is present on the HTC U11. The frontside will be fitted with an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. The exact size of its battery is not available, but what is known is that it will be carrying support for Quick Charge 3.0 (9V/2A).

Like the HTC U11, the upcoming flagship will be coming with squeezable frame for supporting the Edge Sense feature. The handset is also expected to arrive with IP68 certified water and dust resistant chassis. We speculate that like the HTC U11 and HTC U Ultra smartphones, the U11 Plus will be also arriving with a premium design.

The French publication has also revealed that the HTC U11 Plus would be launching in China on November 11 as the Taiwanese company is reportedly working on regaining its market share in the country. As of this writing, there is no information available on its launch date for other markets. The publication also hints that the HTC U11 Plus may arrive with an attractive pricing.

HTC Vive VR is one of the most popular VR devices and also the company’s most successful assets in the past ten years. A source familiar with the situation of the company has revealed that the Taiwanese firm has appointed an advisor to overcome the current crisis and is working on getting a strategic investor. It appears that full sale of HTC is unlikely to happen as there is no single acquirer looking forward to taking over it.

HTC has come to a point that it has lost its brand popularity. As mentioned before, its poor marketing strategy has caused the average consumer to consider HTC as one of the reliable brands against major rivals as Apple and Samsung. Unless the Taiwanese firm strikes a deal with carriers stores or makes its device more visible to the customers, HTC’s smartphone market is unlikely to improve.

HTC is still making profits in its smartphone business through another way, meaning that the Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones that are manufactured by HTC allows it to earn direct profit from Google. However, this may not be the only way the company may want to make profits in the smartphone business. Moreover, HTC had built both the Google Pixel phones last year, but this year it is rumored to be manufacturing one of the two Pixel phones. This has also probably reduced the profits from the smartphones business.

As Foxconn is making iPhones for Apple and the latter is concentrating on optimizing the iOS experience. HTC could also consider selling its smartphone business to Google. This can be beneficial for Google too as it will have a sole manufacturing company to assist it in building the Pixel phones. And then, Google could focus on enriching the Android experience.

The U11 is the latest flagship from Taiwanese manufacturer HTC. Report says the phone is selling faster than its predecessors, the HTC M9 and HTC 10, and AnTuTu named it the best performing device for May 2017. Although HTC hasn’t said anything about a successor, we have come across a HTC U12 concept design that looks quite interesting.

The HTC U12 concept doesn’t take design cues from the U11. It is a completely different device. From the display, to the cameras, and the overall design, it shares no resemblance to the U11.

The HTC U12 features an infinity-like 5.7-inch 4K display with curved corners and thin bezels at the top and bottom. The top bezel manages to squeeze in an earpiece and dual 16MP cameras on the left. The bottom bezel’s only function is as a banner for the HTC logo.

The rear of the HTC U12 is made of metal and not reflective glass like the U11 and U Ultra. There are two cameras positioned vertically in the middle of the phone with a dual led flash flanking them on the right.

There is no visible fingerprint scanner, so it is safe to assume that Qualcomm’s under-display scanner is in use here.

The specs for the HTC U12 are not far fetched. A Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. There are JBL speakers at the bottom but don’t expect an audio jack. Battery capacity isn’t stated and we are not bothered since this is just a concept.

Antutu has officially published a list of May’s best performing smartphones by taking the average benchmark scores of every device over the duration of the month. The list revealed that an Android device, the HTC U11 has overthrown Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus as the fastest smartphone in the world.

The HTC U11 beats the iPhone 7 Plus’ Antutu average benchmark scores of 174,299, with an average score of 180,079. Xiaomi’s Mi 6 is in third place with 172,494 and Samsung’s S8 and S8+ claim the fourth and fifth spots respectively.

Back in April, the iPhone 7’s position was replaced by the Mi 6 and Galaxy S8/S8+. Antutu has reported the iPhone 7’s average performance score has in fact decreased, notably due to the aging of the device and the build-up of software updates. According to the source, the decrease in the iPhone 7’s benchmark has been notable since the iOS 10.3 update.

The HTC U11 comes with a 5.5-inch 2K display and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835. It is HTC’s second flagship of the year.

A report from a Taiwanese media, Focus Taiwan says the HTC U11 is delivering strong sales. The new HTC flagship was unveiled in May and has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 powering it.

The  U11 is reported to be selling better than the M9 and the HTC 10 according to Chang Chia-lin, HTC’s President of Smartphones and Connected Devices Division. He also mentioned that supply issues plaguing the phone will be sorted in early July.

The Chairwoman of the Taiwan-based company, Cher Wang said during a shareholders meeting that next year (sales) results will be satisfactory. HTC has struggled in the smartphone department in the last couple of years which has led to losses. Last year it recorded a loss of NT$10.6 billion (US$349 million).

The company is however the top in the VR game as the HTC Vive is the best selling VR headset in the market right now.

The HTC U11 is the 2017 flagship phone from the Taiwanese company that is driven by Snapdragon 835. The USP of the phone is that the metallic frame of the phone is equipped with sensors that can be pressed. This feature is dubbed as HTC Sense. By short and long presses on the sides of the HTC U11, users can access frequently used apps and perform some other functions.

The HTC U11’s comes with 5.5-inch screen that supports a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. It is flanked with Gorilla Glass 5. The first durability test carried on the HTC U11 by JerryRigEverything is the scratch test on the screen. It can be seen that the HTC U11’s screen’s durability is on par with that of iPhone 7 and Galaxy S8. Deliberate scratching using a pointed object as well as keys and other sharp items will not easily scratch the screen.

The fingerprint scanner placed below the display could scratch quite easily. However, even after the scratches, it worked fine. There is no metal grille placed on the earpiece and the selfie camera is well-protected because of Gorilla Glass 5. There is no plastic on the rear camera, but its dual-LED housing has plastic on it which gets scratch easily. The metal lining around the main camera housing could get scratched in two or three attempts.

The sides of the HTC U11 and the buttons present on it are made up of metal. The edges of the phone scratches easily. Does it affect the performance of the Edge Sense feature? Even after the sides of the HTC U11 was scratch, the Edge Sense functioned seamlessly without any signs of malfunction.

The burn test that lasted for 8 seconds blackened the portion of the screen where the flame was applied. However, the display could recover in few seconds. Next comes the bend test of the HTC U11 that measures 7.9mm in thickness. When the pressure was applied from the rear side of the phone, it could bend quite easily. When it was flexed from the front, the HTC U11 started cracking. The front glass as well as the LCD panel were affected.

The HTC 10 was one of the most durable smartphones of 2016. However, when it comes to HTC U11, it seems that the company has compromised on the durability of the phone in a bid to offer improved design and creativity.

DxOMark benchmarking platform for camera sensors have given 89 points to Google Pixel’s 12-megapixel main camera. It was the highest ever score achieved by a smartphone camera until the HTC U11 was introduced. At the launch event of HTC U11, the Taiwanese company confirmed that the 12-megapixel rear camera has achieved a milestone score of 90 on DxOMark. The Google Pixel also struggles to capture impressive photos in low light. However, the night shots photographed through HTC U11 clearly shows that no other smartphone can shoot such remarkable images in low light.

The decorative lightings on the buildings appear stunning even though there is no natural light available at night. There is no confirmation on whether HDR was used to shoot these photos. It seems that the images were shot in auto mode.

Taiwanese smartphone giant HTC released a poster about two weeks back which points at a launch event scheduled for 15th of May. The poster discloses in clear terms that the device expected to be unveiled on that day belongs to the U series. The U-series device may be a surprise package after all, as a new AnTuTu benchmark records have shown an HTC U-series phone with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chip is in the works.

The smartphone is listed as HTC U-3F and quite curiously, the specifications listed for the U-3F is the same as those of the HTC CBP which was seen on AnTuTu’s database around March. It is possible that both listings are for the same device. The most spectacular of the specs listed is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor which powers the device as well as the Adreno 540 GPU. Meaning that HTC is joining the elite league of phone makers with SD 835-powered devices at present.
