Xiaomi will be debuting the Mi MIX 3 smartphone on Oct. 25 in China. The Mi MIX 2S that was unveiled earlier this year featured almost the same design as the Mi MIX 2 that was announced in September 2017, but it came with improved internals. Rumors surrounding the Mi MIX 3 have revealed that it will be arriving with a refreshed design along with powerful internals. Here is all the information on the specs and features of the Mi MIX 3 that have surfaced so far.

Xiaomi will be holding the launch event for the Mi MIX 3 on at 2 PM (local time) on Oct. 25. The unveil event will be held at The Palace Museum situated at the Forbidden City, Beijing.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 Design

All the Mi MIX series of smartphones that have released so far have featured tri-bezeless design. The original Mi MIX, Mi MIX 2 and Mi MIX 2S have featured slimmer upper and side bezels. The selfie cameras on the Mi MIX series were placed on the bezel below the display. Hence, these phones have featured thicker bottom bezels. The upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 will be sporting a manual slider design. Since the front-facing camera of the MI MIX 3 is placed on its slider, the handset sports a super-slim bezels around the display.

The official image shown above shows that the bottom bezel is slightly thick, but considerably slimmer than predecessor models. The new design on the Mi MIX 3 certainly promises higher screen-to-body ratio of around 95 percent. The dual selfie camera unit and other sensors are also placed on the slider of the phone. Recent leaks have revealed that in order to unlock the phone, one needs to simply slide the display downwards and let the 3D face scanning sensors unlock the device. Initial reports have claimed that the phone will be equipped with an in-screen fingerprint reader. It was speculated to feature the same pressure-sensitive under-display fingerprint reader that was added on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro smartphone that was announced in the previous month. However, leaked photos that have shown the rear design of the phone have revealed that its will be resembling the Mi MIX 2S. In other words, the Mi MIX 3 may sport a vertical dual camera setup and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner like the Mi MIX 2S.

Xiaomi is also expected to release a special edition of the Mi MIX 3. It could be an artistic version and aesthetically beautiful version of the smartphone.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 Specifications and Features

The Mi MIX 3 is expected to arrive with a 6.4-inch S-AMOLED display that will carry support for 2340 x 1080 pixels Full HD+ resolution. The slide of the phone is fitted with LED enabled 24-megapixel dual selfie snappers. The backside of the Mi MIX 3 could be equipped with 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera setup.

Some leaks have also claimed that the unannounced Snapdragon 855 (Snapdragon 8150) could be the driving of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. However, the company may settle with the Snapdragon 845 SoC that is powers most of the Android flagship phones that have released this year. Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi MIX 3 will be the world’s first smartphone with 10 GB of RAM. It has also revealed that the Mi MIX 3 will be world’s first 5G commercial smartphone.

The smartphone is rumored to be packed with 3,850mAh battery. Xiaomi MI MIX 2S was the first phone from the company to arrive with support for wireless charging. The upcoming Mi MIX 3 is confirmed to feature faster wireless charging technology. Hence, the smartphone is expected to carry support for 10W or 15W wireless charging.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 Variants and Pricing

The base model of the Mi MIX 3 is rumored to include 128 GB of storage + 6 GB of RAM. The other variants of the smartphone include 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage + 8 GB RAM. Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue and Black are the speculated color editions of the MI MIX 3.

The Meizu M8 Note or Note 8 as it will be known in China is scheduled to launch on Thursday, October 25. Meizu has announced the event will only be live-streamed due to an issue with the venue it planned to use. Yesterday, images of the phone’s battery surfaced online, revealing its battery capacity.

Based on the image, the Meizu Note 8 will have a battery capacity of 3,520mAh. That is the minimum battery capacity. Its typical battery capacity is 3,600mah as revealed in the second image.

Soon after announcing the Huawei Mate 20 series of flagship phones through the Oct. 16 London launch event, the Chinese manufacturer confirmed that it will be announcing its newest flagship phones in China on Oct. 26. A new leak that has surfaced on Weibo suggests that the entire expect for the Mate 20X gaming smartphone and the premium Mate 20 RS Porsche Design phone, Huawei will be releasing only the other Mate 20 devices in China. The leak has also revealed the pricing and color variants of all the Mate 20 phones that will be hitting the home market.

The leaked image shown below states the Mate 20 that will carry a price tag of 4,299 Yuan (~$619) will feature 64 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM. The Mate 20 Pro that is priced at 5,299 Yuan (~$763) will be advanced version of the Mate 20 Pro as it will feature 128 GB of storage and the same 6 GB of RAM.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro that was unveiled in Europe features an in-screen fingerprint reader. However, the Mate 20 Pro arriving in China seems to be equipped with a regular rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The leak states that the more powerful Mate 20 Pro models will come equipped with under-display fingerprint scanner.

The leaked image further reveals that the Mate 20 Pro (UD) handset will be arriving in two variants. These include 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage + 8 GB RAM. Both phones are respectively priced at 5,799 Yuan (~$835) and 6,299 Yuan (~$907). Both of these models will be arriving with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. These smartphones are expected to release in China in color variants such as Emerald Green, Midnight Blue, Twilight and Black.

Xiaomi to soon launch Qualcomm Snapdragon 675-powered smartphone

Today, Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon 675 octa-core chipset for mid-range smartphone, with focus on gaming, imaging and artificial intelligence technology. The chipset is the successor to Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 which was launched in August this year.

Soon after the announcement of the SD675 SoC, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi said that it’ll launch a new mid-range smartphone powered by the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 675 processor, which is manufactured using the 11nm process.

Manu Kumar Jain, Global Vice President of Xiaomi and Managing Director of Xiaomi India made this announcement during Qualcomm‘s 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong. With this, Xioami has become the first company to announce a device powered by SD675 chipset and could also be the first to launch it.

The newly announced Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform is an octa-core processor that includes two performance cores of Cortex A76 clocked at 2.0GHz and six power-efficient cores of Cortex A55 clocked at 1.78GHz.

The chipset brings some advanced features on mid-range phones that are usually found only on high-end devices or flagship phones. It comes equipped with Adreno 61X graphics which carries support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Open CL 2.0, Vulkan, and DirectX 12.

It also supports front-facing or rear-mounted triple cameras with features such as portrait mode and 3D face unlock. It also carries support for limitless slow-motion videos of HD quality. Further, it includes X12 LTE modem with 600Mbps download speeds and 3x carrier acceleration, Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2×2 with MU-MIMIO, tri-band and Bluetooth 5.0.

The SD675 also has gaming-specific enhancements, similar to Huawei’s GPU Turbo optimisation. According to the company, compared to the Snapdragon 670 SoC, the newly announced Snapdragon 675 offers 30 percent faster gaming launch experience and 35 percent faster interest browsing.

While Xiaomi has not revealed the exact timeline for the SD675-powered smartphone apart from the fact that it’ll launch next year, we are expecting the phone to hit the market in the first quarter of 2019 given that Qualcomm has revealed that the chipset is already available to OEMs.

According to the below image, the Nubia X will be a near 100 percent screen-to-body. The second point on the list confirm the eye protection mode on the smartphone. The third point states that it will be featuring AI rear display which suggests apart from using it the back screen as a secondary display, it will also function mimic as the rear shell of the device by displaying different themes. The fourth point is a bit unclear to understand that the Nubia X will be a flexible smartphone.

The fifth points say that there is no notch on the Nubia X. No notch means there is no front-facing camera on the device. For shooting selfies, the rear-mounted dual cameras can be used, and the back display can work as the viewfinder. The six point seems to be suggesting the gaming and security capabilities of the smartphone. The Nubia X will be equipped with wireless charging technology, but the weird part is that it actually states that the phone can be charged through Wi-Fi. The last point on the list claims that the phone will be costing nearly 10,000 Yuan (~$1,440).

TENAA listing of the Nubia X that had surfaced in the previous month have already revealed the entire specs of the smartphone. The Nubia X has 6.26-inch notch-less FHD+ LCD screen as the main display. On its rear is the 5.1-inch HD+ OLED display. It is fueled by Snapdragon 845 SoC. the 64 GB and 128 GB storage variants of the phone are expected to respectively feature 6 GB and 8 GB of RAM.

The phone is tipped to feature dual side-mounted fingerprint scanners. For photography, the smartphone is equipped with 24-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual rear camera. It will be packed with a 3,800mAh battery that will carry support for fast charging.

China Consumer Association knocks Apple, asks to compensate Apple ID theft victims

In a recent Apple ID theft case in China, where Apple has denied compensation for some victims has got under the China Consumer Association lens. It has directed the Cupertino company to compensate all the users who have been the victim of the recent Apple ID scam in China. In the recent past, Apple cited an internal investigation that took place and revealed that the consumer accounts were hacked by phishing critical data via different schemes.

Even, consumers get to know about the Apple IDs being hacked when they received a bill of few thousand dollars in the statements. Those victims than appealed to Apple for compensation of the scammed amount. Apple compensated for some users, but many were left without any return. Later, the users who denied any kind of favour from Apple’s side reported the issue to China Consumer Association. Now, after a few days, the Chinese consumer body has criticised the Cupertino giant. They said in a statement that the company should understand its responsibility and compensate consumer’s full amount back.

In its own words, the association said, “Apple should not shift the blame, play down its own safety issues and divert consumers’ attention.”

Earlier, Apple directly pulled the blame on users by saying that the theft has happened because the two-factor authentication was not active on those accounts. Later Apple even said it in an official statement that, “small number of our users’ accounts were accessed through phishing scams where two-factor authentication was not enabled”. Even, Apple marked it as an issue that is related to the fraudulent iPhone warranty replacements which already costs billions to Apple.

Poco F1 could soon get Widevine L1 support for HD streaming

Xiaomi recently launched its first smartphone under its new ‘Poco’ sub-brand — Poco F1 with specs similar to a flagship phone at a very aggressive price point.

While the phone has been received well by the customers, it has faced a bit of criticism because of a few issues, including lack of support for HD streaming, screen bleeding, low audio, and a few software-related issues.

The phone lacks Widevine L1 support which prevents the device from streaming HD content from the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos. Now, a thread on the company’s forum by MIUI Forum admin reveals that the company is working with Google and Qualcomm to fix this issue.

It seems that Xiaomi is planning to soon release an update which will bring the widevine L1 support to POCO F1. The update is expected to be rolled out to MIUI Beta ROM users first by Q4, 2018, i.e. by the end of this year.

The company had recently released an update to fix the notification icon issue on the status bar. It is also developing 4K 60fps support for the rear camera. Additionally, users of POCO launcher will also have an option to customise desktop grid size and icon size in the future.

Previously, the company had issued a statement related to the screen bleeding issue and claimed that certain screens on MIUI 9 (MIUI for POCO) feature a gradient by design (including the power screen), and this is not screen bleeding. It added that gradient screen has been removed from MIUI 10 onwards.

The Poco F1 features a 6.18-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display which is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. The phone is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 processor and comes with LiquidCool technology.

It has a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 primary sensor, coupled with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor on the back panel. On the front side, there’s a 20-megapixel selfie camera powered with AI for capturing enhanced selfie shots.

Fresh information revealed by a reliable tipster from China claims that Samsung is actively working on a gaming smartphone. He also revealed that the phone could be equipped with its homegrown GPU.

Leaked information that had surfaced in June had claimed that the South Korean tech giant was working on a new GPU. At that time, it was reported that the company’s home-baked GPU will be made available on low-end smartphones. The Apple A11 Bionic that was introduced on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X features the custom GPU from the company. Now that Apple has attained success with its GPU, it appears that the South Korean company could be also prepping a powerful GPU for its rumored gaming smartphone.

There is no information available on the specifications of the first gaming smartphone from Xiaomi. Since Samsung has started using 8 GB of RAM of RAM on its smartphones, it is likely that the first Samsung gaming phone will be also equipped with same amount of RAM. It may include an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. For heat dissipation, the company may include a water carbon cooling system like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

Carl Pei says OnePlus will launch a 5G flagship smartphone next year

Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon recently revealed that there will be two 5G flagship smartphones launching next year. Then, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei joined him on stage at 4G/5G Summit 2018 in Hong Kong to make an announcement related to its 5G device.

Carl Pei announced that OnePlus will be among the first companies to launch a 5G smartphone next year, if not the first company to do so. He also revealed that OnePlus and his team had already conducted a 5G test at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego back in August.

The smartphone that Carl Pei is talking about could be the successor of the OnePlus 6T that will likely launch in mid-2019. It could be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the latest QTM052 mmWave antenna module that was introduced at the event.

This new smaller version of QTM052 mmWave antenna module will be crucial for enabling 5G connectivity on conventional smartphone form factors. Comparing this new version with the one that was launched back in July, this one is apparently 25 percent more compact.

Several manufacturers, including ASUS, Fujitsu, HMD Global, HTC, Inseego/Novatel Wireless, LG, Motorola, NetComm Wireless, NETGEAR, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, Sierra Wireless, Sony Mobile, Telit, Vivo, WNC, and Xiaomi are committed to 5G in 2019. Most of them have already started testing Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem earlier this year.

Qualcomm also announced that with the help of Ericsson, it made a successful over-the-air call from a smartphone form factor test device — powered by a Snapdragon X50 — over sub-6 GHz bands using 3GPP Rel-15 spec compliant 5G NR.

Meanwhile, OnePlus is all set to launch its latest flagship smartphone later this month — OnePlus 6T. The phone is expected to feature a 6.4-inch notched display and will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset along with 6GB/8GB of RAM. The device is confirmed to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. The company has also confirmed that it has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack.

All the major gaming smartphone makers have announced their respective gaming devices this year. Asus is out with their new edition of Asus ROG phone while Black Shark 2nd generation is also here and is slated to launch today. The Razer phone 2 is also available globally, and China launch is commencing soon. There are plenty of other competitors who have launched the gaming smartphones this year. Now going with the recent poster published by Nubia aka Red Magic on their official Weibo handle, then Nubia Red Magic 2 is also coming soon.

Nubia Red Magic’s second generation is ready for the launch with improved specs and performance. It will directly compete against the Asus’s ROG Phone 2 and Xiaomi’s Black Shark 2nd generation. Nubia Red Magic 2 has been teased in a poster with a huge gigantic robot having LED lights at some main spots.

Currently, no more details have been revealed, but we expect it to carry Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with liquid cooling technology. It would carry an 8 GB RAM module with 128 GB or 256 GB of internal ROM. The pricing and availability details are also unknown, and we expect pricing to be between 2500 Yuan- 3000 Yuan (~$360-$432).

Additionally, its predecessor carriers a Snapdragon 845 SoC onboard coupled with Adreno 540 graphics unit. It carries a 6-inch Full HD display with 8GB RAM (LPDDRX4) and 128GB ROM (UFS2.1). In order to remain intact with continuous power, Nubia has added 3800 mAh battery using an air-cooled technology. It is available for 2499 Yuan (~$360).

Snapdragon 675 officially announced with focus on gaming, imaging and AI for mid-range smartphones

In August, Qualcomm had announced the 10nm Snapdragon 670 chipset as the successor of the Snapdragon 660 SoC that was unveiled last year. The SD670 powers a couple of smartphones from leading manufacturers such as OPPO R17, Vivo X23 and Vivo Z3. Today, the U.S. based chip maker has taken off covers from the all new Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform that is built with 11nm LPP process technology as an improved version of the Snapdragon 670 SoC. The new chipset is aimed towards bringing enhanced gaming, imaging and AI features on mid-range smartphones.

The Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform is an octa-core processor that includes two performance cores of Cortex A76 working at 2.0 GHz and six power efficient cores of Cortex A55 clocking at 1.78 GHz. As mentioned above, the new chipset will be bringing some advanced features on mid-range phones that are now found only on high-end or flagship phones. The SoC is equipped with Adreno 61X graphics that carries support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Open CL 2.0, Vulkan, and DirectX 12.

As far as gaming is concerned, Qualcomm seems to have employed software gaming enhancements (like Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology) on the SD675 as it promises to deliver 90 percent reduced janks. Samsung is playing with new battery technology from the past few months, even last year, they have registered a patent for the same. The Korean giant is working on graphene batteries which is said to be much better than the Li-ion batteries. Last year, the Advanced Institute of Technology has tested graphene batteries and found that these batteries can be charged in 12 minutes. It can last longer and deteriorate less which make it more stable to use in the smartphones. These properties of graphene batteries seem to be impacting the decision of Samsung to use it soon in their upcoming devices early next year.

Samsung graphene batteries can hold 45% more charge than the current lithium-ion batteries. Graphene battery cells can be charged five times faster than the present technology. It means same capacity lithium-ion battery will take 1 hour to charge whereas the graphene battery will take only 12 minutes. Unlike the Li-ion batteries, they deteriorate less with the usage and the passage of time. These are smaller in size, which will help manufacturers utilise the same space for adding up some other things in the smart devices. Most importantly, graphene batteries won’t randomly explode making it the best option for the phones.

As per the industry insider, Samsung is done with the development of graphene batteries and they are ready to use it into devices by next year. Currently, the production cost is high, but with time, the cost will gradually come down enabling all OEMs to replace the Li-ion batteries. These batteries do not impact the environment as much as like the current solutions.
