The new Bixby is designed to act more like a conversational device agent rather than a traditional voice assistant that depends on rigid commands. Users can now describe what they want in everyday language, allowing the system to interpret intent instead of relying on exact feature names or menu navigation. This change aims to reduce friction, particularly for users who may not be familiar with device settings or terminology.

For instance, if someone wants their screen to remain active while reading, they can simply express that intention, and Bixby will identify the relevant option and enable it automatically. The assistant can also analyze current device behavior and suggest possible solutions when users ask why something is happening, helping them resolve issues faster without manual troubleshooting.

Another major addition is built-in real-time web search, allowing Bixby to present up-to-date information directly within its interface. Instead of opening a separate browser or switching apps, users receive results within the assistant, creating a more streamlined workflow. This integration could make Bixby more competitive as AI-driven assistants increasingly combine device controls with online knowledge access.

Samsung is making some bold changes to how it rolls out major One UI updates. Spoiler: the changes are beneficial for Galaxy users. Thanks to the latest move, the brand was able to make a quick turnaround with the One UI 8 release after a much-delayed One UI 7 release, and it appears things are only going to get better with upcoming One UI releases.

Samsung has made two major changes that impact the development of One UI, as well as its rollout. The brand is adopting Google’s Trunk Stable model for faster development, and secondly, it won’t be releasing new One UI versions with the latest Galaxy S-series models, but the Galaxy foldables will receive the first bite going forward. Let’s talk about them in detail.

Samsung is adopting Google’s faster development model

Google used to rely on a branch-based model for Android development. This approach needed each major Android version to be built in a separate branch and then merged into the main codebase when complete. While it worked well, it was not without problems. Merging large chinks of new code used to cause bugs and delays.

For Android 16, Google moved to a Trunk Stable model. It doesn’t require separate benches, but all development happens in a single, always-stable codebase. New features are hidden behind “feature flags,” and only appear in public builds once they’re fully ready.

The switch to the Trunk Stable model helped Google release Android 16 almost a quarter earlier than the usual release timeline. Samsung has also utilized Google’s Trunk Stable method for One UI 8 development, which is why it was able to achieve a major turnaround with a much faster release of One UI 8.

According to Samsung’s Sally Hyesoon Jeong — Executive VP and Head of Framework R&D at the Mobile eXperience division — Samsung’s long-term goal is to match Google’s pace for rolling out new Android versions with One UI at the top. This means we could see future One UI updates, such as One UI 8.5 and One UI 9, arriving much sooner than we are used to. This move by Samsung brings another significant change to who gets the first bite (more details below).

Samsung foldables will now launch with major One UI versions

So far, the latest Galaxy S-series have been getting the first bite of major One UI releases early in the year, while the newest foldables have debuted later in the year with a slightly updated One UI x.1.1 version. Well, that seems to be changing soon as Samsung is reportedly making changes to One UI releases.

According to a well-known tipster @UniverseIce, Samsung will debut major Android and One UI versions in the middle of the year alongside the newest foldable phones. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S-series phones launching early in the year will ship with an incremental software, likely One UI x.5.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed this just yet, but it seems fairly accurate. That’s because the brand usually launches new foldables around the same time Google releases a new version of Android. Since the brand is aiming to sync major software releases with Google, it’ll likely release the newest foldables with the latest OS and an incremental update a few months later for the Galaxy S series. This should also mean a faster-than-usual One UI rollout for older Galaxy devices.

There’s no match to Samsung in terms of software support. The brand offers seven years of Android OS updates to its high-end devices like the Galaxy S24 and S25 series — the best on any Android device. Only Google provides the same software support to its Pixel devices. However, the gap widens when it comes to mid-range and cheaper models.

Samsung now offers six years of major updates to some recently launched cheaper models — and it’s a big thing. Longer software support has long remained exclusive to expensive devices, but Samsung is narrowing that gap. In fact, newer cheaper models promise longer software support than not-so-old flagships. Take the Galaxy S23, for example, it was launched in 2023 but only gets four major Android updates, while the $130 Galaxy M16 5G will get two additional OS updates.

So, you can enjoy longer software support without the hefty price tag of a flagship phone. Here’s a list of Galaxy phones that promises six major Android OS updates.

With this move, Samsung became the obvious choice for anyone seeking longer software support from a non-Google brand. Mid-range Galaxy phones, though, didn’t receive much appreciation from Samsung in that regard until the Galaxy A16 arrived last year with six major OS updates promised. The new software update policy then expanded to many new mid-range Galaxy devices.

The extended software support for cheaper Galaxy models puts other Android brands in a tough spot. Most Android brands, except Google and Samsung, provide up to four Android updates. Only Oppo offers five Android updates, and that too is reserved for its premium phones. Samsung’s offering six major OS updates to cheaper models makes it a lucrative deal for those who prefer longer software support. It could be a key reason for switching to Samsung while also putting pressure on other brands to provide better software support.

Galaxy S23 Ultra has made an appearance on Geekbench running the Android 15-based One UI 7! This comes shortly after the Galaxy S24+ was also spotted on Geekbench with One UI 7.

Samsung seems to be working intensively on all its flagship devices. Following the Galaxy S24+, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has now been seen on Geekbench, confirming it runs on Android 15. We know that One UI 7 is based on Android 15.

After Google reached platform stability with Android 15, Samsung quickly started developing One UI 7. Samsung is likely to first release the One UI 7 as a Beta version and then a stable release expected later.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra achieved a single-core score of 1658 and a multi-core score of 4028. This test result was first shared on Twitter by Tarun Vats.

The South Korean tech giant’s upcoming Galaxy S24 FE was previously spotted on the UK carrier list, which revealed its SM-721U model number. To recall, the Galaxy S23 FE was launched back in October 2023, so we can expect a launch timeline near November or later.

As of right now, the new Samsung FE model was reportedly spotted in the One UI test build. The build version on Samsung’s firmware server is S721BXXU0AXE3/S721BOXM0AXE3/S721BXXU0AXE3. This lists the device with the SM-S721B model number. In other words, it could be the European version of the Galaxy S24 FE. Unfortunately, this is all the information that was revealed regarding this smartphone.

No matter how well-versed you are with your Galaxy smartphone, we bet there’s at least one hidden feature waiting to surprise you. So, here are the top 20 hidden features to make the most of your Samsung Galaxy phone.

1. Connectivity Labs

Samsung Galaxy phones have advanced Wi-Fi options hidden inside the Connectivity Labs. It shows you the Wi-Fi data usage and connection time. You can also see the received and transmitted data for a particular Wi-Fi connection.

The Connectivity Labs also shows the Wi-Fi usage time for connected Wi-Fi bands such as 2.4G and 5G, and Wi-Fi standards such as Wi-Fi 4, Wi-Fi 5, and Wi-Fi 6.

From the Customize Wi-Fi list settings, you can choose to show less or more Wi-Fi networks and band information.

To find Connectivity Labs, go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > tap three dots in the upper-right corner > Intelligent Wi-Fi and tap a few times on the Intelligent Wi-Fi option at the bottom to unhide Connectivity Labs.

2. Good Lock

If you like customizing your Galaxy phone and haven’t used Good Lock yet, you’re missing out on the advanced level of customization. Good Lock opens a new world of customization to your lock screen, themes, home screen, edge lighting, and more.

With Good Lock, you can do so many things, such as:

• Add/remove widgets to the lock screen.
• Create a theme with your choice of colors.
• Add motion effects to background images.
• Add particle effects to wallpapers.
• Create your own keyboard by adding, deleting, rearranging keys, and applying various styles.
• Customize the navigation bar icons.
• Change existing navigation bar options.
• Display recent apps in various styles.
• Create various clock styles.
• Decorate clocks on the AOD screen.
• Customize the status bar.

3. Call Background

With the Call Background feature, you can select a picture or video that will show up when you make or receive calls. It adds visual elements and provides a more personalized and dynamic experience.

Open the Phone app > tap three vertical dots > Settings > Call background > Background > select the background and tap Set as call background. Tap the “+” icon at the top to use photos or videos from the Gallery.

4. Edge Panels

Edge Panels give you an easy shortcut to access your favorite apps. This feature can be incredibly helpful if you frequently switch between a few apps.

To enable Edge Panels, go to Settings > Display and toggle on Edge panels. A small Edge Panel handle will appear on the upper-right side of your screen. You need to swipe it towards the center to open Edge Panels.

You can hold and drag the Edge Panel handle to change its location. Also, the Edge Panel can be customized to see selected apps, people, features, tasks, weather, reminders, and clipboard content.

5. Cool Notification Pop-Up Styles

Samsung Galaxy phones let you choose between different notification pop-up styles to make them look visually exciting.

Open the Settings app, tap Notifications, and select Notification pop-up style. Tap Edge lighting style and choose from a range of styles.

This doesn’t work with the Detailed notification style. So, make sure to choose the Brief style for the pop-up notifications.

6. Lift to Wake Your Phone Screen

You can save a few minutes every day using the Lift to Wake option. When enabled, the screen will automatically wake up as soon as you lift the device from your desk or take it out of your pocket.

It can be a productive feature if you unlock the device hundreds of times every single day, like me.

To enable this feature, open the Settings app, tap Advanced features, click Motion and gestures, and enable Lift to wake.

7. Battery Protection

You can extend the lifespan of your battery by limiting the maximum charge.

In One UI 6, go to Settings > Battery and toggle on Protect battery. This will limit the maximum charging to 85%.

In One UI 6.1, go to Settings > Battery and enable the Battery protection feature. Use the Adaptive mode or Maximum mode for better protection.

The Adaptive mode pauses charging while you are asleep and finishes charging the device just before you wake up. The Maximum mode limits the charging to 80% for maximum battery protection.

8. Adjust Sound Quality and Effects

By default, Dolby Atmos is not enabled on Samsung Galaxy devices. Enabling it can improve the surround sound experience and offer an immersive listening experience.

To enable Dolby Atmos (on supported devices), go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Sound quality and effects and toggle on Dolby Atmos.

You can also adjust the Equaliser and use UHQ upscaler for a better experience.

Samsung Galaxy phones also have an excellent Adapt sound feature that personalizes the sound experience to your hearing. You can take a hearing test to create a custom sound profile or choose from presets that adjust the sound based on typical hearing loss that occurs with age.

9. Modes and Routines

You might have already seen the Modes and Routines feature in the Settings app, but most Galaxy users aren’t aware of the good things it can do.

 For example, when you arrive at the gym, the routine can play your workout playlist and enable Do Not Disturb (DND). You can create a routine to disable Bluetooth, location services, and reduce the screen refresh rate when your battery goes below a certain percentage.

You can do a lot with Modes and Routines to automate things on your Galaxy device.

10. Secure Folder

Samsung Galaxy phones have a Secure Folder to keep your secret apps and files.

You can protect the Secure Folder with a strong password, which people around you can’t easily guess.

To enable Secure Folder, go to Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings and tap on Secure Folder. Now, set it up and store your secret files and apps.

11. Side Button Customization

You can customize the side button on your Samsung Galaxy to open a specific app when you double-press it. If your day revolves around a particular app, you know how helpful this feature can be.

Open the Settings app, tap Advanced features, and click Side button. Tap Open app and choose the app.

This feature works on any screen, including the lock screen.

12. Flash Notifications

You can set your Samsung Galaxy to flash the camera light or the screen when you receive notifications.

Even some keypad phones can flash the camera light for incoming calls and notifications. Samsung does it better by letting you choose apps, so you pick up your phone only when something important happens.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Advanced settings > Flash notification and enable Camera flash notification, Screen flash notification, or both.

Tapping on Camera flash notification lets you choose the apps. In addition to the app selection, the Screen flash notification lets you choose the color by tapping on it.

13. Music Share

The Music Share feature on Samsung Galaxy phones lets others play music through your speaker without them needing to pair their phone with your speaker. The reverse is also true.

You can find the Music Share feature by navigating to Settings > Connection > Bluetooth > tap three vertical dots > Advanced settings.

14. Link to Windows

Samsung Galaxy phones offer more Link to Windows features than many other smartphone brands because of the close ties between the two companies.

You can use Link to Windows to run Android apps directly on your Windows. It also offers drag-and-drop functionality and advanced calling features to make and receive calls using your PC.

Link to Windows shows your phone’s notifications on the PC and lets you copy-paste from one device to another.

15. Notification History

The Notification History feature records your notifications. It can be helpful when you accidentally dismiss all notifications.

It’s a handy feature that allows you to see deleted WhatsApp messages.

Notification history must be enabled before you can see them. To enable it, go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Notification history and toggle it on.

16. Video Call Effects

Although video calling apps like Meet and Zoom have built-in video call effects, Samsung has it natively. Customize the options and see them in action during video calls on supported apps.

To activate this feature, go to Settings > Advanced features and toggle on Video call effects. Now, tap on Video call effects (not the toggle) and play with the customizations.

17. Say “Cheese” to Take a Photo

There are a lot of times when you may find it hard to press the shutter button, such as while taking group selfies or placing your phone at a distance. Forget all the trouble and simply say “cheese” to instantly take a photo.

You can also show your palm to the camera to take a photo.

To activate these camera tricks, launch the Camera app and tap the Settings icon in the top-left corner. Now, tap on Shooting methods and enable Voice commands and Show palm.

18. Multi Window

Multi-window or split screen is an excellent productivity feature for using multiple apps on a single screen. For example, you can play a YouTube video on one side of the screen and take notes on the other. Also, you can watch a movie on one side and chat with your friends on the other.

To enable this feature, go to Settings > Advanced feature > Multi window and toggle on Swipe for split screen. Enable Full screen in Split screen view to hide the status bar in the split screen mode.

Now, launch one of the split screen apps and swipe up from the bottom of the screen with two fingers. Now, choose the second app for the split screen.

19. One-Handed Mode

Samsung Galaxy smartphones are getting bigger and bigger. While this is great for content consumption and many other tasks, sometimes we find it hard to operate with one hand. It becomes more difficult for people with small hands. One-handed mode is there to help by reducing the screen size. It even reduces the keyboard size for a compatible one-handed typing experience.

To enable this feature, go to Settings > Advanced features and enable One-handed mode. Now, tap on One-handed mode (the text part) and choose the Gesture or Button activation method.

The Gesture method requires users to swipe down from the Home button, while the Button method requires tapping the Home button two times in quick succession.

In this HyperOS vs One UI article, we’ll look at the major differences between the two popular custom skins.

HyperOS is the latest brainchild from Xiaomi, and it has been released after years of work. It has a lot of differences from MIUI, which you can read in this HyperOS vs MIUI post. We’ll compare it with the latest version of Samsung’s custom skin – One UI 6.1.

1. Lock Screen

You see the lock screen countless times every single day. So, let’s begin with it. Both HyperOS and One UI 6.1 offer plenty of lock screen options; however, HyperOS has lots of lock screen layouts to choose from. It also gives you the option to add depth effects.

One UI 6.1, on the other hand, lets you add multiple widgets to the lock screen. It also allows showing a wallpaper on the Always on Display (AOD) screen. However, as I write this post, this feature is only limited to the Galaxy S24 series.

One of the things I really like about HyperOS is that the AOD to lock screen animation is way better than in One UI 6.1.

2. Home Screen

One UI 6.1 gives you more home screen widgets than HyperOS, giving you more options to customise your home screen. You can even stack multiple widgets for easier access and to save space for more icons and widgets. This feature is also present in iPhones.

HyperOS has super folders, which give you many ways to sort apps in folders. This feature can be beneficial if you have a lot of apps on the home screen. One UI 6.1 doesn’t have it but allows you to change the background colour of app folders to identify them quickly. 

3. Control Center

HyperOS has an iOS-inspired control center with big toggles for Wi-Fi and mobile data at the top. The brightness and volume sliders are also very big to be able to identify them quickly. By default, app labels are hidden, which could make it challenging to identify which icon does what unless you’re used to it, though an option exists within settings to make them visible.

One UI 6.1 splits the quick panel (control center) into multiple areas. There are two large shortcuts at the top and then a section housing most shortcuts. Below that is a small section dedicated to SIM selection for calls, messages, and mobile data.

While both HyperOS and One UI 6.1 allow rearranging shortcuts in the control center, the former reveals all shortcuts on a single scrollable page, and the latter needs to swipe right or left.

4. Customisation

One UI 6.1 offers several advantages over HyperOS in terms of customisation. Firstly, there’s a colour palette option, which sort of refreshes the whole experience by changing the colour scheme. You wouldn’t find this option in HyperOS.

You have more AOD and home screen customisations, as we mentioned earlier. One of the things that I love about One UI 6.1 is its “Modes and Routines” feature. You can use it to enable/disable selected features at a specific time or place. One of my useful routines enables DND and AOD when I reach my workplace.

5. Performance

Both HyperOS and One UI 6.1 give a snappy experience. However, HyperOS has a slight edge over One UI, though the difference is minimal. 

6. AI Features

This is where One UI 6.1 leaves other Android custom skins in the dust, including HyperOS. It offers plenty of AI features, some of which might save you a lot of time. Except for some AI editing within the Gallery app, none of these AI features are found in HyperOS.

– Circle to Search

You can search for anything showing on your screen without opening another app. Just press and hold the home button or navigation bar and circle anything on your screen. HyperOS doesn’t offer this feature or anything similar.

– Powerful Gallery App

The Gallery app in One UI 6.1 gets AI smartness to help you move, remove, or resize the people and objects in photos. It will automatically generate background to fill in any missing portions. The custom skin also gives automatic editing suggestions.

HyperOS is not completely out of the picture here, as it also offers generative fill and the ability to cut out a subject from an image for background removal or save it as a sticker. Both HyperOS and One UI 6.1 let you change the image background.

One excellent addition to One UI 6.1 is the ability to see any videos in slow-mo just by holding on to it. You can even change the speed and save the video.

– Live Translate

One UI 6.1 features real-time translation during phone calls. It’s a handy feature for communicating with people from around the world.

You can choose the language you and the other person will listen to. The best part is that the other person doesn’t need a Samsung phone.

– AI Wallpaper

One UI 6.1 gives you the ability to generate wallpapers. Although it’s a great option to generate wallpapers based on your needs, there is a limited set of keywords to choose from.

– Browser Assist

Browser Assist in One UI 6.1 can quickly summarise and translate webpages. Using this feature, you can quickly understand the content without having to read through the entire article. You can also translate a webpage into the language of your choice.

– Note Assist

The Notes app in One UI 6.1 also gets AI smartness with the ability to auto format notes, translate language, summarise text, and correct grammatical mistakes. These AI features are helpful and can save you a lot of time if you take a lot of notes.

– Interpreter

The interpreter feature in One UI 6.1 helps you talk with someone face to face who doesn’t understand your language. Select your language and the other person’s language and start the conversation.

YouTubers do a lot of podcasts and interviews where the interpreter can play a crucial role.

7. Dynamic Notch

Similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island, HyperOS-powered smartphones have a dynamic notch feature, which works when you connect the charger, turn on Battery Saver, enable Do Not Disturb (DND), switch to silent mode, and turn on the hotspot.

The dynamic notch in HyperOS only works with a few actions, but it’s a cool visual element to have, which One UI lacks.

HyperOS or One UI: Which Is Better?

Both HyperOS and One UI are great, but picking one of them really depends on your needs and priorities. HyperOS gives you a minimalist experience with better lock screen customizations and integration with Xiaomi products. One UI 6.1, on the other hand, offers more customisations, widgets, and AI features. Last but not least, Samsung phones with One UI 6.1 better integrate with Windows.

As covered previously, Samsung Galaxy S23 users are facing an annoyance: their touchscreens become unresponsive after installing the latest One UI 6.1 update. This glitch is messing up the user experience big time, forcing users to tap repeatedly just to get basic functions working. However, Samsung has pointed fingers towards none other than Google.

Apparently, a bug lurking within the Google Discover Feed app is causing all of this. According to a Samsung press release, the company is working alongside Google to squash this bug and deliver a permanent fix. In the meantime, a temporary solution exists: users can clear the Google app data in their settings. This should restore normal touchscreen functionality, but it’s not the most ideal situation.

While waiting for a permanent solution, it’s worth considering the bigger picture. Software updates are supposed to improve our devices, not introduce problems. Update: Samsung Galaxy S20 and Note 20, Android 14 Update Hope Turns to Disappointment

After beta testing for months, Samsung finally started rolling out the Android 14-based One UI 6 stable update starting today. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S23 series is the first set of devices to receive the latest version of the company’s mobile software.

Following the rollout of the update, Samsung published an article on its website offering tips to make the most of the new camera features included in One UI 6. At the end of this post, the company confirms the handsets that will be receiving the latest Android 14.

To everyone’s surprise, certain devices that are not supposed to get the new Android update will be receiving it. Let’s go through the details.

Samsung hints that One UI 6 based on Android 14 will be available for its premium smartphones released in 2020 and 2019. These include Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and Galaxy Z Flip.

For the unaware, these phones are only eligible for three generations of Android updates, and they have already received them. So One UI 6 will be their fourth Android update.

Earlier this week, we covered that Samsung has started rolling out One UI 6 Android 14 OS-based Beta in India. This update was visible with the firmware version ending in ZWHO on the company’s Galaxy S23 smartphones. But what’s caught our attention is that the Galaxy S23 series is reportedly receiving One UI 6 Beta 3 in Germany.

In a recent post on X (formally Twitter), Tarun Vats shared images suggesting that few people in Germany have started receiving One UI 6 Beta 3. The update is visible with a build version ending in ZWI4 on the Galaxy S23 series, and the update size is around 1GB. Another post by Ahmad on X showcases various visual UI changes in the quick panel of the device that are provided below.

The images show that the WLAN and Mobile Data quick access options have been separated, which reportedly can be adjusted according to preferences. The post also confirms that the Dark mode can now be activated from the quick panel, located just below the image’s ‘adjust brightness’ bar. Aside from the visual changes in the quick panel of One UI 6 Beta 3, the previously introduced One UI 6 Beta 2 offers a range of improvements and features. One thing to note is that only a small amount of people in Germany and the UK have received this update so far. We are still determining if this so-called Beta 3 will be coming to Galaxy S23 devices for a broader audience. But with time, we expect to receive more information about One UI 6 Beta 3. Quick panel

• New Button Layout
• Quick Settings has a new layout that makes it easier to access the most commonly used functions. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth now have dedicated buttons at the top of the screen, while visual features like dark mode and eye comfort have been moved to the bottom. Other quick settings buttons are in a customizable area in the center.
• Instantly access the full quick panel By default, a compact quick panel with notifications appears when you swipe down from the top of the screen. If you swipe down again, notifications will disappear and the expanded quick control panel will appear. If you enable instant access to quick settings, you can view the expanded quick control panel by swiping down once the screen. If you swipe down from the left side, re-notifications from the right side of the top will be displayed

Lock Screen

• Reposition your watch – You now have the option to reposition your watch to the position you want on the lock screen.

Home Screen

• Simplified Icon Labels
• App icon labels are now a single line for a cleaner and simpler look. Removed “Galaxy” and “Samsung” from some app names to make them shorter and easier to scan.

Font

• New default font
• One UI 6 has a new default font with a more elegant and modern look. You will see the new font if the default font is selected in the settings. If you use a different font, you will see it even after upgrading to One UI 6.

Quick access to brightness control

• The brightness slider now appears by default in the compact quick panel when you swipe down once from the top of the screen for quicker and easier adjustment of brightness.

Improved album art display

• When playing music or video, the album art will cover the entire media controller in the notification panel if the app playing the music or video provides album art.

Improved notification layout

• Each notification is now displayed as a separate card, making it easier to see each notification.

Sort notifications by time

• You can now change your notification settings to sort by time instead of priority, so your most recent notifications are always at the top.

How to register for One UI 6 beta

If you wish to try out the One UI 6 beta on your compatible device, you can apply for it by following the steps below:

1. Install the Samsung Members App from the Google Play or Galaxy Store.
2. Login using your Account. (Note: You must have a Samsung Account to join the beta.)
3. You will be able to see a banner invite to the beta program.
4. Tap the banner and follow the One UI 6 beta registration.
5. After the registration, you will receive a notification to update, or users can go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install to check for the update.

After downloading, the device will restart, and you can enjoy One UI 6.

According to an official announcement, the South Korean tech giant is planning to include China, India, Poland, and the United Kingdom. These regions will receive the update on 4th September 2023. On the other hand, the second beta for the next-gen Android operating system might be released in Germany, South Korea, and the US later today (31st August 2023).

The company shared the announcement on its official Chinese Community Forum, which announced the second delay to September. It likely postponed the beta release over bug issues. The first iteration of the early One UI 6 build did feature minor issues like animation stutters or apps and widgets disappearing from the home screen. So it isn’t surprising that Samsung is taking its time to polish its Android 14 custom skin for better stability in the second beta.

For those unaware, beta programs are early versions of the stable release, which most users get eventually. One UI 6 will bring a more user-friendly experience along with other quality of life changes and design improvements. So stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Samsung’s latest One UI 5.1 update with version number A146BXXU1BWC3 has started rolling out to Galaxy A14 5G, providing users with new features and improved stability. Samsung has been actively pushing out new updates for its Galaxy lineup of smartphones, and in recent times, the South Korean giant has rolled out Android 13 for several phones. Now, it’s the turn of the company’s cheapest 5G smartphone to get the new update.

The Samsung Galaxy A42 5G mid-range smartphone has started receiving the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update. The phone debuted two years ago, which means that this could be the last major software update for the device.

Samsung is one of the brands that has been actively involved with the revamping of its software strategy and is trying to expand the longevity of its devices with regular updates for a longer period of time compared to other Android phone makers in the market.

The Galaxy A42 5G, which was launched a couple of years back with the Android 10 operating system out-of-the-box, is now getting the Android 13 update. As the update has just been released, it may take some time for everyone to get it.

The One UI 5.0 update based on the Android 13 operating system with firmware version A426NKSU2DVK2 and November 2022 security patch has been spotted in South Korea. It appears that not all the carriers are offering the new update, which means that the wider rollout could take a few more weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy A42 5G features a 6.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750 processor, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It also features an in-display fingerprint sensor for added security.

The phone has a quad-camera setup on the back that consists of a 48MP primary camera sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro lens. In 2020, Samsung introduced three generations of Android updates for its premium and select mid-range phones as well as tablets. For flagships, this policy covers the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S20 series, while the Galaxy S21 series and onwards are eligible for four Android updates.

Hence, the Galaxy 10 Lite is entitled to three OS upgrades, just like the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus, and Galaxy S10e. However, unlike the latter three, the former will receive the latest Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update.

The original Galaxy S10 family comprising the mainline three models debuted in early 2019 with Android 9.0 Pie onboard. On the other hand, the Galaxy S10 Lite was released in early 2020 with Android 10.

But all of them are qualified for three generations of Android updates. As a result, the inexpensive Galaxy S10 Lite will get access to Android 13 in the coming days.

In fact, Samsung has already started testing the firmware for the handset. It seems like there won’t be a public beta program for it.

According to update schedules shared by Samsung, the device will receive the stable update as early as December in regions like Germany and Malaysia. The update should be available in other markets in the following weeks.

The Galaxy S10 Lite was one of the best upper mi-range smartphones of its time. Back in May, Google announced the Android 13 Beta program and has been seeding builds for the eligible Pixel smartphones since then. Followed by this, Oppo recently revealed that it has started the development of ColorOS 13 based on the new version of Android. Now,  a leak discloses that even Samsung has joined the bandwagon.

According to the Chinese tipster Ice Universe who is known for his Samsung leaks, the South Korean electronics giant has kickstarted the development of One UI 5.0 based on Android 13. The leaker also shared an image on Weibo showing a device running the upcoming software.

In the comment section, the leaker also says there will not be One UI 4.5. It’s not surprising as Samsung did not release One UI 3.5 last year either. Instead, the company rolled out One UI 3.1.1. Perhaps, we may see One UI 4.1.1 in the second half of 2022.

Unfortunately, he does not reveal anything about the new features. But he does talk about animations. As per him, there are going to be major changes in animations.

Animations on One UI are generally considered one of the worst among Android skins. Thankfully, Samsung is finally fixing it in the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 release.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A31 in the first half of 2020. The device debuted with One UI 2.x based on Android 10. It was updated to Android 11-based One UI 3.1 in April 2021. A little over a year from that, the smartphone has now started receiving the Android 12 update with One UI 4.1.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has started pushing One UI 4.1 update based on Android 12 for the Galaxy A31. Apart from bringing a new version of Android and features, the latest software update for the handset also bumps up the security patch level to April 2022.

The OTA update is currently live in Russia. It arrives with firmware version A315FXXU1DVD8 and it is being rolled out in batches. It should be available in other regions in the coming days.

That being said, Android 12 is the final major system update for the Galaxy A31. Unlike the Galaxy A51 and the Galaxy A71, it is only eligible for two Android updates and has received them. Anyway, it will get security updates for a while.

Samsung launched the Galaxy F41 in India in October 2020 with Android 10 (One UI 2.x). The smartphone was updated to Android 11 (One UI 3.x) in January 2021. More than a year from that, the handset has now started receiving the Android 12 (One UI 4.1) update.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has begun to roll out One UI 4.1 update based on Android 12 for the Galaxy F41 in India. The latest software update for the phone arrives with March 2022 security patches carrying firmware version F415FXXU1CVD1.

Like any other OTA system update, this one is also being pushed in batches. Therefore, it will take some time to reach every unit. Some users may get access to the update earlier, while others may have to wait.

Additionally, the Galaxy F41 is also known as Galaxy M21s in Brazil. Hence, that device should also receive the Android 12 update soon.

Having said that, since the phone has received two Android updates since its release, it will no longer get any more OS updates. However, it will be receiving security updates for a while.

The Galaxy F41 was one of the best Samsung budget smartphones of its time. Lately, Samsung has been on a roll updating their older devices to Android 12-based operating systems. The company recently released the One UI 4.1 update for the Galaxy M62, and now, the company is rolling out the Android 12 update for the Galaxy A32 5G.

According to a SamMobiles report, the South Korean giant has started rolling out the Android 12-based One UI 4.1 update for the Galaxy A32 5G, but the update is currently live only for users in Thailand. Other regions are also soon expected to receive the update in the coming days. As for the Galaxy A32 4G variant, there is no word on when the device will get treated with Android 12.

The new update for the Galaxy A32 5G in Thailand (SM-A326B) carries firmware version A326BXXU4BVC8 and includes the March security patch. The security patch fixes upwards of 50 vulnerabilities discovered in Samsung and Google software. The update also bundles bug fixes, performance improvements, and device stability for the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G.

The One UI 4.1 offers a revamped design with a color palette and an improved general outlook. Other than the changes in looks and feel, the software update might also include the RAM Plus feature, offering devices the capability to expand their RAM virtually.

Users of the Galaxy A32 5G residing in Thailand can expect an OTA update notification any day now as the update is being rolled out in batches. If you don’t want to wait, you can also manually check for the update by accessing your smartphone’s settings menu. Once they open the settings and proceed to the Software update option, the firmware can be downloaded.

Android 12 is the second major software update for the Galaxy M31. As the device is not eligible for Samsung‘s three/four years of OS updates, it will not receive any new Android update hereafter. However, users can expect security updates for around two more years.

Samsung has started rolling out the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update for two more devices. The first handset is the mid-range Galaxy M52 5G, which was released last year. The second phone, on the other hand, is the Galaxy A90 5G, a premium Galaxy A series smartphone that was made available in limited markets.

According to SamMobile, the Android 12 update for the Galaxy M52 5G is currently live in India with firmware version M526BXXU1BVC6. Apart from bringing new features, the latest system update for the device also bumps up the security patch level to March 2022.

Whereas, the same update for the Galaxy A90 5G is being rolled out in South Korea. The software build arrives with firmware version A908NKSU4EVC1 and March 2022 security patches.

The One UI 4.0 update for these smartphones is being pushed in batches. Hence, it will take a few days to reach every user. Also, we expect Samsung to extend the availability of the update to more regions in the near future.

Android 12 is the first major software update for the Galaxy M52 5G. Whereas, it is the third major system update for Galaxy A90 5G. This former will be receiving one more big update next year, while the latter will only receive security patches going forward.

Last year, Samsung released three Galaxy A52 smartphones, namely Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy A52s 5G. The first two were unveiled in March and the last one came as a surprise in August. The latter was probably the best Samsung mid-range smartphone in 2021. But unfortunately, the device has apparently lost its mojo after the Android 12 update.

Samsung started rolling out Android 12 stable update with One UI 4.0 for the Galaxy A52s 5G in January. Two months later, the latest software is currently available for the handset in all the regions.

After updating to the fresh version of Android and One UI, users are now facing issues that were not present earlier, reports SamMobile. Multiple users of the phone have taken to Samsung forums to share the problems faced by them.

First and foremost, users say that the update has slowed down the device. Per them, the animations are now slower and the scrolling is janky. The performance issues are the most common among the users.

Secondly, many users are also experiencing battery drain. The battery performance is poor even when the high refresh rate mode is disabled. Then, there are some for whom the proximity sensor has stopped working properly during calls. Lastly, a user even reports degradation in speaker quality.

Samsung hasn’t officially responded to the user reports yet. But we can expect the company to fix the aforementioned issues with the One UI 4.1 update.

Samsung is currently ahead of any Android OEM in terms of software support. The company has been rolling out the stable Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update for eligible devices since November. The latest products to receive the new software are Galaxy Tab S6 and Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has started pushing Android 12 update for the Galaxy Tab S6 and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. The former gets it in Germany, whereas the latter receives it in France.

For the vanilla model, the update arrives with firmware version T865XXU5DVC3 and February 2022 security patches. On the other hand, the lite model is being treated with March 2022 security patches bearing firmware version P615XXU4EVC5.

Though One UI 4.1 is out, the Android 12 update for these tablets brings One UI 4.0. They may get access to the new version of One UI later.

Users in the aforementioned regions can head over to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check their unit has got the update. Anyway, the update should not be out for everyone as it is rolled out in batches.

We expect Samsung to extend the availability of Android 12 for the Galaxy Tab S6 and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite to more markets in the coming days.

Samsung is undoubtedly killing it when it comes to software updates. The company had only last year announced 3 years of OS updates for its S and A series, but surprised everyone recently by extending it to 4 years for the latter. And as if that’s not enough, a new clue shows that the Galaxy A series could be entitled to the same as well — with 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates.

While the official US press release, which most of the global media had referred to, had omitted the A series from the improved update policy, the Samsung Netherlands site suggests otherwise.

The Dutch version of the press release says that the new update policy will also apply to “select devices in the upcoming A series.” If not some weird typo, this would be a total game-changer as almost every other OEM provides no more than merely 2 Android updates for their mid-range devices.

It remains to be seen if the upcoming Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A73 will be eligible for 5 years of updates as well. The duo isn’t the most premium from the A series and may not make the cut considering Samsung has limited the extended software support to select devices from the lineup only.

However, the A5x series has always been one of the most popular devices from Samsung, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the upgraded update policy actually ends up applicable to it as well. Still, we should be getting more clarity on the matter in the coming days, so stay tuned.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A51 in December 2019. It has been only a little over 2 years since its release.  Despite that, the South Korean tech giant has already reduced the frequency of software updates for this smartphone.

According to GalaxyClub, Samsung has demoted the Galaxy A51 to biannual updates. The device had been receiving quarterly updates since its release. But unfortunately, not anymore as it will only get two security updates in a year.

For those unaware, the phone is eligible for three generations of OS updates. However, it has received only one in the form of Android 11 for now. Before it could get Android 12, the company has lowered its update frequency.

This raises a doubt whether Samsung will be able to keep up with its promise of delivering three Android updates and four years of security updates for Galaxy A51. Hopefully, the firm doesn’t disappoint customers and fans alike.

The handset is scheduled to get access to Android 12-based One UI 4.0 in April. Perhaps, the brand might start seeding the update a month earlier in March, like it has been doing for other eligible devices.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has started pushing One UI 4.0 stable update for Galaxy A52 5G. The new system update for the handset is currently live in Europe. 

It arrives with firmware version A526BXXU1BUL7. Apart from bringing Android 12, the update also bumps up the security patch level to January 2022.

Like any other OTA software update, this one is also being pushed in batches. In simpler words, some users will receive it earlier, while others may have to wait longer. Anyway, every unit should get access to the release in all the regions in the coming days.

The Galaxy A52 5G and its siblings (Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52s 5G) are eligible for three generations of Android updates and at least four years of security updates. Hence, these smartphones will be not only receiving Android 13 but also Android 14.

Though these phones will be getting longer software support, that does not mean they will not get an upgrade in terms of hardware. Samsung is expected to release their successor called Galaxy A53 very soon.
