Vivo S17 purple variant announced for China, here’s how it looks

Vivo unveiled the Vivo S17 and S17t smartphones in China back in May this year. The vanilla model has been available in colors like black, blue, and pink since launch. Today, the company announced the S17’s new purple variant for the Chinese market.

The new color variant of the Vivo S17, dubbed “Encounter Purple,” has been introduced on the occasion of the upcoming Chinese Valentine’s Day (Qixi Festival), which falls on Aug. 28 this year. Vivo is yet to confirm the availability of the S17’s purple variant. It appears that it will be available for purchase on that date.

Apart from the newly introduced Encounter Purple edition, the S17 can also be bought in other shades, such as Black, Mountain Sea Green (blue), and Sea of Flowers (pink).

The Vivo S17 houses a 6.78-inch AMOELD display with curved edges. It offers an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 10-bit colors. It features the Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset, up to 12 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It runs on the FunTouch OS 13.1-based Android 13.

The Vivo S17 has a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 front-facing camera with dual-LED flash. On the back, it has a 50-megapixel Samsung GN5 primary camera with OIS support, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide snapper, and a ring-LED flash.

Vivo is likely to launch the Vivo V29 series in different markets soon. One of the markets that is expected to receive it either by the end of this month or early in August appears to be Turkey. In the past few days, Vivo Turkey has released a couple of teasers for the upcoming V29 series. The latest teaser shown below has seemingly revealed the design of the Vivo V29 and V29 Pro.

In the teaser released by Vivo, the rear designs of the Vivo V29 and Vivo V29 Pro seem to have been revealed. The device features a primary snapper positioned in the top camera ring, and a second camera ring houses two additional cameras along with an LED flash. This design is likely to belong to the Vivo V29 model.

As per recent reports, the Vivo V29 will be equipped with a 6.78-inch AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz screen, a 50-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus support, and an OIS-enabled 64-megapixel main camera on the back. The device is expected to arrive with the Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of built-in storage, and a 4,505mAh battery with 80W charging.

The other model that features a triple camera unit with a ring LED flash appears to be the Vivo V29 Pro. Rumors suggest that Vivo is in the process of developing the Vivo V29 series of smartphones. Recently, Vivo introduced the Vivo V29 Lite 5G smartphone in the European market, and now it is said that the Vivo V29 and V29 Pro models will be launched in the near future. In a new development, the Vivo V29 has received approval from the GCF authority, an essential certification for a global release. It strongly indicates that the V29 will make its debut in the upcoming weeks.

The GCF certification confirms that the upcoming Vivo smartphone, with the model number V2250, will debut as the “Vivo V29.” Interestingly, the certification listing indicates that the device may not include “5G” in its name. The GCF listing reveals the network bands that will be supported by the device. As per the listing, the V29 will support 5G bands, such as n1, n2, n3, n5, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n66, n77, and n78.

Apart from getting spotted in GCF, the V2250 Vivo phone has been previously seen at other certification platforms, such as IMDA (Singapore), EEC (Europe), SDPPI (Indonesia), and Bluetooth SIG. The handset also recently appeared in the database of Geekbench benchmarking platform.

According to the Vivo V29’s Geekbench listing, the Snapdragon 778G Plus will power it. The device is also expected to come with 8 GB of RAM and Android 13, which will be overlaid with FunTouchOS 13. The other specifications of the device are yet to be revealed.

Rumours are rife that the Vivo V29 series will be announced in July in India and other markets. As per a recent report, the V29 Pro is expected to come with key specifications, such as a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED display, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, a 5,000mAh battery, 66W charging, and a 64-megapixel main camera with OIS.

Vivo has announced the Vivo S17 series of smartphones in China. The lineup has three phones, such as the Vivo S17, the Vivo S17t, and the Vivo S17 Pro. The S17 and S17t phones offer identical specifications and designs, but they differ mainly in the chipset department. Here is a look at everything that’s known about the S17 and S17t.

The Vivo S17 features a 6.78-inch curved-edge AMOLED display that offers an FHD+ resolution of 2800 x 1260 pixels, an 800000:1 contrast ratio, 10-bit colours, a 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device measures 164.18 x 74.37 x 7.46mm and weighs 186 grams.

The process involves three high-temperature baking stages, with each step carefully timed within 30 seconds to achieve the desired cascading effect of light and shadow. This gives the S17 series a visually impressive appearance.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 782G launched as a Snapdragon 778G+ refresh

Earlier this year, Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset as the successor of the Snapdragon 778G+ platform. However, in a surprise move, the company has refreshed the Snapdragon 778G+ with the launch of the new Snapdragon 782G SoC. The new chipset is quite similar to the old one, with a few minor upgrades. Let’s take a look at its details.

The Snapdragon 782G is a 6nm chipset with an 8-core Kryo 670 processor and an Adreno 642L GPU, much like the SD778G+. The CPU has the same core configuration as the 778G+: one Kryo 670 Prime core (Cortex-A78), which operates up to 200MHz faster at 2.7GHz; three Kryo 670 Gold cores (also Cortex-A78), which operates up to 2.2GHz; and four Kryo 670 Silver cores (Cortex-A55), which are clocked at 1.9GHz.

Qualcomm claims that the clock speed bump makes the CPU 5% faster, and the GPU 10% faster compared to the Snapdragon 778G+.

Similar to the previous SoC, the 782G supports up to 200MP resolution. The company claims to have boosted image details captured at 200MP. Additionally, it offers Quick Charge 4+ (up to 50% in 15 minutes), the same Fused AI Accelerator architecture, and the same Qualcomm Spectra ISP with triple 14-bit ISP compatibility.

FastConnect 6700 supports Wi-Fi 6 up to 2.9 Gbps, with plenty of capacity across the 6 GHz band and integrated Bluetooth® 5.2, while the modem is the same Snapdragon X53 with Sub-6GHz and mmWave capabilities.

Oppo Reno 9 series is all scheduled to debut on Nov. 24 in China. With only a few days remaining for the launch, the company is now busy confirming some of the key features of the Reno 9 series. Today, OPPO confirmed the camera capabilities of the Reno 9 lineup.

The below shown posters confirm that the Oppo Reno 9 series will have an autofocus-enabled 32-megapixel ultra-sensitive cat-eye lens for selfies. A 50-megapixel Sony flagship camera will be onboard for clearer photos in low-light conditions. It will support optical image stabilization (OIS). The Reno 9 series will also be equipped with a dual-core portrait computing engine dubbed the MariSilicon chip for enhanced photography.

The official renders of the Reno 9 series that surfaced last week revealed that only the Reno 9 Pro+ will have a triple camera unit. The Reno 9 and Reno 9 Pro are equipped with dual rear cameras. Also, the MariSilicon chip will only be available on the Pro variants.

Reports have revealed that the Oppo Reno 9 will have a 64-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel secondary lens. The Reno 9 Pro is expected to feature a 50-megapixel Sony IM890 main camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

The Oppo Reno 9 series landing page is now available on Oppo China’s website. It confirms that the new Reno models will be announced at 2:30 pm (local time) on Nov. 24 in China. The website has dedicated pages for the Reno 9 5G, Reno 9 Pro 5G, and Reno 9 Pro+ 5G. Each of the listed devices has revealed its official renders and configurations.

In the images below, the Oppo Reno 9, Reno 9 Pro, and Reno 9 Pro+ can be seen sporting an identical front design. The displays of all three devices have curved edges, a centrally aligned punch-hole, and an under-display fingerprint scanner.

The camera modules of the Reno 9 and 9 Pro sit flush with the rest of the back. Both phones have a dual-camera unit. Honor 80 Series Officially Confirmed to Debut on November 23

Honor recently confirmed that it will be holding a launch event on Nov. 23. The Honor Magic Vs foldable phone and Magic UI 7.0 will be unveiled at the event, according to the company. Today, it was confirmed that the Honor 80 series of smartphones will also launch alongside the above-mentioned products.

The OPPO Reno 9 series of smartphones is said to be in the works. Some reports have claimed that the Reno 9 family may go official as early as November in China. Well ahead of the launch, Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station has tipped the alleged specs of the Reno 9. Read on to know what to expect from the smartphone.

iQOO Z6 series has been announced in China. The lineup comprises two devices: iQOO Z6 and iQOO Z6x. This year, the company unveiled a couple of Z6-branded phones in India. However, the Z6 models that have launched today in China are branded new devices that haven’t been launched anywhere before.

Apart from featuring the Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset, the iQOO Z6 will include LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. In addition, it will be equipped with a six-layered ice-cooled liquid cooling technology for heat dissipation. For a couple of weeks, tipsters from China have been leaking information about the upcoming iQOO Z6 series. Today, iQOO took to its Weibo handle to confirm that it will be announcing the iQOO Z6 series at 7:30 PM (local time) on Aug. 25 in the home market.

After launching the iQOO Z5 and Z5x smartphones, the company hasn’t released a Z-series phone in China. However, in India, the company has already launched the iQOO Z6 5G, iQOO Z6 Pro 5G, and iQOO Z6 44W in India. It appears that the iQOO Z6 series heading to China will be different from the Indian models.

According to the tipster, the IQOO Z6 will be equipped with a high refresh rate display, which appears to be a 120Hz IPS LCD panel. It is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 778G+ chipset and to carry support for 80W rapid charging. For photography, it will be equipped with a 64-megapixel triple camera unit.

The Z6 will be available in variants, such as 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage, and 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. It will be sold in colors like Ink Jade, Golden Orange, and Xinghai.

Nothing could be working on its next phone. According to a report by The Mobile Indian, the next Nothing smartphone could be called the Phone (1) Lite. The moniker of the device suggests that it will be an inferior version of the Nothing Phone (1), which debuted last month. Before reading ahead, readers are advised to digest the leak with a pinch of salt as the company has denied the existence of the Nothing Phone (1) Lite.

It has been just a few days since the Nothing Phone (1) has been made available for purchase. The company has already encountered issues like shipment delays and quality issues with the device. Hence, it appears that Nothing will not be talking about the Phone (1) Lite even if it exists.

After months of teasing, Nothing has finally launched its first smartphone called the Nothing Phone (1). So let’s take a look at all of its specifications and features in detail.

Design & display

Starting off with the design, the Phone (1) is quite unique from other smartphones on the market. The company has made this device with a transparent back cover that reveals the grooves and outlines of the hardware inside the smartphone.

A clean-looking camera bump is tucked away in the top left corner of the device, which is outlined by one of the most unique features of the smartphone, the LED lights. The Nothing Phone (1) comes with a Glyph interface made up of over 900 LEDs. This is basically a multi-purpose notification light that can do more than just let you know that you got a notification.

It can act as a progress bar for when you are charging the phone, indicate when a device is being wirelessly reverse charged, and can also let you know who’s calling you when your phone is silent and faced down. Additionally, it also has custom notification light patterns to go with different apps. Other than that, the device features flat aluminum edges that give it a premium feel.

Up front, the Phone (1) comes with a 6.55-inch OLED Full HD+ AMOLED display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate. It has 500 nits typical brightness, 1,200 nits peak brightness, HDR10+ support, and 10-bit color. Honor will be announcing the Honor 70 series of smartphones on May 30 in China. The official renders of the Honor 70 surfaced last week. Now, the renders of the Honor 70 Pro have appeared on the Chinese retailer site JD.com.

The Honor 70 images revealed that it features a flat display. However, the Honor 70 Pro renders show that it is fitted with a quad-curved screen. Instead of the round-shaped camera rings available on the vanilla model, the Pro model features a pair of hexagonal units. The Honor 70 Pro is equipped with triple rear cameras and an LED flash.

As scheduled, Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi Civi 1S in China. The device is a lifestyle smartphone targeted at the female audience. It is merely a slightly upgraded version of the original Xiaomi Civi from late last year and not a successor. With that out of the day, let’s take a look at the things it has to offer.
