HTC debunks rumor about it not launching a HTC U13, reveals focus is on 5G

Last week, an exclusive report published by Phandroid, said that there wouldn’t be an HTC U13 next year. Instead, the Taiwanese phone maker would release “something else”. HTC has released an official response, debunking the statement.

While HTC didn’t explicitly say when the HTC U13 will launch, they did say that emphasis will be placed on 5G network technologies. It said it will build smartphones that will work with the new communication technology and will also focus on AI, blockchain and other technologies in the future. HTC also said it is still invested in virtual reality and its applications.

HTC U12+

This year, HTC did things a bit differently and it appears it will continue to make changes to its business next year. While other manufacturers released flagships in the first quarter, HTC announced mid-range phones like the HTC U11 Eyes, the HTC Desire 12+ and Desire 12.

When it eventually announced its flagship in May, it was called the HTC U12+. Usually, HTC would launch a non-plus variant first and then follow it with the Plus variant towards the end of the year but for 2018, the Plus variant launched first and there was no non-plus model.

The Realme U1 is an upcoming smartphone from Realme. The phone will be the first device launched following the manufacturer’s recent rebranding. It has also been confirmed to be the first phone to come with MediaTek‘s new Helio P70 chipset.

Ahead of its official release on November 28, a photo comparing its AnTuTu score to that of two of its rivals – the Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Honor 8X has appeared on the web.

Realme U1 AnTuTu

The Realme U1 is on the far right and appears as the RMX1833, the same model number as when it was seen on Geekbench. The Honor 8X is in the middle (JSN-AL00a) and the Redmi Note 6 Pro is on the right.

As you can see, the Helio P70-powered Realme U1 scored 145,021 points, beating the Kirin 710 by over 5,000 points and the Redmi Note 6 Pro by about 30,000 points. A breakdown of the score shows that the phone scored highest in the GPU test but comes after the Kirin 710 in CPU, UX, and memory tests.

Although the benchmark result doesn’t show some of the specs of the device, the image reveals the phone will have a waterdrop notch like the Realme 2 Pro.

Design

The phone with the most modern and futuristic design is the Honor 10 Lite. Thanks to its waterdrop notch it has the less visible bezels, it sports a very elegant glass back and you can even get it in two different gradient color variants. I like Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite but not as much as Honor 10 Lite because of its bigger notch. Huawei Mate 20 Lite’s notch is even bigger and its backside is sober but nothing special in terms of look.

Display

Whatever you choose, you will get more or less the same quality for the display. All of these handsets feature a classic IPS panel with a Full HD+ resolution, a sufficient color reproduction, and an average brightness. Huawei Mate 20 Lite is slightly better than its opponents thanks to its additional LTPS technology which usually makes brightness or viewing angles better.

Specs & Software

Talking about performance, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is the most convincing one because it has a slightly better SoC: the octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset by Qualcomm. The difference between this chipset and the Kirin 710 is more evident when it comes to graphics performance, so especially gaming, because of the more powerful GPU of the Snapdragon 660. But note that Honor 10 Lite is the only one to come with Android Pie out of the box, while its opponents are still based on Oreo.

Camera

Huawei Mate 20 Lite offers more impressive camera performances with its wide angle main camera which is also equipped with a depth sensor doing its job well. It captures an astonishing level of detail when light conditions are good, and it even has a dual front camera with a wide angle lens and a depth sensor. So, even when it comes to selfies, Huawei Mate 20 Lite is able to click better shots.

Battery

At last, Huawei Mate 20 Lite is better even on the battery side. It can last more on a single charge thanks to its bigger 3750 mAh unit. Honor 10 Lite is the most disappointing one as its battery has just 3000 mAh of capacity and it does not even feature a fast charging technology.

Price

Thanks to its better camera and battery, Huawei Mate 20 Lite is the superior device in this trio, but it also costs more. At the moment you have to spend more or less €300/$341 to get it, while Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite (second place for it) costs less than €240/$273 globally and Honor 10 Lite costs €175/$199 in China (it is still not in the global market).

Huami CEO reveals a “Revolutionary” Smart Wearable coming in 2019

Back in February 2018, Huami filed its IPO at the New York Stock Exchange, ushering a new era in its existence. The company CEO, Huang Wang, was present at the TechCrunch Shenzhen summit a couple of days back where he shared some key details about the company and its operations.

While taking at the event, Mr. Wang revealed that Huami will launch a “Revolutionary” wearable smart device in 2019. Unfortunately, he didn’t divulge any more information about the upcoming gadget. But judging from his comments at the event, where he stated that “smartwatches will replace smartphones in the future”, we could be looking at something really exciting from the company. If you remember, back at IFA, Nubia showed off its Nubia Alpha concept wearable, which was essentially a smartphone on the wrist. Huami could be aiming to release a similar smart device next year, but as of now, this is just a speculation.

Huami’s latest smartwatch, Amazfit Verge

Talking about the recently released Huangshan -1 chip for wearables, Mr. Wang added that it can screen the HR patterns of users via cloud-based AI. This helps to monitor the user’s heart rate carefully and check for any unusual patterns. Moreover, it looks like Huami is aiming to get the Huangshan – 1 chip on other wearable manufacturers in the market as well. So, it won’t be just limited to the company’s own smartwatches.

He also gave out some essential sales figures about the company’s recent devices. Until 2017, Huami’s total sales surpassed 18.1 million and user base was well above 56.1 million. Further, the recently released Mi Band 3 has managed to sell more than 10K units in the past five months alone. Even the Mi Band 2, which enjoyed a long stay in the market (Mi Band 3 had a pretty late release), sold more than 30 million units worldwide. Note that these figures are before the 11/11 singles day, where both these devices could have garnered a lot more sales.

Mr. Wang also added that just like Xiaomi, Huami too does not want to be tagged as a hardware company. He said that people consider Huami to be a hardware firm, however, the company positions itself as a sports and health big data firm. If you recall, time and again Xiaomi has positioned itself as an internet company, and not a hardware company. Further talking about Huami’s relationship with Xiaomi, he adds that both the companies work very closely and have interconnected ecosystems.

Finally, he revealed that the company’s overseas operations have been quite strong and Europe is now its second biggest market after China.

Exynos 7885-powered Samsung Galaxy M20 appears on Geekbench

Samsung will soon launch a new line of smartphones under the Galaxy M series. The Galaxy M is said to be the result of a merger of the Galaxy J, Galaxy On, and Galaxy C series. The first smartphone under the series, the Galaxy M20 has appeared on Geekbench.

The Galaxy M20 was benchmarked yesterday. It appears on the benchmark site as the “samsung SM-M205F”, running Android 8.1 Oreo and powered by an Exynos 7885 processor paired with 3GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy M20 Geekbench

The Exynos 7885 is a 14nm octa-core chipset with 2 Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 6 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.6GHz. It has a Mali-G71 MP2 GPU, Bluetooth 5.0, and support for LTE Cat. 12 3CA download and LTE Cat. 13 2CA upload speeds. On paper, the Exynos 7885 should offer better performance than the Snapdragon 630 and the Snapdragon 632 processors.

The benchmark result shows the Galaxy M20 scored 1319 points in the single-core test and 4074 points in the multi-core test. While the multi-core test score is similar to that of the Snapdragon 630 (Nokia 6.1 used to compare), the Exynos 7885 has a much higher single-core score.

[envira-gallery id=”224082″]

Its single-core score matches that of the Snapdragon 636 which should make the Galaxy M20 a direct competitor to the Redmi Note 5 (Pro), Redmi Note 6 Pro, and the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Asus ROG Phone to be Introduced in India on November 29

Nubia is said to debut its first gaming device, the Red Magic, in India next month. Now, after long-standing speculation, Asus will also be announcing its ROG gaming smartphone in the country. The launch is scheduled for November 29. It’s been quite some time since Asus first revealed it’s flashy ROG Phone back at Computex. Even the Nubia Red Magic is arriving very late in the country as its successor is to be revealed in a few days in China on November 28.

ASUS ROG Phone China

Apart from India, the ROG Phone was previously made available in the US and UK. For the Indian market, gaming phones are quite the new category as Honor was just the first device to market the Honor Play as a gaming smartphone. However, with the increasing popularity of mobile multiplayer titles like PUBG, there might just be some takers of these new devices. Speaking of which, we’re reminded that the ROG Phone with all its bling and firepower doesn’t come cheap, unlike the Honor Play. The phone retails for £799 (₹72,800) in the UK and if the Indian price is anything close to that region, Asus could have a hard time selling its first gaming device in the market.

Some of the most noticeable features of the ROG Phone include a tweaked 6.0-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. That is not to be seen on any other gaming phone except the Razer Phone. It also features a higher-clocked Snapdragon 845 that goes up to 2.96GHz, Bluetooth 5.0 with AptX HD, 3.5mm jack with a dedicated DAC, and a really unique sporty look and feel. Of course, no gaming smartphone is complete without an RGB light and the ROG Phone also has one on the back along with cooling vents placed on the side.

Asus knows the price sensitivity of the Indian market and it will be interesting to see how the Taiwanese giant prices its upcoming device.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 Likely to be Introduced on December 4th

Qualcomm’s mobile SoCs are the backbone of dozens of flagship smartphones that launch each year. The US-based chip maker has a solid reputation for manufacturing top-notch CPUs coupled with reliable modems and GPUs. That’s why everyone’s looking forward to the highly anticipated successor of the current Snapdragon 845 SoC. While Qualcomm seems to be a bit late this year, a report states that we could likely see the company’s first 7nm chipset on December 4. Qualcomm will be holding an event at the Qualcomm Technology Summit and Chinese press members have received invites with statements, ” Dare to be the first 5G mobile experience.” The 3-day event will take in Hawaii and the invite also contains a Xiaomi VR device with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC.

qualcomm_snapdragon_845

As far as the specs of the Snapdragon 8150 SoC are concerned, current talk is that it is expected to come with three-cluster CPU core design, similar to Kirin 980. The alleged chipset was recently detected at AnTuTu bagging an all-time record score of 362,292 which is unseen on any Android device. The only other CPU that can come close to it is Huawei’s Kirin 980 CPU. Huawei’s home-grown CPU marked 311,840 points. The Snapdragon 845 SoC in the Black Shark Helo is the next best with a score of 301,757 points.

The core architecture goes like this. There will be one large core clocked at 2.84GHz, three medium cores clocked at 2.4GHz, and finally, four small efficiency cores clocked at 1.78GHz. The GPU inside is believed to be the Adreno 640 which is 20 percent better than the previous version. After a likely reveal next month, we should see the first Snapdragon 8150 SoC devices hit the market in early 2019.

Samsung Galaxy A8s realistic renders showcase its Infinity-O display design

At the launch event of the Galaxy A9s in China, Samsung had teased the bezel-less design of the upcoming Galaxy A8s smartphone. At that time, industry experts from China had claimed that the Galaxy A8s would be arriving with a hole in its display for the front-facing camera. During the recently held Samsung Developers Conference (SDC) 2018 event, the South Korean company confirmed that this design will be called Infinity-O. A German publication has shared realistic renders of the smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy A8s concept

The concept renders of the Galaxy A8s reveals that it is equipped with slimmer bezels except for the bottom one which is slightly thick. The selfie camera is placed inside the hole located at the upper left corner of the screen. The new display design will certainly allow the Galaxy A8s to deliver more than 90 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The rear shell of the phone features a triple camera setup with LED flash. The brand name of the company is present below the fingerprint scanner. Probably, the handset could be equipped with a glass rear that will allow it to exhibit a premium appeal.

Samsung Galaxy A8s concept

There is no information available on the specifications of the smartphone. Samsung is rumored to launch a smartphone powered by Snapdragon 710 in early 2019. It could be the Galaxy A8s phone. The SoC of the phone could be coupled with 6 GB of RAM and it may feature an inbuilt storage of 128 GB.

Huawei trademarks 10N, 20C, 20N, 30C, 40C and more for future Honor phones

Huawei has filed multiple trademark applications for names of upcoming smartphones at the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Judging from these trademarks, we are pretty sure they are for future phones under the Honor brand.

Huawei Trademarks

The trademarks filed by the Chinese manufacturer are 10N, 20C, 20N, 30C, 30N, 40C, 40N, 50C, and 50N. Already, there is a phone in existence called the Honor 9N and the Honor 8C is one of the companies latest mid-range phones. So it is easy to piece it together that the trademarks are names of successors to the Honor 9N and Honor 8C.

Looking at the trademark again, one can deduce Huawei wants the Honor naming scheme to follow a similar path as that of its own Huawei-branded device. So instead of the Honor 11N coming after the Honor 10N, we will have the Honor 20N.

Xiaomi could be working on a Kindle like e-reader

Xiaomi always brings in something exciting to the news, and this time is the Kindle like an e-reader. The Chinese electronics maker has lots of different products varying from smart air filters to smartphones. From the past few months, many users were asking that how they can miss Kindle-like e-reader in their brochure. Today, Xiaomi Senior Product Director, Li Chuangqi positively replied to a similar query and responded regarding the development of e-reader, but did not confirm it.

Well, the answer can have different meanings, but it is conveying something positive about the e-readers. On the other hand, Mi Engineers on the forum said that Xiaomi completed a prototype of the device in the year 2017, but at that time the focus of the company was something else. The Chinese manufacturing company was focusing on smart home products at that time. Due to its small audience and less monetary profit and other benefits, Xiaomi didn’t pour in much efforts.

Now it is a good time to expand their reach to more business-oriented users. Xiaomi should rethink about the idea of Kindle-like an e-reader. Xiaomi should take an insight into the needs of the market and nurture their plans of expansion via different product catalogs.

Well, Xiaomi is one of the biggest company around the Globe which is creating every different kind of product with a smartness in it. They have created bulbs, shoes, air purifiers, lamps, toothbrushes and many never-ending lists of products. In the last couple of years, the company has strengthened its sale and marketing network around the world.
