ASUS to launch new Zenfone on October 17 in India

Just when we thought that our calendar was already filled with product launches this month, ASUS has announced it has a new phone coming soon. The Taiwanese electronics giant has begun sending out invites for a new phone set to launch in India.

ASUS Zenfone India Launch

According to the invite, ASUS will unveil a new Zenfone on October 17 in Delhi. The event will begin at 12:30 Midday but there is no info on the venue and we also do not know if it will be live-streamed.

We literally have no idea what phone ASUS plans to launch. The manufacturer has said it will launch the ASUS ROG Phone in India but the invite clearly says this launch is for a new Zenfone.

Geekbench reveals Lenovo S5 Pro will have a Snapdragon 660 SoC, TENAA listing surfaces too

The Lenovo S5 is scheduled to get a Pro version on October 18. We first learned of the S5 Pro’s existence via a Weibo post by Lenovo‘s own CEO. The social media platform usually identifies the device used in making a post, and for that specific post, which was actually a teaser for the manufacturer’s upcoming phone with four rear cameras, the Lenovo S5 Pro was the device used.

The Lenovo S5 Pro has been spotted on Geekbench and now we have an idea of what some of its specs are. The device was benchmarked today as the “Lenovo Lenovo L58041”.

Lenovo S5 Pro Geekbench

The benchmark result reveals the S5 Pro will come with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor and will have 6GB of RAM. Its benchmark scores are 1337 and 4928 points for the single-core and multi-core score respectively.

It turns out that a device with the same model number as above already got its TENAA certification. Thankfully, the TENAA listing reveals all the specs of the device and also includes images.

The Lenovo S5 Pro will have a 6.18-inch display with a 2246 x 1080 resolution. This is a much bigger screen than the S5’s 5.7” screen. The resolution is the same as that of the Motorola P30, so it is safe to say the S5 Pro will have a notch.

TENAA says the phone is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core processor and will come with 3GB/4GB/6GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB of expandable storage. Just like its sibling, the Lenovo S5 Pro will come with dual rear cameras – one is a 20MP sensor and the other is a 12MP sensor. However, the sensors are arranged vertically on the phone.

[envira-gallery id=”216490″]

Lenovo has also added an extra sensor to the front of the phone, so the S5 Pro gets a 20MP + 8MP combination for selfies. The 8MP camera is likely for capturing depth details. TENAA says the phone will have a 3500mAh battery and will come in black, red, gold, silver, and white.

Nokia 3.1 Plus vs Honor 8C vs Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro: Specs Comparison

In 2018, you need less than €200 if you want to get a smartphone which performs in a sufficient way in every scenario. But you have to face some compromises and you need to have some knowledge in the matter to choose the right device for you. If you are searching for a low-end handset allowing you to save money in this period, the newly-announced Nokia 3.1 Plus, Huawei Honor 8C, and Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro (known as Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite with Android One in the global market) are three very interesting choices. This comparison will help you to find the best among these.

Design

The handset I personally like more than the others is Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro for two reasons. First, it has a more attractive design thanks to its bezel-less display and the elegant metal back. Second, it is more compact, so easier to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket. Huawei Honor 8C comes right after, while Nokia 3.1 Plus has a more classic design which brings nothing really innovative.

Display

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro has the most exciting display as it is the only one to feature a Full HD+ resolution which provides a lot of detail more. On the other hand, it has the smallest display and you might not like it if you are an advanced user or a gamer. Nokia 3.1 Plus and Huawei Honor 8C have bigger displays, but their resolution is only 720p. So Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro wins.

Specs & Software

If performance is your main concern, then you should definitely go for the Huawei Honor 8C. It is the first smartphone to sport the new Snapdragon 632 chipset by Qualcomm which, according to the San Diego-based giant, will provide up to 40 percent better performance compared to Snapdragon 625 (present on the Redmi 6 Pro) and 626. Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro takes the second place, while Nokia 3.1 Plus is less powerful and it does not have a 4 GB of RAM version, unlike the others. While Honor 8C and Redmi 6 Pro come with customized user interfaces (EMUI and MIUI, Nokia 3.1 Plus has the stock Android One.

Camera

My favorite camera is the one on board of the Honor 8C due to its brighter aperture which allows achieving better results even when light conditions are not the best. And it is the same with the front camera which carries a resolution of 8 MP and can record videos with resolutions up to 1080p.

Battery

Despite Nokia 3.1 Plus is a bigger device, Huawei Honor 8C and Xiaomi Mi Redmi 6 Pro have the biggest batteries and they should last more. Given that Honor 8C was officially announced a few days ago, we had no chance to test its battery and we can not tell you which will last more between it and Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro.

Price

Nokia 3.1 Plus will soon hit the shelves with a price tag of $154/€133 in India, Honor 8C will sell for €136/$158 in China and Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is currently available for about $150/€130 in the global market. In my opinion, Honor 8C is the most interesting device in this comparison, but there are very marginal differences between these devices, so there is not a real winner.

Quad Camera-sporting Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) is heading to China

Samsung made a symbolic statement of intent with the launch of the Galaxy A9 (2018) packing a quad-camera setup at the rear. The Galaxy A9 (2018) is the first smartphone to have such a setup and it isn’t even a flagship device. Even though the cameras look like an overkill, it sure is a fitting way to rejig the company’s declining mid-range and budget lineup. One market where Samsung plans to overhaul its midrange and budget offerings is the Chinese market. Samsung has seen its market share fall drastically over the years as a result of the rise of local brands like Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo who offer premium models at affordable prices.Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) color editions

Indeed, the Korean tech giant has disclosed that the Galaxy A9 will be hitting China soon apparently in a bid to improve its market shares. A poster teasing the launch has been released but unfortunately, the exact date is yet to be disclosed. A date for the China launch will likely be released in the coming days.

The Galaxy A9 (2018) looks interesting for a midrange model, all thanks to a sleek design and the four cameras at the rear. The device features a glass back which houses the cameras and fingerprints scanner. The four cameras include an 8-megapixel ultra wide-angle sensor with f/2.4 aperture and a 120-degree field of view at the top. This is followed by a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. It offers 2x optical zoom. The third sensor is a 24-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture. Finally, there is a 5-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture that adds depth to the captured images follows the main sensor. We’ll have to wait for the reviews to see how the camera fares. We hope DXOMark will give us a review because it will be devoted to the rear camera setup. The Galaxy A9 (2018) also sports a mammoth 6.3-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2220×1080 pixel and screen aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The device is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE processor paired with 6GB of memory and 128GB of internal storage. Samsung will launch an 8GB RAM version in some markets and China will likely be one of them. At 599 euros (4,800 yuan), though, Samsung still does not have the price going for it. Mind you, it is powered by last year’s Snapdragon 660 chipset.

OnePlus 6T Geekbench listing reveals it will come with Android Pie

The OnePlus 6T will launch in about two weeks. OnePlus has already confirmed a bunch of key features of the phone but there are still more we do not know yet. There is a chance some if not all of these unknown details will become public knowledge before the launch date. Take for example this Geekbench result of the phone that reveals an important detail.

The OnePlus 6T was benchmarked as the FS FS P8801. The result confirms the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor and will have 8GB of RAM. There will also be a 6GB RAM variant as is the tradition with OnePlus phones.

OnePlus 6T geekbench

The above details are not new though. The big info in the benchmark result is the version of Android the phone is running which is Android 9 Pie. This is actually a big deal because it is the first time a OnePlus’ T-device will be running the latest version of Android out of the box.

The OnePlus 3T for example launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow even though Android 7.0 Nougat was already official. The OnePlus 5T also ran Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box even though Google had already released Android Oreo. So you see why this is a big deal?

Just as we reported, HMD Global didn’t announce the Nokia 7.1 Plus yesterday, instead, we got the Nokia 3.1 Plus. However, there is one more Nokia event holding in China on October 16 and there is a high chance the Nokia X7 (Nokia 7.1 Plus) will be announced there.

HMD Global has sent out a series of invites that reveal details such as the venue and time of the launch. They have also released a bunch of posters that tease some features of the phone.

The teaser poster, on the other hand, confirm the phone will have a Snapdragon processor, an AI camera features with automatic scene detection, stereo speakers at the bottom, and a USB Type-C port. This is even cheaper than the price of the 6GB+128GB variant which comes with a price tag of 649 euros (~$757, 5201 yuan) in Europe. Unfortunately, this super price tag will only be available in China. Hopefully, the device will also hit India with a competitive price tag.

POCO F1 coming to Offline Mi Home Stores from October 13, Will be Slightly Costlier

POCO F1 is one of the cheapest Snapdragon 845 smartphone that you can find in the market right now and starting tomorrow, the phone will be a lot easier to purchase for customers. POCO India has just announced that their flagship will be available to purchase across Mi Home stores in India starting tomorrow. Apart from the Mi Home stores, the POCO F1 is also going to be available via Xiaomi’s offline partner stores starting Wednesday, October 17.

Xiaomi Poco F1 Rosso Red
Xiaomi Poco F1 Rosso Red

This move was expected since the POCO F1 recently went on open sale via Mi.com as well as Flipkart.com. As the POCO F1 stocks have become relatively stable, it makes sense for the company to make the phone available to offline customers too, which still account for a major chunk of the Indian smartphone market.

Note that POCO F1 will be slightly costlier in offline stores. We don’t have an official figure yet but the slight increase in price is to offset the additional operational costs incurred in retail stores. The company has also not revealed whether all the variants and colors will be up for sale via its Mi Store. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow for more details.

To recap, the POCO F1 comes with Snapdragon 845 and 8GB RAM with LiquidCool technology. The phone has one of the best price to specs ratio in the market which makes it a good purchase option during the Diwali festival season in India.

In related news, the Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart has already teased the POCO F2 model. You can read more about it from here.

Chinese iPhone users’ Apple IDs compromised in a game scam

Apple iPhones are considered as the most secure and safest smartphones, but still, some loopholes can trick users into a scam. Similarly, in a recent event that has happened with the iPhone users in China, hackers compromised their Apple IDs. Some iPhone users are complaining about unauthorized purchases of thousand dollars being made on the Apple App Store.

Xiaomi Mi 8 vs iPhone X

These unauthorized purchases are generated from game apps in China. From past one month, many users have complained regarding these kinds of thefts. A man in the southeast China got hit with the bill of 3000 Yuan (~$432) after his Apple ID was used to buy several games. Even, a college-going student Li got duped of 648 Yuan (~$93) with her new Apple ID. Here’s the response she received from support, “Apple’s customer service said they can do nothing about it.” Surprisingly, Apple authorities denied any refund for some users.

Currently, there’s no concrete information about how the whole scam is working, but it’s expected to be originated from easy pay code scans. In an official statement, Apple said that affected accounts might have exposed when they scanned scam Quick Response (QR) Codes.

Apple has conveyed a message to users to shut the function as soon as possible and use passcodes to authenticate payments.

Overall, around 700 people have been affected and only a few have received the refunds. Others are still waiting or got denied for any reimbursements.

Apple ID is an important part of the iOS ecosystem, it is used to authenticate a person’s identity and is used while purchasing apps, and for using various iPhone services.

We think Apple should alleviate these frauds by adding some more authentication steps. Even users should be aware of these kinds of scams and use precautionary methods while performing any payment request.

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 gaming smartphone’s leaked video shows RGB lighting effects
