Xiaomi has silently launched its Mi Compact Bluetooth Speaker 2 in the Indian market, carrying a price tag of Rs. 799, which roughly converts to $11.

The newly launched Bluetooth speaker is quite portable, measuring just 50 x 32mm and weighs just 54 grams. It has a parametric speaker mesh cover which offers aesthetic look.

It comes with powerful neodymium drivers which Xiaomi claims can deliver superior clarity and better response. The speaker also comes with a built-in microphone, allowing users to take incoming calls.

Xiaomi is sure making headway in its drive to expand in Europe with recent entry to France, Spain, Italy among others. U.K will soon become the next port of call for the Chinese tech giant. Recently, an ad for a Store Manager for a Xiaomi retail store that would be located in a large shopping center in Westfield, London was spotted online. The ad clearly stated that Xiaomi was aiming to launch its first UK flagship store in London.

In the same light, Xiaomi UK tweeted it first tweet on Monday. The tweet did not reveal anything about a debut date but it clearly confirms the impending entry of Xiaomi into the UK market. The launch will a big boost for the company and we expect other cities to follow. No date has been revealed for that yet but we’ll keep you updated when it happens.

New leaked official renders show the OnePlus 6T in Mirror Black and Midnight Black

The OnePlus 6T is scheduled for release later this month although the launch date hasn’t been officially confirmed. While we wait for a confirmation, new renders of the phone have surfaced courtesy of Winfuture.de and they show the device in two color variants.

Based on the renders, the OnePlus 6T will come in Mirror Black and Midnight Black just like the OnePlus 6. These are just two of the total color variants that will be announced. We expect OnePlus to launch more colors including a custom version tied to a popular franchise.

The new flagship will have a waterdrop notch as shown in the images. The dual rear cameras will remain in the same position as that of the OnePlus 6 and right below them is the LED flash.

Apart from the notch, another major change is the position of the fingerprint scanner. As you can see, it is no longer on the back. It has actually found its way back to the front but not its old position. The fingerprint scanner of the OnePlus 6T is buried under the AMOLED display just like that of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro.

A few days ago, Honor India released a teaser hinting at a new color variant for the Honor Play. The new color variant launched today and its called Ultra Violet.

With the addition of the new color variant, the Honor Play is now available in three colors including Black and Blue. The Ultra Violet color variant is only available in 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM. There is no info on a 6GB RAM variant. The new color variant will be an Amazon India exclusive. It will sell for INR 19,999 and go on sale on October 3.

The Honor Play was launched in China back in July before making its way to India in August. It has a 6.3-inch 1080 x 2340 screen with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There is a Kirin 970 chipset under the hood along with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Oppo announces its first India Research & Development unit in Hyderabad

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has announced its first Research & Development unit in India, located in Hyderabad. The company has also announced the appointment of former Samsung India executive Tasleem Arif to head this research and development centre.

However, the Chinese firm has not yet disclosed information related to the investment for the new Research & Development centre in India. This will be the company’s seventh such facility globally. It already has four such centres across China in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Dongguan, one each in Japan (Yokohama) and the USA.

The upcoming R&D centre in Hyderabad, India, will work towards gaining deeper insights about Indian consumers and market, and thereby help in building India-centric innovations and customised product offerings, OPPO said in a statement.

Charles Wong, OPPO India President, said, “We are focused towards offering unique experiences to our consumers in India through our innovations and technological capabilities. The opening of our first R&D Centre in Hyderabad is a step in that direction and strengthens our commitment to the Indian consumers.”

As the Vice President and Head of R&D at Oppo India, Tasleem Arif will be leading the team which will focus on software localisation for Indian consumers as well as device quality. He brings to the new role almost 15 years of experience in mobile software, design and development.

The company has already acquired land and has started work to establish operations for its upcoming bigger facility “Industry Park”, and is planned to go into operations next year.

Design

If you want the most beautiful device, choose Lenovo Z5 without even thinking. First of all, it has the most narrow bezels and the highest screen-to-body ratio of the trio. I would pick again Lenovo Z5 on the display side. Third-Gen Google Chromecast gets sold ahead of official release

Google will announce a number of new devices at its October 9 event. While the focus is on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, there are other devices such as a new PixelBook or Pixel Slate has new reports have revealed, the Google Home Hub which has a screen, and more. There is also supposed to be a new Chromecast which was spotted earlier this year at the FCC.

A Reddit user was able to get his hands on a unit ahead of its release thanks to an error by Best Buy. The Reddit user who goes by the name GroveStreetHomie was sold the new version of the Google Chromecast by a Best Buy store. Below is his narration of what went down:

I went to Best Buy earlier to pick up a Chromecast for my new TV, then I noticed the packaging and design was different from my first one. I thought it was just a design refresh taking queues from the Chromecast Ultra. Then when I was at the cashier, they couldn’t scan the item because it wasn’t in the system yet because the release date is on the 9th of October (Same day as the 2018 Google event) but I guess they put it out too early. But since I already had it in my hand and was the same price as the 2nd generation Chromecast, they let me have it under the old SKU.

The new Chromecast comes in black but now has a matte finish instead of gloss. It also ditches the Chromecast logo for the “G” Google logo used by the Pixel phones. GroveStreetHomie also says it is slightly thicker and the HDMI cable doesn’t magnetically stick to the base of the device anymore.

If you were looking forward to a Type-C port for power, sorry to burst your bubble but Google is sticking to MicroUSB again.

The device doesn’t work yet according to the owner. It requires a new version of the Home app which has not yet been released. Since the device will formally be announced on October 9 and go on sale on the same day, the update should arrive then too.

A new Meizu phone has made its way to TENAA. The phone’s model number is M822Q and its specifications put it in the mid-range category.

The Meizu M822Q has a 6.0-inch screen with a 2160 x 1080 resolution. It is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core processor. The two chipsets that have this clock speed are the Snapdragon 636 and Snapdragon 450. Based on the display and the rest of the specs, we believe it is the Snapdragon 636.

When the Honor 8X Max was unveiled last month, it was announced in two variants – one powered by the Snapdragon 636 and another powered by the Snapdragon 660. Only the Snapdragon 636 version has been available for purchase since the phone went on sale. Starting today, you can now pre-order the Snapdragon 660 version.

The Snapdragon 660 version of the Honor 8X Max has 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It is available in Magic Night Black, Charm Blue, and Charm Red and is priced at ¥1799 (~$260).

The Honor 8X Max has a 7.12-inch screen with a water-drop notch and a 1080 x 2244 resolution. It has a 16MP+2MP dual camera combo on its rear and an 8MP front-facing camera. It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a MicroUSB port for charging its 5000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0.

The price is a bit higher than the Xiaomi Mi 6X with the same memory configuration which is priced at ¥1599 (~$233). However, the Honor 8X Max has a much bigger display, a larger battery capacity, stereo speakers and also keeps the 3.5mm audio jack. If these are features you like, then the extra $30 should be worth it. On the other hand, the Mi 6X has better cameras, Bluetooth 5.0, and a Type-C port. Also, its international version, the Mi A2, runs stock Android and will get updates faster than the Honor 8X Max.

Samsung Galaxy J6, which received a price cut in August this year, has now received yet another price cut, making the smartphone even cheaper.

With the new price cut, the 3GB RAM model is now available for Rs. 12,490 (approximately $171) while the 4GB RAM model costs Rs. 13,990 (approx. $192). The price drop comes less than a month after the company launched the Galaxy J6 Plus in India.

The Samsung Galaxy J6 was first launched in India in July earlier this year. The 3GB RAM variant was launched in India for Rs. 13,990 (~$192) while the 4GB RAM model was introduced for Rs. 16,490 (~$226). However, as said, model models received a price cut in August.

The phone features a 5.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED display with thin bezels and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the Samsung’s Exynos 7870 octa-core processor, along with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage.

The phone comes with a 13MP rear-facing camera and an 8MP front-facing camera for taking selfies and video calling. There’s also a fingerprint sensor placed on the back side for added security. Connectivity options on the device include Dual SIM card slots, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

In the software department, the handset runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system with Samsung Experience UI on top. The device is powered by a 3,000mAh battery that lacks fast charging support.

HMD Global sends out media invites for a launch event in India on October 11

HMD Global, the Finnish company behind the Nokia branded smartphones, has sent out media invites for a launch event scheduled to take place on 11th October in India.

While the company has not mentioned which device is plans to launch, it’s believed that HMD Global is planning to launch the Nokia 7.1 and the Nokia 7.1 Plus (aka Nokia X7) in the Indian market. It’s noteworthy that both the smartphones are expected to launch globally on 4th October.

The Nokia 7.1 Plus is rumoured to feature a notched display, just like the Nokia 5.1 Plus and the Nokia 6.1 Plus. On the other hand, the Nokia 7.1 is expected to come with a normal display, without any kind of notch.

The Nokia 7.1 could feature a 6-inch screen that will carry support for an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

It’s bigger variant, the Nokia 7.1 Plus, is also speculated to be driven by Snapdragon 710 12nm chipset, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. We are also expecting a bigger display and higher capacity battery for the Plus variant.

Both the smartphones will be a part of Google‘s Android One programme, and thus, there’s a possibility that the phones could be running the latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system out-of-the-box.

We’ll get more information about both the devices once they get launched on 4th October. For information related to the devices in the Indian market, we’ll have to wait till 11th October.

New changes on EMUI 9.0

Several new features and enhancements have been added to the latest EMUI 9.0. Notably, it brings new UI for Quick settings, newly designed volume slider, AI support for battery and camera, manual theme selection, notch support, improved adaptive brightness, and Google Digital wellbeing feature.

There are plenty of other changes which include various optimizations for performance and security than the older version.

Additionally, Huawei Mate 10 carries Kirin 970 with 6GB + 128GB and 4GB + 64 GB storage variants. It packs 6 inch AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio measuring 402 ppi density. In-camera there’s a 12 megapixel + 20 megapixel on the rear side and 8-megapixel shooter on the front side. In connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, A2DP, aptX HD, LE and GPS.

Huawei Y9 2019 with Kirin 710 SoC and dual front and rear cameras announced

Huawei has officially announced its latest smartphone in its home market — Huawei Y9 2019. As the name itself suggests, the smartphone is the successor of the Huawei Y9 (2018) that was announced early this year.

The Huawei Y9 2019 will be available in three color options — Midnight Black, Blue Swarovski, and Aurora Purple. While the phone is expected to go on sale in China later this month, the company has not yet announced the pricing information.

The phone features a 6.2-inch Full HD+ display (2340 x 1080 pixels) with a 2.5D curved glass on top and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the company’s own mid-range Kirin 710 octa-core 12nm processor, which was launched a couple of months ago.

It comes in two variants based on the memory configuration. The 4GB RAM model packs 64GB of internal storage while the 6GB RAM model comes with 128GB of internal storage. Both models have a microSD card slot, allowing users to further expand the storage capacity up to 400GB.
