Samsung is yet to officially confirm the rollout of Android Pie for its 2017 Galaxy S8 flagship models as well as the Galaxy Note 8 but there are indications the tech giant will push Android Pie upgrade based on the new One UI soon. This much was revealed via the WiFi Alliance certification pages for the three handsets.

The screenshots grabbed from the WiFi Alliance website shows the handsets come with model numbers SM-G9500, SM-G9550 and SM-N9500. The model numbers are those of the Chinese variants of the Galaxy S8, S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8, respectively. The listing was supposed to show just the WiFI certification but alongside comes the discovery that the models that were tested are running Android 9.0 Pie OS.

The Galaxy S8, S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 were launched running Android Nougat and later on Android Oreo update was pushed around Spring last year. Samsung is yet to disclose when Android Pie will hit the models but it may not be this year. An update is likely to happen sometime after January since the Galaxy S9-series and Note 9 will be getting Android Pie in January. As usual, new flagships usually take the front row seats when it comes to firmware updates.

Samsung launched its Galaxy Note 8 smartphone in India back in September. Now, the company has introduced a new Orchid Grey color variant in India, which is priced at Rs. 67,990 — similar to the pricing of other variants.

This new Orchid Grey color variant of Galaxy Note 8 will be available in India from April 17 across India and offline retail stores. Recently, the company had launched Burgundy Red color variant of the Galaxy S9 in India.

The Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch Infinity Display, a Super AMOLED screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. Under the hood, the device is powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 8895 processor, which is clocked at 2.3GHz.

In India, the device packs 6GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. There’s also an option to expand the phone’s storage capacity up to another 256GB through a microSD slot.

Coming to the camera department, the device comes with a 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel dual-rear camera at the back with dual OIS. Both come with f/1.7 aperture with Dual Pixel technology and also supports 2x optical zoom. On the front side, there’s an 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

One of the phone’s highlights is the S Pen, which is a stylus that enhances writing and other functions on this phone. This phone also receives the support of Samsung’s digital assistant — Bixby.

The device, which is water and dust resistant with IP68 certification support Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, GPS, and GLONASS as connectivity options. Sensors on the phone include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, barometer, and Iris scanner.

Samsung Turkey and Samsung Canada recently confirmed that Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will start receiving the final update to Android Oreo at the end of March. But according to a new report from France, the flagship phablet is already getting the update. A user has just published a screenshot of its device running Android Oreo after an official OTA update. So, it is not a beta firmware and it is the final version.

The build number of the update is N950FXXU3CRB9 and it brings Samsung Experience (the customized user interface from the company) to v9. The update to Android Oreo for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also includes the latest security patch (March) and several new features. Now, users will benefit from an improved keyboard and search, as well as a new Bixby briefing which is richer with information and quick actions.

After Samsung’s Turkish website has confirmed the official update dates for the Samsung Galaxy S7 series, the Galaxy Note 8 and the A-Series (2017), Samsung Canada has added new devices to the Android Oreo update roadmap. The roadmap only refers to Canada, so if you are not from Canada the date of the update for your device may be different.

But given that, usually, updates get rolled out gradually in some weeks at max, these dates give us a clear idea of the time frame in which the devices will finally get Android Oreo. According to Samsung Canada, Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will officially be updated in the country on March 18. Ten days after, on March 28, it will be the turn of the Galaxy Note 8. On spring/summer 2018 the company will start rolling out the update on the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Galaxy A5 (2017) and the flagship tablet Galaxy Tab S3 9.7-inch version.

Later in 2018, Samsung Galaxy XCover 4, Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy J3 Emerge, Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017), Galaxy Tab Active 2 and Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) will get updated as well. For each of the listed devices, the update will come alongside a new version of the customized user interface by the Korean giant, which will be called Samsung Experience 9.0. It will bring new features and improvements, as well as important bug fixes and security fixes.

The release details were spotted on the website – Güncelmiyiz which is owned and operated by Samsung Turkey.

The website is known for providing details about upcoming firmware updates for Samsung devices. So it is interesting to observe the latest update which reflects that Android 8.0 Oreo is the next major OS update for the Galaxy Note 8 and the firmware is in the test phase right now with a “planned update date” of March 30. In addition to the Galaxy Note 8 Oreo release date, the website also mentions that Android 8.0 Oreo is in the test phase for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge with a planned release date of April 13. Similar information is also given for the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 (2017) all of which are listed to receive the Oreo update on May 25 this year. In addition, the 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S3 is scheduled to receive Oreo on May 4.

In another light, the BB-8 wallpaper could just be used to showcase the Bixby AI UX but that isn’t likely the case because of the possibility of intellectual rights violation.

With only a customised wallpaper, that won’t be very much interesting for the huge Star Wars fans in China and around the globe. The company recently launched the Galaxy S8 Pirates of the Caribbeans special edition and just the box casing had an appreciable degree of customization. The phone itself was without any, except for customized Pirates of the Caribbeans theme installed inside. So, in this case, you likely not be getting a customization like the 2015 Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Edition that sports the Iron Man red and gold colours, as well as an Iron Man headshot on the back. Perhaps, the customization may also be on the packaging box and a theme based on the latest Star Wars edition.

The Galaxy Note 8 will be launched in India on a day Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 8 and other products. This could be a strategic move and we expect Samsung to announce the device at a slightly lower price than what it will sell in the U.S for instance. A previous report had disclosed that Samsung plans to give a free Desktop Experience (DeX) station to those who pre-order the device in India. This isn’t the first time Samsung is running such kind of offer, so it is possible. The tech giant rolled out the same offer earlier on in a number of European markets like Croatia.

There are talks that it would go official in China on September 29 and although Samsung is yet to officially reveal the price of the Galaxy Note 8, it is rumored to be more than 7,000 Yuan (around $1076) for the top variant. The device is expected to come with a price of 6,088 Yuan (~$915) in China for the 6GB base variant.  

The Galaxy Note 8 recommended retail prices for Hong Kong has been revealed and it looks like it will be a lot less than the price in China. Of course, both prices are expected to be a little lower than what it will sell in the U.S. There is news that the Samsung Note 8 will be launched in Hong Kong on September 13 while its sales would commence on September 29. The prices will be as follows;

• 6GB + 64GB: HK $ 6998, about 5,801 yuan
• 6GB + 128GB: HK $ 7698, about 6,382 yuan
• 6GB+ 256GB: HK $ 8198, about 6,797 yuan

The Galaxy Note 8 is Samsung’s most expensive model yet, with the price for its base model almost hitting $1,000 USD.  So, we really don’t expect it to fall very far below what it will sell in other markets but Hong Kong is a smaller market than China so it may not have the same prices. Also, the prices may slightly vary across different markets all over the world.

Samsung began receiving pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 8 in its home country, South Korea last week Thursday and reports indicate that the tech giant raked in about 395,000 pre-orders in just one day. The Galaxy Note 8 is Samsung’s most expensive smartphone till date with a price tag of 1,090,000 won ($964) for the 64GB variant and 1,250,000 won ($1,107) for the 256GB version. 

Despite its huge price tag, the Galaxy Note 8 was able to attract such huge interest whereas the botched Galaxy Note 7 last year was able to attract 380,000 pre-orders in over 13 days. This isn’t unconnected to the refreshed design it adopts which is different from its predecessors in so many ways. In addition, the Galaxy Note 8 is Samsung’s first smartphone to feature a dual camera setup. It is unclear though if the Note 8 would be able to surpass the feat achieved by the highly successful Galaxy S8 which reached 550,000 pre-orders in two days when it opened in Korea. With over 390,000 reservations already, that looks very much likely.

According to the report carried by The Korea Herald, 65% of customers who reserved the Note 8 went for the 64GB model and most of them chose the Deepsea Blue color variants. The figures are expected to exceed one million units by September 14. The device will go on sale on September 21 but those who pre-order will get the device along with their counterparts in the U.S on September 15 when it goes on sale.

The timing of the launch event is quite interesting, considering that the Mi Mix 2 is already billed to launch in China on September 11 and in addition to that, the flagship Apple iPhone 8 is set to be announced on September 12 in the U.S. The Galaxy note 8 China launch makes it a schedule of three big events in three consecutive days. The three models are all expected to feature a bezel-less full-screen design.

The Galaxy Note 8 has already been launched in the U.S and so it is the only model among the three expected models whose specifications and photos as well as price are already in the open. Also, the Galaxy Note 8 China Edition has got TENAA certification with model numbers SM-N9500 and SM-N9508. The TENAA listing shows the Note China Edition will come in Black, Blue and Gold colors and the specs will basically similar to that launched in New York. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was unveiled on Wednesday, taking the veil off a device that almost every detail was already known. The next “big thing” which would rock the tech world is the iPhone 8 which is equally expected to pack an amazing design. Both the iPhone 8 and Galaxy Note 8 will go head to head in a race for dominance of the premium smartphone market and just in case you are wondering how they square up to each other, GSMArena recently got an iPhone 8 dummy which they compared with the Galaxy Note 8. Here are some photos of both flagships side by side.

The iPhone 8 dummy seems to have been put up from the CAD schematics that have made the round severally. We can’t really say for sure if this would be the final design the device will come with but the dummy comes with a dimension of 143.5 x 71 x 7.5 mm while the Galaxy Note 8 obviously has a larger size with a dimension of 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 mm. One common feature expected on both flagship models is a large aspect ratio. The Galaxy Note 8 continues with the bezel-less infinity display utilized on the Galaxy S8 but the iPhone 8 has ultra-thin bezels at the edges which would have gone round if not for the protrusion on the top edge in order to make space for the front camera and facial scanning hardware.

Taking a look at the rear aspect, the Note 8 and iPhone 8 come with dual cameras but while that of iPhone 8 sits in a vertical plane, the Note 8’s are horizontal dual cameras. The Apple model has the LED flash in between the dual cameras while the Note 8 is positioned in the same way as found on the Galaxy S8. In addition, Apple’s dual camera hump is much more pronounced than that of the Note 8.

The duo was also captured from the sides and they are not in anyway similar. The Galaxy Note 8 retained the 3.5mm headphone jack, but Apple offers stereo speakers. In addition, the Note 8 comes with an S Pen stylus but Apple only uses that for its iPad models. So, what do you think? If the iPhone 8 comes with this design will it be a hit or miss?

The renders show the Note 8 from all angles, capturing all the features including a dual camera setup at the rear. The most prominent feature is the full-screen display with curved edges looking similar to the infinity display on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The Note 8 will still have a higher screen-to-body ratio and that would make it one giant full-screen phone. The flagship device seems to also have a ultra-thin body build despite its large size. Apart from the size and the presence of a dual-camera set up at the rear, the device looks similar to the Samsung S8.

It is starting to turn out positively that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 may be launched at IFA Berlin 2017 this September. Soon after the rumour of the impending launch surfaced, the Galaxy Note 8 has appeared in a benchmark test for its browser. The device was spotted in HTML5Test’s database where it is shown to be running Samsung’s latest Internet 5.2 web browser.

HTML5test is a web application for evaluating a web browser’s accuracy in implementing the web standards HTML5 and Web SQL Database, as well as the WebGL standard. To test a web browser, the phone user must visit the home page of the website html5test.com. So it is glaring that someone using the Galaxy Note 8 did run a test on the HTML5Test’s website.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Galaxy Note 8 made its appearance with the model number SM-N950F which is possibly its official model number for one of the versions. The entire Galaxy Note 8 models would likely have the model number SM-N950x, with the last letter varying according to the carrier and international models. Note that the botched Galaxy Note 7 had the model number SM-N930F on one of its versions while its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 5 came with an SM-N920x lineup.

The listing does not reveal many details apart from the fact that the device runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and pulled a total score of 488 out of a total of 555 points in the test. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is earlier rumoured to pack a 6.3-inch Infinity Display, Dual rear cameras with 3x optical zoom, an 8MP selfie camera, either an Exynos 8895 processor or a Snapdragon 836 SoC. It is also reported to miss out on an in-screen fingerprint reader.

There are strong indications that Samsung may launch the Galaxy Note 8 at IFA Berlin 2017. Sammobile reports that the tech giant has some chances of launching the successor to the defunct Note 7, as against recent reports that stated otherwise. The flagship Galaxy Note model is expected to debut this year with a better design and more thorough safety checks that would make a hurried launch unlikely. This is obviously to avoid a repeat of the unfortunate issues that bogged the Galaxy Note 7 and led to its total recall. 

Even though Samsung is yet to share any detail of the Galaxy Note 8, Sammobile quoted internal sources as saying the tech giant is planning to release the Galaxy Note 8 at the tech conference held annually in Berlin. To buttress their claim, the internal sources gave the point that Samsung had always unveiled a device during IFA and that the Gear S4 which could possibly be the alternative gadget that might be unveiled is unlikely to be ready before the conference. This they attributed to the fact that the development of a Tizen 3.0 wearable has only just started.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is rumoured to feature an edge-to-edge Infinity display that would be 6.3 inches in size. The device is also expected to pack an Exynos 8895 chip and a yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 836 chip on other models. The device is also expected with 6GB / 8GB RAM and AKG stereo speakers. The Note 8 is also expected to pack a powerful dual camera setup with 3X Optical zoom, a Bixby button and other features.

U.S-based fabless chip maker Qualcomm‘s rumoured Snapdragon 836 chip hit the news stand recently. The SD 836 chip is a revised version of the present Snapdragon 835 and is tipped as coming in the second half of the year. A new rumor has now emerged that the Snapdragon 836 processor will be featured on the expected Samsung Galaxy Note 8. If true, that would make the Galaxy Note 7 the first Snapdragon 836-powered smartphone.

The Galaxy Note 8 is Samsung’s next-gen flagship Note series smartphone which is expected to be launched in the second half of this year also. The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to utilize a 6.3-inch display and would be the same curved infinity display that was used on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. A recently leaked video had shown us the huge infinity display the Note 8 will feature as well as the front panel. The Note 8’s display is also expected to be a curved edge one with a high screen-to-body ratio which would likely be the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio featured on the Galaxy S8 with a 4K resolution.

On its part, the Snapdragon 836’s large cores are tipped to have a clock frequency of 2.5GHz, slightly higher than the 2.45GHz frequency of the SD 835 large cores. The small cores may likely retain the 1.90GHz clock frequency found on the SD 835. The tipster also revealed the SD 836’s GPU is clocked at 740MHz. The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to be announced during IFA Berlin 2017.

Samsung has no doubt rebounded from the Galaxy Note 7 debacle and is even almost set to relaunch the device with a new battery and slightly reduced price in some markets. The recovery was helped a great deal by the positive reviews and the successful outing of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ which were launched in April. In line with precedence, the next big announcement concerning a product launch from Samsung would likely be the  Galaxy Note 8.

We have had some strings of rumours relating to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in the recent past, almost all pointing at a 6.3-inch display. A new leak from the Netherlands has emerged, also towing the line that the Galaxy Note 8 would sport a 6.3-inch display but this leak went further to claim that the Note 8’s display would be the same curved infinity display that was used on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. As for its launch, that is still in the dark as well but it is alleged that the Note 8 is already being tested with Android 7.1.1 which means the device will launch in no distant time. Who knows, Samsung may launch the device during IFA Berlin 2017 coming up this September.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 8 later this year and the Galaxy Note series flagship is expected to pack a dual-lens camera setup. This isn’t the first time it would emerge that the Galaxy Note 8 would come with dual rear cameras. More details of the dual camera setup have surfaced from South Korea, Samsung’s home country. The Korea Herald quoted an analyst at Daishin Securities, Park Kang-ho as saying that although Samsung did not adopt dual cameras for the Galaxy S8, the tech giant will most likely feature dual cameras on its smartphone considering how the trending feature stole the spotlight at MWC, 2017.

Samsung is rumoured to be working on a replacement phablet for the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 whose journey ended even before it began last year. The Galaxy Note 8 has been the subject of several rumours lately and as would be expected some creative geek has pieced the rumours and leaks together to come up with a video render of the device.

The YouTube video showcases the render of the Galaxy Note 7 captured from all angles and was created by Concept Creators. The Galaxy Note 8 is expected with a giant 6.4-inch display as well as dual cameras at the rear and these all came to life in the latest renders.

From the video, the Galaxy Note 8 would feature a bezel-less Infinity display just like the Galaxy S8. This is a Note, so there is a built-in S Pen stylus which pops out from the bottom and offers up to 4,096 different levels of pressure, same as on the defunct Note 7. The Galaxy Note is also shown to come with a dual-lens camera set up at the rear, with the cameras aligned in the vertical direction. Some would agree that the Galaxy Note 8 promises to be more interesting than the Galaxy S8. After all, the S8 didn’t feature a dual camera setup, to the disappointment of some.

One feature which is absent on the Note 8 render is a rear fingerprint sensor. Perhaps, Concept Creator is suggesting that the sensor would be embedded under the screen up front. Other biometric security features like facial recognition and iris scanning will likely find their way into the Galaxy Note 8. The Bixby button is still visible at the side of the device, meaning it is likely going to be on the Note 8.

While these all look exciting, the renders aren’t the real stuff so the Galaxy Note 8 design might be different. It won’t be bad if the Note 8 comes out this beautiful, though, but it might just be too soon to say. The Galaxy Note 8 is likely a couple of months away and before then, more stunning renders will surely emerge.
