Samsung Introduces ISOCELL Plus Technology To Improve Photos In Low-Light Conditions

Low light-condition has always been the weakest points in smartphone photography. It has always been very hard to shoot good photos when there is not much light as the noise starts appearing and the details decrease drastically. Samsung is one of the few smartphone manufacturers who has been able to solve this problem and it is still doing it. The company has just unveiled a new technology called ISOCELL Plus which is able to improve low-light photography even more than before. Thanks to this technology, light isolation has been improved with a new material developed by Samsung in cooperation with Fujifilm.

samsung isocell

This new material will be used instead of the metal inside the sensors and it will increase light sensitivity by reducing light leaks. In detail, the next-gen sensors based on the ISOCELL Plus technology will be 15 percent more sensitive to light, even though the pixel size will remain the same. So, in order to achieve better results with low-light conditions, the company will not need larger sensors and the space occupied by them will not vary. The new technology will also improve the color accuracy and sharpness of mobile photos. A very smart and efficient solution which will let smartphones be closer to professional cameras.

RELATED: Samsung Sends Out Invitation For August 9 Galaxy Note 9 Launch Event

This is not the first innovative technology unveiled by Samsung this year. With the Galaxy S9 duo, the company has launched the first sensors for mobile devices to feature a variable aperture (it can switch from f/1.6 to f/2.4). Samsung will showcase the new ISOCELL Plus technology at MWCS 2018 (Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2018) in the upcoming days. The first phone to sport this technology should be either the Galaxy Note 9 coming in August or the Galaxy S10 line-up which will be unveiled in the first half of 2019 (most likely the S10 series).

Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon Wear 2500, Specially For Children’s Smartwatches

There have been requests for Qualcomm to announce a new chipset for smartwatches to replace 2016’s Snapdragon Wear 2100. On Tuesday, Qualcomm did announce a new Soc – the Snapdragon Wear 2500 – but with a caveat.

Qualcomm in its official press release revealed the new Snapdragon Wear 2500 is specifically made for kids’ smartwatches. The mobile platform like Qualcomm likes to refer to its chipsets was announced at the on-going Mobile World Congress Shanghai.

Snapdragon Wear 2500 For Kids Smartwatches Announced

According to the San-Diego based chipset company, the Snapdragon Wear 2100 is already widely used in the kids’ smartwatch segment by more than 10 OEMs. In order to drive development in the segment, it announced the Snapdragon Wear 2500.

The Wear 2500 offers up to a 14% increase in battery life (standby and active modes) compared to older generation models. It also has a 38% smaller PMIC and a 5th gen 4G LTE modem. Qualcomm says the chipset has an optimized version of Android for kids’ watches that is based on Android Oreo. The version of Android reportedly fits into a 512MB memory (most definitely RAM in this case since Wear 2100 smartwatches have 768MB RAM).

The new watch platform also supports NXP’s next-gen NFC for secure payment so kids can use their watches for paying for things in school. Snapdragon Wear 2500 also supports gesture-based gaming and apps.

Qualcomm says Huawei is the lead customer it is partnering with on the new chipset. So expect the first smartwatch with the new chipset to come from the Chinese giant. It is also working with Invensense Inc. on sensor algorithms.

Mysterious Nubia Flagship Has Dual Screen, Side-Mounted Fingerprint Sensors and Notch-less Display

Nubia CEO Ni Fei had recently revealed that the next flagship would be arriving with Full Screen 3.0 design which means that the handset will offer a higher screen space to the user. The Nubia Z17S smartphone that was launched in October last year offer a screen-to-body ratio of 90.36 percent. This indicates that the Nubia Z18 flagship smartphone that is expected to debut soon may offer an impressive screen-to-body ratio. Fresh set of photos of a mysterious Nubia flagship have appeared on SlashLeaks today. The new renders reveal that the smartphone has a very high screen real estate as it features a notch-less screen that is surrounded by super-slim bezels from all sides. Could it be the Nubia Z18?

nubia z19

As it can be seen in the new images, the screen-to-body ratio of this mysterious Nubia phone is very high its features a narrow forehead and chin. The slim bezel at the top features an earpiece. However, the selfie camera of the phone is not visible. The upper side of the phone seems to be barren and does not seem to show any kind of motorized mechanism for pop-up selfie camera like the one that is present on the Vivo NEX.

The bottom edge of the unidentified Nubia smartphone features a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB-C port and an external speaker grille. The handset does not feature a fingerprint scanner on its rear. The depression present on the left and right sides suggests that the fingerprint reader could be present on both the sides of the smartphone.

The rear view of the smartphone is quite interesting. The circular clock present on the back suggests that the handset could be equipped with a dual screen function. The dual-LED enabled horizontal dual camera setup sits flush on the backside of the phone. Hence, there is negligible camera bump on the device.

The very same handset might have appeared in real skin in the past week. There is a possibility that it may not be the Nubia Z18, but another flagship phone from the company. The reason behind it is that leaked schematics of the Z18 smartphone have revealed that it features a bezel-less display with a round notch and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner.

The Snapdragon 660-Powered Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 Gets Unboxed

After several months of speculations, Xiaomi finally launched the Mi Pad 4, its fourth-gen tablet model. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 adopts a design style different from those of its predecessors and on top of that it comes with an LTE version! Here are some pictures of the Mi Pad 4 getting unboxed by the guys at Chinese blog – Sina Technologies.Xiaomi Mi PAd 4

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 sports an 8-inch display just like its predecessors but in this case it adopts a 16:10 screen which ensures the device isn’t as wide as the previous models. Thus, the tablet can easily be held with one hand. The slab also has a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The top and bottom bezels seem to have been trimmed and are looking thinner than the predecessors. The device still comes with a centrally-placed selfie shooter while the home button is now designed to be inside the display.

The rear design also adopts a design which is slightly different from the previous models. It is an all-metal design but since there is an LTE version it became imperative that space be created for the antenna band and that was done at the top edge. The speaker grills at the back of the earlier Mi Pad models are also missing at the back. Instead, the device packs a design with the speaker grills located on either side of the USB Type-C port at the bottom. There is a single rear camera located at the top left corner. The design also includes the Mi logo at the back.Xiaomi Mi Pad 4

The major upgrade on the Mi Pad 4 is on the internals. The device is powered by the efficient Snapdragon 660 premium mid-range chipset paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM while there are 32GB/64GB storage versions. Xiaomi may release a 2GB RAM + 16GB model later on. The device will get its juice from a 6000mAh battery which is reputed to provide continuous music playback for up to 16 hours and streaming of up to 15 episodes of TV series. Xiaomi Mi Pad 4

Its name is TOF 3D Sensing Technology (where TOF stands for Time of Flight) and it has been revealed at MWC Shanghai 2018.

vivo

TOF 3D Sensing is a technology which works through the camera and it allows capturing depth and 3D information about people and objects. This technology will be useful for several appliances, such as AR, imaging and human-machine interaction. Thanks to the new Vivo’s technology, it is possible to detect the time it takes to emitted pulse light to come back to the sensor, and this allows mapping objects at distances of up to three meters. Further, TOF 3D Sensing is a useful technology for the whole AR sector as it can recognize the users’ gestures and motion recognition. It also has implications in 3D facial recognition used for authentications: indeed, it can capture 3D info with 300,000 sensor points.

According to Vivo, this technology is even superior to the Structured Light technology. Vivo’s technology can be used to beautify selfies after scanning the user’s face and it can even apply virtual clothes to the user. If all goes as expected, we may see this technology even in the gaming sector as it can track gestures, a useful thing for Mixed Reality games. At the moment, we do not know when the first smartphone with the new technology will be released, but it looks very promising and once it hits the market it could be revolutionary.

Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL Design Revealed Through 360-Degree Renders

The rumor mill has already revealed that the upcoming Google Pixel 3 will be fitted with an 18:9 aspect ratio display whereas the bigger Pixel 3 XL would be equipped with a notched display. Today, reliable leakster @OnLeaks has shared 360-degree renders in collaboration with an Indian tech publication to reveal the design of the forthcoming Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones.

Google Pixel 3 XL Renders and Key Features

As it can be seen in the video below, the Pixel 3 has a notch-less display that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9 like the Pixel 2 XL from last year. It is speculated that the smartphone would be featuring a 5.4-inch screen. The Pixel 3 renders reveal that it is fitted with a pair of speakers each positioned on the upper and lower bezel. The top bezel also seems to be housing dual selfie snappers. The handset measures 145.6 x 68.2 x 7.9mm.

The predecessor Pixel 2 that measures 145.7 x 69.7 x 7.8mm is fitted with a 5-inch screen. Despite featuring a larger display of 5.4 inches, the measurements of the Pixel 3 are very similar to the Pixel 2 smartphone. Because of the protruding rear camera, the thickness of the Pixel 3 increases to 8.6mm. The rear panel of the smartphone that features a single camera and a fingerprint scanner sports a two-tone design like its predecessor. It means that the upper portion of the back panel that houses the camera is of glass whereas the remaining part is made out of metal.

Google Pixel 3 XL Renders and Key Features

The renders of the Pixel 3 XL reveal that it houses a notched screen. This shows that Google too has embraced the notched display design like the other smartphone OEMs this year. The notched display of the Pixel 3 that measures 6.2 inches will offer a larger screen space to the user. However, there is no information on its screen-to-body ratio. The display of Pixel 3 XL offers an aspect ratio of 19:9. The smartphone that has a dimension of 158 x 76.6 x 7.9mm is quite similar to Pixel 2 XL that measures 157.9 x 76.7 x 7.9mm along with a smaller screen of 6 inches.

Like the smaller Pixel 3, the XL model is equipped with dual front speakers and it also seems to be fitted with a pair of selfie cameras. The Pixel 3 XL features a two-tone glass and metal design like its smaller sibling. What may disappoint the fans of Pixel smartphones it that the Pixel 3 XL will not be featuring dual rear cameras.

There is no fresh information available on the specifications of the Pixel 3 and 3 XL smartphones. These phones are most likely to be fueled by Snapdragon 845 SoC. The larger Pixel 3 XL may feature 6 GB of RAM. Like last year, the Pixel 3 duo may debut in October this year.

Samsung Galaxy S10 To Reportedly Come With A 6.44-Inch Infinity Display

Ahead of the launch of the next-generation Galaxy Note-series smartphone, reports related to the company’s next year’s flagship smartphone has started making rounds. The latest development indicates that one variant of the Galaxy S10 will come with a larger 6.44-inch Infinity Display.

According to the reports, the South Korean giant is planning to launch three models under the Galaxy S10 series and the addition of the third model is said to be for the triple-camera sensor model. An earlier report mentioned that while two models will have a 5.8-inch display, the third model will come with a 6.2-inch display. But the latest report hints that it is no longer the case.

The new report from South Korean indicates that the screen size for one of the model has now increased to 6.44-inch, which is expected to be the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, which will be the successor of the Galaxy S9 Plus. However, take this report with a pinch of salt given that there is no concrete evidence for increased screen size.

The different variants of the device are identified by the codenames Beyond 0, Beyond 1 and Beyond 2, respectively. Even though it will have a triple camera setup, the alleged Galaxy S10 Plus camera module will be different from the one of Huawei P20 Pro as the company is expected to develop its own sensors.

Earlier, it was reported that the Galaxy S10 will come with a display capable of emitting sound. Samsung had showcased its sound-emitting display concept at the Society of Information Displays (SID) 2018 where instead of an earpiece, the vibration and bone conduction of the display panel carries the sound.

Further, it is also speculated that the Galaxy S10 could also be Samsung’s first phone to come with 3D facial recognition similar to iPhone X and Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition. The Samsung Galaxy S10, expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 855 chipset, may get officially announced in January 2019.
