Leaked Live Photos Show The Nubia Z18 In Action

Nubia has still not announced a launch date for the Nubia Z18 flagship. There is a high chance it will arrive this month since the Z17 launched in June last year. The Z18 will come with a new full-screen design and some live photos just leaked to show us what it looks like.

Just so you can see how significantly different the Z18 is from the Z17, we will include a picture of the latter.

ZTE Nubia Z17 Profile Page

Can you see those huge bezels on the Nubia Z17? That should have been left in 2016 but they made it to 2017. However, we are glad they have been left there. The Nubia Z18 isn’t Nubia’s first full-screen phone actually. Those huge bezels were trimmed down on the Nubia Z17s but the Z18 pushes it further by stretching the screen further up and including a notch.

[envira-gallery id=”195243″]

Nubia has decided not to join the bandwagon of the iPhone X notch-style. Instead, it has borrowed a leaf from the Essential PH-1. The bottom bezel is still a bit thick and can house a fingerprint scanner but ZTE has decided to keep it at the back. Nubia rounds off the design by keeping the side bezels as thin as possible.

Since Xiaomi is yet to launch the Mi 8 series in India, the company did not include these phones in the aforementioned list of eligible devices at the unveil event of Redmi Y2. However, it is very likely that the Mi 8 series will be also treated with MIUI 10 beta later this month. As far as the stable build is concerned, it was only confirmed that it will be made available in the near future.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 vs Lenovo K5 Note (2018): Who’s the Low-End Segment King?

In 2018, you can get a relatively powerful device even if you are looking to spend less than 150 bucks! In my personal opinion, Xiaomi Redmi 5 and the new Lenovo K5 Note (2018) are among the best alternatives you can get in the price range just above $100. Today, we will compare Xiaomi Redmi 5 vs Lenovo K5 Note (2018) as the K5 Note has just been announced and it may cannibalize the sales of the Redmi 5 which is currently one of the best-selling devices under $150.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES Hybrid Dual SIM Dual SIM slot

Design

Their designs are pretty good for $150. Both feature a full metal unibody design which is not the most original one, but grants a solid build quality and a sleek body. Xiaomi Redmi 5 is the more compact device, while the K5 Note is the one with a wider display which is more suitable for productivity. Aesthetically, the K5 Note reminds of the latest Honor mid-rangers due to its dual camera setup positioned near the top right corner, while Redmi 5 is a bit more original because of its design and the available color variants.

Display

Both the devices come with a tall 18:9 display, but as said above, Lenovo K5 Note has a bigger panel. The resolution is the same (HD+), so you will get a slightly higher detail on the Redmi 5 due to its higher pixel density. The HD+ resolution is not the max on a 6-inch display, but the wider panel makes it more comfortable to use with complex apps. We will not choose a winner on the display side, it is up to you to decide if you want a bigger but less detailed display or a smaller but more detailed one.

Hardware/Software

We got exactly the same SoC on these devices: the Snapdragon 450. It is an octa-core chipset for the low-end sector, but it is not the most entry-level Qualcomm’s chipset. Indeed, it is the best one from the 4xx series, so you will get a pretty decent performance if you choose one of these devices. Further, you can get up to 4 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB on the K5 Note (4/32 GB for the Redmi 5), that is a high-end memory configuration which is very good in multi-tasking. In my opinion, the MIUI found on the Redmi 5 is definitely a better user interface than the one of K5 Note. It has tons of additional features and stunning performance, so I would pick the Redmi 5 for the software. Note that K5 Note has a micro SD dedicated slot (you can use the dual SIM slot and the micro SD one at the same time).

Camera

Photos shot from the Xiaomi Redmi 5 did not surprise us too much and we believe that Lenovo K5 Note will be able to do better. Xiaomi Redmi 5 shoots detailed photos in good light conditions, but not impressive ones, and a lot of digital noise starts appearing with low light. Lenovo K5 Note has an interesting dual camera with a 16MP resolution capable of calculating depth for an excellent bokeh effect. We are yet to see the first camera samples, but it seems better on the paper.

Battery

The battery side is another victory for Lenovo K5 Note. It features a massive 3760 mAh unit. Paired with very efficient components such as the Snapdragon 450 SoC and the HD+ display, we believe it will provide a full day of battery life even with a stressed use. Xiaomi Redmi 5 still has a satisfying battery life, but it isn’t as good as its opponent.

Price

The best thing is that both Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Lenovo K5 Note are sold at the same and very affordable price tag. In their 3/32 GB variant, both start from 799 Yuan in China (roughly $124/€106). Xiaomi is always the king of quality-price ratio, but this time it has a very good competition. According to us, Lenovo K5 Note wins the comparison thanks to its bigger battery and potentially better camera department.

What’s your pick?

Moto Z3 Play Hands On Pictures Showcase the Sleek Glass Body & More

Motorola launched the Moto Z3 Play yesterday as the first model in the Z3 series. As expected, the Z3 Play comes with support for the existing Moto Mods. Motorola promised the Moto Mods will be supported by three generation of Z series models. The Z3 Play is the third-gen model and maybe the last that will support the existing Moto Mods. Motorola Moto Z3 Play

The Moto Z3 Play comes with a flagship design, wearing a glass body wrapped around the aircraft-grade aluminium fuselage. The glass is the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 both at the front and rear and the device comes as a lightweight phone. This will ensure the Moto mods don’t end up making it too bulky. The device sports a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080p and the 18:9 aspect ratio. This gives the display up to 13% more screen area and more pixels than its predecessors. The trimmed bezels mean the fingerprint sensor has to find a new home and Motorola moved it to the right side, just beneath the volume rocker since it can’t be moved to the back because of the Moto Mods. The design looks quite ergonomic and is easy to access. Motorola also left the One Nav solution as a simple gesture-based bar at the bottom of the screen.Moto Z3 Play

The Z3 Play also comes with a new dual camera setup which is a 12MP + 5M combo with the secondary sensor being a depth of field sensor. The camera comes with Google Lens support built in and fun Cinemagraphs. Up at the front, the device packs an 8MP sensor which has a dedicated Portrait mode.

Moto Z3 Play

The Motorola Moto Z3 Play gets its firepower from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor which is an upgrade from the SD 626 found on the Z2 Play. The processor ensures the new model is 30% faster than its predecessor. The phone also comes with Cat12 LTE support at 700mbps. The processor is paired with 4GB of RAM and there is a 32GB and 64GB internal storage which is expandable. Keeping the lights on is a 3000mAh battery. Motorola also threw in some new moto mods including an Alexa smart speaker and the Print Polaroid mod, which lets you print photos straight from your phone on the go. These new mods can be picked up separately but the device comes with a 2000mAh-capacity battery mod bundled with each purchase. moto z3 play pictures

The device comes with a retail price of $499 which is quite pricey for an SD 636 phone but that could be as a result of the battery mod. Even if you are striking this out of your list because of the pricing, you may want to take a closer look at the device before doing that. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Concept Renders Showcases Phone’s Design

Samsung, which launched its flagship smartphones Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ earlier this year, is currently gearing up to launch another flagship smartphone in the coming months — Galaxy Note 9.

Now, concept renders and a 360-degree concept video of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has surfaced online, which gives us a look at what the smartphone’s design could be like.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Render

The images suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 won’t have a major difference in terms of design compared to its S-series siblings. The front side of the phone will be dominated by the Infinity Display, with thin bezels on the top and bottom.

The volume rocker, as well as the power button, has been placed on the left side, similar to its predecessor. Towards the right, there’s the dedicated Bixby button. The company has also decided to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack, which sits beside the USB Type-C port on the bottom.

On the back, one of the major change is the placement of the fingerprint scanner. According to these renders, the fingerprint sensor has now been moved below the camera module, which should make it more convenient to use.

The presence of fingerprint sensor on the back panel means that the phone won’t have an under-display fingerprint sensor, as reported earlier. The phone is said to be thicker at 8.8mm compared to the 8.6mm waistline of its predecessor.

According to the reports, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will come with a 6.3-inch display having QHD+ screen resolution and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone will be powered by the latest and Samsung Exynos 9810 or upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, depending on the region.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Render

Earlier reports have indicated that the phone will pack 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB storage option. The flagship is also expected to come with an upgraded camera system, though we believe that the phone will continue to offer the same dual-aperture primary camera, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S9+.

In the software department, the device is expected to come with a redesigned interface from Samsung, which is dubbed as Crown UX and will be based on Android Oreo operating system out of the box. Further, the phone is also expected to come powered by a larger battery rated at 3,850mAh.

OPPO Find X Fresh Teaser Suggests Arrival of 5x Optical Zoom Periscope Dual Camera or 3D Facial Recognition

OPPO will be debuting the Find X phone on June 19. Until then, the company will continue to release teasers on the features of the smartphone. A fresh teaser that the Chinese manufacturer has added on its Weibo account reveals the Find X will be either equipped with a periscope camera that offers 5x optical zoom or it may feature the advanced 3D structured light module for 3D facial scanning.

The Weibo post that accompanies the following poster reads “Galileo looked at the sky, and the vast universe was unlocked” and the text on the image reads similar thing, “Focus on the sky and the universe to unlock it.” Also, the poster shows a man viewing the sky by using a telescope.

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017, Oppo had showcased how it could achieve 5x optical zoom by using a dual camera setup that includes a OIS enabled telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens. The setup also features a prism for diverting light through a periscope. The refraction of light lets the camera to zoom up to 5 times on far away objects without using large-sized lenses. Apart from the hardware, the software also plays a vital role in stitching the image data captured by both the sensors.

The main function of a telescope is to zoom into the sky for getting a clear view of the planets and other heavenly bodies. It appears that the new teaser of the Find X shows a man using a telescope suggests that the smartphone could be arriving with a 5x optical zoom enabled dual camera setup.

The other thing that can be deduced from the teaser image is the arrival of 3D facial recognition feature on Oppo Find X. The word “unlock” in the Weibo post hints that the Find X may offer an innovative way to unlock the phone.

The Chinese manufacturer had showcased its 3D structured light technology through a press event in the previous month. Hence, it is speculated that the new teaser could be suggesting 3D facial unlock feature. Interestingly, one of the recent leaks have claimed that the Oppo Find X supports 5x optical zoom and 3D facial scanning.

Vivo NEX to Offer Highest Screen Space Without Notch, Reveals Official Teaser

Vivo has recently confirmed through an official teaser that the Vivo NEX flagship phone would be equipped with a pop-up selfie camera. Today, the company has released to showcase the amazing display of the phone that offers a huge screen space.

Most of the smartphone makers including Vivo have been launching notch enabled smartphones in a bid to provide users with ample screen space. It seems that Vivo is all set to start a new trend of notch-less display that offers a very high screen-to-body ratio. Here is the first official teaser of Vivo NEX that shows its marvelous display.

As it can be seen in the official poster, the display of the phone is surrounded by super-slim bezels on three sides. The bottom side of the NEX’s display is slightly thick. Rumors have that the Vivo NEX will be coming with a massive display of 6.59 inches.

Like the Vivo APEX concept phone, the NEX smartphone is expected to deliver a screen-to-body ratio of around 91 percent. One of the ways through which Vivo has manage to offer user with a such large screen space by removing the selfie camera from the top bezel. This has allowed the company to significantly reduce the size of the top bezel. The front camera is now hidden in at the top edge of the phone. It can pop-up on its own when a user wants to activate it through the camera app to capture a selfie shot. The Vivo NEX is also expected to feature half-screen fingerprint scanner that will allow users to unlock the phone by touching the finger on any area on the lower half of the screen.

Vivo seems to be on a drive to consolidate its grip on the mid-range market with the impending release of three more models. The models have just been certified by TENAA in China.

Vivo V1801A0
Vivo V1801A0

The models are identified with the model numbers Vivo V1732A, V1732T and V1801A0. The Vivo V1801A0 looks like a higher model than the other two. It comes with a dual rear camera setup and is believed to be the upcoming Vivo V9.  The device is listed with a 6.26-inch TFT display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080p. The listing reveals the presence of a processor with CPU clocked at 2GHz which is likely the Helio P60 chip. The RAM is 3 GB, while the internal storage is 64 GB. There is only one camera on the back that is 8 MP (but reaches 13 MP with software enhancements), while the selfie cam is 5 MP. Geekbench Listing Confirms Vivo Nex S Is The Flagship

Vivo is expected to launch three variants of its bezel-less and notch-less phone – the Vivo NEX. The three models are the NEX, NEX S, and NEX A. An earlier report said the Vivo NEX S will come with a Snapdragon 710 but a Geekbench listing has disproved it.

The Vivo NEX S was seen on Geekbench today and the benchmarking site revealed that the phone will come with a Snapdragon 845 processor and not the Snapdragon 710. It will also have 8GB of RAM. While storage isn’t mentioned, we presume it will be 256GB.

Vivo NEX S Geekbench

Geekbench also revealed the device runs Android 8.1 Oreo. The Vivo NEX S scored 2419 points in the single-core test and 9085 points in the multi-core test.

The Vivo NEX is the launch name for the Vivo APEX that was revealed earlier this year. Vivo has provided no explanation for why it changed the name. Nevertheless, it is nice to see Vivo is releasing a proper flagship this year. Last year, it skipped the Snapdragon 835 and didn’t release the Xplay7.

The disappointment of not having a design that redefines bezel-less phones is eroded when we look at the prices it is pegged at. Pricing starts from 1299 Yuan ($202) for the 6GB + 64GB version and goes up to 1799 Yuan ($281) for the 6GB + 128GB edition. Thi is definitely an amazing one for such a device.
