Notably, the most eye-catching feature of the product was the HiSilicon chip developed by Huawei. Now, LeEco has officially released the X Series portable smart projector. The LeEco X Series projector is equipped with a custom Huawei HiSilicon chip, supports automatic focus, intelligent obstacle avoidance, AI intelligent voice, and runs the Letv OS custom system.

Unfortunately, the resolution of the mentioned projector was not stated in the announcement. However, previous leaks suggested that it would support 4K + HDR.

Pricing and Availability

The 500CVIA lumen performance version of the LeEco X Series Portable Smart Projector is priced at 2,199 yuan and will be available in September. The 450CVIA lumen entertainment version is priced at 1,899 yuan and will be available in October.

LeEco, a Chinese consumer electronics brand has launched its all-new LeEco Super TV S85 in China. The Super TV S85 is a limited edition product that commemorates the 10th anniversary of LeEco’s foray into the television market.

This TV model features an exclusive theme skin that draws inspiration from the highly acclaimed drama, The Legend of Zhen Huan. Additionally, fans of the show will be delighted to receive a specially designed Huan Huan pillow with their purchase of this television.

As for its technical specifications, this 85-inch television boasts an impressive 4K display, complete with a star-style partition backlight capable of controlling up to 120 zones of up to 1000 nits brightness. The TV has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and supports HDR10, HLG, and up to 92% DCI P3 wide color gamut.

LeEco S1 Pro is the latest iPhone clone to go official in China. This one looks like the iPhone 14 Pro from all angles. The display has a pill-shaped cutout at the top-centre position. The LeEco S1 Pro has a 6.5-inch LCD panel that offers an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The exact version of the Android OS is not known yet. However, the device comes with support for Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) in the absence of Google Mobile Services (GMS) in China. There is a 5,000mAh battery that supports 10W charging. On the front, it features a 5-megapixel camera, whereas its back panel has a 13-megapixel main camera. There is no information on the device’s auxiliary cameras. It has a thickness of 9.5mm and weighs around 200 grams.

LeEco has just launched a new smartphone in the Chinese market. The company has just announced the new Y1 Pro+ model, which is an entry level handset that comes at a very lucrative price point. So let’s have a look.

The Chinese consumer electronics maker has announced the Y1 Pro+ device that features a design that looks heavily inspired by the recently released Apple iPhone 14. LeEco has just released a new product in China. The new device in question is the Electric Water Heater S01, which, as the name suggests, is a fast thermal electric water heater.

The Chinese consumer electronics maker just launched the Electric Water Heater S01 that sports a large LED display. Furthermore, it has a capacity of 25 liters and has a 5000W fast heating function. The LeEco Electric Water Heater S01 has a thickness of 290mm, which is smaller than conventional water heaters that have are usually 100mm larger. In other words, it has a more compact design and form factor.

As per official claims, this water heater can even be opened and washed as well. Its upper and lower regions have double layered heating pipes that enable it to have a continuous supply of water. Notably, the electric water heater also has three modes, including warm water mode, summer bath mode, and winter bath mode. Users can cycle between these different modes with just a single button. One of its high lighting features is the antibacterial mode, which makes the water safer for the users.

At the moment, the product is currently in the Chinese market for a price of 1,169 Yuan (roughly 185 US Dollars) and is currently available on LeTV Mall. With the launch of the new Electric Water Heater S01, the brand is expanding its consumer electronics product portfolio in its home market.

Earlier this year, in the month of May, announced the return of LeTV Smart Ecology for its products, including Smart TVs and smartphones in the market. While the company hasn’t launched a new device, it has now shared live images of a smartphone.

The company has shared live images of an unnamed smartphone on its official Weibo account, without revealing any details related to the device.

The image shows that the smartphone features a waterdrop notch on top of the screen for housing the front-facing camera sensor. The chin below the display panel is a bit thicker, indicating that the phone’s design isn’t new and it may have been designed sometime back.

On the backside, the phone carries LeTV branding towards the bottom and at the top-center position, there’s a circular camera module, another hint regarding the phone’s design being made a couple of years back.

A smartphone from the company, named LeTV L5 has been spotted on TENAA, indicating that the device could soon be officially launched in China. The listing reveals that it features a 6.528-inch HD+ display offering a screen resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels.

It’s likely to come in two memory variants — 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM with 256GB of internal storage. The triple-camera setup on the back consists of a 48-megapixel primary sensor and two 2-megapixel sensors. On the front side, it features an 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The listing hints that the smartphone is running the Android 9 operating system out-of-the-box and is powered by a 4,900mAh battery. More details about the phone’s specifications remain a mystery. As of now, the company has not yet announced a launch date but given that it has passed TENAA certification, the smartphone could get launched soon in China.

Earlier this week, LeEco launched the LE-DY30 power bank. This power bank houses a large 30,000mAh battery pack that is rated to power home appliances through its 220V AC output.

On 18th May 2021, the Chinese consumer electronics maker announced more than 60 new products. This includes, the LeTV Super TV M65, LeTV Super TV GS series, LeTV Gaming Monitor 2Q, and other smart wearable products like smartwatches and even power banks and smart door locks. While the new TVs were the highlighting products of the launch conference, the company also launched two new power bank models, namely the LE-DY20 and LE-DY30.

The LE-DY20 power bank features a 20,000 battery capacity and serves a function similar to a charge a smartphone like a regular power bank. On the other hand, the LE-DY30 sports a total capacity of 30,000mAh battery pack. Now, it seems that LeEco is making a comeback. The company has shared a new product launch invitation for the LeTV Smart Ecological Conference held on 18th May. Based on the invitation, the company seems to be gearing up to launch new Smart TVs in the market.

The company’s invitation reads “I’m back!” in large and bold characters, exerting confidence about its comeback in the market. It also shows a human profile filled with text of various productions but the highlighted one reads “LeTV Super TV.” It could also hint at the comeback of the brand’s founder Yueting Jia to take charge.

LeEco’s core product offering has been TV and the company was earlier called LeTV. It remains to be seen what the upcoming lineup from the company offers to retake its position in the market. Along with the TV, the invitation also hints at LeTV Super Phone, LeTV TV, Anti-Wear Headset, Portable Watch, and Game Controller, among others.

The company has also mentioned products in other categories as well, including Bluetooth Speakers, Smartwatches, Door Locks, Routers, Bicycles, etc. While it doesn’t make sense to launch all these products at once, the company could launch several devices at the upcoming event given that it’s an event for “smart ecological” products.

Electric-vehicle maker, Faraday Future will soon become a publicly-traded company when its merger with Property Solutions Acquisition Corp scales through all regulatory issues and both parties agree on terms. The net worth of the combined new entity is estimated to be around $3.4 billion, and Faraday now joins the group of electric vehicle companies that have been involved in a merger or acquisition, as they shore up their potentials for greater profit-making.

Faraday Future may still be far from the heavy hitters in the industry like Tesla, but it is indeed growing at an explosive pace, drawing attention from investors and automakers who are rushing to tap the initial public offering (IPO).

Other prominent players in the EV sector like Fisker Inc and Nikola Corp had also gone public through mergers using the special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) model in 2020.

In a statement on Thursday, Faraday and Property Solutions said that the deal is supported by a private investment of $775 million, and is expected to yield for Faraday Future about $1 billion in gross proceeds.

Some inside sources say that Chinese automaker Geely is the anchor investor in the private placement. In addition, Faraday plans to set up a base in China and interface with Geely for contract manufacturing services.

SPACs have been a very popular model for companies going public in recent times, partly because of little regulatory scrutiny and greater certainty about valuation, unlike a conventional IPO.

The SPAC, Property Solutions is a shell company tasked with raising money through the IPO within two years. In 2020, Property Solutions raised about $200 million in its own IPO.

The combined company is expected to be listed on NASDAQ with the ticker “FFIE”, according to the joint statement by both companies.

This investment is a major boost for Faraday Future which was founded by former LeEco boss Jia Yueting. The investment led to the eventual collapse of the once boisterous LeEco empire and left Jia filing for bankruptcy in China.

LeEco, the Chinese company which dared to take on the likes of Netflix and Tesla and called Apple as “outdated” at the same time, was making quite a progress. But suddenly, the world of LeEco, earlier known as LeTV, crumbled as the company faced a number of setbacks. It was growing too fast without a solid financial foundation.

The company is now facing a number of lawsuits in its home country from various vendors, although the same has been going on for years now. In the latest development, Jingdong Judicial Auction listed 1,354 patents held by LeTV Information Technology (Beijing) Co. for judicial auction.

The listing had a starting price of 136,000 yuan (approximately $19,240) and the current bid for the trademarks has reached 113 million yuan. It began the bidding process on 29th June at 10:00 AM local time and the process was closed today, i.e. on 30th June at 10:00 AM local time.

The process seems to have attracted more than 90,000 people but only 105 signed up for the bidding. This first auction of the company’s assets and IP includes trademarks like “LeTV TV” and “LeTV Super TV” among others.

The auction process for the trademarks was based on the increased-price method where a reserved price is set and then each bid increases the price by at least 500 yuan (~$71). The competition among the bidders is fierce given that most bids were only a minute apart and the bid has been increased by 800 times compared to the reserved price.

Earlier this month, the auction of around 22.1 million shares of LeEco held by Jia Yueting, the company’s founder, took place on 13th June and 14th June. Despite over 14,000 people interested, none of them participated in the bidding process.

The auction price of the share was decided based on the average closing price of 20 trading days before the trading was suspended. With the price of 2.51 yuan (~$0.36) per share, the total comes down to 55.47 million yuan.

It’s noteworthy that the auction price almost doubles the price of the share from the 1.69 yuan per share cost on the last trading day before LeTV’s suspension. The company entered the delisting consolidation period on 5th June and thus, the LETV stock trading was suspended in China. By the end of 12th June, the company’s share price fell below 0.9 yuan (~$0.13) per share, bringing down the market value to 3.59 billion yuan.

LeEco (LeTV) hasn’t released a new phone in over a year due to the financial mess that resulted in the company’s mobile arm “packing up business”. However, it appears the mobile phone business hasn’t shut down completely as LeEco has released a new version of its Emotion UI (EUI) for some of its smartphones.

Since the financial brouhaha in 2016, LeEco has not stopped pushing out updates to some of its phones including its 2016 flagship -the Le Max 2 and the mid-range Le 2. The latest update started hitting devices on the 8th of August and comes as EUI 6.0.

The update is available to the aforementioned phones including some other unmentioned models. One of the main features the update brings to these devices is face unlock, a feature that became mainstream starting last year. The update is also said to optimize system performance for an overall smoother experience. Sadly, there is no info as to if the new update also comes with a new version of Android.

The Le Max 2 is a Snapdragon 820-powered smartphone with a 5.7” QHD display. It has up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. It also has a single 21MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. It doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack but there is a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter shipped with the phone. Underneath is its metal body is a 3100mAh battery.

As at the morning of Wednesday, August 15, LeTV‘s (LeEco) stock price was on the downward spiral and the company was on the verge of being delisted from China’s stock market. But in a dramatic twist, investors adopted a bullish outlook as the share price went up to 2.39 yuan while the daily limit rose to 14.90%. Although the rice later reduced but still traded at around 2.3 yuan and closed at 2.17 yuan.

The reason for this surge in LeEco’s shares may be connected to the press release on Tuesday by Evergrande Health Industry Group Ltd, that U.S-based Faraday Future (FF) has set up its operational headquarters in China. Evergrande owns a 45% stake in U.S.-based Faraday Future (FF) and it plans to build five R&D and production bases across the country in the next decade. The company also hinted that mass production of the FF91 will begin in 2019 in the U.S plant. This is no doubt, a good news since Faraday Future is owned by Chinese entrepreneur Jia Yueting, whose erstwhile conglomerate LeEco is in a messy financial situation occasioned by rapid expansion in a bid to overtake Tesla.

However, LeTV has issued a statement saying that the surge in its share price was noticed but the company can’t pinpoint the reason for it. We know better. Although Jia Yueting has no stake in LeTV anymore, the success of the FF electric car will also lead to Jia Yueting fulfilling his financial obligations to companies he is indebted to, one of which is LeTV. Perhaps, this is a glimmer of hope for ailing LeEco.

In China, things work like this: when you are in financial troubles and you are unable to pay your debts, you get banned from even using public transport. That is what just happened to Jia Yueting, the former CEO of LeEco. Jia Yueting has just been subjected to significant restrictions in his home country: he has been banned from air travel and he has also been restricted from taking long-distance public transport. These restrictions from luxury air and rail travel will last for one year. They come as Jia Yueting has been added to Credit China’s list of individuals restricted from public transport, which includes 169 individuals.

This list contains the names of people who haven’t paid taxes, smoked on trains despite being forbidden, or disrupted flights. Even his sister Jia Yuefang has been added to the list for the same issues.

LeEco was a great smartphone manufacturer, but its economic conditions started getting bad from 2016. The company has then tried to expand outside of China (in the U.S.), but it was a bad decision and it only made the situation worse than it was. Due to financial troubles, Jia Yueting had to resign from his CEO position in order to become LeEco’s chairman in July 2017, but Beijing court froze its assets in August and he had to leave China.

He then moved to the U.S. to focus on his electric car manufacturer, Faraday Future. A few months ago Jia Yueting’s name was added to a government blacklist for credit defaulters, then he was asked to go back to his home country and pay the company’s debts. Now, the company risks losing its TV division if Jia Yueting does not pay his debts. The last LeEco’s phone was LeEco Pro 3 AI and it was announced in April 2017.

Last week, ZTE’s Nubia joined the smart home race with its first product a smart door lock. Today, another big player has joined the race and it is none other than Lenovo.

Lenovo had a spring product launch event today in Beijing where it announced its entry into the smart home market. It then revealed that its smart home arm will be called……Lecoo.

Yes, Lenovo’s smart home products will launch under the Lecoo brand which is almost identical to LeEco, the smartphone brand. The name is actually pronounced “lay-ku” and as at today, there are four products under the brand.

There is the Lecoo Smart Router S1, the Lecoo Baby Monitor A1, the LeCoo Smart Camera R1, and the Lecoo Smart Camera S1.

Smart Router S1

The Leeco Smart Router has a rose gold and white finish and is one of the most attractive routers we have seen. It has four Skyworks signal antennas, supports dual-band WiFi, and offers up to 1200Mbps speeds.

There is a dual-core processor under its exterior, 512MB RAM, and 32MB of storage. It has a USB 3.0 port for adding more storage and also has a gigabit ethernet port. The Smart Router S1 is priced at ¥499 (~$80).

Lecoo Baby Monitor A1

The Lecoo baby Monitor isn’t just an extra eye to watch over your kid(s) but also has some cool features. It can identify certain expressions of a child as well as special moments and proceeds to record them. These short clips and images can be accessed later and shared with family and friends.

The baby monitor can rotate 360° horizontally and 100° vertically. It can be mounted on a wall or placed on a surface. It records in 1080p, has night vision, and voice recognition. There is a 4,000mAh built-in battery and a USB-C port for charging.

Lenovo says there is unlimited cloud storage available for users. The baby monitor is priced at ¥699 (~$111).

Lecoo Smart Camera S1 and R1

Both cameras have a similar design and functionality but the S1 is smaller than the R1. They both record videos with the H.265 encoding and can be paired with up to three other cameras which can all be viewed simultaneously on the app.

When in privacy mode, the movable part of the camera can be rotated downward to hide the lens in the shaft. You can wake it up with the button on the device or via the app.

Both have microSD card support, a micro-USB port, and 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi support. Apart from the difference in size, the only other difference we noticed is that the smaller version doesn’t support motion tracking.

The Lecoo Smart Camera R1 is priced at ¥299 (~$48) and the S1 is priced at ¥199 (~$32).

LeEco has been on the downward spiral for the past few years after its botched mission to enter the U.S and investment in Faraday Future. Since the financial crisis, LeEco has only released the Le Pro 3 AI edition which was unveiled in the second quarter of last year. Such was the hunger for a new model by fans that the presale hit 4.8 million in just 24 hours back then. LeEco models still sell like hot cake especially as they are offered at rock-bottom prices. Now, it seems LeEco is planning to release a new model which would adopt a full-screen 18:9 design.

The renders of the LeEco full-screen model was recently spotted on Weibo with a full-screen design and it is said to go by the name Le X. Apart from utilizing a full-screen design with an 18:9 aspect ratio, the device also comes with curved edges at the front and back. The screen to body ratio is also very high.

Another notable feature of the model is the quad camera setup it seems to have. The LeEco Le X render shows a dual camera at the front and a similar dual camera setup at the rear. The rear cameras are stacked in a vertical direction with the LED flash sitting at the side. We can’t verify the authenticity of these renders neither is the Le X’s specification known as of this moment. It sure looks like a device worth looking out for. LeEco announced a deal that saw it become the largest shareholder in fellow Chinese smartphone maker Coolpad in 2016. The internet cum smartphone company held a 28.90% stake in Coolpad until recently. It is no longer news that LeEco is facing a serious cash crunch that has crippled the once bubbling smartphone maker. LeEco’s shares in Coolpad has become one of the latest casualty of its financial situation as it has announced the sale of 17.83% of its 28.90% shares in Coolpad. Thus, LeEco now has only about 10.95% shares in Coolpad and as a result, is no longer the highest shareholder in Coolpad.

LeEco’s rise to becoming the highest shareholder in Coolpad isn’t a one-off achievement. The company first invested 2.74 billion HK Dollars (around US$353 million) in June 2015 making it the second largest shareholder with an 18% shares. In June 2016, LeEco made another investment of $135 million USD which gave it an additional 11% shares and thus making it the largest shareholder. Both firms had even started releasing jointly designed smartphones under the Cool 1 series before LeEco slipped into financial troubles.

Now, LeEco has traded off 17.83% of its shares this January for HK $ 808 million (about 670 million yuan / ~ $103 Million USD). This is nowhere near the amount the company paid in 2015 to acquire its first 18% stake in the company. However, Coolpad cannot be said to have achieved tremendous progress since 2015 to date. Besides, the deal could be to repay some of its huge debt burdens. LeEco is reportedly in need of emergency cash and so, had to sell some of its stakes in Cooldpad despite making a significant loss in the process. Besides, the deal has to be based on Coolpad’s present market value which is also on the decrease.

This isn’t good news for those hoping to see LeEco rebound from its present sorry state. We do hope the spate of sales of assets would not continue.

As LeEco is going through a financial crisis for more than a year, it hasn’t released a major software update for many of its smartphones since quite some time. However, a senior member at XDA Forums was able to find an EMUI 6.0 Alpha ROM based on Android 7.0 Nougat for the LeEco Le Max 2.

The Le Max 2 smartphone was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS in May 2016. The EUI 6.0 Alpha ROM or the smartphone is now openly available on the forum site. The Alpha version ROM is an under-development product that contains a number of bugs. It is available for X820, X821, X822 and X829 models of the Le Max 2.

Flashing a ROM manually is not a very easy process and it avoid the warranty of the device. In order to flash the ROM, Le Max 2 users are required to root it by using Magisk. Some of the known bugs of the EUI 6.0 Alpha ROM are associated with fingerprint and biometric sensors. Some users who tried the ROM have claimed that they have encountered issues while installing APKs from USB sources.

The official Nougat update for Le Max 2 was expected to arrive in summer of 2017 when a leaked image had revealed that the LeEco is testing EUI 6.0.28 flavored Android 7.1 Nougat for it as well as other smartphones. However, since then there is no trace of the official Android update for any of the LeEco phones. Hence, the only way to try the latest Android version on LeEco handsets is to make use of third-party ROMs.

The Le Max 2 features a 5.7-inch QHD display and is driven by Snapdragon 820 chipset. It comes in 4 GB and 6 GB RAM options and 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB storage models. It has a rear camera of 21-megapixel and a frontal shooter of 8-megapixel. It houses a 3,500mAh battery. The last phone released by LeEco is the Le Pro 2 AI Edition. It was released in April 2017.

Last week, it was reported that the Chinese Securities Regulatory Commission asked LeEco’s founder Jia Yueting, to return to China before December 31. Today is 2nd of January, and Mr. Yueting hasn’t returned to Asia.

In an official response to the order via his Weibo account, Jia Yueting said he needs to remain in the US to oversee his electric car startup, the Faraday Future. In his place, he has sent his brother Jia Yuemin, and wife Gan Wei home to sort out matters.

The order to return to China was due to failure of Mr. Yueting and his sister to provide loans promised to Leshi Internet Information and Tech. Co.. Leshi and its sister company LeEco are in debts and have been unable to pay its suppliers and loans.

In the post, Jia apologized for the debts and said he is working with the company to repay. He added that his brother has met with regulators on December 29 to also discuss the mater. LeEco‘s former CEO and Chairman Jia Yueting is unarguably an innovative entrepreneur who was an inspiration to many during the hay days of the tech guru. All that seems to be in the past presently as Jia Yueting has since plunged his once bubbling company into financial troubles. The tech mogul has been on the run as authorities in China has ordered him to return back to the country before the end of this year and he was recently blacklisted as a debt defaulter in China. While the dust generated by this unsavoury news is yet to settle down, another report out of China indicates that a Beijing court has seized Mr Yuetings assets.

According to a statement on its website, the Beijing-based First intermediate People’s Court seized more than 1.3 million yuan ($200,000) in bank deposits. The court is also eyeing Jia’s shares in publicly listed Leshi Internet Information & Technology Corp. as well as two Beijing properties targeted in previous cases. No further details were disclosed on the seized properties. The court said it took action after agreeing to enforce a petition from a securities firm in Fujian in a bid to recover more than 200 million yuan it claimed Jia owed.

LeEco was hit with a cash crunch occasioned by Jia Yueting’s decision to expand aggressively its smartphone business into new markets and even veering into the automobile industry with investment in U.S electric car maker Faraday Future. That investment is yet to yield fruits but Jia is said to have disclosed during a staff meeting earlier this month that Faraday had managed to raise more than $1 billion in Series A financing, without naming his investors. Just when we thought LeEco’s  collapse was all done and dusted, the company has made a remarkable comeback into the tech gadget scene with the launch of a number of smart digital TVs in China. The company seems to have charted a new course for itself under a new management in the absence of founder Jia Yueting. But LeEco seems to be taking things slowly by  reducing its business lines. For now, the smartphone business seems to be on a hiatus as no new model has been added in recent times. Instead, the once sprawling tech giant has shifted its focus to Smart TVs, apparently to leverage on its internet services business.

Today, the ailing tech giant launched several smart TVs under two new lines dubbed Lean and New series. The two series are made up of a total of 10 new models of varying sizes ranging from 40 – 65 inches. The new Smart TV series is said to built with the focus on the family and provides a completely open platform with a host of internet services available to users. 

The LeTV Lean series is made of the following models; X40L / X43L / X50L / X55L / X65L with the price starting at 1899 yuan (~$290). On the other hand, the New series is comprised of the following models; X40N / X43N / X50N / X55N / X65N starting at 2099 yuan (~$320). The New series is obviously the high-end series and the price goes as high as 5799 Yuan (~$885) for the top-end model. 

The models differ slightly in their configuration but in terms of image quality, the new generation products still retain Leco’s super TV’s unique color management engine. Most of the products support HDR technology. The Smart TVs utilises a unique SDR to HDR processing technology which converts SDR contents into HDR display effects thereby enhancing the user’s viewing experience. Onboard the smart TV series is the Mstar quad-core processor while the entire product range comes with 16G flash memory. Providing the interface is LeEco’s custom EUI 6.5 operating system bringing with it lots of new features to the Smart TVs.

LeEco founder Jia Yueting has been ordered by the Chinese Securities Regulatory Commission to return to China before December 31. This is one of the many calls made by the regulator to the Chinese billionaire to come back home. He is said to be in the United States taking care of his electric car venture, Faraday Future, which is another company struggling with operations. 

Earlier this year, Jia resigned from all of his positions in Leshi Internet Information & Technology Corp. But at the time of his resignation, he left LeEco in a very bad position mounted by debts. He is now being called by the regulator to fulfill on his promise made back in 2015 to provide interest-free loans to Leshi with the proceeds from the sale of his shares in the company. It is worth mentioning that he said in a letter back in November that he won’t be able to fulfil his promise of financial support to a LeEco subsidiary.

The regulator ordered Jia in an official statement yesterday, asking him to immediately return ‘home’ (China) and handle the situation. The statement further adds that ‘the debt has to be paid back’ and it has caused ‘extremely adverse social impact’.

The situation doesn’t look good for Jia right now. With mounting debts and Faraday Future struggling, it remains to be seen whether he will pay heed to the call from the Chinese regulator this time.

LeEco founder and former CEO Jia Yueting wanted his company to rival with major U.S. companies like Apple, Netflix, Tesla and so on in various markets like smartphones, TV, cars and media content. However, LeEco is currently facing its worst cash crunching situation. On Monday, the company suffered another blow when the billionaire founder was added to the blacklist of debt defaulters in China.

According to Chinese media, Yueting was blacklisted as a debt defaulter after a Beijing court confirmed that he has failed to settle the debt of around $72 million to Ping An Securities Group, an investment company that belongs to China’s second-largest insurer.

LeEco founder’s name is now listed among other debt defaulters on shixin.court.gov.cn and his name is easily searchable by anyone. In 2013, China’s Supreme Court had publicly revealed the blacklist in order to name and shame debt defaulters. LeShi Holding and LeShi Yidong, the two subsidiaries of LeEco are also included in the list.

Debt defaulters are not allowed to travel by airplane or use first-class service on bullet trains. They are banned from using other luxuries such as premium hotels and golf courses. Such people are not allowed to invest in properties and their children are barred from studying at private schools.

The above rules are only applicable in China. It is unclear whether how these rules will affect Yueting who has been living in the U.S. since the past few months. Also, since March this year, he is yet to make a public appearance in China.

Earlier this year, Yueting resigned from his post as chairman of LeShi Internet Information and Technology so that he could concentrate on the auto unit of LeEco. Yueting had a net worth of $6 billion two years ago, but it has reportedly fallen to $3.8 billion in March this year. The future seems bleak for his company that has attained unsustainable debt in a bid to expand its business in international markets at a very fast pace

LeEco’s financial woes are still far from over, despite efforts to salvage the once bubbling tech giant. A recent rumour from the real estate circle in China alleges that the company has put up its headquarters building in China for sale. According to local media are reports, the building is slammed with a price tag of RMB 1.4 billion ($211 million).

The building which used to be a beehive of activities during LeEco’s hay days covers an expansive 20,000 square metres area. The once sprawling headquarters is being sold apparently to meet up with some of its debt. LeEco is estimated to have a debt burden of up to 20 billion Yuan ($3 billion).

This is yet another reminder that LeEco is plunging deeper and deeper into financial troubles. In recent months, a number of LEco’s assets and those of its founder Jia Yueting had been frozen by court order. The building in question is even said to have been mortgaged by Leshi Holdings, one of LeEco’s subsidiaries, to seek for a loan of RMB 1.4 billion through a third-party company, and the pledge is still in effect. Thus, it may be difficult to find a buyer for the property very soon.

You also get a 4070mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support via a USB Type-C port. The Le Pro 3 doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack but you can be assured of an impressive audio experience with its award winning CDLA USB type-C earphones that are included in the box.

There is a fingerprint scanner on the back, an IR blaster, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, Dolby Atmos Audio, and even FM Radio. The only downside is that it comes with EMUI 5.8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. And since the manufacturer’s financial problem began there has been no software support for its devices.

LeEco popped into the news yesterday as a result of a new box casing initially thought to be that of a bezel-less LeEco smartphone which is in the works. The phone was rumoured to be the Le Max 3 which has been expected for several months now. The photo looks like a truly bezel-less device even though all that was on display was a render. Turns out the device isn’t a bezel-less phone, it isn’t even a smartphone but a power bank LeEco is perhaps working on.

The full poster has now appeared online showing the part where there is an inscription that it is a 10,000mAh battery capacity. The power bank also comes with a two-way fast charge. Apart from these little details, nothing much is known about the LeEco power bank. We don’t even know if it has been produced or how the once buzzing tech giant hopes to sell the gadget in the face of dwindling smartphone sales.

We still expect LeEco to go official with the Le Max 3, though, with a bezel-less full-screen design. The LeMax 3 is expected to sport a 6.3-inch QHD display as well as 6GB of RAM while there will be 128GB storage onboard. Further, the LeEco Le Max 3 will come with a 16MP selfie camera while the dual camera at the rear is said to be a 13MP dual camera. The device will get its power from a 3.700mAh battery. LeEco has been silent for a while now since the launch of the Le Pro 3 AI Edition in the first quarter of 2017. Thus, we can’t say for sure when the phone maker will release a new smartphone or even the power bank.

It remains to be seen if LeEco’s mobile and smart TV arms will rise again. These subsidiaries alongside a number of others have suffered heavy losses. Debts have been left unpaid and assets have been frozen. In the midst of all these negative news, leaks of smartphones that should have been launched have surfaced online. Today, we have images of a prototype LeEco Le X7 smartphone.

The LeEco Le X7 doesn’t have any bells and whistles that will make you wish for it to be released. The design is typical LeEco – bezels, a metal body, and the black bars around the screen to create a pseudo edge-to-edge appearance.

The top bezel has the sensor, earpiece and a front facing camera. There are no visible capacitive buttons on the chin, but if you are familiar with LeEco phones, you’ll know they are there but are just not lit up.

The unit is rose gold and there are antenna lines in the familiar U-design at the top and bottom. The phone looks like it has dual rear cameras but we think the circle at the bottom is a LED flash and not a second camera. The camera setup is a bit raised and below it is LeEco’s signature mirror fingerprint scanner.

The LeEco Le X7 has an IR blaster at the top sitting beside a secondary mic. Volume rocker and power button are positioned on the right. We can’t see the left side and bottom of the phone but they should house the SIM tray slot and USB Type-C port respectively.

One of the images shows the about section of the phone. We see that the model number of the Le X7 is  LEX550. The phone is running EUI 5.8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a July 2016 security level patch. It also reveals the processor as a deca-core chip clocked at 2.3GHz.

The LeEco Le X7 may have gotten attention if it was released last year or at most in the first quarter of this year. But now, it is best left in the company’s museum.

LeEco that appeared like a major competitor to companies like Apple, Tesla and Amazon, has now become a debt-ridden company. Fresh information reveals that the Supreme Court of China has blacklisted two subsidiaries of LeEco, as they have defaulted in clearing payments to their suppliers.

The blacklisting of LeEco’s subsidiaries have brought certain restrictions on company executives, including a ban on traveling by plane in China. The blacklisting clearly reveals the financial crisis LeEco is going through.

The website of Supreme People’s Court has documents that state that Beijing-based Leishi Holding, managed by Jia Yueting and Leishi Yidong, a mobile affiliate of the LeEco group have together failed to clear a debt of $16.38 million. It is interesting to note that the reason behind blacklisting these companies is that they do not want to clear the debt even though they are in a position to do so.

An analyst has claimed that the company is yet to make a decision on whether it will be paying back the debts or investing on expanding its business. An executive from Leishi Holding has said that debt amount is smaller the asset value of the firm. He affirmed that the company is in a position of clearing its debts and is working on getting rid of non-listed assets.

Jia Yueting had earlier stated that its company would be able to rival with American tech titans in various departments like smartphones, smart TVs and electric cars. However, in November last year, Yueting officially confirmed that his firm is in a financial crisis. He realized earlier this year that the company is in a bigger trouble even when an investment of 16.8 billion Yuan from a property tycoon could not help in resolving financial issues.

Yeuting has resigned from the position of Chariman and CEO of LeEco around two months ago. Earlier in this month, it was reported that LeEco has slashed nearly 85 percent of its workforce in the U.S. The official LeEco U.S. has been shut down and the Vizio’s acquisition for $2 billion by LeEco has been cancelled.

Analysts are of the view that the downfall of LeEco happened because it tried to expand too fast in multiple departments. This resulted in finishing its cash flow, which made it debt-ridden. It seems that the future is very bleak for LeEco.

LeEco has been enmeshed in quite a lot of controversies this year most of them as a result of its failed financial fortunes. Apparently, the company still has some steam to respond to some of the controversies and one it did respond to recently is that of its failed acquisition of U.S-based TV manufacturer Vizio.

LeEco first announced its plan to buy the U.S TV maker for $2 billion last summer but in July this year, both companies jointly released a statement calling off the acquisition. Vizio later filed two law suits against the Chinese company. Court documents have now revealed that LeEco is suggesting the Chinese authorities are to blame for the failure of their acquisition deal with Vizio.

The deal with Vizio was aimed to help LeEco gain a strong footing in the U.S market which it officially entered last year. But that deal later did not materialize and we thought it was due to its financial troubles but it LeEco says otherwise. Vizio thinks otherwise, though, claiming LeEco essentially misrepresented its financial status in order to agree on a deal with Vizio and impress its investors. The company also accuses LeEco of attempting to reduce their agreed break-up fee from $100 million to $40 million.  Vizio would have none of that as it believes the deal fell through because of LeEco’s lack of financing so, they want all of the $100 million break-up fees.

In its defense, LeEco claims Vizio knew of the possibility that they could not come up with the financing for the deal. The document also claims that Vizio was aware that the American or Chinese authorities could block the deal. LeEco then claims that the Chinese government blocked the deal due to Beijing’s increasingly stricter approach to currency controls and denial to approve mergers determined not to be ‘strategic’ to China’s long term interests.

LeEco is in the news once again and unfortunately, it is still not about the rebound of the company’s fortunes. Just recently, LeEco’s U.S office complex was photographed by a reported showing lots of empty office spaces with just a few workers left of what started out as a buzzing outfit hoping to make its mark in the lucrative U.S market. Now the U.S division of LeEco has suddenly taken down its official website. The web address www.leeco.com now redirects to the Chinese version and even when the www.leeco.com/us is entered, it displays a page showing the website is temporarily unavailable.

LeEco’s U.S website went online last year when the company launched its first products in the U.S. Specifically, it has been 11 months since that launch which took place in October last year. Since then, the company has been offering up its products like smartphones, TV and a few other services but has been struggling with the sales with the company shedding off some of its liabilities and chose to focus on a much smaller Chinese market with its products and internet services.

The company disclosed that the shutdown was made in order to carry out maintenance on the website and that it would be back online on September 15 which is this coming Friday. However, the shutdown is a reflection of the level of relevance of the website to LeEco. It is unusual for a tech company to shut down its website for a week-long maintenance, especially a sales website. But then, LeEco is all embroiled in financial difficulties and this may likely noyt be unconnected to that. We still do hope the company stages a comeback sometime soon.

It has been 11 months already since LeEco held its first launch event in the U.S, signaling the official debut of the tech giant in the United States. Obviously, the Chinese company was looking to increase its revenue with the foray into the U.S but it soon hit troubled waters financially, as a result of its huge investment in U.S electric car maker Faraday Future. The financial woes recently led to the resignation of CEO Jia Yueting and also, the company has been cutting down its staff strength gradually. 

What we actually weren’t aware of is that LeEco has laid off almost all of its staff strength in the U.S. Engadget’s Richard Lai recently grabbed a couple of photos of Leeco’s U.S office in San Jose, California and it was entirely devoid of activities with much of the offices looking empty. On inquiry, LeEco disclosed that there are only a handful of employees still working for the company in the U.S. LeEco had nearly 325 persons on its payroll in the US before its finances began to dwindle. This has obviously led to the laying off of a large chunk of that number, put at 85% of its U.S workforce. The Chinese company, regarded as the “Netflix of China” because of its prolific video streaming service, now focuses on Chinese speaking customers and that is a small market which its current workforce can handle.  The company also acquired  Yahoo’s office building in Santa Clara where it hoped to site its U.S headquarters. That property is also likely deserted as well.

This latest discovery is yet another indication that the tech company isn’t anywhere near staging a return to its glory days. The company was discovered to have closed its only shop in Russia and not long before that, Jia Yueting threw in the towel as CEO. The company also recently pulled out of a deal to buy VIZIO, one of the largest TV makers in the world, citing a lack of financial resources to seal the deal. Even in China, LeEco has had to close down some of its service centres apparently to cut down operational cost. We certainly do hope that the innovative and once sprawling tech giant makes a comeback to the scene sometime soon.

LeEco hasn’t released a new phone in months due to its financial mess, so its no surprise that its competitors have overtaken it. Nevertheless, some of its older products are still worth picking up and you won’t be hard pressed to find some on sale.

Cafago has the Le S3 for just $133 which seems like an impressive deal seeing as it launched for $249 for the Snapdragon 652-powered 3GB RAM +32GB model in the US. This version is the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM model and it ships from China.

The Le S3 has a 5.5-inch 1080p display. It is powered by the Helio X20 processor which is clocked at 2.3GHz. The device packs a 21MP rear camera and an 8MP front facing camera. Both sensors should more than suffice and produce decent shots.

There is a 3000mAh battery under the metal body with support for Quick Charge 3.0. The Le S3 has dual Sim slots (nano only), a rear mounted fingerprint scanner and a USB type-C port that is also used for audio output since the phone doesn’t have a headphone jack.

Compared to the more recent smartphones, the Le S3 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is old but still in exisitence. So bear in mind that you may be stuck with that version of Android.

LeEco has been in the news in recent months, not for a new product release but for its financial troubles. Today the news is different as a new LeEco phone was seen at the Chinese patent office.

There is nothing spectacular about the device. No specification details were revealed and the design isn’t unusual. The design actually looks like what HTC would churn out.

The back seems to be made of metal. There is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner sitting in the middle. At the top right corner is the rear camera and LED flash. The LeEco phone also has antenna lines at the top and bottom.

The front is plain too. There are moderately sized bezels at the top and bottom and none at the sides. At the top lies the front facing camera and sensor, flanking the earpiece on both sides. On the right hand side of the device is the power button and volume rocker and on the left lies the SIM tray.

The schematics also shows there are two cut-outs for speakers at the base, sitting on opposite sides of a USB Type-C port. At the top, there is an IR blaster and nothing else. This confirms that LeEco isn’t bringing back the audio jack anytime soon.

There is no saying when this device will launch or if it will at all, so we won’t flat out say LeEco is back. Two months ago, we saw a LeEco Cool phone on TENAA and it still hasn’t been released.

Just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse for embattled tech giant LeEco, the company’s financial troubles seem to be getting worse. LeEco has reportedly closed its only store in Russia’s capital Moscow and may be on the verge of exiting Russia entirely. With an eye firmly set on global expansion, LeEco had entered Russia around May last year as its third international market after the successful launch of its services in India and USA.

LeEco planned to invest over USD 100 million in Russia and market its unique vertically-integrated ecosystem to Russian users with an all-new experience delivered through the Internet, smart devices, smart applications, and cloud. But that plan may have hit the rock as a source familiar with the matter claims LeEco may be preparing to leave Russia entirely. According to the source, the move for an early exit is caused by LeEco’s financial troubles which have made the company unable to service the loan it took last year in a bid to expand to newer markets.

LeEco’s financial imbroglio came to the limelight late last year when its CEO Jia Yueting sent an internal memo around hinting that the company was facing a cash crunch. The financial trouble is closely related to LeEco’s investment in U.S-based electric car manufacturing company Faraday for the Faraday Future electric car as well as other investments aimed at divesting into new markets. The expansion drive proved to be too rapid and it is on the verge of crumbling the once thriving business empire. A representative of LeEco has, however, disclosed that the closure of the Moscow store doesn’t mean the company is planning to exit the country but is instead trying to revamp its general business strategy. The company is reportedly developing a new strategy that would help improve the performance of its foreign operations, including its Russian concerns, a company exec had disclosed.

Sales in the Russian market have been far less than LeEo’s expectations.  LeEco’s Russia arm had announced that it was planning to sell one million devices in Russia in 2017, but that isn’t possible anymore. The company only managed to rake in an estimated 19,400 units in sales during the first quarter of 2017 and an estimated 21,000 units in the second quarter. With such abysmal record, sales may not even get up to 100,000 units this year if indeed the company stays in Russia, especially as its major store in Russia’s capital has now been shut down. The company only sold 27,500 units in Q4 2016 so, don’t expect any better record this year. We do hope the company make a come back into the smartphone market sometime soon.
