Xiaomi Mi TV 4A 58-inch variant launched, priced at 2999 yuan (~$433)

Xiaomi has today announced a new Mi TV 4A variant for the Chinese market. The new model comes with a 58-inch display and will retail for a decent 2999 yuan (~$433) price tag, except that you won’t likely get it at that amount outside China.

The Mi TV 4A series is supposed to be an affordable series and was first unveiled in China in March last year. The series was first unveiled in 43-inch, 49-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch models and later on, a cheaper 32-inch model was launched. The 43-inch and 49-inch models feature a 1080p resolution on their displays, while the 55-inch and 65-inch models are the high-end versions both having 4K display resolution a piece. The latest 58-inch model also comes with a 4K HDR screen.

Xiaomi Mi TV 4A 58-inch is powered by a quad-core 64-bit high-performance Amlogic T962 clocked at 1.5GHz while the graphics aspect is powered by a Mali 450 750MHz GPU. The processor is paired with 2GB of RAM. The device also offers up to 8GB of flash memory as against 32GB of eMMC5.1 flash memory on other versions. In addition, the Mi TV 4A 58-inch version comes with support for HDR10, a static contrast ratio of 5000:1, refresh rate of 60Hz, viewing angle of 178 °, and the latest UHD HLG while also supporting the Dolby Vision format. The Mi TV 4A comes in Smart just like Xiaomi’s range of Mi TV, sporting a dual-band WiFi connection, as well as Bluetooth 4.2. The Bluetooth connectivity allows the TV to connect with accessories such as Bluetooth mouse, speakers, keyboard, gaming pad and others.

The smart TV is also equipped with Xiaomi’s PatchWall artificial intelligence system with voice control. The system can intelligently learn the user’s preference based on usage habits. It comes with 3 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports and antenna, AV input to connect the set-top box, S / PDIF and other interfaces.

The Mi TV 4A 58-inch is available in black colour only and is priced at 2999 yuan (~$433) which is pretty reasonable considering the features. The Mi TV 4A model is already on reservation via Mi.com and would go on sale from October 28 in China.

Design

If the design is important for you, we have bad news. All of these devices have a plastic body instead of a glass or metal body that you usually find on mid-rangers and flagships. But Lenovo K9 is almost as beautiful as glass devices thanks to its reflective back which reminds a lot of Honor devices with glass backs. Instead, Asus Zenfone Lite L1 and Xiaomi Redmi 6A have a more anonymous plastic design which is all but attractive.

Display

Given that these devices have a very similar viewing quality as they are low-end IPS panel with HD+ resolution, the only important difference between them is the size. With 5.7 inches, Lenovo K9 has a bigger display than its opponents, and this is important if we think that most of people prefer bigger displays. However, this makes the handset have a lower level of detail due to the lower pixel density, as well as a bigger overall size.

Specs & Software

Lenovo K9 has the most powerful hardware side as it features a midrange processor, while the other twos have an entry-level SoC. Lenovo K9 boasts an octa-core Helio P22 chipset by MediaTek running at a max frequency of 2 GHz. Note that it is only available with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, while its opponents have a more affordable 2/16 GB configuration. Xiaomi Redmi 6A is the only one with a customized UI (MIUI) and should receive more software support in the long term.

Camera

When it comes to the camera department, Lenovo K9 is the most interesting handset as it sports four cameras: two on the back and two on the front with a front-facing LED flash. These cameras allow capturing depth info in a more accurate way in order to deliver a better bokeh effect. On the other hand, Asus Zenfone Lite L1 has a brighter aperture for the rear camera and this should allow capturing more light for better shots in low light conditions. But overall, Lenovo K9 wins.

Battery

We got no much to say about the batteries as they all feature the same capacity: 3000 mAh. And given that Zenfone Lite L1 and Lenovo K9 are still not in the market, we can not test the battery life personally. So it is a draw for now.

Price

Asus Zenfone Lite L1 just debuted in India with a price tag of about €80, Xiaomi Redmi 6A can be found at around €90 and Lenovo K9 carries a price tag of about €100. I would personally spend those €20 more to grab a unit of Lenovo K9, the winner of this comparison.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 black and blue models leaked sporting a rear fingerprint sensor

Xiaomi has been unusually pretty generous with leaked renders and live photos of the upcoming Mi Mix 3 flagship that will be launched on October 25. We recently saw a press render and live shot of the Mix 3 showing a 24MP dual selfie camera would hold swap at the front. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has reportedly posted a photo of the Mi Mix 3 in what seems to be an accidental post because it was deleted not too long after.

The pictures are those of a Black and Blue colour variant of the Mi Mix 3 prototypes and interestingly, they both sport a rear fingerprint sensor. This is against the tide of expectations of an in-display fingerprint sensor onboard the device. This brings out the possibility of the Mix 3 coming in more than one variants. While there will be an in-display fingerprint variant, there could also be a model with a rear fingerprint sensor just like the Mi 8, Mi 8 screen fingerprint edition and others. Xiaomi is also reportedly working on a special arts edition in conjunction with the British Museum.

In addition, the two leaked models seem to have a glass back panel which means it may support wireless charging. There is also a USB Type-C, not that we expected anything less.

Xiaomi MIJIA Walkie Talkie 1S with a lighter and more powerful design goes on sale

Xiaomi first launched a walkie-talkie last year and the response was outstanding. That has triggered the launch of the MIJIA Walkie Talkie 1S last week with an improved design and more powerful hardware but still retaining the price of last year’s model. The device was billed to go on sale in China on October 16 and indeed, the Xiaomi Walkie Talkie 1S has been listed on the shelves of Xiaomi Youpin online shop.

If you find the design of the first-generation MIJIA Walkie Talkie attractive, you will definitely fall in love this one. Xiaomi trimmed down the size of this model. It comes with a more compact and minimalist design. Walkie Talkie 1S is said to be 41% thinner and 43% lighter than the first-gen model. The smaller size means a slightly smaller battery capacity as it packs a 2190mAh battery unlike the 2600mAh cell on the first-gen model. The battery offers up to 5 days standby time and can last up to 16 hours when used continuously.

The solid build also includes a new speaker design which is meant to give it clearer and louder sound output. The maximum volume is increased by an impressive 162% from the previous model which makes it effective for use in a noisy environment. The frequency range is also increased, ranging from 300Hz to 1kHz. Just like the first-gen walkie-talkie, it also comes with FM Radio so apart from communication, you also get entertained. For connectivity, the device comes with a 3.5mm audio jack and Bluetooth 4.0. So, you can decide to use it hands-free. Yes, there is also a hook to strap it to your pocket. Thereis a MIJIA Walkie Talkie app which enables users to share their positions with colleagues.

The MIJIA Walkie Talkie 1S is available to buy for just 249 yuan ($36) in China. It comes in White and Blue colours. There is word as yet when the device will be available outside China.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro AnTuTu scores surpass 300k mark

The recently announced Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the most powerful smartphone from the company. The official AnTuTu benchmark scores of the handset has been revealed. The Mate 20 Pro that is powered by 7nm Kirin 980 has managed to breach 300k AnTuTu score.

AnTuTu has recently released the list of top 10 best performance Android phones for the month of September. The list includes smartphones like ASUS ROG Phone, Xiaomi Black Shark, OnePlus 6, Vivo NEX S, Xiaomi Mi 8, OPPO Find X, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, ASUS ZenFone 5Z, Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S and Xiaomi Poco F1. These phones are fueled by Snapdragon 845 chipset which is the 2^nd generation 10nm chipset from Qualcomm. The list no longer includes Kirin 970 powered Huawei and Honor phones. Even Exynos SoC driven Samsung phones have been ousted from the list.

On AnTuTu, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro (LYA-AL00 model number) has scored an average benchmarking score of 307,059 which is higher than 285k to 299k AnTuTu scores of the best performance Android phones for the previous month. Performance-wise, there won’t be major difference between a phone that scores around 290k points and other handset with nearly 310k points on AnTuTu. However, the 300k+ score of the Mate 20 Pro does reveal the prowess of the Kirin 980 SoC.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro that has been benchmarked on AnTuTu includes 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, Quad HD+ resolution supporting screen and Android 9 Pie OS. The Mate 20 Pro along with its sibling Mate 20, Mate 20X may lead AnTuTu’s list of top 10 best performance Android phones in October.

The upcoming Honor Magic 2 will be the first Honor phone to feature the Kirin 980 chipset. By the end of the year, Honor is expected to release Kirin 980 powered Honor V20 smartphones. These phones may also lead the AnTuTu’s best performance list of smartphones in the forthcoming months.

The AnTuTu scores of the Mate 20 Pro is still behind Apple’s recent iPhones. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max that are driven by 7nm Apple A12 chipset have respectively scored 348,581 and 348,148 points on AnTuTu benchmarks.

Huawei to start manufacturing phones in India from next year; plans 1,000 exclusive stores

Chinese telecom giant and smartphone manufacturer Huawei is reportedly planning to start manufacturing its phones in India from next year. Further, it order to strengthen its foothold in the market, it is also planning to open around 1,000 exclusive stores.

Huawei’s Global Vice-President, Jim Xu, said to Times of India: “We look at India strategically and now intend to grow our presence through launch of devices in the mid-and-premium-end of the market.”

The company’s 2019 manufacturing plan is likely referring to Huawei’s own manufacturing force for premium and flagship models. This strategy is different from other Chinese brands such as Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi, which are heavily relying on the low-end and mid-end smartphone devices.

However, for Huawei, trying to capture more market share in the premium segment makes sense given that its sub-brand Honor is already achieving around 400 percent growth in sales revenues and is aiming to be the leading smartphone vendor in India by 2021.

While revealing its plans of launching an aggressive marketing and retail campaign in India, the company said that it intends to spend around $100 million as a part of its outreach investment. Further, the company also said that it intends to have company-operated as well as partner-owned exclusive stores, and plans to open 1,000 such outlets in the next 2-3 years.

Having a strong offline presence will help the company boost its expansion plans in India. Further, Jim Xu says that the company could also launch products in other categories such as personal computer and smart wearables, and could also look at manufacturing them locally.

Huawei is currently the largest device maker in China, which is also the world’s largest market for smartphones. In 2017, the company accounted 153 million in global smartphone sales. Apart from China, its presence is also growing in Europe, where it accounts for over 20 percent in overall smartphone sales.

OPPO A7 TENAA listing updated with full specifications

A new OPPO smartphone with model numbers PBFM00 and PBFT00 as its variants have surfaced on TENAA with its full specifications. Both the model numbers have appeared on Bluetooth SIG website in the recent through which it has been revealed that the handset will carry OPPO A7 moniker. A report from the previous month had also revealed the entire specifications of the Oppo A7 smartphone.

The OPPO PBFM00 / PBFT00 phone is fitted with a 6.2-inch screen that carries support for 720 x 1520 pixels HD+ resolution. The waterdrop notch enabled display will offer an aspect ratio of 19:9. The handset is powered by an octa-core processor that works at 1.8 GHz. Rumors surrounding claim that it could be fueled by Snapdragon 450 chipset.

The SoC of the OPPO PBFM00 / PBFT00 is assisted by 4 GB of RAM. It has an inbuilt storage of 64 GB. For more storage, OPPO has included a microSD card on the device. It is preinstalled with Android 8.1 Oreo OS.The waterdrop notch of the smartphone features a selfie shooter of 16-megapixel. The rear side of the phone is fitted with a horizontally aligned 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera module.

The back panel of the OPPO PBFM00 / PBFT00 features a fingerprint scanner. The handset could be fueled by a 4,230mAh battery, but the TENAA listing claims that it features at least 4,100mAh capacity battery. The handset does not seem to carry support for VOOC fast charging. The smartphone measures 155.9 x 75.4 x 8.1mm and it weighs 158 grams. Its color variants are pink and blue. Now that the OPPO A7 has surfaced on TENAA, its unveil may not be far away.

OPPO has already released the OPPO A7X smartphone in China in September. The smartphone features a 6.3-inch waterdrop notch display with HD+ resolution. It is fueled by MediaTek Helio P60 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. It has an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. The ColorOS 5.2 flavored Android 8.1 Oreo OS is available preinstalled on the phone. Other features of the smartphone include 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera setup, 16-megapixel front-facing camera, rear-facing fingerprint scanner and 3,500mAh battery.

Meizu Note 8 camera samples reveal stunning low-light photography

The Meizu Note 8 is scheduled to go on the Oct. 25. On the very same day, Xiaomi will be announcing the highly anticipated Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 flagship phone. The Note 8 will be a mid-range device that is unlikely to give any competition to the Mi MIX 3. However, the fresh camera samples of the Meizu Note 8 suggests that it will offer flagship-level low-light photography experience.

Meizu Technology Senior Vice-President Li Nan has shared camera samples from an unnamed Meizu phone. He has asked Meizu fans to guess whether the images were shot using the forthcoming Meizu Note 8. Interestingly, Li Nan has used the Note 8 phone to share camera samples on Weibo.

The properties of one of the images show that the handset used to capture the two photos is the Meizu M1822 handset. The aperture value of the camera sensor of the Meizu M1822 is f/1.9. The ISO value of the image is 100 and the exposure time is 1/2 second. Recent reports have revealed that this model number belongs to the Meizu Note 8 that is slated to go official in the coming week.

The camera samples that were shot through Meizu Note 8 clearly reveals its low-light photography prowess. The night scene shots are very crisp and clear, and the noise control of the sky is impressive. The layers of the clouds are also visible. The Meizu Note 8 TENAA listing has revealed that it is equipped with 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel vertical dual camera. For snapping selfies, it is equipped with a front camera of 8-megapixel.

The Meizu Note 8 is fitted with a 6-inch LCD screen that produces Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is powered an octa-core processor that works at 1.8 GHz. The SoC is assisted by 4 GB of RAM. The handset is packed with a 3,500mAh battery that is coupled with fast charging technology.

The Note 8 is preloaded with Android 8.1 Oreo OS. It has an internal storage of 64 GB and carries support for external storage. It is equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 live shot reveals dual selfie cameras and very high screen ratio

Xiaomi is now aggressively teasing on the features of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 that is slated to go official on Oct. 25. The Chinese manufacturer has recently released a teaser video that showcases the slider mechanism of the phone. Also, a clearer render of the smartphone that reveals the 24-megapixel selfie shooter has been also released by the company. Now, a leaked photo of the Mi MIX 3 has surfaced on Weibo.

The image clearly reveals the thickness of the upper, lower and side bezels of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. Except for the slightly thick bezel at the bottom, the other bezels are quite thin. It goes without saying that the smartphone may offer a screen-to-body ratio of around 95 percent.

Sliding the display of the Mi MIX 3 downwards reveals its LED flash enabled dual selfie camera setup which includes 24-megapixel camera as the main sensor. The earpiece of the phone seems to be placed on the edge of the top bezel. The slider of the smartphone is also rumored to house 3D structured light module for 3D face scanning. As with other devices and manufacturers, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will also get a special edition along with the sliding design. The Chinese electronics maker has spilled some beans on the special edition of the Mi Mix 3. As per the latest post on Weibo, Xiaomi is talking about specially customized version including an artistic edition. However, we don’t have exact details about this special edition.

We expect this special edition to carry the reported 10GB of RAM. Since past week, Xiaomi is teasing the upcoming Mi Mix 3 almost every day. In every teaser, we get to know about the unknown features of the forthcoming bezel-less yet slider powered Mi Mix 3.

The new sliding feature will bring various functions like opening a camera, doing transactions and much more. It will carry a 24-megapixel dual front camera with flash at the front side. While on the rear, the mobile will come with a 16 MP + 13 MP camera Exmor-RS CMOS Sensor supporting a resolution of 4616 x 3464 Pixels. Further, there will be an on-screen fingerprint sensor with a full view display. It is touted to be the first commercial smartphone to have 5G support. On Oct. 17, Huawei announced the Mate 20 series of smartphones such as Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20X and Mate 20 RS Porsche Design smartphones in London. Amazon India has started a “Notify Me” page for the Mate 20 Pro which indicates that the country will be soon receiving the latest flagship phone from Huawei. The Chinese manufacturer has directly confirmed to the India media that the Mate 20 Pro will be debuting in the country in November.

Earlier this year, Huawei had released the Huawei P20 Pro along with P20 Lite in India. There is no confirmation whether any other Mate 20 series phone will be launching alongside the Mate 20 Pro in the country. Probably, the company may release the mid-range Mate 20 Lite alongside the Mate 20 Pro.

The Amazon India page for Mate 20 Pro touts features like AI, 7nm chipset, ultra-wide angle triple camera and 40W SuperChage. The retailer site hasn’t #AmazonExclusive hashtag for Mate 20 Pro. At the end of the previous month, Xiaomi had silently launched the Redmi Note 6 Pro smartphone in Thailand. The handset has been recently spotted on Xiaomi’s Spanish website which indicates that it will be soon landing in Spain. Also, a leaked invitation of the Redmi Note 6 Pro Indian launch has surfaced online which suggests that it will be launching in the country in the coming month.

The leaked invitation of Redmi Note 6 Pro for India does not mention the name of the smartphone directly. It teases the phone with “flagship camera killer” tagline which seems to be good hint that the Note 6 Pro will be arriving soon in India.

It further states that the unveil event will be held in New Delhi between Nov. 10 and Nov. 19. There is no confirmation on authenticity of the leaked invitation image. A recent report had claimed that Xiaomi could be aiming to launch the smartphone around the upcoming Diwali festive season in India. Hence, there is a possibility that the Note 6 Pro may debut around the 2^nd week in the country.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro is equipped with 6.2-inch IPS LCD screen with FHD+ resolution. It is fueled by Snapdragon 636 chipset. As Asus made an announcement last week, the Asus ROG phone is now available for pre-orders from the Asus, Amazon and the Microsoft Store. Users in the US can now pre-order the device from official online stores of the respective websites. It will start shipping from October 29. In fact, there was a launch event in New York City today at the Microsoft Store on Fifth Ave.

Along with the device, Asus is also coming with a wide range of accessories including three docks. There will be a TwinView dock for $400 giving you a second screen for the device. Next is the Mobile dock to scale the display to a 4K monitor, mouse, and keyboard at $300. The last one allows you to make a connection with TV and will retail at $200. Asus will bring a physical gaming controller at the price of $90, while the official case will go for $60.

The Asus ROG gaming phone is available at a price of $899.99. It packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 128 GB of internal storage. The chipset is overclocked at 2.96GHz to match the Snapdragon 850 Mobile computing platform performance. Asus has made arrangements of 3D vapor cooling chamber to resist from the enormous heat generated while performing power-intensive tasks.

Just as we recently reported, Samsung has today launched its 2-in-1 Galaxy Tab S4 in India. The premium tablet, which is the successor to last year’s Galaxy Tab S3, was originally launched ahead of the Galaxy Note9, in August this year.

In India, the device comes in two color options — Black and Grey. It is priced at Rs. 57,900 which roughly converts to $786, and is now available for purchase through Samsung Online Shop and offline retail stores, and will be up for sale on Amazon from October 20.
