Samsung Galaxy Note9 catches fire inside woman’s purse

Samsung‘s Galaxy Note7 fiasco is something Samsung has tried to put behind it. It has released four flagships after it and there have been no reports about fire issues or so we thought, until today. A report of a Galaxy Note9 catching fire has surfaced online.

Samsung Galaxy Note9 SD845

The Galaxy Note9 of a New Yorker has been reported to have burst into flames in her purse. The lady who goes by Diane Chung, a Long Island resident and an estate agent, reported that the phone was very hot while she was using it on September 3 in an elevator.

She then decided to put it in her bag only to hear a whistling and screeching sound from her purse with thick smoke pouring out. She tried to empty the purse in the elevator, burning her hand in the process. The smoke from the phone filled the elevator until she was able to get the door open and kick it into the lobby. She said the phone was still burning until a good samaritan picked it up and dropped it into a bucket of water.

Ms. Chung has filed a lawsuit against Samsung and is requesting for an undisclosed amount in damages and a restraining order preventing the Galaxy Note9 from being sold.

The Google Pixel 2 line-up was announced back in October 2017 in three color variants: Black, White, and Blue. This year, the number of color variants of the new series composed of Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL will be the same. There will be Black and White variants, but the third color will be a more original Mint hue. This is what just appeared on a new “Coming soon” website hosted by the Mountain View giant. If you visit it, you will see the outline of the upcoming handsets with the Google logo.

If you click the logo, you can switch between three color variants. Inside the outline of the phone in the White and Mint color variants, there is another green contour which makes us think White and Mint Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL will have green physical buttons. Instead, the Black variant has a gray line which should stand for gray buttons at the sides. Big G already confirmed that its upcoming flagships will be unveiled on October 9th in an event held in New York, just the day before Razer Phone 2 will be official. From what the latest leaks and even the new website suggest, the backplate will still be composed of two pieces with different colors.

The original Google Pixel 3 is expected to come with an 18:9 display sporting a size of 5.4 inches and a Full HD+ resolution, without notch. On the other hand, the XL variant will have an almost rectangular notch as well as a tri-borderless design and a chin containing a front speaker. Both will sport OLED displays, but Pixel 3 XL will offer a bigger size of 6.71 inches and a Quad HD+ resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels. Each of them will have a dual camera on the front, while only the XL variant will have a dual setup on the back.

Vivo V11 Pro can now record 4K videos thanks to a new update

Sometimes software updates can bring features you would never expect if not with a change in the hardware. It is the case with Vivo V11 Pro, the latest upper-midrange device from the BBK-owned Chinese company which has just received a new update bringing it closer to a flagship with a very interesting feature. Thanks to the new update which is rolling out on the new handset, it can now record videos in 4K resolution, even though it is not present in the changelog. However, note that 4K videos are not stabilized (neither with EIS, which is available with the 1080p resolution).

The update has a weight of 151 MB, so we suggest you download it while you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. It brings the number of version of the firmware to 1.7.6 (Funtouch OS based on Android Oreo). Besides 4K video recording, according to the changelog, the new update for Vivo V11 Pro also brings a new Smart Launcher which integrates various services in the form of cards. Thanks to it, will be easier to create shortcuts to quick actions and several other features.

The update comes with improvements to system security and stability, as well as optimizations to touch screen. At last, network adaptability has been optimized in some regions in order to bring more stability to the network connection. Vivo V11 Pro was recently launched in India with a pretty good camera setup composed of a dual sensor with 12 and 5 MP resolutions as well as f/1.8 and f/2.4 apertures, respectively. It has a borderless display with a 6.41-inch size, a Full HD+ resolution, and an in-display fingerprint reader. Under the hood, there is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset supported by 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB ROM.

Samsung makes the best OLED displays and is the top supplier for a bunch of phone manufacturers including Apple. However, the Cupertino-based company has been investing in other display manufacturers in order to break its dependence on  Samsung.

LG Display now apple secondary supplier

Apple seems to have succeeded as LG Display has been reported to be their new secondary supplier of OLED panels. The news comes from Korean publication Electronic Times and they say LG Display recently passed Apple’s quality tests and are already preparing for mass production of displays at the local E6 Plant

Photos of Huawei Mate 20 cases show large cut-outs for its triple cameras and fingerprint scanner

The Huawei Mate 20 series will launch in exactly a month and one day from today. The series will include the Mate 20, the Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20 Porsche Design.

Ahead of the release, photos alleged to be that of the Mate 20’s protective cases have surfaced online. The cases sport a number of cut-outs for the phone’s cameras, ports, and fingerprint scanner.

[envira-gallery id=”211943″]

The Mate 20 series will come with triple rear cameras but will have a different arrangement from that of the Huawei P20 Pro. Rather than a vertical and left corner arrangement, the cameras will be arranged in the middle to form a square with the LED flash and laser focus module.

These cases even have a cut-out for a fingerprint scanner which means the Mate 20 won’t have an in-display fingerprint sensor. There are cut-outs at the bottom too for the speaker, charging port, and audio jack. The volume rocker and power button are on the right which means the SIM tray is on the left.

Some of the images also show a mock-up of the phone’s display which sports a waterdrop notch and a slim lower bezel. The Mate 20 Pro, on the other hand, will have a much larger notch to house a plethora of sensors.

POCOPHONE F1 running Android 9 Pie seen on Geekbench

The POCOPHONE F1 is one of the most talked about Android phones released this year even though it just launched last month. What it has going for it is its awesome combination of mid-range price and flagship features. Even with its low price tag, the Poco F1 as it is known in India is a well-built device as confirmed by JerryRigEverything’s durability test.

POCOPHONE F1 photo

The phone comes with MIUI 9.6 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box but it appears an update to Android 9 Pie isn’t far off as a unit running the latest version of Android has been spotted on Geekbench.

This version of the POCOPHONE F1 was benchmarked yesterday and the benchmark result reveals it has 6GB of RAM. The scores are lower than that of the version running Android 8.1 Oreo which means there is still a lot of optimization to be done.

[envira-gallery id=”211926″]

Nevertheless, we believe an update should hit devices in the near future. We do not know if this update will come bundled with a stable version of MIUI 10 or will come separately.

The POCOPHONE F1 has a 6.18” FHD+ display, a Snapdragon 845 processor and 6GB/8GB of RAM. It packs 64GB/128GB/256GB of expandable storage which can be expanded by a MicroSD card slot which doubles as a second SIM tray.

Razer schedules a launch event on October 10 to launch Razer Phone 2

Razer has sent out invites for a launch event on October 10, where the company is expected to launch its next-generation gaming smartphone — Razer Phone 2. We earlier speculated October 10 as the launch date based on the phone’s renders but the company has now confirmed this by sending out press invites.

The upcoming Razer Phone 2 is the successor of the Razer Phone, a smartphone made specifically for the purpose of gaming, launched in November last year.

Razer Phone 2 Invite

Recently, the phone had surfaced online on AnTuTu, revealing its specifications. The listing confirmed that the phone will come with a 5.7-inch QHD Sharp IGZO display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and support for Qualcomm Q-Sync. The device will be powered by Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor coupled with 8GB RAM and a whopping 512GB of internal storage.

The phone is expected to be running on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. We are also expecting improvements in terms of camera performance and battery. Earlier, there were reports claiming that the Razer Phone 2 will be sporting Chrome LED effects that will light up the device when it receives notifications.

The leaked render of the upcoming Razer Phone 2 suggests that it is equipped with a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the 19:9 aspect ratio as is the current trend. The leak only shows the front side of the Razer Phone 2, thus there’s no confirmation on whether the handset will sport a different rear design than the original device.

When the Razer Phone was launched last year, there was no competition for a gaming smartphone. Since then, a couple of gaming smartphones have made their way to the market, including Nubia Red Magic, Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming phone, and Asus ROG Phone.

This is the second solid color after white which was spotted last month at TENAA, along with, the two gradient colors which are already teased by the Xiaomi. There might be some more colors as Xiaomi has created the device particularly for the younger generation.

Xiaomi Poco F1 Durability test proves that it’s a well-built device (Video)

Yesterday, YouTuber JerryRigEverything posted a video of the Xiaomi Poco F1 durability test. He performed all kind of tests to check how the Poco F1 stands against scratch resistance, burn resistance and water resistance. He used sharp knives and some other metal tools to test the durability of the device. Xiaomi mid-range device is selling like hotcakes in India due to its high-end specs and low-price. So, it’s a good time to check, how better Xiaomi Poco F1 rank in the durability test.

In the durability test, Xiaomi stood against all the odds and gained a good rating from the YouTuber. To test the scratch resistance, he used sharp cutter on the Gorilla Glass packed 2.5D curved display and on the sides of the phone. Apart from the basic scratches/grooves on the display, it survives from all the scratches that are made using metal coins, keys and similar other objects in your pocket. Further, he conveyed that the Poco F1 is little water resistant and pointed out its plastic build quality, which is prone to scratches and scuffs.

Talking about the fingerprint sensor, it sits on the backside of the device which also survived scratches from a sharp blade. YouTuber has termed it as “invincible”. Xiaomi packs similar quality material for the protector that is covering the dual rear camera setup on the back. Overall, the device’s backside is prone to scratches and it remains solid upon dropping it from normal height. Just a heads up, make sure to use a case for the device as the back is prone to scratches.

Here’s the Poco F1 durability test video:

In the end, YouTuber did some burn tests on the Xiaomi Poco F1 but it fails to impress. It survived open flame test for few seconds but after that it didn’t resist the fire. It also performed average in the bend test.

Overall, the device has gained appreciation in the scratch test which is a major part of the durability test. So, in general, Xiaomi Poco F1 build is quite good for daily usage.
