Nokia Partners With Xiaomi To Use Its Surge S1 Chip In Its Phone

Xiaomi and Nokia are said to have been in talks in recent times. Some speculated that Xiaomi was looking to use some of Nokia’s patents so it can penetrate foreign markets like the US but there have been no official statement on that. As at yesterday, sources said both corporations have signed a partnership and will reveal the details in the near future.

Surge S1

The good news is that we won’t have to wait to find out what the partnership is about. Leakster @Reviewer_ 小康 took to Weibo last night to disclose what Nokia and Xiaomi are up to.

Nokia Surge S1

According to him, an insider revealed that Nokia will use Xiaomi’s Surge S1 processor in its new phone. The phone wasn’t specified but it sure will be a mid-range device since the processor is a mid-range one.

Earlier this year, Xiaomi unveiled its own home-brewed System-on-Chip, the Surge S1. The Surge S1 currently powers the Xiaomi Mi 5c and it will be nice to see it in a phone from another manufacturer, a big one for that matter.

While we are all excited about the news, we should still take it with a pinch of salt until we get an official statement.

Leaked Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Protective Case Reveals Interesting Features

Samsung‘s next Galaxy Note series flagship, the Galaxy Note 8 is touted to come with a price that would make it Samsung’s highest priced smartphone. An earlier leak sort of pre-informs us that we shouldn’t expect anything less than $1000 on the Note 8. As such, we expect a top ranking, sleek design on the flagship Galaxy Note 8 in addition to a well-studded specs line-up.Samsung Galaxy Note 8

A Weibo leaker has now leaked what is said to be the protective casing of the Galaxy Note 8 for us to see what the design looks like. Although we won’t be able to see the entire design of the device, the protective casing affords us the chance to see where the openings are and as such know the location of some of its hardware like the camera. In this case, one interesting feature that we can see on the device is the cut-out at the rear which shows the Samsung flagship will come with a dual camera setup. The dual cameras are aligned in a horizontal direction with what should be a dual-tone LED flash but the side.Samsung Galaxy Note 8

The device will also come with a rear fingerprint sensor, meaning we’ll still have to wait some more for a front fingerprint sensor-packing Samsung flagship. The opening shows the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will have a similar fingerprint sensor design like the Galaxy S8. The device is also likely to come with the Bixby AI as there is an opening for the Bixby key. There is also an opening for the Stylus pen at the bottom end as well as a USB Type-C port and yes, there seems to be a 3.5mm audio port.

Moto M Spotted on GFXBench Smaller Screen, More RAM for 32 GB Model

Lenovo had launched the Moto M (model number XT1662) totting 5.5-inch FHD screen in the last quarter of 2016. Today, the Moto M bearing the same model number has appeared on GFXBench benchmarking platform with some modified specs.

One of the most striking changes that can be seen on the freshest listing of Moto M on GFXBench is that it features a 4.6-inch display that carries support for full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

Also, the 32 GB model of Moto M had featured 3 GB of RAM. There was another 64 GB variant of the phablet that came with 4 GB of RAM. The recent GFXBench listing of Moto M shows that it features 32 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM.

The listing contains two CPU variants such as MediaTek MT6755 (Helio P10) and MT6755T (Helio P15) for the Moto M. The Helio P10 model is running on Android Marshmallow whereas the Helio P15 variant is running on Android Nougat. Both the models feature the same amount of RAM and internal storage.

Last year, Lenovo had released the Moto M with Helio P10 in China and the Indian markets received its Helio P15 edition. The benchmark listing also reveals a 16-megapixel rear camera 4K video recording support and an 8-megapixel frontal shooter which can shoot full HD videos.

It is strange to see the original Moto M listed with different specs on the benchmarking site when there are rumors on the arrival of its successor model. There is a possibility that Motorola could be testing a new phone that is based on 2016’s Moto M and that could be the reason why it is carrying the same model number. Also, there is possibility that the company could be prepping up to release a new variant or successor for the phone for regions outside of China and India.

A leakster who has been consistently spilling information on upcoming Moto phones has claimed that the Moto M2 is slated for a launch in October this year. He has revealed that the Moto M2 would be equipped with a 5.5-inch full HD screen. He added that the 64 GB Moto M2 will have 4 GB of RAM and the 128 GB Moto M2 will include 6 GB of RAM. Motorola is also speculated to launch the Moto X4 in the last quarter of this year.

AT&T Motorola Moto Z2 Force Press Render Leaked; Reveals its Design from Angles

Motorola was expected to unveil the Moto Z2 and Moto Z2 Force on June 30, but there was no announcement on these flagship phones. However, the arrival of these phones appears to be close at hand. Evan Blass who has revealed fresh information on Moto X4 specifications has also leaked a press render of the AT&T Motorola Moto Z2 Force to reveal its design.

Last year, the Moto Z and Moto Z Force were exclusively available through Verizon in the U.S. Although the unlocked version of Moto Z was also available for purchase in the U.S., the Moto Z Force could be only purchased through Verizon. However, going by the tweet from reliable leakster, Evan Blass, it can be said that Moto Z2 Force will be available through multiple carriers in the U.S. this year.

As it can be seen in the above image, there is a AT&T logo present just above the Moto Mods accessories connector. Hence, this black colored handset is a AT&T edition of Moto Z2 Force.  Previous rumors have revealed that the shatterproof screen totting phone would be also available through Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. This indicates that all the major carriers of the U.S. will be selling the Moto Z2 Force.

There is no information available on when the Moto Z2 Force will be officially launched. In 2016, the original Moto Z was introduced in June but it was made available for purchase by September. The recent leaks on Moto Z2 and Moto Z2 Force suggest that they should get unveiled soon.

Rumors have revealed that the Moto Z2 Force would be coming with a ShatterShield display of 5.5 inches and it will be supporting a quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The flagship phone would be fueled by Snapdragon 835 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. The rear of the phone will be flanked with dual cameras that will be coupled with dual-LED flash. Last year, the 3.5mm audio jack feature was axed from the Moto Z.

Leaked information has revealed that the company would be bringing back the feature on Moto Z2 and Z2 Force. Both the smartphones are rumored to come with similar specs, but one of the major differences between the two would be that the Moto Z2 will not be featuring a ShatterShield screen.

OnePlus 5 Uses Inverted Screen, May Have Caused Scrolling Issue!

New details have now been revealed by XDA Developers that points at the likelihood that the OnePlus 5 screen scrolling issues reported by several users may have been caused by the device using an inverted screen. OnePlus has already issued a response about the display issue which stated thus, “the OnePlus 5 uses the same level of high-quality components as all OnePlus devices, including the AMOLED display. We’ve received feedback from a small number of users saying that at times they notice a subtle visual effect when scrolling. This is natural and there’s no variance in screens between devices.”

https://youtu.be/Y2X50k9Bj9Y

This response does nothing to allay the concerns and dissatisfaction of customers whose units are having such glitches. The statement did not even address the root cause of the jelly effect noticed during scrolling (demonstrated in the video above) but the cause seems to have been uncovered. oneplus 5

According to details posted on XDA-developers forum, the OnePlus 5 screen panel is indeed inverted and that was evident from the teardown when compared with that of the OnePlus 3T and others. Also, the kernel source code for the display was dug up by a developer and it clearly showed the inversion was captured in the source code.

OnePlus is yet to officially respond to this theory but an official is reported to have hinted that the inverted screen isn’t an error but its engineers deliberately designed the device that way for unknown reasons. The company official further stated that there is no evidence the jelly screen effect is caused by the inverted screen but they may be related.  Also, from its earlier statement, this isn’t a problem the company is going to be worried about since it did not in any way affect the functioning of the phone. The company claims that this issue is not the result of a manufacturing defect, Quality Assurance mishap, or software bug. So, we won’t be seeing a bug fix via an update just like Samsung did for the Galaxy S8’s red tint display issue anytime soon.

For now, only a handful of persons have reported this glitch on their device, that is likely why it is not being taken seriously by OnePlus. As time goes on and more complaints keep popping up, the tech giant may decide to address the issue more seriously. For now, the best bet for concerned fans is to either grapple with it or return the device for a refund or swap.

Samsung Galaxy C (2017), Galaxy A (2018) Phones to Feature Dual Rear Cameras

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be the first flagship from the South Korean company to feature dual rear cameras. However, if we believe what a Chinese leakster is claiming, the upcoming Galaxy C (2017) and Galaxy A (2018) models will be decked with dual rear cameras.

The Chinese leakster has already claimed a few months ago that the Samsung Galaxy C10 would be the first phone from the company to feature a dual rear camera system. It is said to be powered by Snapdragon 660 chipset. Samsung is also rumored to release Galaxy C10 Plus alongside the Galaxy C10.

The Galaxy C10 duo are expected to succeed the Galaxy C9 Pro. The leakster has recently claimed that since Samsung has employed its significant amount of its workforce towards the testing of Galaxy Note 8, the arrival of the Galaxy C10 duo has been delayed.

The Samsung Galaxy C7 and Galaxy C5 Pro (2017) that is speculated to be driven either by Snapdragon 660 or Snapdragon 630 is also speculated to come with dual rear cameras. Apart from these 2017 Galaxy C series phones, the South Korean company is also speculated to bring dual rear cameras on Galaxy A (2018) phones. The leakster has also revealed that the Chinese Galaxy J7 (2017) with model number SM-J7310 will be also equipped with dual rear cameras.

Samsung Galaxy phones are struggling in China. Since the manufacturing costs for dual rear camera systems have dropped down significantly, a lot of well-known and even lesser known brands are providing dual rear cameras on their smartphones. Hence, dual cameras on mid-range Samsung phones will allow it to compete with other smartphone OEMs in China.

Since the launch of Galaxy C10 duo has been delayed, there is no information on which will be the first Samsung phone to feature dual rear cameras. Recent leaks have revealed that the Galaxy Note 8 will be totting horizontally arranged dual rear cameras. with dual-tone dual-LED flash on its right. Rumors also suggest that the Galaxy S9 could be the first Galaxy S series phone with dual rear cameras. As far as Galaxy Note 8’s release is concerned, it is speculated to launch either in August or second half of September. The Galaxy C10 series is now rumored to launch later this year.
