Samsung Galaxy S10 series price, storage variants and color options leaked

Indian retailer Flipkart had recently teased that a new series of smartphones will be made official soon. The landing page on the retailer site has been now updated as it now confirms that the OPPO K1 smartphone will be made official on Feb. 6 at 12 PM. The K1 smartphone will be introducing the OPPO’s K-series of smartphones in India. It is the very same smartphone that was announced in China in October last year.

OPPO K1 promises to deliver latest technology at an incredible price. It is expected to arrive as the cheapest smartphone with in-screen fingerprint scanner. In China, the 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage editions of the OPPO K1 are respectively priced at 1,599 yuan (~$237) and 1,799 Yuan (~$267). In India, the smartphone is likely to be priced around Rs. 20,000 (~$281).

OPPO K1 Specifications and Features

The OPPO K1 is fitted with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display that delivers full HD+ resolution. The waterdrop-style notched screen offers an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The Snapdragon 660 is present under the hood of the OPPO K1 with up to 6 GB of RAM. It comes with a native storage of up to 64 GB.

The ColorOS 5.2 flavored Android 8.1 Oreo is preinstalled on the device. It comes with a selfie camera of 25-megapixel. Placed on the rear side of the phone is 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera setup. It is packed with a 3,600mAh battery. The smartphone had initially launched in gradient color variants of Blue and Red color choices in China. Later on, the Chinese manufacturer had released Silver Green and Black color editions of the smartphone.

A recent report has revealed that Redmi may launch the Redmi Note 7 smartphone in India on Feb. 12. The OPPO K1 that is launching around a week ahead of the Redmi Note 7 will be a good rival for the Xiaomi phone. In related news, it is speculated that the OPPO will be also launching new smartphones such as OPPO F11, F11 Pro and R17 Neo in India in the near future.

Samsung Galaxy foldable phone spotted in promo video

Samsung will be holding its Unpacked 2019 event on Feb. 20 to announce the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ smartphones. Rumors are rife that the first foldable phone from the company will be also announced at the same event. At the Samsung Developers Conference (SDC) 2018 in December, the South Korean company had showcased the foldable Infinity Flex screen that will be available on its first foldable smartphone. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019, the company had shown to select audience behind closed doors. Samsung Vietnam had posted a teaser video of the forthcoming Unpacked event on its YouTube channel. The video that has been taken off also featured Samsung’s foldable phone among other smartphones.

The foldable phone from Samsung features a cover display on the outside and a foldable screen on the inside. The woman can be seen opening the phone like a book for viewing the internal screen. At the SDC 2018, Samsung had revealed that the cover display measures 4.9 inches and it offers 840 x 1960 pixels resolution, 21:0 aspect ratio and 420dpi. The inner screen measures 7.3 inches and it produces 1536 x 2152 pixels resolution, 4.2:3 aspect ratio and 420dpi.

The exact name of Samsung’s foldable phone is still under the wraps. Some claim that it could be called Galaxy Fold, while others say that it may debut as Galaxy Flex. The Snapdragon 855 / Exynos 9820 chipset is expected to power the smartphone. It may come with up to 1 TB of storage. The foldable phone may com e with two rear-mounted cameras and 12-megapixel and 8-meapixel sensors on the cover. It is rumored to be packed with a pair of 2,190mAh batteries. It is likely to cost around $1,800.

In an effort to make the world a cleaner place, Elon Musk has made Tesla patents public. In an effort to fight the climate change, Elon Musk has open sourced the patents for the anyone who wants to use it. While making an announcement in a blog post founder of Tesla added that they, “will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.”

It is an exceptional gesture in the era where companies usually defend every minor advancement in the technology within their boundary walls. Elon Musk said that along with an effort to save the world, they are also pushing for advancements in the electric vehicle technology. In the same spirit, he added, “Yesterday, there was a wall of Tesla patents in the lobby of our Palo Alto headquarters. That is no longer the case. They have been removed, in the spirit of the open source movement…”

Surprisingly, the announcement came just after the US prosecutors framed a Chinese national against charges of stealing Apple’s self-driving vehicle project. Elon Musk said he is doubtful for patents which only served giant corporations and lawyers to gain rather than inventors. He said these patents repress the progress or “stifle progress” in the field.

The recent announcement has allowed Tesla to gain notoriety among the general public. Even though, enthusiasts in the electric vehicle market and some environment savvy guys will surely appreciate the move by Tesla. While making an announcement, Musk again remembered the ethos of Tesla and said, “Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal.”

Musk pressed on the fact that they will remain very strict against corporations which will use their patents, and then sell their products in the market at higher prices.

He even addressed the crisis that our world is going through. Musk said that other big companies are not working on clean fuel cars or electric vehicles. But they alone can’t even produce these many cars to compete for the never-ending demand. Even though, he added, “it is impossible for Tesla to build electric cars fast enough to address the carbon crisis.” Overall the idea behind the open-source philosophy is to make rapid advances in technology and match the demand.

“We believe that applying the open-source philosophy to our patents will strengthen rather than diminish Tesla’s position,” and ability to attract talented engineers, he said. We hope other companies should also follow the same way to invent new technologies at a much faster pace.

Recent reports have revealed Xiaomi India is planning to launch the Redmi Note 7 smartphone in India in February. Leaked information shared by an Indian publication reveals that the Redmi Note 7 will be announced in India on Feb. 12. The publication has also shared a leaked launch date poster.

The launch poster reveals that a Redmi smartphone will be announced in New Delhi, India on Feb. 12. The poster does not directly reveal the name of the device that will be unveiled in the coming month. However, the image of a notched phone suggests that the Redmi Note 7 that features a notched screen will be announced on the said date.

The Redmi Note 7 has already launched in China earlier this month. It is the first glass-bodied Redmi phone that comes with a 6.3-inch display that produces full HD+ resolution. The notched screen offers a tall aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

The Snapdragon 660 chipset is present under the hood of the device. It comes with up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of native storage. For additional storage, it is equipped with a microSD card slot. The MIUI 10 UI based Android 9 Pie comes preinstalled on the device.

The front notch is the home for the 13-megapixel selfie snapper. The rear side of the phone features a dual camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GM1 sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. It features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and also carries support for face unlock. The handset draws power from 4,000mAh battery which carries support for fast charging.

The Redmi Note 7 comes in three models in India. The base model that is priced at 999 Yuan (~$149) includes 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage. The second variant is priced at 1,199 Yuan (~$178) and it features 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. The highest model that comprises of 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage costs 1,399 Yuan (~$208). Rumors have it that the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Go Android Go smartphones may also debut soon in India. However, there is no fresh information available on their release.

Xiaomi, which is mostly known as a smartphone brand, has launched products in multiple categories, including lifestyle. In the lifestyle category in India, the company is selling products such as backpacks, pillows, sunglasses, and tees.

Now, according to the reports, the company is soon going to launch its smart shoes in the Indian market dubbed as Xiaomi Mi Sport Shoes. The report further adds it could be priced at Rs. 2,999 which roughly converts to $42.

The Mi Sport Shoes, which will be launched in India soon, is the rebranded Xiaomi Mijia Sneakers 2 which were launched in China last year, for a price of 199 Yuan, which roughly converts to $31. While the India launch date is not yet known, reports indicate that it could be launched in India as soon as this week.

As smart shoes have already been launched in China, its features are known. It is manufactured using the Uni-Moulding process which ensures five different layers and types of materials are fused into a single mould. Each of the layers is then separated using a thin polyurethane film pressed and bonded.

As the components are pressed together with the mold, the appearance of the components appears to be cleaner than the ordinary manual glue combination, and the probability of the glue opening up is also highly reduced. This new uni-Moulding process also provides better stability and support to the feet.

Additionally, the midsole is crafted using the INFUSE material by the popular company Dow Chemical (DuPont). This material can greatly increase the resiliency of the midsole and is more comfortable and less deformable than ordinary EVA.

The upper part of the shoes is manufactured using a three-dimensional seamless high-elastic knitting process. It uses just one seam thus minimizing foreign body sensation. While there’s no mention of the intelligent chip inside but since the first version had one, this model likely houses it.

The company is selling even more sneakers and shoes in Mainland China under its Amazfit, Mijia, Urevo, and other ecosystem brands, however, the other products unlikely to launch in India anytime soon. To know more about this along with its pricing and availability, we’ll have to wait for the official launch in India.

Honor 5G phone releasing in second half of 2019

Various smartphone manufacturers are getting ready to launch their first 5G phones this year. While the parent company Huawei is gunning to debut its 5G phone in the first half of 2019, sub-brand Honor is looking forward to releasing its first 5G phone by the second half of this year.

During a group interview with Android Authority in Paris, Honor President George Zhao confirmed that its company would be launching the first 5G phone in the “second half of the year.” However, the name of the device was not disclosed as Zhao claimed that the model would depend on the infrastructure and progress of the operators supporting the 5G networks.

The publication claims that it was in September last year that Zhao had said that the first 5G honor phone would be launching at sometime in 2019. In the recent past, various smartphone manufacturers have announced their 5G plans. Some of them are even aiming to debut their 5G smartphones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 event that will be held between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28 in Barcelona, Spain.

It remains to be seen where Huawei and Honor will be releasing their first 5G phones. It seems like the U.S. and Canada may not receive 5G phones from Huawei and Honor soon. For security concerns, the U.S. government is reportedly planning to ban Huawei branded telecommunications equipment. In December, Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada for allegedly defrauding multiple financial institutions. Huawei telecommunication devices are already banned in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

What’s working in the favor of Huawei is that their business is unaffected in major markets like China, India and Europe. Following Huawei, its sub-brand Honor may face no problems in launching its 5G phones in these markets.

Reliable tipster Roland Quandt has shared fresh renders of the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ color variants that are very likely to release in Europe. The new renders have revealed the Midnight Black, Emerald Green and Prism White editions of the Galaxy S10 duo.

The Midnight Black edition of the Galaxy S10 and S10+ has no color gradient and has a simple appeal. The Emerald Green has an aqua-like that is brighter on the top and appears darker towards the bottom. The Prism White has a mix of blue and purple hues with white undertone. Apart from these colors, the S10 and S10+ phones may come in a Blue variant, but it may not be released immediately.

Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ Design

The Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ are equipped with curved AMOLED Infinity-O panels on the front. The upper and lower bezels on both phones have been significantly reduced. Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus official press renders leak

Samsung is expected to take the wraps off the Galaxy S10 models during the “Galaxy Unpacked” event billed to hold in San Francisco on February 20. We expect the rumour mills to continue buzzing but it seems all there is to know about the flagships are already in the public domain. The latest leak to meet with us is the render of the device purported to be the official press render of the Galaxy S10 Plus.

There is hardly any reason to doubt the authenticity of this photo. The renders were shared by 91mobiles which claimed to have gotten it from a”reliable source”. The quality of the picture again lends credence to its authenticity. However, it looks very much like the ones that had been hared in the past especially the high-res CAD renders from Twitter leakster, Onleaks.

The device looks very much interesting, both at the front and the rear aspects. The front design includes the punch-hole display which houses not one, but two selfie cameras. The punch-hole design fits in line with Samsung’s Infinity O display technology, which the company talked about at a press conference back in November. As a result of the design, the bezels surrounding the display on the Galaxy S10 Plus are noticeably slimmer. The device is said to feature a 6.4-inch AMOLED display just like the Galaxy Note 9 but this model may likely offer the highest screen-to-body ratio for any Samsung smartphone yet.

At the rear, the equally houses three camera sensors with an LED flashlight at the side. There is no fingerprint sensor at the rear which means the device will feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. The location of the volume rockers and power buttons at the side don’t seem to have changed. The volume rockers and Bixby button are on the left side while the power button sits at the right. The Galaxy S10Plus is expected to pack a Snapdragon 855 chipset as well as the latest Exynos 9820on some models. For memory, the device will have at least 6GB of RAM and up to 1TB of native storage.

MediaTek’s revenue for the first quarter of 2019 expected to drop by up to 20%

The growing posture of Qualcomm’s chipsets continues to be at the detriment of rival chipmakers especially Taiwanese fabless chip manufacturer MediaTek. It has been disclosed that the company expects to post a revenue decline of 12-20% sequentially in the first quarter of 2019, and flat or slight revenue growth in all of the year.

MediaTek reported consolidated revenues declined 9.2% sequentially to NT$60.89 billion (US$1.98 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2018, due mainly to a seasonal slowdown in demand for consumer electronics. Gross margin grew 0.4pp on quarter to 38.9%, thanks to a favourable product mix. Also, the Taiwanese chipmaker generated net profits of NT$3.75 billion in the fourth quarter, down 45.4% sequentially, with EPS coming to NT$2.42. MediaTek’s consolidated revenues for all of 2018 slipped 0.1% to NT$238.06 billion when gross margin climbed 2.9pp on year to 38.5%. The company posted net profits of NT$20.78 billion in 2018, down 13.7%, with EPS reaching NT$13.26.

According to MediaTek’s CEO Rick Tsai, the company is aware of decelerating smartphone growth. He also added that the global smartphone market growth will remain slow until 5G-compatible devices become commercially available. MediaTek is stepping up the development of its 5G-enabled solutions, and expects to introduce its 5G SoC series at the end of 2019 following the launch of its 5G modem chip in the first half of the year, Tsai indicated. The company will also roll out its new chip solutions for the next-generation Wi-Fi technology – Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and automotive electronics products in 2019, Tsai also disclosed. The company will continue to diversify its offerings for further product mix improvement, Tsai added. The CEO noted that improvement in the company’s product mix is bearing fruit. Thus, the company expects to post a gross margin of 38-41% in the first quarter of 2019 despite an anticipated revenue fall of up to 20%.

Four Qualcomm infringement suits against Apple dismissed by German court

US chipmaker Qualcomm and smartphone giant Apple have been locked in several court cases for a couple of years now and there is no likelihood it will end soon. One of the court cases before a regional court in Munich, Germany has been struck out. The patent infringement suit relates to patents bothering on search capabilities on the iPhone as well as four other search-related patent suits that are awaiting the court’s disposition.

The same court had last month issued a ruling against Apple which effectively prevents the company from selling the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in the country. But this time around, the court thinks otherwise. In one of the multiple court cases, a regional court in Mannheim earlier this month threw out another patent infringement suit filed by Qualcomm against Apple describing it as “groundless”.

Qualcomm is seeking for a fine from the court against Apple for not fully complying with the German sales ban. The chip maker made reference to a press release by Apple following the ban, stating that the affected iPhone models would still be available from other retailers despite the ban. Obviously, there is no end in sight for this two gladiators.

Vivo V15 Pro leaked promotional poster gives us a glimpse of the device

Vivo India recently sent out invites to a February 20 product launch where the company is expected to unveil the V15 Pro. The Vivo V15 Pro is expected to feature a pop-up camera and an innovative design style that would see the device come in almost bezel-less. An official-looking promotional poster has now leaked online showing the phone from all angles.

The poster captures both the front and rear aspects of the device and of particular interest is the popup front camera on top of the display just like that of the Vivo Nex. The front design looks like the Vivo Nex, just that the V15 Pro will be cheaper.

The rear design includes a vertically aligned triple rear camera setup with the LED flash embedded in between the first two sensors. There is no rear fingerprint sensor which means the device will have an in-display fingerprint sensor. Another thing we can pick up from the renders is that the device will have an ultra-slim frame.

For specs, the Vivo V15 Pro is expected to pack a Snapdragon 710 chipset but there is no concrete evidence available on it yet. Pre-booking in India is expected to on February 15 but the exact price is yet to be announced. The Vivo V15 Pro is expected to arrive in India within Rs. 25,000 (~$350) and Rs. 30,000 (~$420).

LG announces record profits for 2018 despite ailing mobile phone division

South Korea tech giant LG Electronics has announced its annual revenue for 2018 and it is pretty impressive. The company raked in a whopping $54.4 billion in revenue and a record profit of $2.4 billion. It is interesting to note that the company’s profit for last year is 10% higher than in 2017.

This impressive record comes amid a continued decline of the company’s mobile phone division. The mobile division raked in a yearly revenue of just $7.08 billion, incurring liabilities in excess of $700 million covering the cost of operations. However, the company disclosed that the mobile division is showing signs of improvement thanks to better control over spending and inefficiencies. Perhaps, to set on a quick path to recovery, LG is gearing up to launch the V50 ThinQ 5G phone alongside the G8 at MWC 2019. The tech giant also hinted that it will rely on operator-driven markets (North America and Korea) for stable sales this year and will push 5G phones and devices with “different form factors” to try and go back in the black.

The breakdown of the company’s profits for 201 is as follows;

LG Home Entertainment posted a record profit of $1.35 billion. It will lean on its premium OLED TVs and large 4K TVs to increase revenue and profits.

LG Home Appliance also posted a record profit of $1.35 billion and was LG’s strongest performing unit in 2018.

The LG Vehicle Components Company took in $1.24 billion, the highest in the division’s history. This is attributed to the high demand for infotainment hardware and a strong performance of ZKW. LG acquired 70% of ZKW’s shares in 2017 for €1.1B, the largest acquisition in the Korean company’s history.
