The OPPO R15X is official and to be honest, there isn’t much to be excited about. Save for the new Ice gradient color which looks pretty good and the larger storage, this is the OPPO K1 that launched a few weeks ago with a new name.

The OPPO R15X didn’t get a proper launch but its already listed on the official website. It will go on sale on the 1st of November for ¥2499 (~$360).

That amount will get you a phone with a 6.4-inch FHD+ display with a waterdrop notch and a 91% screen-to-body ratio. The display is AMOLED, covered in Gorilla Glass 5 and has a fingerprint scanner underneath. There is also a 25MP AI camera with lots of features, placed inside the notch.

The OPPO R15X is powered by the Snapdragon 660 processor which is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The back of the phone is covered in 3D glass with dual cameras at the top left corner. OPPO doesn’t state the specs of the cameras but since we know this is the K1, the cameras are a 16MP f/1.7 sensor and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. There are a bunch of features such as scene recognition, portrait mode, and time-lapse photography.

The OPPO R15X runs ColorOS 5.2 based on Android Oreo out of the box. It has a game mode, supports secure payment, and a smart assistant that learns your usage habits.

Just after announcing the Meizu M8 Note launch at the Beijing Performing Arts Center on October 25, now Meizu has suddenly canceled the event. Meizu has cited some “site reasons” behind the cancellation of the launch event. The event site, Beijing Performing Arts center has some issues which led to the cancellation of the event. Well, it seems quite absurd as many OEMs launch their devices at the same venue and has never met with these issues.

Well, whatever the actual reason is, it will remain under wraps as no one is going to give an explanation about it. So, for now, users can stick with the online broadcast at 19:30 Beijing Time (11:30 AM GMT) on October 25th. We will share the live streaming details on the day of Meizu M8 Note launch.

As far as the specs are concerned, Meizu M8 Note is touted as the “national camera phone” by the company. It will be interesting to know, how Meizu M8 Note camera stands against its competitors. As per the rumors, it will host the same dual camera module as like of Galaxy S7 featuring 1.4 μm large photosensitive pixels. There will be a 12 megapixel + 5-megapixel dual shooter and f/1.9 large aperture. While on the front an 8-megapixel shooter will take place for selfies.

Additionally, there will be a 5.7-inch display with the resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels having an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and packs a 3,000mAh battery. It is expected to retail at the price of 1000-1500 yuan (~$144-$216).

HMD Global announces price cut on four Nokia smartphones in India

HMD Global has announced price cut on four Nokia phones in India — Nokia 3.1, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 6.1, and Nokia 8 Sirocco. While the mid-range devices received price cut between Rs. 1,000 ( approximately $14) and Rs. 1,500 (approximately $20), the pricing for the company’s flagship device got slashed by Rs. 13,000 (approx. $177).

The pricing of Nokia 3.1 packing 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage has been slashed by Rs. 1,000 and thus, is now available to purchase for Rs. 10,999 (approximately $150). The Nokia 5.1, on the other hand, with 3GB RAM has got a price cut of Rs. 1,500, bringing down the phone’s price to Rs. 10,999.

On the other hand, the pricing of Nokia 6.1 has been slashed by Rs. 1,500 for the 3GB RAM model. The 4GB RAM variant of the same smartphone has received a price cut of Rs. 1,000. With this new pricing, the 3GB RAM model now retails at Rs. 13,499 (approximately $184) while the 4GB RAM model of the same device costs Rs. 16,499, which roughly converts to $225.

The most expensive phone from HMD Global in India — the Nokia 8 Sirocco — has now received a massive price cut of Rs. 13,000. With this, the device is now be available for purchase in India for Rs. 36,999, which roughly converts to $505. It was launched in India in April this year, for a price of Rs. 49,999, approximately $682.

The price cut on the Nokia smartphones comes as the company recently launched their successors — Nokia 3.1 Plus, 5.1 Plus, and 6.1 Plus. Along with the Nokia 3.1 Plus in India, the company also launched Nokia 8110 4G VoLTE feature phone.

HMD Global also recently launched the Nokia 7.1 smartphone, which comes with “PureDisplay” and is powered by Snapdragon 710 chipset, coupled with SD636 SoC, and features dual rear cameras. Last week, in China, the Finnish company launched the Nokia X7 smartphone in China, which could soon roll out to other markets as Nokia 7.1 Plus.

In a newly leaked video of the Samsung W2019, we can see it’s dual-screen and flip design along with the dual rear shooters. The new version of the Samsung flip phone comes with various improved features and specs. It features 4.2-inch AMOLED displays – one on the inside and one on the outside.

As per the listing on TENAA, Samsung W2019 flip phone carries Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with a T9 keyboard under the hood. In the camera department, Samsung added a dual camera setup having an aperture of f/1.5-2.4. It will bring an optical 2X zoom capabilities using its second camera shooter on the rear side. A screenshot showing the price of both phones was posted on Twitter yesterday by @MMDDJ_. According to the image, the Galaxy A6S will be sold at ¥2199 (~$317). This is for the 6GB RAM variant. The 6GB RAM Galaxy A9S, on the other hand, will sell for ¥3499 ($505).

Both phones will definitely be available in multiple variants, so expect more expensive and cheaper price tag.

Nokia 6.1 will skip beta labs and jump straight to Android Pie

The Nokia 6.1 Plus received Android Pie beta two weeks ago. This prompted owners of the Nokia 6.1 to inquire when it would be their turn since both devices are scheduled to get updated this month. According to a Nokia executive, there will be no beta version of Android Pie for the Nokia 6.1.

In a response to the question on Twitter, Juho Sarvikas, the product manager for HMD Global, revealed that they will skip beta labs on the Nokia 6.1 and roll out Pie soon. So expect the update to Android Pie soon.

The Nokia 6.1 has a 5.5-inch FHD screen, a Snapdragon 630 processor, 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage. It has a 16MP f/2.0 rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 3,000mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy A9s to launch in China on October 24

The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) is the first smartphone in the world with four cameras. It was first unveiled in India over a week ago at an elaborate event. It is now set to launch in China on October 24.

The Galaxy A9 (2018) will likely launch as the Galaxy A9s in China. It will be unveiled at an event in Xi’an at 19:00 (local time) according to the official poster.

The Galaxy A9s will have a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 2220 resolution. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Sitting above the infinity display is a 24MP f/2.0 selfie camera. On the back are the four cameras – an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, a 24MP f/1.7 main camera, and a 5MP f/2.2 depth camera.

The Galaxy A9s will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 3,800mAh battery. It will come pre-loaded with a bunch of Samsung apps and also have the Bixby assistant.

The Black Shark 2 gaming phone launches in two days. Black Shark has been dropping teasers counting down to the day on its Weibo page. Two of its latest teasers confirm some features of the phone.

The teaser released yesterday confirms the Black Shark 2 will have support for liquid cooling. The original Black Shark gaming phone also has liquid cooling but we don’t know if Black Shark is making any changes for that of the new phone or it will be the same. The teaser for today reveals the phone will have great signal reception so there are no issues while playing online games.

Design

These are three devices with very different aesthetics, two of which have atypical gaming-centric designs. The one which is mostly similar to a typical smartphone is Huawei Mate 20 X, but it is also the biggest one and it is more like a tablet. Asus ROG Phone instead has a very aggressive design. I would pick the one in the middle: Razer Phone 2, not only for its more elegant looks but also because it is water resistant.

Display

When it comes to the view quality, the best display is the one of Razer Phone 2. It has a 5.72-inch 16:9 panel with Sharp’s IGZO technology. The panel has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, the highest ever seen on a phone, as well as a high Quad HD resolution. And it also features a very high brightness. On the other hand, Asus ROG Phone features the HDR technology and DCI-P3 coverage which provides better colors, but it has a lower detail as well as a lower refresh rate. Huawei Mate 20 X has the less impressive quality but it has a bigger display (7.2 inches) and it supports the M Pen with 4096 pressure levels.

Specs & Software

The most powerful hardware side actually in the market belongs to Asus ROG Phone, which boasts the best processor in the market (Qualcomm Snapdragon 845) overclocked at a frequency of 2.96 GHz). It also comes with whopping 8 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage. However, note that we still did not test the performance of the new Kirin 980 as Huawei Mate 20 X is still not in the market: it may result even better than Asus ROG Phone.

Camera

Huawei Mate 20 X has the best camera side as it features the same triple camera setup as the Huawei P20 Pro. It includes a main sensor with a huge 40 MP resolution, a secondary 20 MP ultrawide sensor and an 8 MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. It has no rivals in the gaming smartphones sector.

Battery

Huawei Mate 20 X wins even the battery challenge because it features a bigger 5000 mAh unit, that it was possible to integrate due to its bigger dimensions. You will need a bit more to charge it, but you can get more gaming hours on a single charge. Note that Asus ROG Phone has an additional USB-C port to connect important accessories to enhance the gaming experience, such as a joypad, an external cooler and more.

Price

Huawei Mate 20 X will be soon available with a price tag of €900/$1037, Asus ROG Phone starts from €900 as well, while Razer Phone 2 starts from €850/$980. If you are specifically looking for a gaming device, then Asus ROG Phone is the choice that has most sense, but if you also need a smartphone for other advanced activities such as productivity or photography, Huawei Mate 20 X is the best choice.

Last Windows Phone, the Wileyfox Pro, is on sale again

Microsoft pulled the plug on the Windows Phone operating system last year and it came as a shock to a lot of people. After the announcement, British manufacturer, Wileyfox, still went ahead to release a Windows phone – the Wileyfox Pro. The phone which is informally referred to as the last Windows phone went on sale for a few months before it stopped selling. Now it is back on sale again and for less too.

The Wileyfox Pro originally launched for £189.99 which was quite high for the specs it packed. However, you can purchase it for £89.99 now on Amazon UK. For that amount, you are getting a 5-inch HD screen with Gorilla Glass 3, a Snapdragon 210 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. The Wileyfox Pro also has an 8MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, and a 2,100mAh removable battery.

There are scores of Android phones that have better specs that you can buy for the price of the Wileyfox Pro but remember, you are not buying it for the specs but for the OS.
