Samsung still remains the market leader in the smartphone market and until recently Apple was in second place. The U.S company dropped to the third place, overtaken by Huawei according to data from the second quarter of the year. Notwithstanding, Apple has been the target of several Samsung adverts over the years and the reason isn’t far-fetched. Despite not shipping the same number of smartphones with Huawei or Samsung, Apple has remained the most profitable smartphone maker globally. This is mostly due to the pricing of its smartphones and Apple’s extremely loyal fan base worldwide. Samsung has once again taken on Apple in one of the most bizarre ways we have seen. The South Korean tech giant took its latest anti-Apple marketing drive to a tiny village in the Netherlands named “Appel” which is Dutch for apple.
The visit isn’t anything but a publicity stunt and it saw Sammy ditching out free Galaxy S9 units to 50 lucky residents of the town whose entire population is put at 312. The campaign was carried out in collaboration with an 18-year old Apple fan from the village. Of course, there is a short video clip showing the 50 lucky residents of Appel as they received their brand new Galaxy S9 model.
Gerben van Walt Meijer, Marketing Manager, Samsung Mobiles, Netherland summed up the reason why the company chose this path – “With our innovative products and services, we have been off the beaten track for years to make everyday life more fun and easy. With this marketing campaign, we do exactly the same. We are off the beaten track to get our message across. Our goal is to introduce as many people as possible to the possibilities of the Samsung Galaxy S9.”
In the past few weeks, multiple sources had claimed that Galaxy P30 and Galaxy P30+ will be debuting as Samsung’s new P-series of smartphones. Fresh information shared by two industry experts have claimed that the rumored P-series smartphones will be debuting as Galaxy A-series devices.
New information reveals that the South Korean company has not axed the Galaxy P30 and Galaxy P30+ smartphones. The Galaxy P-series was rumored to be aimed towards markets like China and India where the company has been consistently losing its market share.
These phones are expected to debut before the end of the year, but they are now rumored to join the Galaxy A lineup. Moreover, Samsung has no plans to plans to release any Galaxy P smartphones.
The Galaxy P-series was rumored to be aimed towards markets like China and India where the company has been consistently losing its market share. There is no concrete evidence available as to why the company may decided to take such a step. One should be aware of the fact that Samsung had never confirmed on the existence of P-series.
For the uninitiated, the Galaxy P30 was expected to arrive in 64 GB and 128 GB storage flavors. Both the models were expected to include 6 GB of RAM. The handset was pegged to carry Infinity Display design. It was also revealed that the smartphone may arrive in color gradient versions of blue, black and red.
Facebook has said that an attack on its network has affected almost 50 million user accounts, exposing their personal information. The breach could allow attackers to take over the accounts of affected users. The full extent of the attack remains unknown at this time.
The social media giant said that the security breach was discovered earlier this week on Tuesday. The company found that the attackers had exploited a feature in Facebook’s code that impacted ‘View As’, which lets people see what their own profile looks like to others. The attackers exploited the vulnerability, which leaked Facebook access token, giving attackers access to users’ accounts.
In a conference call with reports, Mark Zukerberg, CEO of Facebook, said, “We’re taking it really seriously. We have a major security effort at the company that hardens all of our surfaces. I’m glad we found this. But it definitely is an issue that this happened in the first place.”
Currently the company’s internal investigation “is still in its early stages” and it has provided no details regarding who might be behind the attack or what user data (if any) was exfiltrated. Facebook has not revealed where in the world the affected 50 million users are, but says that it has informed Irish data regulators, where Facebook’s European subsidiary is based.
Over 90 million users were forced to log out of their accounts on Friday, which is a common security measure when accounts have been compromised. However, the users were not required to change their passwords.
The company said that it has fixed the vulnerability and has also notified law enforcement officials. It has temporarily disabled the View As feature while the company conducts a thorough security review. Facebook says that peoples’ privacy and security are very important and apologises for the incident.
The news about security breach comes at a time when Facebook is going through a rough time. It is currently facing federal investigation over its role in the Cambridge Analytica scandal in which the firm misused data from about 87 million Facebook users.
Recent reports have revealed Hima, Laya and Everest are the respective codenames of the upcoming Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 Porsche Design smartphones. Earlier this month, these devices were spotted at TENAA, but the Chinese authority is yet to update their listings with full specs and images. Today, the TENAA listings of the upcoming Mate 20 series have been updated. Their full specs have not arrived yet, but their storage and RAM variants have now surfaced on TENAA.
The above information is overwhelming, but one should be aware of the fact that the ALXX and TLXX models are carrier/network variants of the same phone. To sum up, the upcoming Huawei Mate 20 series of flagship phones will be the first phones to come with 8 GB of RAM. Also, it is interesting to see that the highest configuration edition of all three Mate 20 phones will be equipped with 512 GB storage.
It remains to be seen whether Huawei will be confirming all the aforementioned storage and RAM variants of the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 Porsche Design at the Oct. 16 launch event.
Earlier today, OnePlus released its first official teaser for its next flagship – the OnePlus 6T. Apart from confirming the name, the teaser also hints at the phone coming with an in-display fingerprint scanner.
The six-second video is an animation that shows a shield with a “T” inscribed on it and a text that says “Unlock The Future”. At the end, it reveals the device’s name is the OnePlus 6T. The accompanying text with the tweet says “It’s coming”.
We are not surprised there isn’t a release date yet. That should come much later followed by the now familiar “T-minus” countdown teasers.
OnePlus has also announced “The LAB – OnePlus 6T Edition” contest where it selects 10 lucky individuals to get a hands-on experience of the OnePlus 6T before it launches. Selected folks will receive a review unit of the OnePlus 6T and share their review with the OnePlus community. Apart from smartphones, most of Xiaomi’s products are manufactured by third-party manufacturers who form part of Xiaomi’s ecological chain companies. One that readily comes to mind is Huami which is responsible for the Mi Band wearables. Others include Oclean with its range of sonic electric toothbrush, Viomi with its range of kitchen gadgets, and there is Xiaoxun which is the company responsible for the range of Mi Bunny children smartwatches including the latest model with GPS as well as kiddies scooter etc. Xiaoxun has now launched a smart story-telling educational toy with artificial intelligence (AI).

The device packs a durable 1800mAh rechargeable battery which can last up to 8 hours of continuous usage.

Mid-end phones improved a lot in 2018. Now they feature a way better design, great performance, and even better cameras if we compare them with the ones released in the first half of the year. This is a comparison between Vivo V9 Pro, Huawei Nova 3i and Honor 8X, all devices recently released with very exciting specs at a very good price, unlike the most powerful flagships.

Design
I personally like the design of Huawei Nova 3i very much, and I like it because it is available in a very impressive gradient hue: Iris Purple which goes from blue on the upper part to purple in the lower one. And the device even comes with a stunning reflective glass on the back. But if you do not like this color, then Huawei Honor 8X has a better design thanks to its higher screen-to-body ratio. Vivo V9 Pro is beautiful, but I do not like it as much as its opponents from Huawei.
Display
The most interesting display belongs to Huawei Honor 8X as it has a huge 6.5-inch diagonal. So, it is very comfortable to read or watch videos with this handsets, and that is why I would pick it. Viewing quality is not so different between these devices, so I am not going to make a choice by basing on viewing quality. Indeed, all of them have IPS panels and a Full HD+ resolution.
Specs & Software
Vivo V9 Pro is the device with the highest performance, thanks to its more powerful SoC. We are talking about the Snapdragon 660 by Qualcomm, which has a more powerful GPU than Kirin 710 and a max frequency of 2.2 GHz. Further, this device alongside the Huawei Honor 8X sports a dedicated micro SD slot. While it has the best hardware, we like more the software found on Huawei phones. Vivo V9 Pro comes with Funtouch OS installed, while Nova 3i and Honor 8X have the EMUI. But overall, I would still pick Vivo V9 Pro.
Camera
Which of these devices should you choose from this trio? It mainly depends on which cameras you are interested in. If you care more about rear cameras, then go for the Honor 8X as it features a higher resolution as well as a brighter aperture which provide more detailed shots, especially in low-light conditions. But if you care about selfies the most, then you should choose Huawei Nova 3i as it has a great dual front camera with 24 and 2 MP resolutions and with f/2.0 aperture, as well as a very advanced AI beauty mode.
Battery
Huawei Honor 8X is the handset with the biggest battery. Its lithium unit has a way bigger capacity than the opponents and it is able to last a lot more. But note that, on the other hand, it also has bigger dimensions, so if you want a device which fits in your pocket it may not be the best choice for you.
Price
Even though their specs are similar, these handsets come with different prices. Vivo V9 Pro costs about $347 or €300, Huawei Nova 3i costs about $405 or €350 and Huawei Honor 8X has an average price of $254/€220. With the actual prices, Huawei Honor 8X has the best value for money and it wins the comparison.
Rumors have it that the Huawei Watch GT is an upcoming smartwatch from the company. It is speculated to go official on the Oct. 16. On the very same day, Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro flagship phones are confirmed to get announced. A new Huawei smartwatch with a model number of FTN-B19 has recently received approval from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. It is believed this smartwatch may get unleashed as the Huawei Watch GT or Watch X. Promotional materials of the alleged Watch GT have appeared today to confirm some of its key features.
The above poster refers to the smartwatch as Fortuna which could be the codename of the Huawei Watch GT. The images of the smartwatch in the promo materials show that its design bears resemblance with Huawei Watch 2 Sport. Some of the fitness features available on the smartwatch include running plan, real-time coaching, and training effect analysis. It will be also able to distinguish between different sports activities such as running, biking, swimming, mountaineering, hiking, trail running and triathlon.
The Huawei Watch GT is expected to last for 14 days in watch mode with all the features turned on. It can last for 7 days in watch mode with always-on screen. In GPS mode, it can last for 20 hours.
The battery performance of the Watch GT seems to be very impressive since the Huawei Watch 2 could last for up to 2 days with general use. The Watch 2 features a 420mAh battery, but the FCC documents of the Watch GT has revealed that it is equipped with a slightly smaller 410mAh battery. The probable reason why the Watch GT will be able to deliver better performance is that it could be equipped with all new Snapdragon 3100.
Through the FCC documents, it has been revealed that Watch GT could be coming with other features such as Android Wear OS, 5W wireless charging with USB-C enabled charging pad, GPS and NFC.
