Smartisan Nut R1 Pure White color variant to go on sale in China tomorrow

Smartisan Nut R1, the flagship smartphone from Hammer Technology, was launched in China a couple of months ago. The smartphone was announced in two color options — Carbon Black and Pure White. Although the smartphone is available for purchase in China for quite some time, there’s a supply shortage for the Pure White color variant.

While the Carbon Black color version of the Smartisan Nut R1 was available, the Pure White version recently went on sale in China through JD.com but was sold out pretty quickly. Now, the company has officially revealed that the Smartisan Nut R1 Pure White model will be available for purchase from tomorrow.

The Pure White model of the smartphone will be available in two variants — 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM with 128GB onboard storage. While the 6GB RAM model costs 3,999 Yuan (approx. $604), the 8GB RAM model is priced at 4,499 Yuan, roughly $680.

Get a Powerful Huawei P10 Plus for just $349.99!

The Huawei P10 Plus was released quite some time ago and it used to cost over $700. As usual, phones get a lot cheaper over the time making them a great value. The P10 Plus is a great example. You can now get it for just $349.99 but it offers a premium design, flagship-grade Leica cameras and great specs.

VIDEO REVIEW

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxoxIYcgbew[/embedyt]

The P10 Plus has a nice 5.5″ display with nice and saturated colours, great brightness output,  Gorilla Glass 5 for scratch resistance and finally, a pretty good sunlight legibility.

I love how nicely the phone sits in the hand due to rounded edges on the back and all-aluminum housing that is smooth to the touch and it does not attract fingerprints or smudges like the glass-made phones.

When it comes to the camera, the Huawei upgraded its Leica-branded dual camera system by using the latest 20MP monochrome sensor, which is mainly used to capture sharper detail. Also, there is another 12MP shooter, which is essentially used to capture colors.

The camera system has the OIS, dual tone dual LED flash and finally, the cameras use bright f/1.8 aperture Leica lens. This is a slight upgrade over the regular P10, which has f/.2.2 lens.

As far as selfie camera, Huawei also cooperated with Leica and as a result, we have an improved 8MP selfie shooter with a bright f/1.9 aperture lens.  We also have a notification LED light on the top.

As far as specs go, the Huawei P10 Plus comes with the home-brewed HiSilicon Kirin 960 chipset. Also, my top tier model has  128GB of expandable storage and 6GB of RAM.

You can also opt in for a cheaper variant that has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, just like the regular P10.

The Huawei P10 Plus has a 3750mAh battery that can be fully charged in about 1 h and 10 mins with the supplied fast charger.

All in all, the Huawei P10 Plus offers a lot of value for the price of just $349.99.

Samsung opens world’s largest smartphone factory in India to boost production

Samsung, the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer, has opened a new factory in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, which is touted as the world’s largest mobile factory. It will be officially inaugrated today by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon.

The factory, located in Sector 81 in Noida, now has a double production capacity of 120 million mobile devices a month. This comes at a time when smartphone users in the country are about to touch the 340 million mark by the end of this year.

Samsung

The company is aiming to increase the overall production capacity by 50 percent, which is currently at 10 percent. Last year, in June 2017, the South Korean giant had announced Rs 4,915 crore investment to expand the new Noida plant. In just about an year of the announcement, Samsung’s Noida plant is all-ready to double production.

Samsung is not only aiming to double its mobile phone production but other consumer electronics products as well, such as refrigerators and flat panel televisions. In 2007, the existing Noida plant started manufacturing mobile phones.

A company official said that “the new unit has come up on an additional 35 acres adjacent to the current facility. It will double the production capacity of both mobile phones and refrigerators. The components will be assembled in Noida facility. There will be some labour-intensive functions, which will generate a number of jobs. Besides, the unit will also give rise to ancillary companies in the city.”

In the year 2012, Samsung became the leader in mobile phones in India. Today, Samsung is among the top mobile brands in India and with the new Noida plant Samsung is expecting to expand its mobile business in India.

Xiaomi Stock Drops on its first day of Hong Kong IPO debut

Xiaomi has made a less than impressive start on the Hong Kong stock market after its stock dropped on the first day of trading. The company’s shares fell below 2% of the IPO listing price today, after trading at just HK$16.60 (US $2.12) instead of the listing price of HK$17 (US $2.17). In comparison, Hong Kong Exchange’s Hang Seng Index (HSI) was up by around 1.5% today.

Lei Jun at HKE
Lei Jun at HKE (Source: Weibo)

It’s clearly not the start that Xiaomi would have hoped for. The company had priced its IPO at $17, the lowest figure in its range of $17-$22 that it had set earlier. Xiaomi reveals that it managed to raise around HK$23.97 billion, which comes to around US $3.05 billion. This IPO valued the company at around $54 billion, much lower than earlier expectations. A while back, there were rumours about an $80 billion valuation too, so this figure is indeed quite low.

Xiaomi’s less than impressive start could be attributed to investors sentiments towards the company’s valuation figures and its ability to generate profits. Although Xiaomi calls itself as an internet company, many analysts believe that it is still a hardware company. Further, majority of the company sales is concentrated on the low-end market where there is very little room for profits.

xiaomi-logo

Another big reason for Xiaomi’s bad start could be because of the rising tensions between China and the US. Stocks in Hong Kong and Shanghai have taken hits with the former market’s benchmark index falling by over 10% as compared to early June. So the macroeconomic condition wasn’t really favourable for an IPO of a big company like Xiaomi.

Xiaomi’s IPO takes the total to $7 billion in new offerings in Hong Kong this year. The company became the first one to list under the new rule that permits dual class of shares on the Hong Kong market.

Honor 7S Review – A Beautiful Budget Smartphone

This is the Huawei Honor 7s – the latest budget phone from Honor that costs about $150. As usual, let’s take a look at all the pros and cons of this device in our full Honor 7S review.

VIDEO

UNBOXING

The phone ships with all the usual stuff, no extras included.

DESIGN and DISPLAY

When it comes to design, the Honor 7s is kind of a plain looking phone. The overall build quality is pretty good but the phone is made entirely of plastic, which reminds you this is a budget device after all. We do have 18:9 aspect ratio display which is nice and sharp but it could be brighter for outdoor use. On the top of the display, you can find a 5MP selfie shooter, LED notification light and LED flash for night selfies. There is also a loudspeaker that sounds quite well for a budget phone. Here is an audio sample.

On the back, there is a single camera system. However, the phone lacks a fingerprint scanner and there is no face ID feature, which is really frustrating.

Other features you need to know: the phone has 2 sim card slots and a dedicated SD card slot for storage expansion. Also, the device uses an outdated micro USB port for charging.

HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

On paper, the Honor 7S does not look really impressive and honestly, I wish it had at least 3GB of RAM.

Gaming performance is kind of average. That means that you will be able to play most of the 3D games but you should expect to see quite a few skipped frames and stutter. Also, there is a major bug in the Pubg game as you can’t even see your player. That’s really frustrating.

USER INTERFACE

The phone runs on the EMUI 8.0 that is based on Android 8.1. If you have used any Huawei device before, you will feel right at home. There is no app tray but you can easily bring it back. Just like any Huawei phone, there are plenty of features and customization options to choose from. There are many display settings, smart features, you can choose between different navigation ways and so on.

I am quite disappointed with the overall performance. The phone feels a bit laggy and there is quite a bit of stutter when you are doing just the basic tasks. I hope the performance can be improved with the future software updates.

IMAGE QUALITY

Daylight images look quite good for the budget phone although I wish they had more detail. As usual, camera collapses in low light as the pictures look quite grainy.

Selfies do not impress either as they usually come out soft. The selfie LED flash does not really help in low light.

1080p video quality is above average but the phone lacks basic features like continuous auto-focus.

1080p selfie video is not the sharpest out there but it’s pretty good for a budget phone. Also, the sound recording quality is decent.

CONNECTIVITY

In terms of connectivity, this Huawei phone is good. Call quality and signal reception have been great, GPS is accurate and other connectivity options work fine.

However, I’m very disappointed that there is no gyroscope sensor meaning that the phone does not support 360 content.

BATTERY LIFE

Battery life has been great. My record screen-on time was about 7 hours and my usage involved taking a lot of pictures, using the phone for social media and a bit of gaming. However, there is a software bug that shows the screen-on time incorrectly. For example, it may show that the screen-on time is just 15 mins even though you’ve been using the phone for an entire day.

Also, it takes about 2h to fully charge the phone with the supplied charger, which is not the best result.

CONCLUSIONS

The Honor 7S offers quite a lot for the price but it also has quite a few flaws to consider.

The phone feels kind of cheap as it is made of plastic, the spec sheet does not impress, the overall performance is mediocre, there is no gyroscope sensor, there is no fingerprint scanner and the phone uses a micro USB port.

On a positive note, you get a phone with a good 18:9 display, decent camera for daylight shots, good battery life and you get some extra features like LED notification light and LED flash for night selfies.

At the end of the day, the Honor 7s does offer quite a lot of value for the price but it has quite a few shortcomings you need to know too.

Xiaomi Mi Max 3: another leaked video shows the Gold version

Two days ago, a leaked video showing the Black version of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 surfaced online. After that one, another video showing the Gold variant has popped up as well. In this video, we can see the design of the upcoming phablet way better than in the other one thanks to the lighter hue. For this handset, Xiaomi has decided not to opt for the most premium design. It features a classic full metal unibody design with a circular fingerprint reader placed on the back, while the antenna bands are U-shaped and placed along the upper and the lower border.

The rear side of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 also houses a dual camera setup placed in a vertical configuration with a LED flash in the middle like the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The front side is white and it includes a tall display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and no notch. Bezels are not so narrow and the screen-to-body ratio is similar to the one of the Redmi Note 5/5 Pro. But unlike those ones, this device will be the biggest phablet from the Chinese giant. Just like the other video, a sticker placed on the display shows some of the main specs of the device.

According to the sticker, Xiaomi Mi Max 3 will have a huge 6.9-inch display and a massive battery with a 5500 mAh capacity. There will also be a dual camera with the same resolutions as the Redmi Note 5: 12 and 5 MP respectively. According to latest leaks, the device will come in a standard version and a Pro version. The first one will boast an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, while the second will have a higher-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 710. The RAM should go from 3 GB to 6 GB (3, 4 or 6 sizes), while the internal storage should be 32GB, 64 GB or 128 GB depending on the configuration.

Vivo X21i Night Purple gradient hue released, costs 2598 Yuan

Releasing new color variants of latest devices has become a common practice among smartphones manufacturers. Vivo X21i, was made official back in May, and has now been announced in a new color variant called Night Purple and the new version has been launched in the Chinese market. The new variant features a gradient hue starts from blue on the lower part of the handset and turns into purple on the upper one. The color looks very impressive and reminds of the Aurora gradient hues of the latest Huawei and Honor flagships, but it is not exactly the same.

The Night Purple color is on the backplate and the frame, while the front panel of Vivo X21i in this new color variant is black. It has been made available with a price tag of CNY 2598 which roughly translates into $390 dollars. Both the materials and the specs sheet remain exactly the same as the standard version, but note that this variant is only available in the configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, while if you need the one with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB ROM you have to go for the other color variants.

Vivo X21i’s design is composed of a glass back and an aluminum frame and it has a wide 6.28-inch display with a notch, a 19:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. On the hardware side, it packs an octa-core Helio P60 chipset by MediaTek which can run at a max frequency of 2 GHz (both the Cortex A73 and Cortex A53 clusters can reach the same frequency). The main camera is a dual setup with 12 and 5 MP resolutions, f/1.8 and f/2.0 apertures, while the secondary front camera features 24 MP. At last, there is a moderate battery with a capacity of 3400 mAh and Android 8.1 Oreo is installed out of the box.
