The company also hinted at plans to integrate the Mi Home store and after-sale service center in the future in order to bring the after-sales services closer to fans.

Lu Weibing also hinted at the Redmi Note 11 series launch that the company has already expanded the number of its brick and mortar stores to cover over 2,200 counties. This represents 80% of the entire counties in China. This is in keeping up with the company’s goal of opening at least a Mi Store in every of China’s counties.

The former is an advanced chimney while the latter is a smart stove.

The set supports operations using nothing but air gestures. These gestures let you perform all sorts of actions including turning the machine off with a simple wave of the hands, without the need for touching the devices themselves.

The set is equipped with dual infrared sensors that accurately track a user’s movements. The Range Hood S1 chimney can be powered on by a right swipe, its power can be adjusted by swiping right further, and swiping left turns it off.

The chimney is fairly wide at 900mm and covers both of the stoves, making it capable of capturing all of the smoke being produced by cooking. Its built-in motor has a maximum speed of 1010RPM and the diameter of its rotor stands at 256mm. It produces a suction force of 21m3/min.

As for the Mijia gas stove, it can output at 4500W and has high thermal efficiency. Its temperature can be adjusted from the usual 180°, all the way up to 230°.

The stove and the chimney from the Mi Home (Mijia) Smoke Stove Set S1 work automatically in harmony, with the chimney turning on automatically as soon as it detects smoke. Its suction power too is dynamic and follows the temperature the stove has been set at.

The set will be launching Friday at a retail price of around 2598 Yuan (~$403).

This store opening marks a milestone for the brand as it is the 5000th Mi Home store. Another interesting fact about this new store is that it is the first to wear the new Xiaomi logo.

The Mi Home will play host to a number of new products including the Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Ultra, and Redmi K40 that was unveiled recently. the company is also promising some discounts to patrons as part of activities to mark the store’s opening.

The Mi Home flagship store has been a crucial part of brand Xiaomi’s success. The resurgence of the brand post-2015 could be traced to the drive to create Mi Home in many cities, bringing its products closer to fans. The rapid proliferation of the experience store is surprising, though. As of 2017, Xiaomi had just 100 Mi Home stores in China and had plans to push the number to 200 stores. By December 2020, the company announced the opening of the 1000th Mi Home store in China. How the brand pushed that number to 5000 stores within such a short period beats our imagination. That means a total of 4000 stores were opened in the last three months. The brand reportedly opened 1,000 Mi Homes in China in January this year.

The study showed that the Mi Home store was the first choice for an exciting experience overall across several customer satisfaction parameters captured in the survey questionnaire.

Respondents were asked to rate their satisfaction on the various measurement criteria, and the percentages were computed for each parameter across the exclusive smartphone retail stores in India.

The Unomer study titled: “Smartphone Retail CSAT Benchmarking Research Report” aims to measure customer satisfaction across a broad spectrum of India’s leading smartphone exclusive retailers, including Xiaomi, Samsung, Oppo, Apple, and several others. Some of the customer satisfaction parameters captured in the study were the physical layout, purchase financing options available, the fluidity of the checkout system, and staff knowledge, among others.

The Mi Home stores had an average rating of about 62% in staff knowledge criteria, billing/ checkout process, and financing options, which were the highest among the surveyed exclusive retail stores. Xiaomi has seen remarkable progress since it first established its Mi Home stores in India, and it now has 75 of such stores spread across 19 cities across the subcontinent.

In his response to the UNOMER report, an executive of Xiaomi India, Sunil Baby expressed joy at the report, putting the Mi Home stores as the best premium exclusive smartphone store in India. He said the Mi brand would continue to pursue excellence in all its ramifications and continue to provide satisfaction to its teeming customers across India. Baby stressed that the Mi Home stores have a unique architectural design and were constructed using eco-friendly materials, which combine with the excellent staff and products to give a unique experience for its teeming Indian customers.

Xiaomi has assured that it will continue to strive to maintain and even exceed expectations in the high standards it has set for itself.

The global lockdown that forced millions to stay at home has altered the way people interact and live in their homes, driving people to reconfigure their physical space to meet new functional demands and convergence of the workspace with the home space. Even students had to undertake their studies from home, and homes were transformed to a sort of one-stop functional environment with all the needed facilities for work, study, exercise, and entertainment.

According to the survey, 60% of the respondents said that it was very difficult to derive joy at home because of the forced merging of their leisure and work environments. About 63% of the respondents had to purchase one or more smart home devices, while 82% reconfigured a part of their homes for work activities during the COVID-19 lockdown, and 79% reconfigured one or more rooms.

Editor’s Pick: Huawei Mate X2′ launch reported to have been postponed

Daniel Desjarlais, Global Product Marketing Manager of Xiaomi, in his comments on the insights from the survey, stressed that the goal of smart living has always been about optimizing the physical space to provide smart solutions to problems and new realities using technology as a vehicle for such changes, which was accelerated by the global pandemic.

Going further, Desjarlais said that connected homes, automated systems, and new technology are presently catalyzing the creation of new ecosystems within the home to solve new problems and challenges of staying for longer periods at home.

The survey results showed that makeshift spacing arrangements were widespread across all age groups, with 66% of respondents saying that they were forced to adapt their homes to incorporate a makeshift office space in response to staying home more during the pandemic. This was more pronounced among Gen-Z and Millennials — 91% of Gen Z consumers and 80% of Millennials indicated this was something they were forced to do.

The demand for smart home devices which reflected in the number of purchases as a result of the respondents’ perception that these devices offered solutions to some stated home challenges. An average of two smart home devices was purchased by the respondents during the period of lockdown, while the Gen-Z segment had purchased an average of three devices.

The survey also showed that a majority of respondents who had purchased smart home devices plan to continue using such devices beyond the pandemic era, and would be willing to upgrade such devices if another lockdown comes up in 2021.
The adoption and integration of smart home solutions will be a prevailing trend as consumers look to smart devices for efficiency and succor.

Smart devices from a sports watch to a smart speaker provide opportunities for coping with the new normal in leisure and fitness as you can enjoy your favorite exercise at home as well as watch a cinema movie using the array of smart devices available. Smart ecosystems also help in the automation of routine daily tasks, thereby improving productivity and efficiency. Smart home devices will therefore continue to grow in relevance beyond the pandemic era.

Xiaomi is fast becoming a global front-runner in smart devices and continues to expand its lineup to different segments of the smart devices market.

This is the company’s Biggest TV by-far in the country. After multiple sales across its online channels, Xiaomi is finally ready to let users experience the 98-inch madness in a store and buy it offline.

As Mydrivers reports, Xiaomi‘s Mi Home Weibo has shared an official post regarding the arrival of the TV. Accordingly, Xiaomi will open a new Mi Shenyang Changbai Wanxianghui store on December 12 in China. The Mi Home store will be located in Shenyang city, northeast Liaoning Province of the country. Anyway, at the launch, the company says it will unveil the Redmi Smart TV MAX 98-inch for the first time in an offline store.

If you recall, the company, despite announcing the TV two weeks back, launched the 98-inch TV only on 9th April, 2020 in China. Priced at 19,999 yuan($3054), the TV was available for sale online via Xiaomi Mall and official website. Now, after about eight-months of sale, the company seems to be bringing it to the offline market as well.

That said, the improvement in sales could have made the company push it for the offline segment. To be precise, the company first sold over 1,500 units in less than 11 hours back in June. Later, it followed this trend with another 1,600 unit sales in a single day. Having said that, we need to wait and see how Xiaomi manages to attract the offline audience to buy this humongous TV.

Coming back, Xiaomi says the new Store will also include gifts for people who buy the Redmi Smart TV MAX 98-inch. One such is the Redmi Note 9 as per the company’s post. However, it’s unclear if the gift will be a 4G or one of the 5G versions. Additionally, there are other surprise gifts as well but they are supposed to be limited.

The Redmi Smart TV MAX 98-inch is as tall as the company’s founder Lei Jun. The TV is huge and complex to build as well. Consequently, installing the TV at your home also requires a special professional team. Some of the notable features include a 98-inch 4K UHD display panel(LCD) that has 85% NTSC color gamut, 192 dynamic backlight zones, MEMC motion compensation, custom Amlogic T972 SoC with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, and more image quality tuning technology.

Xiaomi has its iconic Mi Home stores opened in 25 cities across China, including Haikou, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Jiaozuo, including 13 in Chongqing and 15 in Shaanxi. Currently, there are six Mi Homes in Chengdu. As of the end of 2019, the number of Mi Homes in Mainland China has exceeded 630.

The Mi Home is the official retail experience store directly operated by Xiaomi, which can provide users with services such as product sales, self-pickup, and laser engraving. In addition, Xiaomi Home can provide consumers with humanized services, including a stress-free return policy within 7 days without any reason (Xiaomi core retail stores), valet repair (Xiaomi products are delivered to the store, and the clerk will send it to the after-sales center. After repairing, send it back to the designated place), valet orders (for large repairs, you can find a clerk in the store to make an order, and the engineer makes an appointment to visit) and other services.

At the Redmi Note 9 series conference last month, Lu Weibing, Vice President of Xiaomi Group, President of China, and General Manager of Redmi Brand, said that in the coming year, every county will have a Xiaomi home and every Mi fan will have Xiaomi around his/her home.

The current Mi Homes are mainly deployed in first, second, and third-tier cities. For counties, towns, or remote areas, the number of Mi Homes is very small. Previously, Lu Weibing stated that the coverage of Mi Homes in the county-level market is less than 30%. In the future, Xiaomi plans to accelerate expansion into the county-level market. Within one year, Mi Home will cover every county in the country.

More Xiaomi homes mean that consumers will experience Xiaomi’s better and more convenient purchase or after-sales service. Sadly, there are not so many Xiaomi Home stores outside China. Xiaomi already has over 1000 service centers across 600 cities in India but the experience stores are still scanty.

It seems that the company will also be offering the installation service for free and in that case, the customer only needs to prepare the curtain after placing the order. While users can manually choose to open or close the curtains, it can also be done automatically based on the sunlight.

Similar to all the other smart home products from the company, this one too can be controlled using the Mi Home application as well as voice commands, thanks to the support for XiaoAI smart assistant.

The company says that the curtains can be operated manually as well, in a situation when there’s a power cut. The DC motor used makes noise of less than 30db, says Xiaomi. It comes with a 1.5 meters long power cord and is rated at 20W.

Expanding its portfolio of offerings, the company has today announced that it will launch Xiaomi Mijia Photo Printer on 19th December in China.

In the image released by the company, we can see that the small-sized printer features the same form-factor as the regular printers. However, just like other consumer electronics products from Xioami, this one too features a minimal design.

On the top part, it comes with just a single button for turning the printer ON/OFF. There’s also an indicator that shows the Wi-Fi connectivity of the printer. On the right side, there’s a cartridge compartment.

While nothing more related to the upcoming Xiaomi Mijia Photo Printer in known, it seems that the printer will support printing photos of up to 6-inch. The IoT-powered printer’s built-in printing mode is expected to include ID Card, Polaroid Mode, Postcard Mode, among others.

This won’t be the first printer from Xioami as the Chinese company had launched the Xiaomi XPRINT Pocket AR Photo Printer earlier this year in February. Priced at 399 Yuan (approximately $58), it prints 54 x 86 mm photos with a 291 x 294 resolution.

Similar printers are priced between 700 Yuan (~$102) and 1,000 Yuan (~$145) in the Chinese market but given that the upcoming printer is coming from Xioami, we are expecting a more affordable pricing, something around 500 Yuan (approximately $73). However, to know for sure what the company offers with this Xiaomi Mijia Photo Printer and its pricing, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement at 02:30 PM in China on 19th December.

One way Xiaomi is trying to use to maintain its grip of the market is creating a balance between its online and offline sales models. Xiaomi presently has several Mi Home stores spread acro the various cities in India. However, the company has just opened what is definitely its largest Mi Home store in India and Banglore has the honour of being the host city of the store.

The brick and mortar store is located in the prominent Indiranagar area of Bangalore. The entire building occupies an area spanning across 6000 sq. ft. and covering two floors. The store is replete with numerous Xiaomi products which have been launched for the Indian market. It is also the finest Mi Home in terms of retail design grandeur. The building itself adopts a modern architectural design while the product stands are designed with a futuristic concept. However, since the focus is going to be on the products on display, it utilises a minimalist approach of white and grey colour coating on all surfaces. The building showcases unique, edgy patterns and is constructed using eco-friendly materials. The new Mi Home is also equipped with special solar-powered charging stations as part of the brand’s effort to implement pro-environment measures.

Apart from products that are available in India, the home store is detailed to have the largest experience zone with a collection of over 200 experience products that are sold globally. Some of the cool gadgets fans can have a feel of in the experience zone include the Mi Robot vacuum, Mi Smart Washing Machine, and Mi Smart Laser Projector. There are also several products ranging from smart home, smart travel to fitness and personal wellness sections.
This move was expected since the POCO F1 recently went on open sale via Mi.com as well as Flipkart.com. As the POCO F1 stocks have become relatively stable, it makes sense for the company to make the phone available to offline customers too, which still account for a major chunk of the Indian smartphone market.

Note that POCO F1 will be slightly costlier in offline stores. We don’t have an official figure yet but the slight increase in price is to offset the additional operational costs incurred in retail stores. The company has also not revealed whether all the variants and colors will be up for sale via its Mi Store. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow for more details.

To recap, the POCO F1 comes with Snapdragon 845 and 8GB RAM with LiquidCool technology. The phone has one of the best price to specs ratio in the market which makes it a good purchase option during the Diwali festival season in India.

The aim of this experience store is to showcase products from the company that has not been launched in India, and not just the products that have been launched in India. The China-based company says that it is on track to open its 100th store in India by the end of this year.

Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India’s MD and Xiaomi’s Global Vice President said, “think of this as a flagship Mi Home, where we will show not just the products that we have already launched in India, but also the ones that we want to bring to the market.”

This new Mi Home Experience Store in Chennai is divided into three parts – the first showcases products such as the Ninebot Plus “hoverboard”, and the Mi Robot Builder. The second part showcases different phones that the company is selling and products such as the Mi Air Purifier. The third part again shows products that are not yet available in India, such as the company’s laptops, its rice cooker, and water purifier, among others.

Manu Kumar Jain adds, “most people think of Xiaomi as only a phone brand, but actually, there are a host of products that we have that are not being sold in India. We have a portable air purifier that you can take in a car, smart scooters, laptops, robot vacuum cleaners, our electric toothbrush, and more.”

According to Xiaomi, the idea behind showcasing these products to Indian consumers is to gauge interest in bringing them to the country and to work out how to customize these products to make them successful in India.

The company is also planning to open at least one Mi Home Experience Store in the major cities of India, and after Chennai, the next two planned cities are Delhi and Mumbai. In India, the company has recently launched Mi Smart LED TV 4 and two new smartphones — Redmi Note 5 and the Note 5 Pro.

The tech giant was able to achieve this feat using online sales via Mi.com, Flipkart and Amazon India together with offline sales using the numerous franchise partner stores it has in various cities of the country. The Chinese company is now reported to be planning to open its own Mi Home stores in various cities which would stock its products exclusively.

Xiaomi presently has 23 Mi Home stores and over 1500 Mi preferred stores across several cities in India but the Mi Home stores are owned by Franchisees and managed by Xiaomi. Prevailing regulations in India had prevented foreign companies from solely owning single-brand retail stores in the country. The regulation allows for 49 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in single-brand retail channels. That law has now been relaxed by the Indian government as from January this year, thus paving the way for OEMs to run fully-owned branded stores.

Read Also: Xiaomi’s New Subsidiary Reportedly Working On Gaming Smartphones

According to a recent disclosure by Manu Jain, CEO of Xiaomi India, the company is set to catch in on this latest development by establishing self-owned Mi Home retail stores across major cities and towns in India. In a recent interview with Times of India, Mr Jain stated that the move will begin as the year progresses. Good thing is, the company does not need to go through government approvals before doing so. A recent report by IDC estimated that Xiaomi sold more than 2 million units through its offline channels last year. The offline sale is mainly driven by the offline expansion of its Mi stores and preferred retail partners. With this development, Xiaomi can now replicate the success achieved by its Mi Home stores in China and could help it further shore up sales via the offline sales channel. The move will mainly favour other products like the recently launched Mi LED TV 4 Smart TV which ordinarily sells mainly via offline retail stores.

The XPRINT Pocket AR Photo Printer is its 153rd crowdfunded item and it does more than just print pictures.

Lately we have seen manufacturers release pocket printers as a way to bring back the instant cameras that reigned decades ago since most people now take pictures with their phones.

The XPRINT Pocket AR Photo Printer adds a mix to its own pictures. When you take a picture (with the dedicated app I presume), you can also record a short video. The app then “integrates” the video into the photo before printing.

When you want to view the printed photo later, all you have to do is point your phone’s camera at the picture and it will play the recorded video. Xiaomi says the app recognizes the photo in just 0.28 seconds and has a tracking speed of 120 frames per seconds.

The printer connects to your device via Bluetooth or NFC and works with devices running Android 5.0 and above or iOS 9.0 and up. It comes in white and measures 133 x 80 x 27mm and weighs 237g without the photo tray and 268g with the photo tray. It has a 650mAh battery capacity and thankfully can be recharged with a power bank.

The XPRINT Pocket AR Photo Printer prints 54 x 86 mm photos with a 291 x 294 resolution. The printer is priced at ¥399 (~$63) and the photo paper is priced at ¥39.9 (~$6) with 20pcs/pack. The printer itself can take 10 paper films at a time.

The printer has already surpassed its crowdfunding target and is scheduled to start shipping on March 12, 2018.

That move is gradually paying off with the latest surge in sales revenue. But Xiaomi is known for its innovativeness and they have taken the Mi Home store to an entirely new level with the launch of a concept flagship Mi Home store in China where all the tech giant’s products are sold.

The new Mi Home store is the first of its kind and is located in the city of Shenzhen, the same city where Xiaomi has got its headquarters. The store is a flagship store and is the first of many that would be opened in other cities soon. The Mi Home combines old-fashioned retail with internet plus and new retail strategy. The first thing that stands it out is its sheer size. It is a huge two-floor store measuring 650 square meters. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece designed by Eight Inc. Xiami says the designer Tim Kobe is one of the brains behind the minimalistic glass cube Apple store in New York’s 5th Avenue.

You’ll be mistaken if you think this is just another replication or imitation of APple’s concept. The flagship Mi Home goes beyond, as it has a rich lineup of products including Xiaomi’s smartphones and also the Mi Ecosystem products such as Mi Sphere camera, Mi Robot Vacuum, Mi Powerbank, Smart Bike, and hundreds of others. The ground floor is where you’ll find the smartphones and Mi Ecosystem products while the second-floor stocks smart home concept products under its newly created Youpin e-commerce platform. Youpin originally only sold smart furniture and home furnishings from Xiaomi’s ecological chain via the Mijia app and all products sold under Youpin can be gotten on the second floor. It should be noted that not all the products sold on the platform are manufactured by Xiaomi or Xiaomi Ecosystem company. The flagship store has an electronic board where all products are displayed and information about the products can be gotten just with a touch of the screen.

Related: Xiaomi to Soon Open Mi Home Store in Greece

So, perhaps you happen to be in China, you could check out the Mi Home store in Shenzhen. Apart from opening up more stores in China, we hope Xiaomi takes this model outside China where most of its products besides smartphones are well sort after.

With this new development, Xiaomi has hinted that the total number of Mi Stores in China has crossed the 200 stores mark. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun had hinted of the company’s plans to open over 200 Mi Home Stores in China this year several months back. That feat has now been achieved well before the end of the year, springing up the possibility of more stores joining before the year finally runs out.

The 20 new stores were opened on October 1 which is the National Day of the People’s Republic of China and a public holiday. Expectedly, the stores’ opening, recorded huge turnouts in all the cities where they were sited. Except for some cities where the Mi Store is making its debut for the first time, some cities have more than one like Zhengzhou which is getting its fourth Mi Store. The latest development brings the total number of Mi Stores in China to over 300.

Xiaomi has achieved some progress so far in its bid to make its product accessible to its numerous customers who often experience difficulty getting their choice products due to an online-only model the company had been operating. The tech giant plans to open 1000 physical stores in different Chinese cities by the year 2020. The company also aims to open more Mi Stores outside of China. This strategy is meant to complement the online sales channels already in effect. Apart from smartphones, Xiaomi also stocks its wide range of Smart home products like its smart fitness bands, smart scooters, smart air purifiers, water purifier, internet-of-things and more, all in a bid to expand its ecosystem and shore up its revenue. Already, the results are looking promising, with the company climbing into the top 5 spots in global smartphone shipments in Q2 2017 and is set to hit its 70 million smartphone target for this year this October, two months before the year’s end.

This was made known by the company’s senior vice president global, Wang Xiang in an interview with CNBC. Some of the shops will be opened in partnership with private investors while some others will be owned and operated by Xiaomi.

The decision to bring in investors is part of the company’s big ambitions to spread its tentacles outside China. The Xiaomi senior VP projects that in the next few years, the tech company will become a global player as they hope to enter almost every country. This is one good news for fans who have been yearning for Xiaomi’s physical presence outside China.

Xiaomi showed prospects when it first started shipping smartphones in 2010. The online flash sale model adopted proved to be an instant success and it soon got adopted by other companies. The inability to meet demand and a faulty supply chain both contributed to the decline in gross sales over the last few years. But the company is poised to reverse this trend by expanding into new markets and going offline. Going offline entails opening up 1000 physical stores in different Chinese cities by the year 2020. Already, the company has opened about 100 Mi Home stores in different Chinese cities and there are more on the way. This strategy is meant to complement the e-commerce strategy already in effect.

The Xiaomi VP also disclosed that the company is looking to focus more on China’s South East Asian neighbours like the Philippines and also eastern Europe. Already, Xiaomi has made inroads into countries like Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, and even has manufacturing facilities in India and Indonesia.

Read More: Xiaomi’s 100th Mi Home Store in China Opens

Apart from smartphones, Xiaomi will also be making available its wide range of Smart home products outside of China like its smart fitness bands, smart scooters, smart air purifiers, water purifier, internet-of-things and more, all in a bid to expand its ecosystem and shore up its revenue. Already, the results are looking promising, as Xiaomi disclosed last week that it recorded more than 23 million smartphone shipments in Q2 2017. The ultimate target is to ship more than 100 million smartphones next year and with a wider presence as well as improved production, that figure could well be surmounted.

On May 20, the Chinese firm generated a massive revenue of Rs. 5 crore (~$775K) within 12 hours through the offline sales of various Xiaomi devices in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

The offline sale was conducted at the Xiaomi’s first Mi Home store in India located at Phoenix City, Bengaluru. Over 10,000 Mi fans from 10 different states arrived at the Mi Store to be a part of this milestone achievement of the company.

Xiaomi could generate such a huge revenue through the sales of various Xiaomi devices such as Redmi 4, Redmi 4A, Redmi Note 4, Mi VR Play, Mi Air Purifier 2, Mi Router 3C and Mi Band 2. No other smartphone company has managed to achieve such a milestone in the country. The Chinese firm revealed that the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A accounted for major sales among other Xiaomi products.

Manu Jain, the Vice President and Managing Director of Xiaomi said,” It was an extremely emotional day for all of us at the opening of our first Mi Home store. I am humbled by the unprecedented outpouring of love from all our Mi Fans who started lining up from 8 AM in the morning. I had a fun filled day with spending time with our fans, billing at the counters for our customers, entertaining people standing in queue and answering multiple queries at Mi Home. Never did I imagine that with every passing hour we were quietly creating history in the Indian retail market.”

Xiaomi has previously said that it will be opening 100 Mi Home stores across the country including major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. With the launch of these offline stores, Xiaomi aims to increase the offline sales of its devices. An additional zone will be available in select Mi Home stores for experiencing more Xiaomi devices.

After becoming part of the “Make in India” program of the Indian Government, the Chinese firm launched its second manufacturing unit in the country at Andhra Pradesh. The factory that has been launched in partnership with Foxconn will make it possible for the company to manufacture 95 percent of smartphones that will be sold in the country. The company claims that the new plant is capable of producing one phone per second.

A recent survey carried out by IDC revealed that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was the most shipped smartphone in the first quarter of this year. With a market share of 29.3, Xiaomi now stands as the number one smartphone brand in the online market in India.

Among them, the company has a few Wi-Fi extenders as well and the Mi Powerline Wi-Fi homeplug would be one of the easiest gadgets out there to extend your Wi-Fi range.

I recently got my hands on the Mi Powerline Wi-Fi Homeplug starter kit, which contains one host and an extender with dual antennas. Now, I call it a starter kit because you can actually add up to 7 extenders to one single host at a time, making sure that your Wi-Fi network runs throughout your home. But this starter kit contains just one extender and you will have to buy more extenders separately. One of the highlights of the extenders is that it comes with an RJ45 slot as well, so if you have a desktop PC without a Wi-Fi adapter, you can easily use one of these extenders to connect to the central Wi-Fi.

You can currently get the Mi Powerline Wi-Fi Homeplug Kit from Gearbest at around $56.99.

What’s Inside The Box?

Like all Xiaomi boxes, the Mi Powerline Wi-Fi Homeplug extender kit comes in a simple white package. Like I mentioned above, you get two separate devices inside the box — one host that connects to the router and one extender with dual antennas and support for up to 300Mbps. The back of the box contains basic instructions as well as the specifications of the extender.

Inside the box, the two devices are neatly placed in their respective slots with a manual (only in Chinese) at the center. That’s all there’s to it. So, let’s move on to how it works.

Mi Powerline Wi-Fi Extender Setup

The setup is pretty straightforward and easy. In fact, I could start and connect to the extended Wi-Fi network in just a couple of minutes of unboxing.

Connect the host device (the one without the antennas) to a power socket and then to your existing router using the RJ45 connector. Now, connect the extender (one with the dual antennas) to a socket in the room where your router network is patchy. You’ll see a yellow light blinking on both the devices which means they are yet connected. Soon, they’ll turn blue and you’ll see that both the devices have a constant blue light, which means the extender is now connected and working. Just browse through the Wi-Fi networks available and you’ll see Xiaomi’s own network. You can change the name as well as the password by downloading the Mi Home App.

Mi Wi-fi Extender On A Different Socket (Status: Connected)

Once setup, you can plug in the extender to any nearby socket to extend your existing Wi-Fi network.

Mi Powerline Wi-Fi Extender Review

Since the setup was pretty simple, all I had to do was to check whether the extended Xiaomi Wi-Fi network was as fast as my original network (in areas of good connectivity) as well as whether I could get consistent high speed. In both these areas, the new extended network managed to excel.

So, I plugged in the Wi-Fi extender a couple of rooms away from where my original TP-Link router was placed. First, I checked the strength of the original router network, which was low as there are multiple walls in between, reducing the signal coverage. When I was just beside my router, Speedtest revealed my speed to be around 12Mbps. That dipped down to around 4-5 Mbps when I was two rooms away.

But once I plugged in the extender and connected to the new Wireless network created by the device, I could easily get around 11-12Mbps speed on the same test. While the difference in speeds on the test might not be significant, there is a considerable difference in browsing and download speeds in the other room. Before getting this Mi Powerline Wi-Fi extender, I was using an old router for boosting my signal in that room, but I had to set it all up on the old router which took some time. This is a much simpler, better looking and quicker method of extending your Wi-fi signal.

I have not talked about the design much, but note that the white finish and the handy form factor, along with the plesant LED colors for notifying the connection makes sure that the extender kit will look good in any house.

Check out some more images of the Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi homeplug Extender Kit Below.

[envira-gallery id="131162"]

Overall, I am happy with this kit and the fact that I can easily get hold of more extenders to improve my Wi-Fi coverage is definitely an added plus.

The Mi Home Stores will provide an alternative other than the official online store for those who wish to purchase Xiaomi’s wide range of products. Items like air purifiers, water filters, TVs, rice cookers, and most important, smartphones will be available at these stores. The stores should also serve as a drop off point for faulty items.

The increase in the number of stores should translate to more sales, especially in the smartphone segment for Xiaomi. One of the company’s goals this year is shifting its over-reliance on online sales to the more traditional physical stores.

Another country that needs lots of Mi Home stores is India, Xiaomi’s second most important market and with a population that closely matches China’s. The company already has two factories there and is planning a third. Most of its sales are carried out online and they are still always in short supply.

Xiaomi’s flagship phone is the Mi 6. It went on sale last week Friday and was out of stock in less than a minute. Hopefully when production ramps up, customers will be able to walk in to Mi Home stores and purchase a unit.

Instead, it has again announced the impending launch of a new product, this time a Mi TV but this isn’t likely a variant of the latest Mi TV 4 but a new one entirely.

The teaser clears doubt as to whether this is a new Mi TV 4 variant, considering that the Mi TV is already in its fourth generation with the TV 4 adopting a ultra-thin modular design. The use of a young child with an attire like those of Super man could mean it is a smaller-sized Mi TV with superb features. The upcoming TV product would be launched on March 21 but the device is open for pre-order on Mi home. Each pre-order comes with an offer of 100 Yuan off the final price when buying.

Read Also: Xiaomi Announces the Modular Mi TV 4 That’s Just 4.9mm Thin!

Although the features of the upcoming Mi TV is not known, it is likely a TV for young people, capable of showing a variety of contents with a comfortable viewing experience. The Mi Tv should also be capable of outputting cool colors. We should be looking at a much smaller Mi TV and a smaller build would definitely translate into a cheaper priced TV. March 21 is the date we’d know more.

The teaser for the Smart guitar launch points at the fact that the guitar will likely be able to teach new learners how to play in just 10 minutes. Although that looks nearly impossible, that is what we can grab from the teaser. The current crop of smart guitars in the market are priced around 1,000-2000 yuan and they come with an app which helps with stuff like metronome timer, auxiliary tuning function etc.

The four products are said to fall under the categories of food, good air, health and innocence. Already, the IH Rice Cooker has been released today priced at 399 Yuan. Also, what is likely a home air quality tester or air purifier had been teased few days back and that would go official on November 2.

Now, a new teaser has been unveiled via the Mi Mijia Weibo page with the theme “building block evolution” and also centered on innocence. The teased poster is that of a colorful set of square and triangular building blocks with a sleek smartphone in sight also. From the look of things, the product is likely a Smart toy and it is likely aimed for the kids, hence the term “innocence”.
