Lenovo S5 Pro stunning camera samples released as launch draws near

Lenovo may soon launch its much-anticipated slider phone which would be called S5 Pro. A date has not been revealed for the official launch but Lenovo’s VP Chang Cheng who has been the source of most of the leaked details about the device has shared some more details about the device. This time around it is the camera samples of the device.

The device will come with two cameras at the rear and from the watermark on the samples, the camera will have artificial intelligence. The samples were shot using the super 2X optical zoom feature. We don’t know the configuration of the camera but for photos shot using 2x zoom, the pictures are quite stunning and come out with vivid clarity. The photos are not in anyway blurred and there is no photographic noise. The photos also preserve the details of the scenes captured, even when visibility is poor. From these samples, we can get an idea of how stunning the S5 Pro camera samples would be without any zoom. We should point out that Mr Cheng shared a teaser suggesting a four-camera setup will be on the device but that may just be another hype.

The specifications of the Lenovo S5 Pro is still not known but the device is expected to feature a full-screen, notch-less display with a high screen ratio. It will also utilise a slider design which would see the selfie camera located on the slider. Lenovo is expected to launch the S5 Pro this October.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 screen protector reveals the phone’s extremely narrow bezels

Xiaomi is all set to launch its fourth smartphone in the Mi Mix series — the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. The company’s president had revealed at IFA Berlin that the phone will launch in October. Recently, an image surfaced online suggesting that the Mi MIX 3 will be launched on 15th October.

Now, a popular Chinese brand for the mobile screen protectors, Blue V@Bangkeshi Benks, has posted an image of Mi MIX 3’s screen protector on Weibo which gives us a hint at the upcoming phone’s front panel.

The image shows that the Mi Mix 3 will come with an extremely narrow bezels and high screen-to-body ratio. Unlike other phones with narrow bezels, the bottom bezel is also extremely narrow. Further, there’s no notch on top of the display, which is in-line with the previous report suggesting that the phone will have a slider mechanism.

The sliding portion on the phone will house the front-facing camera, earpiece and other sensors. However, to know for sure what’s there on the slider and how the sliding mechanism works, we’ll have to wait for the company to announce the phone.

Apart from the full-screen display surrounded by narrow bezels, the phone will be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor, which powers most of the flagship devices launched this year. The phone is also reported to have a dedicated AI assistant button.

Reports indicate that the China-based company has also opted for an in-display fingerprint sensor instead of the traditional one. There could be two variants on the phone — one with 6GB of RAM and another with 8GB of RAM.

The Mi MIX 3 is speculated to comes with a dual camera setup at the rear, comprising of a 20-megapixel main sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and Optical Image Stabilisation (EIS). The phone is also likely to come with support for wireless charging.

Google Pixel Slate renders appear to reveal design, detachable keyboard and stylus

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are scheduled to get announced tomorrow. A recent report had revealed that the search engine giant may announce a smaller Pixel smartphone alongside the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Another new device that is now expected to get unveiled tomorrow is the Google Pixel Slate.

The Google Pixel Slate is rumored to arrive as laptop-tablet hybrid which means it will be equipped with a detachable keyboard. The renders of the rumored tablet have also leaked. There is nothing significant about its design, but the support for detachable keyboard can be seen since it features a pogo-pin connector.

Like the Pixelbook from last year, the Pixel Slate seems to be equipped with 3:2 aspect ratio display. The screen of the device is surrounded by thick bezels. There is no information on the exact size of the screen and resolution of the Pixel Slate. However, it is likely to support at least Full HD resolution. It is also equipped with a front-facing camera and a rear-mounted snapper.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro AnTuTu score has breached 310k mark

The Huawei Mate 20 series of flagship phones are all set to get unveiled in the coming week. Last year’s Kirin 970 SoC by Huawei that powered the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro smartphones was able to compete with rival phones driven by Snapdragon 845. Hence, there is a lot of expectations from the 7nm Kirin 980 chipset that will be fueling the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. Today, the Mate 20 Pro smartphone that has a model number of LYA-L29 has surfaced on AnTuTu benchmarking platform to reveal its performance prowess.

As it can be seen in the below image, the AnTuTu listing shows the performance scores of the 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM edition of the Mate 20 Pro. In tests for CPU, GPU, UX and Memory, the Mate 20 has respectively scored 115296, 112516, 69456 and 16293. Hence, the handset has managed to achieve a total score of 313561.

Most of the Android phones fueled by Snapdragon 845 have scored around 290k on AnTuTu. The benchmarking scores of Mate 20 suggests that the Kirin 980 will outperform the SD845 chipset.

The recently announced Apple iPhones such iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr are powered by 7nm Apple A12 chipset. The total benchmarking score of the Mate 20 is a bit behind that of the iPhone Xs Max that has recorded a score of 372106. One should be aware of the fact that the AnTuTu score of the Mate 20 could belong to its pre-production unit. Hence, the actual benchmarking score of the final production unit could be different.

The Mate 20 Pro will be sporting a notched display and it will come with some advanced features like 3D facial scanner, in-display fingerprint reader and triple rear cameras. Recent leaks have revealed that the Mate 20 Pro will be coming in variants like 4 GB RAM + 64 GB / 128 GB / 256 GB storage, 6 GB RAM + 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB storage. OnePlus is all set to launch its next flagship smartphone, OnePlus 6T, later this month. Ahead of the official official launch, the OnePlus 6T’s pre-booking offers on Amazon India has been revealed.

A listing related to the OnePlus 6T on Amazon India suggests that the pre-bookings for the upcoming device will being in India from the date of official announcement and will end on 30th October. This could mean that the company will start shipping the phone from 1st November.

Last week, HMD Global launched a new smartphone – the Nokia 7.1. A lot of people were disappointed at the specs since it is practically the Nokia 6.1 Plus with Carl Zeiss cameras lens and Nokia’s “PureDisplay” technology as upgrades. It appears the manufacturer has another phone it plans to launch soon, one that may placate these angry fans and one with a “Mega Display”.

The official Twitter account of Nokia Mobile India posted a tweet about a device coming soon. That tweet seems to have been deleted as we couldn’t find it on their page. Nevertheless, the guys at MySmartPrice have a screenshot of the tweet and also uploaded the video to YouTube.

The tweet includes a six-second video which shows the silhouette of a phone at the end. Only the back of the device is visible but we can make out a dual camera system. The video also includes captions that say “To see the bigger picture” and “A mega display is coming”.

There have been guesses about the device Nokia is teasing. The most common one is that it is the Nokia 7.1 Plus. The Nokia 7.1 Plus was expected to launch alongside the Nokia 7.1 but it didn’t. Seeing as this device is being advertised as sporting a large display, it makes sense that it is the successor to the Nokia 7 Plus.

The Nokia 7 Plus is the phone with the biggest display in HMD Global’s current lineup with its 6.0-inch screen. It won’t be unusual for its successor to have a bigger screen as part of its upgrades.

LG banking on 5G to help it make profits next year

The LG V40 ThinQ is one of the new devices that launched last week. It is an impressive device but it remains to be seen how well it does in terms of sales. However, there are speculations that the Korean electronics giant will be raking up huge losses by the end of the year.

Despite the predicted loss, LG believes things will get better. LG’s hope is on the 5G revolution which will kick off next year for smartphones. Speaking in an interview following the unveiling of the V40, the president of LG’s mobile division, Hwang Jeong-Hwan, said their company is one of three manufacturers ready to launch a 5G-ready smartphone when 5G roll-out begins. LG believes this should give them a headstart and an increase in sales for the first half of 2019.

The LG G7 ThinQ maker already has a contract with Sprint which will see it release the carrier’s first 5G-smartphone. The device, according to the US network, will be “shiny and distinct¨ and will launch in the first half of 2019. Although nothing is known about the device’s specs and features, it appears it won’t be an updated version of the LG V40 ThinQ.

Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 and Max M2 gets certified by EEC in Russia

After the success of its mid-range Zenfone Max Pro M1, the Taiwan-based Asus seems to be working on its successor. The Asus Zenfone Max M2 and the Zenfone Max Pro M2 have been certified by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) in Russia.

The certification processor has revealed the name of the upcoming phones as well as their model number. The Zenfone Max M2 carries model number ZB633KL, while the Zenfone Max Pro M2 has model number ZB631KL.

Further, it reveals that both the phone will be running Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box, which is a bit disappointing given that it’s been a while since Google officially released the Android 9.0 Pie update and a few manufacturers have already started rolling out Android Pie to their devices.

The listing does not reveal anything related to the phone’s specifications. However, unlike the current models, the successor is expected to come with a notched display, probably a bigger one, given that most of the devices launched this year feature a notched display.

We are also expecting an upgraded processor for improved performance and a dual rear camera setup for enhancing the imaging capabilities. As for the battery, we expect the battery capacity to be similar to the 5,000mAh battery — same as the current models.

While the specifications for the Zenfone Max Pro M2 and Max M2 are just a speculation at this point in time, the EEC listing has confirmed the existence of the phones. The listing suggests that the phone are currently in production stage, and we expect to see leaks related to the devices in the coming weeks.

Xiaomi LEX to launch as Mi Note4 alongside Mi MIX 3 on October 15

A few days ago, a poster that revealed Xiaomi will launch the Mi MIX 3 on October 15 was seen on the web. Now, more posters have leaked and they also confirm the same date above for the launch of the Mi MIX 3 and that of a second phone too.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 is the device we’ve been looking forward to ever since it was officially teased by Xiaomi’s own president back in August. However, a second device called the Xiaomi LEX also surfaced online a few days ago.

One of the posters reveals that the second phone launching on October 15 is the Mi Note4. This is the device originally known as the Xiaomi LEX. Apparently, LEX is the codename for the phone. The Mi Note4 is the successor to the Mi Note3 released in September 2017.

Not much is known about the Mi Note4 except for a screenshot that shows it has a dedicated AI assistant button. Nevertheless, it sure should be a worthy upgrade when compared to its predecessor. The poster also has a color gradient background. We believe this might be one of the colors it will be available in.

Xiaomi opens Mi TV Factory in India to increase supply

This year marked Xiaomi‘s entry into the smart TV market in India. According to IDC, the Chinese manufacturer is now India’s No. 1 smart TV brand. In order to cement its new position in the market and also increase supply, Xiaomi has opened a factory where it will manufacture the smart TVs sold in the country.

The new TV factory is a collaboration with Dixon Technologies, an Indian-owned company. The partnership resulted in a 4% increase in the shares of Dixon. The factory which is located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, has a total area of 32 acres and employs over 850 workers.

Xiaomi says the factory has a production capacity target of 100,000 smart TVs per month by Q1 2019. It will begin with the production of the Mi LED TV 4A 32” and the Mi LED TV 4A 43” and add other models next year.

Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 India sales hit 1 million units in less than 6 months

ASUS has announced that it has recorded a milestone in the sales of its premium midrange Zenfone Max Pro M1 in India. The phone which was launched in India in April has now had 1 million units sold. That is an impressive feat for a company that is struggling to get its own share of the smartphone market globally. The phone is sold exclusively on Flipkart.

Apart from having a cool design, ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 has as its main selling point, an affordable pricing. The phone comes with a starting price of Rs. 10,999 ($148) in India for the variant with 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant. On the other hand, the model with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage will cost Rs. 12,999 ($175). ASUS introduced a 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant in July which sells for Rs. 14,999 ($202) in India. ASUS initially made the device available in Midnight Black and Grey colour options but in August, a Blue variant was added to the mix to further boost sales.

As a reminder, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes with a 5.99-inch Full View Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and screen aspect ratio of 18:9. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. For photography, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 features a vertically arranged dual camera setup comprising a 16MP + 5MP combo. While at the front, there’s an 8MP snapper with a Softlight LED, which has been optimized to capture selfie shots with bokeh effect. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with a touch of ASUS’ ZenUI.

Google Pixel Mini code-named Bonito spotted on GFXBench

There are speculations that Google will launch a Pixel Mini alongside the Pixel 3/XL which are expected to launch on October 9. The tech giant had released a teaser on its Instagram page a couple of days back talking about the Pixel Mini. Here’s what Google said; In the post, Google said, “We’ve heard rumors of a mini Pixel. Which begs the question how “mini” is too mini? We have a feeling the next one will be a bit bigger than this. Tune in on 10/9 to see for yourself.”

The statement doesn’t really confirm its existence but fuels earlier speculations about its existence. A device suspected to be the Pixel Mini has been spotted on GFXBench. According to popular tipster, Roland Quandt, someone has been testing a Google phone with the code name “Bonito,” on GFXBench. The phone is reportedly powered by the Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform. This could be the Pixel Mini as “Bonito” is the name of a small fish that is a relative of the Tuna.
