DXOMark scores the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3’s camera at 103, same as the Note 9!

Xiaomi has just released its most innovative flagship smartphone of 2018, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. While the design is one of the biggest highlights of the device, the company wants us to know that they have put a lot of efforts in its camera department as well. This is why even before the Mix 3 launch event was officially over, DXOMark outed the official score for its camera and it’s really impressive. The independent benchmark platform gave it a high score of 103, making it the best Xiaomi smartphone camera in the market today.

Xiaomi’s recent efforts in improving its camera quality has paid off. First, it was the Mi Mix 2S that came close to the iPhone X and the Mate 10 Pro when it came to camera performance. This year’s Mi 8 even surpassed the Mix 2S with a score of 99. Now, with the Mi Mix 3 scoring 103, Xiaomi flagships are finally in the big boy club featuring top-end cameras. In fact, the phone’s 12+12MP rear cameras got a score of 108 in photo surpassing even the Note 9.

With a magnetic sliding full-screen design, powerful cameras, top of the line hardware and a competitive price tag (<$500), the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is really turning out to be a must buy in the affordable flagship segment.

After the announcement of Lenovo S5 Pro, Lenovo is eager to launch Z5 Pro with some advanced features. Today, Lenovo took to Weibo to unleash the launch information about Lenovo Z5 Pro. As with October, it seems many new devices are getting lined up for launch in November. The new Lenovo Z5 Pro will be announced in Beijing at the Lenovo Global Headquarters on November 1st.

Lenovo group vice president Chang Cheng said that the new device is much improved and even tiny details of the phone is now polished. Lenovo Z5 Pro will be a refined product from Lenovo with the ultimate use of technology. It is reported to be the first sliding design smartphone from Lenovo.

Lenovo Z5 Pro has been in the news after the company’s Vice President, Chang-Cheng exposed it at the Lenovo TechWorld Innovation Technology Conference. He touted to its 100% screen-to-body ratio with an on-screen fingerprint sensor. If the sliding design comes out to be true, then it would compete against the recently launched Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. Xiaomi’snew device, Mi Mix 3 also features the same sliding design with 93.7% of screen-body ratio.

As per other reports, Lenovo Z5 Pro will feature Snapdragon 845 processor with 8GB RAM. Lenovo will adopt the same policy of competitive prices to get huge sales. In an interview during the launch of Lenovo S5 pro, Chang Cheng confirmed that the Lenovo Z5 Pro would be priced lower than the Xiaomi or Honor devices.

Xiaomi had launched the Mi A2 Android phone smartphone in India in August. During the launch, the company had announced that the smartphone would be available in two variants such as 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. The company has been only selling the 4 GB RAM edition of the phone in the country. The Chinese manufacturer has now listed the 6 GB RAM edition of the Mi A2 in India on its official website and Mi Store app.

Even though the Xiaomi Mi A2 is now listed on its official online store, the sales of Android One phone have not started yet. The handset is priced at Rs. 19,999 and it will be available in four color like Black, Blue, Gold and Red.

The launch offers that are available for the 4 GB RAM edition of the Mi A2 are also available for its 6 GB RAM variant. Google Chromecast 3 launched in India for Rs. 3,499 ($48)

Google has now launched the new Chromecast 3 in India, which was originally unveiled earlier this month. It is the successor to the Chromecast 2 that was first launched in September 2015.

The new third-generation of the Google Chromecast comes with the same round design with fixed HDMI cable and micro-USB power port. It has the same design aesthetics match the rest of the devices of the Made by Google family that includes Google Home, Pixel phones, Daydream View headset, etc.

The Google Chromecast 3 comes with an improved hardware that is touted to perform around 15 percent faster than the previous-generation model. The newer version also supports 60fps video streaming at full-HD (1080p) resolution.

The new model is also a bit ticker than the previous-generation device and loses the magnetic connector that was useful for managing the HDMI cable. There are more than 800 apps that are compatible with the Chromecast. It uses Wi-Fi connectivity to play online content on your TV and the casting feature can be used through an Android or iOS device.

Earlier this month, a tipster from India had revealed that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 smartphone would be arriving in three colors like Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue and Black. Few hours before the announcement of the smartphone, the tipster has shared a leaked press render of the aforementioned color variants.

As it can be seen below, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 can be seen sporting a marvelous near bezel-less display. The chin of the device is slightly thick compared to the other bezels.

The backside of the Mi MIX 3 features a vertical dual camera setup. Even though it can’t be seen in this image, a leaked poster that had surfaced yesterday had revealed that it would be featuring a rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

A leaked hands-on video that had cropped up today has also confirmed that the phone is equipped with a fingerprint scanner on its rear. The back side of the phone seem to be made out of ceramic. A vertical dual camerasetup is available on the top-left corner of the rear shell of the Mi MIX 3.

Leaked information has so far revealed that the Mi MIX 3 is equipped with a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED screen that supports Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The Snapdragon 845 is the driving force of the smartphone. The handset is expected to get unveiled in variants such as 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. A special edition of the phone featuring 10 GB RAM + 256 GB storage is also tipped to get announced today.

The Mi MIX 3 is equipped with 24-megapixel + 20-megapixel dual camera setup on its rear. At the front, it features dual 24-megapixel selfie snapper. A 3,850mAh battery may power the phone. The handset is confirmed to carry support for faster wireless charging support. The Mi MIX 3 will be the world’s first phone to support 5G connectivity.

Qualcomm’s wired and wireless charging speeds will soon get a boost

Fast charging technology has come a long way and is almost a compulsory add-on for flagship and premium mid-range models. Perhaps, the most widely used in Qualcomm‘s Quick Charge technology with the latest being the QC4+ which can deliver a charge of 50% in just 15 minutes. Interestingly, Huawei’s own SuperCharge 2.0 is touted to deliver 70% of power in 30 minutes, while Oppo’s Super VOOC can charge a battery completely in just 35 minutes. Meaning that Qualcomm’s Quick Charge isn’t the fastest charging technology around but that will soon change as the company has revealed that its Quick Charge technology will be improved significantly next year.

Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ utilises a feature dubbed Dual Charge that enables power to flow through two paths rather than one. This, in turn, increases the power output of the charger to 18W and also improves heat dissipation. Qualcomm says its next-gen QC version billed to be released next year will come with Triple Charge which will add a third flow of current. This will boost the output to a considerable 32W of power and will also improve heat dissipation.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Hands on video leaked ahead of its launch; shows rear fingerprint sensor!

Xiaomi is set to officially announce the much-touted Mi Mix 3 which has been a favourite in the rumour mill. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 deviates a whole lot from all its predecessors in terms of the design it adopts and even on the hardware aspect. Ahead of its unveiling, a short hands-on video of the Mi Mix 3 has appeared on Chinese microblogging website Weibo.

The hands-on video shows the Mi Mix 3 design in all its glory. Perhaps, most worthy of note is the rear fingerprint sensor which is on the model in the video. The Chinese phone maker had earlier teased the presence of an in-display fingerprint sensor on the device. Thus, it is possible that the Mi Mix 3 will come with both in-display and rear fingerprint sensors. In another light, there could be a model with in-display fingerprint and another with the rear sensor. Guess we won’t wait for too long to find out.

The hands-on video also shows the Mi MIX 3 is expected to arrive with a 6.39-inch S-AMOLED display that will carry support for 2340 x 1080 pixels Full HD+ resolution. The slide of the phone is fitted with LED-enabled 24-megapixel+20-megapixel dual selfie snappers. The backside of the Mi MIX 3 could be equipped with a 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera setup. Recall that the Mi Mix 3 will also be 5G-enabled and will get a variant that boasts of 10GB of RAM onboard.

Design

As said above, Xiaomi Black Shark Helo, Asus ROG Phone and Razer Phone 2 all feature a gaming-centric design, so they are not exactly for you if you like elegant phones. The one with the soberest and refined design is Razer Phone 2, which I would pick as I like black and elegant devices. And I also like it because it is water-resistant with the IP67 certification.

Display

Razer Phone 2 would be my choice even when it comes to the display quality. It has the screen with the highest resolution, it has a high brightness and it even has the highest refresh rate which is the most important thing for games. That is why I prefer this display, but note that Asus ROG Phone is able to provide more satisfying colors due to its wide color gamut and the HDR technology.

Specs & Software

While Razer Phone 2 looks more attractive for its display, Asus ROG Phone and Xiaomi Black Shark Helo have a superior hardware. While the first is the only device which has an overclocked Snapdragon 845 chipset, the second is the world’s first smartphone which comes with 10 GB of RAM (in its most expensive version only). Given that we still had no chance to try the new Xiaomi flagship, we still can not tell you which has better performance.

Camera

At least on the paper, the most interesting camera department belongs to Xiaomi Black Shark Helo. It boasts two sensors on the back, both with a bright f/1.8 aperture. Further, the dual camera is able to perform 2x optical zoom. However, I have to try it personally to make a definitive conclusion.

Battery

As they all have the same capacity, there will not be so much difference between the battery life of these devices. So, we suggest you not to choose your gaming phone by basing on the battery life; all of them can last long on a single charge.

Price

Asus ROG Phone is my favorite handset of the trio and it is the winner of this comparison as it boasts amazing performance, a pretty nice display and it supports important gaming accessories thanks to its secondary USB-C port. But Xiaomi Black Shark Helo has the best value for money because the company just launched it in China for just $505, while Asus ROG Phone and Razer Phone 2 cost $969/€850 and $1026/€900, respectively.

Mobvoi announced its latest smartwatch, the Ticwatch C2, at an event today. The Ticwatch C2 runs Wear OS and comes with a number of features and even includes a variant aimed at women.

Design

The Ticwatch C2 has a circular dial buried in a stainless steel frame and has two buttons on the right. The interchangeable straps are made of genuine leather and the watch comes in three colors – Onyx, Rose Gold, and Platinum.

The Ticwatch C2 has a 1.3-inch AMOLED display with a 360 x 360 resolution. Powering it is the old Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor which may be the deal breaker for some.

The Ticwatch C2 connects via Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi and works with Android and iOS devices. It supports Google Pay, has GPS, a heart rate monitor, accelerometer and a gyroscope. It also has an IP68 rating. Mobvoi says its 400mAh battery should last up to 36 hours on a single charge.

Since it runs Wear OS, the watch can perform a number of functions such as music streaming from Spotify, display notifications, and tell you about your schedule and the weather thanks to the Google Assistant. There are also hundreds of downloadable watch faces on the Play Store.

The watch measures 42.83 x 42.83 x 13.10 mm for the Onyx and Platinum variants and 42.83 x 42.83 x 12.80 mm for the Rose Gold variant. The Onyx and Platinum variants use 20mm straps while the Rose Gold variant uses 18mm straps.

OnePlus 6T pricing leaked for all European variants; New purple variant tipped

OnePlus 6T was recently spotted on the website of OTTO, a retailer from Europe. The listing had revealed that the OP6T variant featuring 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage will hitting the European market with a price tag of 579 euros. Today, reliable Indian tipster Ishan Agarwal shared the European market pricing for the different variants of the different storage and RAM variants of the OnePlus 6T. He has also claimed that the smartphone may arrive in a new color option of Purple.

The base model of the OnePlus 6 featured 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Recent reports have revealed that there won’t be any 64 GB OnePlus 6T model. According to the tipster, the base model of the OnePlus 6T will feature 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It will be available in a single color option of Mirror Black and it will be carrying a price tag of 559 euros (~$636).

The second variant features 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of inbuilt storage and it costs 589 euros (~$671). It is expected to arrive Midnight Black and Mirror Black color options. The tipster has also claimed that this model may also arrive in a new Purple option. The 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage edition of the OnePlus 6 was made available with 569 euros (~$648) pricing.

The highest configuration version of the OnePlus 6T will include 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of native storage. It will be available in single color choice of Midnight Black and it is expected to carry a price tag of 639 euros (~$727). The 8 GB RAM + 256 GB edition of the OnePlus 6 had carried a price tag of 619 euros (~$705).

The OnePlus 6 smartphone was made available in color choices like Mirror Black, Midnight Black, Silk White and Amber Red. Going by the information shared by the tipster, it appears that OnePlus may introduce a brand new Purple variant for the OnePlus 6T. As far as pricing leak is concerned, the OP6T variants are expected 20 euros (~$23) than its OP6 counterparts.

The OnePlus 6T will be announced on Oct. 29. It is expected to arrive in most markets on Nov. 6.

Samsung teases Galaxy A8s with a truly bezel-less screen

At the event in China where it unveiled the Galaxy A9s and the Galaxy A6s today, Samsung teased a brand new phone called the Galaxy A8s. However, it was tight-lipped about the phone’s feature save for a picture which shows the phone with a completely bezel-less display.

Samsung says the Galaxy A8s will be the first to feature a new technology. That new technology is most likely a new display design with practically no bezel. So if it doesn’t have a bezel, where are the sensors and front-facing camera?

According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy A8s will have a hole in its display for the front-facing camera and sensors. It will be quite small, much smaller than the water-drop notch and will be surrounded by the rest of the screen. In a tweet he posted last week, Ice Universe said the design will gain mainstream adoption next year.

The Samsung Galaxy A8s doesn’t have a release date yet and there is still a lot we do not know. However, there is a chance it will launch before next year or at least before the Galaxy S10 series.

OPPO R17 gets new Foggy Gold color variant, goes on sale November 1

The OPPO R17 launched as the first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 670 processor. It is also one of the few phones covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 6. When it launched it was announced in three color variants – Ambient Blue, Neon Purple, and Radiant Mist. OPPO has announced a fourth color variant called Foggy Gold (according to Google translate).

The new Foggy Gold variant is more like a gradient peach color. It is also only available in 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM like the Radiant Mist variant. OPPO has put a ¥3499 (~$504) price tag on it like the other color variants with the same configuration and it will go on sale on November 1.

The OPPO R17 has a 6.4-inch 2340 x 1080 OLED waterdrop display. There is a fingerprint scanner buried under the screen and the notch on top houses a 25MP AI selfie camera. The back of the phone is home to a 16MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor for capturing depth details. There are a plethora of features baked into the camera app such as portrait mode, panorama mode, and beauty mode.
