The Nexus 6P was the last of the nexus line before Google killed it in favor of the Pixel. The phone which was made by Huawei had multiple issues key ones being the heating issue with the Snapdragon 810 and a bootloop issue said to be hardware related and not caused by the software.
Google began offering replacement units to affected owners but seems to have run out of stock. And since Huawei has stopped making the device, Google has decided to offer a better replacement – a spanking new Pixel XL.
Owners of faulty Nexus 6P units including those whose one year warranty has elapsed are eligible for the replacements. However, it is limited to those in the US, Canada, and the UK. The condition is that the screen must not be cracked neither should the phone have suffered water damage.
A few days ago, real images of the Meizu M6 surfaced online. The images also revealed the specifications of the phone. Today, Meizu has officially announced that the budget phone will launch on September 20.
As is known of Meizu, the manufacturer couldn’t help but stir up some controversy with its unusual invites. For the M6, it has sent a pair of sneakers as an invitation to the event.
The teaser poster has the same sneakers and also the phrase “Dare to Basic” written on it. The Chinese text also loosely translates into “Basic models should not be hard to do?”. Considering the fact that the leaked specs confirms that the Meizu M6 will have the same specs as its predecessors, it sure shouldn’t be hard to make.

Google‘s latest Android 8.0 Oreo is just about three weeks old since it was officially announced. Already, the new Android operating system has been rolled out to most Pixel and Nexus smartphones which are the only models with the new OS for now. Turns out that Android Oreo isn’t yet as sweet as the chocolate biscuit it was named after as it still has some bugs in it. The latest one was reported by a number of users on the Google Product Forums and what it does is that it disables all mobile data usage prematurely on some carriers around the world.
The bug will only be noticed in situations where the carriers provide their customers with unlimited access to certain apps like WhatsApp and a number of other apps. In such situations, even though you have used up all of your mobile data, you should still be able to use these apps. But users complain that as soon as they exhaust their data, mobile data is turned off completely. That is apparently because Android Oreo wasn’t built to respond to such sort of situation.
More interesting are the reports by some Pixel devices’ users that their mobile data gets turned off even when they are yet to use up all their allotted data. Google has responded that they are aware of the issues. A Pixel Community Manager disclosed that the team (of engineers) has been looking into the issue of getting the “mobile data has run out” notification. It is taken as a high priority and the team is working towards a fix. A fix will likely come as a software update when it is ready.
TCL had confirmed earlier in this month that it will be launching a new smartphone in October. It appears that the upcoming from the company could be the one that is codenamed as BlackBerry Krypton as it has been certified by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S.
The BlackBerry Krypton has received Wi-Fi Alliance certification earlier in this week and the same device was Bluetooth SIG certified in August. The rumor mill claims that the BlackBerry Krypton could be the all-touch phone that is confirmed to come with a larger battery and a durable chassis.
According to FCC filing, the smartphone is named Krypton. However, it is likely to launch as a new BlackBerry DTEK series phone that includes smartphones like DTEK 50 and DTEK60. The handset may launch as DTEK 70, but there is no concrete evidence to support the claim.
FCC listing has revealed that the Krypton name belongs to BBD100-2 handset. It is one of the four variants that was approved by Wi-Fi Alliance. The remaining model numbers of the phone are BBD100-1, BBD100-3 and BBD100-6. According to CrackBerry, Krypton’s external and internal photos, test setup images and user manual are protected by short term confidentiality agreement from TCL.
Previous reports have revealed that the all-touch display phone will carry support for full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The exact screen size is not known, but it may either feature a 5.2-inch or 5.5-inch display. The fingerprint scanner is expected to be present below the display.
The Snapdragon 625 chipset is rumored to power the BlackBerry Krypton with 4 GB of RAM. The handset will be running on Android 7.0 Nougat and will feature BlackBerry Hub and DTEK security features. It may sport a IP67 certified chassis and a 4,000mAh battery which is pegged to deliver two-days of usage. TCL is expected to confirm on its launch date soon as the smartphone has already cleared the necessary certifications.
Speculations are rife that TCL may unveil the BlackBerry Juno phone with physical QWERTY keyboard shortly after the launch of the BlackBerry Krypton.
Apple launched the new Apple TV 4K at its event two days ago. The new TV box brings 4K HDR content to your home and will be arriving next week. However, it seems Amazon is also planning to release new Fire TV devices as images and specs have leaked.
The image shows a square-shaped Chromecast-like device with a HDMI cable attached to its body and a new remote-controlled cube-shaped Fire TV box with a top similar to an Amazon Echo Dot.
The Chromecast-like device is said to be a mid-range TV stick that will support 4K HDR video. It will have a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.5GHz with a Mali-450MP GPU. There will be 2GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage.
The box will be in the flagship category and will double as a streaming device as well as an Echo device. The top has a similar layout to the Echo Dot with a bunch of far-field microphones to pick up instructions. It also comes with a remote identical to what is currently available with Fire TVs.
The cube is expected to have ports for ethernet and storage expansion at the back. Specification details are also not available but it should pack more processing power than the other one.
Apple had unveiled three new smartphones on Tuesday. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are slated to be available for pre-orders from Friday and the iPhone X pre-orders will begin on Oct. 27. Since these iPhones will be hitting the market at different times, Daneil Gleason, a senior analyst at Ovum has claimed that the sales of iPhone 8 duo may suffer in fiscal Q4 that ends in September
In an interview with CNBC, Gleason said that there are two kinds of iPhone buyers. Those who wish to buy the premium and costly iPhone X will be waiting for its Nov. 3 market release and others who want to purchase the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus won’t be rushing to purchase them. Smartphone buyers will be waiting to see the iPhone X before deciding on buying iPhone 8 or 8 Plus. Gleason is of the view that this will affect the iPhone sales in Q4 this year.
Apple’s September launch event for new iPhones are known for generating impressive sales from late Q3 and stronger numbers in Q4. However, the arrival of the premium iPhone X in November will disturb the sales of iPhone 8 duo that will go on sale in the next week. Hence, the Cupertino company is likely to report a lower sales number in fiscal Q4 in which it usually generates good revenue.
Since Apple will be releasing the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in the market on Sept. 22, it will have only 8 days to report its sales of fiscal Q4. Usually, Apple is known for selling 10 to 12 million iPhone units in the short period of sales in the fiscal fourth quarter. With smartphone buyers waiting for the release of iPhone X, it is likely that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus may record half the sales than it usually achieves in the remaining days of fiscal Q4.
The other thing that is likely to negatively impact the sales of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is that Apple may release iPhone 8s and 8s Plus with OLED screens. This may probably compel buyers to not to purchase the iPhone 8 duo but waiting for the arrival of upgraded iPhones next year, claims Abhey Lamba who is the managing director of America research at Mizuho.
In fiscal Q1 2018, Apple had met with $78.4 billion iPhones sales. However, analysts feel that during the fiscal Q1 that ends in December, Apple may record a higher sale of $86.8 billion after a lower sale in fiscal Q4 2017.
HTC is rumored as planning to launch the U11 Life which it is expected to release with stock Android. The device is tipped as running on Android 8.0 Oreo and will be part of Google’s Android One program. This detail was leaked on Twitter by a popular tipster and was even confirmed by famous tipster Evan Blass.
Evan Blass has got quite some reputation for credible leaks so it looks possible that the HTC U11 Life will indeed launch with stock Android O. The tipster also revealed that the device will have a variant that will come with Sense 9.0 and also shared a render of the device which looks very much like the U11. However, we can’t say what market will get that variant but the two variants will likely not sell on one market at the same time. Earlier rumors had tipped the U11 Life as launching sometime in October.
HTC Ocean_Life will be released under Android One program. It will lose most of the HTC apps and run stock Android O with Sense 9.0_A1.
The HTC U11 Life is said to go by the codename Ocean Life and it has all the settings of being a mid-range smartphone. Previous leaks had revealed the U11 Life will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor which isn’t found on too many phones yet. The device packs a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. There will be a single 16MP camera at the rear as well as a 16MP selfie shoot up front. In addition, the U11 Life will get its juice from a 2,600mAH battery which will be complemented by the good processor to ensure the battery lasts for a while. The device may also come with IP68 waterproof and dustproof body.
The specs don’t look too appealing except the SD 660 chip onboard. The 2600mAH battery may be a turn off for some persons. So, it remains to be seen if HTC will be able to pull off some success out of the U11 Life.
Huawei announced during IFA that its next flagship, the Mate 10 series will arrive on October 16. Recent leaks say it will come in three variants – the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and a more affordable Mate 10 Lite.
The Mate 10 will be the standard version with a 5.9-inch IPS LCD screen. It will have dual rear cameras made in conjunction with Leica. The fingerprint scanner for the Mate 10 will be embedded in the home key.
The Mate 10 Pro will launch with a bezel-less display Huawei has branded EntireView. The display will be AMOLED and will have a QHD resolution. It will also have Leica-branded rear cameras and be powered by the Kirin 970. The bezel-less display will result in the fingerprint scanner moving to the back of the phone.
In the previous month, the HTC built Google Pixel 2 was certified by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. Now, the larger Pixel 2 XL has also passed FCC certification. It appears that the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are heading for a launch on Oct. 4.
According to the FCC listing, the Google Pixel 2 XL has an FCC ID of ZNFG011C. The “ZNF” is the FCC grantee code of LG and “G011C” is the model number of Pixel 2 XL which is very similar to that of the Pixel 2. The FCC documents of the Pixel 2 has revealed that its model number G011A.
So, what happened to G011B? Previous reports had revealed that HTC would be manufacturing the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones. Since the Pixel 2 XL is being built by LG, the G011B could be the model number of HTC’s Pixel 2 that has been cancelled.
The South Korean company has concealed the specifications and other details of the Pixel 2 XL in the FCC listing. The Pixel 2 XL by LG would be supporting all the LTE bands from leading carriers in the U.S. such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint. However, the list does not contain band 71 from T-Mobile.
Like the Pixel 2, the Pixel 2 XL is unlikely to feature a 3.5mm audio jack. Some of the new features that are expected to arrive on the Pixel 2 duo are Android 8.1 Oreo, Google Lens apps, Always-On Display, squeezable frame and dual front facing speakers. Fresh information has suggested that apart from the display, both Pixel 2 phones would be coming with identical specifications. Even though the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are respectively built by HTC and LG, these phones will be sold in the market as “madebyGoogle” phones.
A billboard in Boston, U.S. hints that the search engine may keep a launch event on Oct. 4. It seems that the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL may get unveiled on Oct. 4. Last year, Google had unveiled the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones on Oct. 4 and had confirmed its launch on Sept. 20. It seems that the company may confirm the Google Pixel 2 launch event at the beginning of the next week.
In the previous month, the rumored Nokia 2 entry-level smartphone had received FCC (Federal Communications Commission) certification in the U.S. Several details on the specs of the phone have appeared in the recent past. The FCC documents have revealed that the Nokia 2 is housing a massive battery of 4,000mAh capacity.
When HMD Global had confirmed that Nokia 8 flagship would be launching on Aug. 16, the fans of the Finnish company were also expecting that the company would be unveiling the Nokia 2 phone. Even though the Nokia 2 has passed FCC certification, there is no information available on its launch.
Leaked photos have revealed that the Nokia 2 would be having a design that is similar to the Nokia 3. It is expected to feature a 5-inch HD screen that will produce a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. It is pegged to be driven by Snapdragon 212 chipset that will be coupled by 1 GB of RAM. Some countries are rumored to receive a MediaTek chipset edition of the smartphone.
It is expected to arrive preinstalled with a stock edition of Android Nougat. An 8-megaixel camera is rumored to be present on the rear of the phone, while the front is pegged to house a 5-megapixel selfie camera. It won’t be featuring a fingerprint reader.
With 4,000mAh battery onboard, it could be the largest battery enabled Nokia-brand Android phone. A single charge may possibly allow the smartphone to last for around 2 days. However, previous reports had revealed that it houses a 2,800mAh battery.
The FCC certification has revealed that the Nokia 2 would be arriving in four variants. The TA-1007 and TA-1029 Nokia 2 models are single-SIM and dual-SIM editions that support LTE bands 5,7 and 38. And, the TA-1035 and TA-1023 are single-SIM and dual-SIM editions that support LTE bands 2, 4, 7, 12, 17 and 38. A new report has revealed that HMD Global has enabled LTE band 5 on TA-1035 and TA-1023 variants of the Nokia 2.
The unlocked Nokia 3 comes with a pricing of around $160. Hence, the Nokia 2 is rumored to arrive with a cheaper pricing than Nokia 3. Apart from entry-level offering, recent reports have revealed that Nokia 9 is the next Android flagship from the Finnish firm. It is pegged to arrive as bigger edition of Nokia 8 along with a full screen design. It is expected to debut before the end of this year.
Well-known leakster, Evan Blass had claimed that the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones would be debuting on Oct. 5. A billboard has appeared in Boston that hints that Google will be holding a launch event on Oct. 4. It appears that the search engine giant has started teasing the Oct. 4 launch event for Pixel 2 duo.
As it can be seen in the image, the billboard carries the text “ask more of your phone” with a multi-colored “G” logo and Oct. 4 at the bottom. Last year, the original Google Pixel was unveiled on Oct. 4 and some countries like India, it was unveiled on Oct. 5. So, there is a possibility that this year also the search engine may use the same strategy.
The original Pixel and Pixel XL that were sold as “made by Google” products were built by HTC. Reports have revealed that HTC is building the Google Pixel 2 whereas the larger Pixel 2 XL is being manufactured by LG.
The rear side of the smartphone may feature a 12-megapixel camera that is coupled with EIS instead of OIS for better shots in darker conditions. It is expected to come in a IP68 certified water and dust resistant chassis.
It will come preinstalled with Android 8.1 Oreo and carry support for Always-on Display. It may not feature a 3.5mm audio jack. Google is rumored to include the Google Lens app on the phone that will allow users to take a snap of a movie poster, listen to its songs and buy tickets to watch it in the theater. It is also speculated to come with a squeezable frame like the HTC U11.
The Pixel 2 XL is pegged to come with a larger 5.99-inch Quad HD display and may feature a full screen design like the LG V30. Reports suggest that except for the display, the Pixel 2 XL will carry the same specs as its smaller sibling. Reports suggest that Google may also unveil its Google Assistant AI enabled earphones at the upcoming launch event.
Apple finally unveiled its 2017 flagship smartphones which came out as iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. All three iPhones are coming out exactly 10 years after the launch of the first iPhones which introduced numerous design concepts that have been adopted by modern smartphone platforms, such as the use of multi-touch gestures for navigation, virtual physical controls including keyboard in favor of those rendered by the operating system itself on its touchscreen and several others. One spectacular thing about iPhones is their powerful camera with quality picture output.

Apple claims the new mode will be better than the regular filters found on camera apps. Here are the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus camera samples as shared by Apple.

For those who don’t know, Huawei’s Maimang line is released outside China as the G-series. Last year’s Maimang 5 was released as the Huawei G9 Plus in other markets.
Although the poster doesn’t tease the four cameras on the device, it does tease the 18:9 display. Also, if you look at the logo on the bottom left corner, it is the same one present on the back of the image from TENAA.
The Huawei Maimang 6 will launch on September 22. This means it will be the first Huawei phone to feature the EntireView Display. The Mate 10 Pro is also expected to come with an EntireView Display.
The Maimang 6 will have a 5.9-inch 1080 x 2160 display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It will be powered by a 2.6GHz octa-core processor that draws power from a 3240mAh battery.
LG has announced the LG V30 and V30 Plus in its home country of South Korea. Both phones were first officially unveiled in Berlin over a week ago, but LG didn’t reveal their prices. It however did that today.
While the price is for Korea, one can have a rough estimate as to how much it would cost in other countries. The LG V30 will sell for KRW 949,300 (∼$841) and the LG V30 Plus will sell for KRW 998,800 (∼$885).
The difference between the two variants is limited to just built-in storage. The V30 has 64GB and the V30+ has 128GB. It is left to you to decide if paying $40 more for an extra 64GB of storage is the right decision, after taking into consideration that they both have MicroSD card slots (256GB max).
Pre-orders for the phones will begin tomorrow, 14th of September and end on 20th of September. It will officially go on sale on the 21st before rolling out to other regions.
The LG V30 and V30 Plus may cost less than the Galaxy Note 8 (64GB =$964, 256GB = $1,107) but it doesn’t come with exciting pre-order gifts like its close competitor. Those who pre-order the V30 will be able to buy a Daydream VR headset for a discounted price of KRW1000 (∼$0.89). To be honest, that is a pretty heavy discount.
Xiaomi unveiled its first Android One phone, the Mi A1 last week. The phone which is actually the Mi 5X but with Pure Android instead of MIUI 9 went on sale yesterday in India.
Xiaomi had announced during the launch that the Mi A1 will be available in a total of 37 countries. However, it has not disccosed when these other countries will get it.

The Mi 5X doesn’t support LTE Band 20 neither does the Mi A1 sold in India. On the other hand, the Mi A1 that is listed on the Vietnam site has support for Band 20. If this band is important to you, then it is best you wait till the phone is available in your country.

The Samsung executive disclosed that Bixby will be available on the Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
Bixby was first introduced on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones and lately on the Galaxy Note 8 and J7+. Samsung recently launched the voice assistant in the U.S and disclosed that it is now available in 200 countries, with plans in place to make it available in different European languages. Once you first pick the Xiaomi Mi 6 up, the first impressions are that the phone looks just gorgeous. Also, it has excellent build quality and it is fairly compact since it sports a 5.15” IPS LCD display, which is sharp, vibrant and definitely one of the best 1080p panels you can find.
I love that the phone sits nicely in the hand. The stainless-steel frame is almost seamless with a curved glass back panel, which actually does a decent job with all the fingerprints and smudges. In comparison, the phone does not attract fingerprints so quickly like the Galaxy S8. Also, the buttons are easy to reach and they have a great tactile feedback.
As far as hardware goes, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is one of the most powerful smartphones the money can buy.
It ships with the latest and greatest Snapdragon 835 chip, 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage, which is, however, not expandable.
One of the key selling points of the Mi 6 is the dual camera setup that consists of a 12MP shooter with a wide-angle lens and another 12MP sensor with the telephoto lens that gives 2 times zoom and the ability to take beautiful portrait photos with bokeh effect. The main camera has a bright f/1.8 aperture lens, 4-axis OIS, and dual tone dual-LED flash.
The Mi 6 ships with the MIUI 8, which is built on top of Android 7.1. Finally, the phone has a 3350 mAh battery.
Just a couple of days back, Vivo officially announced via Weibo post that its full-screen smartphone, the Vivo X20 will launch on September 21. Yesterday, the Chinese tech giant again took to Weibo to announce that the X20 will have a special Mars Intelligent Agency Edition which would be in entirely black color and would likely debut alongside the standard X20.
The Weibo post which teased the MIA edition was accompanied by several images of the X20 with some regalia associated with the show but Vivo didn’t reveal further information on the specification and availability. But since it is a special edition, there may likely be a limited number of units available. The device may also come with a different memory version while still retaining a 5.8-inch display and other specs the X20 is coming with. In case you are wondering what this is all about, Mars Intelligence Agency is a popular TV show in China.
As a reminder, the Vivo X20 is expected to feature a 5.8-inch AMOLED display with a 2160 x 1080p resolution and aspect ratio of 18:9 and would be powered by Qualcomm’s latest powerful mid-range chip- Snapdragon 660. This would be paired with a 6GB RAM. The X20 should also feature a 24MP dual camera setup on the back and a 24MP front shooter. It also offers facial recognition feature – dubbed Face Unlock – that’s claimed to unlock the device within 0.1s. The phone is expected to pack in a 3,500mAh battery.
