Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro teaser confirms Kirin 980 processor

Huawei has scheduled an event on October 16th in London where the company will announce its flagship smartphones — Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. Recently, the company’s leaked teaser of the phones showcased the camera capabilities. Now, another teaser video has surfaced online, which confirms that both the phones will be powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 processor.

The Kirin 980 chipset was announced by Huawei last month, making it the first mobile processor manufactured using the 7nm process. Not only that, but it is also the first chipset with the new Cortex-A76 CPU cores; the first chipset with a dual-NPU; the first with the Mali-G76 GPU, the first with a Cat. 21 LTE modem, and the first chipset to support 2133MHz LPDDR4X.

kirin 980

The octa-core chipset comes in a tri-cluster arrangement (2+2+4). The four Cortex-A76 cores are separated into two – one set is clocked at 2.6GHz while the other is clocked at 2.2GHz. The former takes on high demanding short-term tasks while the latter handles high-demanding long-term tasks. The power-saving Cortex-A55 cores are clocked at 1.8GHz and handle simple everyday tasks.

The Kirin 980 also has a new ISP with a 46 percent increase in performance over last year’s model. Huawei says that it also brings a 23 percent improvement in recording power efficiency and 33 percent improvement in recording latency. There is also the new dual NPU chipset termed “Dual-Brain Power” that is claimed to be 120 percent faster than the NPU in the Kirin 970.

Earlier, the phone’s specifications were leaked online, revealing that the Mate 20 will have a 6.3-inch OLED display with 3120 x 1440 pixel screen resolution and curved sides, and will be powered by a 4,200mAh battery with support for wireless charging. It could come with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

Samsung Galaxy P30 coming with cheaper pricing and high specs, but no in-display fingerprint scanner

Samsung is rumored to be working on introducing the P-series of smartphones. The Galaxy P30 is expected to arrive as the first phone in the new series. Rumors have claimed that the Galaxy P30 will be the first phone to arrive with in-display fingerprint scanner. However, a well-known tipster from China with @MMDJ_ Twitter handle has claimed that the handset will not feature an under-display feature.

Previous reports had claimed that the Galaxy P30 would be equipped with an LCD panel fitted with an in-screen fingerprint reader. Since the under-display fingerprint scanning technology can work only on phones with OLED display, it seemed a bit odd to here the rumor about Samsung P30 featuring an LCD screen as well as in-display fingerprint sensor. The South Korean company has been using AMOLED screen for all its smartphones since many years. The inclusion of LCD panel on P30 suggests that it is likely to feature a traditional fingerprint reader.

The Chinese leakster seems to be pretty clear that the Galaxy P30 will be coming with a regular fingerprint scanner. He has also claimed that the P30 will be a smartphone with high specifications made available with cheaper pricing. He further added that the SM-G6200 smartphone which is believed to be the model number of Galaxy P30 will be coming with 6 GB of RAM.

A recent report has revealed that the Galaxy P30 will be coming in 64 GB and 128 GB storage variants. Probably, both phones are likely to be equipped with 6 GB of RAM. The handset is expected to arrive in blue, pink, black and red color gradients. As of this writing, there is no confirmation on the other specifications of the Galaxy P30.

The Galaxy P30 is expected to be accompanied with a bit higher specced P30+ smartphone. The new P-series is rumored to be aimed towards Asian markets such as China and India. The Galaxy P30 duo is expected to go official before the end of 2018.

An invitation letter that apparently is for the OnePlus 6T India launch has just leaked and it points to an October 17 launch date. This is the second time this date is coming out. Just like the previous OP6T teaser, the launch invite also contains the tagline “Unlock The Speed”. The tagline is believed to refer to the device’s new in-display fingerprint sensor. The OnePlus 6T is said to depart from the usual rear-mounted fingerprint sensor to make use of a fast sensor placed on the display. This feature has already been confirmed by the Chinese company.

Honor 8X Max vs Xiaomi Mi Max 3: Specs Comparison

Big phablets are wonderful when it comes to user experience and they are almost as comfortable as tablets. But they are also huge and it is not so easy to bring them in a pocket without problems. But if you do not have this issue, getting a device like this would be a joy for your eyes. Honor 8X Max and Xiaomi Mi Max 3 are the biggest phablets launched in 2018 alongside Honor Note 10. We already compared the Mi Max 3 with Honor Note 10, while in this article we will compare Honor 8X Max and Xiaomi Mi Max 3. It will be a way more interesting comparison as both these devices are affordable mid-rangers while the Note 10 is a flagship.

Huawei Honor 8X Max vs Xiaomi Mi Max 3: Design

Xiaomi is not used to launch many midrange phones with flagship-like aesthetics, but Honor does. Honor 8X Max is much more beautiful than its opponent thanks to its reflective glass back available in three color variants: Black, Blue, and Red. It even has a waterdrop notch which only contains the front camera, as well as a thin chin. Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is the classic full metal unibody device, so it is not anything special.

Display

On these devices, you will find two IPS LCD displays with an average viewing quality but a huge diagonal. Both are Full HD+ displays, but Honor 8X Max has a taller screen with a notch, while Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is larger and it does not have a notch. Given the marginal difference in viewing quality, it is all about tastes: choose Honor 8X Max if you prefer a taller display with fewer bezels or choose the Mi Max 3 if you hate the notch and you want less black borders while watching videos.

Specs & Software

Same hardware, with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset and up to 6 GB of RAM. However, there is a small difference: Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is available in a configuration with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, while to have 128 GB on the Honor 8X Max, you have to choose a configuration with 4 GB of RAM. While Honor 8X Max has the EMUI installed, Xiaomi Mi Max 3 comes with MIUI. It is a draw and it is again about tastes.

Camera

Talking about the camera department, I prefer the Xiaomi Mi Max 3. It has a dual camera setup on the back with the primary sensor borrowed from the Mi 8 and with a brighter aperture. It can click very nice photos in most of the light conditions, even though it is far from flagships.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi Max 3 has a slightly bigger battery than Honor 8X Max, with 500 mAh more. And it can provide a longer battery life thanks to the bigger capacity and the wonderful Xiaomi’s optimization on its devices. Both support a fast-charging technology.

Price

In China, Honor 8X Max is priced €190 for the base variant (4/64 GB), while Xiaomi Mi Max 3 carries a price tag of €220. I choose Xiaomi Mi Max 3 as the winner of the comparison as it has a better camera and a bigger battery, and I do not care about having the best design on a so big phablet. But if you do, you are free to disagree with me and choose its opponent as it is very close in terms of specs and performance.

Samsung Galaxy P30 color gradient variants, storage models leaked

Fresh rumors have claimed that the forthcoming Galaxy P30 will be the first Samsung phone to feature an in-display fingerprint reader. The South Korean company was previously speculated to introduce in-display fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S10 flagship phone arriving next year. Probably, the company could be bringing Qualcomm’s ultrasonic in-display fingerprint technology on the Galaxy S10, whereas some of the phones arriving before it such as the Galaxy P30 may feature an optical in-screen fingerprint scanning solution that are less accurate than ultrasonic counterparts. Coming back to the Galaxy P30, Samsung is also expected to debut a higher configuration P30+ phone alongside it. A new leak has surfaced to confirm on the color variants and storage models of the Galaxy P30.

According to Sam Mobile, the Galaxy P30 will be coming in storage options such as 64 GB and 128 GB. Many smartphone makers from China such as Huawei, OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi to name a few have released phones with gradient colors. However, Samsung has recently a released a gradient color variant for the Galaxy A9 Star smartphone in China.

samsung-a9-star

The upcoming Galaxy P30 and P30+ could be the next smartphones to sport gradient color options. The new leak reveals that the Galaxy P30 will be arriving in Blue, Pink, Black and Red gradient color options. It is speculated that the first P-series smartphone from the company will be arriving first in China. The P-series is also expected to release in India to rival with other mid-range smartphones.

Samsung is yet to confirm on the Galaxy P30 moniker, but recent leaks have revealed that it has a model number of SM-G6200. The in-display fingerprint scanner is rumored to be embedded under the LCD screen of the P30. Samsung has been launching its flagship and entry-level phones with S-AMOLED displays. There is no confirmation on whether the company would be switching to notched display instead of 18.5:9 Infinity Display design that it has been using on its recent smartphones.

To rival well with Chinese brands in Asian markets like China and India, Samsung has reportedly decided to bring flagship features on its mid-range phones. The South Korean company seems to have already tried this strategy since it has already launched the Galaxy A7 (2018) as the first phone from the company with triple rear cameras.

There is no information available on the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy P30 and Galaxy P30+. Some rumors have claimed that the P30 duo may debut on Oct. 11, but other reports suggest it may get announced before the end of 2018.

Honor Magic 2 May feature a Graphene-based battery

The Honor Magic 2 is shaping up to be an interesting device. When it was partly unveiled at IFA 2018, we learned the phone will come with a bezel-less display with a mechanical slider. Honor also revealed it will support 40W fast-charging technology dubbed Magic Charge. Now a new info about the phone has surfaced and might be a first for the industry.

Honor Magic 2

It has been reported that Honor’s vice president, Xiong Junmin, said today that the Honor Magic 2 will feature a graphene-based technology. He also said the phone will offer more surprises when it launches.

Analysing the first part of the statement, there are a number of guesses with respect to how Honor may implement graphene – one of the new wonder materials in recent years – into its Magic 2 phone.

First, graphene-based batteries. Back in 2016, Huawei’s Watt Labs announced at the Japanese Battery Symposium that it had achieved a breakthrough in Graphene-Assisted High-Temperature Li-ion batteries.

According to the press release, Huawei said the application of Graphene-assisted heat-resistant technologies allowed their lithium-ion batteries to continue to function in a 60 °C environment which is 10 °C higher than the current limit. The technology helped with heat dissipation and helped to lower the temperature. Huawei also said li-ion batteries infused with the technology have double the battery life of ordinary Li-ion batteries.

Lab tests have shown that a graphene-infused Huawei battery will still retain more than 70% of its battery capacity after more than 2000 charge cycles at a temperature of 60 °C.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OceA8Wye71M[/embedyt]

Now, the Honor Magic 2 is expected to support 40W fast charging just like OPPO’s Super VOOC technology present in the Find X Lamborghini Edition and OPPO R17 Pro. For safety reasons, it makes sense if the Honor Magic 2’s battery is infused with Graphene-assisted heat-resistant technology so as to keep the battery cool during charge.

Another way Honor might use graphene is in the overall cooling of the phone. One form or the other of cooling has been employed by smartphone manufacturers in their phones this year. The POCOPHONE F1 uses liquid-cooling via a copper pipe and the Galaxy Note9 uses a Water Carbon Cooling system which is a combination of carbon fiber and copper.

For the Honor Magic 2, we presume Honor has found a way to use graphene in the cooling system to keep the device’s temperature low when running heavy based tasks such as gaming. Research has shown that graphene is better as a cooling material than other materials currently in use. It is also cheaper and thinner which means the phone can remain thin.

Huawei’s Honor brand is set to go ballistic with smartphone releases for the final quarter of the year and the company will kickstart that no later than October. A new poster has emerged pointing to the launch of the Honor 8C on October 11 this year. The Honor 8C will drop barely seven months after the Honor 7C was launched in March this yearHonor 8C

The poster adopts the theme “Charging Up” which could point to the fast charging technology onboard. This is going to be an interesting feature considering the Honor 7C is pretty cheap and the 8C will likely follow suit. The poster also contains the front render of the purported Honor 8C. From the render, it can be seen that the device will come with a notch display design. This will take off some more bezels from around the device when compared to the Honor 7C.

Recently, a new device was certified by TENAA with the model number BKK-TL00. The model is suspected to be the Honor 8C but the listing wasn’t accompanied by a picture, making it impossible to confirm that. The new Honor BKK-TL00 features a 6.26-inch display with an HD+ resolution of 1520×720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It has a dimension of 158.72 × 75.94 × 7.98mm and weighs 167.2g. The device is equipped with an Octa-core processor with its CPU clocked at 1.8GHz. The device comes with  4GB memory and 64GB storage. The storage can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD slot.

Motorola One Power vs Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 vs Xiaomi Mi Max 3: big battery phones comparison

One of the most useful features on midrange and entry-level phones nowadays is the battery life. Motorola One Power, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Xiaomi Mi Max 3 are the last-generation mid-rangers with the biggest batteries, and besides that, they also have a great quality-price ratio and good performance. However, each of these handsets differs from each other for important particularities, and this makes one better than the others depending on the users’ needs. In this comparison, we will make you understand which one is the best and the most suitable depending on the user.

Design

These devices are not the best ones in terms of design as they have a classic full metal unibody design without a flagship-like glass back. If I would have to make a choice, I would pick Motorola One Power due to its higher screen-to-body ratio. Thanks to the notch, the device has a tri-borderless design with just a thicker chin on which you can read the Motorola branding. The other two phones have an 18:9 display and thicker bezels on both the upper and the lower part. Further, Motorola One Power is splashproof, so it is also more interesting for its build quality.

Display

When it comes to display, Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is the most interesting device. The reason is simple: it is one of the phones with the world’s biggest displays. With a size of 6.9 inches, this device is very close to a tablet and it offers a great user experience in productivity and reading. Viewing quality is not so different in each handset, they all pack a midrange-class LCD panel, so do not expect great surprises.

Specs & Software

Same hardware side for each handset, with the Snapdragon 635 chipset and up to 6 GB of RAM depending on the chosen variant. But there is an important difference in the software: as the name suggests, Motorola One Power is powered by Android One, a stock version of Google’s operating system focused on performance and updates, with no customizations. With this device, you would get great performance as well as faster and constant updates for years. So it wins this section of the comparison.

Camera

Unfortunately, we still can not test the camera performance of Motorola One Power as it was launched yesterday. But one thing is sure after reading the specs on the paper: Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is not at the level of its opponent. Even though we did not test it, on the paper Motorola One Power has the best camera department.

Battery

As mentioned above, the battery is the strongest point of each of these handsets. While the first twos feature a monster 5000 mAh unit, the third has an even bigger 5500 mAh (but note that it also has way bigger dimensions). They can all provide up to two days of battery life with a stressed use, but we believe that Xiaomi Mi Max 3 has the longest battery life.

Price

The price of Motorola One Power starts from just $218, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 was launched for a starting price of $217 and Xiaomi Mi Max carried a launch price tag of $250 in the base configuration. Motorola One Power wins the comparison with its design, Android One support and better camera, but if you like phablets and comfortable phones, go for the Xiaomi Mi Max 3.

TENAA images show the Nubia Z18S may come with dual side-mounted fingerprint scanners

TENAA has updated its listing of the dual-screen wielding Nubia Z18S with images. These images reveal that screens and cameras are not the only features we will be getting a double dose of in Nubia’s next flagship.

If you have seen the leaked hands-on videos and photos of the Nubia Z18s, you will agree it is hard to tell if it has a fingerprint sensor but the TENAA listing confirmed it does have a fingerprint sensor. The question is where is it or should it be where are they?

[envira-gallery id=”213686″]

The new TENAA images show the sides of the phone and both sides have an indentation prompting us to believe the Nubia Z18s will come with dual side-mounted fingerprint scanners. There is a sensor on the right, just below the power button and another sensor is positioned on the left just below the volume rocker. Both sensors are also at the same height.

One image of the phone shows the device has double LEDs on the rear. There is also a small slit above the bigger display between the screen and frame which is for the speaker and on the left side of the phone is a SIM tray.

We go Hands on with the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro gradient twilight gold version

Xiaomi unveiled two new smartphones in its flagship Mi 8 series last week, namely the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and the Mi 8 Lite. Both the phones are aimed at a younger generation crowd and comes with new color options to set it apart from the competition. The gradient version of the two new devices are a bit different than the ones that you have seen from companies like Huawei. Our quick Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro hands on reveals the twilight gold gradient color in detail. Make sure to check out the photos down below.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro (2)

At the time of launch, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro was announced in three color variants: Twilight Gold, Black, and one special variant, a transparent version similar to the Mi 8 EE edition. In many ways, the new model is a good replacement for the Explorer Edition, featuring a cheaper price without its 3D face unlock feature on board.

The screen fingerprint sensor found on the EE edition makes it way to this cheaper model, however, there are a few differences. According to the company, the Mi 8 Pro’s screen fingerprint is 29% faster than the EE edition. Further, the success rate increases by a solid 8.8%. Overall, when it comes to fingerprint, the Mi 8 Pro should offer a superior experience than the EE edition.

The mirror like finish is obtained by a vacuum nanometer splash plating technology. The end result is a highly reflective back surface with hues changing from the top to the bottom.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro Twilight Gold

Apart from the gradient back and the in display sensor, the Mi 8 Pro is the same as the regular Mi 8 edition. Key features include SD845, dual band GPS, and a 20MP selfie camera in its notch.

Check out all the photos of the Mi 8 Pro twilight gold edition down below.

Storage is Apple’s new goldmine for the new iPhones

The new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the first iPhones to have 512GB of storage. That is a lot of space for your hi-res photos, songs, and HD videos. While the extra storage is good news for iPhone users who want more than 256GB of storage, it is a money maker for Apple and that is because they are charging a lot more than usual. This shouldn’t be a big surprise as Apple has always charged more than what is considered a fair price for its products.

iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max

The cost of storage has reduced a lot recently which means there shouldn’t be a huge difference in price when you are settling for a higher storage but Apple is still charging a lot when you choose a higher storage variant. One can say storage is its new gold mine for the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max by the time you do the math and realize how much Apple is making.

A researcher at IHS Markit Ltd, Wayne Lam, said Apple pays 25 cents for every gigabyte of storage but charges its customers about 78 cents per gigabyte. Apple is charging $349 extra if you jump from the 64GB model to the 512GB model and analysts say that is an extra $134 in profit for Apple.

Unlike other components which may need the phone to be redesigned if they differ from one phone to the other, it is not like that for storage. All it takes in simple terms is a swap of the storage chip.

Sale of the higher storage variants isn’t the only way Apple is making money from the new iPhones. Users are likely to spend more money on content (songs, apps, videos) when they have more storage.

Apple is also offering an iCloud backup plan for $9.99 a month for 2TB of storage. When combined with an Apple Music subscription and purchase of at least a movie on iTunes each month, an owner of the 512GB iPhone XS Max may spend $40 more than others.
