LeEco Puts Coolpad Under Its Belt: Becomes Largest Shareholder

Chinese media giant, LeEco has bought more stake in Coolpad Group Limited becoming the company’s largest shareholder. LeEco which used to have 18% of the total stakes after injecting about $350 million into the ODM back in 2015 have now bought an additional 11% stake putting them in the controller’s seat.

Colpad+LeEco 1

LeEco has mentioned that this new development will not affect the operations at Coolpad but will see both companies partnering on future projects. The acquisition will possibly favour LeEco a lot as Coolpad is one of the largest ODMs (original design manufacturers) in China with clients like India’s Micromax, therefore reducing manufacturing costs for future phones.

LeEco has teased a couple of posters which might be hinting at a new product in the not too distant future or a different thing entirely. We can’t say for now. But we’ll let you know once we get more details.

June 2016 Sales Charts Puts Huawei at the Top and Xiaomi at No. 9

A Chinese website whose name translates to ”the first handset world” posted the sales made in June by mobile phone manufacturers in China. The statistics which are for offline sales and cover 25 provinces and 167 cities, were obtained from the major chain stores around the areas covered.

Mobile phone Sales statistics

Coming in at the top is Huawei. They have cemented their hold in the Chinese market, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the success of the Huawei P9 and its siblings. The company’s sub-brand, Honor, also makes it to the list but sits at the 13th position.

BBK Electronics owned Oppo and Vivo also maintain the second and third spots respectively. The surprise starts when Shenzen based company, Gionee overtakes Samsung (which sits at number 5) and Apple by moving up 2 positions to number 4.

Apple has dropped two positions and sits at number 6. Coolpad retains the 7th position and Meizu follows closely at number 8.

Xiaomi comes in at number 9 after losing their former position to Meizu. This is not a surprise as the tech giant has sold majority of its phones online. The company however has started making plans to focus on offline sales by opening brick and mortar stores in major cities.

Haier G6 Smartwatch Review: DESIGN and DISPLAY

IMG_2996JPG IMG_3005JPG

The Haier G6 smartwatch is not a standalone smartwatch as it may look like but it has quite a few features. As far as design and build quality goes, it is pretty good as the watch itself uses a metal ring.

IMG_3007JPG

However, the PU leather strap feels kind of cheap and it may wear off quite soon.

IMG_2999JPG IMG_3000JPG

We have a built-in speaker (which has just a mediocre sound quality), mic and a physical multi-functional button, which allows you to operate the device.

IMG_2997JPG

As far as display goes, it is good for a smartwatch but don’t expect a lot of pixels here.

Haier G6 Smartwatch Review: FEATURES and FUNCTIONALITY

Since it is a watch after all, it has quite a few pre-installed watch faces to choose from.

The user interface is pretty simple and easy to use. Also, I didn’t have any lags.

The watch connects to your phone via Bluetooth and I didn’t have any issues with that. We have some basic telephony features that work okay. However, I could not sync my contacts or messages with the smartwatch as I always got “Failed to sync” message.

IMG_3001JPG

The smartwatch can be also used as a hands-free device and the call quality is okay but people on the other end will hear that you are you are calling from a different device than a smartphone.

We have quite a few additional features and customization options. Most of them work fine but I found the remote camera feature to be pretty useless (at least on the OnePlus 3 I’ve tested with).

Last but not least we have some fitness-related features like pedometer, sedentary reminder, stopwatch and a heart-rate sensor. I compared the results with the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 and I was pleasantly surprised that the numbers were quite similar, meaning that the integrated sensors are pretty accurate.

Haier G6 Smartwatch Review: THE APP

Haier G6 Smartwatch Review: BATTERY LIFE

The battery life is one of the weak points of all smartwatches that have colour displays. I could get just around 3 days of continuous use before I needed to recharge.

Haier G6 Smartwatch Review: CONCLUSIONS

IMG_2997JPG

The Haier G6 is a feature-packed smartwatch that delivers in quite a few ways but it is not a perfect device.

IMG_3003JPG

It has a great build quality but the PU leather strap may wear off pretty quickly.

20160720_123531

It is great that fitness-related features work fine but we found some bugs like in the remote camera shutter feature, which fails to launch phone’s camera. Also, we had quite a few issues syncing the contacts and messages from the phone.

20160720_125231

Last but not least, the battery life could be better but this applies to most of the smartwatches in this price range.

All in all, the Haier G6 Smartwatch is a feature-packed device that has quite a lot to offer but you have to consider some shortcomings before making a purchase.

OnePlus 3 Gets Official TWRP version to Root device

OnePlus 3 is adding another plus to its kitty just days after we got the awesome news that we’d be seeing the Soft Gold version of the device. Now, an official version of Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) for the OnePlus 3 has been released.

OnePlus 3

Before the release, the OnePlus 3 made this all possible by making its firmware bootloader easily unlockable. For reasons best known to them, some other phone manufacturers usually make it difficult, if not impossible to root their Android devices by restricting access to their brand’s bootloader. OnePlus is keeping up with its policy of making the OnePlus 3 accessible, not only for purchase at affordable cost but also for exploration of the capabilities of the flagship.

For those who don’t know, Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP), is an open-source software custom recovery image for Android-based devices. It provides a touchscreen-enabled interface which allows users to install third-party firmware and backup the current system, which are often unsupported by stock recovery images. It is, therefore, often installed when rooting Android devices.

Let it be known though, that rooting of smartphone isn’t for novice but for those that have got the expertise. One wrong move and the phone might get permanently damaged. So, in case you have never rooted your phone before, proceed with caution and if you’re not sure what you need root for, go play Pokemon Go.

For those who’ve got the expertise, if you’re interested in exploring the capabilities of your OnePlus 3 by rooting it, you start by unlocking developer options under settings and allowing OEM unlocks and USB debugging. Then, you simply write down the following line “fastboot devices” and then “fastboot oem unlock” in the command line / terminal.

Then, you can proceed with flashing recovery by installing TWRP on your OnePlus 3 and hitting the big install button in the TWRP app. Once you do all this, your phone should be rooted and ready for all your experiments with it.

Leaked Images Of the Redmi Pro Reveal Brushed Metal Body

Thanks to the numerous leaks, rumors and further coverage of the Redmi Pro and the Xiaomi Notebook, there would hardly be any fans on the internet who are unaware about the July 27 conference from Xiaomi next week. Recently, there has been so much information about these two products that Gizmochina’s majority of the Chinese news coverage have been focused on these two devices.

redmi pro metal image 01

Just a few minutes back, we reported that Xiaomi Redmi Pro is confirmed to feature Helio X25 deca-core chip and dual cameras. Now, real life images of the Redmi Pro’s metal back have just surfaced online, giving us a better look at the upcoming handset. Like what we saw in the earlier leak, the new images confirm that the phone will come with a brushed metal body. This is definitely a change from the smooth metal finish on previous Redmi models that have been announced by the company.

Since we have seen that there is no fingerprint sensor at the back, it would most likely end up on the front, embedded into the home button. The previous leak had confirmed the presence of dual cameras on the top of the back panel and this one confirms the same design.

This design looks quite premium thanks to its brushed metal finish and with powerful specs like Helio X25, OLED display, and dual cameras, the Redmi Pro will definitely give other mid-range flagships a run for their money. Considering these specs, the phone will be costlier than existing Redmi handsets. If the rumored 1499 Yuan ($225) price tag turns out to be true, the phone would be one of the best value for money handsets in the market today!

Xiaomi CEO Confirms Processor & Dual Cameras On the Redmi Pro!

The past few days have been flooded with news about the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Pro smartphone that will be announced on July 27. In the past three days, the company released a few teasers which hinted and almost confirmed that the phone will come with a metal body, deca-core processor, dual cameras and OLED display. However, now, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun has officially confirmed the processor on board the upcoming smartphone as well as the presence of dual cameras at the back.

redmi pro helio x25

First of all, Lei Jun confirmed that the Redmi Pro will feature the Helio X25 deca-core processor. We had a doubt whether the phone would be using the slightly slower Helio X20, but this confirms that the faster variant is going to end up on the device. Along with the image (above), he asked his fans which other flagships use Helio X25 chipset inside. Well, there are the two popular ones, the flagship Pro 6 and then, the Le 2 Pro. So, looks like he’s trying to say that the new Redmi model will be competing with these two devices.

Redmi Pro

About an hour later, Lei Jun further took to Weibo to ask another question to his fans: “Some smartphones use two cameras to take pictures, what would you call this technology?”. He even gave three options: Dual cameras, Dual lens and double cameras.

Well, we take this as a confirmation that the upcoming Redmi Pro features a dual camera setup!

Now, we look forward to more details about the rest of the specs of the device, such as the display size, RAM, storage, fingerprint and other features. Expect most of these details to be revealed in the coming days to the launch. Meanwhile, you can read this article for its earlier leaked specs.

Xiaomi May Ship only 300,000 units of the Mi Notebook this year

Reports have emerged that the much touted Xiaomi Notebook or Mi Notebook if you like, will not be available in large  amounts when finally launched. We had earlier quoted supply chain sources who disclosed that Xiaomi targets shipments of about 1 million units of the Mi Notebook when launched.

Xiaomi Notebook

In a new twist, it has been reported by industry sources that Xiaomi is likely to ship just 300,000 units of the Mi Notebook this year, far lower than the 1 million units targeted.

The Taipei Times quoted supply chain sources hinting at a cut in supply occasioned by the persistent postponement of the release date of the notebook PCs by several quarters.

Related: Xiaomi Targets 1 Million Shipments With Release of Two Mi Notebooks on July 27

The sources further disclosed that production of the laptops is split between Xiaomi’s long-term assembly partner Inventec Corp and Winstron Corp, with Inventec expected to deliver 150,000 units of the 12-inch sized Notebooks, while Winstron will deliver another 150,000 units but this time of the bigger size 13-inch Xiaomi Notebook.

When contacted by the Taipei Times, an official of Inventec is said to have confirmed that the company would start shipping the 12-inch units of the Mi Notebook laptop beginning from the end of July but the said official refused to confirm the total shipments expected to come from his company. Another official, however, disclosed via telephone, quite disappointingly, that “the initial shipments for the products are not massive”.

While Winstron declined to comment on the matter, industry analysts affirmed the possibility of the Xiaomi’s Notebook shipment terminating at only 300,000 units for this year as a result time constraint.

Xiaomi is expected to launch its first Notebook PC alongside the Xiaomi Redmi Pro flagship smartphone in a news conference already scheduled for next week’s Wednesday. Going by this latest report, fans outside China who have been waiting to get their units of the Mi Notebook may have to wait a little longer even after it is unveiled, as just 300,000 units will be available and that amount would likely get consumed in the Chinese market. It is expected, though, that shipments would increase next year as Xiaomi aims to expand its market outside China and this cheap Macbook Pro look-alike would be one of the company’s drivers for the proposed international expansion.

Lei Jun Excited For Redmi Pro’s Release, Some Specs Revealed

Xiaomi’s Redmi Pro flagship smartphone had been speculated all along to be among the devices launching on July 27. But confirmation about that has not been officially done by the Chinese company except via teasers in the form of video or images laced with coded messages, leaving it at the mercy of our brains to interpret the messages.

Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 9.20.44 AM

However just this morning, CEO Lei Jun took to Weibo to express his excitement over the Redmi Pro’s release and categorically confirmed that the flagship device would be released next Wednesday. The message ended there but we were able to gather that he was talking about the Xiaomi news conference holding next Wednesday being July 27.

All along, for the past three days, the three spokespersons for Xiaomi Wu Xiubo, Lu Shi and Liu Hao Ran have taken turns to release promotional videos. The first day, we got served “OLED PING” by Wu Xuibo, followed by Lui Shi who served us “ten nuclear double stem head”, and “Mentor” Liu Hao is going to make “brushed gold potato” (literal translations from Chinese).

The theme of the celebrity cooking highlighted some of the specifications the Redmi Pro will feature. When summed up, the three promotional videos revealed Xiaomi’s next flagship will come with an OLED screen (first for Xiaomi), Deca-core processor + dual camera, and sporting a polished (brushed) metal body.

It is rumored that the Redmi Pro will feature a 5.5-inch 1080pixel OLED display and would be powered by a Deca-core MediaTek Helio X25 chipset, alongside 4GB of RAM and a maximum 128GB of onboard storage. The sleek dual-SIM device is said to boot Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI and would have support for all three networks in China. Also, the device is expected to pop carrying a price tag of around 1499 yuan ($225).

New Renders & Specs of upcoming Xiaomi Notebook Revealed via leaked PPT

Ahead of the July 27 official unveiling, the Xiaomi Notebook has continued to feature in leaks almost daily. Xiaomi has not come out to confirm officially if we’d be seeing the Mi Notebook on that day, neither has the company officially released renders of the Notebook PC that is said to be an Apple MacBook look-alike. We also do not have an official statement about the price tag hovering above the device yet. But an alleged leak of the ppt presentation of the Notebook seems to have revealed most details.

Xiaomi Notebook

A new leaked PowerPoint presentation is the latest we are seeing and not only does the leaked Powerpoint presentations reveal the expected price of the Notebook, it also tackles issues bothering the specifications of the device, and render photos that showcase the beautifully designed laptop Xiaomi has put in place. We must state that the authenticity of the Powerpoint document cannot be guaranteed, it remains a rumor since it is a leak and not officially from Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Notebook

According to the leaked render document, the top-end version of the Mi Notebook will be powered by an Intel core i7-6700HQ processor with GTX 970 graphics card. The high-end Notebook will also feature a 16GB RAM, 512GB Hard disk drive and a display with 4K resolution.

Xiaomi Notebook

On the other hand, the Standard edition is rumored to come equipped with an Intel Core i5-6200U processor, HD 520 graphics card, 8GB of RAM and also 256GB of internal memory.

Xiaomi Notebook

On the aspect of the price, the leaks tout the top end spec of the Mi Notebook to be priced at 6699 yuan ($1003), while the Standard version will carry a price tag of 3,999 yuan ($599).

These prices are way higher than what we heard from previous rumors, so we better take this with a pinch of salt. Hopefully, things will get clearer by July 27.

Xiaomi Notebook: Specs, Price, Variants & More (SUMMARY)

We have been hearing about the Xiaomi Notebook since last year. In fact, recently, the number of leaks and rumors about the company’s first laptop have increased drastically, with most of the sources stating that the device will be announced at the company’s new conference on July 27. While we still haven’t received an official confirmation from the company regarding the launch of the new device at the event, considering the amount of information that we have received lately, we thought it would be a good idea to bring them all together to paint a complete picture of the upcoming Xiaomi Notebook.

So, let’s see what can we expect from the upcoming Xiaomi Notebook PC.

DESIGN:

Design wise, the Xiaomi Notebook should come with a sleek aluminum light weight body. Most sources have said that the upcoming PC should look similar to the Apple MacBook range, which would make it a good looking laptop. In fact, we did see a leaked real life image of the device (down below ), featuring the Mi logo up front.

xiaomi notebook mac pro copy

If this is indeed the final design, then I am sure that most fans would be happy. But Apple may not like the fact that the laptop looks very similar to its MacBook.

We can expect the laptop to come in three display sizes — 12.5-inch, 13.3-inch, and 15.6-inch.

Since there could be three different variants of the Xiaomi Notebook, let’s take a look at each one of them in detail.

12.5-inch Model:

This will reportedly be the smallest variant in the company’s new laptop series. This could also be the cheapest and the lowest specced model. According to recent rumors, the 12.5-inch variant will feature a modest Intel Atom series processor. We are not quite sure that this would be the case as earlier we had heard that Xiaomi was working on cheap but powerful models. So, something like an i5 processor would be more suited for the 12.5-inch variant.

But if Xiaomi is indeed using an Atom processor inside this variant, then it could be very cheap. Also, the battery life could be amazing. Considering its small size and efficient processor, we can expect this model to be ideal for travelers.

13.3-inch Model:

xiaomi laptop

If you wanted something more powerful, then the 13.3-inch Xiaomi Notebook could be your ideal option. According to the latest rumors, the 13.3-inch variant is expected to feature the powerful i7-6500U chipset with 8GB RAM on board. Further, the laptop is said to run on the Windows 10 Pro version. USB Type-C port could be used for charging the device. However, the screen on the device won’t feature touch, at least that’s what the leak said.

The 13.3-inch variant seems to be the ideal model for power users and it is said that it could retail for somewhere around 3000 Yuan ($450). If true, this would be an amazing price tag for a laptop with these specs on board.

15.6-inch Model:

Unfortunately, at this time, there’s hardly any information about this large screen variant. This could be because, only the first two variants, i.e. the 12.5-inch and 13.3-inch models are expected to be released soon. Out of these two, the 12.5-inch model is said to be in mass production already, with latter soon starting production. This would mean that the 15.6-inch model won’t be released anytime soon. So, if you were waiting for a large screen laptop from Xiaomi, then your wait would probably extend till the end of the year or maybe more.

xiaomi notebook pc

While this basically covers most of the information about the upcoming Xiaomi Notebook variants, there are a couple of things that I would like to add in this article.

Software:

Xiaomi’s smartphones run on the company’s own MIUI OS, based on Google’s Android platform. There have been rumors that the company would continue using MIUI tweaked for PCs on its new Notebook PC, however, that likely won’t be the case. Xiaomi has had a good relationship with Microsoft, with a few of the company’s smartphones like the Mi4 running Windows platform. So, it is highly likely that the company extends this partnership for its laptops. This would be a safer move as well, considering the majority of PCs in the market today run on the Windows 10 platform.

Availability:

Xiaomi always had the issue of low stock, with most of it’s in demand smartphones going out of stock in seconds during its flash sale. Things have improved drastically in the past few months though, all thanks to Lei Jun, who has now taken charge of the company’s supply.

But whether Xiaomi will stock up the upcoming Xiaomi Notebook in plenty is a question. This would be the first laptop from the company, and we may not see a lot of stock of the laptop in the early stages. So, the initial availability of the laptop could be limited.

However, there was a recent report which said that the company expects to easily sell 1 million units of its laptop after launch. So, we can’t really comment much about the availability of the device.

Well, that should sum up what we know/ expect from the upcoming Xiaomi Notebook PC.

Xiaomi is known to shake up the market where it enters, and don’t expect anything less from its first ever laptop!

Huawei & OPPO Lead Q2 2016 Smartphone Shipments In China

Global tech market research firm TrendForce recently released their report of smartphone shipments for the second quarter (Q2) of 2016. The report features smartphone shipments and market shares size and displayed stats from both the domestic market in China and globally.

According to the report, Huawei ranks number one on the list of top five Chinese brands, a list which includes strong brands like Oppo, BBK/Vivo, Lenovo, and Xiaomi. This is despite the fact that Huawei’s market share witnessed a slight drop from 21.1% to 20.8% in the local China market and globally from 28% in Q1 to around 24.5% in the second quarter.

Quite surprisingly, Oppo and Vivo continued their ascending flight over Xiaomi and Lenovo, a trend which began in the first quarter. OPPO registered shipments of 18.5 million smartphones in Q1 2016 but this time around dropped a little to 18 million units. However, this didn’t affect its market share which is estimated to have grown  from 12.6% in Q1 2016 to 12.7% in Q2 2016 in the domestic Chinese market.

top phone brands in China

The report also shows that the entire smartphone production around the world totaled around 315 million units in the second quarter, representing an 8.9% increase over the first quarter of 2016.

global phones sales ranking

Globally, Samsung still finished strong in smartphone sales in the second quarter as it did during the first quarter. The Korean giant raked in a total of about 77 million units shipped, representing 24.5% of the overall market share. Samsung is followed by Apple whose global shipment hovered around a distant 48 million units, representing a 0.6% growth in sales from Q1.

Related: Oppo and Vivo Surpass Xiaomi and Lenovo in the Global Smartphone Sales For Q1 2016

Huawei maintains its Q1 position as the third largest selling smartphone brand in the world with a record 29 million units which is a slight improvement from the 28.3 million units Huawei sold in the first quarter of 2016. Oppo, LG, and Vivo completed the list with 18 million, 17 million and 15 million units sold respectively. The global report shows quite cheerfully that of the top six brands globally, three are Chinese companies.

These figures are expected to increase during the second half of the year, with new flagship like the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Apple iPhone 7, Xiaomi Redmi Pro. Also, the exploitation of offline sales channels will help the Chinese brands who mainly depend on online flash sales, penetrate newer markets overseas.

Redmi Pro Camera Samples Surface: Amazing Bokeh From Dual Cameras

Xiaomi is all set to unveil the Redmi Pro on July 27, which is just a week away. The phone should be the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature dual cameras at the back. We have been seeing leaks, rumors and even hints from the company which confirm the presence of the setup at the back. While we have very little details of the specs of the dual cameras at the back, today, we might have a first glimpse at the camera samples from the Redmi Pro.

Naturally, given that the phone will feature dual cameras at the back, bokeh effect is something that all of us would like to see. Looks like the camera does a fine job of capturing images with blurred background as the two new samples are of high quality. Of course, it looks very good because these photos were taken by professional photographers. But it does give us a glimpse of what can be achieved by the setup.redmi pro camera sample booked 2redmi pro camera sample bokeh

As of now, these two are the only samples we have seen from the Redmi Pro, but we can expect more such images as we near the launch.

Working Galaxy Note 7 stars in New leaked Video & Press Render

Its just a couple of weeks to the “7 Unpacked” event holding on August 2 in New York, yet more leaks have continued to trail the Galaxy Note7 which Samsung is expected to unveil on that day. The latest leak is a short hands-on video which shows a Galaxy Note7 in operation.

Galaxy Note7

The video (located under this post), comes from the stable of accessory maker Olixer and is actually an exhibition of the testing of a working Galaxy Note7 with three different screen protectors. Even though the video was meant to showcase the accessories, it offers us an opportunity to sample the flagship smartphone giving us a peek at the bezel-less edges and curved edge display the phone sport.

Also, a photo render (pictured above) of the Coral blue color variant the Samsung Galaxy Note7 is said to feature was leaked online by famous leakster Evan Blass @evleaks on Twitter. The image shows the Note7 in all its glory and beautiful color. The press render also reveals the dual curved edges, USB Type-C port, the S-Pen already ejected from its slot, part of the camera sensor which would be used for the iris scanner, a peach-gold type frame, the embedded fingerprint sensor and on the display is the same S-Pen themed background that had featured in lots of recent leaked images.

Galaxy Note7

The Galaxy Note7 brings many innovations like being the first phablet to introduce a dual curved edge display, first to run on Samsung latest TouchWiz Grace UX operating system, and sport an iris scanner. Samsung also skipped the number 6 which is supposed to be the next after the Galaxy Note 5, in order to correct the confusing name anomaly between the Galaxy S series and Note series.

iPhone 8 Concept with OLED Edge to Edge Display Appears Online

Apple’s iPhone 7 flagship launch is still a couple of months away, yet talks have started shifted to the US tech giant’s flagship for 2017. Just yesterday, we got some surprising news that the next flagship from Apple might be called iPhone 8 and not 7s and that the device will likely see the iPhone changing from its customary LCD display to OLED displays supplied by staunch rival Samsung.

iPhone 8

Now there’s a new iPhone 8 concept that shows us what the OLED might look like on the 2017 flagship phone. The concept designed by designer Tobias Buettner features an iPhone 8 whose entire looks bear no semblance with the current crop of iPhones and even with the expected iPhone 7.

iPhone 8

The concept iPhone 8 sports a Home button integrated within the display, which is new to the iPhone. There’s also a glass cover on the back of the concept phone, similar to that of the iPhone 4. The entire body of the concept iPhone 8 seem to of glass entirely, save for the top and bottom edges which are made of metal. The glass goes all the way over the edges,on the sides where it fuses with the display screen upfront.

iPhone 8

The slim and pretty looking concept phone rocks dual cameras at the rear but with much smaller sensors when compared to other dual camera-packing smartphones. Also, there are capacitive buttons at the sides with a small waistline that might pose difficulty accessing.iPhone 8

Since next year marks the iPhone 10th year anniversary, Apple might decide to overhaul the entire iPhone 8 design and this isn’t a bad looking one. But with an all-glass slim body, one wonders how slippery the iPhone 8 concept might be if it actually sees the light of day.

When Chinese Tech company, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 3 a few months back, the device was said to come in two color variants, Graphite and Soft Gold but the Graphite version was the one that went on sale worldwide starting at $399. OnePlus promised to release the Gold version which it uniquely refers to as Soft Gold version later on.

The teased image of the Gold version carried a short text which talked about the happiness derived from meeting the best in the best of days and the picture shows the OnePlus 3 looking radiant and elegant in a cool gold colored body. The gold color isn’t looking too shiny or catchy but its subtleness should catch the attention of a lot of OnePlus fans.

This recent image teaser conforms with OnePlus Co-founder Carl Pei’s response when asked by a fan on Twitter when the soft Gold version of the OnePlus 3 will be unveiled. Pei did not give a specific date but disclosed that the Gold colored version of the highly sought after OnePlus 3 will hit the market sometime in the latter part of July. We are in July, and in the latter part, so we may get to see how the OnePlus 3 looks colored in Soft Gold anytime soon.

iPhone 8 Details Leaked: There Might Be No iPhone 7s

While we are still waiting for the release of the iPhone 7s (Seven S), industry analyst, Sun Changxu revealed details of next year’s iPhone 8 (if it gets called that) on Weibo.

Changxu says that the iPhone 8 will see an autumn release next year and will feature a processor (most likely A11) built using TSMC’s 10nm  process. An important part of the leak is the move to OLED displays which will be supplied by Samsung. Apple has always used LCD screens in all its phones, so the change to OLED is a big development.

Huawei Honor Zero Smart Band Review: UNBOXING

The smartwatch comes in quite a premium box (the presentation reminds me the Huawei P8’s box).

The contents include some instruction manuals and a magnetic charging cable, which stays firmly when attached to the bracelet.

Huawei Honor Zero Smart Band Review: DESIGN and DISPLAY

IMG_2982JPG

As for design, the smart band is similar to a classic watch due to its round shape. The device is very well-built and it uses a metal frame, which goes around the display.

IMG_2988JPG

Also, the bracelet is very light (25g) and it is IP-68 certified, meaning that it is water and dust resistant.

IMG_2985JPG

On the back, we have pins for charging.

IMG_2986JPG IMG_2983JPG

The band is made of textured rubber and it is comfortable to wear. You don’t have that irritating feeling after you wear the watch for a long time.

The smart band does not have any buttons and everything is controlled by tapping the touchscreen.

As for display, it uses Amoled technology. It is bright and has a great sunlight legibility (tested both in a cloudy day and under direct sunlight).

Huawei Honor Zero Smart Band Review: FEATURES and FUNCTIONALITY

20160720_121556

In order to light up the display, you have to simply lift and turn your wrist.

The smart band has some basic features like clock with the ability to select from a variety of watch faces.

Also, we can see the number of steps taken and calories burned, sleep quality information, stopwatch and adjust some basic settings.

In order to take a full advantage of the smart band, you have to download the Huawei Wear application. I didn’t have any issues pairing my phone with the bracelet and it offered to upgrade the firmware.

Within the app, you can track your fitness goals, choose different activities, adjust various settings and so on. Also, you can receive calls, SMS, Facebook and some other notifications on the display of the bracelet.

I didn’t have any connectivity/syncing issues with the device.

Huawei Honor Zero Smart Band Review: BATTERY LIFE

20160720_130035

The battery life could be better. I could get just over 3 days of moderate use when I used the display quite often.

A great thing is that you can fully charge the device in less than 1 hour.

Huawei Honor Zero Smart Band Review: CONCLUSIONS

IMG_2987JPG

At the price of $66, the Huawei Honor Zero may not be the cheapest smart band around but it is worth the price if you are looking for a basic fitness tracker, which is comfortable to wear and has a premium design with a great display.

IMG_2991JPG

Also, it tracks your steps accurately, gives you notifications of calls, texts and more.

However, keep in mind that it lacks some extra features like a heart rate monitor. Also, the battery life could be better, especially if you are coming from the Xiaomi Mi Band 2.
