Leading smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung and Huawei are currently working on a foldable smartphone and it was a battle between the two of them for being the first to launch such a device. However, it seems that Lenovo could be the first company to launch a foldable smartphone.
The China-based company’s foldable smartphone, which made its first appearance as a concept at Lenovo Tech World Conference 2016, has been teased by the company. Lenovo shared a 10-second video of the foldable phone’s prototype version with a caption that reads – “We are just so terribly good. It’s time to show off. We’ll see you in October.”
The video teaser, which was posted on Lenovo’s official Weibo account, shows a working phone that has a foldable design. We can see that the device continues to recognise and allow touch input when it gets folded at around 80-degree angle. However, there are a couple of dark spots on the right edge of the display, probably due to wear and tear.
The post suggests that the company is all set to launch the foldable smartphone later this month. However, there is no further information available regarding this, apart from the Weibo post by the company.
If we are to believe reports related to Lenovo’s flexible smartphone concept from last year, then the phone will come with a 4.35-inch AMOLED display that can automatically change the smartphone mode or watch mode based on the usage. The phone also reportedly supports eSIM card, enabling free and easy switch to different network.
It’s not clear if the company is actually planning to launch the device later this month or just showcase it. Also, Lenovo hasn’t officially confirmed an event for October 2018 through any of its other social media channels.
Samsung‘s foldable smartphone, which is reportedly a part of the new Galaxy F-series, won’t feature Gorilla Glass “due to the its rigid nature.” The phone’s launch has been postponed from November this year but the exact launch date is still not known but it is being speculated that the phone could launch by the end of this year or at CES 2019.

Xiaomi‘s ecological chain company Runmi technologies best known by its brand name 90 Points first zoomed into the scene in September 2015 when it launched its first suitcase. Three years down the lane, 90 Points suitcases have been one of the top-selling Xiaomi products in and outside China with several categories of suitcases to its name. The company has been innovative in its drive to manufacture suitcases that meets the need of travellers. We recall the 90 Points self-balancing suitcase that was showcased at CES 2018. The company recently launched a suitcase with fingerprint unlock.
To celebrate its third anniversary, 90 Points has unveiled a transparent suitcase priced at 599 yuan ($87). The suitcase has a size of 20 inches and weighs only 2.7kg. The box is crafted using 100% German pure Bayer transparent PC particles processed in a dust-free and dye-free environment. This ensures the suitcase is highly permeable, tough and has high tensile strength. The drawbar is made of 100% aviation 6 series aluminum alloy and has four adjustment levels. Underneath the suitcase is four silent wheels with high-precision double bearing, 360-degree flexible sliding, excellent resilience, shock absorption and noise reduction.
In addition, the suitcase is equipped with a double mechanical code wheel customs lock, designed by using the US Transportation Security Administration TSA lock pattern. This is designed to avoid Customs damaging the lock while in transit.
The suitcase is available to buy in China via 90 Points flagship store on Tmall. It is a limited edition and so the number of available units may be inadequate.
Xiaomi is popular in and outside China for several reasons apart from its affordable premium smartphones. The company boast of a retinue of cool gadgets ranging from smart home products, IoTs, electric scooters and several others. The Segway-inspired Ninebot self-balancing scooter is one of its most popular products due to its affordability and sleek design. The Chinese tech giant made the device become more useful when it launched a GoKart kit to convert the scooter to a racing Gokart. The kit was only up for pre-order via JD.com when it was announced last month. The Ninebot Gokart kit has now been launched for sale on Xiaomi Youpin with a starting price of 2999 yuan ($436).
The 2999 yuan price tag is for the kit alone and will be useful to those who already own a Ninebot and would want to expand its functions. The price is pretty impressive, considering that the kit is on sale outside China for a price that will burn a hole in your pocket. For those who would like to buy the Gokart kit along with the scooter, there are two options available. There is the option of buying the kit with the first-gen Ninebot self-balancing car for 4996 yuan ($727) and another option of buying it with the latest Ninebot miniPro for 6698 yuan ($976).
The Ninebot Go-kart kit is propelled by the Ninebot scooter as it doesn’t have a propelling power of its own. It has all the features of a typical racing kart with a formula 1 racing car steering wheel but with a ratio of 2.1:1. The kart has a maximum speed limit of 24Km/h. However, there are three modes for users to select from based on expertise. There is a novice mode (8km/h), normal mode (18km/h), and sport mode (24km/h). The kart can also switch to reverse by stepping on the brake pedals twice. There is also a mechanical handbrake fitted to the kart’s own wheels. The tires are non-inflatable and should be ay to maintain.
In addition, the kart kit comes with mobile app support which can display in real-time the kart’s speed, cruising range and fault reminder. The Ninebot Go-kart also can also be retracted when not in use. It has a height ranging from 130cm-190cm and can carry a load of 100kg, meaning it is suitable for use by kids and adults within the weight limit accordingly.
Xiaomi has launched a new product under the Youpin platform. The product is named TwentySeventeen Light Mechanical wristwatch and is presently available to buy in China via Xiaomi Youpin. The device comes with a rather steep price tag of 499 yuan (~$72) but the features seem to justify the price.
The product isn’t exactly manufactured by Xiaomi but is manufactured by Shenzhen Micro-intelligence Co. Ltd with the best of quality standards. The wristwatch is a wholly mechanical watch which is quite interesting. The watch is crafted to last for eternity since there is no battery that’ll get drained. The watch uses kinetic energy which it gets when it is worn continually. In that case, the watch doesn’t need to be rewound. But it is left for long without use, the watch needs to be wound manually to provide initial kinetic energy.
The mechanical parts are manufactured using durable parts. The lens is made of sapphire glass which is wear and scratch-resistant. The company equally utilised a blue-coating process to prevent glare and fingerprint stains. The dial and straps are available in white and black colour options. The dial also has a built-in window for the calendar date. The crown has a gear-type design and a transparent large back cover that allows you to feel the unique rhythm of the mechanical watch when you put it on. Most of all, the watch is lightweight.
In addition, the TwentySeventeen light Mechanical Wristwatch comes with a nice calfskin on the outer part. The leather is tough and won’t corrode due to sweat. The strap is designed in such a way that it can be replaced easily. Furthermore, the Twentyseventeen Light Mechanical wristwatch supports 5ATM waterproof level meaning it can be worn in the rain or while washing your hand.
The OPPO PBCM30 was benchmarked yesterday. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo and is powered by the Snapdragon 660 processor (sdm660). It also has 6GB of RAM. Its benchmark scores are given as 1436 and 5467 for the single core and multi-core tests respectively.
The Lenovo S5 was announced back in March. The phone got a lot of flak as it came with less-powerful specs compared to the Redmi Note 5 it was touted to take on. Six months later, it appears we will be getting a Lenovo S5 Pro.
If you are familiar with Weibo, you should know the social media site usually reveals the name of the phone used to make a post. We discovered that the phone used by Lenovo’s VP, Chang Cheng, to post the teaser for the phone with four rear cameras launching next month is the Lenovo S5 Pro.
This is the only proof of the Lenovo S5 Pro’s existence at the moment and we totally have no idea of what it looks like or what its specs are.
The Lenovo S5 has a 5.7-inch FHD+ display, a Snapdragon 625 processor, up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It also has dual 13MP rear cameras, a 16MP front-facing camera, and packs a 3,000mAh battery. We expect the S5 Pro to have a more powerful processor, a bigger battery, and maybe better cameras but not necessarily a bigger display.
Huawei set the record as the first manufacturer to launch a phone (P20 Pro) with triple rear cameras. Some manufacturers have followed suit such as Samsung with its Galaxy A7 (2018) while others are planning to set a new record by launching phones with more than three rear cameras. Nokia is one of the manufacturers in this latter group and will now be joined by Lenovo.
Earlier today, Lenovo’s own Vice President Chang Cheng shared a poster with a quad-camera setup on Weibo. The four cameras are housed in a square setup similar to that of the coming Huawei Mate 20 series. Sitting in the middle of the four camera sensors is a small LED flash.
The poster also mentions the phone will launch in October although the exact date isn’t mentioned. It also adds that the cameras will have AI features. Although we do not know the name of the device, we want to believe it is the Lenovo Z5 Pro slider phone.
Back in March, Huawei announced the Enjoy 8 series. The series includes the Enjoy 8 (Huawei Y7 Prime 2018), the Enjoy 8 Plus (Huawei Y9 2018), and the Enjoy 8e. Six months later, it appears it is set to launch a successor for one of the models as the specs and render of the Enjoy 9 Plus has leaked online.
The leak comes from Evan Blass who posted the details on Twitter this morning. The Huawei Enjoy 9 Plus has an entirely different look from its predecessor. Gone is the all-metal body and in its place is a glass rear with a gradient finish.
The front is also wearing a new look as Huawei has included a notch. The notch has a deep recess much like that of the Pixel 3 XL and it is also home to dual cameras. The display is curved at the corners and the lower bezel is thinner than that of the Enjoy 8 Plus.
With respect to specs, the Enjoy 9 Plus packs a 6.5-inch 1080 x 2340 LCD display. It ditches the Kirin 659 processor for the more recent Kirin 710 chipset. It will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Enjoy 9 Plus has dual cameras on both sides. The rear cameras according to Evan Blass are a 16MP sensor and a 2MP sensor. They are housed together and are vertically placed on the left corner of the phone. Below the sensors is a LED flash and the words “AI CAMERA”. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner in the middle. The front cameras are a 13MP + 2MP duo.

Xiaomi recently launched its latest midrange model, the Redmi Note 6 Pro in Thailand after a long romance with the media via several leaks. As an aftermath of the launch, Xiaomi has slashed the price of the Redmi Note 5. The 3GB+32GB version is announced to be on sale for just 869 yuan ($126) on Mi Mall for a limited time. The offer is 230 yuan lower than the initial 1099 yuan price tag of the 3GB model. This price reduction doesn’t in anyway suggest the Redmi Note 6 Pro is the successor of the Redmi Note 5. But since both models are part of the Redmi Note series, it is just apt that the price of the Redmi Note 5 is adjusted to maintain its competitiveness.
The Redmi Note 5 was announced in February this year packing a 5.99-inch FHD+ Fullview display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and a 2.5D Curved glass on top. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 636 chipset paired with 3GB/4GB RAM. The main highlight of the Redmi Note 5 is perhaps the AI capable cameras it packs. The front panel of the Redmi Note 5 includes a soft LED flash-enabled 13MP selfie camera that carries support for AI portrait mode. The selfie camera also features pre-HDR which allows it to intelligently detect the background light to capture amazing selfie shots in dim-light conditions by accordingly configuring the front LED flash. The front-facing camera can also capture full HD videos.
In addition, the Redmi Note 5 features an aluminium unibody with an AI-driven dual rear camera arrangement at the top left corner. The camera is stacked vertically with the LED flash sitting between both rear shooters. The Redmi Note 5’s AI Dual Camera comprises a 12MP primary sensor that has a pixel size of 1.4micron and f/1.9 aperture along with a 5MP secondary depth of field sensor. It is equipped with features like dual autofocus, EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization), HDR, Burst Mode and Panorama. The dual rear cameras can also capture amazing AI driven portrait shots by naturally blurring the background. Apart from shooting full HD videos, it can also record 720p slow-motion videos. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The model is available in Gold, Black, Blue, Rose Gold as well as a Flame Red variant which joined the ranks recently.

Chipmaker Intel has responded to recent claims by Qualcomm that it was the recipient of the mobile chipmaker’s modem technology allegedly shared by Apple illegally. The response was contained in a press statement issued by Steve Rodgers, Intel’s vice president and general counsel who described the allegation as rhetorics. Mr Rodgers stated that his company would continue to puncture Qualcomm’s claims in court.
Among other things, he didn’t fail to tongue-lash Qualcomm for its anti-competition behaviour, noting the series of fines that have been slammed on the company. TheIntel VP also disclosed that Qualcomm failed to win its case on 88 patent claims it said were infringed by several products, including Intel’s modem. He also drew reference to another case where a federal judge found “considerable, compelling common proof” that Qualcomm had required companies “to accept a separate license to Qualcomm’s cellular [standard essential patents] in order to gain access to Qualcomm’s modem chips.” The scheme was labelled as a “no license, no chips” scheme that has been found to be part of Qualcomm’s anticompetitive conduct challenged in so many countries.
Qualcomm had claimed recently during the hearing of a lawsuit filed against Apple last year that the later has been sharing its code with Intel and that this began several years back. Qualcomm says it got a tipoff from an anonymous posting on a website that samples the opinion of people who claim to have been laid off by Intel. Apple’s latest iPhones now utilise Intel modem since ties with Qualcomm has been severed.
Xiaomi announced the Mi 8 Explorer Edition alongside the Mi 8 and Mi 8SE. While the other models have been on sale since their launch on May 31, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition has only gone on sale a couple of times since then. Xiaomi announced yesterday that the model will be on sale today (September 30) in China and rightly so, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition was made available via Xiaomi Mall. Interestingly, it seems to have gone out of stock once again as at the time of reporting. The device comes with a retail price tag of 3699 yuan ($538).
The Mi 8 Explorer edition has as one of its stand out features, a translucent glass back which shows the internal components in a beautiful way. The device doesn’t feature a fingerprint sensor at the back instead, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition has an on-screen fingerprint reader that enables users to unlock the phone by a simple touch. The display is equipped with a highly sensitive pressure sensor, so with just a light touch the fingerprint is scanned and the device unlocked. The device supports Face ID and also onboard is a Snapdragon 845 chipset.
The Mi 8 Explorer edition is fuelled by a 3000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0+ fast charge. The device is only available in 8GB + 128GB memory configuration. Since it is a limited edition model, it may finally be discontinued in favour of the Mi 8 Pro translucent glass back variant which was announced recently.
