Apparently, the TV will also be the first design of its kind.

Reportedly, multiple senior executives like Kim Hyun-seok and others from the South Korean tech giant, gave the upcoming top notch entertainment product a thumbs up. This implies that Samsung has plans to start mass production of the TV from February.

One of the notable aspects regarding the TV which sets it apart is its bezel-less display. In other words, the borders of the TV’s body are now more seamless with its display panel.

Samsung will be making this a basic feature for its TV series lineup sized 65 inches and larger. The company has achieved this by closely welding together the display panel and the main body of the TV; using equipment from the Shinsegye Engineering for the process. Additionally, Samsung also collaborated with another local supplier named Taewha Precision to supply the parts for the equipment.

Editor’s Pick: Huawei reportedly gets green light to provide Britain’s non-core 5G networks

According to one developer that worked on the upcoming product, the TV unlike “other bezel-less” TVs that still have bezels, actually offers “zero-bezels.” The developer stated that Samsung is the only company to have such an “extreme design” ready for production.

Samsung’s The Wall TV that utilizes microLED technology

Additionally, the source also mentioned that the company’s image display division has voiced concerns regarding the TV’s structural integrity; pointing out to the possible separation between the panel and main body of the TV. Unfortunately, finer details and exact specifications regarding the upcoming bezel-less TV are still at large and we will have to wait till CES 2020 for any official confirmations.

Even though the notch offers us a higher screen ratio, they are not very popular with fans. Most fans would rather not have a phone with the notch. No doubt, the era of flagship phones with 16:9 aspect ratio is gone so OEMs have ventured into sliding and pop-up camera designs as alternatives to the notch. But then, we have to grapple with the challenges of having a mechanical sliding design that raises concerns about durability. Huawei may have got a workable alternative to the notch that doesn’t involve using a slide or pop-up selfie cam.

The smartphone as envisioned in the patent document sports a notchless display which is joined by a thin chin and side bezels. Huawei is by all accounts playing with the possibility of an adjusted upper bezel. The top edge is curved in a pattern similar to Meitu’s iconic phone design. The outward curve creates enough space to house the selfie camera and audio receiver speaker. However, the design doesn’t look any spectacular.

Read Also: Sharp Aquos R3 with dual notches, IGZO display and Snapdragon 855 launched!

Huawei’s design will in all likelihood be utilized solely in the low-end and mid-tier segment whenever it is ready to be commercialized. In any case, since this plan is essentially a patent at this stage, there’s no assurance the tech giant will ever release a phone with this sort of design.

Despite the new design called Ambient Flow, the screen-to-body ratio is still higher than those of competitors. Will Sony ever make a bezel-less phone? It appears they have given it some thought.

In a self-published interview with its head of product planning, Ichino, we get to understand Sony’s view on the recent design change in the mobile phone industry.

Ichino said the company takes functionality and features into consideration when designing its phones. A phone with much smaller bezels will affect the position and functionality of certain features. If the screen is stretched, they may have to shrink the cameras or trade off features like stereo front-facing cameras.

It may even affect the experience while viewing content which is the reason why the Xperia XZ2 Premium sticks to a 16:9 aspect ratio. Ichino said an 18:9 aspect ratio would have resulted in borders around the content being viewed.

However, Sony says it will keep improving to achieve a balance between function and features and the current design trend. When such a phone will hit the market is anyone’s guess.

No one had heard of the Vivo APEX until yesterday. The Chinese manufacturer first released a teaser video on Facebook and Weibo before showcasing it at MWC. Now report says the Vivo APEX will launch next week Monday,5th of March.

Vivo has gotten a lot of international coverage this year. First it unveiled the Vivo X20 Plus UD world’s first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint scanner at CES. Now it plans to launch the APEX, a phone with nearly over 90% screen-to-body ratio and an in-display fingerprint scanner with a larger surface area.

The Vivo APEX also has a pop-up camera for selfies and uses Screen SoundCasting Technology. On the rear sits a dual camera setup.

The internal specifications are still unknown but there is a chance we may find out even before the official launch on Monday.

A few months ago, Doogee showed off a 3D demo for a completely bezel-less smartphone. All-screen, no notch, no single bezel, no reduced bezels. The usual arrangement of sensors, front camera, and earpiece were also absent or rather tucked away.

Doogee came to the conclusion that the only way to achieve a totally bezel-less phone was to give it a slide design much similar to the Nokia N95 from over a decade ago. Slide the phone downwards and it revealed the sensor, earpiece and front camera. Pretty neat, right?

Live photos posted on Twitter yesterday gave us our first look at the phone which is no longer just a design but now a real product. The pictures were shared by @VenyaGeskin1 and he says it is the Doogee Mix 4.

The Doogee Mix 4 has an aluminium body and even has a slim profile. Thickness was one of the things we were worried about when we first saw Doogee’s design. It also has dual rear cameras arranged vertically with a LED flash beneath the setup. However, it is missing the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner we saw in the demo. Our guess is that it is now embedded in the display.

There are no specification details yet and we are not surprised there is no launch date too. Its predecessor, the Doogee Mix 3 is not yet released, so it is understandable.

What do you think of Doogee’s design? Should other manufacturers embrace a slide mechanism too? Let’s know what you think.

However, our interest piqued when photos of the display panel of its successor, the Vivo X30 surfaced online.

Today, a new photo has leaked and this time it shows a working prototype. The picture shows Vivo’s brand ambassador, Lu Han, holding the alleged Vivo X30. If you zoom in closer, you should see the iPhone X-like notch at the top.

Thanks to the tri-bezel-less design, the Vivo X30 will likely have a smaller form factor than its predecessor. This is due to the removal of the area usually reserved for the top bezel. The small notch at the top is now home to the front camera, earpiece, and sensor. However, unlike the iPhone X, there is still a small bezel at the bottom.

READ MORE: Xiaomi, OPPO, And Vivo Are Against Broadcom’s Qualcomm Takeover Bid

There is no info with respect to the specs of the Vivo X30 but we expect it to pack flagship features albeit with the yet-to-be announced Snapdragon 670 processor for mid-range phones. It should also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

While most settled for reduced top and bottom bezels, a few others adopted a tri-bezel-less design, and Apple settled for a completely bezel-less design but with a notch at the top for the iPhone X. None of these designs are completely bezel-less for the simple reason that front cameras, sensors, and earpiece still need a place to stay. Doogee seems to have come up with a solution, one that is familiar.

Doogee has released a short video demoing a full-screen phone with a slide mechanism which it thinks might be the future of smartphone design.

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6iJbT3SKgE[/embedyt]

Rather than join the notch-trend, Doogee’s approach is a slide-mechanism similar to that of the Nokia N95. This design results in the phone sporting a true full-screen design as the front camera(s), earpiece, and sensors are hidden behind the screen and can be accessed by simply sliding down the phone.

This design however comes with one flaw – a thicker phone. Is the desire for a full-screen smartphone worth the addition of a few mm?

The design of the phone doesn’t end there. There are dual cameras and a fingerprint scanner on the rear. All three are stacked on top of one another in a vertical arrangement, and are separated by a dual LED flash. A few centimeters below is Doogee’s branding.

At the bottom of the phone is a USB-C port and speaker grilles. We can’t see the top but the only thing it will most likely house is a noise cancelling microphone.

It has so far launched entry-level and mid-range smartphones, but has not yet launched a premium smartphone. That is about to change soon as the company seems all set to launch a phone with top notch specs.

An upcoming smartphone from TP-Link under its Neffos line-up has been leaked, revealing the phone’s features. We also have a leaked press renders of the phone, giving us a look at what to expect in terms of smartphone’s design.

The smartphone, which is yet unnamed, resembles Samsung’s Galaxy S8. It will feature a full-screen bezel-less display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. There are virtually no bezels on either sides and on top and bottom, there are very thin bezels. At back, it seems that the device has a curved glass panel.

Since there is no space for buttons or anything else on the front side due to thin bezels, the fingerprint sensor is placed at the back of the device, just below the dual camera setup. While one camera sensor is of 16-megapixel, the other one is of 20-megapixel telephoto lens and will offer 2X optical zoom.

Under the hood, the phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 835 processor, along with 6GB of RAM. As of internal storage, it could come with upto 256GB of storage. More details about the phone, such as battery capacity, software, connectivity options are not yet known.

This upcoming Neffos smartphone from TP-Link suggests a drastic change in the company’s strategy as far as the smartphone business is concerned. It will be interesting to see how this device is received in the market, and if it will give incumbents a run for their money.

While the phone’s launch, pricing or availability details are not yet known, we are expecting TP-Link to launch the device before the end of this year.

Few months ago, it announced the Aquos S2 – a bezel-less smartphone with a similar design to the Essential Phone. Its latest phone announced in Japan today is the Aquos R Compact which also shares a similar design.

The Aquos R Compact is a smaller and less powerful version of the flagship Aquos R released earlier this year. The design is also different as it has little or no bezels on three of its sides unlike the Aquos R.

The phone has the same semi-circle cut-out in the display where the front facing camera is housed just like in the Aquos S2. However, its chin is bigger and is home to a fingerprint scanner/home button. Sharp has managed to squeeze a speaker at the top as well as a sensor.

The Aquos R Compact has a 4.9-inch FHD+ (2032 x 1080) IGZO display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 mobile platform paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.

There is a 16.4MP camera on the back with hybrid AF (PDAF + contrast focus) and an 8MP sensor in front for selfies. Battery capacity is 2,500mAh with support for Quick Charge 3.0. The Aquos R Compact has a USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, and even an IP68 rating. It also runs EMOPA 7.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

The company has started sending out media invites for an event that is taking place on 5th December in London.

The invite reads “Max Your View”, and mentions the date of December 5. The invite also shows the outline of a smartphone with extremely thin bezels, but it doesn’t reveal anything related to the phone in question.

However, the interesting thing is that while some have received invites with outlines of two smartphones, some invites only shows the outline of just one.

At the bottom, there is a logo which looks similar to “IOOI”. We are not sure what to make of it, but going by the tradition, the symbol “OO” — two Os usually stands for dual camera setup. So, we are assuming that the phone will feature dual cameras.

After dual cameras, bezel-less phones have now become a new thing in the smartphone industry. The trend, which started with the Mi MIX, has followed via many flagship smartphones, including Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Apple iPhone X, LG G6 and V30, and the more recently Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, and Google Pixel 2 XL, among others.

Given the fact that the recently launched Honor 9i features two cameras on the front as well as on the back, it will be interesting to see if the company continues the trend.

Yesterday, Honor launched its new smartphone — Honor 7X, which features a 5.93-inch Full HD+ display with slim bezels and 18:9 aspect ratio. It packs HiSilicon Kirin 659 octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM. The storage options include 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The camera includes a dual 16MP + 2MP camera setup at the rear and an 8MP shooter up front. A 3,340mAh battery with fast charging keeps it running.

It comes with HiSilicon Kirin 659 octa-core processor, paired with 4GB of RAM. The storage comes in three options — 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. The camera setup includes a dual 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel cameras at the rear and an 8-megapixel shooter up front. It is powered by a 3,340mAh battery with fast charging support.

The Honor 7X is available in Gold, Blue, and Black color options. The 32GB variant will sell for ¥1699 (~$200), the 64GB version will cost ¥1699 (~$260) and the 128GB model carries ¥1999 (~$304) price tag.

Its latest smartphone, the M6 Note is said to have even overshadowed the main flagship, the Meizu Pro 7. Both phones have taken a different approach to the current trend of full-screen displays. The Meizu Pro 7 sports two displays and the M6 Note is one of the company’s few devices that ticks all the right boxes. Does that mean Meizu won’t release a full-screen smartphone? VP Li Nan answered that in a recent interview.

Li Nan, VP of Blue Charm Brand

The Meizu top executive had said in a previous interview that the current trend of full-screen smartphones is the future. He added that the ideal form for full-screen smartphones hasn’t been reached as there is still an issue with the position of the front camera which can’t be removed as no one will be willing to buy a phone without a front camera.

We guess he’s referring to a completely bezel-less design where only the screen occupies the front. For the issue with the front camera, the only possible solution is to adopt the camera design of the Honor 7i, where the rear camera can be lifted up and used as a front camera.

Mr. Li Nan then announced that Blue Charm will launch a full-screen device next year with a price tag of about ¥3000 (~$463) before releasing lower priced ones.

Is the ¥3000 full-screen phone the mblu Zero we saw a few days ago in a teaser poster? No it isn’t. Meizu’s head of global marketing, Ard Boudeling, took to Twitter today to say the image isn’t genuine and isn’t from them. He also confirmed that the company is indeed working on a bezel-less device set for a 2018 launch.

Yes, we're working on a bezel-less Meizu device. Coming next year.

Ending the interview, Li Nan disclosed that Blue Charm phones will fall into four major categories:

Blue Charm X – this will be the flagship series

Blue Charm E – the E series will be targeted at the youth and business class. It will be priced at over a ¥1000 (~$154). The Meizu E2 belongs to this category

Blue Charm Note – this is the note series and the main line of the company. Pricing will be pegged at ¥1,000 (~$154).

Blue Charm base series – this category covers the other Meizu phones such as the U and non-note M series.

The tech giant is expected to release two models which would be known as Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Before now, there has been the rumour that the second-gen Pixel models would go official on October 5 which is the exact date the first-gen Pixel phones were launched last year.

Also, it was recently outed that the Pixel 2 and XL would feature the Snapdragon 836 chipset which is yet to be announced by Qualcomm. The SD 836 s expected to be slightly faster than the Snapdragon 835 processor which has been the Systems-on-Chip on most Android flagships this year so far. One interesting rumour concerning the Pixel phones is concerning the design. According to rumour, the difference between the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will not only in size but also in the design. Te Pixel 2 XL is said to feature a design which would see the display having ultra-thin bezels on all sides while the Pixel 2 will retain the design which the Pixel came with. This is as a result of the fact that the Pixel 2 will be manufactured by HTC while LG will manufacture the Pixel 2 XL. Last year’s models were manufactured in partnership with only HTC.

In addition to that, the larger Pixel phone will sport a 5.99-inch 1440p OLED display which will have a taller, bezel-less screen, while the Pixel 2 is expected to come in at 4.97-inch 1080p display with a lesser but equally good 1080p resolution but the display will have larger bezels. Both models are also expected to feature dual front speakers on both phones, squeezable displays similar to what we have on the HTC U11 as well as an always-on display mode. If rumours are anything to go by, then the second generation Pixel phones will not pack the 3.5mm audio jack.

Sharp has been making bezel-less smartphones for years before the Xiaomi Mi MIX was released last year. However, it was the popularity of the latter that kick-started the current craze for bezel-less and full-screen phones.

The latest report is that some of the other big names in China are planning to release full-screen phones before the end of the year. One of them is OPPO, the second biggest manufacturer in China and the fourth in the world.

The image above was released online recently and shows a user interface said to be for OPPO’s upcoming full-screen smartphone. The biggest change in the UI is the presence of on-screen buttons for navigation.

OPPO smartphones usually feature capacitive buttons (dots), with a large oval button serving as the home key/fingerprint scanner. Switching to on-screen buttons means the fingerprint scanner is probably moving to the back or to the side (power button) allowing for a display that stretches further downwards.

READ MORE: OPPO R11 FC Barcelona Edition Goes On Sale August 8

There is no way to confirm if the image is genuine as some phones let you switch between on-screen and capacitive buttons. So this may just be a case of switching from one to the other. There is no release date yet for OPPO’s full-screen smartphone but since sources say it is set for a H2 2017 release, we have from now till December.

While the Mi Mix would go on to take the main spotlight, the Mi Note 2 still commanded some admiration for its curved edge design and well-packed specs line-up.

The Mi Note 3 is expected to be the successor of the Note 2 and that device has been the subject of successive rumours and was even tipped to launch in the second quarter of the year. That isn’t likely now but there are talks of a Q3 launch for the flagship device. Ahead of whatever Xiaomi is planning out for the Mi Note 3, the render of the expected Note 3 was recently featured in a leaked video. The YouTube video seems to be the production of Science & Knowledge YouTube channel and obviously, the renders are fan-generated stuff. Despite that, you might just want to have a look because it features a full-screen display with very little bezels at the edges something that is expected on the actual Mi Note 3. Bezel-less displays with high screen ratio are the way to go and Xiaomi who is a pioneer in that field will not want to be caught napping.

Apart from the full-screen display, the renders also show the presence of a dual rear camera setup which is one thing that is trending lately. Earlier rumours had also tipped the Note 3 to feature dual cameras. The video also highlights the specs of the device but they are likely inaccurate. You can have a look at the video from below which looks very much like the Mi Mix, by the way. Details of the Mi Note 3’s specs are still sketchy but the flagship is expected to pack an OLED display and use a Snapdragon 835 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The device is said to sport a 5.8-inch display among others. We can’t say if Xiaomi will unveil the Mi Note 3 along with the Mi Mix 2 just the same way the Note 2 was launched with the Mi Mix last year. It would be interesting if they do anyway.

However, some manufacturers have been offering these designs long before now, prime example being Sharp. The Japanese manufacturer is said to be working on a new full-screen device and a live image has been leaked.

Sharp Full-Screen Phone

The image which was posted on Weibo by the general manager of Sharp’s mobile phone business unit in China looks very familiar. For those who do not know, the device not only looks exactly like Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone (PH-1) but the entire image is similar to the first leaked photo of the Essential phone.

Essential Phone

The display of the phone extends to the top and even has the exact same cut-out for the front facing camera. This could actually pass for the Essential Phone but we will have to wait to see if the specs are similar as well.

There is no mention of when Sharp will release its new phone but we believe a launch isn’t too far off.

Apart from the revelation that the device would feature a bezel-less display along with the Snapdragon 835 firepower, the Z17 is also coming with an IP67 water and dustproof build.

A short 15 seconds video clip demonstrating the waterproof property of the Nubia Z17 has appeared online on China’s Weibo. The video clearly shows the device under a running tap inside a sink and still operational! There wasn’t any sign of the functioning being affected by water and the picture still remained sharp and crisp clear. We don’t have many details to verify if really the device is the Nubia Z17 as the video only showed the front view of the device. But the smartphone seems to have a bezel-less display just as the Z17 is said to have. The phone also looks like the Nubia Z11 but the Z11 isn’t waterproof and so, could not have continued functioning under water. You can as well have a peek at the video from here (Weibo account required).

The Nubia Z17 has lately made a couple of appearances on TENAA and in benchmarks including AnTuTu where it was revealed that the flagship may take the bar to 8GB RAM on its topmost model. There is no doubt its launch is close by, considering that the device had even made a brief appearance on Nubia’s official website, perhaps as a test run or a teaser. The Z17 is also expected to come with a dual camera setup touted to be configured as a 23MP + 12MP camera combination. Further, the phone is said to feature the latest version of Android 7.1.1.

The other exciting part is that, the new device will also be taking on the Xiaomi Mi MIX with its bezel-less design.

LG kicked off the 18:9 aspect ratio with its LG G6‘ Full Vision Display. Samsung followed with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ which both have an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. While all three phones have shaved off a large part of their bezels, they still can’t match that of this new device Elephone is working on.

It is important to note that this device is still a prototype, so there is no info on when it will launch and how much it will cost. There are also no specification details available.

One thing you’d notice from the images is that there doesn’t seem to be a front camera, not even on the lower bezel like in the Mi MIX. But if you take a look at the rear camera, it’s designed in such a way that it can be raised up.

READ MORE: Elephone P25 Renamed Elephone P8, More “8” Coming this Year!

The phone also doesn’t seem to have a fingerprint scanner on the back or up in front, so it’s likely that it’s embedded under the display.

Are you excited about this new device? Will you be picking one up if the specs and price are right?

We have seen this trend start to pick up following the announcement of the Xiaomi Mi MIX. LG adopted something similar for the LG G6 and Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ are on the train too. Latest report coming in says Meizu is cooking something up as well.

The news comes from the official Meizu forum where it was reported that the Chinese manufacturer has applied for a patent for a new display. An excerpt from the patent filing shows a dis-assembled phone similar in design to that of the Galaxy S8 with the display stretching from top to bottom. A rough translation of the text mentions that the phone will use bone conduction technology for the speakers just like the Mi MIX that’s why there are is no cut-out for the earpiece. There is also no mBack button/fingerprint scanner, neither does the rear case show a cut-out for a fingerprint module. This points at a likelihood of it using on-screen buttons and sporting a biometric scanner embedded underneath the display.

Yesterday, we reported that the company seems to be working on an optical fingerprint scanner that will sit right under the screen. The hint was based on a screenshot of VP Li Nan forwarding an article on Apple’s optical fingerprint technology to a group of friends.

The image shows that the patent was filed as far back as August 2016. But we won’t be quick to assume that we might see a Meizu phone with the technology this year.

But the difficulty in mass producing a bezel-less smartphone isn’t deterring other companies from attempting similar ventures.

Recently, a set of leaked images of a Sharp smartphone revealed the company is working on its own bezel-less smartphone. We really won’t get too excited about this because, despite the innovative display style, we may end up not seeing the smartphone to buy. Sharp is a Japanese company and almost all its sales are in Japan. This isn’t Sharp’s first bezel-less smartphone, though, the company had launched the Sharp Aquos Crystal in 2014 without bezels at all the sides of the display.

The Sharp Aquos Crystal is said to have inspired the Xiaomi Mi Mix’s design which also came without bezels and has received lots of positive reviews and appraisals since it was unveiled last year. Sharp’s own leaked bezel-less smartphone features a high screen-to-body ratio but there is a physical home button which is rather weirdly tilted to the right edge of the screen and would possibly function as a fingerprint scanner. The smartphone is obviously a Sharp Aquos model as the name is written just under the display.

What looks like a selfie camera is located at the side of the fingerprint scanner and there is a notification strip around the display which would be cool if real. The rear view of the device reveals a single round camera with the LED flash circling the camera. There is also a laser autofocus at the side of the camera.

It is not clear if this is just a concept render which it looks like, or a real smartphone but either way we can only wish Sharp starts shipping its smartphones outside of Japan. Until that happens, don’t dream of buying this one if you don’t live in Japan.

We still don’t have them yet. Or do we?

While the leaks of the next iPhone have been pouring in, there has been no mention of it being bezel-less and it seems some Apple fans are not happy about it seeing as you already have bezel-less android phones like the Xiaomi Mi MIX. So what do you do when what you want is not available? You make it yourself, as seen from a video uploaded on YouTube of someone who repurposed his iPhone 6S Plus into a Xiaomi Mi MIX.

The video which shows the procedure was uploaded by Weibo user @Ye Ji-MIX. Although the final product looks a little unrefined we can’t help but praise his skills and ingenuity.

READ MORE: Unopened First Gen Apple iPod Carries Hefty $200,000 Price on eBay

The iPhone 6s MIX, let’s agree to call it that, while sporting most of its major parts comes off as bezel-less on three sides. The side with the bezel is the top since the the rear camera of the iPhone 6s Plus is at the top right corner. Settling to keep the camera cost him the Touch ID/home button which is housed on the lower bezel. Apart from that, everything else seems to work well.

Since the Xiaomi Mi Mix concept phone pioneered the launch of phones with bezel-less display and high screen to body ratio exceeding 90%, there have been several other bezel-less phones shown to be in development like the Meizu concept phone, Huawei’s own concept device etc. But this Sony Xperia Edge concept phone design isn’t actually from Sony but is designed by designer Metti Farhang who shared it recently.

The design is said to be for a Sony device named Xperia Edge apparently because of its double curved-edge design. The concept device also comes with what is termed a triple bezel-less display with the screen edges at the top and sides having less design bezels but curving all the way to the rear. The device doesn’t seem to be curved at the bottom edge where there is a slight screen space that isn’t covered by the display. The device is designed with onscreen capacitive virtual buttons though, in typical Sony fashion.

No doubt this draws comparison with the Xiaomi mi Mix already on sale and the Sharp Aquos Crystal that Japanese smartphone maker is said to be developing. The design seems to be smaller than the 6.4 inches the Mi Mix came and there is a dual camera setup at the rear which sits to one end of the phone’s rear.

Read More: Image of Meizu Bezel-Less Phone Leaks: Body-to-Screen Ratio Higher Than Mi MIX

We wouldn’t forget so soon that Huawei has a concept device up its sleeves dubbed Huawei Honor Magic that would utilise similar near bezel-less display, and a high screen-to-body ratio. Huawei’s own device is set for launch on December 16. The possibility that this Sony Xperia Edge concept phone design will fnd its way out is near zero since its not from the company.

Chief Engineer of S-LCD, (a South Korean LCD manufacturing company jointly owned by Samsung and Sony) Park Wonsang, has been reported by Korean media to have said that Samsung will launch phones that will have more than 90% screen-to-body ratio and will increase it further to 99% in the next couple of years, covering the top, sides, and chin. Mr Wonsang however declined to comment if the Galaxy S8 will be one of such phones.

The displays will be sophisticated flexible OLEDs reaching up to 99% of the phone’s height and possibly sporting an embedded fingerprint scanner.

The Elephone S7 turned out to be one such smartphone, all thanks to its bezel-less display that we managed to see in some pictures earlier. If you had doubts about the authenticity of the pictures, here’s a video directly from Elephone revealing the Elephone S7 in action. This is a prototype device, but at least confirms the design on the device.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTiHPvMg0CA&feature=youtu.be
So, the Elephone S7 will indeed feature a bezel-less screen and it will have 2.5D curved glass on top as well. The phone also comes with incell technology to make sure that the display looks vibrant and bright. It will be a 5.5-inch 1080p panel and in the video, the phone’s display looks pretty good.

First, it’s going to feature top-notch features and second, the price is going to be highly competitive

After the entry of LeEco into the smartphone market last year, we have seen some impressive phones from the company. The Le Max 2 is currently the company’s most powerful handset, coming with the mighty Snapdragon 820 and 6GB RAM (on the top-end variant). However, it’s been a few months since the phone’s release and according to previous rumors, we might meet an even powerful LeEco flagship with dual cameras on board later this year. This is supposed to be the company’s flagship for 2016 and it is expected to feature powerful hardware.

While we haven’t seen this rumored LeEco devices in pictures yet, a few hours ago, a set of concept pictures of the LeEco flagship emerged online. Well, the images sure make it look like a concept phone, because the design is just amazing. The display is going to be bezel-less and the screen to body ratio is nothing like we have seen before. Further, other pictures reveal that the handset is going to be super slim as well, and the overall design is refined, smooth and flagship worthy. The back reveals dual cameras on board along with a sleek metal body. Judging from the pictures, the phone could be extremely thin, thinner than most other flagship models!

Specs wise, it is rumored that the LeEco flagship will feature a 4K display, Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB RAM and dual cameras at the back.

Naturally, these specs and design are too good to be true for current smartphone tech standards. So, even though the design and specs look amazing, don’t expect this concept to make it to real life anytime soon.

Anyway, what do you think about this design? Although just a concept, this is definitely one of the best smartphone designs we have seen in a while.

The phone stands out from the crowd of affordable devices due to its bezel-less display. I have to tell you that it indeed looks great. However, the view on the very edges of the display is a little distorted to make that bezel-less look but I’m okay with that.

The 5.5” 1080p LCD panel itself is great. It is sharp and crisp, and color reproduction is good.

We have a 5MP selfie shooter along with the non-customisable multi-colour LED flash on the top and on-screen navigation buttons instead of capacitive ones.

Also, the phone sports a premium all-metal design with nano-injected antenna lines and great build quality. The buttons are nice and tactile and the phone feels very nice in the hand. We don’t see a side fingerprint scanner very often on budget phones but it is actually very convenient to reach. The scanner is not the fastest I’ve tested but it gets the job done.

As far as camera, we have a 16MP Samsung shooter coupled with a dual LED flash.

The loudspeaker is on the bottom and it sounds tinny as on most of budget phones.

You can put either 2 SIMs or 1 SIM and the microSD card in this hybrid slot. I love the supplied SIM ejector pin. You can just insert it in the headset jack and leave it there.

Ulefone Future Review: HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

Ulefone Future has some pretty good specs. The phone ships with an octa-core Mediatek Helio P10 chip with the clock speeds of 2GHz, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. These are pretty good specs for the price of the phone to say the least.

The gaming performance is good if you play games on medium graphics. If you set graphics to maximum, you should expect quite a bit of stutter and some skipped frames.

The daylight image quality is pretty good yet not always consistent. You can get some nice and detailed shots but camera may struggle with dynamic range in some situations.

The low-light camera performance is not so great but this is what you usually get with the phones in this price range, anyway.

The selfie camera is not very impressive but it will be enough for social media.

The 1080p video quality is pretty good for a budget phone. See a video review for a video sample.

Ulefone Future Review: CONNECTIVITY

I didn’t have any connectivity issues with the phone as the signal reception was good and the call quality was decent. Also, the Wifi worked fine. GPS may take a little longer to get the position but it is pretty accurate.

Ulefone Future Review: BATTERY LIFE

The 3000mAh battery can be fully charged 1 hour and 30 mins thanks to the included fast charger.

The battery life is pretty good. I could get over 4 hours of screen-on time on a mixed use.

Ulefone Future Review: CONCLUSIONS

Ulefone Future is one of those devices that wants to stand out from the crowd and the company succeeded in quite a few ways.

The bezel-less display design indeed looks great, the phone sports some great specifications, all-metal construction is premium and the phone looks and feels more expensive than it costs.

Also, we have a decent camera for daylight images, a fingerprint sensor and a fast charge support.
