OPPO is now prepping up to launch its next F and R series of smartphones. A leaked image that had surfaced recently had revealed that the company has already started advertising the upcoming R17 smartphone in China. Also, a newer image that was spotted yesterday suggested that the R17 will be coming with a smaller notch than the one present on the OPPO R15 and OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition that were unveiled earlier this year. OPPO Malaysia has now started teasing the arrival of the OPPO F9 smartphone. The teaser of the F9 has revealed that it would be also arriving with a smaller notch.

The OPPO F7 that was unveiled earlier this year had arrived with a notched display. The smartphone featured a 25-megapixel front-facing camera inside the notch. The teaser of the upcoming OPPO F9 shows that it is equipped with a smaller notch than F7. Through the Twitter handle, OPPO Malaysia has claimed that it will be equipped with a waterdrop screen. Probably, through the company may elaborate more on it. There is a possibility that the phone could be equipped with IP67 rated chassis.

The arrival of the F9 series could be close at hand as F9 and F9 Pro smartphones was recently spotted with Bluetooth certification. The Chinese manufacturer may announce the OPPO F9 series in the coming month. At present, there is no information on the specifications of the OPPO F9 and F9 Pro.

The recently spotted leaked image (shown above) that is said to belong to the forthcoming R17 smartphone also features a notch. Probably, the image belongs to the F9 or there is a possibility that both the smartphones may feature the same display design.

In the previous week, PBCM00 and PBCT00 OPPO phones were spotted at TENAA with identical specs and images. Their TENAA listings are yet to be updated with full information, but some of the details that have surfaced so far include 156.7 x 74 x 7.9mm dimensions, 6.3-inch display and 3,415mAh battery. Since the measurements and specs of PBCM00 and PBCT00 are similar to OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition, it is likely that these phones may get official R17 and R17 Pro.

While other models went on sale in May, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition was supposed to go on sale on July 24 but it was delayed by a week. Now, the company has revealed that the Mi 8 Explorer Edition with transparent back will be available from July 30.

After waiting for about two months, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition with translucent back will finally be available for purchase in China today for the first time. It is priced at 3,699 Yuan, which roughly converts to $545 and will be available at 07:30 PM in China.

The translucent glass back shows the internal components of the smartphone in a beautiful way. However, it was recently revealed that the translucent back isn’t showing the real internals. Also, instead of the regular fingerprint sensor, the device comes with an on-screen fingerprint reader that enables users to unlock the phone by a simple touch. It also supports Face ID for unlocking the device with facial recognition.

The smartphone features a 6.21-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a screen-to-body ratio of 83.8 percent and 1080 x 2248 pixels screen resolution with 402ppi pixel density. The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro flagship smartphones are expected to debut in October this year to replace the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro phones from 2017. A tipster from China has shared some specifications of the Mate 20 Pro smartphone. Moreover, he has also shared of the phone.

A previous report had claimed that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is expected to arrive a notch-less dual edge curved screen. However, the alleged Mate 20 Pro that has appeared in the leaked image seems to feature a notch-less flat screen. The display is surrounded by super-slim bezels on all sides. Hence, the handset is expected to offer a very high screen-to-body ratio. The selfie snapper is not visible which suggests that it could be featuring a pop-up front camera.

Apart from sharing the image of the alleged Mate 20 Pro, the leakster has also revealed some of its key specifications. OnePlus 6, the China-based company’s current flagship smartphone, is having issues related to the display, according to some users who have been using the OnePlus 6 smartphone.

Several users of the OnePlus 6 smartphone have taken to Reddit, OnePlus Forums and a few others website to report issues related to the phone’s display. The users are complaining about the screen flickering under bright sunlight when adaptive brightness is enabled.

Reports suggest that when the adaptive brightness is enabled and the phone is exposed to sunlight, even the slight movements by the user kicks off flickering as the phone shifts back and forth to different brightness levels. The said issue is more noticeable with white content and vivid colors.

The issue seems to have started last month after OnePlus started rolling out OxygenOS 5.1.8 update and it seems that the recent OxygenOS 5.1.9 update for the OnePlus 6 has not fixed the issue. A user of the device claimed that clearing the cache fixes the problem, at least for the time being.

However, OnePlus has reached out to the user and has requested a log with recordings of the screen. As the company has started looking into the issue, we expect the company to soon release an update or a patch to fix this flickering issue. In the meantime, users who are facing the issue can disable the adaptive brightness until the fix is released.

Meizu has a launch event coming up on Aug. 8 for unveiling Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus smartphones. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed through its official Weibo account that apart from unleashing Meizu 16 series smartphones, the company will be also announcing Meizu Gravity speaker.

In May 2016, Meizu had teased the arrival of Meizu Gravity speaker. Since it had encountered technical difficulties in mass producing the speakers, the Chinese manufacturer could not release it. However, the company seems to be all set to debut it officially alongside the Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus speakers on Aug. 8.

Meizu Gravity is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker that features a pair of 1.25-inch full-range speakers. An aux port is also available on the device. Compared to conventional speakers, Meizu Gravity offers 30 percent more magnetic flux density. The high sensitivity speaker by Meizu has been built in partnership with Dirac to ensure impressive audio.

The Meizu Gravity has a compact form factor as it measures 262 x 58 x 74mm. Since it features a transparent acrylic base, it appears as it the speaker is floating in the air. It is also equipped with a prism heads-up display that shows track information on the transparent surface. The design of the floating speaker with floating display was conceived by Kosho Tsuboi, a well-known designer from Japan.

Google Pixel 3 XL live shots reveal front, rear design

Google is expected to announce the new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones in October. In the previous, 360-degree renders of the Pixel 3 XL. Some fresh photos of the prototype of the same smartphone have surfaced to show its front and rear design.

As it can be seen in the images below, the front side of the Pixel 3 XL is black whereas it features a white colored rear shell. The front panel seems to be mainly dominated by a tall aspect ratio display that features a notch which seems to be housing dual selfie cameras. An earpiece that doubles up as a frontal speaker is also present inside the notch. Another speaker is present on the bottom bezel of the Pixel 3 XL.

The rear side of the phone continues to feature dual-tone construction like the predecessor model. The upper glass portion with frosted appeal features an LED flash enabled camera and a fingerprint reader. The remaining part of the rear shell is made out of glossy glass, unlike the predecessor model that featured metallic plate. The rear view of the Pixel 3 XL in these images is another confirmation that it won’t be featuring dual camera setup like other rivaling flagship phones.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 pricing leaked for 128 GB and 512 GB models

The arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is still more than a week away. However, the rumor mill has already revealed plenty of information on the upcoming Samsung phablet. The latest leak has revealed the pricing of 128 GB and 512 GB storage editions of the Note 9 for the Indonesian market. The official names of the different color variants of the smartphone for the same region have also surfaced in this leak.

As it can be seen in the leaked promotional posters, the 128 GB and 512 GB storage versions of the Galaxy Note 9 are respectively priced at 13,500,000 Indonesian rupiah (~$937) and 17,500,000 Indonesian rupiah (~$1,215). There is no information available on whether the Indonesian market will be receiving the 64 GB model.

It seems that Indonesia will be receiving the Galaxy Note 9 in three color options in Indonesia such as Mystic Black, Engineered Blue and Artisan Copper. Through the promotional posters it has been also revealed that customers who pre-order the Note 9 will be receiving free Samsung TV. In other countries too, the South Korean company will offer some exciting pre-order gifts for the buyers of Note 9.

There is no information on the other specs of the Note 9 variant that will be landing in Indonesia. The rumors surrounding the smartphone have revealed that it will be equipped with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display that produces 18.5:9 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels. The Exynos 9810 is likely to power the Note 9 variants that will be made available in international markets including Indonesia. The SoC will be coupled with 6 GB of RAM. However, the rumor mill has claimed that some markets may get its 8 GB RAM model.

The Note 9 is expected to inherit the same dual 12-megapixel camera setup with variable aperture that is available on the Galaxy S9+. A Bluetooth enabled S Pen with versatile features is expected to accompany the Note 9. A 4,000mAh battery will be present under the hood of the phablet.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 actual renders showcases its front and rear design

Samsung is set to unleash the Galaxy Note 9 on August 9 when it scheduled to hold the Galaxy Unpacked event. The Korean company may, in reality, unpack not just the Galaxy Note 9 but a number of other products. A leaked render showing the Galaxy Note 9 in three colours also contained an earbud, smartwatch (likely the Gear S4) and a wireless charging dock. More importantly, the renders which were first featured by Android Headlines shows the front and rear design of the Samsung flagship Note series model.

The pictures above reaffirms rumours that the Galaxy Note 9 will have an appearance that is very similar to the Galaxy Note 8 from last year. Fresh renders of the Note 9 have surfaced today to reveal its front and rear design. The images shos the presence of dual curved edge screen with slim bezels at the top and bottom like the Galaxy Note 8. The rear design almost looks similar to the Note 8 except that the position of the fingerprint reader is different. In this case, the fingerprint scanner sits in an awkward position under the rear camera sensors and not beside it. The rear camera setup is a dual setup with the main sensor looking obviously bigger.

In addition, there is the presence of capacitive buttons for volume controls and power on the left side while the Bixby button is located on the left side of the display. The renders capture the Note 9 in three different colours; Black, Blue and Brown. We still await the arrival of the official photos of the device. So we can’t be very certain that this is indeed the final design of the Galaxy Note 9 or not. In any case, the device will be official unveiled in just a little over a week.

Honor Magicbook Touchscreen variant arrives with a competitive price tag

Honor’s first laptop the Magicbook was first unveiled in April this year. The company later announced a Sharp Ryzen edition sporting an AMD processor in May. Presently, a new touchscreen version has been added to the mix. The new Honor Magicbook touchscreen version is presently on reservation at Jingdong for an undisclosed price.

The touchscreen version comes with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080pixels and is equipped with a 10-point touchscreen with full fit technology. Honor made the touchscreen version to be available for the Intel Core i5-powered Magicbook which has 8GB of RAM as well as 256GB of SSD. The touchscreen is also available for the variant powered by an AMD R5 2500U processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD. Even though the actual price tags weren’t disclosed, Honor teased during that the Core i5 variant would be priced at 5,?99. That means it will come in at less than 6000 yuan ($880). Galaxy Note 4 Explosion victim in China claiming 1.6million yuan (~$248k) in damages in court

Back in March 2017, it was reported how a four-year-old girl named Feng Yue suffered second degree burns to her face after her dad’s Samsung phone “exploded” next to her while she slept. The girl’s father claimed the Galaxy Note 4 smartphone he bought in August of the previous year from a retailer had an expanded battery which then exploded while being charged on the bedside table. Samsung’s China office reportedly offered the family £1,189 (10,000 RMB) to cover the girl’s medical bills. The last is yet to be heard of the incident as Feng Yue’s father has filed a civil suit against Samsung in the Xiqing District Court of Tianjin.

The lawsuit had as defendants Tianjin Samsung Communications Technology Co., battery maker Samsung Vision Limited and a distributor Guizhou Flerida Technology company as well as the third-party supplier from whom the ill-fated phone was purchased. The lawsuit seeks to get Samsung as well as the other three co-defendants to compensate the little Feng Yue for the disability caused by the incident. It also seeks to get the Korean tech giant and others to cover the cost of her treatment in its entirety. These are all summed up to about 1.6 million yuan (~$248,000).

Before now, Feng Lingling who is the father of the victim had tried to get Samsung to compensate her for the damages but Samsung had hinted that the battery which was inside the Galaxy Note 4 wasn’t manufactured by it. The Note 4 explosion was clearly traced to the battery. In this case, it may be a lengthy legal tussle for the family to get anything out of Samsung.

OxygenOS 5.1.4 update brings improved battery life to the OnePlus 5/5T via Sleep Standby Optimization

A new update is rolling out to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. The update comes as OxygenOS 5.1.4 and is supposed to improve battery life. It also comes with July’s security patch.

OnePlus has added a toggle under setting called “Sleep Standby Optimisation”. When activated, it shuts down the network when you are asleep which should translate to a longer battery life but also means notifications won’t arrive on your device in time.

“The system intelligently identifies your sleep pattern based on the phone’s usage,” says OnePlus. Just before you wake up, network restrictions are canceled and then your notifications come in.

The toggle is located under battery optimizations under the battery settings menu. You have to tap the three dots at the corner to access Advanced optimization and then the toggle.

Leaked images of the OPPO R17 show a redesigned notch

This year, OPPO’s R15 series smartphones arrived earlier compared to the OPPO R11 and OPPO R11 Plus of last year. That means their successors should arrive early too. However, it appears OPPO won’t go with its usual tradition of adding an “S” to their names but will go for new names entirely. So instead of the OPPO R15s and R15s Plus, we may be getting the OPPO R17 and OPPO R17 Plus according to latest reports.

The name OPPO R17 was first spotted at a media event sponsored by OPPO and a few days later, an unknown OPPO device thought to be the R17 was seen at TENAA. Now live photos said to be that of the device have surfaced, giving us an early look at the phone.

The first photo is of the front panel of the device. The bezels are thin and about the same size as that of the R15 duo but the major difference is the design of the notch. Instead of an iPhone-X style notch, the panel has a notch that looks like a small valley.

The second picture is of what we believe to be a working prototype. It shows the upper part of the phone with the display powered on. As you can see, the notch takes up a much smaller space and is home to the camera. We are sure there are other sensors hidden around too.
