Just last week, Huawei announced that the Mate 10 series would get updated to EMUI 8.1 (Android 8.1 Oreo) in July. In trying to keep to its promise, it announced yesterday that it has begun recruiting beta testers.
The announcement was made via the official EMUI Weibo account and it includes a link to supported versions and instructions on how to enter for the open beta.

Few hours ago, Xiaomi confirmed on the color variants of the upcoming Redmi 6 Pro smartphone. The official renders have already revealed the design of the phone. Fresh set of photos of the actual Redmi 6 Pro have been shared by Phoenix Technology, a Chinese tech site to reveal its appearance in full glory.
The live photos seem to belong to the Rose Gold edition of the Redmi 6 Pro. The metallic rear of the phone sports the Rose Gold color. However, the frontside of phone is black in color. The Redmi 6 Pro that sports a notched display design features a thick-sized chin. The notch houses the selfie camera and an earpiece.
The rear side of the Redmi 6 Pro looks like the Redmi Note 5 Pro as it features a vertically arrange dual camera setup. The fingerprint reader is placed on the backside of the phone as is there is no space to accommodate it on the front. The upper and lower portion of the back panel that houses the antennas of the phone seems to be made out of plastic.
The bottom side of the Redmi 6 Pro has a microUSB 2.0 port which seems to be placed between a pair of speakers. The upper edge of the phone is not visible in these photos. It could be housing the 3.5mm audio jack. The top edge could be also featuring an IR blaster which is not available on the recently announced Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A smartphones. The volume rocker and power key are positioned on the right edge of the phone. The SIM compartment that also features a microSD card slot could be present on the left edge of the Redmi 6 Pro.
The Redmi 6 Pro will be arriving in other colors like Sand Gold, Lake Blue, Black and Flame Red. The specifications of the smartphone include 5.84-inch 19:9 aspect ratio display with FHD+ resolution, Snapdragon 625, 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera, 5-megapixel selfie snapper, up to 6 GB of RAM, up to 64 GB of storage and 4,000mAh battery.
Yesterday, OPPO announced the arrival of the OPPO Find X flagship phone through a launch event in Paris, France. The smartphone will be available in select European nations such as France, Italy, Spain and Netherlands from August. The Find X will be also heading to the U.S. Today, Chinese retailer Jingdong has confirmed the arrival of Find X in China. At 10 AM, the retailer began the reservations of the smartphone in the home country. The official sales of the OPPO flagship will begin on June 29.
Even though OPPO and Jingdong have confirmed the June 29 release date for Find X smartphone in China, the cost of the phone is yet to be confirmed. Meizu India had introduced the Meizu PRO 7 smartphone was in India in the previous month after advertising its arrival on social media. It seems that the Chinese manufacturer has also released the Meizu M6 phone in India as it has been found listed on Amazon India through third-party seller.
The handset was launched in September 2017 in China in two models such as 32 GB storage + 3 GB RAM and 16 GB storage + 2 GB RAM with respective pricing of 699 Yuan and 899 Yuan. Also, the smartphone was made available in multiple colors like black, blue, silver and gold. The MediaTek MT6750 chipset that features an octa-core processor that clocks at 1.5 GHz is present under the hood of Meizu M6. The handset includes a microSD card slot for additional storage. It is fitted with a rear mounted camera of 13-megapixel and a frontal shooter of 8-megapixel. The handset is packed with a 3,070mAh battery.
In related news, Meizu’s Founder Jack Wong has confirmed that the Meizu 16 series will be debuting in August. The Meizu 16 series is expected to include Snapdragon 845 powered Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus smartphones. It is speculated that there will be a lower version of the Meizu 16 that will feature Snapdragon 710 SoC. The Meizu 16 phones are expected to arrive with some advanced features such as 8 GB of RAM, notch-less display with in-screen fingerprint reader, special heat dissipation system, triple camera setup and 32W fast charging.
The OPPO Find X is the trending device this week. Nokia X6 is HMD Global’s first smartphone with a notch design and since it was launched last month in China, the global rollout is strongly anticipated by fans of the Nokia brand. The company is yet to reveal when the phone will be launched for the international market but a recent listing suggests that may happen soon. The Nokia X6 was abruptly listed on Nokia’s website on Wednesday but the listing was removed within a short space. That is not before it has been spotted by eagle-eyed reporters. A Google cache version of the webpage is even available.
The listing could be an intentional one, just to tease the impending launch. From the photo, it is clear the device will come with the same design as the China version. The specifications are likely similar except for perhaps the user interface. The International version is expected to ship with stock Android 8.1 Oreo as part of the Android One program.
As a reminder, the Nokia X6 features a large 5.8-inch FHD+display with a notch and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 processor and there is the choice of either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. The device also comes in 32GB and 64GB internal storage versions. The Nokia X6 equally comes with a dual camera setup at the rear consisting of a 16MP main sensor and a 5MP secondary Bokeh camera. At the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera and keeping the lights on is a 3060mAh battery. The device is expected to be launched in the international market in July and should cost around $300.
OPPO has officially unveiled a new mid-range model in Taiwan dubbed OPPO A73s. The device looks like a direct successor of the A73 and both designs are similar. But the A73s comes powered by MediaTek’s latest Helio P60 mid-range chipset as against the Helio P23 chip which the A73 features. Another spectacular thing is the similarity of the A73s specs and design to that of India’s Realme 1.
The OPPO A73s comes with a 6-inch FHD+ LCD display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080pixels. The phone offers up to 84.75% screen ratio and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is also equipped with a 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB of internal storage. There is an independent microSD slot for expanding the internal storage and the device equally packs dual SIM slots.
The A73s is fuelled by a 3410mAh battery which is a tad bigger than the battery cells on the A73 and even the A75. Of course, there is the VOOC fast charging technology onboard so there is no fear f running out of battery power. The A73s gets its interface from an Android 8.1 Oreo-based Color OS 5.1. The OPPO A73s camera is designed with Beauty AI technology. The device packs a single 13MP rear camera with AI smart beauty, AI smart scene recognition while at the front is an 8MP selfie camera.
The A73s is available in Red and Black colours. The Black coloured variant has the same diamond-textured back panel design as the Realme 1 but there is no rear fingerprint sensor. The phone only features Face Unlock. As for the pricing, the A73s will sell for TWD8,990 (approximately $297). The device will be available to buy in Taiwan later this month.
The name still sounds off, but hate it or love it, Motorola has a new Android One phone in the works called the Moto One Power and live images of the said phone have surfaced online.
Motorola will add to the growing list of devices with a notch with the Moto One Power. One of the live photos shows the notch will house a camera, sensor, speaker and a LED flash. The added LED flash makes the notch bigger than that of the Lenovo Z5. Even with the notch, the screen of the Moto One Power doesn’t stretch to the top and even though this is a black unit, you can clearly see the top bezel.

The live photos don’t show the bottom half of the screen, but we believe it is no different from the Lenovo Z5. However, there are images of the sides which show it has a SIM tray on the left while a power button and volume rocker sit on the right.
The Moto One Power also copies the dual rear camera arrangement of the iPhone X. The camera housing is slightly raised and in between the two sensors sit a LED flash. There is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner which also has the Motorola batwing logo. There is also Android One written at the bottom.
The phone has a USB-C port at the bottom and it is flanked on both sides by a speaker grille. Don’t get your hopes high, the Moto One Power will most likely not have stereo speakers.
The Moto One Power has a glass front and metal back. It is not a design we haven’t seen before, so it will score no points for appearance.
Coming to specs, leaks have revealed that the phone will have a 6.2-inch screen, a Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It will also pack a 12MP + 5MP dual camera combo on the rear and an 8MP selfie camera. Its battery capacity is put at 3780mAh and it will have Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed.
Huawei, which is among the leading smartphone manufacturers in the world, is reportedly working on a new chipset named Kirin 1020, which is expected to twice as powerful as the company’s current flagship chipset Kirin 970.
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has been using its own in-house developed mobile chips on a majority of its smartphones, as well as for smartphones under its sub-brand Honor. There are many benefits to this practice, including low costs, differentiating factor compared to others, and less dependency on third-parties, among others.
If the latest reports are to be believed, then the China-based company is working on a new flagship chipset by the name Kirin 1020. The report coming from China claims that the performance of Kirin 1020 will be double compared to Kirin 970.
But, no details related to the said chipset is available at this time. Sources say that the Kirin 1020 chipset will go into mass production once the first 5G network launches, and will soon after be used in the company’s smartphones.
The HiSilicon Kirin 970 is the company’s current top-end mobile chipset, which was the first mobile chipset in the world to have AI chip on board. It is an 8-core CPU with a clock speed of up to 2.4GHz i.e. 4 x Cortex A73 at 2.4GHz + 4 x Cortex 53 at 1.8GHz. It has a 12-core Mali G72MP12 GPU that provides a 20% performance increase over the previous generation as well as a 50% increase in efficiency.
However, the performance on the Kirin 970 is not on-par with that of Snapdragon 845 from Qualcomm, which is currently dominating the mobile chipset market. But HiSilicon’s upcoming Kirin 980 chipset is expected to have better performance than Qualcomm‘s flagship chipset as it will be manufactured using 7nm design process by TSMC.
Qualcomm has been dominating the mobile chipset market and has little to no competition in the high-end space. However, that could soon change as the companies like Huawei and Samsung are working to come up with powerful chips.
Last month, Samsung said that it was in talks with several Chinese manufacturers, including ZTE, to provide its own Exynos mobile chipsets. The company has been using Exynos mobile chipsets for its own flagship smartphones under its Galaxy lineup. As for the external customers of its mobile chipsets, it has only one client — Meizu.
On the other hand, a couple of months ago, Huawei said that it is not positioning its chipset business as an independent business and does not aim to generate income by selling it to other manufacturers.
Panasonic has been churning out a lot of entry-level to mid-range phones in India lately. Its latest phone is the Panasonic P90 which can be referred to as a MediaTek version of the P95 released last month.

Along with the regular Find X comes a special edition that brings even more features to the mix. The OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition as it is known is the product of a collaboration between OPPO and carmaker Lamborghini.
The OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition features a carbon fibre back with a 3D Lamborghini logo crested on the bottom part. The device equally comes with a massive 512GB of internal storage. Perhaps the main feature of the customized edition which differentiates it from the regular Find X is the Super VOOC Flash Charge technology. Super VOOC is faster – allowing you to charge a 2500mAh battery in just 15 minutes or up to 45% in just 5 minutes. That is what OPPO claims its SuperVOOC is capable of when it was announced in 2016.
In this case, the Find X Lamborghini Edition retains the 3,400mAh battery on the regular model.OPPO says it will take Super VOOC fast charging only 35 minutes in order to get this battery from 0 to 100%. In order to achieve this, OPPO packs in a 10V/5A (50W) Super VOOC charge along with the OPPO Find X Lamborghini Limited Edition handset.
Aside from the SuperVOOC fast charge, a larger 512MB storage, and the Carbon fibre back and Lamborghini logo, the special edition is similar in specification and design to the regular Find X. It retains the 6.42-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) AMOLED display as well as 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There is a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection atop the display while the phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 processor. The processor is paired with 8GB of RAM and it ships with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, with OPPO’s ColorOS 5.1 skin. As for the price, the Find X Lamborghini Edition is priced at €1,699 ($1,970), and it comes in a special packaging which is noticeably different than the Find X’s packaging. Sale of the model is expected to commence in August at the same time with the regular model.
The launch of the Vivo NEX and of late, the OPPO Find X may kickstart a surge in the number of full-screen, truly bezel-less phones. Nubia was among the first of OEMs to launch phones having thin-bezels. The company is now set to take its own bezel-less phone design to the next level with the Nubia Z18. Leaked renders of the Z18 shows the device will come with super thin bezels. A new leaked photo of the Z18 has now emerged to further confirm the display design.
There is hardly any feature to ascertain that this is the Z18 except for the camera interface. The camera UI is exactly the same as that of the Nubia Z17s as shown in the picture below. The Nubia Z18 looks different in design, though, as the bezels are very thin on all four sides. The bezels are very thin such that it is impossible to house the front camera up there. There is no sign of the sensor being located at the chin but we can’t say if it will pack a pop-up camera.
The Nubia Z18 was expected to feature a notch design on its display similar to the Essential Phone but this new photo shows no such design. But the screen-to-body ratio looks a lot higher than those of previous Nubia models. As far as the hardware goes, the Z18 is expected to feature a 5.99-inch display with an FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM and 64 GB storage on one model. There will be a higher model with 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. It features a 3,350mAh battery and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo. The Z18 is also expected to feature a dual camera setup at the rear comprised of a 24-megapixel main sensor and it has a selfie snapper of 8-megapixel. The phone also packs a rear fingerprint scanner.
The famous battery maker Energizer has unveiled a new smartphone focused on toughness and durability: its name is Hardcase H500S. It is an affordable device but also a solid rugged phone. It features a slim but resistant body with IP68 certification, so it is dust-resistant as well as waterproof (up to 1.2m deep for 30 minutes at max).
Further, the device is able to survive drops from a height of one meter and it has a display protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. Even though it is a rugged handset, Energizer Hardcase H500S has a thickness of just 10 mm. Its display is a classic 5-inch panel with an HD resolution: a panel with a very low consumption which helps its 3000 mAh lithium unit to reach a very long battery life. It can provide up to 22 hours of talk time.
On the hardware side, there is a quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor running at a max frequency of 1.3 GHz. The SoC is paired with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. There is a single 13 MP camera on the rear side, a 5 MP selfie camera and Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Energizer Hardcase H500S also includes a hybrid dual SIM slot.
Apple does not reinvent the design of its iPhones very often, but when it does, it is always a revolution. Now, it seems that even Samsung is going to follow this strategy. After releasing a Galaxy S9 which is just a slight upgrade of the innovative S8 in terms of aesthetics, the company has been tipped to release Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with the same design of its predecessor Note 8. Or at least this is what a new leak has revealed. The new leaked image is a live photo of the alleged front panel of the upcoming flagship phablet.
It has been posted by the known tipster Ice Universe on Twitter and, according to the photo, the form factor of the handset will be the same notch-less one. The display is curved on the sides and the position of the sensors is similar to the Note 8: the only noticeable difference is that Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has thinner bezels on the upper and lower part of the front panel. So, we expect to see a slightly bigger display in a body with the same dimensions as Note 8. Indeed, according to rumors, the phablet will feature a 6.4-inch display with the Super AMOLED technology and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio (0.1 inches bigger than Note 8).
Recently a report revealed that the device will come in a variant with whopping 512 GB of internal storage (available in select markets only) and a huge battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh. So, we may finally see the first Galaxy Note device with an above-average battery since the Note 7 scandal. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will come with the same processor of the Galaxy S9: the octa-core Exynos 9810 or the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, depending on the market. It is also said to come with a dual cameras on its rear side which should retain the variable aperture seen on the S9 Plus.
