Gionee S9 with 4GB RAM, Helio P10 Appears on AnTuTu

Gionee‘s first smartphone coming with a dual rear camera set up was recently spotted on TENAA where it got certified. The TENAA listing gave us a peek of the device’s render as well as some of its specifications. The Gionee S9 has again appeared on benchmark site AnTuTu which does nothing but confirm the TENAA listed specifications and perhaps gives us the idea that a launch is imminent.

gionee s9

From the AnTuTu listing, the Gonee S9 features a Full HD (1080 pixels) resolution which would be on a 5.5-inch display, at least we know the display size from the TENAA data. The AnTuTu data further reveals a MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755) octa-core processor would power the expected flagship device while a Mali-T860 GPU will power the graphics. There is also a memory combination of 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage on the device.

On the camera end, the Gionee S9 crams a 13MP front camera as well as a 13MP primary sensor at the rear. The rear camera, though, as revealed by the device’s appearance on TENAA is a dual camera set-up with the secondary or depth of field camera sporting a 5MP sensor. Additionally, the Gionee S9 comes pre-installed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

6.4” Lenovo Phablet With Low-Range Specifications Shows Up at TENAA (Updated)

A new Lenovo phone with a massive 6.47-inch display has surfaced on TENAA apparently to get its network certification. The specifications of the new phone can’t be compared to what you have on other large screen phones like the Xiaomi Mi Max or the Meizu M3 Max.

The phone which has model number PB2-650N sports a 6.47” HD display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, an 8MP rear camera, and a 5MP front facing camera.

It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, has a SD card slot (128GB max) and a 4050mah battery which should provide enough screen time since it has a 720p resolution.

The image on TENAA however shows the display having thin side bezels and lacking a fingerprint scanner. The phone weighs 230g and has a thickness of 8.65mm. There is support for 4G LTE (TDD and FDD) but the bands are few.

Xiaomi Releases Piston Pro In-Ear Earphones

Xiaomi makes a bunch of accessories for their mobile devices and earphones are a part of them. The company has released a number of earphones over the years of which the Piston series is the most popular. Today they have released the Piston Pro in-ear earphones.

Piston Pro

The Piston 3 Pro has a CNC diamond-cut aluminium sound chamber with an anodized surface and a CD pattern engraved design. The main earbuds are bent to 45° so that they fit nicely into your ears and don’t fall off.

The Piston Pro uses a combination of double coils and a moving piston to produce clear natural sounds and achieve a tri-band balance. If you head to the official page, there is an audio track that automatically plays which you can use to test out the earphones and see if you can distinguish the various background sounds on the track.

Piston Pro

The Piston Pro has three control buttons that are housed in a chamber designed like a warhead. You can switch between tracks and also play and pause with the buttons. Xiaomi has decided not to use flat wires for the earphones and there is no mention of it being tangle-free but it says the wire is made of TPE with a matte finish.

Xiaomi has bundled the Piston Pro with 4 sizes of silicone soft skin ear plugs that reduce ear irritation and are comfortable when you wear them.

More Interesting Details on Huawei Concept Phone Emerge

Not long after well-known analyst Pan Jiutang revealed that Huawei was working on its own concept phone using Samsung’s four curved screen and scheduled for release in December, more details have emerged sort of lending credence to Jiutang’s assertions. The new details even went on to mention specifically that the Huawei concept phone would be launched on December 16.

huawei-concept

According to Weibo user @Mocha, the said Huawei Concept phone is not just a new product but a new product line or brand which perhaps would bore many offspring in the future. The leakster ascribed a very high degree of authenticity to Pan Jiutang’s post about the Huawei device.

huawei-concept2

Also, another Weibo user @Zheng Jun also confirmed the existence of a Huawei concept phone and the conceptualization comes in on the screen design and the design would be one of the major attraction of the device. Jiutang had earlier hinted at Huawei using Samsung’s four curved screen on the device. We’ll have to wait some more to fully grab what that means.

huawei-concept-phone

Further more, some web users have dug into the archives to unearth a Huawei patent filed last year for a concept device (pictured above) with curved display at the front and a rounded arc at the back which is symmetrical with the front glass. The device bore some resemblance with Samsung Galaxy Edge’s design  but with some notable omissions. On closer look it can be seen that the concept phone has no camera, no fingerprint sensor, no visible physical capacitive keys, neither is there any visible speakers, headphone jack or any other physical feature except the curved screen.

Read More: Huawei’s Own Concept Phone Tipped For Release Next Month

There seems to be some explanation, though, as internal sources have revealed that the Huawei concept phone comes with a set of peripherals such as headsets, smart band or watch, external camera and even implant device. Also the sources hinted that Huawei would likely manufacture just the concept phones while the other peripheral devices would be manufactured by third parties. Interesting isn’t it? We’ll have to see how this turns out, really!

Meizu’s Leaked Concept Renders Shows A True Bezel-less Front, But Unlikely To Be True

Recently, a new set of renders of an alleged Meizu device cropped up on the internet, revealing a brand new device with a true bezel-less front. While usually such concepts never convert into real products, Xiaomi proved all of us wrong, with its new surprise, the Xiaomi Mi Mix. So, we can’t totally rule out the possibility of its counterpart, Meizu, releasing a concept machine of its own.

meizu concept bezelless

The new images are basic renders, showing off a true bezel-less front. So, unlike the Mi Mix, there is no bezel at the bottom. And it looks like the phone comes with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the front. This definitely makes this Meizu phone much better looking than the Mi Mix, but we still wonder whether this phone actually exists.

meizu-mi-mix-2

To be honest, Meizu, at present, seems to be more focused on its new flagship smartphone. The Meizu Pro 6S although decently specced, isn’t as powerful as other flagships in the market right now. So, it’s unlikely that the company is focusing its energy on a concept machine before revealing a decent flagship worthy smartphone.

There’s another leaked image (check below) which shows the date 24 December 2016, teasing us about a new product launch from the company. Unfortunately, at present, we can’t confirm anything, so we better wait for more details.

Motorola Moto M Goes Official: 4GB RAM, Helio P15 Chip & More

Motorola which is no part of the Lenovo family seems to have officially launched the Moto M without rolling out the drums and avoiding the protocols of organizing a launch event. The mid-range Motorola Moto M has been officially listed on China’s Tmall with a somewhat high price tag of 1999 Yuan ($295).

mototrola moto m

For a 1999 Yuan device, the specifications really didn’t fly. The Moto M comes in with a 5.5-inch display with Full HD (1080 pixels) resolution. The device is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek Helio P15 chip clocked at 2.2GHz which is a bit strange on a Motorola device. The processor is complemented by an exorbitant 4GB RAM and in terms of storage, there is 32GB of internal storage.

motorola moto m

The Motorola Moto M  adopts a splash-proof all-metal body with P2i hydrophobic coating and there is a rear fingerprint sensor on the device. The Moto M also features a cool 16MP rear camera with LED flash, Dolby Atmos sound, dual SIM slots and a 3,050mAh battery.

motorola moto m

Basically, nothing tickles on the device for that price, when compared to other moderately priced devices like the Xiaomi Mi 5s which packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, and a front ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, not forgetting the LeEco Pro 3 also having a cheap price tag. Perhaps the Moto M would perform better in other markets outside China.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Electric Kettle Review! Is It Awesome?

As you know, Xiaomi produces all sorts of gadgets but I’ve never reviewed a smart electric water kettle. It is a little pricey as it costs $54 but is it any good? Find that out in the full review.

Xiaomi Smart Kettle Review: VIDEO REVIEW

[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIhG85fYKQ8[/embedyt]

Xiaomi Smart Kettle Review: UNBOXING

20161101_144845 20161101_150513

The product ships in quite a nice box and inside of it, you can find a kettle itself, a base and some instruction manuals.

Xiaomi Smart Kettle Review: DESIGN and FEATURES

20161101_150008

When it comes to the looks, we have a nice and minimal design. The kettle is made of quality matt plastic and inside of it is made of stainless steel.

20161101_150126

You can pour in up to 1.5l of water inside of it and the kettle uses 1.8kw of power.

20161101_150145

Overall, the kettle is very well made and it seems that it will last a long time.

Xiaomi Smart Kettle Review: SMART FEATURES

20161101_150052

Since it is the first smart kettle I’ve ever reviewed, I was super excited to test all the features out.

20161101_150040

First of all, you can use the device as a regular kettle by simply pressing the first capacitive key, which has a great response.

In order to unleash those smart features, you have to connect the kettle to your phone via Bluetooth using the Mi Home app. I didn’t have any issues connecting my phone to the device but I didn’t like the fact that the app is in Chinese. The main smart feature is that the kettle has a built-in temperature control up to 12 h. Within the app, you can select e.g. that you want to keep the temperature of the water at 80 degrees from 1 to 12 hours.

20161101_150202

Also, if you choose the button showing the curve going up, the kettle will raise the temperature to the boiling level first and then keep it at your desired level.

Xiaomi Smart Kettle Review: CONCLUSIONS

20161101_145151

Everything worked just fine during my review period and I believe these features are great for those who love drinking tea of coffee constantly without the need to boil the water and then wait for it to cool off.

Also, I love a design and quality materials used in the construction of the Xiaomi Mi Kettle.

20161101_150008

However, I was disappointed that as of now, the app is in Chinese. Also, I believe there should be more smart features e.g. the ability to turn on/off the kettle using your phone. Finally, I believe the Wifi connection would have been better on this kind of the device, so you can control the kettle from a distance.

At the end of the day, the Xiaomi smart kettle is a nice-looking and high-quality product and it does all the things as advertised but it is up to you to decide if the price of $54 is worth it.

CPU Battle: Top 6 Processors Slug it Out

The year is almost over and all the top processors have been released and anyone can now purchase a phone that has any of the chips. While the manufacturers have released benchmark scores comparing them against each other, it’s still important to see how they perform outside the laboratories.

CPU Battle

Weibo user @ice universe has benchmarked the top 6 processors against each other and the results are pretty interesting. He has also listed out the strong points of each processor.

CPU Battle

The result shows Huawei’s Kirin 960 winning scoring highest in memory latency, memory bandwidth, and Dijkstra algorithm value. The Helio X25  CPU  is no slouch either as it wins in some areas too. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chip also ranks in HDR and Face Detection.

Samsung’s Exynos 8890 is best at encryption and lossless data compression (LZMA). The older snapdragon CPU however fails to win any category which is not surprising as the Snapdragon 821 is supposed to be better than it in all ways. But it does score a little higher than the SD821 in encryption.

LeEco In Trouble? CEO’s Alleged Internal Letter Says Company Facing Cash Crunch

We all know ‘LeEco’ which is aggressively expanding into so many ventures, offering amazing products at affordable pricing. But it’s not easy expanding ever so quickly especially when you are operating not just in your domestic market, but entering large markets such as the US. Now, it has come to light that all things are not going so well for the company.

LeEco Logo

According to an internal letter sent by LeEco CEO Jia Yueting, obtained by Bloomberg, the company is reportedly facing cash crunch. The CEO reportedly sent the letter on Sunday explaining about the company’s difficulty is sustaining the fast growth powered by its recent ventures.

While the parent company Leshi Internet Information & Technology Corp. is listed on the stock exchange, other ventures such as its auto department as well as smartphone department are unlisted.

lesee electric car

Cash crunch is never a good sign for a venture and it wasn’t surprising to see LeEco’s shares tumble today at the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. But Jia says that the management will work on corrective measures such as slowing down the existing aggressive expansion. He even said that he will reduce his yearly income to just 1 Yuan (15 cents). Other possible measures to be taken by the company mentioned in the letter include  focusing on existing business, decreasing subsidies to customers, and implementing other cost-cutting programs.

This letter was widely shared on Weibo today and soon it educed a response from Xiaomi’s CEO (or so it seemed at that time), as a screenshot of a Wechat message with Lei Jun commenting about the debts of LeEco emerged online. This further led to a response from LeEco criticing Xiaomi and Lei Jun for spreading rumors. For this, Xiaomi’s official spokesperson replied asking LeEco to focus on its debts rather than distracting public from it.

Now, some think that this screenshot is fake and is not from Lei Jun, but the Xiaomi CEO is yet to comment on this matter. Neverthless, this internal letter revealed today from LeEco’s CEO will surely damage the reputation of the company and it’s venture to some extent.

Let’s wait for more details on this matter.

New Samsung S8 Leaks: 2K Display, No Physical Home Button

The Galaxy S8 is the most anticipated phone from Samsung now. It is an important device for the company and for the whole world, as it is their next flagship after the Galaxy Note 7 disaster. Everyone wants to know how Samsung will regain their already soiled image and from the leaks and rumors, it seems they are killing it already.

The latest leak is a major one that has a high chance of turning out to be true. A week ago we covered the news that Samsung was going to start using bezel-less OLED displays starting from 2017. While the S-LCD executive declined to confirm if the Samsung S8 was going to be the first phone to feature the new display technology, the new leak might be the confirmation we need.

samsung-s8-weibo

The source is a user on Weibo @ice universe, who said the Galaxy S8 will keep the 2K display resolution from the previous generation but will use a new screen material. This hints that the Samsung S8 may be the first of Samsung devices to sport the new display technology.

Samsung S8

Another hint is that Samsung has not issued out any orders for the components used for the home key suggesting that the company may be ditching the home button which doubles as a fingerprint scanner completely. If the S8 doesn’t have a home button, Samsung can reduce the bottom bezel of the phone and achieve the 90% screen-to-body ratio.

Xiaomi Kick-Starts MIUI 9, Coming Soon?

A couple of months after the MIUI 8 was released, it has emerged that Xiaomi is already has on its agenda the MIUI 9. According to insider sources right from Xiaomi’s headquarters, the MIUI 9 ceremony was held signifying the launch of the project.

miui 9

The launch involved a big white board with the number 9 boldly printed on it in red and the text ” Hello MIUI written in Chinese below, followed by a few words by those in-charge of the MIUI research. No mention was made to the release date, though.

miui 9

What this news means is that Xiaomi has kick-started the process preceding the release of another operating system even when the MIUI 8 is yet to roll out on all Xiaomi smartphones. A lot of research and development goes into the process and we hope to see a beta version of the MIUI 9 sometime in the near future, perhaps early next year.

Gionee S9 Apears at TENAA: Sports 13MP+5MP Dual Rear Cameras

Gionee has joined the dual camera bandwagon judging from two new phones, the Gionee S9 and Gionee S9T ( a network variant), that made it to the the ministry of information to get their network certification.

Gionee S9 Gionee S9

Both phones sport dual-rear cameras in a 13MP and 5MP combo which we assume will work together to produce pictures with detailed depth of field. The cameras are separated and are flanked by a LED flash on the right.

Gionee has adopted a dual antenna design for the S9T to boost signal strength and have also settled for a Gionee logo instead of a fingerprint scanner below the cameras in both phones. The fingerprint reader is now positioned in front in a style similar to Samsung’s.

Xiaomi Mouse: Lightweight, Tough and Costs ¥99 ($15)

Xiaomi has released it’s first mouse which is the first computer peripheral that you can buy for the Mi Notebook Air (not counting the mechanical keyboard).

The Xiaomi Mouse has a lot going for it. The design is unusual. The buttons and scroll key which are made from ABS plastic are housed in a circle symmetrical to the underside that holds the sensors. The circle is a part of one metal body that is shaped like a keyhole.

The body is made from sand-blasted anodized aluminium, a design similar to that used for Apple Macbooks. The manufacturing process helps prevent the mouse from scratches and wear. And since it is aluminium it is light as well, weighing just 77.5g.

The underside of the Xiaomi Mouse is where the power switch, bluetooth module and optical sensor are located. Real Renders of Nokia Smartphone with Metal Body Leaked

Nokia has continued to be a very popular brand despite been out of the picture for a long time, perhaps because of its credible track record back in the days. Recent news of the re-emergence of the Nokia brand was greeted with wild accolades online. Since then, a couple of leaks here and there have surfaced on the internet about the expected Nokia phones.

nokia

The leaks keeps getting larger, as a fresh set of renders said to be those of the expected Nokia smartphone have surfaced online and they look quite stunning. The renders did not reveal the front view of the device but focused on the back cover, and side views of the device. They showed the device sporting an all-metal design and having a curved antenna band design similar to the iPhone 7’s.

nokia

There are two openings are the back of unequal sizes. One of the opening is likely for the rear camera while we can’t say for sure if the second opening is for a fingerprint sensor or signify a dual camera set up. In addition, the Nokia brand name is neatly crested at the middle while two thin antenna bands run horizontally at both ends curving at the edges.

Insider sources also revealed that there are two slightly high-end Nokia phones in the works, both having similar designs with three front buttons. One of the buttons would be the home button and would also function as a fingerprint sensor.

Huawei’s Own Concept Phone Tipped For Release Next Month

With the release of the Huawei Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche Design, one would have thought Huawei’s smartphone releases for the year is concluded. But that seems not to be the case as Huawei is rumored to be planning the release of a more captivating device next month.

huawei-mate-9-porsche-design

According to analyst Pan Jiutang, Huawei would release a device even more powerful than the Mate 9 next month. The analyst made this disclosure on Weibo  and even went further to give some highlights of the device’s specs.  The phone will feature Samsung customized four curved screen and would be equipped with a number of sensors as well as capable of achieving artificial intelligence.

huaweiMr Jiutang went further to reveal that the real machine has been seen by insiders and they describe its appearance as stunning. If actually this turns out to be true, Huawei would have succeeded in performing way above our expectations for the year. The company is already positioned to achieve its sales target for the year and now another powerful phone? That’s just awesome.

Although Huawei is still yet to launch the new phones in its home country, China, a source says they will have a cheaper price tag than what they sell for in Europe. This is not surprising as they did the same for the Huawei Nova.

Vivo has confirmed November 16 as the date for the official launch of the Vivo X9 and X9 Plus, and both phones have already gotten their network certification from the Ministry of Industry.

The Vivo X9 and X9L have full network support, so if you are on a CDMA network and wish to change your phone soon, you may want to add either of these phones to your list.

Vivo has focused on the design of both phones. Promotional images show a device with very thin bezels. Sources say they have used the latest COS narrow border technology to arrive at a bezel size of just 1.59mm. They’ve also put Corning’s 5th generation glass on top of the display for protection. The antenna lines also sport a U-design that goes around the top of the phone.

The unique selling point of the X9 is its dual-front facing cameras (20MP+8MP) which work together to capture HD depth of field images. The 20MP sensor captures the details and the 8MP sensor obtains the depth information resulting in SLR bokeh images. The X9 Plus on the other hand is said to have dual cameras on the back as well, making it a total of 4 sensors.
