A new Moto Mod called Linc: The Smart Walkie Talkie has surfaced on Indiegogo that metamorphoses Moto Z into a walkie talkie.

In November 2016, Motorola (now owned by Lenovo) had asked its fans to submit design and ideas on Indiegogo to build innovative Moto Mods that do not exist. In the recent past, The Ultimate Moto Z Mod that brought features like wireless charging and IR blaster at a pricing of $45 is already available on Indiegogo.

The Linc Moto Mod that transforms Moto Z into walk-talkie makes it possible to use the smartphone in places with no cellular connectivity. It works on GMRS/FRS consumer-level frequencies and carries support for 22 channels and works with a range of five to six miles.

Samsung Exynos 9810 Set to Take on the Snapdragon 835

It has become a tradition for Samsung to release its flagship devices in two variants with different processors. There is one variant with the company’s own Exynos chip and another with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC. This year is not going to be any different. Samsung teased a new Exynos 9 processor which is expected in the Galaxy S8. New details about the chip said to be called the Exynos 9810 have been revealed.

Exynos 9810

The Exynos 9810, just like the Snapdragon 835 is stated as being built using the 10nm process. It will feature four Mongoose M2 cores and four Cortex A53 cores. GPU will be a Mali-G71 clocked at 550MHz but the chip will still not have full network support.

A Korean media says the Exynos 9810 will give the Snapdragon 835 a run for its money by offering better performance and better power consumption but its lack of support for a wide range of network will be its shortcoming.

UNBOXING

P1080079JPG

In the box, you can find all the usual stuff and some extras include a soft TPU case.

DESIGN and DISPLAY

P1070777JPG

20170218_115209

The C5 Pro is one of those better built super cheap phones out there. It uses a metal frame that goes around the device and tactile metal buttons.

P1070778JPG

Also, the backplate has a pretty cool-looking textured finish, which is nice to the touch.

P1080093JPG

In addition, the phone is compact due to its 5” 720p display, which is pretty good for the price but it may be slightly reflective outdoors. One of the key selling points is the toughness of the display. I did not have a chance to fully test it but it is said that to have 9H hardness.

20170218_115108 20170218_115114

A few drawbacks would be that there is no LED notification light and the capacitive keys are not backlit.

20170218_115130

The loudspeaker is not really impressive but it is pretty good for the phone this cheap.

20170218_115313 20170218_115320

You can easily remove the backplate and underneath it, you will find two SIM card slots, the microSD card slot, and a replaceable 2000mAh battery.

HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

20170218_115059

The phone ships with a quad-core MTK6737 chip, 16GB of storage and 2GB of RAM.

These are not very impressive specs if you are a gamer. You should expect quite a few skipped frames and a bit of stutter when playing games like Asphalt 8 even on medium graphics.

BENCHMARKS

USER INTERFACE

The phone ships with Android 6.0 out of the box and we have some redesigned icons and added features by Oukitel. For example, there are some gesture and motion controls. As usual, I use only a couple of them and they work fine.

Most importantly, the phone runs fast and fluid most of the time. Well, I had a little bit of stutter a couple of times but nothing major.

CAMERAS

IT IS HIGHLY-RECOMMENDED TO DOWNLOAD FULL RESOLUTION CAMERA SAMPLES TO SEE THE ACTUAL IMAGE QUALITY. THE PICTURES UPLOADED ON THE WEBSITE ARE 50% SMALLER IN RESOLUTION.

The phone has a an 8MP main camera and 5MP shooter on the front.

You can be picky with each cheap phone once you talk about the image quality but you should never expect any stellar results from cheap phones. The C5 Pro is no exception.

The images look okay but they are usually overexposed, oversaturated, there could be more detail and so on.

The video quality is okay… for a cheap phone. However, the sound quality is just terrible.

Download full resolution camera samples

CONNECTIVITY

P1070760JPG

I didn’t have any connectivity issues. However, the GPS could be slightly more accurate.

BATTERY LIFE

P1070731JPG

The 2000mAh battery does not impress on paper but it could still get me through the day on a mixed use. With my usage, I could get around 4 hours of screen-on time.

CONCLUSIONS

P1070777JPG

The Oukitel C5 Pro is another cheap phone from China that costs about $70. For the price, it is a decent offering and this is what you have to expect from a cheap phone. Most importantly, it does not have any major shortcomings but as most of the cheap devices, it has a few drawbacks that you have to consider before buying it.

OnePlus 3/3T Get Nougat-based Hydrogen OS 3.0 Update

OnePlus has two operating systems for its phones: there is Oxygen OS for the international variants, and for the domestic variant you have Hydrogen OS. While owners of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T running Oxygen OS have already received the Android Nougat update (Oxygen OS 4.0.3) for close to two months now, those on Hydrogen OS are just getting the Nougat treatment in form of Hydrogen OS 3.0.

Hydrogen OS

Although, Hydrogen OS is built for users in China, it is also available in English. Like most Chinese forks of Android, you can sideload Google Services after flashing it on your phone and unwanted Chinese apps can be uninstalled. Some users say Hydrogen OS has a better battery life than Oxygen OS and there is also call recording. There is even a poll on the OnePlus forum to determine the better one.

Leagoo M8 Review – The Best Phablet for under $70?

Leagoo may not be the first manufacturer name when you think of smartphones but the company has produced some solid super cheap devices. The M8 model has a 5.7” display, decent specs and a lot more for just below $70. Learn more in the full review.

Leagoo M8 Review: UNBOXING

P1080074JPG P1080075JPG

In the box, you can find all the usual stuff and some extras include a pair of cheap earphones.

Leagoo M8 Review: DESIGN and DISPLAY

P1080138JPG

Honestly, it’s hard to believe that this phone does not even cost $70. It is really well-made and it uses a high-quality metal frame, and tactile metal buttons. The phone just feels very solid in the hand.

P1070767JPG

Even though a huge 5.7” display has only 720p resolution, it is plenty sharp and vibrant for such a cheap phone. Surprisingly, the display is covered with the Gorilla Glass 4 for scratch resistance. The only complaint is that the screen is slightly reflective outdoors. 20170218_122237

We have an 8MP selfie shooter on the top. However, there is no LED notification light and I’m not a huge fan of the on-screen navigation keys.

20170218_122250

The backplate looks kind of nice but it attracts fingerprints quite easily. As for optics, we have a 13MP camera, which is coupled with dual LED flash. The fingerprint scanner may not be the fastest on the market but it is accurate and it unlocks the phone straight from the standby mode.

20170218_122254

The loudspeaker is pretty good too. In fact, it is one of the best in this price range.

Leagoo M8 Review: HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

P1080140JPG

The Leagoo M8 does not have the best specs out there but it still has enough power to handle most of the stuff. We have a quad-core MTK6580 chip (1.3Ghz), 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

You can’t expect much from this phone when it comes to gaming but I have to say that you will be able to enjoy playing games like Asphalt 8 on the medium graphics without any issues.

Leagoo M8 Review: USER INTERFACE

When it comes to the user interface, the phone ships with a highly-customized FreemeOS, which is built on top of Android 6.0.

The user interface has a ton of features and customization options. Just to name a few, you can change themes, select different transition effects or choose from a variety of gesture or motion controls that work pretty well.

Most importantly, the phone runs quite smoothly and I didn’t have lag even after installing quite a few apps.

Leagoo M8 Review: IMAGE QUALITY

IT IS HIGHLY-RECOMMENDED TO DOWNLOAD FULL RESOLUTION CAMERA SAMPLES TO SEE THE ACTUAL IMAGE QUALITY. THE PICTURES UPLOADED ON THE WEBSITE ARE 50% SMALLER IN RESOLUTION.

The image quality is probably the best I’ve seen on any $70 phone. There is a good amount of detail, the colours look quite nice and in general, the pictures look pretty sharp.

There are some other shooting modes like bokeh. However, the results are not impressive at all.

Even the low-light photos look okay for the phone this cheap. Also, the selfies are quite sharp and will definitely do the trick for social media.

Also, the selfies are quite sharp and will definitely do the trick for social media.

The 1080p video is not really impressive but you can’t have it all for such a low price.

Leagoo M8 Review: CONNECTIVITY

P1070767JPG

When it comes to connectivity, I have no major complaints. The call quality is decent and the wifi works well. However, the GPS could be slightly more accurate.

Leagoo M8 Review: BATTERY LIFE

P1070737JPG

The phone has a replaceable 3500mAh battery that performs quite well. I was able to get about 4-5 hours of screen-on time, depending on the usage, which is a decent result.

Leagoo M8 Review: CONCLUSIONS

P1070728JPG

To be honest, I didn’t expect the Leagoo M8 to be this good for the device that does not even cost $70.

It is very well-made, it has a metal chassis and the phone feels nice in the hand. Also, you get a decent 5.7” display, decent specs and a pretty good overall performance.

P1070772JPG

Obviously, there are some tradeoffs e.g. there is no LED notification light, the display may be reflective outdoors and the video recording quality could be better.

20170218_122505

However, if you consider that this phone produces really good photos and the battery life is pretty good, you can’t really go wrong by spending less than $70, even if there are a few minor shortcomings to consider.

ZTE Cancels Project CSX Phone, ZTE Hawkeye A Day Before Deadline

ZTE’s Project CSX phone, the ZTE Hawkeye has been cancelled! We all saw this coming and so did ZTE too. What we did not expect was it being cancelled before the deadline set for the funding. It’s not like it was going to reach its goal anyway, but it would not have been bad to wait an extra 24 hours.

ZTE Hawkeye Canceled

If you head to the Kickstarter page, you will be greeted with a message similar to that of the image above.

ZTE, itself has admitted that they made a mistake with the specs of the phone and had even apologized to the public. A poll was opened on its Z-Community to find out what new features should be added or what should be replaced. The VP of ZTE, Jeff Yee says the company has been listening to the feedback from consumers and will go back to the drawing board to improve the phone.

ZTE Hawkeye

He goes on to say Hawkeye will still happen but ZTE will take a while to figure out how to build it on a higher-end Snapdragon 820 or 835 based platform. The Z-Community website will still be used to get ideas for the phone too. So if you have any ideas for the phone, you can drop a comment there.

READ MORE: ZTE Nubia New Smartphone Launching on February 26

Even with the setback, Jeff Yee states that ZTE wants the Hawkeye to be released this year. So if all goes well, those still interested in the device might have it in their hands before the end of the year. However, backers will still get their refund.

The company says they have learned from crowd-sourcing, as some of the features people requested for are making their way into their other phones. An example is the clamor for stock Android which they put in the Canadian version of the Axon Mini.

New Motorola Phone with 8GB ROM Seen at FCC: Might Be A New Moto E

The Moto E is the low-end line from Motorola with very budget specs and intended for emerging markets. 2016 saw us getting two models of the phone: the Moto E3 and Moto E3 Power. Both devices were released in September and less than 6 months later, it seems we might be getting a new model.

A tweet by leakster Roland Quandt (@rquandt) mentions details of a Motorola phone seen on the FCC’s website. The phone’s model number is listed as Moto XT1750 and is codenamed “Watson”. It has 8GB of internal memory, dual SIM support, and a 2350mAh battery.

Moto E 4th Gen 2

The internal memory hints at it being a Moto E since that’s like the signature storage of the series (save for the E3 Power). The battery capacity is what’s confusing though. Last year’s model has a 2800mAh battery but comes with a 5-inch 720p screen. Both features are upgrades from the 2015 model which has a 4.5-inch (540 x 960) display and a 2390mAh battery. There is no mention of the screen size of this new device, but it will be unwise to bundle it with a smaller battery if they are retaining the 5-inch display.

Xiaomi Mi 6 Configuration Details Leak: 2K Display, Mi Note 2 Camera

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is not launching anytime soon. Xiaomi is not even attending MWC 2017. So if you have been unaware of that detail and been looking forward to the Mi 6 making an appearance, we are sorry to burst your bubble.

However the configuration details for Xiaomi’s next flagship were leaked on Weibo by a user called @Reviewer_Well. His post says the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be available in two variants: a 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM variant which will have a 1080p display and a 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant with a WQHD display.

Xiaomi Mi 6 Specs

Xiaomi Mi 6 front

He goes on to mention the camera details. The front facing camera is the Sony IMX268 8MP autofocus sensor which is the same one in the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. Sadly we won’t be getting the Mi Note 2’s 22.5MP rear sensor, instead the Mi 6 will have a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor.

Real Images of LG G6 Leaked: Shows Always on Display and Thin Bezels

Just a week before the LG G6 launches, real images of the device have surfaced online. These are not the first set of images showing the LG G6 but these are the first that shows the Always-on display.

This is a silver variant of the LG G6. Starting from the rear, we can see the dual cameras and the fingerprint scanner now have a new design. They flush with the rest of the body and are not raised like in the G5. The back plate is also reflective as the fluorescent tubes in the room are visible on it.

LG G6 real image

Up front is where the action is. LG is not aiming for symmetry with the G6 and its evident in how the top and bottom bezels are of varying sizes. The side bezels are pretty thin though and the way the screen curves at the corners look nice. The top bezel houses the front camera, sensors and earpiece while the lower bezel is were LG’s branding sits. The Always-on display shows the time, date, and battery level, so by simply whipping out your phone from your pocket you should know how much battery you have left.

LeEco / LeTV IMEI Repair – Qualcomm Models

leeco-le-max2-desc2

LeEco is the new player in the game but the company is satisfying its customers in many ways since it came to market. First of all, build quality of course, then price, these two are good enough to sell. Another important point is, that they don’t have any locked bootloader that requires a special way to unlock like in the Xiaomi models lately, a fastboot command is more than enough to unlock it and start to develop. The last attractive point, that many users are not aware of is how easy to repair the IMEI on Qualcomm models, because LeEco has chosen not to protect it like many other phone makers did. This comes very handy if you somehow lost your imei number and want to fix it.

*#*#76937#*#* , this code will open the necessary “Diag port” that we will work with.

le3_diag_port_logo

Select “Enable AT Port” from this service menu, plug your USB cable and your PC will find a new device. Install this “Qualcomm Diag” drivers please. After successful install your diag port will look like this under device manager: “Qualcomm HS-USB Android DIAG”.

LeEco_diag_port

Now, before we begin, backup is very important, please refer to this guide how to backup your LeEco’s necessary data and keep it in a safe place, that QCN backup is all you need to restore your modem and IMEI back if anything goes wrong during a ROM flash.

Qualcomm Snapdragon imei Repair, download this tool and run it ( no setup needed ). As you may guess rest is very easy. Just put your factory IMEI numbers in both boxes “IMEI_1” and “IMEI_2“, click start, reboot your phone manually and witness the magic.

Video Guide:

You can use this method on non-IMEI protected phones like Xiaomi Redmi 3 and Redmi Note 3 series without root, but for high end models you need root and another method that you can read in the “backup guide” that I gave.

How about MediaTek series of LeEco, how will you restore your imei if you lost it somehow? Here is the video guide:

The teaser, however, did not state the smartphone that would be unveiled on that day but it is possible it is the Nubia smartphone that appeared on leaked renders weeks back, looking very much like a modified Nubia Z2.

The smartphone (pictured above) adopts the same design as the Nubia Z2, save for the fact that it doesn’t have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. That props up the possibility that the smartphone would feature a front fingerprint sensor which would make it Nubia’s first smartphone with such feature. Also, the camera and flash sit on the same plane with the antenna band line on the top. MWC is just at the corner, so we’ll wait to see what Nubia has in store for us.

Probable Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X Top-End Version Spotted, Features A Better Processor

Xiaomi recently released the Redmi Note 4X this month with the highly efficient Snapdragon 625 chipset, making the device a fan-favorite. Added to that, the device came in five cool colors including a Hatsune Miku special edition which came in green color. The Redmi Note 4X was only made available in 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. Well, it seems that isn’t the only memory version the device will come in.

Xiaomi did include on its website, the existence of a 4GB + 64GB version which hasn’t been made available till date. However, the high-end version of the Redmi Note 4X has appeared on TENAA. The images accompanying the TENAA listing leaves no room for doubt as to whether this is indeed the Redmi Note 4X even though it was only identified by the model name MBE6A5.

According to the TENAA listing, the Redmi Note 4X (MBE6A5) sports the same 5.5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1980 x 1080 pixels like the current versions on sale. The device is listed with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and on the processor end, it packs a deca-core 2.0GHz processor. Now the memory and processor might be an error.  It could actually be an octa-core 2.0GHz SoC which points to a Snapdragon 653 processor. The RAM size should, in reality, be a 4GB RAM.

Other listed specs include a 4000mAh battery, a dimension of 151 x 76 x 8.35mm with a weight of 170g and a host of network bands which includes 4G LTE. If this turns out to indeed be a higher version of the Redmi Note 4x, then it would come with a higher price tag. Also, the wide range of network bands it comes with could indicate it would be sold outside China. We’ll be on the look out for more information on this.

OPPO sold 3 million OPPO R9S Units In January 2017

OPPO continues to soar higher and higher, achieving monstrous sales figures catapulted by the huge success of the R9 series. The company achieved record-breaking success with the R9 and it is likely the R9S will continue this feat as it has been revealed that the company has sold over 3 million units of the R9S.

The OPPO R9S was released late last year and the company then added a sleek variant with a red paint job in December.  The R9S came with a design which looks like the R9 but with a more refined design and some top notch specs. The company retained the VOOC fast charge technology that helped market the R9. These perhaps might have helped it achieve a sales figure of 3 million in January alone, as reported by research firm CINNOResearch.

For a smartphone that is barely four months old, 3 million units in sales in just one month is a record figure and is perhaps an indication that the smartphone will go on to have a great run in the market. At 2799 Yuan ($416), the OPPO R9S isn’t a very cheap smartphone but its great design and rich specs lineup make it a hot selling piece. As a reminder, the R9S comes with a 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor at the rear, which is said to be jointly developed by OPPO and Sony. The sensor is reportedly fast and comparable to SLR camera speeds and there is also dual-core focus as well as dual LED flash onboard. The R9S comes with a Snapdragon 625 chipset backed by a 4GB RAM and there is 64GB of storage.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X coming to Taiwan?

Xiaomi has released a poster that teases a launch event which is scheduled to take place in Taiwan on February 21. This is perhaps a realization of the tech giant’s bid to take its products outside China in order to help rejig its finances and position in the market.

Xiaomi has been experiencing some decline in sales and revenue figures of late, losing out on the top three spots in smartphone shipments in the last few quarters. The company has indicated it would ship more units outside China and even open more physical stores, shifting from the usual online sales model.

Although the poster didn’t specify which smartphone(s) the company would unveil on that day, it is believed that Xiaomi will be bringing the international version of the Redmi Note 4X in Taiwan, as well as the Mi Note 2. Two marvelous smartphones which would no doubt be fast sell outs but we are not entirely sure about that. The Redmi Note 4X was unveiled in china a few days ago with a premium design and well-packed specs lineup for a budget smartphone. Hopefully, we’ll get to see the International version of this great smartphone on February 21 in Taiwan. Watch out!

Xiaomi Phone with 5-inch Display Appears on TENAA, Redmi 5?

A new Xiaomi smartphone with a 5-inch display has been certified by China’s telecoms regulatory body TENAA. The phone was spotted on TENAA yesterday accompanied by a set of cool renders of the device.

The Xiaomi smartphone is identified with the model number MAE136 and strangely packs just a few specs, unlike the usual TENAA listings. Xiaomi is becoming synonymous with large capacity batteries and the new device is listed as having a large 4000mAh battery under its hood. It also has a dimension of 139.24 x 69.94 x 8.65 mm.

Speculations are rife that this could be the Redmi 5, but it only bears a very slight resemblance to the Redmi 4. The device lacks a physical home button under the display and at the rear, there is a fingerprint sensor at the middle while the rear camera is tilted to the top left corner of the phone. The edges of the phone are more rounded than that of the Redmi 4 and there is a unique antenna band design at the back. There is a SIM tray slot at the side of the phone, indicating that it would be a dual SIM phone.
