Although Xiaomi sells expensive smartphones, the company’s cheaper handsets are popular worldwide. In fact, in India. Xiaomi is known as Redmi among commoners, thanks to value for money phones like Redmi A series, Redmi number series, and Redmi Note series. The latter series has now achieved a huge milestone, as per Xiaomi.

Yesterday, ahead of the Mi 11 global launch event, Xiaomi India announced a brag-worthy achievement on its various social media handles.

The Chinese smartphone maker revealed that it has shipped over 200 million units of Redmi Note series phones globally to date. This data is sourced from the firm’s own ‘Xiaomi Data Center’.

It is not surprising to learn that the global shipments of the Redmi Note series have exceeded 200 million units since its inception. This series has been the heart of Xiaomi’s product lineup ever since it was introduced.

Redmi Notes have been unbeatable in their price segment for a very long time. However, that began to change when realme entered the scene. But being an established product lineup, they are still as popular as they were before.

That said, Xiaomi is known for announcing its milestones ahead of releasing new devices. Hence, we think the Redmi Note 10 series is just around the corner. The upcoming series is reported to include two models, namely Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 10 Pro. As of now, we are only aware of the storage configurations and color variants of these handsets.

Since September, Xiaomi has been releasing MIUI 10 Global Stable update for is smartphones. The POCO F1 was recently treated with MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM at the beginning of this month. Now the same update has been made available to Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4X and Redmi Note 6 Pro smartphones.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro has released in few markets such as Thailand and Indonesia. It is yet to arrive in major markets like China and India, but the Chinese manufacturer has now made the Android 8.1 Oreo based MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM available for it. Here is the link to download the update. The ROM can be installed manually by navigating to Settings > About Phone > System Update > Choose Update and then select the download file to install MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM.

The Chinese manufacturer has also released MIUI 10 Global Stable for Redmi Note 4/4X phone. The new update can be flashed after downloading it from this link. Owners of the Redmi Note 4/4X should be aware of the fact that the update is based on Android Nougat.

The Redmi Note 4 was launched with MIUI 8 skinned Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. The Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 6 pro and Redmi Y2 and the older Redmi Note 4 are all powered by Snapdragon 625 chipset. Except for Redmi Note 4, the other three phones have been provided with Android 8.0 Oreo based MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM.

The Redmi Note 4 user in India are now receiving the MIUI 10 Global Stable version through OTA update. The Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi Note 4X users are yet to receive the MIUI 10 Global Stable OTA update. The MIUI 10update brings various improvements such as gesture-based navigations, natural sound for notifications, revamped Recents menu and a refreshed UI.

Xiaomi is adding a new SOS feature to closed beta version of the MIUI 10 developer ROM. This feature allows users to contact a pre-defined number in case of emergency. The feature is currently available to five Xiaomi devices. In the near future, the feature will be also brought to other devices.

The SOS feature that has been added to developer ROM can be accessed by pressing the power button 5 times and then it will send the help information to the emergency contact number. As it can be seen in the image below, users can activate the feature by going to Settings > SOS > Emergency Help. As of this writing, the feature is available to devices such as Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi MIX 2, Mi 6, Mi 5 and Redmi Note 4X

By releasing the SOS feature through closed beta Xiaomi could be testing the feature on the first five devices in China. It will be soon adding the function to the developer ROM for all the Chinese models by the end of September.

On May 31, Xiaomi had announced the all new MIUI 10 ROM. At the beginning of June, it had rolled out the Developer ROM closed beta in China for first batch of devices and the same devices had received public beta by the end of the month. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has released the developer ROM closed beta to the second batch of devices.

The first batch of devices that were treated with MIUI 10 Developer ROM included Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Mi 6, Mi MIX 2S, Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Redmi S2 and Redmi Note 5. Since the registrations for the Developer ROM closed beta ended yesterday in China, the company has made it available to the second batch of Xiaomi phones starting from today. After the closed beta testing comes to an end, the public beta is likely to arrive for the same second batch of devices by the end of this month.

The second batch of 17 Xiaomi phones that are now receiving the MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta are Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5S, Mi 5X, Mi 5C, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 5A, Note 5A Prime, Redmi Note 4X (Snapdragon variant), Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 5, Redmi 5A and Redmi 4X.

The company has stated that the arrival of the public beta of Mi 5X will be delayed. The specific release time for the smartphone will be announced through its social media channels. By this, Xiaomi is bringing the latest MIUI 10 to a total of 27 smartphones.

The MIUI 10 Developer ROM closed beta can be installed in two ways. Devices on MIUI 6, 7, 8 and 9 developer version can navigate to System Settings > My Device > MIUI version and then access the direct OTA update. It is recommended to back up devices on MIUI 6, 7, 8 and 9 stable versions are recommended ad then install the upgrade via fastboot with unlocked bootloader.

After releasing the list of top 10 high performance Android phones for June month, AnTuTu has now released the list of top 10 most favorite smartphones for the same month. The following list contains Android phones that were highly rated by users on the AnTuTu app between June 1 and June 30.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is leading the list with a positive rating of 95 percent. The handset was launched in early 2017. It features a regular 4K HDR display of 5.5 inches and is powered by Snapdragon 834. Other specs of the XZ Premium include SD835, 64 GB storage, 4 GB RAM, 19-megapixel rear camera and 3,230mAh battery.

The Meizu PRO 6 Plus that was launched at the end of 2016 follows XZ Premium with a positive rating of 94 percent. It includes 5.7-inch 2K display, Exynos 8890 SoC, 4 GB RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera with 4-axis OIS and 3,400mAh battery.

The OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 are tied on the third spot with a positive score of 93 percent. The OP6 is a 2018 flagship phone that features a 6.28-inch notched Optic AMOLED display, SD845 SoC, 6GB / 8GB RAM, 64 GB / 128 GB / 256 GB storage, 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera and 3,300mAh battery. The Mi MIX 2 has 5.99-inch 18:9 aspect ratio screen, Snapdragon 835, up to 8 GB RAM, up to 256 GB storage, 12-megapixel rear camera and 3,400mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Mi 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are on the fourth position with a positive score of 92 percent. The fifth spot is occupied by Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and Redmi Note 4X phones that managed to salvage a positive rating of 90 percent.

The above list is mainly dominated by older phones and the only new phones to make it to the list are OnePlus 6 and Xiaomi Mi 8. Surprisingly, the list does not include a single phone by Huawei. Newer smartphones are expected to appear in the forthcoming list of top 10 most favorite Android phones by AnTuTu.

The Mi A1 is Xiaomi’s first Android One phone, which is actually the Mi 5X but with pure Android. If you own the Mi 5X and want to experience pure android, there is a ported ROM of the Mi A1 available for download. What if you own the Redmi Note 4/Note 4X? There is also a ROM for you.

XDA senior developer, GLokin666 has ported the ROM of the Mi A1 to the Redmi Note 4/4X. The ROM is based on version 7.9.21 of the Mi A1 and is sort of an alpha/beta build as some features such as the fingerprint scanner and infrared scanner are not working. There are also some camera features missing.  However other features work well and Gapps come pre-installed. It also comes with September’s security patch and supports for multi-language.

About four months ago, Xiaomi announced a new blue variant for the Redmi Note 4X. However, it was only available in 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM configuration. The good news is that it is now available in the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM configuration.

The new variant will go on sale on September 21 at exactly midnight. It will be available on online stores such as JD.com and Tmall for ¥999 (~$152).

The Redmi Note 4X has a 5.5-inch full HD screen. It is powered by the Snapdragon 625 and packs a 4100mAh battery in a metal body. It has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera. Below the rear camera setup is a fingerprint scanner.

The Redmi Note 4X runs MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box but will get an update to MIUI 9. It has Bluetooth 4.2, dual band WiFi, an IR blaster and dual SIM support (hybrid). It also has a FM radio.

The Redmi 4X is available in 6 different colors in total – matte black, platinum grey, champagne gold, cherry powder (pink), Hatsune Miku special edition (blue-green), and light blue.

Xiaomi has released a new color variant of the Redmi Note 4 in India. The new color called Lake Blue looks very similar to the blue Redmi Note 4X released about three months ago. However this is a limited edition that has a purpose.

As part of its CSR, Xiaomi has started a campaign called “Wake the Lake” to clean up the lakes in the Indian city of Bengaluru (Bengalore), Karnataka. To involve its fans in the clean up, it released a limited edition phone whose proceeds will go into cleaning the lakes. So if you purchase a unit, you are helping to clean up the environment.

Xiaomi has chosen the city of Bengaluru as that is where it first set up camp in India. The first lake to be cleaned is the Kempambudhi Kere Lake. The funds will also be used to plant trees, construct sitting benches, install solar lights, as well as an outdoor fitness center with a play area for kids too.

It is exactly a week to the launch of MIUI 9 and Xiaomi has started recruiting beta testers. Although there is a long list of devices supported for the beta testing, only two or three, depending on how you see it will get the beta update first. Those devices are the Mi 6 and the Redmi Note 4 Qualcomm/Redmi Note 4X.

The number of devices supported for the closed beta testing this year is smaller than that of MIUI 8. MIUI 8 arrived earlier (May, 2016) and began closed beta testing with about 8 devices. MIUI 9 is not only arriving late, only four devices including the Mi 5X will actually get it first.

Before the closed beta testing is over and a public beta testing we may as well already be in September. After then will Xiaomi begin a stable roll-out to eligible devices.

Xiaomi’s custom version of android, MIUI is expected to get a new release soon. The new version called MIUI 9 has been in development for nearly a year and is rumored to launch next month.

Earlier this week we got to see what the new lock screen will look like. The image was posted by an individual on Weibo and was confirmed by the official MIUI account. Today,we have some screenshots courtesy of Androidhits that reveals some additional details about MIUI 9.

The first image is a screenshot of the about section of the phone. You might be wondering why it says MIUI 8.7.7.6 and not MIUI 9. The version number is the alpha build of MIUI 9. This is also not unusual as the non-stable version of MIUI is one figure behind the stable version.

The “About Phone” section now wears a new look. The specification details such as the screen size, resolution, battery capacity and CPU have been given icons. As you can see in the image, this is the Redmi Note 4X.

The second screenshot is of the recent apps menu. The main addition there is the split-screen icon at the top left corner. Split-screen multitasking is now a default in Android Nougat but Xiaomi has added it to MIUI 9. Reports say it will be available to devices running Marshmallow that get the MIUI 9 update.

Split-screen multitasking allows you to run two apps simultaneously. It is better appreciated if you use a large screen device like the Mi Max or Mi Max 2.

Xiaomi already has us confused with the multiple variants of the Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4 Series. In spite of the high number of phones, Xiaomi still isn’t done and has released a new Redmi Note 4X model.

The new Redmi Note 4X sports a new light blue coating on the back but retains the white front like the Champagne Gold and Cherry Powder variants. However, the new color isn’t the only new feature.

If you recollect, when Xiaomi announced the Redmi Note 4X, it promised there was going to be a high end-version. The high-end version launched later with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage but swapped the Snapdragon 625 chip for a Helio X20 processor.

Quite a number of people were outraged since it was basically the the same as the high end version of the Redmi Note 4. The new blue variant now comes with the extra RAM and storage and brings back the much-loved Snapdragon 625 chip.

The new variant isn’t yet on the official Xiaomi website but it is  available on JD.com for ¥1399 (~$206).There is also a Xiaomi store on AliExpress that has it for $219.99.

Depending on the size of your wallet, there is a Redmi Note 4X for you. There is the 3GB RAM + 16GB model for ¥799 (~$117) and the 3GB RAM + 32GB model for ¥999 (~$147). The Redmi Note 4X was launched back in February as a Snapdragon variant of the original Redmi Note 4. That was what we thought until Xiaomi released the high-end version with the same Helio X20 processor we thought it ditched. Originally released in champagne gold, matte black, platinum silver, cherry powder, and a Hatsune Miku Edition with a teal paint, Xiaomi is set to add one more color variant tomorrow.

A teaser image on the official Weibo page for Xiaomi redmi phones has disclosed that the Redmi Note 4X will be getting a new red variant tomorrow. The post is referring to it as a Jingdong special edition, so this may likely not be available on other platforms.

Details about the phone are still unknown. We don’t know if it will be limited to certain memory variants or if it will be sold for a higher price. We will have to wait till tomorrow to get answers to these questions.

When Xiaomi announced on MIUI Forum that the MIUI 8 China Developer ROM 7.4.20 has been released, the company noted that the update for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X was suspended because they were working on MIUI based on Android 7.0 for the device. They also hinted that update for Redmi 3S/3X, Redmi 4X was delayed due to stability test.

The company has indeed been working on the MIUI 8 based on Android 7.0 Nougat and it has been in developer ROM which those running the Global ROM have been able to download for a while now. But the China developer ROM was said to have been in Close Dev all these while and that has now been concluded. The Open Dev ROM, MIUI 8 7.4.27 beta which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat is now available for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X and other models. Redmi Note 4X users running the Close Dev ROM can get the update via OTA, while those using the latest MIUI China Developer ROM will get MIUI 8 OTA update notifications on their phones. Alternatively, they can click ‘Updater’ app to check for updates. Of course, if you are doing this,  don’t forget to backup data before upgrading.

On the other hand, if you’re using MIUI 8 China stable ROM or other older versions, you’ll need to flash your device before you can get this update. In case you don’t know which version you are using, if you got your Redmi Note 4X brand new and you’re in China, chances are that your device is running the MIUI China Stable ROM and you can only access this Android N based MIUI update if you flash your device to the developer ROM. Of course, you shouldn’t attempt flashing your phone if you don’t know how to because you could brick or boot loop the device.

When Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 4X last month, it was only available with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Xiaomi however teased that there would be a 4GB RAM variant with 64GB ROM. The rumor back then was that it was also going to have a different Snapdragon processor, most likely the Snapdragon 653. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Xiaomi has decided to power the Redmi Note 4X with a Helio X20 chip instead. Yes, that’s the deca-core chip we saw in the TENAA listing earlier today.

The info comes from Xiaomi’s official website where the details of the new variant have already been uploaded. The high-end version will have the Mali T880MP4 GPU clocked at 700MHz 4GB RAM.It will also support SD cards of up to 128GB  in size. The remaining specifications are the same as the 3GB RAM version.

There is no price yet but some say it will be priced at ¥1099 ($160). That price seems to be unlikely since the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Exclusive Version with exactly the same features which was released a few weeks ago is priced at ¥1399 ($203).

A new Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X version that looks like a higher version has appeared on China’s Telecom regulatory agency’s (TENAA) website after it was certified by the agency. This is coming barely two months after the device was quietly released by Xiaomi in China.

The new version of the Redmi Note 4X, which comes with the model number MBT6A5, is obviously a higher version of the smartphone considering it is listed as having 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.  Another proof that it is a higher version is the deca-core 2.0GHz processor it is listed with. The earlier Redmi Note 4X model comes sporting an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2.0GHz.

Other specs listed with the new TENAA certified Redmi Note 4X include, a 5.5-inch TFT display with Full HD resolution, a large 4,000mAh battery, 13MP rear camera sensor and 5MP front camera. The device also comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

As stated, the device is listed wit a deca-core chip and MedaiTek is the one known for using deca-core processors but there isn’t a MediaTek SoC clocked at 2.0GHz. The Helio X20 has a clock frequency of 2.1GHz so, it is likely there is an error or the chip is indeed an Helio X20 with a slightly reduced frequency.

Another striking thing of note on the specs list is the number of colour options the device will come in. A total of ten colour variants are listed and they include Gold, Gray, Silver, White, Black, Pink, Champagne Gold, Matte Black, Dark Gray, Cherry Blossom. Since the cost of using a MediaTek chip is lower than a Qualcomm variant, we really don’t expect a steep price increase on this version when it is launched.

The front of the phone looks just like previous Note-series devices. We have a sharp and bright 5.5” 1080p LCD display. In fact, it looks even better than a great display found on the Redmi Note 4.

We also have nicely backlit capacitive buttons and a highly customizable notification LED light.

The Note 4x is made of metal and it definitely feels premium but I was disappointed that the top and bottom parts of the backplate are made of plastic not like on the all-metal Note 4.

We have a 13MP shooter on the back, which is coupled with the dual-LED flash. Xiaomi phones are known for great fingerprint scanners and the Redmi Note 4x is no exception. You can unlock your phone very quickly straight from the standby mode.

The buttons feel nice and tactile, and we have some extra features like the IR blaster to control devices like TVs.

Xiaomi decided to stick with the micro USB port on this phone, which is not a deal-breaker but I would prefer the USB-C.

As for loudspeaker, I would say it is pretty good as on most of the Xiaomi phones. However, there is a little bit of distortion going on at the highest volume settings. The sound quality via the headset jack is pretty good too.

I have a standard edition of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x that sports an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chip with the max. clock speeds of 2.0GHz, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which is also expandable via the microSD card slot. If you are willing to pay extra, you can get a 64GB model with 4GB of RAM.

The gaming performance is great and the Snapdragon 625 chip does not heat up so quickly. Games like Asphalt 8 run fine on the highest graphics with just a few skipped frames but that didn’t bother me at all.

When it comes to the user interface, the Redmi Note 4x ships with the MIUI 8, which uses Android 6.0 as a foundation. My review unit ships with the global ROM that has Google Play services pre-installed and Chinese bloatware removed.

I love how fast the phone is on the daily basis even after installing quite a few apps. So far, the phone has been working fine and I didn’t have any lag.

As usual, there are plenty of customization options Xiaomi phones have been famous for. Just to name a few, you can adjust display settings, choose from a variety of themes, customize the capacitive buttons or change the colors of the LED notification light. If you want to customize the phone even further, there are a lot more other features to play with.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x Review: CAMERA

We have a familiar camera app that allows you to take pictures very fast. You can also play with some basic shooting modes and settings. E.g. you can adjust some image properties using the manual mode.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x Review: IMAGE QUALITY

For a $170 phone, the pictures taken with the Redmi Note 4X look quite nice and there is a good amount of detail in most of the daylight shots. However, there were a few pictures with softer focus and inaccurate-looking colors.

When it comes to the low-light photography, the Redmi Note 4x is a pretty good performer. Sure, you can’t expect wonders from a $170 phone but the images are one of the best in class. In fact, I see the improvement over the Redmi Note 4, meaning that the Xiaomi finally improved its noise reduction algorithms.

The video quality is pretty good but it could definitely have more detail and look sharper.

As for selfie camera, a 5MP shooter can produce quite good selfies that will be more than enough for social media Unfortunately, the stock camera app allows you to shoot only in 720p with the front facing camera. On the other hand, the quality of the footage is pretty good and the sound recording quality is decent for a cheap phone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x Review: CONNECTIVITY

The phone comes with a hybrid dual-SIM card tray, which can take either 2 SIMs or 1 SIM and the microSD card.

As for connectivity, everything has been working fine. I didn’t have any issues with Wifi that works fine on both 2.4 and 5GHz bands. Also, the GPS has been very accurate and finally, the call quality along with the signal reception have been great.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x Review: BATTERY LIFE

A huge 4100mAh battery has been phenomenal. I could use the phone for 2 days easily even with some heavy usage. That translates to over 7 hours of screen-on time. You can achieve even better results if you are going to use the phone just for the basic stuff.

Although the Snapdragon 625 supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology for fast charging, Xiaomi does not include the fast charger in the box and it takes about 2.5h to fully charge the phone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x Review: CONCLUSIONS

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x is yet another budget offering by the Chinese giant and I have to say that it is a great phone for the price of $170.

The device sports a very good built quality and it uses metal in the construction. Also, we have one of the best-in-class displays, feature-rich user interface and the phone can handle 3D games quite well. In addition, the battery life is fantastic. Finally, the camera can take some pretty good pictures.

A few minor shortcomings would be that the phone still uses the micro USB charging port, not the USB-C port. Also, the phone does not ship with the fast charger and finally, the top and bottom parts of the backplate are made of plastic, which is kind of a downgrade from the Redmi Note 4.

The question is: should you upgrade if you already have the Redmi Note 4. I would say no, since this phone is just an incremental upgrade. However, if you are in the market for a solid budget-friendly phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x should be definitely on your list as it is an easy buying recommendation for the price of under $170.

After quietly announcing the Redmi Note 4X, the device went on its first flash sale on February 14 and was an instant sell out. The next flash sale was slated for today and indeed, the device went up for sale today. A should be expected, all units of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X available for purchase were sold out in just seconds.

The matte black, champagne gold and gray color variants were up for grabs and were all listed as sold out just some seconds after the website opened for the flash sale. This isn’t coming as a bit of a surprise because of the spectacular design and decent specs lineup which the Redmi Note 4X came with. Moreover, the version up for grab carries a price tag of 999 Yuan which is relatively cheap.

Xiaomi recently released the Redmi Note 4X this month with the highly efficient Snapdragon 625 chipset, making the device a fan-favorite. Added to that, the device came in five cool colors including a Hatsune Miku special edition which came in green color. The Redmi Note 4X was only made available in 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. Well, it seems that isn’t the only memory version the device will come in.

Xiaomi did include on its website, the existence of a 4GB + 64GB version which hasn’t been made available till date. However, the high-end version of the Redmi Note 4X has appeared on TENAA. The images accompanying the TENAA listing leaves no room for doubt as to whether this is indeed the Redmi Note 4X even though it was only identified by the model name MBE6A5.

According to the TENAA listing, the Redmi Note 4X (MBE6A5) sports the same 5.5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1980 x 1080 pixels like the current versions on sale. The device is listed with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and on the processor end, it packs a deca-core 2.0GHz processor. Now the memory and processor might be an error.  It could actually be an octa-core 2.0GHz SoC which points to a Snapdragon 653 processor. The RAM size should, in reality, be a 4GB RAM.

Other listed specs include a 4000mAh battery, a dimension of 151 x 76 x 8.35mm with a weight of 170g and a host of network bands which includes 4G LTE. If this turns out to indeed be a higher version of the Redmi Note 4x, then it would come with a higher price tag. Also, the wide range of network bands it comes with could indicate it would be sold outside China. We’ll be on the look out for more information on this.

Xiaomi has released a poster that teases a launch event which is scheduled to take place in Taiwan on February 21. This is perhaps a realization of the tech giant’s bid to take its products outside China in order to help rejig its finances and position in the market.

Xiaomi has been experiencing some decline in sales and revenue figures of late, losing out on the top three spots in smartphone shipments in the last few quarters. The company has indicated it would ship more units outside China and even open more physical stores, shifting from the usual online sales model.

Although the poster didn’t specify which smartphone(s) the company would unveil on that day, it is believed that Xiaomi will be bringing the international version of the Redmi Note 4X in Taiwan, as well as the Mi Note 2. Two marvelous smartphones which would no doubt be fast sell outs but we are not entirely sure about that. The Redmi Note 4X was unveiled in china a few days ago with a premium design and well-packed specs lineup for a budget smartphone. In the early hours of today, Xiaomi revealed the price for the Redmi Note 4X. The prices announced are for the basic version and Hatsune Miku variant which both have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There is, however, a third variant, a 4GB RAM + 64GB model whose price is unknown and has a specification that differs from the 3GB variant.

The Redmi Note 4X has a 5.5-inch display, a Snapdragon 625 SoC, a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera. There is dual-SIM support and a 4100mAh non-removable battery. Those are the specs on Xiaomi’s website. But for the 4GB RAM variant, there are no specifications listed. Xiaomi is keeping the specifications as a surprise probably until tomorrow’s launch.

Some people have speculated that apart from the memory upgrade, the 4GB RAM variant is likely to feature a different processor too, probably the Snapdragon 653 processor which is more powerful than the Snapdragon 625.

The snapdragon 653 was released last year as a successor to the Snapdragon 652. It is an octa-core processor built on the 28nm node unlike the 14nm node used for the Snapdragon 625. The major difference is in the CPU Cores. The Snapdragon 653 uses a combination of 4x ARM Cortex A72 cores and 4x ARM Cortex A53 cores compared to the Snapdragon 625’s 8x ARM Cortex A53 cores. So while the Snapdragon 625 is focused on power management, the Snapdragon 653 focuses on performance as a result of the A72 cores it has.

The high-end Redmi Note 4X is expected to be priced at around ¥1300 (~$189) when it is released.

On the other hand, the Redmi Note 4X Hatsune customized version comes with a price tag of 1,299 Yuan ($188). The Hatsune edition seems to pack the same specs as the regular version but buyers also get a limited edition mobile power bank, a customized casing for the phone as well as the opportunity to download Hatsune theme in the future.

Xiaomi‘s first new smartphone release in China this year would likely be the Redmi Note 4X. The device has already been tipped as coming this February 14, while sales may likely start on the 16th of February. Ahead of the official launch, the device had made appearances in several leaks, gifting us some of the specs as well as a few renders of the Redmi series smartphone.

Presently, the specifications of the Redmi Note 4X has again featured in a leak which also gifts us some live, official looking images of the smartphone in the hands of Xiaomi’s brand ambassadors. Among the specs listed is a 5.5-inch display, a large 4100mAh battery, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front sensor as well as a Snapdragon 625 chipset.

In the same vein, a screen shot of what is said to be the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X AnTuTu benchmark score has leaked and it shows the Redmi Note 4X scored well over 90K points (90057 points) on benchmark. Now, that is way over the capabilities of the SD 625 chip it features. The SD 625 is only capable of a score in the region of 60K points and not over 90K. If it had been the Helio X20 chip onboard, then perhaps we would have believed because it reached over 80K on benchmark onboard the Redmi Note 4. So, it is possible this AnTuTu benchmark score is fake.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X is set to launch on the the 14th of February. Apart from the launch, the company is also expected to announce a new spokesperson. Earlier today, Redmi’s official Weibo page posted a video hinting at the new spokesperson who will be unveiled on the 13th of February.

Some sources say the video also hints at the four colors the Redmi Note 4X will be available in when it launches. It is said that the green and black font used in the means that in addition to the silver and gold colors which are default, the Redmi Note 4X will also be available in black and green.

A render of the two new color variants have been posted online. So in addition to sporting a new processor and memory configuration, the Redmi Note 4X will also have new color options.

Earlier today, the official Xiaomi account on Weibo posted a teaser image of a gift set to be revealed on Valentine’s Day. The gift is rumored to be the Redmi Note 4X.  Shortly afterwards, a new Xiaomi device was seen on TENAA and sources say it might be the Redmi Note 4X.

When we first heard of the Redmi Note 4X it was said the phone will launch with a Snapdragon 653 processor and have its RAM and ROM bumped up to 4GB and 64GB respectively. However, the new device seen on TENAA which looks very much like the Redmi Note 4 is equipped with a 2.0GHz octa-core processor but still has 4GB of RAM.

The Snapdragon 653 processor on the other hand is clocked at 1.95 GHz which means the chip in the phone is none other than the Snapdragon 625. The reason for not using the Snapdragon 653 processor is best known to Xiaomi but the only plausible reason we can think of is that they are saving it for a future device.

Right now, the only two devices that sport the Snapdragon 653 processor are the Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro and the OPPO R9s Plus, and both phones are equipped with 6GB of RAM.

The Snapdragon 625 is still a powerful processor and is what powers the international variant of the Redmi Note 4 and the Redmi 4 Pro. The choice of the chip still leaves us with two questions:

Is the Redmi Note 4X bringing anything else other than the change in processor? Because as it stands this is just the international variant with a new name.

Is the Redmi Note 4X the same device as the rumored new version of the Redmi Note 4 said to come with a new antenna design, a cheaper price and a snapdragon 625 processor?

The Spring Festival holiday is over and Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi is returning from the holidays with a bang. The company is set to launch another smartphone in the budget Redmi series, this time the Redmi Note 4X. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X has been the subject of several leaks, including those of its renders. The device also appeared on TENAA about a month ago and now, the company has officially teased what should be the launch of the device on February 16.

The teaser which appeared via Xiaomi phone’s Weibo account and was also shared on the Redmi phone Weibo account gave the idea that the company would be announcing a new celebrity spokesperson on the 8th of this month who will bring a special gift on Valentine’s day which is February 14. However, the presence of the enlarged number 16 on the teaser could be an indication that the Redmi Note 4X, which was also mentioned in the post, could be launched on February 16.

The Redmi Note 4 was made official in August 2016. The Redmi Note 4X is not expected to come with overhaul improvements, but with some new features that are not available on Redmi Note 4.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X Specifications

According to a Chinese leakster, the Redmi Note 4X will be the first phone to feature Pegasus screen. The Note 4 has a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. However, the biometric security feature will come embedded under the Home button.

It will be the first smartphone to make use of Pegasus display panel. Like Redmi Note 4, the Note 4X will continue to sport a full HD display that offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. As far as the design is concerned, it will be sporting a metal unibody design. Here are some of the leaked photos of Redmi Note 4X:

The Snapdragon 653 chipset that features quad cores of Cortex A53 working at 1.9 GHz and quad cores of Cortex A73 running at 1.44 GHz along with Adreno 510 will be powering the Redmi Note 4X.

The Note 4 comes in two storage models. Its 16 GB and 64 GB storage variants respectively have 2 GB and 4 GB of RAM. However, the Redmi Note 4X will come in 32 GB and 64 GB storage sizes. Both the devices are expected to feature 4 GB of RAM.

It will be arriving with 16-megapixel rear camera. There is no information available on its selfie camera. A 4,000 mAh battery with 9V / 2A fast charging support will be present inside the Redmi Note 4X. It will come with 15W charger.

The Redmi Note 4X supports FDD B5 /.8 networks which indicate that it is a 4G smartphone that will support China Unicom and China Teleco networks in the home country.

Redmi Note 4X Release Date, Price

Xiaomi is rumored to have stopped the production of Redmi Note 4. The mass production of Redmi Note 4X has already started which again indicates that its release date is close at hand.

The Redmi Note 4X is expected to cost 999 Yuan ($144) for 32 GB model and 1,199 Yuan ($173) for 64 GB model.

Xiaomi released the Redmi Note 4 last August and is available in multiple RAM and processor variants. Four months later, another model called the Redmi Note 4X was seen on TENAA.

The Redmi Note 4X is said to be a beefed up version of the Redmi Note 4 and will sport the new Snapdragon 653 processor. While awaiting its official release, leaked photos of what is said to be the Redmi Note 4X have surfaced online but these pictures have us wondering if it is really the Note 4X or a different phone entirely.

The images were posted on Weibo by @kjuma and show the front and back of the device. There is no doubt that this is a Xiaomi Redmi phone as it shares design similarities with the new Redmi 4/Note 4. The front of the phone has a physical home button which definitely doubles as a fingerprint scanner, just like it is on the dual-camera Redmi Pro. At the top you have the usual sensor, speaker, and front facing camera.

On the rear of the phone, there is an antenna line and directly below it is the rear camera and LED flash. At the bottom is the Xiaomi Mi logo and another antenna line.

These images are confusing because the ones seen on TENAA (above) show a phone with a rear mounted fingerprint scanner and also doesn’t sport a physical home button.

The big question now is if Xiaomi is releasing two different Redmi Note 4X phones; a Redmi Note 4X and another phone; or if the designs are just mixed up.

Its seems that the rumored Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X is going to release soon. Its specifications have been revealed as it has received TENAA certification in China.

Earlier this week, first rumors of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X had surfaced. It revealed key specs like Snapdragon 653 chipset, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB native storage. A leaked imaged of what seems to be a real Redmi Note 4X handset has surfaced.

The leaked image shows ‘About Phone’ screen of the purported Redmi Note 4X that once again key specs like 2.0 GHz Snapdragon 653 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. Out of 64 GB native storage, 52.17 GB storage is available to the user. The handset runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS along with MIUI 8.1 skin.

Its listing on TENAA certification body has revealed additional specifications of Redmi Note 4X. Apart from 64 GB variant, the smartphone is also expected to launch in 32 GB model.

Even though recent rumors have stated that the Note 4X will feature Snapdragon 653 SoC, TENAA listing has revealed a MediaTek Helio X20 chipset variant of the smartphone. Its main camera will be of 13-megapixel and it is expected to house a massive 4,100 mAh battery.

The TENAA agency photos of Redmi Note 4X suggests that the appearance of the smartphone is quite like Redmi Note 4. The leaked photo of a live Redmi Note 4X handset suggests that it sports a curved display along with slim bezels.

It is expected to feature a 5.5-inch full HD screen. It may come with a 5-megapixel selfie camera and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. Since Redmi Note 4 lacks NFC, rumors indicate that Note 4X may feature it. It may continue to feature a microUSB port, but some rumors claim that it may arrive with a USB Type-C port.

Xiaomi has recently launched two new color editions of Redmi Note 4. Fresh rumors suggest that the Chinese company is now working on a beefed-up edition of Redmi Note 4.

The Redmi Note 4 was announced in August this year in China. The Xiaomi smartphone features MediaTek MT6797 Helio X20 chipset under its hood. Well-known leakster from China, Reviewer  has revealed on Weibo that the Redmi Note 4X may arrive as an upgraded version of Redmi Note 4.

Redmi Note 4X Key Specs

The leakster has also revealed its key specs. The rumored device is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 653 chipset. It is pegged to arrive with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of RAM.

The Redmi Note 4 is currently available for purchase in China. The Standard version of the phone that is priced at 899 Yuan ($129) features 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The High edition of Redmi Note 4 costs 1,199 Yuan ($172). It features 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of native storage.

Redmi Note 4X Arriving to Take On Meizu M5 Note?

Rumors have it that the Redmi Note 4X with 4 GB of RAM and native storage 64 GB will arrive as a rival product for Meizu M5 Note highest configuration model that features 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

As far as design is concerned, the Redmi Note 4X may not sport the chassis that is available on Note 4. Like Note 4, the Note 4X may feature 5.5-inch full HD display, Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with MIUI 8.0, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera and 4,100 mAh battery.

The Meizu M5 Note comes with a USB Type-C port, a feature that is absent on Redmi Note 4. There is no confirmation on whether the Note 4X would feature a USB Type-C port.
