China Consumer Association knocks Apple, asks to compensate Apple ID theft victims

In a recent Apple ID theft case in China, where Apple has denied compensation for some victims has got under the China Consumer Association lens. It has directed the Cupertino company to compensate all the users who have been the victim of the recent Apple ID scam in China. In the recent past, Apple cited an internal investigation that took place and revealed that the consumer accounts were hacked by phishing critical data via different schemes.

Even, consumers get to know about the Apple IDs being hacked when they received a bill of few thousand dollars in the statements. Those victims than appealed to Apple for compensation of the scammed amount. Apple compensated for some users, but many were left without any return. Later, the users who denied any kind of favour from Apple’s side reported the issue to China Consumer Association. Now, after a few days, the Chinese consumer body has criticised the Cupertino giant. They said in a statement that the company should understand its responsibility and compensate consumer’s full amount back.

In its own words, the association said, “Apple should not shift the blame, play down its own safety issues and divert consumers’ attention.”

Earlier, Apple directly pulled the blame on users by saying that the theft has happened because the two-factor authentication was not active on those accounts. Later Apple even said it in an official statement that, “small number of our users’ accounts were accessed through phishing scams where two-factor authentication was not enabled”. Even, Apple marked it as an issue that is related to the fraudulent iPhone warranty replacements which already costs billions to Apple.

Poco F1 could soon get Widevine L1 support for HD streaming

Xiaomi recently launched its first smartphone under its new ‘Poco’ sub-brand — Poco F1 with specs similar to a flagship phone at a very aggressive price point.

While the phone has been received well by the customers, it has faced a bit of criticism because of a few issues, including lack of support for HD streaming, screen bleeding, low audio, and a few software-related issues.

The phone lacks Widevine L1 support which prevents the device from streaming HD content from the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos. Now, a thread on the company’s forum by MIUI Forum admin reveals that the company is working with Google and Qualcomm to fix this issue.

It seems that Xiaomi is planning to soon release an update which will bring the widevine L1 support to POCO F1. The update is expected to be rolled out to MIUI Beta ROM users first by Q4, 2018, i.e. by the end of this year.

The company had recently released an update to fix the notification icon issue on the status bar. It is also developing 4K 60fps support for the rear camera. Additionally, users of POCO launcher will also have an option to customise desktop grid size and icon size in the future.

Previously, the company had issued a statement related to the screen bleeding issue and claimed that certain screens on MIUI 9 (MIUI for POCO) feature a gradient by design (including the power screen), and this is not screen bleeding. It added that gradient screen has been removed from MIUI 10 onwards.

The Poco F1 features a 6.18-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display which is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. The phone is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 processor and comes with LiquidCool technology.

It has a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 primary sensor, coupled with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor on the back panel. On the front side, there’s a 20-megapixel selfie camera powered with AI for capturing enhanced selfie shots.

Fresh information revealed by a reliable tipster from China claims that Samsung is actively working on a gaming smartphone. He also revealed that the phone could be equipped with its homegrown GPU.

Leaked information that had surfaced in June had claimed that the South Korean tech giant was working on a new GPU. At that time, it was reported that the company’s home-baked GPU will be made available on low-end smartphones. The Apple A11 Bionic that was introduced on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X features the custom GPU from the company. Now that Apple has attained success with its GPU, it appears that the South Korean company could be also prepping a powerful GPU for its rumored gaming smartphone.

There is no information available on the specifications of the first gaming smartphone from Xiaomi. Carl Pei says OnePlus will launch a 5G flagship smartphone next year

Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon recently revealed that there will be two 5G flagship smartphones launching next year. Then, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei joined him on stage at 4G/5G Summit 2018 in Hong Kong to make an announcement related to its 5G device.

Carl Pei announced that OnePlus will be among the first companies to launch a 5G smartphone next year, if not the first company to do so. He also revealed that OnePlus and his team had already conducted a 5G test at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego back in August.

The smartphone that Carl Pei is talking about could be the successor of the OnePlus 6T that will likely launch in mid-2019. It could be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the latest QTM052 mmWave antenna module that was introduced at the event.

This new smaller version of QTM052 mmWave antenna module will be crucial for enabling 5G connectivity on conventional smartphone form factors. Comparing this new version with the one that was launched back in July, this one is apparently 25 percent more compact.

Several manufacturers, including ASUS, Fujitsu, HMD Global, HTC, Inseego/Novatel Wireless, LG, Motorola, NetComm Wireless, NETGEAR, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, Sierra Wireless, Sony Mobile, Telit, Vivo, WNC, and Xiaomi are committed to 5G in 2019. Most of them have already started testing Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem earlier this year.

Qualcomm also announced that with the help of Ericsson, it made a successful over-the-air call from a smartphone form factor test device — powered by a Snapdragon X50 — over sub-6 GHz bands using 3GPP Rel-15 spec compliant 5G NR.

Meanwhile, OnePlus is all set to launch its latest flagship smartphone later this month — OnePlus 6T. The phone is expected to feature a 6.4-inch notched display and will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset along with 6GB/8GB of RAM. The device is confirmed to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. The company has also confirmed that it has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Snapdragon 675 officially announced with focus on gaming, imaging and AI for mid-range smartphones

In August, Qualcomm had announced the 10nm Snapdragon 670 chipset as the successor of the Snapdragon 660 SoC that was unveiled last year. The SD670 powers a couple of smartphones from leading manufacturers such as OPPO R17, Vivo X23 and Vivo Z3. Today, the U.S. based chip maker has taken off covers from the all new Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform that is built with 11nm LPP process technology as an improved version of the Snapdragon 670 SoC. The new chipset is aimed towards bringing enhanced gaming, imaging and AI features on mid-range smartphones.

The Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform is an octa-core processor that includes two performance cores of Cortex A76 working at 2.0 GHz and six power efficient cores of Cortex A55 clocking at 1.78 GHz. As mentioned above, the new chipset will be bringing some advanced features on mid-range phones that are now found only on high-end or flagship phones. The SoC is equipped with Adreno 61X graphics that carries support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Open CL 2.0, Vulkan, and DirectX 12.

The Korean giant is working on graphene batteries which is said to be much better than the Li-ion batteries. Last year, the Advanced Institute of Technology has tested graphene batteries and found that these batteries can be charged in 12 minutes. It can last longer and deteriorate less which make it more stable to use in the smartphones. These properties of graphene batteries seem to be impacting the decision of Samsung to use it soon in their upcoming devices early next year.

Samsung graphene batteries can hold 45% more charge than the current lithium-ion batteries. Graphene battery cells can be charged five times faster than the present technology. It means same capacity lithium-ion battery will take 1 hour to charge whereas the graphene battery will take only 12 minutes. Unlike the Li-ion batteries, they deteriorate less with the usage and the passage of time. These are smaller in size, which will help manufacturers utilise the same space for adding up some other things in the smart devices. Most importantly, graphene batteries won’t randomly explode making it the best option for the phones.

As per the industry insider, Samsung is done with the development of graphene batteries and they are ready to use it into devices by next year. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 specifications have not appeared on China’s TENAA telecom authority yet. With only two days remaining for the announcement of the smartphone, Xiaomi has done a good job to keep the its specs under the wraps. A Chinese tipster has today shared an image that reveals the key specs of the smartphone. The leak suggests that it could be the first Snapdragon 855 chipset driven smartphone.

Qualcomm is pegged to debut the 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset in December this year. Moreover, the chipset is also expected to arrive with a different moniker of Snapdragon 8150. Hence, the new leak sounds a bit unreliable. Xiaomi and Qualcomm have developed good relationship in the recent years. This allowed Xiaomi to launch the Mi MIX 2S as one of the first phones with Snapdragon 845 SoC. So, it appears that Mi fans will have to wait for further reports to confirm on the SoC of the Mi MIX 3. A report that had surfaced at the beginning of this month had also claimed that the Mi MIX 3 is fueled by Snapdragon 855.

The new leak reveals that the Snapdragon 855 chipset of the Mi MIX 3 will be equipped with 8 GB of RAM and an inbuilt storage of 256 GB. For photography, it will be fitted with 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera setup. Probably, this could be these could be the new camera sensors that will allow the Mi MIX 3 to support 960 fps slow-motion video shooting.

The above image states that the Mi MIX 3 will be featuring a 6.4-inch display. It was recently revealed by investigating on an image shared by Xiaomi on Weibo that the display of the Mi MIX 3 will carry support for Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The handset will be packed with 3,850mAh battery. Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Mi MIX 3 will be equipped with faster wireless charging technology. The Mi MIX 2S supports 7.5W wireless charging. Hence, the Mi MIX 3 could be equipped with 10W or above.

Ulefone Armor 3T GPS test affirms its precision and accuracy

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro to make its global debut with October 23 launch in Taiwan

Xiaomi is about to launch the latest Mi 8 Pro outside China and Taiwan is set to be the first destination. Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro was launched in China a couple of weeks back as an upgraded version of the Mi 8 with it having as a standout feature, an in-display fingerprint sensor. The flagship device has been confirmed to launch on October 23 in Taiwan. The device will be available online via Xiaomi Mall and on Mi Store for a price of NT$15,999 ($516, 3600 yuan).

The price is said to be for the 8GB RAM+128GB variant and is the same with the price tag in China which is 3,599 Yuan ( ~$524). The Mi 8 Pro also comes in a 6GB RAM+128GB storage variant with a 3199 yuan ($465) price tag.

As a reminder, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro features a 6.21-inch notch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2248 x 1080 pixels. In terms of camera, there are dual 12MP sensors on the back with OIS and optical zoom. On the front side, there’s a 20MP f/2.0 camera sensor housed inside the notch. The main feature of the device is an under-display fingerprint sensor, which brings convenience for the users to unlock the device. The device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 processor and runs on MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. There is also a 3,000mAh battery with support for fast charging technology.

Mysterious Galaxy A phone specs leak reveal Snapdragon 710, 19.5:9 display and triple cameras

A Chinese tipster has recently revealed that Samsung will be releasing its first Snapdragon 710 smartphone in early January 2019. Another source on Twitter has revealed the model number of the smartphone along with some of its key specs.

The exact name of the Samsung’s upcoming Snapdragon 710 driven is not known yet. However, the new leak reveals that its model number is SM-G8870 and it will belong to the A-series of smartphones.

The recent phones from Samsung are equipped with Infinity Display design with 18.5:9 tall aspect ratio screens. The SM-G8870 phone is rumored to arrive with AMOLED display that will offer an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

The handset will be packed with 3,000mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) that was announced recently is the first Samsung phone to come with triple rear cameras. The new leak reveals that the SM-G8870 will be also equipped with triple cameras on its rear.

Since the mysterious Samsung Galaxy A phone is expected to go official in January 2019, it is likely to arrive with Android 9 Pie OS onboard. There is no information on the RAM and storage editions of the smartphone.

The Galaxy A9 (2018) which is the world’s quad rear camera smartphone is fueled by Snapdragon 660. The SM-G8870 smartphone that is fueled by Snapdragon 710 will be positioned higher than the Galaxy A9 (2018).

Samsung is now working on regaining its lost glory in China. It will be debuting the A9 (2018) as the Galaxy A9s in China on Oct. 24. The Galaxy A6s is also tipped to get unveiled alongside it. Both phones are expected to sport color gradient options. The SM-G8870 phone that is tipped to arrive in early 2019 will be yet another attempt from the South Korean company to increase its market share in China.
