The ASUS Zenfone 5Z Is The Cheapest Snapdragon 845 Phone in Europe

When the ASUS Zenfone 5Z was announced earlier this year, we called it the new flagship killer as a result of its low price. Its $499 starting price meant that other flagship killers from manufacturers like OnePlus and Xiaomi would have to price their flagship lower to beat it.

Typical of ASUS, the Zenfone 5Z is just going on sale nearly four months after it was announced. The OnePlus 6 which is supposed to be its closest rival has already been available for purchase for a few weeks now. Nevertheless, the Zenfone 5Z comes with a cheaper price tag than the OnePlus flagship. Currently, it is the cheapest Snapdragon 845 phone in Europe.

ASUS Zenfone 5Z

With a starting price tag of €499 in Europe, the ASUS Zenfone 5Z is cheaper than the €519 OnePlus 6 with the same amount of RAM and storage. However, ASUS says you can even get it for €449 if you order it between now and July 15. This makes the Zenfone 5 not only €70 cheaper than the OnePlus 6 but also cheaper than the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S priced at €499 in Italy.

ASUS is actually offering a €50 rebate when you purchase the phone. You also get €50 off the 8GB RAM + 256GB model which is originally priced at €600.

The ASUS Zenfone 5Z has a 6.2-inch display with a 1080 x 2246 resolution. It has a notch at the top of the display which gives it an unusual 18.7:9 aspect ratio.

Just like its closest competitors, the Mi MIX 2S and OnePlus 6, the Zenfone 5Z also has dual rear cameras. One is a 12MP f/1.8 sensor and the other is an 8MP f/2.0 sensor. It also has an 8MP sensor camera within the notch.

Sony Xperia XZ3 Leaked Hands-On Photos Reveal Design and Dual Cameras

Since Sony follows a pattern of launching smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February and IFA tech trade show in September, it is expected to unleash a new flagship phone at the upcoming IFA 2018 event is scheduled to be held between Aug. 31 and Sept. 5 later this year. Earlier this week, a leaked specs sheet of the rumored Xperia XZ3 smartphone had surfaced online. Some rumors claim that the handset may either debut as Xperia XZ3 or Xperia XZ2s. Today, fresh photos of a prototype of the alleged XZ3 phone have emerged today. Design-wise, the smartphone appears very similar to the XZ2. However, one major difference between the two phones is that the upcoming XZ3 features a vertical dual camera setup on its rear.

Nothing much can be deduced from the front image of the phone. It only shows that its top bezel is equipped with an earpiece and a selfie camera. Since the handset looks like the Xperia XZ2, it is likely that the XZ3 will feature an 18:9 display with thick bezels on its sides. The second image shows the rear view of the phone, but it is so blurry that it only confirms that it has a glossy/reflective back panel.

The third and fourth images show the vertically dual camera setup of the alleged Xperia XZ3. The two cameras and the fingerprint scanner appear to be arranged very close to each other. The right edge of the phone houses the power key and volume rocker.

There is no confirmation on whether these images are not fake. Hence, it is advisable to digest this report with pinch of salt.

Even on the specs department, the Find X will be on par with NEX smartphone as the company has already confirmed that it features Snapdragon 845, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of inbuilt storage. Some of the stellar features that are expected to be available on the Find X include 3D facial recognition, dual cameras with 5x loseless zoom,  Super VOOC fast charging, in-display fingerprint scanner and support for 5G connectivity.

Since the official launch date of June 19 is nearly a week away, OPPO will continue to build hype around Find X by releasing teasers. The launch event is scheduled to take place at The Louvre in Paris, France on the said date at 8:45 PM (GMT+2).

Samsung Galaxy S10, LG G8 Could be Equipped with Sound-Emitting Screen

In the previous month, Samsung had showcased its sound-emitting display concept at the Society of Information Displays (SID) 2018. The concept does not feature an earpiece. Instead, the vibration and bone conduction of the display panel carries out the purpose of an earpiece. Since the device does not feature an earpiece, the upper and lower bezels can be reduced further to house a larger screen. Citing industry sources, a South Korean publication has claimed that Samsung and LG will be using this advanced screen technology on flagship smartphones releasing next year.

The exact size of the sound-emitting display that Samsung may use on its 2019 flagships is 6.2 inches. The publication claims that even LG is prepping to launch flagship phones with such a technology in the coming year. The Galaxy S9+ has a 6.2-inch display. It may so happen that Samsung may use the sound integrated 6.2-inch display in a more compact body on the upcoming Galaxy S10. The smartphone may still feature a slightly thick upper bezel as it is expected to house 3D sensing camera and iris scanner.

The transmission bandwidth of the sound integrated display is between a range of 100 and 800 Hz. The fine vibrations make it possible to hear the sound only when the user places his on a wide arear at the top portion of display. Vivo NEX that offers a huge screen space of 91.24 percent has all its sensors embedded under its display. The smartphone also uses a similar sound-emitting display which is dubbed as Screen SoundCasting technology by Vivo.

LG’s Crystal Sound OLED TVs and LED lights are also equipped with sound-emitting screen. The South Korean company is now gearing up to make this technology available on its flagship phones. A recent report had revealed that the LG G8 arriving next year may feature a 4K LCD display, but there is no confirmation whether sound sensors will be placed under its screen.
