A Briton has filed a lawsuit against Apple alleging battery throttling of older iPhones. The legal claim by consumer rights advocate Justin Gutmann is worth £750 million ($927 million). Gutmann is seeking reimbursement for the over 25 million affected iPhone users in the United Kingdom. He claims Apple took a secret decision to slow down older iPhones in 2017.

Justin Gutmann stated that Apple made older iPhones to be slower in coping with software updates. An undocumented battery management update released in January 2017 led to the slow performance of older iPhones. This was to prevent the devices from shutting down without warning. Apple did not provide users with an option of disabling the battery management setting. In addition, the company did not warn users that their phones were being deliberately throttled. Gutmann alleged that the throttling was meant to mask the fact that the older iPhone batteries couldn’t cope with the new update demands.

Gutmann launched the claim against Apple at the Competition Appeals Tribunal. The claim, if successful, will cover the 25 million older iPhones in the UK that were affected. The affected phones included the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, and SE. Others were the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. Gutmann said Apple ought to have initiated a battery replacement program or admit that the update was unsuitable for older devices. Rather, the company allowed users to install the update knowing that it will worsen their device’s performance.

Gutmann says Apple was unethical in its approach to the issue as it ought to have come out clean to its customers. The concealment meant that some users experienced significant slowdowns in their devices. He says he was pursuing the case on behalf of millions of iPhone users across the UK. He also hopes that the case will spur dominant companies to review their business models and desist from such unwholesome conduct.

It was after a year that Apple had acknowledged the throttling issues. It claimed that the update was meant to address the problem of older phones shutting down. It claims it never set out to intentionally shorten the life of the affected phones. Apple continues to grapple with a litany of lawsuits challenging various aspects of its operations. This new lawsuit adds to the list. If successful, older iPhone users in the UK could get up to $30 from Apple.

Apple has introduced the iPhone XS as the upgraded version of the iPhone X that was launched last year. The iPhone XS Max featuring a huge 6.5-inch OLED screen was unveiled alongside it. Fresh information reveals with the arrival of the 2018 iPhones, Apple has discontinued older iPhones like iPhone 6S and iPhone SE. The Cupertino company has also halted the sales of the iPhone X permanently.

It is unusual for Apple to discontinue iPhone X because the company is known for slashing the price of previous year’s model with the arrival of a new smartphone. Instead of selling the iPhone X with a reduced pricing, Apple has decided to kill it.

It is now being speculated that if Apple would have sold the iPhone X with discounted pricing, it may not have earned good profits for the company since the cost of materials required would not have decreased significantly. It appears that the iPhone XR that has a starting price of $749 is a good replacement for the iPhone X.

Now that the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus and iPhone SE have been discontinued, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are the new entry-level phones from the company. Both phones are respectively priced at $449 and $569. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are respectively priced at $599 and $699.

Since the 4-inch iPhone SE is no longer available for buying, the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 are the smallest iPhones available for buying in the U.S. At present, the iPhone X, iPhone 6S, 6S Plus and iPhone SE could be available for buying in some countries, but they will be soon discontinued with the release of new iPhones.

The iPhone XR comes in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB storage options. These models are respectively priced at $749, $799 and $899. The storage variants of the iPhone X are 64 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. These variants are respectively cost $999, $1,149 and $1,349. The 64 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB iPhone XS Max models are respectively price at $1,099, $1,249 and $1,449.

Xiaomi has recently dethroned Samsung to become the number smartphone brand in India. The Chinese manufacturer was able to grab the number one spot because of the highly popular mid-range Redmi Note and Redmi smartphones. However, Xiaomi is not doing well in the market for premium tier smartphones. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had recently claimed that the Mi MIX 2 was not received well by the Indian customers. Fresh information reveals that the premium market was mainly dominated by phones like Samsung Galaxy S9+, Galaxy S9 and OnePlus 5T in the first quarter of this year. This has allowed Samsung to once again lead the premium tier market in India.

According to the latest market survey conducted by Counterpoint Research, the premium tier constitutes only 4 percent of the entire smartphone market in India. It has also stated that Samsung, OnePlus and Apple are the three main phone manufacturers that together account for 95 percent of the premium tier market.

In Q4 2018, Apple had reigned over the premium phones market in India because of phones like iPhone X and iPhone 8 series that were launched in the same quarter. The research firm claims Apple is now pushed to third position in Q1 2018 because of poor demand and increased import taxes that has led to overall volume decline of 55 percent. However, the company has been enjoying consistent sales for older iPhones on Amazon India and Flipkart.

The Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy A8+ smartphones that were unveiled in the first quarter of this year have received good reception in India. Samsung’s popularity in the premium segment buoyed by the arrival of Galaxy S9 duo that has allowed it capture half of the premium market along with a year-on-year growth 16 percent.

OnePlus is in the second position in the premium market in India. The Chinese brand has shown the most stability as it has been holding to the same position since three consecutive quarters. Its limited-edition variants like Lava Red and Star Wars themed model that was exclusively launched in India along with brick-and-mortar sales allowed to remain popular for Galaxy S9, iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

The upcoming OnePlus 6 is expected to increase the market share of the company in the premium segment since it has opened new stores and achieved wider brand awareness. Huawei has recently launched the P20 Pro in India and HMD Global has just released Nokia 8 Sirocco in the country. Both the companies are expected to compete with Samsung, OnePlus and Apple in the second quarter of the year.

It has been able to raise over $160 million through the sale of (RED) products and it plans to do more. This year, Apple has released the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Edition as well as accessories for other products. And just like before, a percentage of the profits will be passed on to the organization.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus originally launched in Gold, Space Gray, and Silver. if you don’t fancy any of those colors, you can buy the (PRODUCT)RED versions and also contribute to charity. What is even better is that unlike the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED which have white bezels, these two come with black bezels.

Sadly, the iPhone X didn’t get a Product(RED) version but Apple released red cases (leather and silicone) for it and older models. They also released (PRODUCT)RED straps for the Apple Watch.

According to @OnLeaks, an unverified source “confirmed” that new red iPhone(s) is on the way and may be released this month. We don’t know if Apple is only releasing one new red iPhone or multiple. So we may get to see a red iPhone X, or a red iPhone 8/8 Plus or all three or just two. We do not know if Apple will be partnering with (PRODUCT)^RED this time.

The iPhone X comes in Space Gray and Silver but we can all agree that it will look better in red, not that I intend buying one. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus come in the above colors too including a gold variant.

A comment from another Twitter user says the red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been heavily discounted on Comcast. This is probably to clear stock for the new ones.

A recent research finding showed that public interest on Apple‘s latest flagship iPhones was on the low side across all three major U.S carriers – AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. As if that wasn’t enough, a second research analysis has emerged painting a not-so-promising picture of the performance of Apple’s  latest products. The latest data showed that U.S sales of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X represented a 61% sales of all iPhone sales in America last quarter.

Apple’s 2016 flagships – iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were able to command a much higher 72% sales of the total iPhones sold back then in Q4 2016. It is quite understandable that most fans preferred the iPhone X and so the late release of the X may have impacted on sales of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. Despite joining the party late, the iPhone X accounted for roughly 20% of all iPhones sold between October and December. So, it is expected that the records would tilt in favor of the new iPhones when the first quarter of 2018 ends in March.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus still continue to sell strongly, accounting for about 25% of iPhone sales in Q4. This is followed by the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with an 8% share, and at the bottom end of the table is the iPhone SE which happens to have the lowest specs among the lot. The iPhone 8 accounted for the most sales of all three new iPhones in the quarter under review. That is an indication that it is preferred better than the bigger-sized iPhone 8 Plus by many of those who have bought one already in the U.S.

Apple has increased prices of most of its smartphones in India after the government of India raised taxes on imported phones last week. The move of hike in customs duties seems to be aimed at boosting local production under its ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The Cupertino-based company has raised prices of most iPhones in India by 3 percent to 5 percent. The pricing for the iPhone 6 has been increased by Rs. 1,280 and now it costs Rs. 30,780 (approx. $481).

The smartphone model which witnessed the highest hike in price is the iPhone X, with an increase of Rs. 3,072 in its price in India. It now retails at Rs. 92,430 (approximately $1,443) for the 64GB variant and Rs. 1,05,720 (approximately $1,650) for the 256GB variant.

The iPhone 6s is available at Rs. 41,550 for the 32GB variant, while the 128GB variant will be available for Rs. 50,660. The 32GB and 128GB variants of iPhone 6s Plus are now priced at Rs. 50,740 and Rs. 59,860, respectively.

The iPhone 7 now costs Rs. 50,810 for the 32GB variant, while the 128GB variant is available for Rs. 59,910. The iPhone 7 Plus will now be available at Rs. 61,060 for the 32GB variant and Rs. 70,180 for the 128GB variant.

Apple’s recently launched iPhone 8 is available for purchase at Rs. 66,120 for the 64GB variant while the 256GB variant now costs Rs. 79,420. The iPhone 8 Plus is priced at Rs. 75, 450 for the 64GB variant and the 256GB will be available for Rs. 88,750.

The only iPhone model which has been exempted from this price increase if the iPhone SE, which is being manufactured locally in India. Apple’s Taiwanese contract manufacturer Wistron is assembling iPhone SE in the technology hub of Bengaluru.

The Apple iPhone X sales have started from today. Fresh reports have revealed that the iPhone X buyers have formed large queues outside Apple stores across the world. iFixit has done a teardown of the iPhone X to reveal what’s present inside of the iPhone X.  It has revealed that Apple has included a pair of batteries inside the smartphone and a surprisingly small-sized logic board.

From inside, the iPhone X does not appear very different any other iPhone. However, there are some noticeable changes under the back panel of the phone. First of all, the iPhone X includes two batteries that are arranged in L shape. The total size of the battery is 2,716mAh. The Cupertino company may have split the battery in a bid to fit other components around the batteries.

Another thing to not is that the iPhone X has a smaller motherboard. The size of the logic board is 70 percent the size of the motherboard of iPhone 8 Plus. The reduction in the size of the motherboard may have allowed the company to include larger capacity battery inside the iPhone X which is slightly bigger than the 4.7-inch iPhone 8.

Also, the teardown video shows that the Apple has added a bit of water-proofing foam inside the iPhone X. During the launch event of iPhone 8, 8 Plus and Phone X, Apple had announced that these phones feature IP67 certified chassis.

The Cupertino company has used a new bracket for the rear-mounted dual cameras which provides cushion to the sensors. The Lightning connector is also reinforced with a wider bracket. The earpiece of the iPhone X has been moved down a bit to house the TrueDepth camera system that include IR illuminators, dot projectors and cameras. It appears that the iPhone X features a vertically stacked dual rear cameras to accommodate the TrueDepth Camera system.

The Apple iPhone X teardown by iFixit also reveals the Apple A11 Bionic chip and SK Hynix-branded LPDDR4x 3 GB RAM. Toshiba has supplied the 64 GB internal storage for the iPhone X and it also features a Snapdragon X16 LTE modem that springs into action for high-speed data connectivity.

Apple will start receiving the pre-orders of the iconic iPhone X from Oct. 27. Recent reports have revealed that the Cupertino company would be shipping only 2 to 3 million iPhone X units on its Nov. 3 release date. Also, the company is speculated to ship only 20 million units of the smartphone until the end of this year. However, an earlier prediction by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the company would be shipping 30 to 35 million iPhone X units before the end of 2017. Rumors had also claimed that Apple may delay the release of iPhone X. A recent report by Bloomberg reveals that the company has managed to make the iPhone X available on time by reducing the accuracy of its face identification feature.

Apple introduced face scanning feature called Face ID for the first time on the iPhone X that was unveiled on Sept. 12. To explain that the new Face ID is highly secure than Touch ID, Apple had claimed at the launch event of the iPhone X that the probability of fooling the robust Face ID security feature 1 in 1,000,000. Recent reports have revealed that the production of the iPhone X has been impacted because of the highly complex TrueDepth Camera system and Face ID.

The Face ID sensor consists of three components such as a dot projector, flood illuminator and an IR (infrared camera). The function of the flood illuminator is to emit infrared light to lighten up the face of the user and then the camera manages to identify the face because of the produced light. The dot projector will emit 30,000 dots on the face. The light bounces back to confirm whether the pattern of the face resembles with the registered face.

Manufacturing the dot projector is a difficult task as a difference of even a micron between it and the overlying glass can lead to inaccurate results. In a bid to make the iPhone X available by Nov. 3, it appears that the Cupertino company has reduced the accuracy of the face scanner. It is unclear that whether doing so can hamper the quality of the face scans.

Previous reports have revealed that Apple had also faced issues with the manufacturing of OLED panels. The reason behind it is that the company requires customized OLED panels with u-shaped cut at the top to house the TrueDepth Camera system. The AnTuTu benchmarks of Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro that have surfaced recently indicate that the performance of the Kirin 970 is on par with Snapdragon 835.

The above image seems to show the AnTuTu benchmarks score of a Huawei phone with a model number of BLA-L29. The same model has been spotted with 6 GB of RAM multiples times on Geekbench over the past week. The BLA-L29 is the Mate 10 Pro and it has recorded an impressive score of 173,757 on AnTuTu.

The Mate 10 Pro has a 6-inch FHD+ OLED screen that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. It includes 128 GB of storage. It has a 20-megapixel + 12-megapixel Leica certified dual rear cameras and is fueled by a 4,000mAh battery.

Huawei Mate 10 AnTuTu Benchmarks

The above image seems to belong to the regular Mate 10 as the model number of ALP-AL00 has appeared with 4 GB of RAM on the benchmarking site numerous times in the recent past. On AnTuTu, it has managed to score even higher with 176,174 points. Also, the listing shown in the above image seems to be authentic as the official AnTuTu site has the same listing sans the scores of Mate 10.

The Mate 10 has a 5.9-inch LCD screen that supports QHD resolution. It also features the same dual camera system and 4,000mAh battery that is available on the Mate 10 Pro.

Coming to the AnTuTu benchmarks, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro have managed to list among the top 7 best performing smartphones. The Apple A11 Bionic chipset powered iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 are respectively leading AnTuTu benchmarks with respective scores of 212,728 and 205,386. The Snapdragon 835 powered OnePlus 5 and ZTE Nubia Z17 that have respectively scored 181,410 and 177,770 are ranking ahead of Mate 10.

The Mate 10 Pro is not present in the above list, but its score of 173,757 should land it behind HTC U11 that has a score of 175,970. The Mate 10 and 10 Pro are also ahead of SD 835 powered Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ on AnTuTu

The above ranking shows that the Kirin 970 powered Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are scoring similar benchmark scores as Snapdragon 835 on AnTuTu. This indicates that Huawei has managed to create a beasty chipset that can rival with Snapdragon 835.

Soon after the announcement of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X, Kuo had predicted that all the 2018 iPhones will feature Face ID. His new statement confirms the same information. Earlier this week, he had claimed that the 2018 iPad Pro models will also feature TrueDepth Camera and Face ID.

The rumor mill has claimed that Apple wanted to incorporate fingerprint scanner under the display of its premium iPhone X that features an OLED panel. However, since it could not ready the technology on time, it had to ditch the feature.

The newly introduced Face ID not only users to unlock smartphone by simply looking at the iPhone X, but also it can be used for authenticating payments on Apple Pay. The Cupertino company has claimed that the Face ID security feature is extremely accurate and the possibility of someone bypassing it is considerably lesser than fingerprint recognition.

One should be aware of the fact that Face ID on iPhone X currently supports only one face per device. Hence, the feature is not very convenient for users who like to share their iPhones with family members. However, family members can still use the same device by entering a pin code when it fails to recognize a face. There is no such problem with Touch ID as users can register up to 10 individual fingerprints.

Various Android phone makers are also expected to introduce facial recognition feature on their smartphones through a system like TrueDepth Camera from Apple. Hence, we may soon see Android phones in future with facial recognition feature.

Apple’s latest iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have been repeatedly plagued by one major problem (call it minor if you like) and it is related to the battery. There have been a couple of reported cases of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus units with swollen batteries which usually result in the display popping out of the chassis. Some of the cases occurred while the phones were charging for the first time and there was a case of the defect occurring while the new iPhone is yet to be unboxed.

Although Apple has indicated that they are looking into the issue, the number of cases seems to swell by the day. We have had a case reported in Japan and Taiwan. There have also been reports from Canada, China Greece and Hong Kong. A case has also been reported in the Formosa region in Argentina. So, we may well be looking at least seven cases which are randomly shared between the iPhone 8 and its bigger variant iPhone 8 Plus.

We are not quick to compare this with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 because there has been no reported case of battery explosion. Besides, millions of iPhones come off the production line overseas, and thereby millions of lithium-ion batteries are being manufactured, so it’s common in the industry for there to be a very low percentage of defective units. But it may interest you to know that Samsung SDI is one of the two suppliers of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus batteries. Samsung SDI is also responsible for the defective batteries which resulted in the Galaxy Note 7’s recall. LG Chem also produces the batteries for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Until Apple releases its findings, we can’t tell the root cause of the issue. Until they do, we do hope the number of cases won’t continue to rise.

Cases of iPhone 8 Plus which burst open possibly due to battery failures are piling up by the day. Not too long ago, we only reported two cases but not, there has been a total of six different cases reported with pictures showing the damaged devices. The latest report comes from a MacRumors reader, Anthony Wu based in Toronto, Canada who claimed to have bought his units on Sunday but had to return it after the display burst open. The burst up is fingered to be as a result of a defective battery inside the iPhone that swelled and placed pressure on the assembly.

Another report was logged in by iRepair, an Apple products repair shop based in Greece. The unit (pictured below) was left to charge overnight on the night after purchase and by the morning, the deed was done, iPhone was gone. What makes this case spectacular is that the owner was supposedly using only an official Apple power adapter and Lightning to USB cable.

These latest reports bring the total number of cases of iPhone 8 Plus battery failures to six, following reports in Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong last week. Apple had earlier reacted to the reports that it was aware and that an investigation was underway to determine the possible cause. But since then, there has been no update.

However, with millions of iPhones coming off the production line overseas, and thereby millions of lithium-ion batteries being manufactured, it’s common in the industry for there to be a very low percentage of defective units. So far, there have been no case of exploding battery to warrant comparing this to the Galaxy Note 7. Moreover, we are still in the early days, six cases of suspected iPhone 8 Plus battery failure out of millions of devices probably isn’t much cause for full-blown concern at this point. We’ll keep you updated if more cases are reported.

DxOMark is a benchmarking platform for smartphone cameras. Last year, the Google Pixel had achieved the highest score of 89 on it. Its record was broken by HTC U11 this year when it scored 90. In September, DxOMark had revised its tests and scores for smartphone cameras. The Google Pixel and HTC U11 now have a revised score of 90.  The iPhone 8 has a DxOMark score of 92. Until the arrival of Samsung Galaxy Note8, the iPhone 8 Plus enjoyed the numero uno position on the smartphone camera benchmarking platform with a score of 94. Now, Galaxy Note 8 has joined iPhone 8 Plus with a highest score of 94.

The Galaxy Note 8 has recorded a score of 100 in still photography tests because of its brilliant zoom at up to 4x, stellar low light photography with very low noise, fast and accurate autofocus, rich and detailed photography at outdoor and indoor conditions. The mobile camera benchmarking platform has called the Galaxy Note 8 as the best smartphone for zoom.

Some of the drawbacks that were noticed in still photography are limited dynamic range, rapid white balance casts while shooting photos indoors or in bright conditions. Sometimes the dual cameras could not shoot photos with bokeh effect even after enabling the mode.

The video capture test brought down the overall camera rating of the Note 8 as it managed to score only 84 points in this segment. The default mode of video shooting does not have autofocus tracking capability. Residual motion can be seen when the camera is held still while shooting videos. Highlight clipping was also observed in high-contrast scenes.

The cameras of Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are expected to soon undergo testing in the forthcoming weeks. The iPhone 8 and Galaxy Note 8 that are tied at the first position on DxOMark are equipped with dual rear cameras. However, the Pixel 2 duo are enabled with single cameras on their back panel. Hence, we will have to wait a bit more to see whether the Pixel 2 with its single camera can score higher than the iPhone 8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 on DxOMark.

A survey has been conducted which is aimed at getting an idea of the number of iPhone users who would go for any of Apple‘s latest iPhone models. The research determined that fewer consumers want to buy one of the new iPhones compared to last year. The research conducted by RBC Capital Markets showed a decline in the percentage of possible iPhone buyers who would want either of the iPhone 8, 8 Plus or iPhone when compared to last year.

The survey was conducted among 4000 respondents and the findings indicated that 64% of possible iPhone buyers want one of the Apple iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus or an iPhone X, as against last year’s survey findings which showed that 71% of prospective iPhone buyers wanted an Apple iPhone 7 or Apple iPhone 7 Plus. That doesn’t in any way mean the iPhone 7 is more popular than its successors but RBC offered an explanation that Apple has kept too many options available for possible iPhone buyers to choose from, by failing to eliminate 2015’s Apple iPhone 6s.

Despite the lesser number of interests in the new iPhones, this is one time when less is more. Because of the higher price of the iPhone X, Apple will likely rake in more profits from its latest models than previous editions. RBC remains positive and bullish about the prospects of the models in the market. More than half of the potential buyers in the survey indicated that they will purchase the highest storage variant of the iPhone X and with its higher price tag, that would be a huge boost to Apple’s revenue, as well as its profits. The iPhone X with 64GB storage has a retail price of $999 while the higher storage version with 256GB storage costs $1,149. With so much hype surrounding the product, it still isn’t available to buy. Pre-orders will commence on October 27th while the iPhone X is expected to go on sale from November 3rd.

Last week there were two reports on the internet of the iPhone 8 Plus having swollen batteries. One report from Taiwan said the battery became swollen during charging with the official charger and cable. The second report from Japan said the phone arrived from Apple with the battery swollen and had even popped the screen out of its position.

Apple says it will investigate the cases of the swollen batteries, so as to determine what caused them. Carrying out an investigation is said to be Apple’s routine for cases like this even for older models.

Should potential buyers stay off buying the iPhone 8 Plus for now? We can’t say as these are just two units and sources say it is within the normal failure rate for lithium-ion batteries. Unless it becomes a big deal like the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 should customers begin to worry.

The Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have been available for buying in various markets across the world including Taiwan since Sept. 22. Initial reports have revealed that apart from the crackling noise issue while making calls for which Apple will be releasing a software fix soon, the iPhone 8 duo do not have any other major problem. However, people in Taiwan may not be too excited about purchasing an iPhone 8 Plus as a case about its explosion is being reported by Taiwanese media.

According to Taiwanese media, a woman named Wu from Taichung City had purchased the gold variant of the 64 GB iPhone 8 Plus on Sept. 23. The phablet was working fine until Tuesday afternoon, when it exploded while it was kept on charging.

With 70 percent of the battery power left on the iPhone 8 Plus, the woman had kept it for charging by using the original charger. Reports claim that the handset exploded in just 3 minutes. The following images show that the impact of the explosion was such that it separated the display panel from its body.

At the launch event of Apple iPhone X, the company had claimed that its pre-orders will start on Oct. 27 and its shipments will begin on Nov. 3. However, since the smartphone is speculated to be manufactured in limited quantities, it seems that its shipments may not begin on Nov. 3.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have been available in the market since Sept. 22. However, since buyers are more interested in getting the iPhone X that features an edge-to-edge 5.8-inch screen and facial recognition feature, the consumer interest for the iPhone 8 duo has been low compared to prior years. However, as mentioned above, even though iPhone X is seeing huge demand, the Cupertino company may not be to fulfill its promise of releasing it in the market in November.

Fresh information reveals that the production of iPhone X is progressing at a slow pace. A recent report had revealed that the TrueDepth camera system that is required for the Face ID to work is causing the delay in the production of the iPhone X.

Apple is expected to receive millions of pre-orders for the iPhone X. However, the company is able to manufacture only tens of thousands of units each day.  Reports suggest that Apple will end up manufacturing only 10 to 12 million units of the iPhone X by the end of 2017. This is surely insufficient to meet the huge demand.

The other component that is causing problem in the production of iPhone X is its OLED screen. The reason behind it is that Apple wants the OLED panels to be made in a certain way to accommodate the notch at the top of the screen. This notch houses the TrueDepth camera system and other sensors.

Former Apple analyst Gene Munster has claimed that the iPhone X may not release until January at the earliest. After the launch of OLED panel enabled iPhone X, speculations started swirling that all the next-generation iPhones coming next year would be feature OLED screens. However, according to a new report on The Wall Street Journal, some of the iPhones arriving next year would be equipped with full screen LCD panels from Japan Display (JDI).

The publication has reported that the Cupertino company has expressed interest in using Full Active LCD panel from Japan Display that was unveiled in June this year. The Full Active display technology can offer the features of OLED panels at a reduced price. This can effectively allow Apple to earn profits without investing more money on OLED panels for all iPhones.

JDI’s Full Active panel is a 6-inch flexible LCD screen that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9 and produces full HD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. OLED panels have 1mm bezel, but Full Active LCD panels have slimmer bezels of 0.5mm. Moreover, it can produce deep black colors.

Full Active LCD panels are already present in some of the smartphones. The edge-to-edge display available on the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 smartphone features the Full Active LCD panel. Hence, it sports a full screen design like OLED-based smartphones such as Apple iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Apple is solely dependent on Samsung’s OLED panels for iPhone X because other manufacturers like LG and JDI are unable to mass produce OLED panels to meet the requirements of the Cupertino company. It is spending around $120 to $130 on each OLED panel from Samsung for the iPhone X. However, it is spending nearly $45 to $50 for LCD panels of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

It is now speculated that until other suppliers such as LG and JDI do not start mass productions of OLED panels, the Cupertino company may continue to rely on Full Active LCD panels from JDI. Reports have revealed that JDI will be mass producing OLED panels in April 2019. This indicates that all the iPhones that will be launched in 2019 may come with OLED screens. As far as 2018 is concerned, one of the iPhones may possibly feature a 6-inch display.

IHS has revealed that Apple spends $247.51 on all the components of a single unit of 64 iPhone 8. The costs of materials for a 32 GB iPhone 7 from last year is $237.94. This shows that the cost of materials for building a base model of iPhone 8 has increased this year. The 32 GB IPhone 7 was launched with a price tag of $649, but the 64 iPhone 8 carries a higher price of $699.

When it comes to iPhone 8 Plus, its components cost $288.80 while the parts of the iPhone 7 Plus cost $270.88. The 64 GB iPhone 8 Plus is selling for $799 whereas the 32 GB iPhone 7 Plus was launched with a price tag of $769.

Like last year, cost of the materials that goes into an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus is around 35 percent of the retail price. One of should be aware of the fact that it does not include other expenses such as manufacturing, software and R&D.

Each unit of the A11 Bionic processor that powers the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus costs $5 more to manufacture in bulk. Increasing the storage from 32 GB to 64 GB has also resulted in spending $6 apiece more. Apple has spent $31.20 and $27.50 respectively on NAND memory by SanDisk and A11 Bionic processor. The screen of the iPhone 8 Plus costs around $52.50 and the layer of Gorilla Glass placed on it costs around $51. The Cupertino company has spent $32.50 on its enhanced camera system.

The inclusion of premium glass chassis, faster chipset, enhanced cameras and increased storage on base models on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is the reason why Apple is respectively charging $50 and $30 more than their predecessors.

On Friday, a forum member of MacRumors had created a thread to discuss on the cracking noise issue that he has been facing on his iPhone 8 Plus. Since then a number of iPhone 8 Plus users from the U.S., Australia and Europe have expressed on the thread that they are also facing the same issue.

The crackling noise can be heard through the earpiece of iPhone 8 Plus only while making or receiving a phone call. However, the problem does not occur when headphones are connected or if the speakerphone feature is enabled. This indicates that it may not be a earpiece or speaker related hardware.

It has been also found that the crackling noise occurs even when Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE and noise cancelling are enabled or disabled. The support team of Apple is aware of the issue and they have suggested users to fix the issue by performing factory reset and use iCloud backup to carry out the setup again. However, some users are still experiencing the problem even after resetting their iPhone 8 Plus.

Users who have tried exchanging their iPhone 8 Plus after experiencing the issue are still encountering the same problem on the exchanged handsets. DxOMark has just released its latest ratings and revise their testing procedure in order to accommodate modern smartphone camera features. As a result of the update, Apple has once again emerged as the King of Smartphone Cameras with the iPhone 8 Plus currently occupying the top spot on DxOMark’s rating. The iPhone 8 Plus is closely followed by its contemporary- the iPhone 8. DxOMark is a website providing image quality ratings for standalone cameras, lenses, and mobile devices that include cameras. It is owned by DxO Labs.

It would be recalled that the iPhone 8 comes with a single camera while the iPhone 8 Plus comes with dual rear cameras. This is why the 8 Plus scored higher because DxOMark’s new metrics now take into account features like bokeh, zoom, and more, some of which are not present in the smaller iPhone 8 or 7 models also with a single rear camera. That notwithstanding, the iPhone 8 still managed to floor all other smartphones released so far this year.

The shipments of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus shipments have started in the last week. Both the smartphones carry plenty of improved features compared to last year’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. For instance, instead of the metal unibody design, the iPhone 8 duo have metal and glass combination chassis. JerryRigEverything has carried out couple of tests on the iPhone 8 to evaluate its durability.

iPhone 8 Durability Test

According to Apple, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have the most durable glass on a smartphone. During the scratch test, the iPhone 8’s screen developed deeper grooves on level 7 of Mohs Hardness Scale. This shows that the durability of the iPhone 8’s frontal glass is on par with other flagships like Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7. However, it is recommended to use a screen guard to protect the front glass from micro-abrasions.

The Home button that houses the Touch ID sensor and the 7-megapixel selfie camera are placed under the front glass. Hence, they are unlikely to get scratched easily. The rear glass is also scratch-resistant. Since the Apple logo and iPhone text are placed under the rear glass, they won’t wear away with use.

The dual-tone LED flash sits under the rear glass and there is a metallic covering to protect the microphone that sits next to camera flash. When a razor that has a scratch level of 5 on Mohs scale is used on the sapphire glass of the rear camera, there are no scratches. This shows that the durability of the camera lens is same as regular glass. Sapphire glass usually develop scratches on level 8 or 9 of Mohs scale. However, the sapphire glass of the rear camera developed visible marks at level 6 and level 7 and deeper grooves at level 8.

It appears that the Cupertino company is using its proprietary version of sapphire, claims Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything. According to Zack, Apple has used aluminum oxide which is one of the ingredients of sapphire, for the camera lens. Mohs Hardness Scale and an electron microscope show that Apple has used a lower grade material of sapphire glass to protect the camera lens. Sapphire in its purest form can be found on premium watches from Tissot and on the entire display of the HTC U Ultra sapphire edition.

There is a metal ring surrounding the camera lens. However, the lens protrudes out farther than the metal ring which means it can get scratched in due course of time if the phone is placed on its on its back on a flat surface. The sides of the iPhone 8 along with buttons are made of metal.

When the screen is treated with extreme heat for 10 seconds, the affected area goes black. However, once the affected pixels cool down, the screen becomes normal. The bend test of the iPhone 8 shows that it does not flex even with lot of pressure. At the end of the video, Zack says that the iPhone 8 has a thin strip of plastic between the rear glass and metallic frame which protects the glass during drops. Apple has also used a plastic cushion around the glass to protect that display of iPhone 8.

iPhone 8 Teardown

The above video is an iPhone 8 teardown video from IFixit. It reveals that replacing the display and battery of the smartphone is not difficult. iFixit has awarded a repairability score of 6 out of 10 to the iPhone 8 which means it is fairly easy to repair it.

A recent report had revealed that the sales of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus may suffer in fiscal Q4. The probable reason behind it is that before buying an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus, customers may want to wait for the market release of the premium iPhone X that will happen on Nov. 3. It means that there will be stupendous demand for the iPhone X that sports an edge-to-edge display and other topnotch features. Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known analyst with KGI Securities claims that the Cupertino company will not be able to meet the demand of the iPhone X before the first half of next year.

According to Kuo, Face ID, full-screen design and AR support of the iPhone X will be main features that will drive the sales of iPhone X. Previously, he had speculated that Apple would be shipping 50 million units of the iPhone X in this year. His revised prediction for this year states that only 40 million iPhone X units will be shipped. It seems that buying an iPhone X will be very difficult during the upcoming holiday season.

However, the Cupertino company is expected to increase the shipments of the smartphone in 2018. The analyst added that the company may ship 90 million units of the iPhone X in the coming year.

Kuo is of the view that the Face ID system that includes proprietary structured light technology will provide the iPhone X users with consistent and acceptable security. The new Face ID feature that replaces the Touch ID biometric recognition feature on the iPhone X can not only be used for unlocking it but also for authenticating Apple Pay transactions.

He further stated that the iPhone X’s display offers the highest screen-to-body ratio. Hence, the iPhone X is the most impressive smartphone with edge-to-edge display available in the market. The iPhone X users are also expected to be impressed with Animoji (animated emoji). Animoji uses the Face ID hardware to let cartoon characters to match the facial expression and speech of the user. Also, the ARKit as well as the sensors available on the smartphone will provide users with the best AR experience that will not be easy for the rivals to replicate

The bezel-less OLED screen and advanced front-facing camera system are reportedly hampering the production of the iPhone X. Kuo had predicted in the previous week that Apple will be producing less than 10,000 units of iPhone X per day.

The iPhone 8 is listed as the Apple A1863. It has a 4.7-inch 1334 x 750 display. There is 2GB of RAM on board and the Apple A11 Bionic is clocked at 2.4GHz. Storage variants are listed as 64GB, 128GB and 256GB which is weird considering the fact that Apple says it will only come in 64GB and 256GB models.

The rear camera is a 12MP sensor and there is an 8MP sensor in front. The most interesting info is the battery capacity which is 1821mAh. That is a drop from the iPhone 7’s 1960mAh.

iPhone 8 Plus

The iPhone 8 Plus has model number A1864. The 5.5-inch display has a 1080 x 1920 resolution. It packs 3GB of RAM and the processor is clocked the same as that of the iPhone 8.

The iPhone 8 Plus however has two variants – a 64GB model and a 256GB model. Camera is the same as that of its sibling, except that it gets an extra 12MP telephoto lens on the back.

The battery capacity of the iPhone 8 Plus is listed as 2675mAh. It is also a downgrade from the 2900mAh battery in the iPhone 7 Plus.

Since these iPhones will be hitting the market at different times, Daneil Gleason, a senior analyst at Ovum has claimed that the sales of iPhone 8 duo may suffer in fiscal Q4 that ends in September

In an interview with CNBC, Gleason said that there are two kinds of iPhone buyers. Smartphone buyers will be waiting to see the iPhone X before deciding on buying iPhone 8 or 8 Plus. Gleason is of the view that this will affect the iPhone sales in Q4 this year.

Apple’s September launch event for new iPhones are known for generating impressive sales from late Q3 and stronger numbers in Q4. However, the arrival of the premium iPhone X in November will disturb the sales of iPhone 8 duo that will go on sale in the next week. Hence, the Cupertino company is likely to report a lower sales number in fiscal Q4 in which it usually generates good revenue.

Since Apple will be releasing the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in the market on Sept. 22, it will have only 8 days to report its sales of fiscal Q4. Usually, Apple is known for selling 10 to 12 million iPhone units in the short period of sales in the fiscal fourth quarter. With smartphone buyers waiting for the release of iPhone X, it is likely that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus may record half the sales than it usually achieves in the remaining days of fiscal Q4.

The other thing that is likely to negatively impact the sales of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is that Apple may release iPhone 8s and 8s Plus with OLED screens. This may probably compel buyers to not to purchase the iPhone 8 duo but waiting for the arrival of upgraded iPhones next year, claims Abhey Lamba who is the managing director of America research at Mizuho.

In fiscal Q1 2018, Apple had met with $78.4 billion iPhones sales. However, analysts feel that during the fiscal Q1 that ends in December, Apple may record a higher sale of $86.8 billion after a lower sale in fiscal Q4 2017.

Apple has finally unveiled its much anticipated tenth anniversary smartphone, the iPhone X (pronounced ten) alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. As the rumor mill had predicted, the iPhone X comes with a full screen display with a u-shaped notch to house all the necessary sensors. Here is all that you need to know on its specs, features and pricing.

Design and Display

A decade ago, Apple introduced its first iPhone that came with a bigger screen and plenty of exciting features that were not found on competitor phones. The design of the first iPhone inspired other smartphone OEMs to launch big screen phones. The iPhone X with its refreshed design is expected to inspire rival brands to launch similar phones in the near future.

The iPhone X has a glass and metal combination body that was first seen on iPhone 4 from 2010. The glass is reinforced with internal and copper structure which makes it the strongest glass ever used on a smartphone. The handset measures 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm and its weight is 174 grams. With IP68 certification, the iPhone X’s body is resistant to dust and water. It comes in two colors like Silver and Space Gray.

The display is the USP of the iPhone X as it features a 5.8-inch OLED screen that supports a resolution of 1,125 x 2,436 pixels with a pixel density of 458 ppi. The screen of the iPhone X is called Super Retina Display by Apple.

It offers a screen-to-body ratio of 81.23 percent and has super-slim bezels around the screen. The topside of the screen has a notch that houses the selfie camera and Face ID sensor. The True Tone display can automatically adjust the screen’s color by scanning the ambient conditions. It also supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10 and 3D Touch.

Performance, Software and Face ID

The Apple A11 Bionic six-core chipset that is 25 percent faster and 70 percent power efficient than the Apple A10 Fusion powers the iPhone X. It also features an in-house graphics from Apple that offers 30 percent better performance than the one Apple had used previously. The improved stereo speaker on the iPhone X is 25 percent louder than the iPhone 7 duo. The iPhone X also carries support for Bluetooth 5.0.

The exact capacity of the iPhone X’s battery was not revealed at its launch event. However, Apple claims that it can last 2 hours more than the iPhone 7. The presence of the glass body allows the iPhone X to support Qi wireless charging. The quick charging feature that has been introduced on the iPhone X can gain 50 percent battery by charging it for 30 minutes.

The iOS 11 will come preinstalled on the iPhone X. It brings the new tap to wake feature. Swiping upwards allows users to unlock the iPhone X and swiping up and hold will show the multitasking UI. Swiping up and throwing gesture brings user to home screen. The Control Center is moved to the top on iPhone X.

Touch ID sensor has been replaced by the new Face ID feature. Enabled with a projector that creates 30,000 dots on the face of the user and a flood illuminator that allows the feature to function even in the dark, the Face ID feature can scan the face of the user and unlock the iPhone X. It can be also used for authenticating payments through Apple Pay.

The face scanning sensors on the iPhone X brings a AR new feature called Animoji (animated emoji) that can be used on iMessage. It allows the cartoon characters can match the facial expressions and voice of the user.

Cameras

The iPhone X has a 7-megapixel f/2.2 aperture TrueDepth camera that supports full HD videos at 30 fps and HD videos at 240 fps. It is coupled with Portrait mode that allows user to snap impressive bokeh effect shots with real-time lighting effects.

The dual cameras that reside on the back panel of the iPhone X includes a 12-megapixel f/1.8 wide-angle sensor and a 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens with twofold optical zoom. The dual cameras are equipped with dual OIS and quad-LED flash. It can shoot 4K videos at 60 fps and slow-motion videos of 1080 pixels at 240 fps. Portrait Mode is accompanied with real-time lighting effects and the Stage Light feature separates the subject from the background.

iPhone X Storage Variants, Price and Availability

The iPhone comes in two storage options like 64 GB and 256 GB. Both are respectively priced at $999 and $1,149. The iPhone X pre-orders will begin on Oct. 23 in the U.S. and it will start shipping from Nov. 3.

In the U.S., the 64 GB iPhone X can be purchased outright for $999 or with monthly installments of 49.91 through AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint. The 256 GB iPhone X can be bought at its full retail price of $1,149 or with monthly payments of $56.16 through aforementioned carriers.

Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were upgraded today. Instead of the usual tradition of adding “s” to their names, Apple settled for new names – the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Glass it up! Both phones look like their predecessors but the major change on the outside is the shift from metal to glass. This is not new to iPhones but a return to its former design. The fact that it is glass means that fingerprint smudges will be visible most especially on the space gray compared to the gold and silver variants.

The dimensions of both phones have changed slightly, though you probably won’t notice the difference. However, they now weigh more. The iPhone 8 comes in at 148g and measures 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm. The Plus variant weighs 202g and measures 158.4 x 78.1 x 7.5 mm.

A11 Bionic – The Heart of The iPhone 8

Apple is proud of its new chip. Called the A11 Bionic, it brings significant changes in performance over the A10 Fusion. The hexa-core processor features four efficiency cores that are 70% faster than the A10 Fusion; and two performance cores that are up to 25% faster.

It also features a new tri-core GPU that is 30% faster than that of the A10 Fusion. The new GPU is also designed to provide a fluid experience for new AR games and console-style 3D games.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Specs

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus feature new retina HD displays with True Tone Technology. True Tone automatically adjusts the white balance of the screen to match the light around you using the ambient sensor. This helps to reduce eyestrain. Colors are also more life-like.

The iPhone 8 packs a 4.7-inch display with a 1334 x 7500 resolution and the iPhone 8 Plus packs a bigger 5.5-inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Both phones now support wireless charging since they now have glass bodies. Apple says it will launch its AirPower mat next year which will not only charge the phones but also the Apple Watch and AirPods. You will even be able to charge all three devices simultaneously by placing them on the mat and monitor their individual charge level on the phone.

While owners wait for the mat, they can use Qi Wireless chargers found in hotels, airports and other public places. Belkin and Mophie have also made two new chargers for the iPhone 8.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are also waterproof and dust proof, thanks to their IP67 rating.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Cameras

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus both retain their camera configuration – a single rear camera on the former and dual rear cameras on the latter.

The senors have been upgraded though. The iPhone 8 has a 12MP sensor with a f/1.8 aperture and digital zoom of up to 5x. However, the iPhone 8 Plus is the one that gets all the fun.

It has a 12MP f/1.8 wide-angle lens paired with another 12MP f/2.8 telephoto lens. The sensors now perform better under low-light. They also come with an upgraded Portrait mode feature as well as a new feature called Portrait Lighting.

Portrait Lighting works in combination with the A11 Bionic and the new ISP. It uses face detection and depth maps to capture portrait images with professional studio lighting effects. Portrait mode is still in beta.

The iPhone 8 camera can record 4K videos at up to 60fps, 1080p videos at 60 fps and slo-mo videos at 1080p at up to 240f fps.

The front camera on both devices is a 7MP f/2.2 sensor with retina flash for selfies and Facetiming.

The iPhone 8 also takes advantage of the new AR capabilities. Apple demoed a new tabletop AR battle game. Move the phone around and you see different areas of the game. Move away from the table and the sound from the game starts to fade. Move towards it and the reverse happens.

You can also whip out your phone and load the MLB At Bat app at a game. Point the camera towards the players on the field and details of the player will show up on your screen.

 iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Price and Availability

The new iPhones will be available only in 64GB and 256Gb variants. The 64GB iPhone 8 will sell for $699 and the 256GB model will go for $849. The 64GB iPhone 8 Plus will be priced at $799 while the 256GB model will retail for $949. Pre-orders will begin this Friday, September 15 and it will be available on September 22.

In order to encourage iPhone users to use the latest iPhones, Apple had introduced an iPhone Upgrade Program in 2015 by trading in their old handset. On Tuesday, the company will be launching the 2017 iPhones. A new service of trading old iPhones by mail has been spotted in the iPhone Upgrade Program.

Apple has provided only one way to trade outdated iPhone for a new one by visiting an Apple Store. Two years after introducing the iPhone Upgrade Program, Apple is now offering a more convenient option of trading iPhones by mail. The new option is now listed in the iPhone Upgrade Program and it was first spotted by a forum member of Mac Rumors. It appears that the service is currently available only in the U.S.

In order trade in by mail, users need to ask Apple to provide them with a “trade-in kit” in which users can place their old iPhones and send it to the company by mail. As of this writing, there is no information available on the contents on the trade-in kit.

The description of the new trading option states that once a new iPhone is shipped to the user, Apple will provide users with a trade-in kit. According to Apple Insider, the new way of trading iPhones may have existed on the Apple’s site at least since July or earlier, but the option was unavailable before the launch of iPhone 7.

Because of in-store trade-in requirements, many users who opted for iPhone Upgrade Program in the previous year had to reserve a new iPhone from a local Apple store and they were provided with limited stock of iPhones to choose from. Since the many customers were annoyed because of it, Apple may have introduced another option of trading iPhone through mail.

The livestream of the event can be viewed through the Safari browser by accessing this link on any of the iOS devices running on iOS 7. On Mac devices, users need to have Safari 6.0.5 and OS X 10.8.5 to view the event. On Windows PCs running on Windows 10, it can be viewed through Microsoft Edge web browser.

How Many iPhones Will Apple Unveil?

Previous reports had claimed that the 2017 iPhones would be called iPhone 8, iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus. However, by scouring through the code of iOS 11, it has been found that the next-generation iPhones would be probably called iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone 8 duo is expected to succeed the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus. However, the iPhone X will arrive as the much-hyped tenth anniversary iPhone.

The iPhone X’s design will be very unique compared to all the predecessor iPhones as it will be housing a full-screen display with a small notch at the top bezel to house some sensors. It is expected to feature an all-glass body with stainless steel frame. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are also expected to feature the same all-glass and stainless steel frame design, but the phones will be sporting regular screens like their predecessors.

The iPhone X will be the first OLED screen enabled smartphone from Apple. It is expected to feature a 5.8-inch OLED screen supplied by Samsung Display. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are pegged to respectively house a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch LCD screens supplied by LG Display.

The Apple A11 chipset and iOS 11 operating system will be powering the new iPhones. Rumors have it that the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus would be featuring 3 GB of RAM whereas the smaller iPhone 8 would be featuring 2 GB of RAM. The iPhone 8 duo will arrive with Touch ID sensor, but Apple will be replacing the feature with a new facing scanning feature called Face ID. Since the three new iPhones will be sporting glass chassis, they are expected to carry support wireless charging.

The iPhone X is speculated to arrive in multiple storage choices such as 64 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB that are rumored to cost around $999, $1,099 and $1099 respectively. It is rumored to be a limited edition phone as the company is expected to sell only 2 to 4 million units this year. It is expected to arrive in color variants like black, white and gold and all these models will black colored front panel.

The pre-orders of the 2017 iPhones are expected to begin on Sept. 15. The shipments of the pre-ordered units as well as in-store availability is speculated to begin on Sept. 22.

LTE Apple Watch 3 and 4K Apple TV

Apple is expected to unveil Apple Watch 3 with LTE support at tomorrow’s launch event. The Apple Watch 3 is rumored to support LTE connectivity through an embedded SIM that would allow users to access VOIP services without pairing with an iPhone or iPad. However, it may not function as a standalone that would let users to make phone calls through it.

As far as Apple TV is concerned, it expected to carry native support for 4K resolution. It is tipped to support livestreaming even at slow internet speeds of 15 Mbps. Other rumored features include HDR 10 and Dolby Vision support.

Apple is heavily to introduce a new facial recognition feature dubbed as Face ID on the iPhone X. Well-known analyst Ming Chi-Kuo has revealed how Apple will be using the Face ID technology on the iPhone X.

According to Kuo, the Face ID feature will be relying on four components like a light transmitter, a light receiver, a frontal camera and a proximity sensor. All the sensors that are required for the Face ID feature to function would be present in the u-shaped top bezel of the iPhone X.

The light transmitter and receiver will collect depth information that will be merged with the photos snapped by the frontal camera to get 2D images. A 3D image which is then created by using software algorithms is then used for facial recognition. The presence of proximity sensor will allow the users to know through a prompt whether their face is too far or close from the iPhone X to create the 3D image. The analyst has claimed the special edition iPhone would be possibly available in three colors like black, white and gold. All these models are expected to sport a black colored front mainly to conceal the sensors present in the top bezel of the phone. Apple had introduced ambient light sensor for its True Tone display in 2016. The ambient light sensors will automatically change the color of the screen depending on the temperature. The analyst is of the view that it will help in the better performance of the new facial recognition feature.

The Apple iPhone Edition (aka iPhone Pro or iPhone X) is speculated as the upcoming OLED panel enabled smartphone that will be arriving coming with some advanced specs. There have been mixed rumors on the launch and availability of the smartphone. A recent report has revealed that the specifications of the alleged iPhone Edition have not been finalized yet.

An anonymous representative from Apple’s local supplier has revealed that the shipments of the 2017 iPhones began from late August. He added that its firm has not received exact details on the supply volume as Apple is still finalizing on the specifications of the forthcoming iPhone that will feature an OLED panel.

Apple has already sent out its official invitation to the media on the upcoming launch event that will be held on Sept. 12. However, since most of the parts suppliers have begun with the shipments recently, the rumor mill is speculating that the OLED iPhone’s release would be delayed to November.

Another unnamed source has said that even if Apple debuts the OLED iPhone in the next week, it may be made available in very limited quantity. Reports have revealed that the supply chain start shipping the LCD panels from June so that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus could become available in the market as soon as their unveiled.

Samsung Display is the sole supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone Edtion. LG Display is providing LCD panels for the rumored iPhone 8 and 8 Plus smartphones. The same source that has been mentioned has claimed that some of the partner of Apple are of the view that the iPhone revenue will almost grow twofold this year. The upcoming launch event could be the very first time for Apple to debut three iPhones at the same time. A previous report has stated the upcoming iPhones may turn Apple into a trillion-dollar company.

Rumor have it that the 2017 iPhones would be available on pre-orders on Sept. 15. And the new iPhones would be available at the stores by Sept. 22. According to Tony Sacconaghi, an analyst with Bernstein, if the arrival of iPhone X gets delayed by three weeks, buyers may switch to a smartphone from a different manufacturer.

Latest reports say that what we have called the iPhone 8 is actually the iPhone Edition. The iPhone 8 moniker will go to the device formerly known as the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7 Plus will launch as the iPhone 8 Plus.

The news comes from 9to5Mac Editorial Director Seth Weintraub, who said he spoke to two case vendors at the on-going IFA in Berlin. The case vendors are said to be major brands with one selling items on the Apple store and the other on 9to5Toys.

One of them says it has even updated its internal stock keeping units (SKUs) based on the info from those who have seen the retail boxes in Shenzhen. Another info revealed is that the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will have lightning ports but future models will inevitably switch to USB-C.

Apple has scheduled September 12 as the release date for its new devices. The launch will take place at the new Steve Jobs Theater situated within the new Apple Campus.

Back in 2015 when Apple released the iPhone 6s with 2GB of RAM, there were already Android phones with double that RAM. The ASUS Zenfone 2 and OnePlus 2 are best examples. The iPhone 7 Plus released last year is the only 3GB RAM iPhone and there are tens of Android phones with double that already.

There are speculations that one of the iPhones released this year will have 4GB of RAM but analysts at TrendForce think otherwise. They believe the increase in prices of LPDDR4 RAM is affecting the growth in smartphone RAM this year.

They say if Apple plans to maintain its annual shipment target of about 200 million,then 3GB of RAM should suffice for the 5.8-inch iPhone with an AMOLED display and the 5.5-inch version with an LCD display. The 4.7-inch LCD version will also make do with 2GB RAM.

It appears the guys at TrendForce knows something we don’t since they are mentioning that we are still getting three iPhones (only one with OLED) instead of the Foxconn source that says there will be only two iPhones (iPhone 8 an iPhone 8 Plus) with both sporting OLED displays. The source says Foxconn has received orders for two iPhones only.

TrendForcce also says that next year will see Apple launch an iPhone with 4GB of RAM. 2015’s 12.9-inch iPad Pro is the only iOS device that ships with 4GB of RAM at the moment.

After releasing iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 with almost same design, Apple is expected to launch iPhone 8 with overhaul changes to its design. Handy Abovergleich, a Dutch company has reveal concept model of iPhone 8 based on all the rumors surrounding it.

The iPhone 8 concept model features an AMOLED display. There is an AMOLED status bar at the top that shows all the notifications and helps in providing ample screen space to the users.

The bottom features a Touch ID fingerprint sensor enabled virtual haptic Home button. There are two virtual shortcut keys on the left and right side of the Home button. The iris scanner is also present on the device for added security. It can seamlessly scan iris even when the user is wearing contact lenses, spectacles and sunglasses.

The iPhone 8 concept model sports dual camera sensors on its back panel. The 16-megapixel camera is equipped with an f/1.7 aperture that can shoot stunning photos in dim lighting conditions. It carries support 4K resolution video shooting. The images show that the iPhone 8 will be the first Apple iPhone to feature a USB Type-C port.

The concept images also reveal that the iPhone 8 will also get the much-awaited wireless charging feature. The iPhone 8 concept phone is powered by Apple A11 Fusion chipset.

According to Handy Abovergleich, the iPhone 8 would be arriving in three models, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 Pro. These devices will be available in six finishes such as glossy white, space black, stainless steel gold, silver, jet black and rose gold.

The iPhone 8 Pro is expected to arrive with support for Apple Pencil stylus. The pressure-sensitive stylus will allow users to do everything that can be done through a conventional pencil.

As far as design is concerned, the iPhone 8 concept model features ultra-thin bezels and rounded edges. As iPhone 8 rumors have stated, it features a glass-on-glass design available on iPhone 4 and 4S and its frame is made up of stainless steel.

Next year is a special year for Apple and its acclaimed iPhones because it will clock ten years since Apple started the iPhone production. That being so, the company had all along been tipped as planning a bigger surprise package for next year. Before now, rumors had it that the Cupertino company is working on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models. However, latest rumor from Japan hints at two more additional  iPhone models for next year.

According to latest report in the Japanese media, Apple is preparing four iPhones for 2017. Thus, in addition to the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, the company is said to be working on two more models named, iPhone 7S and 7S Plus.  The iPhone 7S and 7S Plus are both said to see slight upgrades from Apple’s present lineup, having the same shape as well as using the same aluminum body. The specifications might be upgraded in some aspect, like using the Apple A11 processor.

In addition, there is also likely to be a new red color variant in order to attract more users. The red variant will be in addition to the previous color variants like space gray, deep black, gold, rose gold and silver. The report also hints that Apple might use OLED display on only one out of the four models, which is likely the iPhone 8 Plus. The other three models would retain the LCD display Apple customarily uses, the report says.

It is also reported that the new iPhone will likely adopt double glass and metal frame design just like the iPhone 4 engraved version. The next gen Apple iPhones are also rumored to come with wireless charging support.

Rumours for the next iPhone started surfacing even before the iPhone 7 was officially released. Now that there’s nothing in its way, we should expect more details of Apple’s next phone (if there is no SE 2nd Gen or so), like this one from Japanese media, Nikkei, which is about the iPhone 8 Plus.

A few days ago it was revealed that there will be 3 variants of the iPhone 8:  a 4.7” variant, another with a 5” display and the third one will have a 5.5” screen size. The 5.5” version is assumed to be the iPhone 8 Plus, and Nikkei says it will feature a curved OLED display which will be manufactured in the US.

This is a first for Apple if it turns out to be true but it is not surprising either, seeing as next year will be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, we expect something different. We already know what they did to mark the 25th anniversary of the first Mac laptop. But let’s hope it doesn’t share its high price tag.

The next iPhone(s) is also expected to bring back the dual-glass design from the iPhone 4, have ceramic variants, and ditch the home key completely.
