Earlier this week, Huawei announced that it will be offering a new trade in program for its old Mate series of flagship smartphones. This deal will seek help its older customers in upgrading to its latset Mate 50 series.

As per official notes, the Chinese tech giant’s 2023 trade in campaign is available in Malaysia and will offer deals with the Mate 20 Pro, Mate 30 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro. So here’s a look at their trade in values:

• Huawei Mate 20 Pro (8GB + 256GB) with a trade in value of RM 706 (roughly 183 US Dollars).
• Huawei Mate 30 Pro (8GB + 512GB) with trade in value up to RM 1644 (roughly 380 US Dollars).
• Huawei Mate 40 Pro (8GB + 512GB) with trade in value up to RM 2488 (roughly 575 US Dollars).

There are a number of authorized Huawei experience stores tat are offering this 2023 trade in deal in the region, which includes the Pavilion Bukit Jalil, IOI City Mall, The Garden, Suria KLCC, Aeon Mluri, My Town, Mid Valley City, Sunway Velocity, Sunway Pyramid, The Mines, Paradigm Mall PJ, Setia City Mall, and Bukit Tinggi. So for those interested in upgrading to a new Mate 50 series phone, you can avail additional discounts if you already own another Mate phone.

DxOMark, a known platform for benchmarking smartphone cameras have tested the Huawei Mate 20 Pro flagship phone. Before the Mate 20 Pro was benchmarked, the Huawei P20 Pro that was unveiled in March 2018 held the numero uno position on the DxOMark mobile photography benchmarking list with a score of 109. The Mate 20 Pro is now leading the rankings at DxOMark since it has rated the smartphone with a score of 109. On the second position is the Apple iPhone XS Max with a score of 105. It is followed by HTC U12+, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 that have recorded 103 score on DxOMark.

As it can be seen in the below screenshot, the 109 DxOMark by Mate 20 Pro is an average of 114 and 97 for photo and video shooting tests. In comparison, the P20 Pro scored 114 and 98 in the same tests.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro features Leica engineered triple camera module on its rear. It includes 40-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture, 20-megapixel ultrawide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and 8-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture which supports 5x optical zoom and OIS. All the three sensors support PDAD and laser autofocus. Sitting on the frontside of the Mate 20 Pro is a 24-megapixel selfie camera.

The Mate 20 Pro does well in departments exposure, color reproduction, autofocus and noise reduction while capturing photos and videos. The benchmarking platform praised the zoom capabilities of the Mate 20 Pro. The smartphone lost some points when it occasionally captured photos with slight or pink tint in brightly-lit outdoor and indoor conditions. It also lost some fine details of the face in bokeh shots. While recording videos, panning the camera resulted in loss of details on some fine textures. The videos that were recorded indoors appeared shaky.

The P-series of flagship phones are known for delivering topnotch photography experience. Rumors have it that the Huawei P30 Pro launching in March this year will be equipped with four cameras that may deliver 10x optical zoom.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Huawei P20 Pro are two true flagship smartphones from the Chinese company, which has already dethroned Apple from the second position in the worldwide smartphone shipments. Both the phones come with a premium design and best-in-class camera experience.

While the phone comes with support for HDR and Full HD content, it was not able to stream HD videos from online streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube among others as both the phones lacked support for Widevine L1 certification.

However, the Chinese company has now released an update for the Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro that brings support for Widevine L1 certifications, enabling the smartphones to stream HD videos as well as play HDR content.

The latest software update for the Huawei P20 Pro is EMUI 9,0 which is based on Android 9 Pie operating system. It enables HD as well as HDR streaming, which then enables cinematic like visuals on a hand-held device. Since both the smartphones — Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro — come with an OLED display with HDR10 compatibility, this will further increase the multimedia consumption experience on the phone.

The new update for the smartphones also brings gesture-based navigation which is very useful in a full-screen smartphone; second-generation GPU Turbo technology that boosts the phone’s performance; and redesigned settings menu among other things.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro comes with a 6.39-inch QHD+ display while the Huawei P20 Pro boasts a 6.1-inch Full HD+ display. Under the hood, the Mate 20 Pro is powered by Kirin 980 while the P20 Pro is powered by its predecessor Kirin 970 and both phones support up to 8GB of RAM.

Both the smartphones are focused on offering an enhanced and unique camera experience and comes equipped with a triple-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 40MP + 20MP + 8MP sensors. On the front side, both devices feature a 24MP snapper.

While the Huawei Mate 20 Pro was running Android Pie-based EMUI 9 out-of-the-box, the P20 Pro comes pre-installed with Android Oreo-based EMUI 9. With this new update, it has now been updated to EMUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie.

Huawei will certainly be basking in the glory that the P20 Pro’s camera went unbeaten on DXOMark all through last year. This is despite the release of Apple’s 2018 flagship models. Surprisingly, Apple phones which are known to have some of the best smartphone cameras couldn’t equal the score of the P20 Pro. Interestingly, the Mate 20 Pro DXOMark benchmark results were not released up till this moment. Huawei had hinted last year that it shelved announcing the score because it was too high. However, DXO Mark has revealed that the Mate 20 Pro is currently being tested and the score, as well as those of other new models, will be released soon.

This was revealed on Tweeter in a couple of responses to inquiries by fans who are desirous to know when Mate 20 Pro’s camera review will be published. One of the responses hinted that DXOMark’s “team is currently working to test and publish the latest mobiles, including the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. New articles will be published very soon.” It is possible the company had to conduct the camera tests repeatedly to ensure the scores are authentic. We don’t expect it to be less than the P20 Pro’s.

As a reminder, Huawei’s flagship P20 Pro still stands as DXOMark’s highest-rated smartphone with an overall score of 109. This is followed by Apple’s latest flagship iPhone XS Max with 105 points. Each month, AnTuTu benchmarking platform releases the list of top 10 best performing Android phones. In November 2018, the top 10 best performance Android smartphones was dominated by Kirin 980 chipset powered Huawei and Honor phones. The other phones that made it to the list were fueled by Snapdragon 845. AnTuTu’s latest lists for December 2018 reveals has the Snapdragon 845 powered Nubia Red Magic Mars smartphone leading pack which is followed by Kirin 980 driven smartphones.

All the phones mentioned in the list below were benchmarked using AnTuTu version 7 between Dec. 1 and Dec. 31, 2018. The Nubia Red Magic Mars phone that is placed on the number one position recorded an average benchmarking score of 320,464. The next five phones in the list are all powered by Kirin 980 chipset. The Mate 20 Honor V20, Mate 20 X, Mate 20 Pro and Honor Magic 2 have respectively scored 309,310, 303,525, 304,096, 302,872 and 300,978 points

The Xiaomi Black Shark Helo phone is on the seventh position with a score of 300,211. On eighth is OnePlus 6T with 296,278 score. The original Xiaomi Black Shark gaming phone and Nubia X have made it to the top ten list of best performance Android phones by respectively scoring 294,193 and 294,032 points.

In the coming months, multiple phones with Snapdragon 855 are expected to go official It remains to be seen whether it will be the Samsung Galaxy S10 or Sony Xperia XZ4 or any other phone will be the first Snapdragon 855 powered smartphone.

An unofficial listing of the Xperia XZ4 that was spotted earlier today revealed that it had scored over 395k points. Hence, it appears that Snapdragon 855 may start leading AnTuTu’s list of best performance Android phones by the end of first quarter of this year. Huawei is also rumored to be prepping up Kirin 985 chipset to power the Huawei P30 series that is expected to go official by the end of March. Hopefully, it could be a good rival for the Snapdragon 855 mobile platform.

After announcing the Mate 20 Pro smartphone at a launch event in London in October, the company started selling the smartphone in its home market. Last week, the company revealed that its smartphone shipments for the year 2018 exceeded 200 million units, which includes 5 million units of Mate 20 series which was launched a couple of months ago.

Currently, the smartphone is available for purchase in China but all the color options and variants are listed as ‘Sold Out.’ It is currently available in Bright Black, Sapphire Blue, Cherry Pink, Emerald Green, and Auror colors.

Now, two upcoming color variants of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro for the Chinese market has been leaked online. As per the reports, the phone will also be offered in Fragrant Red and Comet Blue color variants. However, the company has not officially revealed the launch date yet.

As for the specifications, the Mate 20 Pro features a notched 6.39-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with 3120 x 1440 pixels screen resolution. Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 chipset, which is manufactured using the 7nm FinFET technology. It comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage with support for expandable storage up to 256GB.

For photography, it comes with Leica co-engineered triple camera resides on the backside of the phone. It includes a f/1.8 aperture 40-megapixel angles, a f/2.2 aperture 20-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens and a f/2.4 aperture and OIS enabled 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

On the front side, the handset features a 24-megapixel RGB selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. Housed inside the larger notch on top of the display, the camera sensors are paired with other sensors that are responsible for 3D face unlock feature.

The company says that the phone’s back is made using a Hyper Optical Pattern which prevents fingerprints. Further, the phone comes with an IP68 rating, making it water and dust resistant. As for the fingerprint sensor, Huawei has adopted the latest technology and is offering in-display fingerprint scanner.

Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, dual-band Bluetooth v5.0, Bluetooth v5.0 LE with aptX, GPS/ A-GPS, GLONASS, and a USB Type-C port. It also comes with a dual speaker configuration, offering an immersive sound experience. It runs Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.0 and is powered by a 4,200mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge fast charging technology.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is one of the smartphones with the best camera you can purchase right now. The phone packs some really nice camera features but there is one overlooked feature which is the Underwater Camera mode. The guys at Android Authority have given it a spin and released a review.

The underwater mode is designed to allow you to take photos under the water. Even though the phone has an IP68 rating, the first thing you see when you switch to the mode is a reminder that tells you to switch to a Huawei waterproof phone case (pictured above). It also warns the user to stick to operating instructions as damages to the phone caused by misuse will not be covered by warranty.

Unfortunately, the Huawei waterproof phone case is only available in China. Thus the test was done with a generic waterproof phone case. In underwater mode, the volume buttons are the controls you need. Volume up is for taking photos (long press for burst photos) and volume down is for recording videos. The volume up button also serves as the pause button while recording while pressing the volume down ends recording.

So where does the Mate 20 Pro need improvement? First, camera modes are limited. The selfie camera doesn’t work and you can’t use wide-angle or telephoto in this mode which is a bummer just in case you wanted to take that dope shot while snorkeling.

Another place where the underwater mode falls short is in how to exit the mode. Huawei says you should press and hold a certain area below the viewfinder. Seeing as you shouldn’t even need to touch the screen in that mode, setting the exit button as a touch gesture seems stupid.

According to the reviewer, less than a minute after he began swimming, the phone had exited underwater mode and was now in the settings menu. Apparently, water interfered with the display and did that. Other phone manufacturers that have phones with an underwater mode such as Hisense and CAT use a hardware button or a series of gestures to exit the mode.

Huawei needs to iron out these issues with the underwater mode for it to be really useful. Nevertheless, the Mate 20 Pro is a great device but not a great camera phone under water. Thankfully, virtually all these issues can be fixed via a software update.

He Gang who is the President of Huawei’s smartphone division wants to thank everyone for their support and love.  Hence, in order to celebrate the achievement of its new milestone, the Chinese manufacturer has announced commemorative editions of Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Huawei Nova 4. Through his official Weibo account, He Gang has shared a poster that reveals the design of these phones.

The Emerald colored Huawei Mate 20 Pro Commemorative Edition features 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage whereas the Secret Red colored Huawei Nova 4 Commemorative Edition has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The sales of these devices will begin on Jan. 1 at 10:08 AM (local time) in China. There is no information available on the price tags of these special edition models. These phone feature a log with two stars and “200 Million Huawei Mobile 2018” text on the rear.

Reports reveal that since the launch of Huawei P20 series, the global shipments of the company have exceeded 16 million units. Female users accounted nearly half of the number. The shipments of Huawei Mate 20 series that was announced in October has already exceeded 5 million units. Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is leading the Chinese smartphone market.

In 2010, the Huawei had shipped 3 million units. In 2017, it shipped 153 million units. Earlier this year, a research report by Canalys confirmed that Huawei had surpassed Apple in Q2 2018 to become the world’s second largest smartphone vendor.  Currently, Huawei holds a global market share of 14.6 percent. More than 500 million people in more than 170 countries across the globe are using Huawei phones.

Huawei’s Consumer Business CEO Yu Richard has confirmed that the company has set a shipment target of 20 million units for the Huawei Mate 20 series. In 2019, it aims to increase overall shipments to 250 million units. By 2020, it will strive to ship 300 million units.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is one of the top smartphones released this year. It has triple rear cameras that are pretty impressive, a powerful processor, and a large battery capacity. A durability test has now revealed the phone is also scratch proof. At least the back is.

JerryRigEverything, the popular YouTube channel known for putting phones through different cringe-worthy tests to check their durability is the source of the new info.

The Mate 20 Pro is covered in Glass on both sides but while the front is Gorilla Glass we are not sure if the back is. The front glass scratches but the glass back…….not at all and there is a reason for that.

Most phones with a glass back are fingerprint magnets and to avoid that, Huawei decided to make the glass on the back of the Mate 20 Pro textured instead of plain smooth. So you have multiple lines with grooves running across the back.

The textured glass not only prevents the phone from looking like a complete mess from the oil and sweat from your palms, but it also protects the phone from scratches. In the durability test video, Zack tried multiple times to scratch it and not a single scratch appeared.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro doesn’t do well in the bend test and that is as a result of its curved display. So you may want to take great care to avoid sitting on it. However, you shouldn’t worry if your toddler decides to drag the back of the phone across the floor.

The Mate 20 Pro has a 6.39-inch 1440 x 3120 screen with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Kirin 980 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

It’s official. Huawei has announced that the flagship Mate 20 Pro will officially go on sale in India on November 27. This goes to confirm an earlier report by IANS which tipped the device to go on sale on November 27. This was disclosed in a tweet by Huawei India.

The tweet did not reveal the price tag the model would adopt or where it would be sold. However, it is likely Huawei will partner with Amazon India for the launch of the Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 RS Porsche Design . There is no official confirmation if the Mate 20 will be making an entry alongside the duo. Amazon is already promoting the modules and from the promptional poster, Huawei will offer the Mate 20 Pro in a bundle with the Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless Noise-Cancelling headphones.

The Mate 20 Pro is already on sale in China and Europe and the response has been massive, spurred by the sterling features the device packs. As a reminder, the Mate 20 Pro sports a 6.39-inch AMOLED display and is powered by a 7nm Kirin 980 chipset,. The device also packs a 4,200mAh battery with insanely fast 40W wired charging and 15W wireless charging (it can also reverse-charge other devices). Other features include face scanning, under the display fingerprint and three cameras – a “regular” 40MP unit, an ultra wide 20MP and an 8MP telephoto.

Huawei is reportedly all set to launch its first Mate series smartphone in the Indian market. According to a report from IANS, Huawei will be launching the Huawei Mate 20 Pro in the Indian market on 27th November.

It is already known that the Mate 20 Pro will be available for purchase exclusively through Amazon in India. It seems that only the 6GB RAM model will make its way to the Indian market.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a premium smartphone that aims to take on the likes of Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Apple iPhone XS Max, and Google Pixel 3 XL among others. It features a 6.39-inch OLED notched display that offers 18.7:9 aspect ratio, Quad HD+ resolution and it is embedded with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own 7nm Kirin 980 octa-core chipset. For photography, it comes with Leica co-engineered triple camera resides on the backside of the phone. It includes a f/1.8 aperture 40-megapixel angles, a f/2.2 aperture 20-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens and a f/2.4 aperture and OIS enabled 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

On the front side, the handset features a 24-megapixel RGB selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. Housed inside the larger notch on top of the display, the camera sensors are paired with other sensors that are responsible for 3D face unlock feature.

Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, dual-band Bluetooth v5.0, Bluetooth v5.0 LE with aptX, GPS/ A-GPS, GLONASS, and a USB Type-C port. Running on Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9.0, the phone is powered by a 4,200mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge fast charging technology.

In Europe, the 6GB RAM model of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is priced at EUR 1,049 (approximately $1,195 or Rs. 85,000) and comes in Black, Midnight Blue, Emerald Green, Pink Gold, and Twilight colors.

The Mate 20 series smartphone from Huawei comes with Leica-branded lenses. Along with that, the major highlight of the camera is that the phone supports several AI-based and AR-based functions and features, aiming to provide an impressive camera performance.

Powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 chipset, which comes with two NPU chips, where one is dedicated to “vast AI computing,” while the other tackles “specific tasks.” As per the company, the setup boosts image recognition performance 120 percent.

Now, Huawei has officially launched its ‘3D Moderator’ application for the users of Mate 20 20 and Mate 20 RS Porsche Edition, which enables creating own AR interactive 3D elements, known as “AI Live Model” or “3D Live Object”.

This is possible because of the array of front-facing sensors, which includes a 24MP RGB camera sensor, a dot projector, flood illuminator, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, an IR camera. Using those sensors and some artificial intelligence-based algorithms, the device can quickly scan the toy object — such as a doll — and can also simulate the limb movements.

The company says that the object selected for scanning should be 15-25cm in length and parts of it should be at least 5cm in diameter. For animation effects, users can choose from a range of actions, including happy jumping, ballet, happy walking, cross-stepping, easy running, Chinese kung fu, among others.

The object can then move and dance in augmented reality, providing an immersive AR interactive experience. It can also be shared on social media platforms. Users can also use the software to create their own custom interaction. Similar to Google’s Playground AR app, users can also take photos with the virtual toy.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is packed with various advanced features such as triple rear cameras, 3D facial recognition, under display fingerprint reader, wireless charging and wireless reverse charging. According to Huawei, the Mate 20 Pro supports up to 15W wireless charging. However, it hasn’t mentioned anything on the charging rate of the wireless reverse charging feature on the Mate 20 Pro.

In order to enable to wireless reverse charging feature, one needs to navigate to the related listing available inside battery settings. Huawei has not provided an easy to access toggle to enable or disable reverse wireless charging. Once enabled, users need to quickly place the device that needs to be charged on the backside of the Mate 20 Pro. If the other device is not placed instantly, the feature turns off automatically in few seconds to prevent power wastage.

Android Authority has examined the wireless reverse charging technology of the Mate 20 Pro to find out its charging rate. The Google Pixel 3 can support 10W wireless charging through Made by Google certified products such as Pixel Stand wireless charger. With third-party wireless chargers, the charging rate reduces to standard 5W.

AccuBattery is an app that can be used to get a rough idea of the charging speed. The app was used by the publication to check the wireless reverser charging speed of the Mate 20 Pro when it was used for charging Google Pixel 3. It was found that the charging rate could be half of the regular 5W wireless charging speed. With 2.5W wireless reverse charging onboard, it seems that the feature is so slow that it could be practically unusable for charging other devices.

Huawei was expected to announce FlyPods wireless earbuds at the launch event of Mate 20 series. Instead, it was unveiled on the day when Honor Magic 2 was made official. It carries support for wireless charging and it can be also charging by placing it on the rear side of the Mate 20 Pro with the reverse wireless charging feature enabled on it. Being an Huawei device, Flypods may support faster wireless reverse charging, but there is no confirmation on it.

Last month, Huawei launched its flagship Mate 20-series of smartphones, which includes Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, and the premium phone Mate 20 RS Porsche Design.

Now, the Chinese company has officially announced that the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design smartphone will be available for purchase in China from 17th November, carrying a price tag of 12,999 Yuan, which roughly converts to $1,875.

While the Mate 20 Pro comes with a glass back, the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design comes with a premium leather back. There’s also a vertical strip of glass at the center that runs from the top to the bottom of the back panel. This glass strip houses the triple camera module and the Porsche Design branding.

Further, there’s no camera bump on the handset. The Mate 20 RS Porsche Design comes in two color options — Black and Red. The phone borrows most of its specifications from the Mate 20 Pro — the bigger sibling of the Mate 20.

The phone features a 6.39-inch QHD+ AMOLED notched display with 3120 x 1440 pixels screen resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 octa-core chipset with dual NPU, which is manufactured using the 7nm process.

It packs 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. In terms of optics, the phone comes with triple camera setup on the back, consisting of  40-megapixel + 20-megapixel + 8-megapixel camera module with Leica lens and dual-tone dual-LED flash — same as that of Mate 20 Pro.

On the front side, the smartphone has a 24-megapixel front-facing shooter with f/2.0 aperture for taking selfies and video calling. In case you don’t want to use the phone’s in-display fingerprint sensor, it also comes with support for 3D face unlock feature.

The Kirin 980 chipset that powers the Huawei Mate 20 series of flagship phones and the Honor Magic 2 is a smaller 7nm chipset compared to the 10nm Kirin 970 SoC. To be precise, the Kirin 980 is 30 percent smaller than its predecessor. A die shot of the new chipset has been surfaced to reveal the placement of its different components.

The HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC measures only 74.13mm2. The top-left corner of the SoC features Mali G76MP10 graphics. It promises 50 percent better performance than the predecessor Mali-G72 MP12 available on the Kirin 970. The Kirin 980 is the first SoC from HiSilicon to adopt new DynamicIQ technology by ARM which makes it possible to build chipsets with versatile designs.

The quad-core Cortex A76 CPUs arranged in two pairs are attached the DynamicIQ Shared Unit (DSU). The offer different processing speeds of up to 2.6 GHz and 1.92 GHz. Each core of both the pairs are equipped with 512KB private L2 caches.  On the either sides of the DSU is the quad-core Cortex A55 that can function at up to 1.8 GHz. The 4MB L3 cache is also attached to the DSU. The above image also shows the placement of the LPDDR4X RAM controllers. The Kirin 980 is the first SoC to feature 2,133Mhz memory.

The above image was shared by Chiprebel and the different components on it were labelled by AnandTech. What’s interesting about the layout is that the dual-core NPU unit for handling AI tasks cannot be seen. It should be present on the chip, but its position could not be identified. According to Huawei, the NPU unit of the Kirin 980 is two times faster than that of Kirin 970.

After Mate 20 Pro teardown by ZOL, now it’s time for the iFixit teardown. Huawei’s latest flagship device is available across all regions around the Globe. It was launched last month along with Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 X and a Porsche edition. It carries high-end specs including Kirin 980 SoC with AI capabilities. Yesterday, Huawei announced special waterproof case for the Mate 20 pro to extend its usability for underwater shooting. Now, in a Mate 20 Pro teardown by iFixit, we’ve got to know that the device is quite difficult to repair. There are many other details about its cameras and other features that have been revealed by iFixit teardown.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the latest device that has been torn down by iFixit. The DIY authority has found that due to excessive glue on the back and front side, it is quite challenging to repair the device.

While opening the device, iFixit found it difficult to open from the back due to excessive glue usage on either side. Though, there are chances that consumer might break their device while opening it from the back. Even, the screen repair is not as easy as it has also been glued tightly. Moreover, damaging a screen means, you have also lost its on-screen fingerprint also. Although, it is easy to replace the battery if you have managed to open the back panel of Mate 20 Pro.

On the mid-board, housed between the glass and battery carries NFC antenna, wireless charging coil, dual LED flash. The whole part is attached to the body with the help of a flex connector and eight screws. Huawei has added a relatively small main board which carries Kirin 980, 8GB RAM module, Wifi adapter and 2×2 MIMO port. Further, you can see the modules of 3D unlock hardware, triple camera and a few other things. The main board is held by 9 flex cables.

Further, its front camera sits inside the cutouts with mainboard comprising of the 24-megapixel sensor, rangefinder, proximity sensor, flood illuminator, ambient light sensor, and IR camera.

Further, Huawei has used Phillips screws rather than standard screws with a large amount of adhesive. There are more chances that user damage the smartphone while getting it repaired. The new device from Huawei has managed to get four points out of 10 in terms of repairability easiness. Though Mate 20 Pro is not alone in this league, Galaxy Note 9, LG G7 and Mate 10 Pro also scored similarly in terms of ease to repair.

There’s large 6.39 inch 2K+ curved OLED display with an aspect ratio f 19.5:9.

Huawei recently launched its Mate 20 Pro flagship smartphone in China and soon after the device went on sale, users started complaining about the issues related to the phone’s display. Many users are complaining about an issue which shows yellowish or greenish spots on the edge of the display.

It appears when the background is dark grey or in some cases when it’s whiteish. If your device is affected, you’ll see yellowish or greenish color around the display’s edges under weak lighting. What earlier seemed like a minor issue affecting a few users, has now escalated as the number of affected users keep growing.

With the number of users affected by the issue increasing, the Chinese manufacturer has finally responded. In a statement, Huawei said:

The Mate 20 Pro uses an industry-leading flexible OLED screen featuring special design curved edges for an enhanced visual experience and holding comfort. This may lead to slight discolouration when viewed from different angles. In extremely dim lighting conditions, when the screen brightness is too low, or when using dark wallpapers, these differences can be exaggerated. If the colour cast affects your normal use, take your phone to an authorized Customer Service Center for assistance.

Some reports suggest that the shift becomes more prominent over time and speculate that the issue is related to the glue that Huawei uses for the display, and hence many are calling it ‘#gluegate’. However, the company has not acknowledged this.

It seems that the company is trying to avoid taking responsibility by saying that it’s a normal color shift that appears under specific conditions. However, it’s pretty clear that the issue is much bigger than what the company is saying.

The issue doesn’t seem to be related to color shifting because not all users are affected by this. Many users have pointed out that the issue appears on the device that comes with a display panel from LG Display while the units packing BOE’s display panel are fine.

While the company mentions that those who are unhappy with the screen seek help from Huawei’s service centers, it has not specified what steps it’ll take to fix the issue or if the company will fix the issue or replace the device. In the world’s first teardown by ZOL, it is revealed that the internal fitting of all the elements is complex but is not hard to disassemble it with the right tools. There are many other surprises such as the first look at Kirin 980 working on any device’s motherboard.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the first device which combines the on-screen fingerprint with the 3D face scanning. Huawei has done outstanding work in fitting the internals of the device.

Huawei has used a positive shield on the motherboard to protect it from dust and other hazardous elements. Beneath it, Huawei has added the Kirin 980 with 8GB LPDD4RX 2133 MHz RAM. We can also see a WiFi adapter and 2×2 MIMO port.

Above we can see a 128GB UFS 2.1 internal storage module along with different ICs and power chips. Its front camera module with a sensor of 24 megapixels, infrared sensor, light sensor and other elements can be seen in the photo below.

On the rear, it carries a triple camera module of a 40-megapixel (f/1.8) primary camera and a 20-megapixel (f/2.2) secondary camera. We can see all the three camera modules with OIS+EIS.

Overall, all the components, structure and materials used are of top grade quality. ZOL has found it that device can withstand any quality test to measure its flagship’s quality.

Since the past few months, AnTuTu’s list of top 10 best performance Android phones have been led by Snapdragon 845 powered smartphones. The list for the September month was completely populated by SD845 phones. Today, the benchmarking platform has released the list of top 10 best performance Android phones for October month. The top three positions on the list have been taken over by Kirin 980 chipset powered Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X smartphones.

As it can be seen in the below image, the first position is held by Huawei Mate 20 phone that has recorded 311,840 average benchmarking score. The second position goes to Mate 20 Pro that has raked in 307,693 points. The Mate 20 X is sitting on the third position with a score of 303,112.

Another new phone that has appeared on AnTuTu’s list is the all new Xiaomi Black Shark Helo phone that has reached 301,757 mark on the benchmarking platform. The original Xiaomi Black Shark phone is sitting on the fifth position with 293,544 benchmarking score.

The Meizu 16th smartphone that was announced in August is on the sixth spot with a score of 293,554.  The seventh position goes to OnePlus 6 that has salvaged a benchmarking score of 292,371. The ASUS ROG Phone (291,701) Smartisan R1 (291,102) and Nubia Z18 (290,332) are the remaining phones that are present on the list of top 10 best performance Android smartphones for October.

AnTuTu has stated that the aforementioned points for each smartphone are not the highest benchmarking score, but an average of their scores. Smartphones such as Xiaomi Mi MIX 3, OnePlus 6T and Honor Magic 2 that were announced at the end of the previous month haven’t made it the October list by AnTuTu. These phones are expected to rank well in AnTuTu’s top 10 best performance Android smartphones list in November that will be released in the coming. As far as October’s benchmarking scores are concentered, the new list is a clear evidence that the Kirin 980 powered phones have outperformed SD845 driven smartphones.

Huawei recently launched its flagship Mate 20 series of smartphones. The series includes Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, and Mate 20 RS Porsche Design.

The official launch of the Mate 20 series in China was held on 26th October and went on sale on the same day. Now, the company has announced that it managed to sell the Mate 20 series phones worth 100 million in just eight seconds.

In the peak moment of the Mate 20 series sale, the traffic on the Huawei Mall website reached around seven million users in just 10 seconds, a record high for the company. The Chinese company also said in order to manage such high amount of traffic, Huawei Cloud utilised its second-level elastic scalability to expand resources in such a short period of time.

In addition to this, the company also recommended accessories to the users with the help of Huawei EI Smart Recommendation service, which users artificial intelligence and big data technology. This also helped the company increase the conversion rate on its platform.

Besides Huawei Mall, the Mate 20 series devices were also available for purchase through third-party e-commerce platforms. Data provided by Suning Tesco reveals that majority of the purchase for the Mate 20 series were from males, which accounted for 78.8 percent while females accounted for 21.2 percent. 46.7 percent of the buyers were aged between 26-35 years while the buyers aged 36-45 years old accounted for 23.14 percent.

The Huawei Mate 20 costs 3,999 Yuan (approximately $576) for the 6GB + 64GB model while the 6GB + 128GB model is priced at 4,499 Yuan (approximately $648). The Mate 20 Pro costs 5,399 Yuan for the 6GB + 128GB model and goes up to 6,799 Yuan (approximately $979) for the top-end 8GB + 256GB model.

The phone ships with all the usual items and some extras include a soft TPU case and a headphone jack adapter.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

The phone comes in Emerald Green, Pink Gold, Black, Twilight and Midnight Blue color options.

I have the latter one. Even though I wanted to get the Twilight color, the blue model looks just gorgeous. I also had a chance to check out the black color option that looks nice and clean.

The Mate 20 Pro carries a ridiculously high price tag of about 1000 EUR here in Europe but it does offer a ton of premium features.

The Mate 20 Pro is a true powerhouse as it ships with the latest Kirin 980 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage which is expandable via the Nano Memory – the new type of memory cards introduced by Huawei. Innovation in this department is great but a lot of users would love to see a more conventional microSD card slot.

At the first glance, the Mate 20 Pro is yet another flagship phone that has a familiar design – glass on the front and rear, a metal frame and display with the notch. However, this is one of the most innovative phones of 2018 since it packs a lot of features we haven’t seen on other devices.

Also, the phone looks a lot different than the last year’s Mate 10 Pro and this year’s P20 Pro. By the way, this is the Morpho Aurora color of the P20 Pro. It would be nice if Huawei released the Mate 20 Pro with this color finish later on.

First of all, the backplate of the phone uses Hyper Optical Pattern design which is said to be more durable, easy to grip and fingerprint resistant. In practice, it’s really nice to the touch and it indeed attracts fewer fingerprints than conventional glass. It’s still quite slippery, though.

The 6.39″ (1440 x 3120px) HDR OLED display has the notch but you can hide it if you don’t like it.

The screen is super sharp and vibrant thanks high resolution. In addition, I like the color reproduction and I had no issues seeing it outdoors due to great brightness output. Despite a huge panel, the phone is fairly compact due to slim bezels on each side. Also, it’s really comfortable to hold the device in one hand.

One of the highlights of the phone – in-display fingerprint scanner. Well, it takes a bit more time to set it up but it works really well. It may be just a tad slower to unlock the phone but it works 10/10 times. Well done, Huawei, I hope other manufacturers will implement this feature soon.

In addition, Huawei improved the face recognition feature and it is now called 3D Face Unlock. There is an IR laser system inside the notch that contributes to excellent face unlock feature performance. I can see a massive improvement over the P20 Pro in terms of speed and accuracy. Also, this feature works well in low light.

On the back, you can find an upgraded Leica camera setup that now consists of regular, telephoto and wide-angle cameras: 40 MP, f/1.8, 27mm (wide); 20 MP, f/2.2, 16mm (ultrawide);8 MP, f/2.4, 80mm (telephoto).

On the front, you can find a beefy 24MP selfie shooter. We will talk about image quality in just a bit.

The phone also an LED notification light and IR blaster. However, there is no headphone jack but the sound quality via the supplied adapter has been excellent. Just like most of the flagships, the Mate 20 Pro is IP68-certified for water and dust resistance.

A lot of consumers roasted the P20 Pro for not having a wireless charging feature but the Mate 20 Pro has it and the device takes it to another level. First of all, the new Mate provides 15W of power output. What’s more interesting is that the device works as a wireless charging pad, which lets you charge other phones. I know that many will say this is a gimmick but I love innovation and I personally use this feature with my Galaxy S9+… that has kind of average battery life.

The Mate 20 Pro has a dual stereo speakers system. What’s interesting is that the bottom firing speaker is implemented in the USB-C port. This has never been done before and I applaud the Huawei for being the first to do that.  The sound quality is really good overall as it is balanced and clear.

HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

Great specifications of the Mate 20 Pro assure excellent gaming performance. In fact, the new Mate is the first Android phone that uses a 7nm CPU.

I played quite a few 3D games on the highest graphics settings to push the hardware to its limits and there was no stutter, no lag and the graphics looked nice. In addition, the phone did not get hot even after 30 mins of gaming.

The Mate 20 Pro is also really fast and snappy on the daily basis thanks to the EMUI 9.0 that is based on the Android 9. Two integrated NPU’s alongside 7nm processor are here to assure the best user experience in terms of speed and responsiveness.

Besides all the features and customization options, the user interface has a new control system that gets rid of the navigation bar and it is based on swipes. It took me just a couple of hours to get used to it and I love it. If you don’t like it, you can always use more conventional navigation methods. The user interface is very different from the stock Android but if you follow my channel, you know that the EMUI has grown on me as I’ve been using the P20 Pro since the official launch.

I can’t say I need all the features but it’s always great to have plenty of options to choose from. Most importantly, the Mate 20 Pro is ridiculously fast and fluid even after installing plenty of apps. Flagship-grade performance.

The highlight of the camera app is the ability to switch from telephoto and wide-angle cameras very quickly. There are plenty of camera modes but my favorites are auto, night and the pro mode that allows you to adjust a few image settings.

I have to tell you that it is really awesome to have so many camera lenses on a phone. Regular, zoom and my favorite 16mm wide-angle lens usually take really nice and detailed pictures and you can capture the same scene from a different perspective. I took almost all pictures side by side in auto, wide angle and telephoto modes and I uploaded them to my Facebook page in case you want to see more camera samples.

The pictures taken in auto mode look nice, sharp and detailed. I also like the colors and dynamic range is decent. The only complaint is that you cannot use zoom or wide angle lens in full 40MP. That’s why I used the default 10MP mode to take most of the shots. In addition, I could only test the camera on a cloudy day, meaning that the lighting conditions were not ideal.

Portrait shots usually look really nice as the object or subject is nicely separated from the background with almost no artifacts and the bokeh looks creamy. You can also take super macro pictures which is another standout feature of the Mate 20 Pro. The main lens can focus up to 2.5cm and the results are really good.

Low-light image quality is really good too even though some shots have a yellow tint and images taken with the telephoto lens could look better.

However, if you use a dedicated night mode, you can take one of the best low-light pictures on a phone. Just like the P20 Pro, the Mate 20 Pro allows you to take long exposure shots without a tripod and the results are simply amazing. This is arguably the best night image quality I’ve seen on any smartphone.

Selfies look nice. They are sharp, detailed and the colors are quite accurate. Selfie portrait shots look nice too as there no severe artifacts around the subject and pictures will look nice on social media. You can also change the background blur effects and you may have already seen that if you follow me on Instagram.

4K video quality has improved dramatically over the P20 Pro. It is now super smooth and stable thanks to the hybrid stabilization system (OIS + EIS). There is quite a lot of detail and sharpness too. However, there is some jello effect going on and video using telephoto cameras does not look great. Keep in mind that the phone runs on a very early software build and I’m sure Huawei will improve that because the powerful hardware is here.

1080p selfie video looks great as it is smooth and stable. Finally, the sound recording quality is good.

BATTERY LIFE

The Mate 20 Pro has a massive 4200mAh battery that has been performing extremely well. In fact, the new Mate probably has the best battery life on any flagship smartphone.

I could get 9 hours of screen-on time (SOT) under heavy usage of the phone, which is really impressive. If you use the phone just for the basic stuff, you can expect to get over 12 hours of SOT.

Another example: I unplugged the phone at 8 AM, used it quite a bit for taking pictures, reading news and social media, used max. screen brightness setting a lot and … the phone still had 73% of the battery 9.30PM. This is a simply amazing result and it’s certainly the best battery life flagship smartphone I’ve ever had.  

What’s even more impressive is that the Huawei introduced a super fast 40W charging tech that allows you to charge the phone’s battery up to 70% in just 30 mins. In other words, you can fully charge the phone in under 1 hour with the supplied super fast charger.

CONNECTIVITY

The Mate 20 Pro offers ultra-fast 4.5G network speeds, excellent signal reception, great call quality, super fast Wifi, and dual-frequency GPS that I found to be very accurate for both driving and walking. Also, there is NFC and plenty of sensors on board.

CONCLUSIONS

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is an expensive phone but it offers plenty of innovative features and it might be one of the most complete smartphones the money can buy at the moment but there are a few caveats to consider.

I love the design, great build quality, sharp display, great overall performance, one of the best and versatile cameras, insanely good battery life, plenty of connectivity options and the phone is really comfortable to hold in the hand.

I also love Huawei for implementing plenty of innovative features like world’s first 7nm CPU, an in-display fingerprint scanner, the speaker that is embedded in the USB-C port, reverse wireless charging, 40W super fast charging, the lens that is capable of 2.5cm minimum focusing distance and the new Nano Memory standard.

The downsides of the Mate 20 Pro include the lack of the headphone jack, not really impressive video quality using zoom camera but that may be improved with the future software updates since the phone still runs on an early software build.

Other than that, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a true flagship smartphone that is just loaded with features, it has a ton of power and it is easily one of the best smartphones of 2018, despite a hefty price tag. In fact, this is my new daily driver for a reason and that says a lot as I’m usually very picky with each gadget I use.

The Huawei Mate 20 features a 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen with FHD+ resolution. It is equipped with a small-sized notch. It is equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a curved 6.39-inch AMOLED display. The larger notch houses sensors that are responsible for 3D face unlock feature.

The Mate 20 Pro has arrived in two variants in China. The first one features a regular rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The other one is called Mate 20 Pro UD where UD refers to under-display fingerprint scanner.

Soon after announcing the Huawei Mate 20 series of flagship phones through the Oct. 16 London launch event, the Chinese manufacturer confirmed that it will be announcing its newest flagship phones in China on Oct. 26. A new leak that has surfaced on Weibo suggests that the entire expect for the Mate 20X gaming smartphone and the premium Mate 20 RS Porsche Design phone, Huawei will be releasing only the other Mate 20 devices in China. The leak has also revealed the pricing and color variants of all the Mate 20 phones that will be hitting the home market.

The leaked image shown below states the Mate 20 that will carry a price tag of 4,299 Yuan (~$619) will feature 64 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM. The Mate 20 Pro that is priced at 5,299 Yuan (~$763) will be advanced version of the Mate 20 Pro as it will feature 128 GB of storage and the same 6 GB of RAM.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro that was unveiled in Europe features an in-screen fingerprint reader. However, the Mate 20 Pro arriving in China seems to be equipped with a regular rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The leak states that the more powerful Mate 20 Pro models will come equipped with under-display fingerprint scanner.

The leaked image further reveals that the Mate 20 Pro (UD) handset will be arriving in two variants. These include 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage + 8 GB RAM. Both phones are respectively priced at 5,799 Yuan (~$835) and 6,299 Yuan (~$907). Both of these models will be arriving with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. These smartphones are expected to release in China in color variants such as Emerald Green, Midnight Blue, Twilight and Black.

In the Europe, the Mate 20 comes in two models namely, 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB RAM. These models respectively cost 799 euros (~$916) and 849 euros (~$979). The Mate 20 Pro for Europe comes in a single variant that includes 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM. It is priced at 1,049 euros (~$1,200).

Huawei decided to tow the line of  Apple by including a 3D Face Unlock technology on its latest flagship Mate 20 Pro. The device can be unlocked using an in-display fingerprint sensor and the 3D face recognition technology.  Tech blog Android Pit has reported a recent discovery that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro3D face recognition can be unlocked by a person with some resemblance to the original owner of the phone. 

According to the report, the review copy that was received was being passed around in the office, apparently for everyone to catch a glimpse. But interestingly, a second person who with a slight resemblance to the original user was able to unlock the phone using the Face unlock feature. Repeated tests showed that the feature isn’t very secure. A second Huawei Mate 20 Pro unit was used for the test and the result was still the same thing. Although Huawei had issued a disclaimer about the insecure nature of the 3D Face Unlock, we don’t expect it to open so easily despite both persons having similar looks. Even in this case, there are some key features separating both persons although they are both full-bearded and have short hair.  First, the two men have different skin colours, different contours, eye colour. Also, one of the men uses glasses while the other one doesn’t.

It must be noted that both copies of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro use the same software version, with build number 9.0.0.113 (C432E10R1P16). In that case, the easiest explanation that can be adduced is that it could be a software glitch and should be something an update should fix. Since both units are earlier models, the same problem may not be on the commercial units.

The recently announced Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the most powerful smartphone from the company. The official AnTuTu benchmark scores of the handset has been revealed. The Mate 20 Pro that is powered by 7nm Kirin 980 has managed to breach 300k AnTuTu score.

AnTuTu has recently released the list of top 10 best performance Android phones for the month of September. The list includes smartphones like ASUS ROG Phone, Xiaomi Black Shark, OnePlus 6, Vivo NEX S, Xiaomi Mi 8, OPPO Find X, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, ASUS ZenFone 5Z, Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S and Xiaomi Poco F1. These phones are fueled by Snapdragon 845 chipset which is the 2^nd generation 10nm chipset from Qualcomm. The list no longer includes Kirin 970 powered Huawei and Honor phones. Even Exynos SoC driven Samsung phones have been ousted from the list.

On AnTuTu, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro (LYA-AL00 model number) has scored an average benchmarking score of 307,059 which is higher than 285k to 299k AnTuTu scores of the best performance Android phones for the previous month. Performance-wise, there won’t be major difference between a phone that scores around 290k points and other handset with nearly 310k points on AnTuTu. However, the 300k+ score of the Mate 20 Pro does reveal the prowess of the Kirin 980 SoC.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro that has been benchmarked on AnTuTu includes 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, Quad HD+ resolution supporting screen and Android 9 Pie OS. The Mate 20 Pro along with its sibling Mate 20, Mate 20X may lead AnTuTu’s list of top 10 best performance Android phones in October.

The upcoming Honor Magic 2 will be the first Honor phone to feature the Kirin 980 chipset. By the end of the year, Honor is expected to release Kirin 980 powered Honor V20 smartphones. These phones may also lead the AnTuTu’s best performance list of smartphones in the forthcoming months.

The AnTuTu scores of the Mate 20 Pro is still behind Apple’s recent iPhones. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max that are driven by 7nm Apple A12 chipset have respectively scored 348,581 and 348,148 points on AnTuTu benchmarks.

Amazon India has started a “Notify Me” page for the Mate 20 Pro which indicates that the country will be soon receiving the latest flagship phone from Huawei. The Chinese manufacturer has directly confirmed to the India media that the Mate 20 Pro will be debuting in the country in November.

Earlier this year, Huawei had released the Huawei P20 Pro along with P20 Lite in India. There is no confirmation whether any other Mate 20 series phone will be launching alongside the Mate 20 Pro in the country. Probably, the company may release the mid-range Mate 20 Lite alongside the Mate 20 Pro.

The Amazon India page for Mate 20 Pro touts features like AI, 7nm chipset, ultra-wide angle triple camera and 40W SuperChage. The retailer site hasn’t #AmazonExclusive hashtag for Mate 20 Pro. The recent Huawei phones have been exclusively available through Amazon India. Hence, it appears that the Mate 20 Pro will be only available on the said retailer site.

The Mate 20 Pro features a 6.39-inch curved OLED screen. The notched display offers 18.7:9 aspect ratio, Quad HD+ resolution and it is embedded with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The handset is loaded with Android 9.0 Pie that is flavored with the latest EMUI skin.

Here is what sets the Mate 20 RS apart from Mate 20 Pro smartphone. Instead of the glass rear, the Mate 20 RS has a premium leather. Huawei‘s Mate 20 series will be officially unveiled on Tuesday, October 16. There have been massive leaks in the past week but a new one has surfaced which reveals an important detail for one of the models.

Photos have surfaced on the web that shows one of the Mate 20 phones will have a stylus. You read that right. The live photos seem to be from an official document but were originally taken in a Huawei store.

In the images, we can see three phones placed under the Mate 20 stand- two which stand side-by-side and have a similar size while a much larger one is propped up on the right. The pictures are blurry but we believe the two phones on the left are the Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20.

The larger device which is on the right is the one with a stylus albeit a pretty big one. We presume this is the Mate 20X said to be aimed at gamers, but from the images, it seems Huawei has added stylus support as one of its distinguishing features.

Samsung is no doubt the king of stylus-toting phones with its Galaxy Note series and no manufacturer has been able to take the crown from it. However, Huawei seems to want to make an attempt with the Mate 20 X.

Obviously, the stylus doesn’t fit into the device, so Samsung has the upper hand here. We also have no idea what features Huawei has added to the Mate 20X with respect to stylus support so we can’t say if it measures up to that of the Note series. Nevertheless, we are eager to see the stylus in action.

The Mate 20X will come with an AMOLED display like its siblings but much larger in size. It will also have a Kirin 980 processor and quad rear cameras but is expected to pack a bigger battery and also have a cooling technology to keep the phone from heating up during extended gaming sessions.
