OPPO is celebrating 10 years of manufacturing smartphones (2008 to 2018). There is no elaborate event, at least we haven’t heard of one save for Wednesday’s 10x optical zoom unveiling. However, the Chinese phone maker has taken to Weibo to celebrate some of its iconic releases. Below is a list of some of them:

OPPO A103

This was OPPO’s first phone. The A103 is a feature phone with a unique design even back in 2008. It has a smiley face on its back formed by the rear camera and flash and topped it off with a nice gold finish.

OPPO P51

The OPPO P51 would pass for a Sony Ericsson phone if you swapped the manufacturer’s name on the front. It also rocked an alphanumeric keyboard like the A103. It was released in two colors – metallic gray with green accents and white with red accents.

OPPO T9

This launched in 2009 just like the OPPO P51. It ditched the alphanumeric keyboard for a touchscreen display. Although it did keep some hardware keys. Like the P51, it also had a green accent albeit a different shade.

OPPO U529

Just when we thought OPPO was done with phones with a physical keyboard, it launched the U529. The U529 is a flip phone and must have been a hit among women thanks to its pink color. The alternating shades used for the keyboard is a nice touch.

OPPO X903

The X903 brought back the touchscreen display along with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It ran Android 2.2 Froyo and had a 1GHz processor, an 8MP rear camera and a 4-inch screen with 10-point multi-touch.

OPPO Finder

The OPPO Finder launched as the world’s thinnest smartphone in 2012 with a thickness of just 6.65 mm. There are a lot of phones much thicker than that even 7 years later.

The Finder wasn’t cheap. It cost over $600 and that got you a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and 1.3MP front-facing camera. I bet no one will pay even a third of that for a phone with the above specs this year.

OPPO N1

The OPPO N1 was a very popular phone when it launched in 2013 thanks to its rotating rear camera which doubled as the front-facing camera. It had a large 5.9-inch display (by 2013 standards), 2GB of RAM and a 3,610mAh battery.

The OPPO N1 still packs a larger battery than some phones released in the past year with a larger display.

OPPO Find 7 and Find 7a

The Find 7 and Find 7a even brought better specs but they will be remembered for bringing VOOC fast charging.

OPPO R7 and OPPO R7s

In 2015, OPPO became one of the top 10 smartphone brands in the world as it sold 50 million units. That year, some of its notable releases were the OPPO R7 and the OPPO R7s which are mid-range phones but came bundled with VOOC fast-charge technology.

OPPO R9 and R9s

In 2016, OPPO continued with just mid-range phones as it had done the previous year but that didn’t stop it from climbing higher in the top 10 list. The OPPO R9 series of smartphones were its popular releases that year.

OPPO R11 and OPPO R11s

2017 began the same way with the mid-range OPPO R11 but for the second half of the year, OPPO switched the design of its phones by adopting the new 18:9 aspect ratio. It was also the year dual cameras gained popularity and OPPO wasn’t left behind. The OPPO R11 had dual rear cameras but the OPPO R11s added the new display design.

OPPO Find X

The Find X is one of OPPO’s most important device ever. It made a big splash in the mobile industry with its unique design. It had a very high screen-to-body ratio as a result of the top bezel getting shaved off.

The usual sensors that lined the top bezel were hidden and only became visible via a motorized slide-out mechanism. The rear cameras and flash were also hidden and were revealed by the same slide-out module.

The Find X also marked the return of OPPO into the proper flagship category as it came with the same top of the range processor that powered a lot of other flagships in 2018.

A special edition of the phone brought a faster version of its VOOC charging technology. Dubbed SuperVOOC, you could charge your phone from empty to full in just 35 minutes.

Last week, OPPO had announced is software acceleration engine called Hyper Boost for significantly improving the performance its smartphones. Hyper Boost is all about optimizing the device’s performance in three areas namely, system, games and apps. The OPPO R17 and R17 Pro were confirmed as the first devices to receive Hyper Boost through a software update. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed a list of OPPO phones that will be upgraded to Hyper Boost through the latest ColorOS 5.2.1 update.

The OPPO Find X is scheduled to receive the Hyper Boost engine in this month. In November, the Chinese manufacturer will be making it available to devices like OPPO R11, R11 Plus, R11s, R11s Plus, A83 and A1.

In December, the OPPO R9s, R17, R15, R15 Dream Mirror Edition, A5, A79 and A73 will be getting the Hyper Boost engine through ColorOS 5.2.1 update. In January 2019, OPPO will be releasing the update for OPPO R9s Plus, A77 and A3.

Hyper Boost is OPPO’s version of GPU Turbo technology that is available on Huawei and Honor smartphones. Hyper Boost’s Behavior Aware Scheduling (BAS) feature can arrange the frequency of hardware in 0.2 milliseconds on a smartphone against Linux kernel of Android that adjusts hardware frequency in 20 milliseconds. This will allow the company to significantly boost the system performance on the aforementioned devices. The Chinese manufacturer had also claimed that Hyper Boost powered devices will offer up to 31.9 percent shorter loading times.

For optimized gaming experience on OPPO phones, the company has teamed up with Tencent, Netease, Unreal, Unity and others to ensure lag-free gaming on the top 100 mobile games. OPPO will be working on improving the Hyper Boost engine by adding AI features to it.

The OPPO R11 and R11 Plus smartphones that were introduced in June last year are the first smartphones to be driven by Snapdragon 660. Rumors are rife that Qualcomm will soon announce the Snapdragon 670 as the successor edition of Snapdragon 660. Since two new OPPO phones rumored as OPPO R13 and R13 Plus have received 3C certification in China, it is speculated that the OPPO R13 duo could be the first Snapdragon 670 chipset driven smartphones.

OPPO phones with model numbers PAAT00 and PAAM00 have recently appeared on China’s 3C certification website. Apart from support for 20W fast charging, nothing else have been disclosed about these OPPO phones through their 3C listing.

VOOC is a fast charging technology by OPPO that offers 20W fast charging. Currently, only the R-series of smartphones from OPPO are available with 20W VOOC charging feature. Hence, it is speculated that the PAAT00 and PAAM00 could be the upcoming OPPO R13 and OPPO R13 Plus smartphones. Since the Snapdragon 660 chipset had powered the OPPO R11 duo, the Snapdragon 670 may fuel the upcoming OPPO R13 and R13 Plus smartphones.

Plenty of information of the unannounced Snapdragon 670 chipset have already surfaced. Rumors have revealed that the SD670 is a chipset that is designed to power upper mid-range smartphones. It is built with 10nm FinFET process like the Snapdragon 845 and Exynos 9810 SoCs that are designed to power flagship phones.

The Snapdragon 670 includes six cores of Kryo 300 Silver and two cores of Kryo 300 Gold along with Adreno 615 graphics. It has been spotted on Geekbench 1863 single-core and 5256 multi-core benchmark scores.

Previous leaks have revealed that the OPPO R13 and OPPO R13 phones will be sporting a notch design like the iPhone X. The R13 and R13 Plus are expected to come with advanced facial recognition feature. Like the iPhone X, the R13 duo are rumored to feature gesture-enabled virtual home bar and vertically stacked dual rear cameras. The OPPO R13 and R13 are expected to come preloaded with Color OS 4.0 flavored Android 8.1 Oreo. The OPPO R13 may arrive with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage whereas the R13 Plus may feature 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage.

On Nov. 2, OPPO will be unleashing the OPPO R11s and OPPO R11s Plus smartphones. These phones will be arriving as improved editions of the OPPO R11 and R11 Plus that was launched in June this year. The OPPO R11s and R11s Plus were spotted on TENAA earlier in this month. However, their specs were not revealed. The OPPO R11s duo have appeared on TENAA once again to reveal their entire specifications and images.

The images that have surfaced through TENAA listing reveals that the OPPO R11s duo would be arriving with a metal unibody design that slight improvements in design compared to their original models. The backside of the R11s duo feature rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and dual cameras. These phones are also fitted with 18:9 full screen panels.

The OPPO R11s has a 6-inch display that carries support for full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. Like the original R11 phone, the R11s is also fueled by Snapdragon 660 chipset along with a 3,120mAh battery. The smartphone includes 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. It measures 155.1 x 75.5 x 7.1mm and its weight is 153 grams.

The larger OPPO R11s is equipped with a 6.43-inch display and it also supports FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It is also driven by Snapdragon 660 chipset and it houses a 3,880mAh battery. The SoC is supported by 6 GB of RAM and it comes with an inbuilt storage of 64 GB. The dimensions of the OPPO R11s Plus are 164.8 x 80.2 x 7.3mm and it weighs 182 grams.

The OPPO R11s and R11s Plus are running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. Both the phones will be equipped with AI driven 20-megapixel selfie camera that can beautify selfie shots by enhancing over 250 facial features by intelligently analyzing factors like age, gender, skin tone and more. The rear sides of the OPPO R11s and R11s Plus are equipped with 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera system. The OPPO R11s duo are expected to be available in color options like gold, black and red.

A well-known analyst from China has claimed that the Chinese manufacturer is expecting incredible sales of OPPO R11s and R11s Plus. Hence, the supply chain has reportedly has been asked by OPPO to prepare 10 million units of the R11s duo. Rumors have it that the OPPO R11s will be priced at 2,999 Yuan (~$451) and the larger R11s Plus will be costing 3,499 Yuan (~$526).

OPPO is not new to special edition phones. It has been doing it for years just like its sister company, Vivo. The OPPO R11, its latest flagship has received two special edition models – a FC Barcelona Edition and a TFBOYS Edition. It will be adding a third next week – OPPO R11 King of Glory Edition.

King of Glory is one of the most popular online multiplayer battle games. Published by Tencent Games and with a report of 200 million active players monthly as at July 2017, it’s clear to see why OPPO will want to make a special edition of its R11 phone for the game.

The special edition phone will be launched on September 29 as a way to mark the anniversary of the game. A teaser image posted on OPPO’s Weibo page gives us a glimpse of what to expect.

The OPPO R11 King of Glory Edition is actually the red variant with some changes. There is a gold King of Glory emblem on the back with gold accents around the dual cameras and for the OPPO laser engraving. The UI will also feature elements from the game.

OPPO continues its strides in the International scene with the latest report from Taiwan showing the company has again recorded some success in the Taiwanese market. Market data released by Taiwan Science and Technology Media showed the smartphone sales for the month of July 2017 was topped by the OPPO R11 in the Android segment but Apple had the largest market share. 

The statistical data contains the performance of the top 20 models in the Taiwan market and it shows that Apple made a strong showing with the iPhone 7 Plus 128GB re-emerging as the top selling model in the month under review. On the Android scene, the OPPO R11 emerged as the most popular Android phone in the entire country. Oppo also had two models on the list; the OPPO A57 and OPPO A77 which were ranked 7th and 9th respectively. 

The most spectacular thing about the R11’s performance in Taiwan is that the device just went up for sale about a month before then and surprisingly the smartphone raked in enough sales to become the second highest selling brand.

Samsung fell from the top spot but still stayed in the top 5 spots with the Galaxy J7 Prime and J2 Prime clinching the third and fourth spots. This is closely followed by Sony with the Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia XZ.

OPPO has officially unveiled the R11 FC Barcelona Edition in line with the several teasers which had been making the rounds before now. The OPPO R11 FC Barcelona Edition was launched in Shanghai China today with a number of premium features which made the company peg the price of this version at 3,499 Yuan (~$522). The new edition will go on sale as from August 18 at 10 AM.

OPPO’s romance with FC Barcelona dates back to the days of the OPPO R7 Plus which featured a special FC Barcelona edition. Thereafter, the OPPO R9 also featured a premium FC Barca edition and now the OPPO R11 is getting a similar treatment. One common feature of all three models is the FC Barcelona logo and official colour which they feature but the depth of customization is said to have evolved to a more intense level.However, the OPPO R9 FC Barcelona edition came with a higher price tag of 3999 Yuan ($607) and was available in Red, Blue, and Gray colours.

The OPPO R11 FC Barcelona Edition features an 18K gold-plated Barca logo at the back which is usually handcrafted in previous models. The device is coloured in a dominant Blue colour at the upper part and Red at the bottom aspect at the rear while the front part is just plain black. The two colours of Blue and Red are the official home colour of FC Barcelona and also the device uses an all-metal body. There is also a few texts at the red coloured part at the rear which indicates that OPPO is an official partner of the Catalan giant. The border between the red and blue coloured part adorns a strip of Gold coloured line which is 0.4mm wide and 0.1mm thick.

Yesterday OPPO released a teaser hinting at a new smartphone said to be unveiled today. We were able to deduce that the phone is actually a special FC Barcelona edition of the OPPO R11. Today a new poster was released confirming our guess. However, it won’t be available until August 8.

OPPO isn’t new to making special editions of its flagship device. Last year it released the OPPO R9 FC Barcelona Edition which was available in Blue, Red and Gray. So it is no surprise that it is doing the same this year. The new poster reveals that their new phone, the R11 will get the same treatment as there is the club’s logo at the top right corner.

We don’t know if OPPO will follow the same procedure as they did for the R9. The R9 FC Barcelona Edition was available in four variants. There was a single special unit that had the signatures of football stars Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar Jr and an 18 carat Gold Barcelona logo. That unit was sold for $13,500 and the money was given to charity. Then there were the red, blue and grey units that sold for under a $1000. Chances are the R11 will get the same treatment.

While OPPO’s special edition variants are of the football club, its sister company, Vivo makes special NBA editions or Golden State Warriors editions of its flagships.

The OPPO R11 and its bigger sibling, the OPPO R11 Plus are the first phones to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 mobile platform. The Snapdragon 660 is currently the king of the mid-range chips in the market right now, so we have no issues with OPPO using it for their flagship phones.

It however came as a surprise when we saw a Snapdragon 835 variant of the OPPO R11 on Geekbench. The Geekbench listing also reveals that this OPPO R11 has 6GB of RAM and runs Android 7.1.1.

The device scores 1953 points in the single-core test and 6329 points in the multi-core test. Compare these results to that of the Sony Xperia XZ1 powered by the same processor though with a smaller RAM (single-core:1909; multi-core:6459) and you can see they are similar.

OPPO is not known for using flagship processors. Its flagship phones in the last few years have been powered by mid-range chips so this is quite strange. The only other way to look at it is if this is the OPPO Find 9 being masked as a high-end OPPO R11. Let us hope more details about this device comes up in the following weeks.

OPPO has released a poster which tends to point at the impending launch of a new smartphone but this isn’t a new mode per se. The teaser seems to refer to an upgraded version of the R11, specifically the FC Barcelona edition of the OPPO R11. The teaser did not state in clear terms what will be launched but the teaser poster image looks like the colour combination on the OPPO R9 FC Barcelona edition.surrounding a smartphone which is clearly the OPPO R11.

The OPPO R9 which is the R11’s predecessor had a customised edition dubbed the FC Barcelona Edition which came the team’s logo and name at the rear as well as the red and blue jersey colour of FC Barcelona. There was a limited edition with an 18K gold-plated Barca logo at the back which is reportedly crafted by hand. Further, the signatures of three Barca players – Messi, Suarez and Neymar were at the back of the limited edition. The customised edition was auctioned of JD.com last year to raise money for charity and it was sold for a whopping 88,914 Yuan which is about $13,494. The OPPO R9 FC Barcelona edition has a price tag of 3999 Yuan ($607) and was available in Red, Blue, and Gray colours.

The teaser also comes with a dominant blue colour with a touch of red and is revealed to have taken OPPO over one year to design. The device will be officially unveiled tomorrow for us to know its features but if really this is the OPPO R11 FC Barcelona edition, the specifications will likely remain the same with changes being on the design only.

Xiaomi’s upcoming mid-range phone has been popping up in the news at almost the same rate as the Meizu Pro 7. The device is tipped to belong to a new smartphone series Xiaomi is introducing to take on OPPO and Vivo. The leaked image of the device seems to corroborate this claim as it looks like the OPPO R11. As if that isn’t enough, a new leaked detail has emerged which contains the price as well as some key specifications of the Xiaomi model identified as X1.

The leaked detail shows that the Xiaomi X1 will come with a price of 1999 Yuan (~$295) which is a decent price. Some of the specs details also contained in the poster is the device will feature a similar 5.5-inch display size with a metal body. In addition, it will come with a dual camera setup at the rear having optical zoom. These are all features of the OPPO R11 and if the rumours are correct, then the device will also be fueled by a Snapdragon 660 chip with 4GB + 64GB memory at the minimum.

The OPPO R11 and R11 Plus were unveiled a few weeks ago and they are already on sale in China. For those outside China, OPPO has announced that its first stop is Taiwan.

The dual camera smartphone is the world’s first Snapdragon 660 device. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The dual camera combo includes a 16MP f/1.7 Sony IMX398 sensor and a 20MP f/2.6 Sony IMX350 sensor with telephoto lens. The front camera is a 20MP f/2.0 sensor.

OPPO bundles the R11 with a 3000mAh battery with its VOOC fast charge technology. There is Android 7.1.1 Nougat on board with OPPO’s Color OS 3.1 on top.

The OPPO R11 is priced at ¥2999 (~$439) but will sell for NT $ 15,990 in Taiwan (~$526). It is still unknown if the larger R11 Plus will also be launched in Taiwan.

One big surprise of 2016 has been OPPO. The brand, which was relatively unknown to the world, has managed to get into the big players club, a feat for which, many companies have struggled for years. The strategy adopted by the company has been pretty straightforward, create a standard quality smartphone with upper mid-range specs, market it like crazy to the common masses –especially the young generation —  by roping in popular celebrities to promote the product and create a super strong offline channel which will drive sales. This has worked wonders for the brand, with its OPPO R9 model, released early last year, becoming the best-selling smartphone of the year.

The company has continued a similar strategy for its successor, which brings us to the OPPO R11. The phone has some big shoes to fill and it is an extremely important phone for the brand as this model will decide whether OPPO continues its mind-boggling growth in 2017 as well.

Recently, we got to play around with the OPPO R11 and we can confirm that the basic strategy of the company remains the same. The phone looks and feels solid, the UI is fluid and the camera is pretty good. This is just our first impressions and we are going to test it in detail very soon.

OPPO has never been the smartphone company that shies away from copying a good design, and it’s all the more evident with the OPPO R11. Apple came up with a good design for the iPhone 7 Plus and OPPO thought it was about time Android lovers got a taste of this. The R11 replicates the exact dual camera arrangement as the iPhone 7 Plus, making it look so much like the Apple flagship.

Even the antenna bands are similarly placed near the edges. To be fair, calling this as a direct copy from Apple would be wrong. Many smartphones have adopted this less intrusive antenna band design (placed near to the edges) and the R11, in fact, differentiates itself with a two line antenna design, instead of a single thick one.

But overall, the phone does have an iPhone-esque feel.

The front of the phone is simple, with a large sensor on top and a physical home button at the bottom of the display. The bezels on the sides are also sufficiently thin. The fingerprint is fast and responsive and so is the touch screen.

Coming to the back, you have an iPhone-like dual camera placement, along with dual tone flash. The back has a smooth finish.

All the important ports, including the 3.5mm headphone jack, are located at the bottom of the phone. Note that the phone comes with a hybrid dual SIM slot, so you can use a MicroSD card slot at the expense of a nano SIM.

So you’ll find a speaker, USB port, and a headphone jack at the bottom. While it’s great to see that the phone didn’t copy Apple in ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack, it’s extremely disappointing to see OPPO continue its tradition of going with the old MicroUSB 2.0 port. I haven’t seen a USB Type-C OPPO phone yet, which leads me to believe that there’s a big reason why OPPO is still sticking with the MicroUSB standard. Maybe it has something to do with the company’s proprietary fast charging tech, VOOC, but we haven’t got an official explanation yet.

For software, the phone is running on Android 7.1.1 with ColorOS 3.1 on top.

While we’ll compare the cameras on the R11 with all other flagship models very soon, our initial impression is that the dual camera performs well. It’s fast to focus and the photos come out clear and crisp. But we’ll soon see how good it is as compared to the top players in the Chinese market like the Huawei P10, Nubia Z17 in our upcoming comparison.

This week’s release of the OnePlus 5 and Oppo’s R11 June 10 release, we can finally compare the OnePlus 5 and its sister Oppo R11 between each other.

Both the phones look very similar to each other and to the iPhone 7 Plus, but there are some key differences that set them apart from each other.

Design

From the image, we can see OnePlus has opted for antenna lines that curve toward the edges of the phones, same principle as the R11. But they are not exactly the same as the R11 has a three line design while OnePlus 5 uses a single band antenna design. Further OP5 differs from the R11 in terms of the notification slider, USB-C and the microphone between the cameras and flash on the OnePlus 5.

Hardware Specifications

In this department, we begin to see where the resemblance beings to depart. The CPUs powering each device differ, the OnePlus 5 housing Snapdragon’s high-end 835 processor compared to the Upper-Mid Tier Snapdragon 660. The RAM is greater in the OnePlus at 6/8GB whilst the R11 houses 4/6GB. OnePlus has also ensured consumers that internal storage will be 64/128GB UFS 2.1 whilst the R11 will come with 64GB with eMMC speeds.

Camera

Both smartphones run with dual-rear firing shooters, to the general consumer both smartphones almost share near-identical camera setups. The OnePlus 5 (16-megapixel IMX398 regular sensor with f/1.7 lens and a 20-megapixel IMX350 sensor with f/2.6 telephoto lens), R11 (16-megapixel IMX398 regular sensor with f/1.7 lens and a 20-megapixel IMX376 sensor with f/2.6 telephoto lens).

The clearest difference is the telephoto lens, it appears that the R11 will be using a more recent variant, however, following OnePlus and DxO’s collaboration, we should be expecting the OnePlus 5’s camera performance to be better.

As for the front-facing selfie shooter, there is more difference, the OnePlus 5 16-megapixel IMX371 with f/2.0 lens and the Oppo R11 20-megapixel with f/2.0 lens.

Features

The OnePlus includes NFC and USB-C (with audio output) not found on the R11. Whilst the R11 offers MicroSD expansion (up to 256GB). In terms of connectivity, both OnePlus 5 models will come with Global band support, whilst the R11 will support a limited amount.

OPPO is the second on the list of smartphone manufacturers in China. That is no small feat and must have required a lot of hard work to get there. OPPO’s new flagship, the R11 went on sale yesterday and in less than an hour, it surpassed the sales of the R9, with still enough units in stock. So how does OPPO do it while other manufacturers (insert Xiaomi) have supply issues?

Industry analyst, Mocha RQ takes to Weibo to give an insight as to what the company is doing right. His explanation is that OPPO has a very good relationship with its suppliers. It pays them on time; orders a single large batch and not in small quantities; and the supplier doesn’t have to worry about issues like patents infringements. He also says outside its business activities with its suppliers, OPPO organizes informal events such as dinners with them.

Does it mean companies like Xiaomi do not have a good working relationship with its suppliers or there is more to its supply challenges? Your guess is as good as mine. Although Xiaomi sometimes have supply issues when it uses materials like ceramic but for other phones like the Redmi series, it still battles with not having enough stock.

The R11 went on its first sale in China today via Jingdong (JD.com) and it took only 5 minutes for the device to make a record as the top-selling device on its first sale. The OPPO R11’s huge sales were helped by OPPO making available enough stock ahead of the sales. Apart from having enough stock, the R11 is also proving to be a popular model because Jingdong recorded the R11 sales as exceeding the same figure achieved by the R9S in a day, in just 40 minutes! Isn’t that wonderful?

The OPPO R11 is only available via online sales channels presently but is expected to be available in the offline stores as time goes on. All the ports, as well as the power and volume buttons, are rightly positioned where there are cutouts. The dual rear camera and LED flash are also well suited on the casing. In addition, both devices seem to have the same size which would then mean that the OnePlus 5 will come with a 5.5-inch display size.

So, apart from looking like the iPhone 7 Plus, the OnePlus 5 also has a look-alike in the OPPO R11, Despite the similar design, though, the OP5 has a lot of features and hardware which perhaps places it above both models. The OnePlus 5 is coming with the latest power chip in town and would have a massive 8GB RAM on one of its versions. OPPO unveiled its new flagship phones, the R11 and R11 Plus a few days ago. The dual camera duo are the first devices to sport the new Snapdragon 660 processor.

The launch was originally scheduled for 10th of June, but OPPO launched them a day early. However, it kept the pricing details to itself, revealing them last night at a sponsored musical concert.

The 5.5-inch OPPO R11 is priced at ¥2999 (~$440). A special Heat Red variant of the R11 will sell for ¥3199 (~$470). The larger R11 Plus is available for ¥3699 (~$544). Online and offline sale will kick off on June 16 at 10:00 AM local time.

The OPPO R11 and R11 Plus share a design that is obviously based on that of the iPhone 7 Plus. Their selling point is the dual rear cameras. One is a 16MP Sony IMX398 f/1.7 sensor and the other is a 20MP Sony IMX350 f/2.6 sensor with telephoto lens.

OPPO R11 has been in the news for the past few weeks, both officially and unofficially. Now, the company has finally taken the wraps off the R11 as well as its larger sibling, the OPPO R11 Plus. This makes them the first Snapdragon 660 smartphone duo in the market, which is an important title given that this chip is going to drive a lot of Chinese flagships in the coming months.

OPPO R11 & R11 Plus Design

Design wise, the OPPO R11 doesn’t disappoint. OPPO phones have always followed a similar design as the iPhone series and the latest R11 and R11 Plus models clearly continue the trend. They look very similar to the iPhone 7 Plus, even in terms of their dual camera placement. I’m not a big fan of companies copying the design from Apple, but it has worked wonders for OPPO in the past 12 months and there was probably no good reason for the brand to change this strategy.

If you can ignore the striking similarity to the Apple iPhone 7P, the metal built of the phone looks quite good, the antenna band design is unintrusive and the color options are definitely an added plus. There’s the regular, gold, rose gold and black color options. The bezels on the side look slim and there’s a fingerprint sensor embedded into the physical home button, just below the display, much like its predecessor, the OPPO R9S.

OPPO R11 & R11 Plus Specs

Unlike most Android manufacturers, OPPO’s strategy about hardware has been less aggressive. Instead of equipping its flagship models with top of the line processor and memory, the company has always focused on using upper mid-range specs. That’s not a bad thing as the Snapdragon 660 that powers the OPPO R11 and the R11 Plus is quite a capable chipset, placed just below the top-end Snapdragon 835.

The OPPO R11 and R11 Plus differ in terms of RAM and display sizes. The R11 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the OPPO R11 Plus features a larger 6-inch display with 1080p resolution, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The batteries are also different, with the R11 coming with a decent 3000mAh capacity battery and the R11 Plus getting a large 4000mAh one. Both naturally get VOOC fast charging support.

In case you are wondering, there’s MicroSD card support for both the models, but it’s a hybrid one that either takes 2 x nano SIMs or 1 x nano and 1 x MicroSD card.

OPPO R11 & R11 Plus Cameras

OPPO R11 and R11 Plus have the same camera setup. The rear setup consists of a combination of a 16MP f/1.7 aperture Sony IMX398 sensor and one 20MP f/2.6 Sony IMX350 sensor (we have seen this in the Axon 7S before) with telephoto lens. You can take portrait, bokeh photos and even 4K videos (either in wide-angle or telephoto) from the rear setup. It also comes with 2x optical zoom.

As for the front camera, OPPO has used a 20MP f/2.0 aperture sensor to take care of your selfie requirements.

Taking care of the software department is the new Color OS 3.1 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

OPPO R11 & R11 Plus Price & Availability

Initially, OPPO had announced that it would unveil the OPPO R11 and R11 Plus on June 10. Clearly, the company couldn’t contain revealing the specs and other details till the earlier mentioned date. But it did leave something for tomorrow i.e. pricing. The company will officially reveal the prices for the variants of OPPO R11 and R11 Plus tomorrow at 9:00 AM.

OnePlus just revealed what we should expect with respect to the OnePlus 5 come June 20. Posted as a tweet, we get to see the top half of the back of the phone. It is a shameless copy of the iPhone 7 Plus and its disappointing.

The dual rear cameras are confirmed and are a bit raised. Right beside it is a led flash and above it is the U-antenna line.

You will notice that there is no earphone jack on the top side of the phone. If this is a perfect clone of the OPPO R11, then it is still at the bottom. However, it might also have been moved to the other side, going by Carl Pei’s tweet asking “Why did the headphone jack cross the road?” Or it might be gone completely!!! That is a possibility too.

Now we know that the OnePlus 5 will have dual cameras. All that is left is the camera configuration. The OnePlus 5 will launch on June 20 and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 8GB of RAM. It is rumored to sell for as much as €550 (∼$616/£478).

The listing states that the company will be holding a June 10 press conference and the product page of OPPO R1 will be soon updated. The product details section on R11’s page has revealed the features of the smartphone.

The product page reveals that the OPPO R11 is powered by the newly introduced Snapdragon 660. The listing reveals that the OPPO R11 has a dual rear camera system along with a LED flash placed at the top-left corner of its back panel.

The dual camera system includes a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 20-megapixel telephoto lens. It offers a 2x optical zoom and is powered with Qualcomm Spectra Image Sensor Processor of Snapdragon 660. The OPPO R11 is capable of snapping images with bokeh effect. It features a Portrait mode that blurs the background by focusing on the subject. The frontside of the OPPO R11 features a 20-megapixel selfie camera.

The OPPO R11 is listed in three color options such as Gold, Rose Gold and Black. The smartphone has a very thin metallic chassis. Rumors have revealed that it has a 7.6mm. The pricing of the phone is not mentioned, but the listing states that there will be one year screen damage insurance that will be priced at 129 Yuan (~$19). There is a six-month extended warranty at 79 Yuan (~$12)and a one year extended warranty service at 129 Yuan (~$19).

The OPPO R11 has a 5.5-inch display that offers a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and it produces a pixel density of 401 ppi. The SD 660 chip is coupled with 4 GB of RAM and its internal storage is 64 GB. It is preloaded with Android 7.1 Nougat OS that is overlaid with Color OS from the company. OPPO upcoming device the OPPO R11 is expected to be launched alongside the OPPO R11 Plus. While we have seen a generous amount of leaked regarding the R11, the R11 Plus has only featured in a couple of them. Now, the device has been certified by TENAA ahead of its launch. It is not that this is its first appearance on TENAA, but this time around the photo of the OPPO R11 Plus is featured along with its specifications.

Before we delve into the specification, it is just right we analyse the photo of the R11 Plus to see how it compares with the R11. It comes with a black color at the back while the screen is colored in white. White has a way of revealing display bezels but this time around, the phablet device seems to have an ultra-thin bezel on both sides. There is a front home button and basically, the design resembles the R11. The difference may just lie in their sizes.

It is no longer news that OPPO is skipping the R10 and jumping to the OPPO R11. Scheduled to launch on June 10, the new phone has leaked multiple times. We already know what it will look like and we have seen photo samples taken with its 20MP+16MP dual rear cameras.

The OPPO R11 surfaced on GeekBench yesterday. We get to see how the Snapdragon 660 SoC performs and a few spec details too.

The phone pulls in 1607 points in the single-core test and 5823 points in the multi-core test. There is 4GB of RAM and Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

The Snapdragon 660 mobile platform is clocked at 1.84GHz on the OPPO R11 but can attain a max. clock speed of 2.2GHz. Built using the 14nm process and consisting of eight Kryo 260 cores, the new chip is currently the king of the mid-range category. When the OPPO R11 launches next Saturday, it will be the first phone to sport the processor.

OPPO is known for its aggressive marketing methods and there’s no surprise that the promotions and teasers for its upcoming OPPO R11 flagship started nearly a month before its official release on June 10. The company has roped in many celebrities to promote its smartphones and even for the R11, we have seen a lot of celebs showing off the flagship on multiple occasions. But if you were hoping to get a close look at the smartphone in real life, the promo videos or teasers didn’t do much justice. But now, we have spotted a new video which shows off the OPPO R11 in good clarity, finally confirming most of the design features that we already knew about.

So, like we saw in the posters, the OPPO R11 will come with the new antenna band design on the top as well as the bottom. This should also mean that the phone features an all metal body. There’s a dual camera setup on the top as well as a LED flash. We can also see that the camera setup protrudes quite significantly from the back. That’s not surprisingly given that OPPO’s R series phones are super thin, with the current OPPO R9S model featuring a super slim 6.6mm body.

The front is simple, with slim bezels on the sides and a physical home button that should also act as a fingerprint sensor. Personally, I would have liked the top and bottom bezels to be thinner, to bring the front in tune with the 2017 flagship design.

OPPO recently shared three sample photos captured by the R11’s dual cameras. The photos look crystal clear without any trace of image noise or any other anomaly.

Talking about the specs, the OPPO R11 is expected with a well-packed specs lineup marshaled by Qualcomm’s latest mid-range SoC, the Snapdragon 660 chip. OPPO has released a video trailer which announces the OPPO R11 launch date. The video details the OPPO R11 conference as holding on June 10 and would be broadcasted on Zhejiang Satellite TV across China. Other details like the venue of the conference are yet to be revealed. It is believed this is part of the promotional campaign before the R11 is launched.

The OPPO R11’s adverts have always pin-pointed the dual 20MP + 16MP sensors it packs at the rear as the main feature which the OPPO smartphone is expected to feature. What makes the dual camera unique is that it isn’t the usual colour + black and white combination but is a telephoto + wide-ande lens setup. There is also a 20MP front-facing camera onboard the device. Turns out talks of OPPO‘s upcoming smartphone featuring a Snapdragon 660 chip were true after all. The OPPO R11 has now been confirmed by Qualcomm China to feature its latest Snapdragon 660 processor via a Weibo post. From the post, it is obvious the Snapdragon 660 was specially selected for the R11, considering the powerful camera setup it is billed to come with. The Qualcomm Weibo post hints that this is the first time the SD 600 series would be using HVX and come with support for high-performance, low-power image processing which explains the power packed dual camera combination the OPPO camera flagship is coming with.

The OPPO R11 had earlier been teased as coming with a professional portrait mode which allows a clear focus on the subject with the surroundings blurred. The dual lens camera is also said to come with 2X zoom which doesn’t result in loss of the image’s integrity. There is no doubt the dual camera will be the major selling point of the OPPO R11. The OPPO R11 has been in the news for a while but it is still yet to launch. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer recently released a new ad for the phone but still didn’t mention a release date. As is typical of OPPO, their flagship phone usually gets a bigger variant with the suffix “Plus” added to it. The R11 will be no different, seeing as the OPPO R11 Plus has surfaced on TENAA.

The OPPO R11 Plus will feature a larger 6.0-inch display with the same 1080p resolution as the R11. Its RAM has also been bumped up to 6GB but storage has been kept at 64GB, though with the option for expansion via a MicroSD slot.

Just like the R11, the OPPO R11 Plus will also get dual rear cameras. TENAA lists them as a 16MP and 20MP combination. The front facing camera on the other hand is a 20MP sensor. The phone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core processor (likely Snapdragon 660).

For juice, the OPPO R11 will have a 3880mAh battery under its hood. The phone measures 165.8 × 81.5 × 7.8 (mm) and weighs 188g. It will launch in black, gold, and rose gold.

Based on the price difference between the OPPO R9S and the R9S Plus, we presume the OPPO R11 Plus will also sell for about ¥700 (∼$100) more than the R11 when it launches.

OPPO continues its drive to get us to fall in love with the OPPO R11 even before it is launched. The company has released yet another ad video which gives us what is perhaps the first clear glimpse of the R11. In addition to the video, the Chinese tech giant also released a number of posters containing its spokespersons for the R11.

Coming with a Snapdragon 660 processor, the OPPO R11 cannot be said to be a flagship device but a mid-ranger. However, the camera configuration places it way above all other R-series smartphone OPPO had manufactured. The posters and video confirm the R11 will indeed feature a dual lens setup at the rear. There is no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor just like its predecessors so, the R11 will have a front fingerprint authentication method.

The posters and video also confirm the R11 will be available in three attractive colours which are likely Gold, Rose Gold and Black. We also got to see the front view of the OPPO R11 for what is arguably the first time. A front physical home button is present on at its usual position and at the top, there is a selfie camera and just the receiver speaker. The device also has narrow bezels t the two edges, just that the top and bottom bezels are quite large.

There are no talks about an OPPO R11 Plus at this moment. So, we can assume that the R11 Plus may not launch along with the R11 or it may not even exist at all. The R11 seems to stand at 5.5 inches and looking back at OPPO antecedents, the company may likely release a Plus-size version of the device. We expect to see a press invite to the R11’s launch very soon.

OPPO continues to tease its upcoming smarphone which is the successr to the R9 series. The OPPO R11 appeared on AnTuTu’s website yesterday, confirming the presence of a Snapdragon 660 chipset on board with a 20MP front and 20MP rear cameras. Although the AnTuTu data didn’t capture the point that the R11 will be a dual-lens camera packing smartphone, OPPO has today revealed the camera specs of the R11 and it’s stunning, really!

The BBK subsidiary took to Weibo to share details of the camera, both the main shooter and the selfie camera. The main camera is listed as a dual setup comprising one 20MP telephoto lens and a 16MP wide-angle lens. On the other hand, the OPPO R11 will feature a large pixel 20MP single sensor. The camera is also teased as coming with a couple of innovative and amazing features. One of the features is a 2X lossless zoom which allows zooming an object closer without a loss in quality and clarity. You get up to 10X zoom capability but quality isn’t that guaranteed. OPPO shared a photo sample of how the zooming pans out during photo shooting. It is interesting to know that the flagship Xiaomi Mi 6 also comes with this unique feature.

OPPO is taking the marketing and promotion for its smartphones to a new level. Reports have emerged from China that the company has already started advertising and promoting its upcoming OPPO R11 even when it has not yet been launched. The BBK subsidiary is said to have launched campaigns advertising the R11 in nine (9) major cities in China. The company placed the R11 adverts on popular landmarks in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing and others. Captured at night time, the images from across different cities shows the OPPO ad sitting atop the landmarks lightened up by beautiful and attractive neon lights. The ads would sure be difficult to miss.

The OPPO R11 had all along been teased as coming with a powerful camera setup and that still remains the major feature OPPO is projecting the device as coming with. We know it is going to be a dual camera setup on the R11 but the specification of the camera has not made an official appearance anywhere. However, rumour has it that the camera specs includes a 16MP selfie camera and a 16MP main + 8MP secondary sensor at the rear. The camera may feature the 5X zoom technology OPPO unveiled at MWC earlier this year.

OPPO R11 launch seems to be approaching fast as it was recently spotted with 3C certification in China and it had also appeared on a TV commercial. Now, a leaked image of the alleged phone has surfaced to reveal that it will be coming in three color options.

As it can be seen in the above image, the alleged OPPO R11 will be coming in three colors like Black Gold, and Rose Gold. The image is quite blurry, but the dual rear camera can be seen present on the Gold variant. There is no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the phone which suggest that it would be probably integrated on the front-facing physical Home button.

Leaked shots of the phone that have appeared in the recent past have also suggested that it would be coming with dual rear cameras. Rumors have it that the dual camera setup will include the main sensor of 16-megapixel and a secondary sensor of 8-megapixel. The OPPO R11 is rumored to feature a 16-megapixel selfie snapper. There are rumours that OPPO is already developing a new smartphone in the R series known as R11.

According to the source, the OPPO R11 would be tailored after the pattern of the R9 and R9S, coming with a 5.5-inch display. There would also be an R11 Plus which would be 6 inches in size. Both models would offer dual lens cameras at the rear and may even pack dual selfie cameras.

In addition, OPPO’s dual camera technology which offers 5 times zoom showcased at MWC 2017 is said to likely feature on the R11. On the hardware aspect, the OPPO R11 will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor which uses the 14nm process, integrating Qualcomm’s own Kyro CPU in an octa-core arrangement. The cores are a combination of four big and four small cores with the big cores having a frequency of 2.2GHz and 1.9GHz for the small cores.
