A few months ago, Huawei has unveiled its all-new EMUI 9.0 custom interface which is based on the latest Android 9 Pie operating system with a few AI-based functions. The company has already released EMUI 9 update to several Huawei and Honor smartphones in China.

Now, after rolling out the update in its home country, Huawei has today announced through Twitter that it will soon start rolling out the new Android Pie-based EMUI 9 to international models, including Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, P20, P20 Pro, Honor Play, Honor View 10, and Honor 10.

According to a few media reports, users in Singapore and the United Kingdom have already started receiving the new EMUI 9 update. The new update should soon be available to users in other regions as well. For users who are upgrading, the size of the update is about 4GB while for those who are currently on the EMUI 9 Beta, the package size is about 770MB.

The EMUI 9.0 update brings various new changes along with all the features of Android 9 Pie. The customized skin comes with plenty of bug fixes and enhancements over the EMUI 8.0. The new user interface is better optimized for full view displays and carries additional AI-based features.

It also brings the Computer Mode Version 2.0, wireless universal screen projection through Miracast, one-click screen capture, and HuaweiShare for faster file transfers, among others. There is also a new password manager capable of auto-filling passwords using ID verification from the fingerprint scanner or via facial recognition.

The settings menu has been trimmed down by 10 percent. It also comes with GPU Turbo 2.0 which reduces the touch response of the phone by 36 percent and adds a new app assistant. This new GPU Turbo 2.0 introduces support for four more games: Vainglory, Arena of Valor, Rules of Survival, and NBA 2K18, in addition to PUBG and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

Since the update is based on Android Pie, it also gets navigation gestures. Among other features, the Android Pie also comes with Adaptive Battery which makes use of machine learning technology to improve the phone’s power management.

New changes on EMUI 9.0 

Several new features and enhancements have been added to the latest EMUI 9.0. Notably, it brings new UI for Quick settings, newly designed volume slider, AI support for battery and camera, manual theme selection, notch support, improved adaptive brightness, and Google Digital wellbeing feature.

There are plenty of other changes which include various optimizations for performance and security than the older version.

Additionally, Huawei Mate 10 carries Kirin 970 with 6GB + 128GB and 4GB + 64 GB storage variants. It packs 6 inch AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio measuring 402 ppi density. In-camera there’s a 12 megapixel + 20 megapixel on the rear side and 8-megapixel shooter on the front side. In connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, A2DP, aptX HD, LE and GPS.

During emergency, a smartphone can be the only way to seek help. Having a shortcut button can be the quickest possible to reach an emergency contact. On iPhone, users can hold the power and one of the volume buttons access Emergency SOS slider. Dragging the slider will make the iPhone call to a pre-defined emergency contact. After the phone call, the iPhone will send share the user location consistently at regular intervals of 10 minutes. Huawei has today confirmed the arrival of emergency SOS function for its smartphone through its official EMUI Weibo account.

The updated EMUI 9.0 now features emergency SOS function. The first set of phones to receive the function are Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design smartphones. Huawei is now actively working on bringing the emergency help function to its other smartphones.

Here is how Huawei phone users can access the emergency SOS function on their smartphones. As shown in the image above, the user can press the power button 5 times during an emergency situation. The help information will be automatically sent through SMS to pre-configured emergency contact number. It will also send current geographic location of the user.

At present, the emergency SOS function available on EMUI 9.0 does not support sending real-time user location. The Chinese manufacturer is working on it and it will be made available in the near future.

It appears that the SOS function will be available first on Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design smartphones in China. There is no confirmation on when the company will be making it available for global versions of Huawei devices.

Xiaomi and Meizu are currently working on bringing emergency SOS function to their devices in China It is only that Huawei, the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer has introduced the emergency SOS function to its smartphones.

The Mate 10 series have been pretty successful since their launch last year. Huawei’s CEO revealed they have sold over 10 million units since they went on sale. However, the series will have to make way for a successor soon. The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will succeed the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro and Huawei has revealed the launch date and venue.

For the launch of the Mate 20 duo, Huawei is heading to London on the 16th of October. While the location is different, the date is exactly a year from the launch of the Mate 10 series. It has become a sort of tradition for Huawei to launch its flagship phones in Europe and we don’t think that will be changing soon.

There is a lot to be excited about with respect to the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. Both phones will be the first powered by the newly announced Kirin 980, the world’s first 7nm processor. Actually, we expect a third device – a Porsche Design edition will also come with the chipset.

Specs of the Mate 20 leaked a few weeks ago. It will come with a 6.3-inch AMOLED screen with a water-drop notch and a 2244 x 1080 resolution. There will be three cameras on the rear like that of the Huawei P20 Pro but they will have a different arrangement.

The Mate 20 will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It will also have a 4200mAh battery, run Android 9 Pie out of the box, and support wireless charging. The Huawei Mate 10 series have received a number of key updates this year that have brought it close to par with the Huawei P20 series. Majority of these updates have been in the camera department and it appears Huawei isn’t done with the 2017 flagships yet.

A new info says the Mate 10 series (Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and the Porsche Design Mate 10) will soon get the Night Shot camera mode of the P20 series via an update. With Night Shot, users will be able to take better photographs in low-light. On the Huawei P20, the camera combines multiple shots into a single image when taking pictures in night mode. The result is a brighter image with less noise.

The Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro were released last year and are the first Huawei phones to come with the Kirin 970 which is the same chipset in the Huawei P20 series.

Huawei has now officially confirmed that the name of the 14 Huawei smartphones that will be receiving the GPU Turbo technology update. The company has also revealed on the approximate time period on when these devices will be receiving the GPU Turbo update.

In August, Huawei will be bringing the GPU Turbo technology update to users of Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate RS, P20 and P20 Pro. Owners of these smartphones from markets like Europe, Russia, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa will be able to take advantage of the update.

In September, the GPU Turbo update will be coming to users of Mate 10 Lite, Nova 2i, P Smart and Y9 2018 in all markets. Owners of P20 Lite in regions like Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa will be also receiving the update in the same month.

In November, the Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, P10 and P10 Plus will be updated with GPU Turbo. The update will made available to users of these smartphones in all regions.

GPU Turbo technology was unveiled on the day when Huawei had announced Honor Play and Honor 9i smartphones in June. It is a hardware-software technology for accelerating the performance of the GPU of a smartphone. Huawei claims that the GPU Turbo technology can enhance the performance of GPU by 60 percent and at the same time it reduces its power consumption by 30 percent. It can also improve the performance AR, VR and EMUI user experience. A recent report has revealed that the Huawei MediaPad M5 is the first tablet from the company to receive GPU Turbo technology. The tablet is expected to receive the vital update in this month.

The above list does not include Honor phones. However, a recent report had revealed that some of the Honor branded smartphones will be also updated with GPU Turbo. Honor 10, Honor 9 Lite, Honor V10 and Honor 7X users located in Europe, Russia, Asia Pacific, India and Middle East will be treated with GPU Turbo update.

CES Asia kicked off today and the big names in the Chinese mobile industry are in attendance. Huawei had a conference today and it announced some new features coming to its devices including the newly announced GPU Turbo.

The Huawei Mate 10 series will be the first to receive the GPU Turbo update. Huawei’s GPU Turbo increases the processing power of the GPU by up to 60% while reducing power consumption by 30%. The new feature was announced last week and comes with the Honor Play smartphone.

Since most of Huawei’s devices use in-house chipsets, they have found a way to push the feature to its other phones via a software update. The update will arrive on the Mate 10 by the end of this month.

Huawei also announced other devices getting the feature and the time frame. Below are the supported devices and when they will get the update:

1. June – Mate 10, Honor V10
2. July – P20 Series, Mate RS Porsche Design, Nova 2s, Honor 10, MediaPad M5
3. August – Nova 3e, Enjoy 8 Plus, Enjoy 7S, Maimang 6, Honor 9 Lite, Honor Play 7X

Huawei also announced some new features coming to the Mate 10. First, the Mate 10 series will support cloud computing starting June 26. It will then receive the EMUI 8.1 update in mid-July which will bring 960fps slow-motion recording.

One of Huawei‘s best smartphones presently going by several genuine reviews is the Mate 10 Pro. According to an observation by 9to5Google, Huawei recruited people to write “fake” Mate 10 Pro reviews on Best Buy. Funny enough, the Mate 10 Pro doesn’t need a fake review when there are countless genuine reviews all over the net ranking the device high. That is as blunt as it can get but the fact is that the company recently launched a contest on its Facebook page where it asked participants to drop a comment on the Mate 10 Pro’s page on Best Buy stating why they want the Mate 10 Pro. The contest will see the winners get the chance to test the Mate 10 Pro, that is in the U.S. Apparently wanting to impress, most of the 108 respondents left glowing comments about the Mate 10 Pro which are supposed to be reviewed. Almost all of the reviews gave the Huawei flagship a solid 5-star rating with some allegedly branding the device as the “unbeatable smartphone of the year,” a “great new flagship phone,” and even a device that “puts Samsung to shame.” The thing is, the Mate 10 Pro is still on preorder and is yet to go on sale in the U.S. So, there is absolutely no way the respondents would have used the device in order to rationally review it except those residing outside the U.S.

Huawei has responded to the allegations that it sponsored the “fake reviews”, releasing a statement to clear the misconception. Hre is the official statement; “Huawei’s first priority is always the consumer and we encourage our customers to share their experiences with our devices in their own voice and through authentic conversation. We believe there is confusion around a recent social media post reaching out to recruit new beta testers. While there are reviews from beta testers with extensive knowledge of the product, they were in no way given monetary benefits for providing their honest opinions of the product. However, we are working to remove posts by beta testers where it isn’t disclosed they participated in the review program.”

This statement sounds logical but could be a way out of the negative publicity this would generate especially in a market where marketing and promotional tactics are expected to be based on facts and not hype. Huawei could do this in China and get away with it. We see it done by many OEMs on retail platforms and they get away with it. The move could also be a genuine but deceitful means of convincing more people to buy the Mate 10 Pro in the U.S. Huawei failed in its bid to sell the device via the two biggest carriers in the U.S where smartphone sales are usually tied to carriers. Since that move failed for political reasons bordering on U.S-China relationship, this could be a subtle way of selling the device on Best Buy. Huawei denies that was its intention and we’ll leave it at that because the Mate 10 Pro doesn’t need a fake review. Huawei is putting serious effort into promoting its 2017 flagship Mate 10 series, especially the Mate 10. Just recently, we were thrilled by a video of the Mate 10 Pro surviving inside a freezer unscathed for 4 hours even as temperatures reached -24 degrees. Now Huawei has released another test showing the device under icy water in a frozen lake.

These tests seem to be targeted at Apple whose iPhones, iPads and other devices usually come with low-temperature protection such that when it is left is low temperatures below zero, a series of response occur which eventually result in the phone shutting down. According to Apple’s official website, the best operating temperature for iPhone, iPad, iPod and Apple Watch is between 0 ℃ and 35 ℃ while for the MacBook, it is between 10 ℃ and 35 ℃. That isn’t so for the Mate 10 as it has been shown to still remain functional even in the most extreme of temperatures. Huawei even indicated on its website that the optimal operating temperature of the Mate 10 Pro is 0-35 degree Celsius but this test and the previous one done in a freezer show that the Mate 10 Pro can survive in far lower temperatures.

In this case, the Mate 10 Pro was still able to accept an incoming call still inside the frozen lake. What more does Huawei need to do to prove the Mate 10 Pro is super powerful? Perhaps drop it from the third floor of a building? We don’t know if the device will survive that. All we know is that the Mate 10 Pro comes with an IP67 waterproof and dustproof body, coupled with an excellent full-screen design, a powerful SoC with AI capabilities and the latest EMUI 8.0.

Until recently, the waterproof body is usually the characteristics of rugged smartphones or feature phones. But now flagship models are usually advertised as having IP ratings good enough to guarantee protection from water and dust. In case you don’t know, IP stands for “Ingress Protection”. They are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (tools, dirt etc) and moisture. Today, most mobile phones with IP ratings are usually IP67 certified, and one of such phones advertised as having an IP 67 rating is the Huawei Mate 10 Pro.

That IP67 rating was seriously put to test recently in a manner that we’d never have expected. The smartphone was inserted into a bowl of water while a video was playing and then the bowl was kept in a freezer for four hours reaching up to a temperature of -24 degree Celcius. All these while, the Mate 10 Pro was being monitored to see if it will go off. At the end of four hours, the smartphone was removed from the freezer and after the ice thawed, the smartphone still kept working. Even after such an extreme test!

Even though we don’t recommend trying this at home, the test goes to show how durable the Mate 10 Pro is. Despite the waterproof body claim which has now been proven, damage to phone caused by water isn’t covered by warranty and that is clearly stated on the warranty card of most IP67-certified phones. The unlocked Huawei Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design smartphone with 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is priced at $1,225 for the U.S. markets. The 64 GB and 256 GB iPhone X are respectively available with $999 and $1,149 pricing in the U.S.

The smartphone will be releasing on Feb. 18 in the U.S. and it will be available through retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and Microsoft. It will be also coming to the Porsche Design Store by the end of February. The package of the Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design will include a pair of headphones, two cables for charging, a home and car Super charger and a leather case made by Montblanc, a German-based luxury company.

The Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design will be available exclusively in Diamond Black color in the U.S. It sports a premium appeal thanks to curved unibody glass chassis that has vertical stripes on it. The handset features Porsche Design branding at the front. Also, the handset is running on a custom UI flavored Android 8.0 Oreo.

As far as the hardware of the smartphone is concerned, it includes the same specs that are found on the Mate 10 Pro. The 6-inch AMOLED screen of the phone supports 18:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. The Kirin 970 SoC that is coupled with a dedicated AI chip is present under its hood. It lacks a microSD card slot.

Huawei has confirmed during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro flagship smartphone will be available in the U.S. starting from the next month. It won’t be available through the local carriers of the U.S., but it can be bought through popular retailers in the country.

Previous reports had suggested that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro would be available through AT&T and Verizon in the U.S. However, AT&T has reportedly canceled the deal of carrying the Mate 10 Pro. There is no update from Verizon on it which also indicates that it won’t be carrying the flagship phone.

However, the unlocked Huawei Mate 10 Pro that will be releasing next month in the U.S. would be compatible with GSM networks like AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket, MetroPCS, Simple Mobile and Tracfone.

Customers can avail the unlocked Mate 10 Pro through Amazon, Best Buy, Microsoft, New Egg and B&H with a price tag of $799. The pre-orders for the smartphone will start on Feb. 4 and its shipments will begin on Feb. 18. It will be available in color choices like Mocha Brown, Black and Midnight Blue. Those who pre-order the Mate 10 Pro will be provided with $150 gift-care rebate from any of the aforementioned retailers.

The Mate 10 Pro has an impressive Leica branded 12-megapixel + 20-megapixel rear-mounted dual camera setup and it is equipped with a dedicated AI chip for handling AI tasks. It features a 6-inch AMOLED display that supports 18:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. The U.S. will be receiving only the Mate 10 Pro variant that has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage.

The device lacks a microSD card slot. It has a selfie camera of 8-megapixel. It runs on EMUI 8.0 flavored Android 8.0 Oreo and its 4,000mAh battery is equipped with SuperCharge fast charging technology.

The special edition Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design will be also heading to the U.S. next month. During the Huawei’s event at CES 2018, the company did not confirm whether the Huawei Mate 10 will be also arriving in the U.S.

Huawei has also announced that “Wonder Woman” actress will be its official brand ambassador in the U.S. In the absence of support from local carriers, the company will be banking on the star power of the Israeli actress for credibility and exposing its devices to wider audience.

In March 2017, the rumor mill had revealed that Huawei is in talks with AT&T to release Mate 10 in the U.S. When Mate 10 Pro’s AT&T branded firmware files had emerged in last October, it appeared that the Mate 10 duo would be indeed avail through the carrier this year.

Just before the end of 2017, reports had revealed that the carrier had pushed the launching of Mate 10 to February. However, fresh information that the carrier will not be selling the smartphone. Rumors had claimed that the Chinese company would be confirming on the deal at today’s launch event.

There is no information available on why AT&T has walked out of the deal. Regardless of AT&T’s decision, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will still arrive in the U.S. as unlocked phones through major retailers. Huawei was also discussing with Verizon to release Mate 10 series phones in the U.S. As of this writing, there is no confirmation on whether Verizon will be carrying the Mate 10 phones.

Around a week ago, Huawei’s chief executive of the consumer business, Yu Chengdong had confirmed that the Huawei Mate 10 will be available in the U.S. in the coming year through local carriers. He had also said that the company would be expanding its smartphone business in the U.S. in 2018. According to The Information, Huawei will be debuting the Mate 10 flagship phone through AT&T in February next year.

Huawei’s high-end smartphones have been available in the U.S. through retailers like Best Buy and Amazon. However, it would be first time for a US carrier to sell a flagship phone from Huawei. The publication has claimed that the Chinese manufacturer will be investing around $100 million to advertise its phones in the U.S. in 2018.

Yu has also said that some of the EMUI (Huawei’s Android skin) elements are “stupid” which indicates that the Mate 10 will be arriving in the U.S. with an enhanced EMUI skin.  It appears that AT&T won’t be the only carrier that will be selling Huawei’s flagship phones in the U.S. as Bloomberg had recently reported that the Chinese manufacturer is in talks with Verizon to sell its smartphones in the country.

Huawei has said that it aims to become the number one smartphone brand in the world by 2021. For this to happen, Huawei will have to ship more smartphones than Samsung and Apple across the world. In the past, Google Nexus 6P – a Huawei phone had sold well in the stateside when it was made available through major carriers. In January, Google had confirmed that Huawei is working on its own Daydream Virtual Reality (VR) headset. However, since then, there has been no major update on the arrival of VR headset by Huawei. Now that the device has received FCC (Federal Communications Commission) certification in the U.S., the launch of the Huawei branded Daydream VR seems to be close at hand.

An item dubbed as “virtual reality handle” along with some images has surfaced in FCC documents. It seems to be a controller as it appears quite similar to the one that is available with Google’s Daydream VR. Its top portion could be touch-sensitive and it seems to feature buttons for Home, Return and volume.

The FCC documents reveals that apart from controlling the sound, the volume buttons can be also used for answering or rejecting phone calls while using the VR headset. This suggests that the upcoming VR headset by Huawei is not a standalone device, but it will require users to put their smartphone inside the device and use its screen to show Daydream compatible content.

The FCC documents do not contain images of the VR headset. Even though Google had shown what the VR headset by Huawei would  look like earlier this year, the Chinese manufacturer may have modified the design of the device.

As of this writing, only Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche Design are certified as Daydream VR ready phones by Huawei. It is likely that the recently launched Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro would also bag the certification. Since there are not many Daydream ready Huawei phones in the market, its upcoming VR headset will be compatible with phones from other brands.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 will be held in January 2018. It is likely that Huawei’s Daydream VR headset may get showcased at CES 2018. If not, the company may make it official at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 event in February 2018.

Honor V10 is an upcoming flagship phone that is slated to get announced on Dec. 5 in London, U.K. An official launch invitation that has been shared on Honor’s Weibo account reveals that the company would be debuting the Honor V10 in Beijing, China on Nov. 28 before introducing it in London.

The above launch invitation shows that the Honor V10 will not only feature dual cameras but also it will be enabled with AI capabilities. Previous reports have revealed that the 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel dual camera setup arriving on V10 will not have Leica branding.

Honor CEO Zhao Ming has recently confirmed that the Honor V10 will be powered by Kirin 970 and it will be running on EMUI 8.0 flavored Android 8.0 Oreo. The Kirin 970 that features a dedicated NPU unit for handling AI is the same chipset that powers the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro.

The Honor V10 is rumored to feature a 6-inch display by BOE. The screen is expected to deliver an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Mate 10 Pro also features an 18:9 aspect ratio supporting 6-inch display. Since the smartphone will be coming with a full screen design, the fingerprint scanner will be placed on its rear side.

It is expected to arrive in variants such as 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. Like the Mate 10 Pro, the Honor V10 is also speculated to house a 4,000mAh battery that will carry support for 22.5W rapid charging.

Since the Honor V10 borrows a lot of features from the Mate 10 Pro, it is expected to arrive as a toned-down version of the Mate 10 Pro. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether it will be featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack or IP67 resistance.  The Mate 9 Pro came with a metallic body, but the Mate 10 Pro that features a full screen deign is equipped with a glass + metal chassis. Since Honor’s “V” series phones have also always featured metallic body, the V10 may not feature a glass and metal combination chassis.

As far as the design of the smartphone is concerned, it is expected to appear very similar to the Mate 10 Pro flagship phone. Leaked information suggests that its body will be more rounded than the Mate 10 Pro. Also, it is expected to feature a display manufactured by the China-based BOE Technology firm.

Recent reports have revealed that the Honor V10 will be coming with a 6-inch display that would be carrying support for an aspect ratio of 18:9. The AI driven Kirin 970 chipset is speculated to power the smartphone. Its 6 GB RAM variant is expected to feature 64 GB of storage whereas the 8 GB RAM variant may include 128 GB of storage. Android 8.0 Oreo is speculated to come preloaded on the smartphone.

The exact size of the battery that will fuel the Honor V10 is not known. However, it is pegged to carry support for 22W fast charge. The rear side of the phone may house a 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel dual camera system, albeit Leica branding found Mate 10 series. There is no information available on the selfie camera of the phone. As far as pricing is concerned, the Honor V10 is likely to cost around 3,000 Yuan (~$450).

Huawei Mobile has come a long way in the last few years, moving from being a Chinese brand to a global brand. As part of its efforts to expand its popularity, it officially released a couple of its phones – Honor 8 and Mate 9 in the US market last year. However, while both phones actually received very good reviews, sales were not impressive.

Huawei plans to change things starting next year as reports from XDA say that the company has partnered with US carrier AT&T, to exclusively sell the Mate 10 Pro.

The news was first reported earlier this year by The Information which said that Huawei was in talks with AT&T to sell one of its flagship phones in Q1 2018. XDA was able to confirm the report based on obtained firmware files of the Mate 10 Pro.

First the firmware is named BLA-A09-att-us which differs from that of the international variant, BLA-L09. A dump from system/app also shows some pre-installed AT&T apps.

The US Mate 10 is said to run EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo just like the international variant. It also comes with Mozilla Firefox Browser in addition to Google Chrome.

There is still no info on when the Mate 10 Pro will be available in the US or how much it will cost. So we will stick to the Q1 2018 time frame mentioned above. The Kirin 970 chipset is an 10nm chipset that is integrated with an exclusive Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for handling AI capabilities. The beasty Kirin 970 powers the recently introduced Mate 10 series smartphones. The AnTuTu benchmarks of Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro that have surfaced recently indicate that the performance of the Kirin 970 is on par with Snapdragon 835.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro AnTuTu Benchmarks

The above image seems to show the AnTuTu benchmarks score of a Huawei phone with a model number of BLA-L29. The same model has been spotted with 6 GB of RAM multiples times on Geekbench over the past week. The BLA-L29 is the Mate 10 Pro and it has recorded an impressive score of 173,757 on AnTuTu.

The Mate 10 Pro has a 6-inch FHD+ OLED screen that offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. It includes 128 GB of storage. It has a 20-megapixel + 12-megapixel Leica certified dual rear cameras and is fueled by a 4,000mAh battery.

Huawei Mate 10 AnTuTu Benchmarks

The above image seems to belong to the regular Mate 10 as the model number of ALP-AL00 has appeared with 4 GB of RAM on the benchmarking site numerous times in the recent past. On AnTuTu, it has managed to score even higher with 176,174 points. Also, the listing shown in the above image seems to be authentic as the official AnTuTu site has the same listing sans the scores of Mate 10.

The Mate 10 has a 5.9-inch LCD screen that supports QHD resolution. It also features the same dual camera system and 4,000mAh battery that is available on the Mate 10 Pro.

Coming to the AnTuTu benchmarks, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro have managed to list among the top 7 best performing smartphones. The Apple A11 Bionic chipset powered iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 are respectively leading AnTuTu benchmarks with respective scores of 212,728 and 205,386. The Snapdragon 835 powered OnePlus 5 and ZTE Nubia Z17 that have respectively scored 181,410 and 177,770 are ranking ahead of Mate 10.

The Mate 10 Pro is not present in the above list, but its score of 173,757 should land it behind HTC U11 that has a score of 175,970. The Mate 10 and 10 Pro are also ahead of SD 835 powered Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ on AnTuTu

The above ranking shows that the Kirin 970 powered Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are scoring similar benchmark scores as Snapdragon 835 on AnTuTu. This indicates that Huawei has managed to create a beasty chipset that can rival with Snapdragon 835.

On Monday, Huawei had unveiled the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design smartphones. However, the Mate 10 Lite was not unveiled alongside these phones. Today, the Chinese firm has made it official discreetly.

Huawei Mate 10 Lite Specifications and Features

The Huawei Mate 10 Lite features an elongated 5.9-inch LCD panel and since it carries support for FHD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, it produces an aspect ratio of 2:1. The display is surrounded by minimal bezels. The smartphone features 156.2 x 75.2 x 7.5mm and its weight is 164 grams.

The top bezel houses a dual camera system that includes a 13-megapixel sensor and a 2-megapixel sensor. The rear side of the phone is flanked with Leica certified and dual-LED enabled dual camera system featuring a 16-megapixel sensor and a 2-megapixel sensor. Since the smartphone features a large display and does not have enough space to house a Home button below it, the fingerprint scanner is moved to rear side of the phone.

The 16nm Kirin 659 chipset that features a 2.3 GHz octa-core processor and ARM Mali-T830 MP2 graphics is present under the hood of the Mate 10 Lite. The SoC is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM. The native storage that has been provided on the handset is 64 GB. It also features an external storage slot for adding a microSD card. The 3,340mAh battery that is enabled rapid charging powers the smartphone.

Interestingly, the Mate 10 Lite has been already launched in multiple markets already with different names. It came as Maimang 6 in China and Nova 2i in Malaysia. India received the same phone as Honor 9i.

The company has also verified the safety of the Mate 10 duo under extreme conditions by subjecting it to hot and cold temperatures. It has also the verified the safety of the phone’s battery through multiple drop tests. The USB-C charging ports are also checked by inserting and retracting charging cables over 10,000 times. Also, both the phones have been tested by the German firm with chargers from third-party companies.

According to TUV Rheinland, the SuperCharge technology driven Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are the world’s first safe fast charging system. Last year, the battery related issues had led to discontinuation of Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Since then smartphone OEMs have become all the more careful when it comes to meeting safety standards for battery.

The rapid charging feature on the Mate 10 series allows these smartphones to reach zero to 58 percent by charging them only for 30 minutes. After months of leaks, the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro flagship smartphones have been officially unveiled. Even though they sport a similar design and are powered by the same AI driven Kirin 970 chipset, the two smartphones are different in many ways.

Design

The Mate 10 and 10 Pro are fitted with glass back that are curved at the edges and there is a textured pattern to highlight the dual rear cameras. However, the Mate 10 measures 150.5 x 77.8 x 8.2mm and it weighs 186 grams. The Mate 10 Pro is a longer device as it measures 154.2 x 74.5 x 7.9mm and its weight is 178 grams.

Among the two phones, only the Mate 10 Pro features a IP67 certified dust and water-resistant chassis. Also, there is no 3.5mm audio jack on Mate 10 Pro, but Huawei has made it available on Mate 10. The Mate 10 is available in color choices like Mocha Brown, Black, Champagne Gold and Pink Gold. On the other side, the Mate 10 Pro is available in colors like Midnight Blue, Titanium Gray, Mocha Brown and Pink Gold.

Display

The Huawei Mate 10 has a 5.9-inch LCD display that supports Quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. It supports a pixel count of 499 ppi and offers an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Mate 10 Pro has a 6-inch OLED display that produces FHD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,160 pixels and delivers an aspect ratio of 18:9 along with a pixel density of 402 ppi.

RAM and Storage

Another feature that sets the two devices apart is that the Mate 10 has a microSD card slot whereas the Mate 10 Pro does not feature it.

The images in this post reportedly belongs to the dummy units of the Mate 10 series. The first phone in the above image does not feature a Home button which suggests that it could be fitted with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. The second device has a physical Home button below the display. These two units could two variants of the regular Mate 10.

When Huawei had unveiled the Mate 9 smartphone last year, it had also unveiled the premium Mate 9 Porsche Design that carried a hefty price tag of $1,500 on Amazon. A firmware file that is named as BLA-AL00-porsche-cn has surfaced to confirm the existence of the Mate 10 Porsche Design. Hence, it appears that the Chinese manufacturer will debut the Mate 10 Porsche Design alongside the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro on Oct. 16.

The firmware file could belong to the Chinese variant of the Mate 10 Porsche Design. Actually, BLA-AL00 is rumored as the model number of Mate 10 Pro. Hence, it appears that the Mate 10 Porsche Design could be based on Mate 10 Pro. The Mate 9 Porsche Design was based on Mate 9 Pro.

The firmware file does not contain any information on the specifications and features of the Mate 10 Porsche Design. However, it includes some signature item such as wallpapers, boot animation and sound files. The firmware file may include some new items for Mate 10 Porsche Design among the files for its predecessor.

By far, the firmware file is the strongest evidence to believe that the Mate 10 Porsche Design does exist, claims XDA Developers. However, some of the images also indicate a Porsche Design smartwatch.

In the previous month, reliable leakster Evan Blass had claimed that the Mate 10 series includes three devices such as Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Lite. However, the Mate 10 Porsche Design may exist as a fourth device in the family. Blass too had hinted the existence of Mate 10 Porsche Design through a recent tweet.

Since the Porsche Design model is expected to be based on Mate 10 Pro, it is rumored to arrive with an 18:9 ratio display that produces QHD+ resolution. It could be powered the Kirin 970 chipset and may house the same Leica branded dual rear cameras. One thing that is likely to differentiate the Mate 10 Porsche Design from Mate 10 Pro is design. The Mate 10 Porsche Design will be housing a premium body and it will be also sporting a Porsche Design logo.

The Mate 10 Pro seems to continue from where the Mate 9 Pro left off, with its stunning and exceptional design. This time around, instead of a curved edge design like the Mate 9 Pro, the Mate 10 Pro follows the latest flagship trend which is a full-screen design that is nearly bezel-less. It is noteworthy that the leaked photos looked very much similar to the renders leaked by Evan Blass. Just that the back panel on the real photo looks like it is glossier, perhaps made of glass just like the Huawei P10.

The Huawei Mate 10 series are slated to get unveiled in the third week of this month. Speculations have revealed that the Mate 10 series will include four smartphones such as Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate 10 Lite and Mate 10 Porsche Design. A new image of the Mate 10 Pro that compares it with Mate 9 from last year has surfaced. The image shows the design changes that the Chinese manufacturer has introduced on Mate 10 Pro.

Even though the dimensions of the Mate 10 Pro are not available, the above image does reveal that the handset is slightly slimmer and shorter than the predecessor model. This could be because the Mate 10 Pro is speculated to feature a 6-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Mate 9 features a 5.9-inch display with an aspect ratio of 16:9.

The Huawei Mate 9 has a metallic unibody chassis. However, the Mate 10 Pro is speculated to come with a glass back. The design of the dual rear cameras has been modified on the Mate 10 Pro. The Mate 9 has a single housing for both the Leica branded camera sensors, but the two sensors can be seen sitting separately on the Mate 10 Pro. Rumors have it that the Mate 10 and 10 Pro would be equipped with a pair of f/1.6 aperture lenses. The dual camera system is equipped with features like dual-LED flash and laser autofocus.

Also, the dual camera system is placed on a patterned texture on the Mate 10 Pro. There seems to be no change in position of the fingerprint scanner and Huawei branding.

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is expected to come preinstalled with Android 8.0 Oreo that will be skinned with EMUI skin. It is rumored to feature a 4,000mAh battery. The Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are going to feature the in-house Kirin 970 SoC that includes a dedicated a neural processing unit (NPU) for handling AI features.

Recent reports have revealed that the Mate 10 Pro will be coming in four models such as 6GB RAM/64GB storage, 6GB RAM/128GB storage, 6GB RAM/256GB storage, and 8GB RAM/256GB storage. These models are speculated to be respectively priced at 5,499 Yuan (~$827), 6,199 Yuan (~$933), 6,899 Yuan (~$1,038), and 7,499 Yuan (~1,129).

The 940 euros ($1,100) pricing that has been leaked by Quandt could be referring to the 6 GB + 256 GB or 8 GB + 256 GB variant of the Mate 10 Pro.

The Huawei Mate 10 is speculated to house a 5.9-inch display that will carry support for 16:9 aspect ratio whereas the Mate 10 Pro is rumored to feature a 5.9-inch display that be offering an aspect ratio of 18:9. Both the smartphone are rumored to be powered by Kirin 970 chipset that is integrated with AI NPU. One of the recent reports have revealed that Mate 10 duo’s AI capabilities will allow them to see, think and learn like a human brain.

With the launch of Galaxy S8 and S8+, Samsung introduced the Samsung DeX feature that allows users to connect the smartphone to a large display by using a dock. Fresh information suggest that Huawei is likely to introduce a similar feature with launch of Mate 10 flagship.

MirAxess CEO Yanis Anteur has claimed that the Mate 10 would be arriving with a PC style functionality. Here is what Anteur has said on it:

 “For now on we recommend to use the Mirabook with the Galaxy S8 for DeX and Windows Phones for Continuum. I also have a secret news for you (sic), the new Huawei smartphones announced on 16 October will have a DeX like feature and should be compatible with the Mirabook.”

The above statement suggests that the Mate 10 will provide users with a desktop UI for Android apps by connecting it to display through a dock. Hence, Huawei may debut a proprietary desktop dock that may feature a Displayport. Since Miracast is well-supported by various smart TVs, it won’t be difficult for Mate 10 users to find a compatible large screen. The rumored desktop dock from the Chinese company is also expected to carry support for wireless connectivity for hooking Mate 10 to a large screen through Miracast.

Huawei has recently released a teaser that to reveal the prowess of the Mate 10. The teaser claims that the Mate 10 that is driven by AI enabled Kirin 970 chipset is not a smartphone. This teaser could be hinting its secret desktop functionality. However, the teaser mainly focuses on the AI capabilities of the smartphone by calling it is an intelligent machine that can see, think and learn like a human.

Huawei has been consistently teasing that the Mate 10 is powerful enough to take on the recent flagships from Apple and Samsung. The Huawei Mate 10 will arrive on October 16. Expected to come in 4 variants, alleged live photos of one of them have been leaked online. Although the leaker says it is the Mate 10, we are not so sure.

We know it is not the Mate 10 Lite as that is the already announced Maimang 6. We also know it is not the Mate 10 because that is expected to have its fingerprint scanner in front. That leaves us with this being the Mate 10 Pro which is expected to have its fingerprint scanner on the rear due to its 18:9 EntireView display. Though we can’t confirm the display type since there are only photos of the back.

Unlike the Huawei Mate 9 Pro whose dual rear cameras are in a vertical position, the sensors here are horizontally placed. To also distinguish it from the design of the iPhone 8 Plus or the OnePlus 5, Huawei has put the cameras in the middle.

Flanking the sensors on the right is the LED flash and on the right is a laser focus module. The entire camera setup is housed in a pill shaped design with a silver chrome accent. There is also a circular fingerprint scanner below the cameras.

The Mate 10 Pro seen in the image has a reflective back just like the HTC U11. The finishing does look really good but it sure is going to be a fingerprint scanner.

Other images show us the sides of the phone. Thankfully, there is an audio jack, a USB Type-C port and a speaker grille at the bottom. We also get a look at the volume rocker and power buttons.

Earlier in this month, two Huawei branded smartphones with model numbers ALP-AL00 and ALP-TL00 had been certified by China Compulsory Certificate (CCC) in China. The certification of these phones did not reveal any information on their specifications. However, the CCC approval indicates that these Huawei phones will release soon in China.

The only thing that has been surfaced through CCC certification of the aforementioned phones is that they will be arriving with HW-05040C00 charger which is the same charger that is available with Huawei Mate 9 from last year. The charger carries support for 5.0V/2A, 4.5V/2A and 5V/4.5A.

Maimang 6 is one of the forthcoming smartphones from Huawei. The smartphone has now appeared on GFXBench benchmarking site to reveal its key specifications.

The Huawei RNE-AL00 smartphone that had received certification from TENAA in China earlier this month is speculated to debut as Maimang 6 or Huawei G10. The alleged smartphone has appeared on GFXBench as “Huawei Maimang 6 (RNE-xxx).” According to the benchmarking site, the handset features a 5.4-inch display that offers a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. However, the TENAA listing suggests that it would be coming with 18:9 aspect ratio display that will support FHD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels.

The handset is powered by HiSilicon Hi6250 chipset that includes a 2.3 GHz octa-core processor and Mali-T830 graphics. This suggests that the smartphone could be powered by Kirin 659 chipset. It includes 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.

For photography, it features a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel front camera. These cameras are capable of shooting full HD videos. Recent reports have revealed that the Maimang 6 would be equipped dual camera at its front as well as rear sides. GFXBench does not specifically mention the exact configurations for dual camera sensors. Hence, the Maimang 6 listing on GFXBench does not include details of dual rear and front snappers.

The TENAA listing has revealed that the Maimang 6 has 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera setup on its rear side and the frontside features 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera system on its front. GFXBench listing reveals that the handset will arrive preinstalled with Android 7.0 Nougat overlaid with EMUI skin.

Blass has recently revealed juicy details on the specifications of the Huawei Mate 10 Lite. He claims that Mate 10 Lite is codenamed as Rhone and it would be releasing in China as Maimang 6 or Huawei G10. He has stated that the Mate 10 Lite would be priced at 379 euros (~$455) at launch and it would be available in three color choices like blue, black and gold. The handset is expected to include 3,340mah and arrive in 4 GB and 6 GB RAM options, claims the leakster.

Huawei announced during IFA that its next flagship, the Mate 10 series will arrive on October 16. Recent leaks say it will come in three variants – the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, and a more affordable Mate 10 Lite.

In the past week, the leaked images showing the live Huawei Mate 10 Pro had surfaced. Both the images revealed that the smartphone would be sporting a full screen design. A new image of the front panel assembly of the alleged Mate 10 Pro has appeared.

As it can be seen in the above image, the front panel has super-slim side bezels. Also, the front and bottom are thick enough to respectively house some sensors and Huawei logo. The bezels of the front panel are black in color which matches the recently spotted live images of the Mate 10 Pro.

The front panel shown above resembles with the frontal assembly of the alleged Mate 10 Pro that had appeared in the previous week. However, the latter has a glossy appeal for the golden colored bezels. Since the fingerprint scanner module is not visible, it looks like the smartphone would be sporting a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

There is another variant of Mate 10 that is codenamed as Alps. It is rumored to house a 5.88-inch QHD display, Kirin 970 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. This handset may probably debut as Mate 10 Lite, but it is strange to see a flagship inside it.

A few days ago, Evan Blass of VentureBeat, released a ton of info about Huawei’s upcoming Mate 10 series. Citing marketing material provided by an insider, the details of the new Mate series further confirms some previous leaks.

Earlier, Evan Blasss had revealed via Twitter that the codenames for the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are Marcel and Blanc respectively. However, the new leak mentions a third device code-named Alps.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro a.k.a Blanc

As revealed in previous leaks, Evan confirms that the Mate 10 Pro will have an 18:9 display based on its 1440 x 2880 resolution and 5.99-inch IPS LCD. It will also have 6GB of RAM paired with the new Kirin 970 and 64GB/128GB of storage.

The next interesting spec is the camera configuration. Huawei will be working with Leica again on the cameras. Blanc is said to have a 12MP + 20MP dual configuration on the rear. The sensors are said to have optically stabilized lenses with apertures comparable to the LG V30 i.e. f/1.6 aperture. We expect the 8MP front camera will also get the Leica treatment just like in the Huawei P10.

The Mate 10 Pro will have a thickness of 7.5 mm but will still manage to have a 4000mAh battery. It will also have an IP68 rating and a LTE Cat. 16 modem (what happened to the Cat. 18 modem?). The phone will be announced on October 18 but won’t ship till December with EMUI 6.0 based on Android Oreo on board.

Huawei Alps

Evan says the Mate 10 is codenamed Marcel so we don’t not know what will be Alps’ official name. Nevertheless, the phone is definitely a flagship and not a sort of Lite version of the series.

It has a 5.88-inch IPS LCD display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. That’s a Quad HD display in the usual 16:9 aspect ratio format. Alps will also have the Kirin 970 powering it, the same camera configuration as Blanc and even the same 4000mAh battery capacity.

RAM however gets a cut to 4GB and storage is limited to just 64GB. It will be thicker at 8.23 mm and is said to have a Cat. 12 LTE modem. Alps will be announced on October 16 and will go on sale later that month.

Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen a bunch of leaks about both devices. Yesterday a fresh new leak surfaced online for the Mate 10 Pro confirming what we have heard about its design.

The Mate 10 Pro is said to launch with an 18:9 screen Huawei is calling EntireView Display, which is their own version of LG’s FullVision Display or Samsung’s Infinity Display. A live image of the front panel of the phone leaked yesterday, adding credence to the rumor.

The front panel has very thin side bezels and reduced top and bottom bezels compared to the Mate 9 Pro. There is a cut-out for the front camera and proximity sensor at the top as well as the earpiece. The bottom bezel does nothing more than hold the manufacturer’s name.

This means that the Mate 10 Pro will most likely have its fingerprint scanner on the rear or surprisingly on the side. The Mate 10 on the other hand is expected to launch with a regular display with bezels and a front-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Huawei has scheduled October 16 as the day it announces its flagship phone, the Mate 10. The Mate 10 has been confirmed by one of the company’s executives to be powered by the Kirin 970, its latest flagship processor.

One of the key features of the Kirin 970 is that it is the first processor to feature an integrated Artificial Intelligence processing unit. This info was confirmed by Yu Chengdong, another of the company’s top executives.

Huawei’s president of smartphone division, He Gang, has taken to Weibo in the past few days to announce that Huawei’s new Mobile AI will be unveiled at IFA Berlin 2017. Since the AI processing unit is integrated into the main chip, it is believed that the Kirin 970 itself will make an appearance.

We may also see the Huawei Mate 10 at the event on Saturday, however it won’t be a plain reveal. Last year, when the Kirin 960 was announced, there was a phone wrapped up in brown paper (excluding the screen) to serve as the prototype device for the new chip. To test the new AI processing unit, there has to be a prototype on site too. That device will most likely be the Huawei Mate 10 or Mate 10 Pro.

The Kirin 970 will be built on TSMC’s 10nm process. The octa-core chip will feature 4 x Cortex-A73 cores and 4 x Cortex-A53 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.8 GHz. It will have a Mali-G72 GPU, Cat. 12 LTE and support for dual cameras. It is also said to be the world’s first pre-5G (4.5G) LTE chip.
